She is a good teacher, her notes and lectures are very clear. I feel well prepared for MTH 252. She is a hard grader though, be sure to present your solutions EXACTLY how she shows in class you will lose a lot of points. Id recommend her to others.
She is pretty hard on grading especially documentation, but I think that is good for us. Her teaching is always very clear and she is also very helpful, and you really can learn a great deal if you pay good attention.
I have a grasp on Calculus simply by doing what she expected of me. She brought cookies to every exam! Hint--do not be shy of cornering her and milking her for math info. It shows her your interest and helps break any ice.
Kandace scared me at first, but don't be intimidated! She is an exceptional teacher and makes expectations (homework, tests, material, grades) very clear. Hint: memorize the writing part! Highly recommended.
Excellent teacher. Pretty tough, but nothing compared to some of the other teachers. Her lectures are MUCH better than the book (I didn't open it once during my term w/ her).

didnt like the teacher. pretty tough. if i had to take math with her again, i would prob fail.
Tests are challenging and she grades very strictly. Pay attention and take good notes and follow documentation and writing guidelines and you should do well.
She will swallow you whole. Be prepared to work.
She put so much pressure on me, but I know she had to! I think there has to be more pressure because online classes require a lot of self discipline; and I think they are not as easy for the teacher to assess progress unless she pushes us to our limits.
hated this class. she was a horrible teacher. did not know how to teach what so ever. when you ask her a question she is unclear. i could not understand her language. you should not take her class. I TOOK AN ONLINE CLASS. if you could quickly learn out of the book by urself i recommend this class for you.
shes was an ok teacher in terms of explanation but a horrible teacher in terms of everything else. she is very nitpicky about straight lines and perfectly vertical equal signs. I was worried more about writing the solutions exactly the way she wanted me to instead of actually getting the solution right.
The worst!!! never take her!! everytime you ask her a quaestion she will tell you: "Ohh that's math 95 stuff" and just doesn't explain what you ask her. I was 10 times more concerned to write perfect straigh equal sings instead of getting the right answer, and she always brought those stupid cookies to the test! DO NOT RECOMEND!!
Would not recommend instructor
Took an online class. Kandice was really good about getting grades back to you quickly, as well as responding to questions. Her reviews were a lot harder than the actual test. She is pretty uptight about things like equal signs lining up and straight lines.
I really recommend you to take her class. She knows her stuff perfectly. Exams are basic, and the writing format is straight forward. Even though I was an international student and had English problem, I still could keep up with the class without having any suffer because she was willing to answer my questions. Appreciate those kindness. Thank you.
There is only one word to describe this teacher: horrible! I took an online class with her and will forever regret it. Her modules were worthless, her attitude snotty and her helpfulness non-existent. This is the first time I did not get an A in math, and with her in the teachers seat, it's no wonder. How she ever got a teaching job is beyond me.
I had her as an online prof, she seemed like a really big jerk.
Online student here. If you have trouble with math, steer clear of Kling. K.K. is less flexible than a linear function. She also has a very mean spirited attitude toward less than average students that comes across in her email correspondence and in her snotty little comments on papers. Elitist math nerd who takes out her aggression on students.
Worst Math teacher ever! Unclear, dropped your grade for reasons not related to math, high and mighty, condescending, refused to help or answer questions. Ask for one thing, changed her mind and graded on another. WORST TEACHER EVER DO NOT TAKE HER! I am a A student and I dropped the class so she wouldn't screw my GPA.
VERY tough but I learned A LOT. Go to class take notes and pay attention and you will do well. Also do your homework. One of the best math teachers EVER!
All I have to say is that this teacher is the WORST math teacher I have ever had!! she was RUDE and was not willing to help, she would comment me on things that were not related to math such as my grammer!!! I would never ever ever ever ever suggest kandice Kling as a teacher!
Kandace does not hold your hand. This can be frustrating, but it is ultimately better for comprehension. A great teacher for the highly motivated.
If you are looking for an easy A, then this is not the course for you. If you want to really learn algebra, then please take this instructor. Do your homework and ask lots of questions. She was very quick to respond to my emails and discussion posts. I am taking her for Mth 111c online this term. Make sure you follow her documentation guidelines!!!
It was a tough class, but not because of her. I found her feedback prompt, extremely helpful, and easy to understand. Even though it was an online class, there were numerous videos about how to do the problems, and her lecture notes were very detailed. I don't know that I've ever seen a professor put as much into teaching a class.
Terrible grading. Marks the problem wrong for not lining up equal signs even though got all problem correct. She doesn't give full feedback on problems on problems she marked completely wrong. Stay away!
This teacher is very indolent. At High School I enjoyed math (and got good grades). In college I tested into the 240+ Math Level and took MTH 243 (Statistics I) and then MTH 244 (Statistics II). I received a B in my Statistics II class and now I'm receiving an F in my MTH 111C class! She doesn't care if you get the right answers!
This instructor is one of the best. If you want a high school teacher who checks off your work, but doesn't evaluate it (translation: doesn't care if you learn), then don't take her classes. She shows you how to be logical and do math.
She is uneasy person deducts points if you don't put the answer way she wanted even if your answer is correct mathematically. Tests you things in the past that don't remember, and she doesn't cover in her lecture.
She was very rude and condescending. I also found her grading to be a pain. It really seemed like I spent the semester trying to please her instead of learning the material.
She cares more about your spelling then math! Online class was a joke there is no support, no discussions , only one try on the quiz?s, she has ?notes? that tell you to read the book. I have taken math 20-60 and 65 they were fine. I would not take this instructor.
She was supportive until I started struggling, then she drove my into the ground. Isn't that backwards?
Wouldn't recommend this teacher unless you can write perfect lines and line up equal signs exactly to her standard. Also, she marked me down for not saving my worksheets as an earlier word version. Hello we have all moved up in the techno field, she should too. When I challenged her grades, she said it was plainly stated and too bad for me. Sucks!!
There's a lot of negative reaction to this teacher, but compared to most math teachers of this level, shes pretty good. She does grade strictly, but is not unreasonable. I've had much worse math 250 and 251 teachers. Just pay attention and take notes.
Not a teacher, she's more like a security guard. Just sits and watches until you make a mistake, then writes nasty comments but won't help you figure it out. HELLO, IT'S YOUR JOB?!?!?! What are we paying $75 a credit for if not to have you explain the material?($75*~20students*5credits~$7500 a term. Where did our money go? It's an online class!)
For sure, she was a strict teacher. I wouldn't say she was bad though. She does a good job at teaching the subject and knows it very well. I don't think she ever made a mistake while teaching. As long as you take time on HW, line up equal signs, and take notes, you should be able to able to get an A in the class. She is fair if you actually try.
Calculus is a difficult subject in general, Kling makes it easy to understand by not using the textbook for homework problems. She's very picky on neatness and details like lining up equal signs and stating word problems correctly. She can be catty in the "you should know this" way. HW problems are due every week and coming to lab helps a lot,
Very impersonal & lacks compassion. She's condescending on her remarks on your work if you're wrong. There was very little discussion on the boards because her ?rules? about how you type & what you say. Don?t expect an A if you are an A student. She'll find things to mark you down. She really took the fun out of math. She was a big disappointment.
If there were more teachers like Kling Americans wouldn't be so stupid in math.
I have to agree with everyone else on her grading and her rude comments
Not only are her comments brutal they are sometimes inappropriate and just plain rude. So far she has taught on one level then tested on another. She grades harder for the online classes.
I took her for an online math class and it was impossible. Usually math is my easy A subject and she made it so tough. Steer clear of this one! One of her comments in an email before she returned everyone's homework was "don't take my comments personal, I tend to sound critical and condescending"..enough said.
I had Kandace Kling back in spring of 2008 (for MTH 111C). What everyone says is true. I took MTH 244 before this class and got a B. Then I took this lower level math class and got a C. She doesn't care if you get the right answer. You have to do it her way or it's the highway!
How this individual landed a teaching job is completely beyond all comprehension. I took her online class and it seems as though she even goes out of her way to explain these concepts. No clarity, in fact she is actually rude and borderline abusive as a response to any inquiry. I went from an A to an F in one term in math. Should not be teaching!!!
I took her online telecourse, where you can watch the lecture videos on youtube anytime that you want...as much as you want. I found this way of teaching worked really well for me. Her feedback was fine and helpful. Only complaint was that she did not show up personally to give exams. Overall I would recommend this telecourse.
I would NOT recommend her online course. The only instruction she gives is a very unclear worksheet on the material. She also doesn't show up for tests-what a cake job! Got an F with her, retook it and got an A.
I have been a straight A student in all of my classes until I met this abominable teacher. She is unhelpful, rude, has on multiple occasions not even known I had the correct answer and marked it incorrect. I would not reccomend this teacher as she makes math no fun and nearly impossible.
She can seem a bit unapproachable and brusque, which I think turns some students off. I found her lectures to be clear and organized. Note: she (and all other 251 teachers) is very strict about formatting and presentation. Math 251 teachers are told to be strict by the department in order to establish good habits for higher math courses.
This is a challenging class, but Kandace breaks it down pretty well. She is very organized and provides very helpful notes. She is a tough grader, but makes her expectations very clear. Kandace may be intimidating, but she is a good teacher. I will warn you though, you WILL have to study to pass this class.
Unorganized. Has an excuse for everything, yet expects perfection. Not interested in teaching math and is at PCC to collect a check. Seriously lacking in personable communication skills. Afflicted with Hubris. This was a memorable experience for all the wrong reasons. Avoid this person (and notice I don't say instructor).
All quizzes/worksheets had questions not in study materials. Wk2 had questions from wk7 material and this happened every week. With only 6 questions that makes a B, even with 100% on the others. Incorrect answers in midterm/final study materials. Most of the class dropped. I usually get A's in math and got a B. Very poor teacher.
This woman was not helpful in the least, very condescending in her comments and seemingly more concerned with how the work is formatted, rather than the manner in which the answer was found. No visual aids were offered. She should take some lessons from other instructors!
Terrible class. The teacher would deduct points from hw if I changed the colorful font to b&w. Her notes were awful, and her study guide made absolutely no sense. More concerned with how her webpage looked then teaching the class. Take it with someone else!!!
HORRIBLE. I have never had someone so rude and more concerned about how the work looks than how it's done. I have never had this low of a grade in math before. She is no help, don't bother asking questions because she won't answer them. She also puts questions on quizzes and tests that we haven't even gone over! Poor excuse for a "professor"
It's impossible to properly study for her tests and quizzes because there are always several questions that are more advanced than the study material. She routinely tests on problems that have not even been covered in the lectures or practice problems! Worst teacher I have ever had on any level.
Homework has to be turned in before the next class. If homework is turned in between the beginning of class up to 30 min after class starts it is late and you loose points. If you are late for a test you automatically get a 0. Nothing can be made up no matter what.
251 can be a very challenging class no matter the professor you have, but I recommend taking anyone else. Kandace does not seem to realize she's condescending, brusque, and not all that helpful. Her notes packets are clear enough but, she does not deviate from them and only teaches ONE way. She's very strict on formatting and a harsh grader.
Granted Kling is a tough teacher and she can seem coarse at times but she is perfect for anyone who wants to be a disciplined intillectuall. She provides more than enough practice material and her notes are crystal clear. I would not recommend her for someone who wants to have their hand held the whole way through class.
Kandace was unwilling to be helpful and went out of her way to give short and sharply edged replies to questions that left you not wanting to ask again. I found that her Tests and Quizzes did not relate even remotely to the practice homework leaving you unprepared. Her grading criteria on the work samples was outrageously high. Overall STAY AWAY
She might be a bit harsh on grading, but her lectures are understandable. Most importantly, though, is the fact that she bake cookies for every test and it tastes awesome!
Unreasonably harsh on grading. Any attempt at getting partial points is impossible. Her way of teaching as far as lectures are concerned is impeccable. However, she wants everything her way, which is extremely nit picky and almost obsessive with where everything is lined up and formatting, it's absurd. DO NOT take this class if you want to learn.
She was terrible. The tests had absolutely nothing to do with what we had been learning and studying all term. And she is way more concerned that you're writing the problem the way she wants it to look, rather than if you actually are doing the math correctly. She's insane. Do not take her if you wish to simply learn math.
I hated this teacher so much I dropped her class. She made absolutely no sense and will dock points off homework and test for any tiny mistake she can find. horrible experience. plz find another teacher!
I think Kandace is a great teacher. She was very clear, provided notes in class, and our graded homework came directly from the work we did in lab. She was helpful during our lab hour and provided a lot of practice exams to study. Yes she was tough on grading, but she gave everyone clear expectations in the syllabus on day one.
DO NOT TAKE. Kandace cares all about what your work looks like more than how you're understanding the math. She will not take any late work even if you were absent or sick. Her lectures are insightful but she comes off very rude. Her test are difficult and usually off topic with the material we are learning, save yourself the trouble.
This class for me was a refresher course due to being away from taking math classes in a long time. Lecture notes helps you prepare for the math test. She has a particular way writing the problems out. You have to do certain steps on your practical apps and test, the way she does them on her notes. Overall class is easy if you do homework and study
Yes she is a tough grader. HOWEVER, she is clear what she expects, and if you bring her your homework before class she will look over it and make sure your not losing dumb points. Provides you with helpful practice tests to do if you wish. Those who complain want an easy A. You WILL be ready for math 252 and you WILL understand the material.
She's the worst teacher I ever had the math has to be perfect if it's not you get an automatic f. Don't take her for any math class. You will fail the first test you take and she doesn't like conflic.
On test days she brings cookies, she's always willing to help, and she doesn't move on until she's sure you understand.
Kandace is a tough grader, and extremely strict when it comes to how you show your work. She's also very strict about homework turn in dates, and her feedback on work mistakes can be a bit blunt, making her come off as rude. I didn't mind any of this, but I can see how other people might. The workload was light, as textbook homework was optional.
I needed alot of help in this class because she zipped through the lectures like you already knew everything. I mean is it that hard to approach a struggling student and offer some support? Isn't that what we pay for?Her documentation rules are literally more important than if you understand the math! If I only had looked on here first. ARGH!
Avoid this teacher! You could get every single question right and still fail this class due to her extreme documentation guidelines. The last paper I submitted I got every single question right and only got a 73% because I didn't line up the equals signs and write the solutions as sentences. Obviously your grasp on the content isn't her priority.
I was unable to join until the fourth class and Kandace made sure I had all the material up until that point so that I wasn't behind. Her documentation guidelines are strict but become second nature if you appreciate organization. Homework not mandatory, but how do you expect to build skills if you don't practice? And cookies on test days! :D
Her teaching is confusing and not really clear with her lectures. The great things she would have for her students are lectures notes would be posted up in her website page after class and every end of class. She would give each members in our group a math paper to do and which ever of your group members paper looks good will be turned in.
I've always enjoyed math until this class. Kandace's teaching style is slow, and specific to one way of learning. She will give you a worksheet, do the problems fast and practically by herself, making it nearly impossible to keep up with conceptually. She makes many mistakes and often doesn't notice until the students say something.
VERY tight on documentation!; but nice makes time and is understanding drops one homework and if final is better will use that percent for one other test.
I can't say that there was much personality in her teaching, but she knows what's she's doing. I worked a 30-hour work week and struggled to complete the "ungraded" homework which was about 10% of the grade. If you're not gifted mathematically prepare to spend all of your free time on the homework, especially if you don't immediately understand it
If you aren't a social butterfly this class isn't for you. Cookies on test days if you want! She's syntax pickey & may raise her voice if she doesn't like your work. Fast-paced. You may not be able to catch her to ask questions. Knowlegable. Example heavy. Very little time in class to do homework. Late work isn't excepted. She can be unpredictable.
She is the most strict grader I have encountered. While it may help with future math syntax, the strictness with which she teaches and grades gives very finite room to learn if you don't learn the "conventional" way. Best of luck to those who don't follow strict guidelines easily.
She doesnt lecture, this was by far the hardest and worst class ever. My group and I taught ourselves the entire term, and the homework is to watch videos of a different professor teach you. Terrible system and sets you up for absolute failure. Unless you are good at math, find a math teacher that lectures.
If you're retaking a class that she's teaching like I was, and you have some knowledge from your first go-around, just pretend you're starting over at square one. Wrote on one my of my assignments that I wasn't allowed to use a specific rule (it was l'hopital's rule) as we hadn't learned it in that class yet.
If you want a professor who takes more breaks than everyone else in the class. Then take her class. She is not clear whatsoever in her instructions and syllabus. She made a relatively easy course, frustrating and hard to do.
I only missed one class and missed like a week of information. She gives out homework like she is the only teacher in the campus and she dosent let us sit where we want to forcing us to have to socialize.
For an instructor, she didn't really do any instructing. You go to class, show her that you did the homework & then work in groups to figure the classwork out among yourselves. She doesn't really teach. She uses another instructor's YouTube videos for the homework lessons & you lose a percentage of your grade every time you miss class.
This is a flipped class, so we watched videos outside of class. We worked in groups in class which helped to better understand the lessons taught in the videos. It's pretty easy to get an A if you do your work and show up. We had group tests before the midterm and final to help us prepare.
I loved this class because we learned real life stuff Like how to do taxes and loans and stuff. Kandace was great, cares a lot and she did a flipped classroom approach which I really liked, definitely recommend!
This is a flipped class. We watched videos outside of class and worked in groups in class while Kandace checked our progress and answered our questions. This was a great way for me to learn. There was an online homework system.
Kandace is a sweet professor who works hard to make sure that her students understand the materials. Unfortunately, her lectures were a bit dry. My larger warning, however, is the homework load. I had to do 200+ problems/week, and after a few, admittedly, I'd just look up the answers.
Calculus class was a lot of homework. It didn't work for me to have to spend so many hours on repetitive exercises. Lectures where very monotonous.
I liked this flipped class. I liked the group of students I worked with for group activities in class.
I took math 105, Maybe if I took a higher level math the professor might care more, but this teacher just didn't care at all. She used other teachers lectures, and other teachers homework. The homework takes hours, and it's just the exact same question 50 times, just worded differently. Teacher also gives 0's for things like incomplete sentences.
I really enjoy this class. Prof. Kling clearly cares about her student's passing and will help make sure you understand the material. If your homework isn't perfect, you can fix it and resubmit it for a better grade. The math we learn is real life stuff such as how to do your taxes. However, there is a lot of homework, which is a downside.
We watched videos to prep for class and worked in groups in class. I really liked working with my group and we go to take group tests before the midterm and final to help us prepare.
Lots of group activities which was fun.
I liked the group work.
Easy A - show up, work in groups, do your work
We worked in a packet in class. It was easy.
This was a good class. It felt like the grading was a bit inconsistent and that was frustrating. Lots of busy work, but it isn't hard.
She worked with me to get caught up so I could pass the class.
Class is very straight forward. No lectures and does not teach. I really enjoyed learning in groups or through videos and on my own. If you learn better through lectures then this class isnt for you. This class is very self paced and self disciplined. Its up to you to teach yourself. Dont fall behind and its an easy A.
Exams are the biggest grade even if you do good in everything else. Find teacher, self taught work but I wish we went over work a little more
Kandace is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. She cares about her students and responds quickly to email questions.
Kandace was a phenomenal instructor for MTH 60. She always made time to answer my questions. She is genuinely so kind and accommodating. You can tell that she really loves what she does and wants all of her students to succeed. Definitely take her if you want math to make sense!
Kandace is great and easily one of the best math instructors I've had. I've always had such bad math anxiety, but she explains things in a way where each individual is able to understand the material. She's extremely patient and really does want her students to succeed. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
Kandace is quick to respond to questions and is very happy to help! She clearly cares about her students' success and is a friendly, warm person.
Kandace was one of the best teachers I have ever had and very caring. I actually didn't mind going to class.
