Great professor, engages class in constant discussion. Takes everything straight from the book and puts it on lecture slides for tests. Has review questions for each chapter that he re-uses on tests. Truly cares about students and very knowledgeable about course material.
Great Professor! I would take another class from him if I get the chance. He continuously asks for feedback throughout the semester, and genuinely cares about the students. Tests are from the book, but not always eas. Very interesting man.
His class should be easy, but his tests are HARD. He has to curve them every time.
You MUST be in class when he calls roll, otherwise, you're ABSENT. Must read chapter before class because he calls on students for discussion. Has lots of stories.Tests are hard but he gives a curve at end. Nice prof but tests are a little hard.
Excellent professor. Exams are a problem....75 questions in 85 minutes. I would have preferred 40 questions because there is no time to check your work!
Good professor, interesting subject material. He explains everything well and thorough. Only problem, test are WAY TOO HARD. 75 questions in 85 minutes most of them being true or false. Test over trivial details from book. Doesn't matter if you go to class because test grade depends on how lucky you are.
BA 3371. Ramanathan's tests are Extremely difficult and they take way too long. If you don’t want to lower your GPA I wouldn’t take this class. The review for the final covers only 10-15% of what he actually ask in the test. DO NOT hesitate to ASK questions if you don't understand because he reviews the material VERY fast.
I had to record his class in my computer. Some questions are very tricky. Two quizzes 10%, 25% class participation, 30% Midterm, and 35% final. He lets you use your laptop for the quizzes and for the midterm and Final, so, load in your computer the whole textbook if you can. I you can avoid this class.
He is an interesting lecturer but does not curve. Be prepared to have your GPA lowered no matter how well you do.
His tests take more than 2.5 hours. He may be intimidating at times. Main problem in this class is that ppl dont ask questions and he reviews the material very fast. Download ALL the Files. He uses them in class. I would avoid this class. Excel is a tool used in business unfortunately this class is very neglected. Avoid if you can.
This professor is very knowledgeable about Excel. He has a do-it-yourself approach which serves well for trying to learn how to do things on Excel. However, he could guide the class a bit more in teaching us how to think about tackling problems. Some sort of structure and framework would have been nice.
WORST CLASS EVER. Do not take it. All cell phone use will be 5% off final grade. If he calls on you, and you don't have your hw to present to the class then that's another 3% off final grade. A lot of people dropped his class on the first day.
Great and funny professor, but don't text in class! Quizzes aren't bad and the tests can be a little tricky. Most difficulty I had was solver. We rarely used the textbook (only ch 3 and 4)...
Really good prof. Take this class only if you can attend all classes, can pay attention in class and can answer questions when suddenly asked, can stay away from mobile for class duration. Exams can be a little tricky, but you will not face too much difficulty if you do HWs on your own. Highly recommended for students from business majors.
He has strict class guidelines that he sets the first day, if you don't follow you get % deducted from your grade. He makes you solve problems by yourself and then solves them. Highly recommend him if you can be disciplined. Lots of HW (exercises from the book). You only need to read a couple chapters from the book. Exam is mostly problem based.
Worst Professor ever!!!!!!!! His lecture is not helpful, he tells lots of bs. The tests are hard, not relevant to his class. The test questions are random selected, they are not testing on what you know, they are testing how much luck you got.
Worst class taken.
found it pretty easy. just studied 4 hrs before any of his test. was overall 100+ till last quiz -historical or non course related questions were asked. why do u wanna know when some technique started. disappointing TA - your answer is right but you wont get point for it- was TA reply. plus no analytics. onecan study everything in 1 day if u ask me
His spreadsheet course is one of the most useful courses I took at UTD. He's funny, organized, and always there to help. The only complaint I have is that the difficulty level of this course varies in semesters. Summer semester is the easiest one. And I took it in Fall.
Tests are not too hard but there are a lot to memorize. Pop quiz could be really hard, be sure to read the material he gives you or you will regret.
Involves students in lectures
He really knows the material and wants you to know it too. Spreadsheet modeling is essential for jobs these days and he is very aware of that. He will call you out if you start to fall asleep in class, but he does it to make sure everyone gets it before he moves on. I just think he really cares. Don't be intimidated by his strict policies.
I do not recommend, he is very tough grader.
He takes attendence at the begginning of the class, no late policy no mercy. Pop quizes without a notice for a total of 18 points! I guess the pop-quiz should be revised, especially with a tough materials and confusing questions. The 75% of the students are professional, they have their jobs too. He wont lose if he declare dates
Participation matter...
He is a great professor! If you want to learn about excel, this is the class to take. If he sees that you are trying, then he will help you. His quizzes were straightforward. If you attended class and followed along, then there was no way that you would make below an A. I took a 4hr summer class, this professor made it enjoyable. The time flew by.
Overall light and easy class. Helpful for professional career. He keeps the class engaged. No phones allowed. Participation is required. Very straightforward, if you pay attention, you'll do great. His tests are known to have mistakes and are weird, but he gives the points back if proven wrong. Funny guy. He's not super responsive to emails though.
Participation matters. A lot. 2% off your grade for each class missed. 5% off if you are caught online or on your phone. That said there is a LOT of opportunity for extra credit. Explains things very thoroughly and has a good sense of humor, but he does cold call a lot. Great class as a good grasp on Excel is vital in any career these days.
Prof. Ramanathan is a great professor. I liked his teaching methodology and his lectures. I have really learned something very handy excel skills in this class. No Cellphone or Internet use allowed. He deducts 5% of your final grade for each instance caught. The only thing I hated is you have to purchase his book, he does not provide his notes.
Strict professor who will take off points if he sees you on phone or laptop. Lectures are very confusing and not clear. He doesn't care whether you do well in the class, not friendly at all. When I asked him a question, he answered in a rude manner and made me look dumb in front of the class. Exams are tough and questions are worded bad.
This class has under 75 grade is an F. Does cold calls alot and does not realize that people come from job and are somtimes not prepared. Calls on you if you can't answer the question makes yo feel bad. 2% off your final grade if you miss the class and 5% off final grade if you are caught in the class using computer or your phone.
Terrible experience taking this course. Lectures & power point are exactly the same. NO HELP! Quizzes, get ready to read 30 or more pages of Harvard cases per week. Paper based on a 400 pages long book. No rubric given. Just see your final paper grade on eLearning. Exams, totally unfair. Does not curve. Adds questions that are not covered.
Prof. Kannan is a great professor when it comes to teaching and explaining the concepts. He is willing to explain materials if you are in doubt. The final exam is trickier and the questions make sure you thoroughly understand the material
I enjoyed taking class with professor ramanathan and love his teaching style. He explains materials clearly and is always patient.
This man gave a 75 question comprehensive test to do in 50 minutes and most of what was on the test was nothing ever discussed in class. To be fair he had to curve the grade a whole letter.
First of all, I have never seen him passionate but very authorative. there are lots of works Quiz and HW. Exam is very hard and no curve. I do not recommend those who are not very familiar with Excel. Otherwise, you will have to make lots of efforts to get an A.
Very strict! Must be in class before he takes role or you get points off, and 5% of your grade if you are caught on your phone in class or are distracted. You may be called in class to answer questions/demonstrate solutions. Also good to have a good overview of Excel before taking this class. It's much harder if you have no experience with Excel.
Best Lectures EVER. He makes sure you come out of the class knowing the material. not much of homework. Write everything he says in the class will be on the test. Listen and be attentive- he teaches well. I am taking him again for another class, because I know after his class I will know the material well. 3 exams - last one is the hardest.
Mandates use of very expensive textbook that he himself writes. Changes a couple of things every edition. Makes you buy latest edition. New edition every semester.
Definitely avoid him! He cannot give you timely feedback/results of your exam and homework. The result of exam will come 2 weeks after you took the exams. For the exam,it's nightmare, he gave you random selected questions that is not testing how much knowledge you have acquired but how much luck you got so that you didn't get the TRICKY question.
It was a really good course and Professor Ramanathan was awesome. I learned a lot in this course. But you need to study really good and practice a lot for exams. Timing is very important.
He forces you to buy his custom book - its full of errors and expensive. One chapter doesn't even tell you the answers to the problems. Penalties of 2%-5% off your whole grade if you're late or use your phone. Exams are not standardized so you might get the hard questions. He is a confusing lecturer - most students didn't understand him.
He takes attendance every class like we're in elementary school; he deducts points for looking at your phone during class; he does not explain subjects well; plus he won't provide solutions to homework or tests. How do you study correctly if you're studying the wrong answers that you generate? His grading scale is horrible! Dodge him at all costs!!
His Test are straightforward. He is funny and keeps the class entertain. Put away phones, computers and be on time. And you wont have a problem passing his class.
He knows his lectures
He's an amazing lecturer! Lectures are engaging and funny. If you take a lot of notes and pay attention in the lecture, you'll do fine in the exams. There's no mandatory coursebook, the class notes and slides are enough! There'll be a few quizzes based on HBR articles, but they're generally pretty straightforward. Overall excellent professor!
take care when you choose the course
2 points off: late for 2 minutes; use hand-written name card. Need to purchase the 50 bucks, full of errors-book, still he makes you buy the latest version. No-sense lectures, totally wasting time. Quiz is designed to let you lose points with wired questions and wording. He is arrogant, thinks he knows everything, confusing explanations. Easy A.
He is his bookseller!! It's not worth!
He's awesome for OPRE6364 Lean Six Sigma. Class is super engaging, clear explaining. He does take attendance and but going to class is super nice and helpful. Easy test with little homework.
Make sure you read the text book and pay attention in class. His in person lectures are much useful than his online class. Online class basically you do all your work by yourself. Personally I didn't like his online section. He is very tough in grading.
If you can abide by the rulebook, he is one of the best professors you would find. He is very particular about attendance, late arrivals, usage of cellphones etc. If you can avoid all that, you would love his classes. Great teaching! The best part is the homeworks. If you practice them, exam would be a cake walk!
I learned a lot from Professor Ramanathan. You can take his online class to avoid loosing points. Because it's not mandatory for online class. The quizzes and tests are heavy, need to spend some time to memory. It's not a easy A class but very helpful.
This is not a blow off class! Reading the book and practicing the problems are key. Don't blow off studying, you will regret it. If you need help, ask! The professor will always help his students.
Don't be late, don't touch your phone, listen to him very carefully, study the textbook, practice and you will learn so much and get an easy A. He is an amazing person (looks scary at first, but such a nice human).
Class material is not hard. What makes this course a challenge is the ineptitude and the lack of consideration this professor has. His instructions for assignments are vague and brushes off student concerns even during this pandemic. He is monotonous and inconsiderate and left a rancid taste in my mouth. Its not worth taking this class with him.
I took 2 classes with Prof Ramanathan, and both classes only comprised of 2 graded items: the midterm and the final exam. If you screw up on either exam, you've basically ruined your chances of a good grade in the class. Textbooks are written by the professor himself, and if you do not read them thoroughly you will not pass his exams.
He is worst professor at UTD. Like seriously this guy is not considerate and full of stupidity. He wrote a book full full of inaccuracies and then points out your mistakes. Why would you select a professor with inflated ego and doesn't care about student's issues? If you ever think about enroll in his class then slap yourself. Worse teacher ever.
I liked him personally. He was friendly and really tried to make a pretty boring class interesting. He wanted to make the content approachable and understandable. I felt like studying for his exams was straightforward and many test questions came straight from lecture notes I had taken. It's a lot of information, but you'll do well if you study.
Doesn't allow backtracking for quizzes, as well as them being 20 questions in 17 minutes, 15 questions in 13 minutes, or 10 questions in 9 minutes. Who does that?
The professor has a strange rule of allocating marks far away from usual mathematics that we practice every day! Only teaches from his books that has tons of mistakes. Is not ready for feedback!
He is a rigorous person; the exam questions are basically from the book. If you do not read the textbook carefully, you can not pass it. If you are late or don't bring your name card, you will be deducted 2% from your final score.
As all Orient professors the focus is memorize instead understand. A computer has much more capacity to memorize. Its really hard to ocidental person fit is this model of learning. It seems that the majority of orient professors has vary low grades here.
He gives a paper worth 15% and grades based on grammar, so if you misspell youre not gonna do well which is unfair to students who dont speak English well. Did not like the course, wouldnt take him
The book he requires you to read is something he wrote himself which is just plain silly. Tough grader and inconsiderate. If you have technical difficulties, forget about him being understanding even though he forced students to utilize honorlock which causes many glitches. Doesn't communicate with online students and very detatched. Dont recommend
Doesn't teach properly. Chutiya hai bc. Study material is pathetic and teaching is worst. Laude ka professor hai. Completely inconsiderate about students. If you value your money, do not take his class. If you really want to learn, learn online. There are much better teacher's on YouTube.
One of the worst professors I have taken at UTD save yourself some time/money for a better professor you can learn something from. Papers are tough. Doesnt curve at all. Its absolute grading which will bring down your overall Gpa. Teaching is mediocre. Just reads through slides. I had to learn all by myself. Horrible Professor.
Do not take his class for your good. Pls, avoid him. Awful at explaining concepts in class. He should probably be retired for the sake of students. No student needs a professor like him who is unconcerned & ignorant. Just reading a textbook in class doesn't make anyone a professor. Vague explanation & inefficient way of teaching the course.
I sometimes wonder how some people become professor when they can't even teach simplest of things. All this professor wants to show is how tough of a grader he is. He does not care about your learning. Learning feels like a punishment in his class. Avoid him like Covid! (Actually, you might survive covid but you won't survive his boring lectures.)
WORST INSTRUCTOR I EVER HAD! WOUDN'T RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE.
THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING THIS CLASS UNDER THIS PROF: here are some cons A minute late to class. -1 one mark deducted Tough papers Carry name placards to Class without fail No mobile phones, No talking Expects students to know Everything without Teaching properly. Rush through topics at Cyclone speed No curving. Absolute Grading
Be mindful, future students. I took this class because I thought I would learn Something. But this Prof & his teaching Sucks Big time. He's Evil & the meanest Professor. The worst Academic Decision I ever made in my life was to take this course under this Prof. A total waste of $5k.
Absolute waste class. No skills learned. He only focused on completing the syllabus at Cyclone speed rather than imbibing skills in students.
WORST PROFESSOR. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
highly knowledgeable in his area of studies, very approachable. lectures are discussion based (not as intimidating as it seems). ensures that he does his best in making sure that students understand the information we learn in class as well as having flexible office hours to make time for his students when they need some extra learning
Do you catch yourself remembering the past and good ol times? Well, if that's the case, take this class because you'll be treated like a kindergartener from Day 1! No name tag? Minus 1 point off total grade. Late to class? -1 point. Breathe out of wrong nostril? -1point. Get ready to memorize 400+ pages of a nonsense, rough-draft Walmart"textbook".
Easy class and clear course objective, but very tough grading criteria. 1 point off your total grade for arriving late, no name tag. Did not consider my reason for being late. Only single attempts for homework.
Has an weird grading criteria which makes you lose grades unnecessarily
Very tough grader. A complete waste of $5k. Don't take his course at any cost.
It's only a week in, but this is super specific. In the lecture videos, you can hear his mouth smacking and the spit. It's like the mic is super close to his mouth, and I know it's a niche annoyance, but you can hear it every few seconds, and it honestly bothers me so much. Also, his quizzes are disproportionately timed, and no backtrack.
He is strict but he explains the material well and is very funny. The class consists of 3 exams that he prepares you for pretty well and he deducts 1 pt off your final grade for being late, on your phone, no name tag, or missing class. If you take good notes and study as you go, the course is pretty easy and stress free.
You don't learn anything new. The lectures are sometimes slow & a lot of time is spent waiting for others to solve questions. The class is fine but the professor is unreasonably strict about coming on time to class, attendance and deadlines. It seems like there is no room for discussion even if you have a valid reason and good performance in class.
I typically only heard bad things about this professor before I enrolled but I had a positive experience. He is really strict with his rules and will tease you heavily if you break them, but he runs his course the way he wants to and he runs it well. The lectures are critical to passing as he posts almost no material to e-learning, but they're good
Go to class, don't be late, bring your name tag, and don't go on your phone. Kannan will call on every student, every class, so be prepared, or just say “idk” lol. Grade is based on 3 exams w 5% participation credit. Exams are easy enough. Kannan can be harsh and outright rude at times, but he means well. He's pretty caring, funny, & clever.
Professor Ramanathan is clearly knowledgeable in the subject matter he teaches and the course content isn't that difficult. HOWEVER, I have never seen a professor care more about attendance. His method of attendance grading and participation credit is extreme, unfair, and promotes discouragement rather than motivation. Don't expect understanding.
While attendance is incredibly strict, I honestly was so much more engaged with his class than any other professors. He is quite funny, really cares for his students success with corporate speakers and extra credit professional events, and generously gives bonus points in class. Also, at a whopping 4'11, you really won't find him scary for long.
Attendance and participation are required, but Professor Ramanathan is super caring, funny, and supportive once you actually get to know him. He offers extra credit, networking events, and is always willing to help. Definitely one of the most supportive professors I've had.
Prof K. is a tough guy and he sticks by his rules but he is a kind soul. Dont have any electronics out or be late, very strict about penalizing. If you answer in class, you get hella bonus points too. He helps you outside of class and connect you with his professional network, his connections are insane. Hard class, stats based but its fulfilling.
He is very supportive and means well. Strict rules but lowkey it feels worth it at the end and I actually studied and learned stuff in this class. There is NO HOMEWORK, just go to class with thorough understanding of the material and score the bonus points. Its like a whopping 1% every point.
He is very funny, dark humor sometimes. Strict but it is much needed bc the class is a tough one. If u stay on top of ur material and pay VERY VERY close attention, its an A for sure. Everything on the exams will be taught in class. Especially the examples he gives out in class, take lots of notes. 10/10 genuine human, just comes off as strict.
Not chill but supportive. Pay attention, take notes, answer in class
NO HW, do well on the 3 tests. Extra credit and lots of bonus points in class.
95% of your grade is on tests that are all on the testing center. He doesn't even give out any reviews and also no cheatsheet is allowed. Basically he just wants people to memorize and only those who are good at memorizing might do well. He is testing memorization and not understanding. Almost every class allows a cheatsheet but he won't
Online class with little to zero professor interaction. Class is structured in an easily understandable manner; however, be prepared to read from the textbook. Professor sells his own textbook to his students (haha) and left a fake review of his own textbook on Amazon. All in all- not the worst class or professor.
This guy should stop teaching undergrad. He shows no respect, and just reads off the powerpoints which are available to us. He does not like technology use in his class. But it gets worse. Attendance is mandatory, and he gives bonus points for voluntarily speaking up, but won't if he doesn't like your answer. He's tenured.
