The lectures are very fast-paced, and she can be hard to understand. The homework is simple - one assignment due each week and one Concept Check. Attend the lectures for CC answers. For tests, you're fine if you do the DSLs (which are all extra credit). TAKE EC OPPORTUNITIES. She's pretty nice. Not the worst chem teacher to have by a long shot.
No, just don't take it. Switch your major if you have to take this class
She cares a lot for her students and her office hours are the best since she has a lot of patience for you. Even though her lectures are a bit boring, she does a great job explaining. Be prepared to take notes of some stuff that she says since it will be useful for the exams. I recommend her for CHM114 since she puts a lot of energy.
I'm in Chem 116. It's rough. It's challenging material and I feel like the test are more challenging versions of the homework. I do not feel like her teaching style sets students up for success.
This is her first time teaching and you can tell. I am a mostly A's and few B's student but this by far is the hardest class I have taken. Her own students have to correct her in lecture and she words test questions in the most confusing way. Do not take this professor for CHM 116. This class may be worse than Physics 111.
This is her first time teaching, so it's not fair to be too harsh. However, she can go very fast sometimes, and other students often correct her on her calculations while solving problems in class. She isn't a horrible teacher, but the tests and homework are a lot harder than what we learn in class. If you can, take another professor.
She teaches her class purely off of the slides available online. The homework is much harder than the lectures to such a degree that they feel like they were made for completely different classes. I would recommend taking this class at a community college if it's required for your major, otherwise don't.
Her passion for chemistry shows through her teaching. She takes real life examples to explain difficult concepts like buffers. She's very kind and I often visit her office hours which helped me a lot. I would definitely recommend this professor for CHM 116.
This is her first time teaching general chemistry but she does a great job. The exams are a little tough, but she gives you an idea of what to expect for the exams during her lectures and review questions in class. Her tone is warm and friendly. She makes sure that everyone is on the same page by asking if students had questions.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is very knowledgeable and cares a lot for her students. The course is a little fast paced, but that can't be blamed on her as it's the nature of the course. Her office hours are particularly helpful and she will explain the same concept over and over again until you understand it. She also offers a ton of extra credit
She offers more than 50 points of EXTRA CREDIT. The course isnt the easiest but if you attend lectures and office hours regularly, you can do well. P.S- She's so friendly and her office is so cool!
She is willing to help us outside of class during office hours. She also sometimes stays longer than her office hours to help students out. Take her for CHM 114.
Professor takes examples from Env chemistry to explain concepts in class. 2 lowest homework scores and lowest CC score is dropped from the overall grade. Allows a cheat sheet for the 3 unit exams and 2 sheets for the final exam. She creates a safe space for learning especially during office hours and assures that there are no stupid questions.
She responds rapidly fast to emails and wants to help you to the best of her ability. Go to her office hours, you will not regret !
Dr. Chandrakanthan is one of the most compassionate professors I know. She goes the extra mile to explain a concept when you are confused and I have found her office hours very useful
Always in a good mood whenever students show up for office hours. Can tell she likes what she does.
I was initially not sure if her office hours would be helpful or about her rapport with students. But after going once my opinion entirely changed. She's the nicest professor I have known ! You would do well to take advantage of her office hours.
Takes examples from environmental chem to explain difficult concepts. Heard she's teaching CHM 113 next semester. Once I couldn't attend her scheduled office hours but I was able to schedule additional office hours with her and ask questions. Heard she's teaching CHM 116 next semester too. I would definitely recommend taking her.
As a freshman it took me a hot minute to get used this course, and it's not the easiest. But I started attending her office hours regularly and that really got me interested in chemistry. She will explain in different ways until you understand difficult concepts. She really cares about students and wants to see them succeed.
Professor Kanchana is very approachable and readily helps whenever I have a question. She does review questions in class in addition to covering the lecture material and concept checks which gives students extra practice on solving problems. Some days she also does the extra credit problem sets in class. Really cares for student success
The best chemistry teacher I have ever had. Her office is never without students and you can tell she cares a lot for them. She checks my work for problems and tells me exactly what I did wrong, and helps me improve. The best.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is one of the nicest professors u will meet at ASU. She is always happy to help a student out and goes out of the way to ensure student success.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is always happy to answer questions during her office hours. The course is fast and I find difficulty understanding some concepts but it is just how the course is structured. She allows for an open environment for learning. Definitely would recommend her for CHM 114.
Professor Kanchana is cheerful and helped me whenever I reached out to her. She offers a lot of extra credit opportunities and gives you tips on how to do well in tests.
The professor held office hours outside of her regular hours to help me out. She wants the best for her students and tries to help to the best of her ability. She teaches CHM 116 next semester and I would defined recommend her !
I think she does a freaking good job not just making sure we understand the material but trying to handle all the cry babies in class lol
One of the MOST CARING professors you will meet at ASU- highly recommend her office hours !! GOAT professor
If you pay attention to her review questions and points she stresses in lecture, it's really not that hard to get a decent grade in this class. The bad reviews here were probably by the ones who find it difficult to handle the fact that this isn't high school anymore and they can't always get what they want without working for it ha
One time I was so confused on a buffer calculation and I went to her office hours to see that she's the nicest professor you will meet. She explained the problem again and again until I understood it. DEFINITELY take her if you can.
Honestly do not know why anyone would give her some of the bad reviews I'm seeing here. I am unable to attend her office hours because of other commitments but whenever I reached out to her by email on homework problems she responded rapidly fast with clear explanation.
I did not do as well as I would have wanted to in Unit Exam 1 and 2. But then I met with Dr. Chandrakanthan for help and she gave me tips on how to improve and be effective. The course goes by extremely fast but that's just structure of the it. With help,I was able to finally find my rhythm in learning the material properly
Dr. Chandrakanthan rapidly responded whenever I was confused on a topic. It took me a while to get used to the course content on canvas and how to navigate it, but it was no biggie after I learnt it. She genuinely cares for her students and I can't for the life of me understand why someone would trash her on this platform
Dr. Chandrakanthan is very helpful if you reach out to her. The course started out challenging but got easier after each exam. She honestly makes it a lot easier than it could be. She tells you what to expect on the exam which was free points if you reviewed the homework/practice exams. I would recommend taking her, she sets you up to pass.
She replies fast to any question you might have, and wants the best for her class. The course has three unit exams and one final exam. There are online homework sets on canvas which aren't too bad. She also works out extra problems in class so that we get more practice. Lots of extra credit. I would for sure recommend her for CHM 116.
She responded readily whenever I reached out for help and truly wants her students to succeed. You can tell she cares. Would definitely recommend her for CHM 114.
The most caring professor I know at ASU. Her office hours helped me get through this semester. Unit 3 was a little hard for me to understand conceptually but she made sure I understood the material by explaining concepts multiple times by taking different approaches. She is the best.
Professor Chandrakanthan sets you up for success as she is very clear during her lectures on what to expect for the exam. In addition to concept checks and extra credit problems, she also does review questions in class. When I had a question on homework she replied fast and she is so friendly.
Professor Chandrakanthan was very easy to follow in her lectures and made it very clear what we needed to know for exams. The material was challenging but she was helpful and made the class much less difficult.
She goes through lectures really fast. Not very much homework, offers extra credit. Exams are online. She has a good personality. LENGTHY extra credit!!!! 20-30 questions for 1 point is crazy. Overall, not horrible, just not my favorite type of professor. If you're good at speedy lectures, then you'll be fine.
If you pay attention to her lectures, it is really hard to get a bad grade in this course. Super caring professor. She does whatever it takes to see her students succeed (powered through a lecture extremely sick with an added AI voice which was hilarious yet effective). She offers a ton of extra credit and is always open to answering questions.
Class is going to be fast pace no matter the professor. She gives good lectures and a lot of extra credit. you can tell that she really does care about her students.
Professor Chandrakanthan is a very nice and and helpful during her office hours. I went one time not knowing her office hours were over but she was still in her office and didn't mind helping me with a question I had. The material is challenging but I think that's out of her hands.
Dr. Kanchana is extremely caring and helped me whenever I reached out for help. She clearly tells you outright what you need to do to succeed in the course. Would definitely take her again.
Professor Chandrakanthan is humble, friendly and very approachable. She is always willing to answer questions and readily helps students out. One thing though she does not like when some dumdums talk during lectures and does not tolerate any disrespect. She sets you up for success and gives a good idea on what to expect for the exam.
at the beginning of the semester i really hated this class and was doing poorly but if you take advantage of dr chandrakanthans extra credit and show up to lectures, youll be more than fine. the class is hard but she is passionate about chemistry and is willing to help
Dr. Chandrakanthan helped me whenever I had questions on the material. Once I reached out to her for help the course became significantly easier with time. She is kind and very caring. Definitely recommend her for this course
Dr. Chandrakanthan was an amazing professor. She really cared about her students and was very helpful. She gave plenty of extra credits and concept checks. The lectures are really fast paced, but there is also a ton of material to go through so not really her fault.
Dr. Chandrakanthan made CHM 114 so much more easier than it could have been with anyon
The one professor who does what she says she will. She preps you up for success and the course becomes easier progressively. She is the best.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is extremely helpful. Once I went to her office hours and she stayed longer than her hours to help me out. She's friendly and responds fast to emails.
I wasn't a fan of Chandrakanthan at the start, but over time she's grown on me. I don't find that her lectures are very helpful as she reads a lot exactly from the slides and I learn better reading them on my own, but she gives the answers to concept checks during lecture. Material on tests is predictable as long as you study well. She's very nice!
Dr. Chandrakanthan wants the best for her students. The course goes by fast but that is just the nature of it. What many don't understand is that this is college, and spoon feeding doesn't work here. You must work hard to get a good grade. She brings in material from her expertise in environmental chemistry which made lectures interesting.
Professor Kanchana has a great personality and puts in so much effort to what she does. She has all the important information on the lecture slides and explains everything clearly. She replied fast whenever I had a question and was always very nice. I definitely recommend to take advantage of her office hours as she offers explanations in detail
She offers a ton of extra credit which really helped me practice on problems while getting the extra points. Her material is very concise when compared to the lengthy explanations in the textbook. Dr. Chandrakanthan is passionate about environmental chemistry and it shows through her lectures. I would definitely recommend her for this course
Prof. Chandrakanthan is very nice and is approachable. Once I attended her office hours and was surprised at the effort she takes to help a student understand a difficult concept. This is a fast course and it is clear that everything cannot be taught during the lecture time. If you put in work and show up to her office hours, you're good.
Dr. Kanchana is extremely knowledgeable and I've had the opportunity to discuss my research interests with her during her office hours. She does a great job during lectures, but an even terrific job during her office hours when she's not constrained by time. She's the best. TAKE HER
Dr.Chandrakanthan cares about her students as she is always available during office hours and replies quickly to emails. The course itself is challenging as it is a 4 credit science course yet she will help because she wants her students to succeed. She highlights important stuff during lecture and also provide lots of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Chandrakanthan offers lots of resources to succeed in this course. Her lectures are pretty interesting where she likes to bring in examples from her environmental chemistry background. It's a fast course and there's only so much one can do while being on schedule. She is also super sweet
She is very helpful if you actually reach out to her. I attended her office hours regularly and really helped me succeed in the course.
Her homework's are pretty difficult and took a long time to do. The lectures usually did not help much, so make sure to pre-study them to better understand the material. At times the exam reviews were not like the actual tests so I never felt prepared for them. She prepares you well for the final exam though. This class is mainly self taught.
Her homework assignments aren't easy but it helps you prepare for the exams. There's a lot to cover and the lecture pace cannot be blamed on her. She's so nice and helped me whenever I reached out to her. I would recommend her for CHM 114
Dr. Chandrakanthan replied fast whenever I had a question and was super helpful. You can tell she likes what she does and cares for her students
Expect to self teach. Poor lecture pacing that rushed through new/complex topics. She reads directly from slides and does minimal teaching. Exams centered on super specific concepts designed to trick you instead of testing key conceptual topics. Plenty of extra credit opportunities and resurrection final saved my grade
Dr. Chandrakanthan was extremely responsive whenever I had questions about the lecture material. She was willing to explain the concept to me again when I didn't understand it right away
She knows what she's doing and has a passion for chemistry. She stayed longer than her office hours to help me out whenever I struggled with a difficult concept. I would definitely recommend her for CHM 116
The homeworks are long and took up a lot of my time. But that also prepped me for my exams and helped me understand the concepts well. She's actually very nice if you reach out to her.
Exams are online through respondus and are medium difficulty. As long as you do review and know the homework well you should easily get an A on them, as examples are from the practice/homework. 5% extra credit and homework is free points. Grade is curved (88% is A-,91% is A, 96% A+). The lab component sucks, but that's the course not her.
Personally, attending the lectures was not helpful for learning. Be prepared to self-teach. She read off the lecture PowerPoints and rushed to finish them without thoroughly explaining the concepts. The homework will take much longer than the recommended time. She does give many extra credit opportunities to make up for bad scoring on the exams.
She pretty much spends her whole lectures rushing through material and just reading off the slides. I ended up teaching myself the material since I wasn't learning it in her lectures. The time it takes to complete homework isn't too bad if you understand the material, but getting one thing wrong will bring your homework grade down significantly.
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR CHM 116! While she is super sweet and willing to help in office hours, her lectures are confusing. My highest exam score our of the 3 units was a 66 and the final really saved my grade. The exam questions are worded very differently from practice exams and hw, other than the few questions she uses from the practice exams.
Not too hard of a class but needed outside help and tutoring to completely grasp concepts.
Overall, this is not a hard class to pass, you can practically fail an exam, and do below average on the other two exams and the final and still get an A. This class is all lecture, however, I did not find it very helpful, often found the Chad's Reviews more helpful as he walks you through the problems. This teacher does offer alot of EC on tests.
Overall she isn't a bad professor, but her teaching style is densely packed lecture slides and reading the information. Her pacing was also inconsistent. Sometimes she speeds through slides, other times she takes 30 min on a single problem. Recitation is super helpful for homework and exam review. She also gives lots of extra credit.
Dr. Kanchana was an amazing professor and really cared about the success of her students. She knows the material like the back of her hand and goes the extra mile to help a student out. I definitely would recommend her for CHM 116.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is the kindest professor I have had the pleasure of learning from at ASU. She is extremely helpful during office hours and does everything she can to help you succeed. If chemistry does not come easily to you, the subject matter is challenging, but her willingness to help makes all the difference. I highly recommend her class!!!
She had clear lectures and was very understandable. There was an average workload for a STEM course. She also gave a lot of extra credit
Ignore the bad reviews. She offers a LOT of ec and bumps you up a letter grade, (5% ec) and she made her tests really easy. They usually matched the practice exams and she gives answers in class a lot. Honestly, you can go without attending lectures- stay on top of homework and you'll do more than fine. This class is so doable, it's just a lotta hw
She did a great job explaining areas I was confused on during her office hours. She takes her job seriously and cares for her students
Absolutely love her, sweetest professor, really cares about student success. DSMs are extra credit and help study for tests. Go to lectures bc she gives answers to concept checks and occasionally test questions as well. Responds to emails well. Take good notes and do all the work and it's a guaranteed pass
love her so much i hate chemistry if chemistry has no haters im ded but i literally miss this class take her if u can and just stay on top of hw and ec and you'll do more than fine
I liked her a lot, the lectures were good, tests were hard but not crazy, and the homework was manageable. She was always available for offices hours to explain anything I was confused about. I would definitely recommend taking her if possible!
I loved her class, she was always so funny and she clearly loves what she teaches. She was sick basically the whole semester but showed up every class in a relatively good mood. Her class was very fast paced, but not unmanageable if you are up for the work. She offers a ton of extra credit opportunities and resources and is easily available.
I really dreaded chemistry before taking this class. But, Professor Chandrakanthan made the class more than bearable and enjoyable. She is super nice so don't hesitate to ask questions after class. Don't be afraid to go to office hours! She is always ready to help you and explains concepts very well. She's also just a very kind person to talk to!
While I have never enjoyed chemistry, Chandrakanthan has the class structured to help you. There are numerous extra credit opportunities and your lowest test grade is replaced by what you get on the final. You are also allowed a cheat sheet for each test and you should put practice exam problems on the cheat sheet because a few are on the exams.
Shes a great professor. Chemistry is not intuitive to me, and I struggled at the beginning of the semester with a low grade on the first exam. I went to her OH and she helped me so much with study strategies. She cares and wants to see you win if you put in the effort. Highly recommend her.
Amazing professor, highly recommend taking her!
Dr. Kanchana is caring and super nice. She is passionate about the topics she covers in class. Highly recommend her !
Prof Chandrakanthan cared a lot about her students. One time I was really confused on a buffer calculation and she explained it clearly during her office hours. She is genuinely a good person and a very passionate teacher
Prof Chandrakanthan's exams have proven to be very useful to me. She also has a lot of patience and is a very nice person
Easy to understand, very generous with extra credit, really cares about your success
Good professor. The class can be difficult at times, but there are plenty of resources and ways to get help if needed. She is very caring and puts in effort into all lectures.
Dr.Chandrakanthan is extremely caring and wants her students to succeed. Her exam reviews were really helpful and you should pay attention to her lectures as she gives a good idea on what to expect on exams. Definitely recommend her
She is clearly passionate about what she does. Definitely recommend her for CHM 113!
Professor Chandrakanthan is passionate about what she teaches and you should definitely attend her office hours because she is really willing to re explain difficult concepts in different ways.
TONS of extra credit. Slides are posted. Tons of practice modules on canvas. I didn't attend a single lecture class yet did well. 1 test gets dropped (redemption). She posts review videos for practice tests before exams. She gives back exams. Gives us 1 page for a cheatsheet every test. It's not possible to do bad in this class unless you are lazy.
GOAT Professor. You can't go wrong taking her. Highly recommend her.
Prof Chandrakanthan is one of the best professors I've ever had. She gives a BUNCH of extra credit opportunities (even on the exams!) and lots of resources for studying. She really cares about her students and their progress in the course/understanding of the material. I would recommend her 10000%!
what a kind kind women, super understanding and if you are ever confused she will be more than happy to answer questions, her concepts checks and hws prepare you so so well for the tests if you review them and she offers mcuh extra credit is seems illegal, loves to talk to students, i love her, the power points are so good
She is an absolutely amazing professor and one of the most caring professors I have ever had. She puts time and effort into everything she does. She offers plenty of opportunities for help and extra credit. She is very flexible with office hours and is a very caring individual. She is probably the best chemistry professor you could take.
No idea why anyone would rate her any less than 5 because she's that good. Willing to take time and explain concepts in detail during her office hours. Extremely caring. Highly recommend her
This professor is one of my favorite professors I've had. She truly cares about everyone passing. Gives you tons of extra credit and even gives you free exam questions if you attend lectures. Attendance was not mandatory, but i definitely recommend you attending. She is honestly such a sweet soul and I loved her class. Made chemistry easy for me.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is the most caring professor I have met at ASU. She helps you succeed and goes out of the way to make sure you have all the resources to do well in this class. Highly recommend her
The best professor ever! Lectures aren't mandatory, but trust, attend them! She truly has a gift for teaching. This is not an easy A course, but with her guidance, learning is so much fun and doesn't seem like a chore. Attend lecture reviews as well! Put in the effort to succeed and you will do great! She is AMAZING! I love her teaching and class!!
Overall easy class. I didn't put much effort in compared to my other classes and ended with an A-. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities and she allows a cheat sheet for every exam. The exams were all really easy and the final was just the 3 unit exams combined pretty much.
She is one of the best professors I have ever had. Chem can be super hard if you do not have a great professor. She made the concepts seem easy. She has a very structured way of teaching, and offers so much extra credit. Gives a ton of practice, do all the practice and you should do great on the tests. She is also so kind.
She has a different way of teaching and loves to interact with students during class time and office hours. Never belittles a student and always appreciates student responses to her questions.
Look at my comment! No need to scroll any further — just choose this professor without hesitation. If you can't pass her class, maybe chemistry isn't the right path for you.
Chemistry is hard no matter where you take it, but this prof is extremely kind and her classes have a LOT of extra credit. I would have NOT received a B if it weren't for all of her opportunities. However, chemistry isnt the type of class where you can study for it 1 week before an get an A, usually you have to start studying a month before a test.
Very passionate and explains everything very well. Best Chemistry I've taken in my college career
Great Professor. Encouraged questions, never made anyone feel dumb, explained and reexplained until we understood. She's also very patient. Always had good energy in class and was engaging during lectures.
Dr. Chandrakanthan completely changed the way I see chemistry. I used to find the subject intimidating because of my past struggles but after taking her course I've developed a genuine love for it. She consistently made herself available to support students. She treats us like individuals, not just faces in a lecture hall.
Dr. Kanchana is an amazing instructor. Her voice is very clear, lectures are very well paced, and overall I feel like I learned a lot about chemistry. She was also very enthusiastic during class.
Dr. Chandrakanthan was amazing. She was very enthusiastic in lecture, accommodating, easy to get in contact with, and overall genuinely wants her students to succeed. Personally, I found her exam review videos particularly helpful.
She's honestly a great professor. Explains everything super clearly and gives us everything we need to do well. If people aren't doing well, it's probably because they're skipping class or not putting in the effort. She makes the class actually enjoyable, and the way she breaks down the material makes it way easier to understand.
The professor made the assignments and the topics discussed in class very clear and I liked how she provided a lot of study materials for the exam.
She is an incredibly kind person and professor. Always very enthusiastic and I always felt like I could ask whatever questions I needed to.
Dr. Kanchana's lectures are lively, easy to follow and very clear. The pace was just right and that helped me stay engaged. I'm taking this professor for CHM116 course as well. I highly recommend her.
I've never liked chemistry and honestly, it's always felt like the most confusing subject ever. But somehow, I actually ended up enjoying this class, and that's 100% because of Dr. Chandrakanthan. Even when I was completely lost or stressed out, she was incredibly kind, patient, and always willing to help. She really met students where they were.
Even with such a math heavy chemistry class, Dr. Kanchana gave plenty of time for clearly going through practice answers and assisted whenever I needed clarification. I really appreciated the amount of extra credit that she gave out since I felt that it helped improved my grade.
Professor Chandrakanthan is so sweet and truly one of the best professors I have ever had at ASU. She truly has passion for chemistry and genuinely cares about her students. She would slow down and repeat anything to take the time to help a student understand.
She gave examples and went over many problems that students got stuck on. She also gave us many extra credit opportunities due to her concerns on some students not doing as well as others, very generous. Definitely one of my favorite professors throughout my freshman year.
Stop scrolling and just take her! One of the best professors Ive met so far at ASU.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is literally the best professor I have had the pleasure of learning from. She gives a ton of extra credit and is easily available for office hours. GOAT
She's what a professor should strive to be. Teaches well, gives you all the help and resources you need, doesn't interfere with you or force things on you, treats you as an adult. Doesn't take absence/distractions personally, doesn't discriminate help. Rewards attendance, extra credit to repair mistakes, makes learning what's important, not grades.
I took Dr. Chandrakanthan for CHM 113 and she was the best professor I've met at ASU. I'm taking her for CHM 116 and shes clearly passionate about what she teaches. I would recommend her to anyone
she truly cares about her students and had a positive attitude every lecture. the lectures themselves were easy to follow and she always made sure we had enough examples shown to us so we could fully understand the material.
She was very nice and always willing to help us outside of class as well. Her teaching allowed for an open and safe learning environment. Dr. Kanchana genuinely wants her students to succeed. She was extremely knowledgable on every topic we covered.
Really understanding and listens to what her students tell her. She is also really caring and clearly cares for those that are in her class.
Professor was dedicated to her students success, and had a lot of opportunity for extra credit and office hours. Not a difficult grader and very kind.
An amazing professor, genuinely in touch with her students. She provides amazing resources and truly guides you through chemistry.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is so kind and genuinely cares about her students. She loves learning names and is super accessible with 5 hours a week of office hours and through emails. She provides a ton of extra credit oppurtunities, too.
Kachana is a great professor who actually teaches concepts in class well. She also uses good practice problems during lecture that correspond nicely to exam questions. She also is very kind and funny. Would recommend
Would highly recommend. I haven't shown up to lectures since the first week of school but she's extremely accessible outside of class from what I've heard. Her tests are genuinely so free and she provides decent amount of extra credit opportunities. Would take her again if she taught other courses the same as she does this one.
I lit didn't go to lectures at all but she provides so many resources to do good on the exams. !she reuses questions from the practice exams on the real exam MEMORIZE THEM! great professor would highly recommend.
Attending every lecture helped me understand such a math heavy class. She gave plenty of time to work on problems during class and she's really good at pacing the material. Would definitely recommend this professor
Dr C is the sweetest soul. She puts so much effort into everything she does to make sure we learn the material well. Truly cares for her students. I love her teaching style and think overall I learned a lot in her class.
Very caring and chill professor. She has a lot of review materials, extra credit opportunities, and will even drop your lowest exam if your final is high enough. She teaches using lecture slides and performs some excellent chemistry demonstrations as well. Overall, the class is great, and Chandrakanthan is an excellent professor and person.
This is my second semester taking a class with this professor, I had her for CHM 113. She's genuinely very caring and remembers your name if you make an effort in the class. There are so many extra credit opportunities! Cheat sheet provided for every exam along with a formula sheet. Her lectures are very engaging and interesting.
Best professor/class you could possibly take for chemistry at ASU. So many extra credit opportunities that you will pass the class. Go to lecture and attend DS's if you're having trouble, plus she gives away a lot of free exam questions in class and on the exam reviews. Also the cheat sheet/notes page for exams saved me.
I LOVE her, she is so understanding and really actually wants her students to succeed. If you are confused you should really go to her office hours she is so kind and always willing and excited to help. Also she does so much extra credit and preparation for exams!!
Loved this professor, I took her for 114 and 116. She gives students a lot of extra credit opportunities and free points for exams. Amazing professor! She also teaches very well and helps students understand the concepts rather than just throwing it in our face and expecting us to know how to do it. TAKE HER!
Amazing professor PLEASE TAKE THIS CLASS!
she is the best chem professor i have ever had. her lecture slides were so well constructed and she gives so much extra credit and free questions on exams. she's so helpful with questions during lectures or office hours. she's really passionate about what she teaches and makes the atmosphere fun
Very friendly and smiley. Was enthusiastic about her course content and explained it well. Was willing to answer many questions. Very clear about time/due dates and structured such due dates to be very predictable and manageable. Only downer is that she seemed to cover topics slower than other professors, which factored into recitation work.
I love her so much I had her for Chem 116 and she was so enthusiastic about teaching the material and she always had such a great attitude. She was so willing to accommodate for her students and overall someone you pray you get as your professor. If you can, I would definitely try to take her!!
She was so amazing! Provided so much help and extra credit.
Kanchana is an amazing professor with engaging lectures. She doesn't require a ton of homework and offers an amazing amount of extra credit. She genuinely wants to see all her students succeed, and her course is super organized and planned out. Highly recommend.
Dr. Kanchana is such an amazing professor. Super kind and funny person who truly cares about your success. She is ultra available, responds super fast to emails, and her lectures are super engaging. She provides so much extra credit (40 points), and her exams are always straight forward (very similar to the practice exams). Take her for 113 or 116!
She is one of the best professors I've ever had! She gives out so much extra credit opportunities and you can tell she really cares for students and wants them to succeed. She is very clear with how the class runs and when things are due. Her office hour videos are also super helpful and accessible. I would definitely take her class if you can!
The best professor I've had at ASU. Gives so many free exam questions (come to lectures she gives them randomly and in her exam review videos), 41 total points of extra credit, and overall is so caring and understanding. I never knew how much I genuinely enjoyed chem until I took her. QUEEN.
She creates a safe and fun learning environment in lecture. Never belittles a student for not knowing the content. Makes learning what's most important. BEST of the BEST. Take her for CHM 116 if you can !
10/10 professor, respond to emails quickly, extra credit, always willing to help, always willing to re-explain. I would 100% recommend her. Definitely attend her discussion boards! And I would definitely take future classes with her if I can find one!
amazing professor! gives LOADS of extra credit, and is one of the best professors i've had. make sure to take any of her chem classes!
Professor Chandrakanthan is an amazing professor and does her best to set you up for success. The course is difficult, but if you pay attention in lectures and watch her review videos before tests, you are likely to be successful.
Gave so much extra credit. Often times the tests would have a question you just had to click to confirm you saw it to get credit. She posts her lectures and in her lectures there are questions that she copy and pastes into exams, so even going through the lectures a few times and reading them ensure getting a good grade.
SHE IS SO AWESOME!!!!! Coming from someone who only studied last day before all the exams I still ended up with an A+. All I had to do was basically go to her lectures to have a rough idea of what is going on and attend and get A+ in the lab and recitation. She gives a lot of extra credit(by that I mean like a lot).
Exams are similar to practice exams and she gives lotta extra credit!!!
professor will give free questions on the test and if you miss class(es) you can find a zoom recording for each and every chapter going through all the material covered in class TA's and professors are incredibly helpful and sweet, and dr chandrakanthan replies to emails quickly and prioritizes student engagement and understanding. 10/10!
Amazing professor! Offers many extra credit opportunities and is generous with exams. She provides free questions and lets you make cheat sheets for exams! Very reachable outside of class and makes lectures super engaging! Definitely recommend Dr. Kanchana!!
She does excellent chemistry demonstrations that correlate well with the lectures. Very enthusiastic and energetic. Encourages questions and never makes anyone feel stupid. Take her for any chemistry course if you can !
Dr. C is the definition of a great professor that wants you to succeed. She is the best in the classroom and outside. I would HAPPILY take here again, she made my chem class the best ever. All Teachers/Professors should be the same as her and learn from her, how she is caring and supportive for each person she teaches.Words cannot describe how good
She is a great professor. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about chemistry, which I found to make her lectures engaging and more understandable. The class is also very organized with clear deadlines and reminders. She also offers a lot of EC. The lectures are content heavy and the exams are quite difficult, but studying will be key to passing
Dr Kanchana is my favorite professor I've met at ASU so far. She does very cool demonstrations during lecture which helped me understand more. Her exam review videos are really helpful and I'd recommend her to anyone !
Clearly explains concepts in class and willing to re-explain them again if you don't understand. Go to her office hours they helped me so much
Genuinely loved having her as a professor, she makes the concepts make sense and ties things together really well. Quite a bit of extra credit, plus gives free exam questions if you go to her exam reviews. She really cares about her students and wants to make sure that you understand. Highly recommend taking her for chemistry!
Went to her office hours every week and the clarity and depth with which she explains concepts is amazing. Allows us to have a cheat sheet for the exam. Provided 2 free questions during lecture or exam review. Lectures are engaging and informative. Would definitely recommend her
Kanchana is kind, caring, and understanding. She knows that most people taking CHM114 don't need chemistry beyond this class. Her tests are fair and straightforward and her practice tests/reviews are helpful. She replies to emails quickly and is accessible outside of class. The workload for this class was light yet I still understood the content.
Dr. Chandrakanthan is an AMAZING professor. It is so obvious that she cares about students' success. She offers hundreds of extra credit points and drops the two lowest homework, concept checks, and exams (via final resurrection rule). She is so accessible by email/office hours and genuinely the sweetest woman ever. I wish she taught more classes.
Dr.C is the best professor I've had so far at ASU. The course itself is challenging however she explains everything in detail. She explains concept check problems during class so go to lecture. There are 3 unit exams and 1 final exam. Offers 41 points of extra credits. She also drops your lowest unit exam score if you score higher in the final
Dr. C was the best chemistry professor I've ever had. Her final exam consists of previous exam questions + practice exam questions that are the same or reworded. You also get cheat sheets for each exam, 2 on the final. The midterms are all online. Her experiments and lectures are easy! Lectures are also all accessible online through a powerpoint.
Unbelievably goated. She's knowledgeable and extremely effective, & made chemistry simple, fun and interesting. However, most notably, she's very caring. Plenty of extra credit opportunities, always willing and happy to answer question, and genuinely wants her students to succeed.
This prof. was amazing. Her lectures were usually interesting and she often did experiments to demonstrate what we were learning. Everything was very clearly laid out and she gives out a lot of extra credit. I basically only attended class maybe 10 times and passed with an A+ with only the homeworks and a little extra studying before the final.
