Kantwon is a really good professor. He really tries to make MATLAB enjoyable, and I find he succeeds, and it helps me understand what's going on. He really seems to care about how we do, and he's very approachable. While you don't need to go to lecture, you should. It helps, and I usually enjoy it.
Kantwon is an amazing lecturer. He really cares about both the course and the students, and his lectures are always entertaining. He is extremely approachable, and even tells his students to follow him on Snapchat and Instagram. He is a really chill guy that will prepare you well for tests and make you love MATLAB!
beautiful lecturer
best cs lecturer at Georgia tech
One of the few professors I've had who's class won't put me too sleep. Super entertaining, and a FANTASTIC lecturer. I love you Can'tJuan. I want you to have my babiez
Kantwon is the coolest professor at GT. He's incredibly approachable and absolutely hilarious. Sometimes he has surprises or interesting demonstrations for lectures and he posts all lecture notes and has very useful videos on his website. He will make you love the class and matlab.
Kantwon is the best CS lecturer at GT. He actually cares about the class and his students.
While I can't comment on the entirety of Kantown's course, his instruction of the topic of recursion was thoroughly impressive. An interactive class example, coding and tracing all helped to deliver this complex topic in a straightforward, informative and engaging way. Would recommend his lecture to anyone looking to learn recursion.
Kantwon is the absolute coolest lecturer imaginable. He keeps lectures interesting and has no problem communicating with his students both in and outside the classroom. Kantwon teaches the material well, and if you show up to lecture and at least one recitation per week, the class will be perfectly doable and enjoyable. Take Kantwon!
Absolute best! I love Kantwon!! He helped me with a TA interview and he cares so much about how much we learn!! He is so relatable and enjoyable to interact with. My only regret is that I won't be able to take his class again! A lot of people say 1371 is a real piece of work, but Kantwon makes at least some of it totally fun and enjoyable!
He's the best
I came into this class scared of coding, but this was the best first programming experience ever. I never expected to have this much fun learning how to code. Everything was explained in a simple and memorable way, from getting pied to explain masking to a game to explain recursion. I would be so happy if all of my professors were like Kantwon!
Kantwon is amazing! His in class examples made MATLAB not only understandable but enjoyable. He was such a chill guy in and out of class, and he wants to get to know students - he really invests, and the results showed because his section consistently received the highest scores in the course. TAKE KANTWON IF YOU LOVE YOURSELF.
Amazing lecturer. Really makes the concepts of CS a lot easier to understand. With that said do not skip all of the recitations and make sure you understand all of the homework. Kantwon really is the best professor for this class, try to get him regardless of times.
Very dedicated to his students and wants them to succeed. Explains concepts very well, and in a way that a first-time coder understands. If you want to have a good CS1371 experience, take Kantwon!
Truly the best in his class, take this guy if you don't want to be screwed by Matlab.
Incredible teacher. I looked forward to class every day. He really cares about every student and if you need help he is readily accessible.
wonderful lecturer, if you get a spot in his class don't let it go
Kantwon was the best professor I've had at Tech thus far. Maybe it was his young age that made him easy to approach and talk to, but he truly knew how to connect with the students. MATLAB is still hard to learn, but go to his class everyday and ACTIVELY listen, and you'll never need to open the textbook. Do the homework, and you'll do fine on tests
He is absolutely amazing and hilarious! Check him out on kantwon. com! Also you can watch some of his intro videos on that website to learn some Matlab from him before you even start the course!
The god of CS. I've never coded in my life and he made me consider a minor in CS.
Kantwon is extremely good at what he does. His lectures are very highly attended and his sections always get better grades. He makes class extremely exciting in several ways (including providing very creative examples). He's also just an overall good person and you can talk to him about anything.
I love Kantwon. I never thought I would be getting an A in CS 1371 but with Kantwon's and the TA's help, I am on track in securing an A. His lectures are always packed especially for it being so late in the day (this says something about him). Some of the homeworks were challenging but help desk made it manageable for me. Highly recommend Kantwon.
you know Kantwon is a good prof. when his rating on RMP is higher than the average GPA at tech
He is the absolute best professor at Georgia Tech. Hands down, the most interesting, funny, inspirational, and relatable professor at the entire Institute. Take him if you want MATLAB to make you smile (and if you want to actually learn it!)
He is one of THE best professors at Tech. He is caring and hilarious and makes his lectures fun to listen to. He doesn't waste time in his lectures and makes sure the students learn everything they need to know to succeed in the class!
Really really great teacher. His lectures were always clear and all code that was written in class was easily accessible. If you have to take CS 1371, take Kantwon, you will learn a lot and you might not even hate MATLAB at the end of the class. He is always available for help and really cares how his students perform in the class.
A god among men.
amazing at explaining new concepts, does lots of examples so you know what to expect on tests. super caring and always willing to help. if you befriend him hide all your embarrassing pictures/posts otherwise he will expose you in class :)
Kantwon is the reason why I actually like MATLAB
Kantwon keeps the class entertained and uses fun strategies to teach the class. For example, he let me pie him in the face to demonstrate a concept. He is the reason why I have decided to pursue a CS minor. Try to take his lecture, but be prepared because his class fills up very quick.
Amazing lecturer. Never had an interest in CS (hated it, in fact), but Kantwon made it much more accessible and easy to understand. Made me consider a CS minor (but the homework in this class made me not make that decision). Overall, the class is tough, but Kantwon makes it pretty easy with his amazing, hilarious, and clear lectures.
100% recommend if you were able to get the class. Do not skip any of the lectures, because it is a GREAT way to start your day off. Kantwon is funny, smart, and the kind of teacher you want for this course. His test averages are the highest among all sections, and he will give you plenty of hints about the material on the midterms!
Kantwon is an incredible teacher. As someone who had 0 experience with coding he made the material very understandable. He's hilarious and caring, and really seems to consider student feedback. Would definitely recommend.
Couldn't have asked for a better professor for 1371. Kantwon just has a way with teaching CS that makes easy and bearable. He is EXTREMELY accessible outside of class and cares deeply for every one of his students. He is a really funny guy and always keeps lectures interesting. Not worth skipping his lectures!!
Kantwon's love for MATLAB shines in each of his lectures. He genuinely cares about not only what he teaches, but also all of the students. He made an effort to include everyone in a lecture attended by 150+ students, and was entertaining yet clear about what he was teaching.
Deserves all the hype he gets. Cares about his students and MATLAB and tries to make the course as bearable as he can. Homeworks will still be time-consuming, though. If you show up to class, set aside a day of the weekend for the homeworks, and study the provided practice tests, you'll do well. If you don't get him, attend his lectures anyway.
Coming from a person who is totally not a morning person, his lectures are totally worth waking up early for. There is a lot of homework for the class though as with any CS1371 class, and it takes FOREVER to do. There's also a huge curve a sorts at the end of the semester.
Believe the hype. Kantwon is genuinely the best. His passion for teaching radiates from every lecture, which you should always attend. The homework in 1371 is obnoxious/time-consuming, but Kantwon does his absolute best to help make it reasonable. His lectures are some of the best I've ever seen: he's incredibly innovative in the ways he teaches.
Kantwon Rogers may well be the best educator I have ever had. I've had good professors for sure, but I feel like the students who aren't allowed the chance to be in his lectures really are missing something. Relatable, funny, and genuine person. He wants you to learn CS, and he wants you to have fun doing it. Couldn't ask for a better professor.
Hands down, the best instructor for introductory CS at Georgia Tech. His lectures often feature Kahoot quizzes; he makes a lot of jokes; he has a solid background in education research, and is passionate about teaching. He is very easily reachable, and even has dinner with students in dining halls sometimes. 5/5!
Kantwon is amazing. CS 1371 can be a difficult class, but his lectures are extremely helpful for understanding the material. He goes over very useful examples, and uses very helpful analogies to help you understand. Pay attention in class and do the HW in good faith and you will be fine. He really cares about all his students, so get to know him!
cool guy, class is pretty hard. Matlab is the worst. But Kantwon really loves teaching and he loves his students. He makes the sucky class a little less sucky.
Definitely a gem in the entire GATech community. He understands how to communicate CS to millennials. He's so good that the giant lecture hall is packed EVERY class. He also offers scholarships to the students in his section which is HIGHLY EXCEPTIONAL and shows how much he cares about us. The content is hard but he made it so easy to understand!
Kantwon is absolutely amazing and genuinely cares about teaching. He thinks of REALLY creative ways to teach all of his students and makes lecture really enjoyable. This was my first class 3/5 days of the school week and I would always be so pumped to go to this class as soon as I woke up! You'll be blessed if you get to have him for CS 1371.
The fact that he has 40+ reviews and a perfect 5.0 should let you know how he is. He is good. Actually amazing. Actually phenomenal. Actually there is no word that'll give him justice for how good he does his job. I don't think you'll have a professor like him after you take his class. He taught me something I never thought id be able to do.
AMAZING MAN WOW
Great teacher, being in his class is a rare case of both informational and fun
Very difficult class but he knows what he is doing, very on-point and makes class fun. Hws are very hard but TAs are super accessible and tests are pretty predictable if you go to every lecture. HE IS AMAZING, EVEN IF YOU NEVER HAVE TO TAKE THIS CLASS, STILL MEET HIM ONCE IN YOUR LIFE.
Literally the best teacher at Tech. Don't even think twice. Take his class. It will change you. Go to every lecture. His class will change your perception of everything. Words don't do justice for how amazing he is. You will not only understand coding but learn to love MATLAB.
Best teacher I've had in my life. Go to lecture because Kantwon makes difficult concepts seem straightforward. If you pay attention in lecture you won't even need to show up to recitation.
Did not enjoy the class
I hate computer science. I'm only taking it because it's required for engineers. Kantwon makes me want to add a CS minor. He is fun, lovable, and genuinely cares about his students. He wants everyone to learn how to Matlab and he teaches it so that everyone can understand, even when coding is completely foreign to them. Amazing professor and person
Kanton is by far my favorite teacher ever. He is genuinely interested in students' success, explains topics very well and is an amazing human being. This is the most time intensive class I have taken at Tech but he has made it to be by far the most enjoyable.
A Legend
the best teacher i've ever had
Great Professor.
CS 1371 was my first experience with coding and Kantwon truly left a positive impression of programing. He is a funny lecturer and nows how effectively teach the course material. I'm so grateful for having him as my MATLAB lecturer and he is a true gem of Georgia Tech.
He's a good teacher. This class is not nearly as difficult as people make it out to be. Just go to lecture, start the hws early, and do the hw by yourself so you understand it better.
Kantwon is a great lecturer, and so long as you do the homeworks and GO TO LECTURE. You'll be fine.
The goat of Georgia Tech, best CS 1371 lecturer ever. He is so creative and supportive of students and does an exceptional job at introducing and breaking down MATLAB concepts.
Kantwon, the man of the hour, is exceptional at what he does. Teaches with style and charisma. One that teaches unlike any other. Lectures were enjoyable and incredibly helpful. Brace yourself,CS 1371 requires countless hours each weekend to complete coding sets.
Kantwon is a great professor who is great at explaining confusing topics. This class was very tough (it just never clicked for me) and the homework takes a very long time, but Kantwon is definitely the professor to take this class with. You can tell he's very passionate about what he does and he makes topics understandable and adds in humor.
This guy is one of the best professors on campus. Take him, and if you can't go to his lectures anyway, you won't regret it.
I wasn't even in his section but I went to his lectures and have 0 regrets. He's truly the best professor I've had at tech (and I didn't take this class as a freshman). It's a hard class mostly because of the homework, but the homework is really well done so if you feel good about it you are pretty set for the exams.
Kantwon is great. While the class is considered to be one of the harder intro CS courses, if you practice the material it will come to you eventually. Don't wait until the last minute to do homework, because you never know when there will be that one problem that takes you forever to do. Go to recitation. The TA's are probably the best TAs at Tech.
I attended Kantwon's lecture though I wasn't in his section. He is the best prof if you have no previous coding experience. Explains topics really well, focuses on the why behind each topic rather than just solutions to examples. This semester they stopped allowing students from other sections into his lecture and scan Buzzcards (due to fire code).
Definitely the best teacher I've had in my entire life. Not only is he a wonderful teacher, he's also a great person, and you can tell that he genuinely cares about you. He's inspired me to pick up a minor in CS, even though I had no programming experience before college. Make your schedule around this man's class because trust me, it's worth it.
Kantwon is an amazing professor. For someone with little coding experience, this class was very challenging. Homework is very time consuming, but help desk is great. Work with others toward understanding. I did very poorly on the tests, but with final replacement, I was able to pull it up to a B. This is a very common experience. Don't lose hope.
Kantwon has to be one of the coolest people at tech. Not only is he like, super successful, but he also is a great teacher. I didn't go to many lectures, due to horrible sleep habits but the ones I did show up to were great. He takes time to get to know his students and make class interesting. If you take this class, GET KANTWON!!!!
Fabulous
Kantwon is amazing which u should already know from the tons of positive reviews. He's easy to relate to, makes class super engaging, and I literally switched my major to CS after his class. Make sure u start hw early and study for the final which can completely grade-replace tests and is much easier in terms of time-management: just know ur stuff.
Kantwon is the highest caliber of professor at a university. Do whatever you can to have him for 1371, your life will be so much more enjoyable.
While the class material is hard, Kantwon always stays on topic and covers a lot of material while making it interesting and fun.
Ok so the homeworks were insane, but Kantwon was the best. Interesting lectures with the exact info you need. Tests are easy if you understand the basics of the hw. Go to the help desk for hw help.
Great engagement with students, very open to conversation, extremely helpful, effective lecturer, etc.
Kantwon is a real gem. He's charismatic, brilliant, understanding, and a fantastic lecturer. Even if you come into his class with no CS experience, you will have a fairly simple time learning the material. If for some reason you don't, he is very accessible outside of class. One of the best professors you will have at this school.
Kantwon is very down-to-earth and cares for everyone. He's generally good at explaining difficult CS concepts, and uses a lot of hands-on demonstrations. The homework and tests are hard and you will have to think and work hard to do well. There are many resources available outside lecture too (office hours, recitation, helpdesk) so you can succeed.
Passionate, friendly, and brilliant lecturer. However, his tests are hard and weekly homework is very hard and takes a very long time. You have to put in a lot of work, but the final is not bad at all.
Kantwon is extremely engaging and works hard to make lectures enjoyable. He is very nice and genuinely cares about his students. The tests are fairly difficult and the home work gets very time consuming. I would definitely take him again.
GOAT!
Everything youve heard is true. An absolute must have professor
There is a reason why every one recommends Kantwon (now Dr. Kantwon). The class itself is easy if you have basic programming knowledge.
A definite must-have professor at tech. He is wonderful and explains everything in a fun and engaging way.
Take him if you want to do well on exams, his averages are consistently higher. Pretty entertaining lectures but can sometimes waste a lot of time on silly examples that I found unhelpful. Not a fan personally but odds are you'll love him.
Definitely recommend! His lectures are entertaining and he is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. You learn a lot in his class, so the homework and tests arent super difficult. I genuinely enjoyed going to his class.
This man is the GOAT CS professor. His lectures were always really good and always tried to get as much participation as possible. Homework sometimes took a long time but never felt impossible. Everyone's already said it, you can't go wrong with Kantwon.
Kantwon is a must have teacher. I truly looked forward to going to his lectures. I came in with absolutely no programming experience and ended the class with an A without taking the final. You can tell he really cares about his students and engages with them in class. Be careful about following him on instagram, you may be roasted in lecture.
Solid CS 1371 choice. Kantwon tries to get to know his students and is very accessible through snapchat, ig, or office hours. Lectures are very entertaining and engaging for a very large class. Grading scheme is very good, with HW and 4 exams and a final that can replace all four of those exams. Homework is very very time consuming though beware.
Other reviews highlight the many great aspects of Kantwon, but my personal favorite is that you really get to build a connection with him as he is accessible and approachable. Whether it be through IG, snapchat, or whatever else, you get to connect with him. Also if you follow him, you might have a change to get called out in class XD
Other professors are good, but Kantwon is great. His lectures are funny and engaging, and made me excited to go to class. Additionally, he makes thorough notes and examples that can be referenced for the homework. CS 1371 has a lot of homework (don't put it off for the last day after like week 3), but Kantwon is a great teacher for the class.
Kantwon is great. Great lectures, great person, great everything. He makes coding very simple and provides fun anecdotes to make everything seem real. I would die for this man.
There's a reason he's one of the most respected and highest-rated professors at Tech. Other than being *very* good at teaching, he's an incredible human being. He awards scholarships to students, makes personal connections, and is all around someone I want to be friends with. Do anything you can to be in Kantwon's lecture. You won't regret it.
Words cannot even describe how amazing Kantwon is. 10/10 professor and 10/10 human being. He helped me through a really difficult time in my life, and Im so thankful for that. I would give this man more than a 5 if I could. Hes a must have professor. I learned a lot of CS from him, but I learned even more about being a better person.
Kantwon is such a true gem human and he genuinely cares about his students!! He sends out post-test surveys to just check in with his students and he is so caring. He also makes lectures so interactive even online. Take him if you can he is such a great and caring teacher!!
The homework assignments were really difficult, and the exams required a lot of studying, but Kantwon is an amazing professor/teacher. He is talented at breaking down complex concepts, and he really helped me move far in my ability to code. He's really amazing! I highly recommend taking his class.
Kantwon has been one of the best professors I've had this semester. His lectures are hilarious and super entertaining. I had some previous code experience, but most things were new to me. However, learning everything from scratch was easy (and actually fun!). My advice: start homework early and go to recitation! Your TAs can be your best friends!
You're only graded on 3 midterms that have a weight and are quite hard. But if you put the time in to the weekly homework (6-8 hours) you can get an easy 100% (or even more with extra credit homework) to bring your grade up. Lecture wise Kantwon is super fun and makes the hour go by real fast and makes the subject super fun.
Kantwon is a great lecturer and explains stuff clearly and simply with alot of in-class examples. The homework and midterms occasionally get really rough though and require quite a bit of time. Still, It's all doable and you have also good amount of extra credit to pad your grade. He's very entertaining and made morning lecture worth waking up for.
You don't need to attend class.
Great Great professor who really cares about his students. BUT If you haven't had any coding exp beware, this class will hurt.
Super fun and chill. 100% recommend if your taking CS 1371 PLEASE take Kantwon's class he is actually the GOAT.
Kantwon is incredible beyond words. Do everything in your power to take CS 1371 with him. Classes are recorded, homework takes on average 5-10 hrs per week, exams are reasonable, and content is interesting. I had a different professor, but I attended Kantwon's lectures -- which a lot of people do.
This guy is awesome. He's able to explain everything with extreme detail while also making sure that everyone is still hooked onto his lectures. It's just great watching him. Even if you don't get him, don't sweat it. His lectures are recorded so everyone can watch them, and I highly recommend doing that. Also, make sure to do the homework weekly!
What everyone else said. One of my most time consuming classes and therefore a stressful one. Stay on top of your work. I learned a great deal about MATLAB and am extremely grateful for that.
Matlab is a time consuming course, but Kantwon makes it fun and easy. If you do the homework, you'll be fine. I highly recommend taking his class.
Best 1371 professor you can get, extremely personable and makes lectures enjoyable (as much as Matlab can be).
CS1371 is a wacky class and TA's do most everything beside lectures. That said, GET KANTWON. His teaching methods make the material much more digestible, and he uses real-life metaphors to explain class curricula, and he engages the students frequently even in such large classes. GET KANTWON
He is super engaging and makes coding more interesting with the examples he uses such as instagram posts from actual students (with consent ofc). His office hours are helpful and hes easy to talk to. The class only negative is the amount of time the coding hw requires, like 6-8 hours a week, but its doable and most of the TAs can help you.
great professor, interesting class.
Pretty solid professor. Homework is not overwhelming, and he prepares you well for exams. However, you get the sense that this guy believes his opinions are superior to everyone else's, and his sense of humor doesn't really land and often comes in the form of roasting his students.
He explains concepts in a way that you can easily understand and is very passionate. Just please, for the love of god, do not get behind in this class because it is very hard to catch up.
Lectures are very insightful. My friends in other sections would watch his lecture because it better explained the concepts. Tests and homeworks were fair. Homeworks were the same across all sections of CS 1371 The autograder and the test graders were a bit finicky, make sure to check their grading after you get the grade back.
As everyone else has said, he is a fantastic lecturer. He breaks down topics and codes at a pace you can follow. The tests are somewhat difficult but we were able to receive 5 points on our final grade of extra credit which relieved stress of the tests. You can just go to class and listen because he posts all his notes for you to study later.
Great teacher, best average within all classes.
best prof for CS 1371. clear lectures with many example problems. funny demonstrations when content gets boring. def take him if you can!
Kantwon makes learning MATLAB real fun. His teaching style helps you grasp the harder concepts through the funny examples he tends to do. Note that in this class, practice is rewarded so make sure to do lots of homework problems because the tests will likely mirror many of these problems.
He's really good.
Great lecturer and easy class as long as you do all the extra credit available on the HW. Lectures are recorded and they're available online along with his notes. The HW changed grading scales a LOT and it was time-consuming and frustrating but if you do all of it + XC, you can be exempted from the final (if you're happy with your grade).
By far the best lecturer for CS 1371. To note, they seem to be changing how they format their homeworks every semester, so good luck with that.
Best prof I have had so far. Makes incredible boring topics super interesting. Make sure to do all of the homework for extra credit and basically memorize the practice tests and you should have no problem in the class, no matter your prof. Definitely take Kantwon if you can, he is amazing
Lectures were easy to comprehend and engaging, and work and exams were balanced and fair. Kantwon Offered one on one help when I was struggling and went out of his way to ensure I understood the material. Beyond compassionate, and a breath of fresh in terms of professors. I owe him more than I can say.
great lectures, prepare to spend hours on the hw because its pretty similar to the tests
The way he teaches does not reflect the homework or the tests. The study guides are not that helpful & he really wants to fit in with the young people in his lectures but, he tries too hard. He gets annoyed when people dont participate &he's bothered when you ask for help. He is a grad student & says all the time that he doesnt get paid to teach.
Kantwon is an incredibly good teacher, he offers extra credit (for up to half a letter grade) if you do extra homework problems which only prepares you more for the tests. The 3 midterms are extremely fair and pretty simply compared to the material covered in class, but it still does a good job of evaluating what you know. Great professor!
Best instructor I have had in my 3 semesters of college. Amazing lectures, he is hilarious, explains concepts well, get classroom involved, etc... All lectures are also recorded and posted online, as well as his notes. Tests were easy, and up to half a letter grade of extra credit in the entire class just for doing 2 extra HW problems. 10/10
I did not even have kantwon, but I watched his lectures. They are really good and helpful for first-time coders. He sometimes does not upload his lectures onto his spreadsheet, so be aware of that. He also does random seat generators to ask questions which is kinda scary if you do not know the question, but he is so nice and caring. < 3
Committed to all CS 1371 students, and will answer questions well and help anyone even if he is not your teacher. He is to the point and has a few fun ways to remember things. I am a Kantwon stan as a teacher and as a person, genuinely the only professor I have liked at Gatech.
I took Kantwon my first semester here at tech, and he is unbelievably amazing. I was never really good at CS, but he teaches you in such a way that it becomes easy. Make sure you do all the homework, and review the past exams. It is incredibly easy to end with an A as long as you put forth the effort. You can't go wrong in picking Kantwon.
He is amazing and for my first CS class he made it all make sense. pick him if u can
The goat. If you are in 1371, just watch his lectures regardless of who your prof is.
I can't recommend Kantwon enough!! If you have to take this class and you don't get him, his online resources are great! A genuinely caring professor who is great at taking difficult concepts and making them easier to understand.
Kantwon is the best 1371 prof: maybe over-rated, sure, but you will not find anyone at Tech who can come close to his level. He's pretty funny yay. Also lectures fast, so highly recommend using the fill-in-the-blank notes uploaded in Canvas. The curving with HW is extremely generous. This material isn't easy, but it's worth it with Kantwon.
Kantwon is the best matlab prof but he is still massively overrated because he's likable and relatable to students. Lectures are mostly usually good. Examples in class are easy compared to tests and hw. You will need the bonus level 3s and recitation so do those! If you don't get him, come to his lecture, they dont check and there are empty seats.
FANTASTIC professor. My favorite class I have ever taken, and reminded me of why I enjoy CS so much. Awesome teaching style and just an amazing person in general.
I love this man. I was coughing and dying in class and he stopped class to ask if I'm ok.
He is a phenomenal professor, I showed up every day excited to learn from him. The class is very difficult if you lack coding experience however. It is hard to study for exams as the types of questions asked varies drastically. When completing the homework make sure you 100% understand every question and time yourself as tests are similar to HW.
I would let him adopt me
Yeah u see my grade. but it's not because of Kantwon! He was a great professor, I just didn't do my hw,because I genuinely could not understand it. We had so much hw & the lectures dont even cover all the content on the hw, you have to attend a separate lecture just to understand (which i couldnt attend). So, he was great, its just so hard :(
Hands down, best non-professor of a professor I've ever had in my life. Even though I didn't fare well in my grade, that was due to personal issues & not doing well on homework/exams. He teaches thoroughly and cares that his students do well. Pay attention in class, do ALL your homework, and go for recitation. You're sure to do well.
Dude if you don't get Kantwon, I feel your pain. This man is amazing in every way, and makes the class a break from the storm of GT. 110% would take another class from him if I could. :,). ily Kantwon.
I had another professor, but someone told me to go to Kantwon's lectures and that was probably the best decision I made. He introduced CS concepts in a funny, interactive, and informative way. If you have no prior coding experience, there is a steep learning curve, but if you have some degree of coding experience the class shouldn't be too bad.
He has the BEST lectures for CS1371. Makes lectures super fun and actual engaging. As long as you go to lectures or watch his lectures, you'll be set.
I love you kantwon you weren't even my actual professor but you carried
He is an amazing professor, he has such a good rating for a reason. I personally am not a computer science person, like at all. But Kantwon made the class fairly easy to understand and was SUPER helpful throughout the semester. I didnt well in the first exam but he helped me in office hours and I learned alot. Super grateful for this professor
kantwon is the loml. i came into this class with 0 coding experience and struggled a ton (Ds on first 2 exams), but i went to help desk and also attended every recitation which was very helpful. i ended up doing well on the 3rd midterm and final exam, and kantwon saw my progress/effort and bumped my grade up which i couldn't be more grateful for
He's the best. I started this course with 0 knowledge of CS in another section and I struggled so much at first and then I started attending his lectures with a friend halfway through, which played a big part in my grade and midterm 3 and finals were so much better, and I ended up with a final grade I never thought I could get. Totally recommend.
Kantwon is probably one of the best lecturers, his lectures were awesome and funny. I never had an interest for programming but he taught in such a way where if I ever need Matlab, it's like muscle memory. I just start coding without even realizing that I'm goated. Do the homework and the bonus and you will do great and you will be goated too.
Goat. That's all
Thanks so much Kantwon. I feel sorry for future students that the best CS 1371 teacher is leaving.
This is just a rant after my bad exp. Kantwon is employs REALLY harsh grading for the hw's, but the test code has TONS of errors. First exam is kinda easy, so the second exam hits you like a ton of bricks n no one's prepared for it + no curve. Unforgiving abt whatever u have going on outside class. lectures r good but he's not compassionate AT ALL.
One of the best teachers I've had at GT, always finds a way to make lectures accessible and entertaining, available for help if needed, even gave us his personal calendar to schedule meetings with him if needed
He was an AMAZING professor! Definitely the best choice for CS.
Kinda overhyped; a good professor but not sure if he's worth getting a bad class time for. The class was definitely harder than I expected. I've had multiple coding class experiences, but not letting us run our code or giving us adequate testers (or explaining said testers) screwed up grades. Homework way wayyyy harder than tests.
This is just my experience, but I did well on the first exam. I studied for the second and still got like a 65 (which was higher than most). I was worried about getting a C after this, so I went to talk to him. He verbatim told me if I have this much stress over CS, I do not need to be a surgeon. No compassion and totally out of his place.
Kantwon is a great lecturer who makes the material engaging. While the homework is challenging, using resources like Unstuck AI can really help with prep. Definitely worth taking, just be ready to put in the work.
He is an amazing teacher who cares about his students, hopefully he'll come back eventually as this might be his last semester.
I wasn't registered in his section, but I went because I wasn't understanding anything. I'm so glad I went to his section because he's so good at explaining the concepts and giving clear examples of how to code them. His lectures are actually engaging and he tries to make them as entertaining as possible.
Kantwon always made every lecture interesting, and lectures were always something I looked forward to. Homeworks were fairly straightforward with extra credit opportunities. Tests only covered material in the lectures and the difficulty was very fair.
annoying class, didnt think it would be this hard given all the positive ratings he has, Hes a great lecturer though and sad to see that this is his last sem teaching.
very engaging lectures full of funny demonstrations and a lot of student participation. everything on the homework assignments was covered in lecture. the later tests do get more difficult but there are good review opportunities as well as extra credit available. sad to see him go, truly an amazing professor
Kantwon was the best professor I had this semester! He made learning really engaging, even though some of his sections were at ungodly hours of the morning. His tests were fair and the homework really helped you understand how to utilize the material taught in class.
CS1371 is the hardest class I have ever taken. Kantwon is an exceptional instructor. He is very personable and well-spoken. He is the most inspirational person I have ever come across. However, this doesn't change how hard CS1371 is (at least for me). Kantwon's lecture notes and supplementary materials really sets you up for success.
Kantwon has great energy, which is a need for an early class. He is able to explain a lot of the material extremely well, however if this is your first time coding this class can still be difficult. You will do homework through matlab but the exams are through canvas (this messed me up personally). He tends to not care for personal matters.
He's a great lecturer and a really fun guy. Tests are not too bad if you do homework and practice. Absolutely would recommend
Best CS1371 teacher there this! Take him! He provides excellent notes on how to learn MATLAB, and he teaches in a memorable and funny way. He engages students by doing examples that relate to us and also by doing in-person activities. He goes over complex topics in a feasible manner and provides many many practice examples.
