Though a tad eccentric, he's a great math prof. he uses a lot of different techniques to make sure everyone understands. i wish he transferred to a better college
He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. Eventhough math is not my best subject, his teaching style, group quizs, and extra credit assignments make me want to take him again in Math 90.

Very helpful always willing to help. Uses many examples to make sure you understand what to do. If you get a problem wrong he goes step by step and shows what you did wrong.
I do not like math but this teacher made it survivable. If you listen in class and do what he says you will do well.
You will not learn anything in his class. For those students who take their education seriously, esp. for science majors i recommend that you avoid taking this lame instructor. He insults the educational system!!!!!!
I like the way he explains things so I can actually understand since math is like a foriegn language to me.
you know how everyone at mjc has to take math 90 10 times before they pass? we'll that's because they never take payvar. he's a really good teacher, he acts like he's mean, but it's all an act. he makes math a lot easier than all the math teachers at mjc. lots of extra credit, note cards on test.
He is helpful, funny, kind, and cool. I worked hard and also did my assignment according to his instructions and did well. He is a good teacher and teaches good and that is what he expects from his students. If you want to learn something and have fun TAKE him.:)
he is so unhelpful! and not teaching anything.
Excellent teacher! He lessons are crystal clear! I was a hopeless math student in high school, and I ended up with B in his class - He's that good! He's very passionate about teaching his students!
He lets you take group test, and lets you use note cards. He also allows 100 points extra credit.
He is a very good teacher! He explains wery well, cares about his students, and he is always ready to help. If you wanna do good in his class, listen his lectures, do homework, and you'll be just fine! You have to be really dumb or really have not to care about the class in order to fail.
Mr. Payvar was the best math teacher I ever had, he built up my confidence in mathematic. I think he should teach a class to all the other math teachers on campus, on how to relate math to the students. I recommend this class to any student wanting to leave MJC witnin two years.
Payvar is easy to understand although he rarely lets the students ask questions when they do no understand an area. It would have been better to go over some of the homework so you know whether you are doing it right or not. He does make math very understandable even for those of us who are math stu

Payvar is a good instructor. I am horrible at math but with the way he teaches, I had no problems passing his class. I wish he taught 121. I recommend him 100%, he is very charesmatic and smart. He shows u a lot of shortcuts. He really is the "Prince of Persia".
Mr. payvar is the best best math instructor. I have had him for 3 semesters, he is very helpful in explaining the lessons and gives so much extra credit that there is no way you can fail, unless you dont do any hw and flunk the tests. I will def. be taking his 172 in the spring. HE KICKS A**
I passed his 71 class, but he is terrible at explaining what he expects of you. He doesnt go into enough detail and can be rude. He however gives a lot of extra credit. He allowed group test taking (Always did solo...group testing stupid idea) but said wont do it anymore beyond our class (Spring 05). Can be strict especially on attendance.
math is my worst subject, but payvar is the best math teacher ever! he lets you take group quizzes and explains things in very simple terms so that confusing things are easy to understand. i got an A in his class and i'm not a math person. he seems shy at first but he really is a funny person. ask him about his hippo story! i recommend him 100%
he is a very helpful teacher, in the mean time he is serious. he knows the subject and the way to teach it. he is not like those teachers that want to keep only a smal elite students for themselves.
Mr payvar is the shiznit, he's the only math teacher i've taken. He's a wonderful teacher and a very nice man. Not to mentions pretty hot. But he smokes.
Good teacher, makes learning math fun. Plus he is always talking about drinking and smoking, whats not cool about that.
This is the worst math teacher I have ever had! he is too hard to follow!!!!!!!
I got almost 100% in this class it was so easy. He is very nice and loves to put you in groups and you can choose whether or not you have group tests. Very nice guy he is very funny too.
Didn't really pay attention in his class
Mr. Payvar was really helpful and let you use books and notes. He wasn't very clear all the time...and his accent got in the way but he always took time and let you ask questions
Mr. Payvar is an awesome teacher! He is very helpful, and devotes a 110% of his time to not only me, but also my other classmates. I took him from previous semesters, and continue to recommend him to all my friends at MJC. Every teacher should try to emulate his professionalism as an instructor.
MR Payvar is a really nice teacher. He makes the class interesting, and easy to understand. He is a nice and kind guy. If u do not understand the math problem, he will be glad to help u.Math is not easy subject, but u will have confidence once u take his class. take his class, there is no way not to pass!:)
he's niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Mr. Payvar is an excellent professor in MJC. He is so helpful and nice. If you got a higher "A" in the class you will be exempted in the final. Just study the pointers before you take the exam.

the class is very hard...he is very hard too but the way he teaches makes it clear!! i recommend him for all the math classes!! i am not a middle eastern and i got an A+.... good luck

Hardest class I've ever had, Studied 6 days a week with a study partner just to get a B+. Subject was hard, but Payvar was the best. He's willing to help til you get the material. Hard to get in his class as everyone wants in. I'd recommend everyone take him, he helps make sense of math, which is not any easy thing to do. He's funny and personable.
Way too hard... where are all these great comments coming from? He's OK during the fall, but a nightmare over the summer! He's too unorganized. Take Michelena instead.
he is the best teacher ever
hes the most unorgenized teacher i ever had, no feedbacks on your homeworks and tests, you are just suspended in the air if you taking the class with him dont take on summer, and dont take a partner in his class do in your own way of study!! i took math 70 with mckenzie about 2 years ago but i still remember the materials but in math 90 with payvar
best teacher i've ever taken really wants to see his students succeed in the class, will do every thing possible to help
would not have survived math without this teacher! was ready to drop but he was definitely the best math teacher i have had at mjc
Mr. Payvar is hilarious, and so random. I would not recommend taking him if you actually want to LEARN the material because he teaches very fast and isn't very clear, but still manages to have student pass the class by means of E.C. and group quizzes/tests. I pulled an A and didn't have to take the final, and math is my worst subject..
Got an A in the class, and I sucked at math in high school... he's super easy and clear on his work, but make sure u sit in the front or else u will fall behind everyones big heads.. but the down fall is he doesn't like to explain things and will say it once. Easy A swear..
Mr. Payvar was the BEST math teacher that I ever had. I took Math 70 with a different in a previous semester and didn't pass. :( the teadcher was not very good. But I took Mr. Payvar and I passed! Mr. Payvar was great becasue he used lots of examples and showed you how do do problems. He is also very funny! I recommend him for math!!!
Easy teacher! He lets you do your quizes in groups. I took him for 70 passed and didnt even try. I took another teacher for 90 which was the biggest mistake of my life because now i have to take it over because she was a bad teacher! but im for sure taking payvar for 90 when i make it up!
I loved Payvar. He was very informative and kept the interest of the class. His class was difficult in that you had to be there everyday, listen well, and do your homework. However, if you have a seious interest in learning then you will do just fine~! If you want an easy teacher forget it!
Payver is wonderful. The class is a lot of work, but if you do it (i did homework everyday after class for like an hour and a half) - you'll pass. i haven't taken math since high school, and was really scared going in, but i learned SO much in his class. make sure you go to class. TAKE HIM!
All other math teachers fail in comparison to Payvar... he is not only able to make math an enyoyable subject..but his calm teaching style makes success attainable...basically don't freak out, pay attention, and you'll learn alot! He is truly the best! :)
eventhough I got an A+ in his class, I can't solve a simple matrix. Why? Because you either have a group test or you'll be given a list of exact problems for final. Do you think a caring and committed teacher would do such a way of teaching? I don't think so... Now you decide. Learn or fool yourself and become an idiot by staying in his class!!????
He is the best professor I've ever had! I had so many doubts about taking math, and he blew them out of the water. His teaching is clear, he makes sure you understand things, and he TRULY cares. His class IS hard, but he makes a good grade achievable. Anyone who would rate him poorly is a fool! He is an awesome instructor!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Payvar is the best damn math teacher i have ever had he is really helpful and i plan on taking all my math classes i need to transfer to fresno state. i would rather take it with the best than risk it with the worst. MR. PAYVAR ur the best math teacher man!!!!!!!!!!!!
awesome teacher! very helpful and wants the best for his students. do the homework and attend class is all it takes. Gives extra credit to help with the grade.
cool guy, very funny. hes good at taking the time out to explain problems, but his tests are nothing of the review which is annoying and he is the most UNORGANIZED professor. i wouldnt recommend to take him.
Ok this is how you pass math if you take Mr. payvar. 1) Do ALL of your homework everynight 2)do the extra credit 3) attend class everyday and be on time....the only thing that i struggled with was the final. His finals are very hard, but as long as you have a B by the end of the semester then you're in good shape, even if you fail the final.
semester was going fine & he helps kids & cuts them slack when needed. But his final was amazingly hard & nothing similar to the final review guide at all. The final dropped me & 3 friends an entire grade that totally screwed us over. He is the best teacher u can get at MJC for math & even he is unorthodox & terrible at times. waste of $$ & time.
Payvar is a great teacher. He is helpful and caring to those who try. If you are a slacker he will treat you like one. I got a "C" and probably deserved less but I tried very hard and he gives extra credit. I am so lucky to have taken his class.
Payvar's like a really good teacher at 1st, but towards the middle of the semester he starts telling students if u cant pass a test or dont understand something what are u doing in math 90, and gets grouchy when u ask him a question on something he just went over.i passed with a C,*WARNING* His test are nothing like the review, specially the final.
He is the worst teacher. Always turn in my home work--but never get it back So till the end of the semester u never know ur grade. He thinks he is funny but he is not.
I really like Mr Payvar as a person, but he is very unorganized. You do not get any feedback on homework, find out your grade the week before the final and he doesn't stick to his syllabus. If you are good at math you will do OK, but I think at least half of our class failed.
Mr. Payvar was a wonderful teacher. He was very clear on what he wanted and how he wanted it done. He wants his students to be successful!!!
Very Very helpful teacher. Always willing to help and very clear when teaching. Because of Mr. Payvar I will be able to transfer. THANK GOD FOR MR. PAYVAR!!!!!!!
Mr.Payvar is a GREAT TEACHER but vry strick!!He tries to give you the easiest way to wrk a formula. He is moody at times so watch out when asking ?s.Hook-up w/someone that likes math or gets the formulas. There's group work which helps alot. Do all the ? on test don't leave blank. Do Math bindr vry colorful, alot of pts earnd. #1 tchr!!
One of the best math teachers out there. wish i could take him for all my math classes. but doesn't fill my school schedual for the next semester =(
Everyone has his price. Buy him something and you don't even have to take the final. He will pass you with A+. You have to spend some money for this class to pass with A+.
This is not the teacher you should take if you are not naturally gifted in math! Very hard, has mood swings that could effect his teaching sometimes, and tests are nothing like what he has you study for. I worked really hard in this class and I still failed:(..expect to be a regular at the math lab.
he is great
Best math experience. If you struggle in math like I do and are just trying to get through it to get your Associates and then get your degree in something totally different from math, he is the teacher for you. He actually made me understand math when I could not before. He's GREAT at explaining math to dummies. His grading is also very fair.
He is crazy moody and gets really mad at the class! BUT he is a good teacher and makes lectures a breeze. He allows group tests which makes passing easy. Don't get on his bad side or you will be miserable!
I have taken Mr. Payvar for Math 70, 80 & and now 121. Math has never been easy for me, but he makes it fun. We can sometimes work in groups, but not for tests, only quizzes. He is always willing to help if you ask, but don't wait until the last minute. I have learned so much, and I am now ready for Stanislaus..
If you aren't successful in Payvar's course, go back to high school. He's an excellent teacher, he made me love math. He's very willing to help you, and if you have a brain, you can pass his class. Best math professor at MJC, he should be paid ten times as much to teach all the math at MJC. I've had other teachers there and no one compared to him.
Payvar is an excellent teacher. His teaching methods are excellent. I completed all the homework, extra credit but his test are HARD! The FINAL was TOUGH! I had a B+ before the FINAL. WOW, who know now! Payvar is very FAIR.
Extremely easy and helpful math teacher... offers lots of extra credit
Great Teacher!!! He's made a world's difference in my understanding & tolerating Math. I could never follow through but he's actually got me to enjoy doing math & I have a "B" in class thats speaks for me!!
He is a good teacher, but his tests are really hard...hes really nice, and would rather tell you a wrong answer is right instead of hurting ur feelings...kinda of weird, I know...but overall easy teacher, just pay attention and you will be fine!!
Mr. Payvar is Awsome! He actually made understanding Math easy. He really goes above and beyond to make sure you understand.
The best Math teacher I have ever encountered. Doesn't assign a lot of homework. Just show up and pay attention and you should be fine.
Very good math teacher. He explains it well and is fairly patient with students.
His class was horrible. You can't get ahold of him outside of class. Doesn't answer phone. Wont repeat anything. Class work is easy, but tests are very hard. Says extra credit is worth 50 but then says it is worth 20. Don't take him unless you are a math major.
GREAT TEACHER! VERY HELPFUL I HATE MATH, AND HE REALLY EXPLAINS IN A WAY ONE CAN UNDERSTAND, NOT TO MUCH HOMEWORK
Mr. Payvar has a unique sense of humor. No feedback on homework. He is usually more concerned with going home and "eating a chicken" than helping a student after a lecture. He is hard to connect with outside of class. Grade is based on major tests and Final.Shortcuts no good and tests are difficult compared to homework.Terrible at reviewing.
Payvar uses his shortcuts that put you at a disadvantage, according to drop-in center. Unless you know your test scores, no idea what your grade is. No homweork feedback. Not very helpful. Maybe it depends on mood. Most importantly, horrible for test/final review. Take someone else.
Payvar can make you laugh,"Cream of Crop" however, does not like to spend time explaining things over. He sucks at reviewing for test and final. Shortcuts do not help you in the long run. HIs shortcuts only help you if problem is the same or in his class. Sorry Mr. Payvar. Do not recommend!
Best teacher i've ever had, i went into this class with little interest in math and have always been told to steer clear of math, but now i love it! i had never seen any of the stuff we went over and it was all new to me, i studied hard and did as i was told and came out of the class with a B! i plan on taking payvar for 90 aswell, maybe calculus?
Mr.Payvar is an excellent teacher. The way he explains thiangs is in an orderly way. If you sit in the front, pay attention, and want to learn you will suceed. I highly recommend mr.Payvar. I did excertionally well in this class and didnt even have to take the final because my grade was so high!!!!!!
everyone states payvars class is so easy but in reality its not. this semester he moved fast and told us to review things that werent on the exams. would not take again
Great teacher, All you have to do is go to class, and DO YOUR HOMEWORK EVERYDAY, and ask questions. He is always willing to answer questions after class in his office, and takes great pride in his work. Gives review of tests before tests. Test arnt very hard but the final is tough.
Well his class is actually pretty relaxed compared to your average math class. He's got a great sense of humor and his stories made class fun at times. Decent teacher. Not really sure if it will prepare me for higher level math such as 171, though. Oh yeah, always do your homework. Duh.
I had math 70 twice from him big mistake because he was a little intimidating. he is Funny, dont agree that he is the best MAth teacher at JC. Hmk due at the end of the semester, doesnt review for tests and has you work in groups, no feedback on grades and gets annoyed when you ask for help. Get on his good side.
I agree with his teaching style, you have to be there to learn.
He is a realy good teacher
He is an awesome teacher. Ive enjoyed math for a while now but im comming out of this class with even more appriciation for the subject and my favorite two things are that he has and shows and sense of humor and he will explain and use real world applications in the work.
I would not recommend this teacher. His notes are hard to follow, when you need help he won't help you and maybe some minutes at the most. Miss a day of class and he's on you like a dog that he will even drop you on the 2nd or 3rd miss. Prepare to waste your whole semester doing a lot of math hw only to take a final so off from the assigned review
Great math teacher! I passed with an A, but you MUST do your hw everyday or else you'll fall behind(and its practice for the tests). He gives you a list of problems very similar to the ones on each quiz& test. Do those problems a couple days before the test/quiz so you'll have time to look them over.
Mr. Payavr is an excellent teacher. He really knows his stuff. I recommend him for Math90. I will be taking him for other math classes I have.
He's a great teacher just do your HW, try not to miss class & you'll be fine. I took him for math 90 and got an A! it is a lot of work but if you have an A in the class you don't have to take the final! He's the best!
He is the best teacher.
This teacher is funny at times and he gave me extra credit for drawing pictures on his roll sheet lol
he's a funny guy lol.You can get an A if you; 1. Attend class every day. 2. Do all of your homework 3. DO YOUR EXTRA CREDIT(it will help u with ur final grade)4. TAKE NOTES and study them. 5. If you have a good grade you wont have to take the final. p.s. I think he only wears stripped shirts lol. Take him some persian food and your good.lol Goodluc
This teacher is unblieveable Awesome in everyway!!. You will love going to class everyday, He is there for you in everyway and he will have a 1:1 with you. We need more teachers like him who cares and very helpful. I have trouble with Math but when I took him in 70/90 my whole world opened up...I highly recommend this math Professor!!! Thank you!
Before taking this class i hadn't taken math in almost 4 years.. He made is so easy and fun to understand! i would recommend him to anyone:-) He tells stories and makes the class enjoyable but stay on topic.. Great teacher!
Mr. Payvar is a really good teacher. He will help you when you ask for help in class or out. I am going to miss him not teaching 171 but look forward to taking his 172 class. Do all the homework and study and you will be fine. Great teacher?
GReat teacher and good person. MAkes MAth fun and easy(even though I hated and didn't understand math before I took math 70, and 90 with him. HE's just a great teacher and a great man!!!!
Best teacher ever! Let's you use calculators and a note card for exams. His classes fill up the day registration opens so be quick. Offers plenty of extra credit too. Hes very funny and you will learn everything you need to know with him. Just all around a great teacher!
Teaches the fundamentals with humor that makes class enjoyable to attend. Hits the bullet points of whats is needed to learn, and test are identical to reviews. Awesome personality, terrific teaching method, and wish he taught throughout entire math section. Payvar and Michelena are two great math teachers to take.
Prof. Payvar is genius in his teachings. His true concern for his students sets him apart and as far as I am concerned is the only Math teacher at MJC worth their weight in gold. He really wants his students to succeed and in return students are willing to go above the norm to do him proud. Thanks Mr. Payvar for being so dedicated.
Great professor. He really knows the subject, and understands any questions asked, and gives understandable answers. I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
If you love shortcuts, this is the teacher for you, Mr. Payvar is inconsistent , his lectures and notes are extremely hard to understand and he'll tell you, "You should know this to be in this class" Hey Buddy, If I knew it, I wouldn't be in Math 70. Not a good professor for 70, I DO NOT recommend.
I had him for Math 70 and Math 90, he is AWESOME! He is such a great and helpful teacher! He lets you know exactly what's going to be in the tests. He doesn't mind if you miss a lot but it's best if you don't because you will fall behind. He's very helpful and shortcuts are what he usually does. BEST TEACHER BY FAR that I've had.
doesn't like student being late yet he's late everyday!he is a good man but I would not recommend him.I did all my work but had to withdraw because his tests killed me!there around 12 ? but each ? is about 20 points!missing 1 ? can make a big difference!& yes he does have group tests but only 1 and its only 50 points.his tests are usually 150 pts.
I thought he was a good teacher. There were a lot of people in his class who were unhappy with their grade, but for me just doing the homework was enough to get me an easy B. I felt that if I tried a little harder I definitely coulve gotten an A easily. I'm taking him for 122
Mr. payvar is awsome. the only thing that bad about him is that he collects your hw untill the ene semeser so students tend to slack off. test are hard but he'll dropthe lwest one if yu improve. He only gives 50pts on ExCredit the whole semester. do the hw n he gives it he will help. try not to slack off hw helps so do it.
I love math, and I loved 70, but 90 kicked my butt. I spent hours with a study group, spent 20hrs for just one test. In the end though, only 2 people in the group of 14 had to take the final. You put effort into it, and Payvar will reward you for it. He's a great teacher to get you to understand what you are doing, not just do what the book says.
i loved him. He was very helpful and it woulndt hurt to suck up, he does favor students. Just study and talk to him if youre having difficulties. I cant wait to take math 122 with him.
Wonderful human being. Offers lots of extra credit copportunities (roll, etc) but to do well you MUST do the work. Lots of points for homework binder you turn in at the end. Will answer questions. Funny stories, good sense of humor. Go to the math center for help before tests: good way to prep if you have unreliable classmates (I hate study groups).
great teacher, he tries to help everyone out, teaches great, understands the topic, and he has a very nice personality.
He so easy
It's not payvar thats hard its the class! He's a good professor I cant stand math and had him 3hrs 6-9pm and got through! You must be discipline and do the hw even though he doesnt check till end! Study for exams and you'll pass. My only complaint is he's almost NEVER in his office lol but you can bug him when you see him.
Took him for 70 & 90, got an A in both. Attend every class, take good notes, do all homework the night it's given, attend his workshops. Take home exams are given in Math 90 and so is extra credit. Easy to get a good grade but you have to put in the effort!!!!
Great teacher! attend his class everyday, go to workshop, do the work, you will receive an A. Easy! :)
I scored into math121 but was recommended to take 90 first to "learn it the MJC way." Luckily for me this class was all review, but I can totally understand y people have to retake so manytimes. First 1/2 of sem. was spent on 70 review..now that we are learning the morecomplicated concepts, payvar spent little time explaining& ensuring we got it...
I took his math 70 and math 90 classes and got an A in each one! Mr. Payvar is my favorite teacher I have ever taken.
Brilliant man! Great teacher! Always willing to help. Definitely recommend taking him! If you go to workshops/SI sessions when you can and do your assigned work you will definitely succeed.
I got an A in math 70 so I was feeling confident going into math 90. Payvar would say one thing and do another. He would assign homework completely different from math problems on his tests. I constantly felt unprepared for tests, even though I studied very hard.On test days, he would cut class short, so many of us wouldn't to finish the test.
If you want an easy A, go for Payvar. He wasn't the best at explaining things but his exams are true to his "study guides" and homework, and he always clarified after class or when asked. I highly recommend daily attendance, especially the day before the tests/quizzes.
He is the easiest math teacher ever. he is very helpful; however, you MUST do the hw because the tests are all based on it. I took him for 121, currently taking him for 122, and I will take him for 171.
I loved taking both 121 and 122 from Dr. Payvar! He really loves math and it's his love of math that helps you learn and stay interested. I liked his class so much that I'm actually kind of disappointed that I am not taking calculus this semester! He made me really enjoy math in general. Plus, he's very helpful and nice. The class is pretty easy!
I took Mr. Payvar for both math 70 and 90. I am horrible at math but he actually made me want to do my homework because of his passion for teaching math. He is very helpful to people who want his help. I recommend him to anyone who has difficulty with math.
You must do the hw and study guides to pass. If you do you'll be fine. Great teacher with a lot of patience.
Kamran Payvar is a great instructor! I took his Math 90 class. His lectures are on point, he explains how to do problems thoroughly with step-by-step instructions. He allows notes on tests and has extra credit. Do not miss a day of lecture and do your homework it helps tremendously! I got an A in this class and haven't taken math in over 10 years!
He is the best Math professor on campus.
Payvar can teach really quickly at times and its hard to catch on BUT he allows you to use a cheat cheat for each exam. If you have an A by the end of the semester, you don't have to take the final. Attendance is mandatory. DO YOUR HOMEWORK or you won't get how to do the problems because he does it different from how the book does. Good luck!
Professor Payvar is awesome! I really enjoyed his class! All you need to do is attend class everyday, do the homework, and go to tutoring. We had an SI leader for our class. Don't be afraid to ask questions! I would recommend him to anybody. He is the best! I am going to miss his class!
BEST MATH TEACHER AT MJC... PERIOD! Payvar is extremely helpful and doesn't try to trick you when it comes to exams. He assigns study questions from the previous homework which completely reflect the problems on his exams! Best teacher.. wish all math teachers at MJC were like him
Payvar is one of the best professors you could ever have for math 90. He works well with students and hates to see one person fail. Just make sure you do all you homework whether it gets collected or not, show up everyday ready to learn, and pay close attention to how he teaches. With that you will have no problem passing the class!!
Lots of group work, but a tough grader. Rambles like no professor I've ever taken before. Hard to understand through his thick accent, and often have to remind him we can't see the bottom of the board. Constantly messes up vocabulary, keeps calling an input-output chart a "venn diagram" Also "what is the answer should be" hurts my grammars
Easily the best Mathematics professor at MJC. You will learn so much from Professor Payvar. I went into his Calculus I class fearing for my life and walked out of there with an A and an appreciation for mathematics that I never thought I could harbor. Extremely friendly, approachable, and tells tons of hilarious stories. Take him for any math.
I am telling everyone to be careful of Payvar! He has a thick accent so it is hard to understand him. He expects everyone to already know Math 90 material even if you haven't taken it before. He really isn't that great of a teacher. I am shocked he has so much good reviews. I am failing math 90 so far when I got an A in Math 70. He is difficult.
Payvar is pretty nice and funny, but he does not explain instructions clearly. You do a lot of group work and even some group quizzes. Yes it is true he lets students use cheat sheets, but the material he tells you to review and study is not exactly whats on his exams.
Payvar is the absolute best! Don't know what the last 2 reviews are about. Probably didn't attend class or go to SI and dropped. Sets you up for success. Outlines what content is on test and allows notecards. I'm really bad at math yet I have an A. Put the time, go to SI and take good notes. NO FINAL if you reach a certain point total before final!
Do your homework! He bases all of his Exams off of the homework! Literally! Plus if you attend every class, participate, and just be friendly with Payvar, he'll treat your grades well! You turn in your homework binder at the end of the semester and that determines whether you have to take the final! I didn't have to, and got an A!!!
I recently finished Professor Pavyar's Math 90 Fall Semester. He is without a doubt ONE of the BEST professors I have EVER taken. Form a study group. Get to know the people who sit around you. Do all of your homework assignments. DO NOT FALL BEHIND. GO TO SI. He makes Math 90 easy and do able. Assignments are easy if you pay attention in class.
I had to take this class even though it was a basic repeat of what i learned in high school. I'm very glad I was able to take it with Payvar though! He made class fun and interesting. He is a funny guy and doesn't assign too much homework. He will let you do at least part of your homework in class as a group of 3 or 4, which is really nice.
His wit in the class provides a relaxing atmosphere, just likes muscles need rest, so does your brain when you use it. He passes students who worked hard by studying the material, doing the homework, seeking help when needed. He loves a hard working student. Study groups to prepare for exams are very useful. Overall, dedication is key.
Payvar is a gem that MJC needs to work to keep around, between Professor Cripe and Payvar they are really the two best mathematics professors the school has. Payvar is hilarious, from the accent to his stories about his cat- every lecture is something to look forward to. Not to mention, he broke calculus' big bad image and makes it easy to grasp!
Payvar is a great Math professor. His tests are easy and based on the review questions that he gives out for the test. If you attend class every day, and do your hw, You will get an A in his class. I have taken payvar for 4 semester all the way to math 172 and I have received A in all those courses.
He is constantly giving hw problems that he doesn't explain in class. He gives hw that are not based on his lectures . He gives extra credit but doesn't explain the concepts . I've had to teach myself trig because he is such a sorry professor
My FAVORITE math professor! His lectures are clear and very easy to understand. To be honest he's the reason why my heart warmed up to math again. He does have an accent but it's not hard to understand. He's very funny too, which is good so you don't doze off in class. Also, when I am not taking his class I still go to him for help.
Greatest math Professor at MJC.
Really good guy but he's not very clarifying. Often times, students are confused at the tasks. He never answers your emails either.
really great guy, helpful and clear with his instructions while making the subjects new and fun to learn. The tests aren't too tough but the final covers all of the semester not just the study guide (regardless of what he says) so study! Allows huge "note cards" (pieces of binder paper) and requires no memorization whatsoever for all tests.
he is a great teacher very helpful and willing to help if you need it. he explains himself very well. if you miss class however and do not tell him or get notes from a student you wont pass. I took his Math 70/90 combo class its a fast paced class I passed both classes with B's. as long as you study and do your work you will pass.
He is the best teacher ever! He is so funny and keeps the class interested. I actually look forward to going to class everyday! Taking Math 70/90 combo. Go to class everyday, do the homework, study- you'll pass. I'm SO bad at math, but he makes concepts incredibly easy to grasp. It constantly amazes me how much I'm learning (and understanding!)!!!
His teaching style is dependent on his tutor Silvia. He does not go over the homework nor the tests. Be sure to write answers in greenbook or answer is not graded!!The worst part about him as that he does not go over the test after its graded, he expects you to go to Tutoring class, which is not required! He may be funny, but this is not comedy .
Payvar was one of the best professors. Explains Math very well, and makes classtime worth while! Only way you will succeed in his class is if you do your homework daily and show up to class every time. His tests are exactly what he lectures on. He explains what he expects from you as a student so there is no surprises during the semester.
Makes Math easy to understand.
Payvar does a great job at explaining simple patterns in math and it makes it easy and interesting to grasp the concepts.
Awesome teacher!!!! He loves math and does an awesome job at teaching/explaining the concepts. If you show up everyday, take good notes you should get an A with no problem. Keep up with the hw. While lecturing when he says this will be on the test write it down because it most definitely is :) the best math teacher I've ever had.
Payvar provides necessary material (including extremely helpful exam review questions!) for a student to succeed in 171. He will prep students for 172. As with any math class, a student's level of success depends on his self-discipline, especially in doing hw. Taking advantage of all resources will make this class a piece of cake.
Professor Payvar is a nice guy and is very passionate about the subject, but he is very unclear and disorganized. I feel like I went through his class without really understanding anything but got a high grade regardless. This was much more of a hindrance than a help, as Math 122 sets the basis for the higher math classes.
I took his 70/90 course and passed 70 but I don't think I did well in 90. It was my fault not his! I didnt study!! Hes great at his job and very funny. He wants his students to do well and be sure not to miss because it reflects poorly on you as a student and if you dont care he wont either.. He will help the students who show up everyday pass.
Best teacher at MJC! His lectures are interesting and he explains everything so you know exactly what you are doing and why you are doing it. Show up to class everyday, do your homework (it will prepare you for the test), participate in class and have a good time, he tells a bunch of funny stories!
A lot can be said about this teacher. Your grade is mostly based off of tests and a little off of homework. Occaisionally offers extra credit. Beyond that, if you're looking for an easy A find another teacher, but if you really want to know about math this is ur teacher. Most I've ever learned in a class. Not a math major but 10/10 would recommend
Professor Payvar is amazing! I had him for the summer class (7 weeks) and I enjoyed every single day of the class. Our grades were based on tests and quizzes. Homework is not graded but make sure you do the homework because tests and quizzes are almost same as homework problems! He gives review problems before the exam and also gives extra credit!
I am not very mathematically inclined. Mr. Payvar always answered my questions in detail and even showed me ways to help myself. In order to get a good grade even if you don't do well in math, you need to speak up. Ask questions and go to the bored to do the problems. He's a very understanding man. Just be honest and do your best.
One of the best math professors at MJC and cares about students learning the material. He gives group quizzes and gives a lot of text credit as well as letting students retake test.
I took his math 121 & 122 in the summer and it was so much fun. His lectures are informative and completely relevant to the tests and the homework. He's old school so he won't do an online homework system, even though the piratesnet thing says so, which is convenient to both the student and the professor when any confusion happens on the homework.
Professor Payvar is an excellent Math professor. He has a way of explaining things clearly so everyone can understand. He is a very old fashioned teacher, so expect to do your homework from the book. Overall, it was a great experience! I'm going to try and take other math classes with him!
Amazing experience!
He is super funny n nice.
He is great professor I love him as a person I easily understand math with him being the teacher
Mr. Payvar is by far the best math teacher/professor I have ever had. I am not good at math at all but he makes everything click. I can't imagine taking math with anyone else because he is just that great. His lectures are delightful and he is a truly wonderful person who is passionate about what he does.
Lectures are long and he gets off topic easily. BUT explains everything super clearly. Really cares that everyone passes and understands
I am not good a math so I was nervous before taking his class. He is one of the best math professors I have had. He explains well and he grades fairly. I would suggest him for anyone that has struggled with math. If he sees that you are trying and making an effort so will he. Will be taking him again for math 171
The Best! Such a great teacher. But if you Skip class it will be hard to pass the class.. It's just how math is (for most people.) He is a great professor and grades on improvement as well. He wants everyone to succeed and truly cares. Excellent math teacher.. Best one I've ever had.
Payvar is a very smart man; quite possibly the smartest mathematician at MJC. He is great at explaining things in a variety of ways and knows the material so well. With that said, he is mind-numbingly easy and he does not push his students at all. I basically had to push myself in his calculus 3 class because Payvar expected almost nothing from us.
No clue what he was saying half the time. Got off on tangents every class and would never respond to emails. Refused to help struggling students and didn't change his teaching method when needed. Didn't use a grade book and never corrected work. Honestly and unfortunately, (not like he can change it) the accent made everything ten times worse.
I took a Math 70/90 combo class in the Spring with Professor Payvar, and overall enjoyed my experience with him. He definitely gives students equal opportunities to pass. I would take another class with him.
Professor Payvar is a good math teacher. He is very old fashion in the sense he does not use any online program such as Canvas to post grades, and all the homework comes straight out of the book. He gives at least one take home test, which is a great grade booster. Professor Payvar likes to see students making an effort, and if you do you'll pass.
He is an incredibly smart individual and mathematician. Works with students and wants them to succeed. If you show up to class and participate, you will learn a lot and do well. He shows you many different ways to do the math, and helps you find which way works for you best. Truly an amazing professor.
Though lighthearted he is very hard to follow. He's very disorganized in his teaching. Hard to contact outside of class. Class felt rushed. I learned more on my own than from him. He gives extra credit and lets you use note cards on the test. Still was difficult knowing what to put in those note cards. Reviews problems didn't help. Unpredictable.
Payvar is hands down the best Math teacher I've ever had. He makes things very clear and easy to get. If you don't understand something, he'll help you before and after class. You wont make it if you skip class or don't do the homework, but overall, he's kind and super funny. I highly recommend him to anyone that has had a hard time with Math.
My favorite math professor at MJC! Don't mess up on any of the exams though because he says he will replace the final with your worst exam score but he doesn't do that.
Fair math teacher. If you do the homework, you will pass the tests. Uses green books. I would recommend him.
Payvar is the best professor I have had for math. After dropping 161, I tried again with Payvar's class, and his teaching style made it way easier to understand! He's helpful and truly interested in his students. Just be sure to do the homework he assigns because it helps when exam time comes. One thing is he's a little scattered with paperwork
Since high school Id have to say I have STRUGGLED with math. I literally hated it and dreaded taking any math class but its required. I have never had a professor who made math so dang easy and fun. PLEASE TAKE PAYVAR. He deserves way more credit than he is given. Take home exams and lots of extra credit. I wish he could be my math teacher forever
Payvar is an insane Mathematician. He does not use the online math tools for Homework so a text book is definitely a must for his classes. He assigns a ton of homework but only to benefit the student's learning. He does not actually grade each homework assignment. Your grade will stem 99% from Exams and Quizzes so be prepared. But he is AMAZING!
I took math 90 with professor Payvar. I have never been very good at math but Payvar made everything easy to understand and he taught a few different methods to get an answer. His tests are a majority of your grade, take it seriously. He is understanding and will help you out at long as you make an effort in his class he will do what he can to help
Professor Payvar taught an excellent calculus course. His exams are very straightforward, review his study guide, study his lecture problems and your basis will be covered. He is also willing to adjust test dates on a last minute basis, something students don't appreciate. Don't think because he's wishy-washy hes a bad instructor, he's a keeper.
Absolutely the worst Math Professor I have ever had. You walk out of the class feeling so confused because he doesnt teach in a methodical manner at all. He jumps from here to there and it is just so difficult to follow him. Maybe his mind was somewhere else this semester, but this will be my last time taking a class taught by him.
Professor Payvar is the best Math teacher I have taken! I went into the class hoping for a C and ended with an A. I would highly recommend him! He makes lectures fun!
Definetly uses the book alot so make sure you get the book. He is really nice and funny. A lot of h.w but overall good teacher.
Great professor he really takes the time to teach the subject. Attend class every day or else you will be lost the next day .He goes off topic at times but makes his class worth while. no online homework only book which is awesome.
His teaching style is confusing. He's not so approachable either. He doesn't answer emails and he's never at his office hours. There are 4 exams and one of them is take-home. If you score well on the first 3 exams, you do not need to take the final. I would recommend tutoring because he's no help at all.
Calc 2 is hard with any professor. But Payvar makes it a little easier. His test questions come from random homework problems, straight from the book. He even gave us a list of 50 problems that could be on the tests, that he would only choose 10 from. Only bad thing: he looses track of what he commits to, promising extra credit, then not giving it.
I had to teach myself math. Mr. Payvar was not very helpful. I really didn't learn much from his lectures.
He is one of the best math instructors that I've ever had, I had Payvar for three of my classes, and he was amazingly great. He knows what he's doing. He has the knowledge and he's one of those instructors that can transfer his knowledge to his students. He is always in his office and he actually cares about his students.
I am sure that there is no teacher better than him at MJC. He has the best lectures ever, funny, and useful classes. A lot of opportunities for extra credit, and he is great on his grading and generous. He helps you a lot even though if it's not on his lecture times.
I love this professor! Hes amazing.
He is the best math teacher, taken him for trig & precalc. Hes funny, easy to understand, and teaches things you wont learn in the book. Lots of (ungraded) hw, grades based off of tests only (few exceptions), some in-class group work, a few take home exams, extra credit opportunities, and you must show up to class. Love the way he runs his class.
Took him for Math 90, and it was a good experience. If you maintain an A average on all of the 3-4 exams he gives, then you dont have to take the final! Pretty cool professor and explains things clearly.
Professor Payvar is hilarious. Loved taking math 90 with him will take his other math classes for sure
He is a great professor! He thoroughly explains the material. Not just the what, but also the why. Why are we learning the material? How can we apply it to everyday life? Whats the story behind what were learning?
Took him over the summer. He is always willing to help his students. I was having trouble and he was helpful. A big plus is that before exam he gives 15-20 exam questions to study no need to waste time studying useless material & you get 1 take home exam. Show effort and you will pass. Best Math professor looking back the material was not tough.
He was a good professor for precalc. Im bad at math and Im suprised I made it this far, but Payvar makes things easy an understandable
I took his class over the summer for Math 90. Hes a good professor. hilarious and offers extra credit. Show up to class. He made me look forward to learn.
Hes extremely rude for one , every time I ask a question I get berated in front of the class when its something I really need clarification on , he gives and extremely large amount of hw , completely unreasonable.... dont recommend
I took his short summer class, which I expected to be really hard but it honestly wasnt. He is super funny and caring. He likes to tell stories which was nice to sorta break up the class time a bit since it was a 4hr long class 4 days a week. I love this professor and I would take him again if I had the chance. Do the homework!!
Professor payvar knows how to make math easy. He is the best professor Ive had for math thus far. I highly recommend him.
Really recommend you to take Payvar, He is so funny and a really good instructor. As long as you do the homework for practice you will pass the class. The quizzes and exams are really easy too as long as you study! I passed with an A!!
Very good professor for Calc1. I had him over the summer, and every day I got a better understanding of the concepts. He is a funny guy, and down to earth. Lots of homework, but the homework is district mandatory I believe.
Payvar is a great teacher! I took him for both 161 and 162, he's willing to help and easy to reach one on one. He made learning easy, his class was enjoyable.
I took Math 30 as a hybrid and his lectures were amazing. By the end of the day, I understood how to solve his problems. Hes so funny and is clearly passionate about math. I hated math, now I love it. Now Im taking Math 90 with him and so far, its great.
his class is fairly easy if you go to class and do all the homework on track. His lectures go by fast and sometimes are usually short. The tests are easy if you study or go on the days he reviews. Theres a lot of partner work. He's so funny and tells crazy stories. Great professor
Professor Payvar is amazing. If you can get into one of his classes, I highly recommend it. He sometimes gets off topic during lectures but he always gets through what he needs to. He never rushes and he offers a good amount of extra credit!
Ive taken a bunch of courses with Payvar! He makes difficult subjects seem easier. Group work in class. Offers extra credit. Take him!
This professor's lectures were very interesting. He is the first person who actually opened an interesting world of mathematics for me. I always hated math before, but during his lectures, I actually understood everything and was impressed with how taken by his lectures. Take this class and you will be happy and not stressed out.
Mr. Payvar is a phenomenal math professor who understands the in's and out's of mathematics. He teaches both higher and lower level math classes, therefore, he understands what needs to be taught at the trigonometry/precalculus level in order to succeed in the calculus/diff. eq. classes later on. Hilarious professor and a genuine human being.
This professor does not care about his students like he says he does. He doesn't have time to answer a question. He won't let you know your grade in the class until the end. He is busy cracking jokes and telling stories. When he teaches, it's different then the textbook. He has criticized the textbook that is assigned. TRUST ME, DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!
Professor made me like math
Gives the students an easy way to resolve problems. He makes sure that students do some works before leaving the class so that would help the students not forget what he just taught us.
A lot of class time is used of topic, other than that he is a pretty good teacher.
Math 90 was AMAZING with him!!! He is a genius.
I liked Payvars class. He definitely has great knowledge about mathematics and it shows. He offers plenty of extra credit to students to boost their grade. My only complaint is that we dont find out our grades until the end of the semester. Id still recommend him though.
Professor Payvar is so inspiring. He knows what hes talking about , since hes been teaching Math for years. Hes clear on what he wants and most importantly he cares!! He cares about his students. I didnt want to leave his class
Don't take his tougher classes if you are already not that much of a math wiz. Mostly assumes you know what you are doing. Does spend time telling great stories but no good to those who are math strugglers. A great man but assumes you know things.
I cannot say enough good things about Payvar. He always starts by explaining the foundation of a lesson, how it came to be, why it needs to be done that way and then how to do it. He is extremely thorough and is always willing to answer questions. Everything is straight from the text, even some exam questions. Study, show up and ask questions!
Hw due next day 25pts binder due 100. Group quizzes, offers extra credits. Three exams, finals optional. Grades given a week before finals. Noticed the grade book only showed four scores. With that being said, hw, group quizzes, extra credit were not worth anything. Basically, overall grade is off of the 3 exams.
Trig was hard for me but he was a great professor
AMAZING
Payvar doesnt highly structure his classes and I feel it makes them much more flexible and adaptable. He is always willing to work with students who are missing assignments or such. The only complaint I could have is that he doesnt use online resources, but theyre hardly necessary
Best math teacher I have ever had. Payvar is a very smart man, who truly loves math and cares about his students. He is an incredibly good teacher as well, his lectures are straightforward and entertaining, he clearly explains everything he does, answers questions. I had him for calc 171/172 and cannot recommend him enough. I like math now
I cant even begin to explain how good of a teacher he is. I'm HORRIBLE at math, but payver actually made me enjoy it. He's super understanding and wants every student to do well. He's super smart and I truly wish he taught all math classes. He assigns homework every class period but he checks them the day before the final in a binder.
I am taking Payvar for Trig and he is a great professor. He actually goes into depth on the concept and how they relate to real world situations. He does assign homework but it is rare that it's more than 10 problems. He listens to his students and truly seems invested in giving students the appropriate background to go into higher math.
Highly recommend him. Payvar truly wants his students to succeed. Make sure you attend class everyday so you don't get behind. Also, make sure to do the homework and study for exams. Cal 2 is doable with Payvar. Take any of your math classes with Payvar.
Professor Payvar was an awesome instructor to learn from. You have to pay attention in class and he expects you to study the material heavily before each class, but this should be no problem due to the way he explains in his lecture.
Professor Payvar is an amazing teacher. If you show up to every lecture, put in honest work then you will most likely pass his class. His lectures are very entertaining, and his silly jokes keep you interested during class time. Do not take his kindness for weakness. If he feels you're not putting in the effort he will have no problem failing you.
There's so many great things I can say about Prof Payvar. He is THE best Prof I've taken at MJC. I hated math with a passion, but he made me love it and enjoy math. He is a kind & understanding Prof. I took math 134, Math 161 and Math 162 (online) with him. Please take him, he is the best! You wont regret it!!
One of the best math professors at MJC it's a well known fact his classes are always full. He teaches really well and cares about his students passing. He will meet with you for office hours and help you go over the material. No BS from him you ask and he will explain. Straight forward exams and quizzes. 10/10 professor at MJC.
If you are taking your last required math class, then I do recommend him. If you are planning to take Math 162 and above DON'T take his class. He will not prepare you for the next math class. Sure, his class is easy. But now that I am in calc, there is a lot that he did not teach me. Trig is essential in calc!
Now I know why his classes are always full. His exams are multiple-choice, and you can use any resource. YES, even photomath. Sure, it's an easy A, but I am not learning anything! His class is screwing me over, I am not learning anything. I don't know why people say he is the best teacher. He is not. He really doesn't care if we learn. A's for all
I heard great things about this prof but ended up having to drop his course. His videos are really bad quality and hard to follow. He also doesn’t use MML. In Covid times, I’ve learned more from MML then Professor video lectures. Take someone else if you can if you’re like me and need more than just a hastily put together video.
First, this professor is really nice and super caring about his students. BUT his class isn't the best if you have a hard time understanding math like me. I don't really understand his lectures because he uses stories to explain math which doesn't really help me. I had to watch other people's lectures in order to understand.
Without Professor Payvar, I would have never been able to understand math in the way I do now. He was very clear during his instruction and even tossed in a few great and hilarious stories. Professor Payvar did what no other instructors could ever do, and that is to make math actually interesting and doable. 10/10 the best math instructor I've had
This teacher is one of my favorite teachers ever. His lectures make sense and he is willing to help you if you do not understand. He cares about you getting a good grade and allows opportunities for extra credit. His tests and quizzes are difficult if you do not do the homework. He is a far better teacher than any other math teacher at MJC.
Professor Kamran is great teacher and I can't recommend him enough. His lectures are in depth and easy to understand. The homework he provides is very helpful and he explains how to solve it in class after it is due. The tests are very manageable due to the homework being really good preparation for it.
I can honestly and wholeheartedly say Payvar is the best professor I've had at MJC, and perhaps one of the best instructors and mentors I've ever had. I worried before taking him, that he had inflated ratings due to his classes being an easy A, but that is not the case. Payvar earns his high RMP rating by being fair, fun, and an amazing instructor.
Take this class, Math-33 and Math-111 if you're a STEM major. Do not take this course if you're not a STEM major.
I am currently taking Math 33-111 and I would like to stress the importance of enrolling in these specific classes, especially if you're planning on pursuing a major relative to STEM. Mr. Payvar constantly provides real-life applications of the provided course information and always offers help. Exceptional professor, even for my first term!
Professor Payvar is one of my favorite teachers at Modesto Junior College. His lectures. He cares about all his students, and give extra credit. His quizzes are not difficult if you do the homework. He is a far better teacher than any other math teacher at MJC. I recommend taking class with him, because the students will be able to learn from him.
I highly recommend you take this class in person as opposed to online. While online classes can be helpful for people with transportation problems, some concepts are much easier to grasp when you have a great professor like Payvar to explain it ti you personally.
First, I don't think he is even qualified to teach calc 2. An easy A, but you will not learn at all. His exams are super easy, he gives you about 50 questions, and he selects from them. If you are planning to take higher math courses, don't even think about taking him. He is not a qualified math professor for high-level math courses.
I took precalc & calc 1 with Mr. Payvar and he was awesome! He is willing to accommodate your situation and he gives out extra credit. Although the majority of your grade is based on test scores, all of his tests are derived from the homework he's assigned, so no unwelcome surprises. He keeps lectures interesting and explains concepts well!
I have taken multiple classes with Professor Payvar. He has gone out of his way to answer questions outside of office hours and restored confidence in my ability to do the math. He is very understanding about life circumstances and willing to work with you to help you meet your goals. I would recommend him to anyone looking to go further in math.
Mr. Payvar is a great professor who gives a reasonable amount of homework and answers questions during class. He makes lectures interesting and his tests are based on the homework, so if you do the homework you'll do great. He does occasionally spring a pop quiz on us, but when he does were allowed to use notes and work in teams. 10/10 recommend!
Professor Payvar is beyond amazing! I have never enjoyed math until I took his class. This is the first time I am able to comprehend math. Attendance is mandatory but he makes class a lot of fun! I can not express enough how happy I am with the way he teaches. I look forward to having him as my professor for my future math classes.
This is one of the only STEM programs that MJC offers and its really a great class to build a good math foundation for your future classes in higher level math. The workload isn't overbearing, there's plenty of opportunities for extra credit, and the environment of the class is great. Mr. Peyvar is a great and helpful teacher.
Mr. Payvar is the best math professor! I have never been good at math, nor do I like it! But he interestingly and thoroughly explains concepts and cares about the students. He NEVER puts students down and is ALWAYS willing to help. I recommend him for ANY math class, especially higher-end courses, due to his detailed, easy-to-understand lectures!
Mr. Payvar is a great professor. Participation in the class is easy as he motivates every student to participate with extra credit and team groups. His lectures are structured in an easy-to-follow format. Tests are often based on homework, so you'll do great if you put in the work! Attendance is key, or you'll end up disoriented! 10/10 Recommend :)
To create a firm & solid foundation for later classes, take this; after [in order] take 161 (Trig), then 162 (Precal), and finally 171 (Calculus). NOT recommend going into 171 directly even if some (counselors) would say so. Math is a language in itself and building from a firm start and continuing it is key. Struggle in math? Take this class.
If your planning on becoming a STEM Major, I'd highly recommend this class! I originally took this class because a friend that's in Calculus 2 took it and said it really sets you up to succeed later on in higher levels of Math. If you're someone like me that doesn't always get Math 1st try, this class is a great way to get exposed this stuff early!
Mr. Payvar truly cares about his students. He answers all of our questions and goes over anything we are struggling with. He checks in with us to see where we are at academically and works with us which is really helpful. He is very willing to help you where you are at, and as long as you communicate to him and come to class you should do very well
I definitely would recommend this class to high school students, math 111 is very helpful for STEM majors, Professor Payvar is an amazing, hilarious, knowledgeable teacher I ever had, this class is amazing and fun while you are learning, attendance is very important is this class, I would definitely have Professor Payvar in the future
If you are planning to take trig and have not taken algebra 2 I highly recommend to take math 33 first or else trigonometry will be almost impossible to do. Took his Math 101 course in the spring of 23 and loved it, the class wasn't very long but he was able to teach us and have us grasp new concepts during that short period of time. I also enjoyed that he encouraged group work.
Professor Payvar is an awesome. Overall you can tell he cares about his students. There is a lot of home work and the tests are weighted very heavy. He does use a lot of short cuts which is unfortunate if you are a person that likes to follow a process and know the meaning behind every step you take.

Payvar is a great teacher when it comes to give presentations about the chapter but his class can get very unorganized with the piles of homework. Payvar does not use canvas so being in the classroom is a must. As well as not being able to know your grade until the end of the semester. Not a bad teacher overall but I wouldn't take again

Professor Payvar is an engaging teacher who makes the material easy to understand. The textbook and class sessions are essential, but unstuckstudy AI was a helpful supplement for test prep. Overall, a rewarding class worth taking.
