The best teacher at RVC hands down...
The best Professor At RVC, Very fun to have in class. Interesting stories. Funney!!! Take him!!!
Professor Prashar is the best professor at RVC, not only does he have a passion for students and teaching, but he is also one of the most caring professors you will ever meet. If you need to take a social science course select a course he is teaching.
Hard to understand because of his accent. Also unfair testing and he always has to be right. Notes hardly went with the tests and his review sucks! Would not recommend
Prashar knows what he's talking about, just not how to explain it. He tells way to many life stories, and wastes a lot of time. His tests are multiple choice but are tough. He doesn't review that well for tests. Trys to sell bratwurst tickets a lot.
Really hard, but good guy. Also, heavy accent.
This guy is too funny. He is a very tough grader, though. The course content was superb, and he really wants his students to learn
Very strong accent. Wastes a lot of time with his stories and sidetracks ALOT! Tough grader and his tests are no joke. Has favorites, and it's hard to understand him. Wouldn't recommend.
Very good teacher with a good heart. Can be a tough grader, but he offers many extra credit oppurtunities. He does have a heavy accent but you get used to it. I enjoy his stories as well. If you are interested in the classes he teaches I recommend him
Yes, his accent takes a bit to get through. His life stories do relate to the class material and you will earn your grade - it's not easy to get an A (I didn't). I learned plenty from Mr. Prashar and that's the point.
He is a really sweet guy. If you show up to class and put a little effort in on your side, he will give you a good grade. The couple papers I did were easy. The tests are multiple choice...some questions were kind of random though. Stickler for attendence
cannot hear him half of the time.
HORRIBLE professor. Unwilling to help. He talks about your private, out-of-class matters with his class and degrades you! Female students, try another teacher...gender issues! Allows specific students to slack, average students have no chance!
Definitely a classy guy. He's a tough grader, but he's perfectly fair. In fact, given all the possible make-up and extra credit opportunities, there's no reason why anyone can't at least score a 'B'.
He is a very nice man. I would recomend him. His accent does take a little while to get used to but once you do you'll do great. He takes his class very seriously. He seems genuinly concerned about others. He is one of my favorite teachers.
Excellent professor with proficient knowledge of society and many personal experiences from his Indian backgorund.Tests are straight to the point and he thoroughly explains everything that needs to be known for the tests so that we will learn and use it.
doesn't go by the book, gets angry when you say you don't understand. this is only the 2nd week and I am having a hard time as well as others in my class. the tests are not bad but he doesn't clearly explain it. if you can study well on your own take this
He is terrible. To me, he's very unorganized. I wouldn't recommend taking his class.
he is a very kind and amiable professor. he might be intimidating to others but as time goes on he will make you feel welcome and at home in his class. he is straightforward at times but that's just his way of encouraging his students to be dedicated.
A very nice man, extremely interesting, but I had a hard time understanding his accent, which made note taking very difficult. I won't take future classes from him, only because of his accent, which is unfortunate for me.
i was really exicted about this class and he ruined all that he sucks!
He's terrible.

I took Prashar on the recommendation of a friend. He's lost a few steps, and isn't the prof he once was. He'll try to clarify, without much success, but if you talk and goof off and don't listen in class, you're already screwed before you start. 3 words - Open. The. Book. It's there for a reason.
He is very hard to understand with his accent and the quiet voice. He jumps all over when trying to go over the chapters. YOU have to read the book to learn the material on your own, because he only reads a sheet to you instead of going over the material. He has many things going on outside of class
Very sweet and kind man. You can tell he really cares for his students. Very goofy in class and makes everyone laugh. If you listen and take notes you'll do great!
zzzz BORING!!!!
Professor Prashar is one of the nicest teachers I have ever met. He has helped me so much this semester, I cant believe the people that are talking bad about him, it breaks my heart. Prashar cares about his students, and makes it easy to do well in his class. I would recommend him any day.
Avoid this teacher, his notes, when he gives them are a mess, his study guide is like reading ancient greek and his tests cover stuff you dont even learn from the book or in class. His accent is a bit difficult to adapt to. He does give a little extra credit, but make sure to attend every single class or you grade will drop drasticly.
He is a very nice person. But his teaching methods are horrible. He starts freaking out if you can't understand something, his curiousity is out of control because he'll stop the class and start randomly talking about subjects that have nothing to do with the lecture. He's hard to understand and his tests are damn near impossible.
He wasn't clear at all and really didn't seem to be interested in teaching at all
Past his prime. All he does is rant and rave about things that arn't even on the test. He's a wonderful man but a poor teacher.
it's hard to understand him at first but after a while you learn how to actually understand what he's trying to tell you. he may be hard to understand but he cracks me up so he deserves some credit.
Really funny dude..very smart too.. Some find him hard to understand though.
Nice Man great teacher...
Awesome teacher by far. I look foreward to his class because he keeps his lectures interesting. He is also a great storyteller. His tests are easy if you study for them...
he tells good stories....when you can understand him...but if you ask him a question he sometime trys to make you fell dumb...its an okay class
Great guy. You can tell he really enjoys teaching his class. A slight accent, but its alright. He does tell some good stories too. Nice sense of humor..."Does anyone smoke the pot??? Three of you...thats a good example of deviant behavior."
This guy is really funny to watch, I'd say his top phrases include "You see my point?", and "No, nonono", "me and my silly stories"... All these in an indian accent give this professor a unique sense. He gives out a lot of test answers when he reviews though. He adds a very distinct variety to RVC
I didn't really learn much in the class. He is a nice guy but I can't really say anything positive about his teaching skills. He goes off on little tangents that have nothing to do with what we were discussing in class. He also makes students feel stupid when they ask questions, which was my main problem with him.
really nice, but boring
I found him extremely intelligent and interesting. I think he will give you everything in a lecture that you need. He demands respect, and in college classes, more respect needs to be given to the professors! He has a very open attitude and found that he never discriminated. I also think he is a great person.
He is the kindest, calmest person I have ever met. I find him to be a very funny person, calling drugs "goodies" and smacking himself on the head when he cant remember something. A very sweet man, sometimes hard to hear, though, as he is rather soft-spoken. I learned a lot in his class and it really opened up new possibilities for my future.
HE's a really nice guy. He's a little hard to understand at first. Although if he asks a question to the class, don't answer unless you're positive. He once asked us to guess the current population of the US, I was off by 2 million and he shook his head saying, "NONONONO!". He laughed at my answer, then said teh correct answer. HE's a little weird.
Very unclear in teaching, continually going off on tangents and missing all of the in between information that was on the tests. The good news is that he is a fair paper grader.
He is a very nice profesor, but he sometimes made me feel like a idiot when I would ask questions in class. He always gave a study guide for his tests, which helped a lot! Sit up front in class because he can be a little difficult to understand and hear.
Hard to understand, talks quiet. Grade based on 4 tests, that are hard, one field trip report and one research paper. The tests are hard unless you pay attention in class and do the wksts he gives.
Jumps around alot, your never really sure what he is talking about. Try not to answer a question wrong, because he will belittle you. He finds it funny to put surprises on the test that he has not gone over, and it is not in the book. Also, you need to study everything even if he said dont worry about it.
He is very hard to understand and pretty quiet. He does know his stuff and hands out the notes and goes over them in class. There arent a lot ot tests maybe one quiz. His tests are not that hard I am so bad at tests and I never failed one.: ) Id take him again.
Dr Prashar is an excellent teach. He combines his multitude of life experience in his field with textbk knowledge. His accent takes a little getting used to, but once you're over it you'll see he's hilarious! The textbk is a must. If you read the ch and show up to class you'll get a good grade. I absolutely loved this class and I hate reading!:
Mr. Prashar can be a very nice person IF you happen to agree with him and his very liberal political views. Otherwise he'll have it in for you from the get go.
I loved the class. It was very interesting. Mr. Prashar was hilarious and a great teacher.
I can't believe Prashar got any negative reviews. I thought he was one of the best professors at RVC. Sit in the front because he is a little hard to understand. Very funny guy who seems to really care about his students. He can be a bit unclear, but it is worth it just to listen to what he has to say.
I definitely had to try in this class, but Prashar is a great teacher. He has been a lot of places and seen a lot of things, and I think that is very admirable. He totally knows his stuff. He keeps most classes pretty interesting... not my favorite all the time, but definitely good overall.
If you take lots of notes and read the chapters, you'll do fine in the class. It's sometimes hard to understand what he's saying but you get used to it. He also tells funny stories when he notices people starting to lose interest. All in all, a pretty good teacher. I'd take one of his classes again.
My favorite professor. He is very challenging though. He definitely makes you think. If you're looking for an easy "A" this is not the class for you. You must read the text and take notes in class. I enjoyed his quirky personality and sense of humor. He tells interesting stories about his life back in India. Would recommend for hard working students
Probably the best teacher at Rock Valley and my favorite so far. He has a passion for Sociology and for teaching it. He is very kind and genuinely cares for people and his students. He is quirky and hilarious. We laughed every class.
Mr. Prashar is an awesome teacher! He always tries his best to make sure that his students understand everything clearly. He's really funny too! He tells a lot of stories that keep the class interesting. His tests tend to be difficult, but if you write down all the notes he gives you and study them well, there is no way you could fail.
Great teacher! Really funny! He explains things very well, and makes sure you understand before he moves on. Tells a lot of stories and they're really funny sometimes. Very fun teacher. Would highly recommend.
the worst class i have taken since attending RVC. mandatory to go on field or visit different worship halls here in town, a waste of time. couldn't understand him and think that the test were just plain hard. no matter how much i studied got d's on test. don't take him!!!!!!!!!!!
Prashar was the WORST teacher I have ever had. Cannot stand a single word he says, taunts his students, and stuck on his ways. Do NOT take Prashar.
Very confused professor. All of his test material comes straight out of the book. Nothing from lectures on tests. He basically just tells stories. Overall makes a nice person but bad professor
Only an idiot would think he is a difficult teacher. i have taken him twice and done well in the class because he gives you the answers to the study guides, lets you re do papers if you ASK, and is really funny and sweet. Just read the book and listen to the lecture. its a class of course you have to put in a little work. but not hard. love him
well, his class didn't interest me at all. It was very hard to maintain a good grade in his class. He only gives out tests and one paper. No homework so you can't really help yourself out. Gets mad when you miss class, you have to make it up somehow. Randomly tells stories in the middle of class. Can be hard to understand. Repeats himself too much.
Okay, so he is a pretty nice guy but extremely hard to understand and always tell you to sniff the whiteboard markers for some reason. Not an easy class to excel in but he does give alot of extra credit though and missing classes is not an option. The book is a must read and atending is mandatory. Overall, not the best but okay. Good do much better
Prashar is one of the BEST professors that I ever had. His tests are easy and he is extremely funny. I would take him again and I recommend that everybody take him for sociology.
I did not like this man at all. It is not his place to give people a hard time for missing a class or falling asleep...He bashed 5 people in the class for dozing off, missing class, and talking during class. The class was well behaved, but he does not tolerate any informality!! This is college - not middle school! He needs to lay off, speak up, and
He is an excellent professor!!! He is a little strict with attendance and of course, he expects students to be awake in class otherwise leave the class. I don't think that's too much to ask, we are adults. He provides handouts and study guides. One of the best professors in RVC.
im not going to lie i was called out for dozing off but this teacher has no speech skills when it comes to presenting lectures, he talks about random crap all the time...none of which will ever be on an exam. on any given day he picks on at least 3 people or more a class. He sucks and i wish i would have dropped the first day instead.
he was cool, I wasn't doing great at the beginning butthen I picked up on how he wanted his journals and would read the book more! he's cool, alot of extra credit stuff, he'll try to help you if you need it! world religions was easy!
This class was easy, but the man put me to sleep. He's always asking if he's wasting time, tells us to sniff markers, and says "funky" a lot. He does NOT teach at all. He reads the handouts word for word--doesn't help at all. I tried asking questions, but he just told me the answers were clear cut (not to me, they weren't). Everything's subjective!
I hated his class and it was just a 3 week summer class. If the man could stay on track with the subject and quit trying to sell us khawanis tickets it would of been alot more enjoyable. Also he needs to learn that not everything has to do with religion or india.
I won't say his class is the most exciting thing in the world- but Professor Kanwal is an extremely kind person. He cares deeply about his subject and students, treat him with respect and you'll get it in return.
Great teacher! Really gets into the subjects and makes class interesting. Would def recommend him as a teacher to everyone. Wish I would have taken him for sociology as well
A little difficult to understand at first, but his accent grows on you. Make sure you pay attention to the syllabus and assignment rubrics. He is very, very picky about page layout and fonts. The field trip and guest speakers were very helpful.
THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!! You can't understand him. If you come to him with a problem he acts like you shouldn't be having a probem b/c he thinks hes perfect. He stood over the top of me staring while I was trying to finish a test; in front of the entire class and kept saying "are you done yet" STAY AWAY FROM HIS CLASS!
Not a terrible guy as a person but seems to not understand that a study guide is supposed to help us on the exam not be busy work. I do better on exams when I don't do the study guide and make one on my out of the book. His tests are somewhat irrelevant. He rather you know numbers than philosophies of the religion. Good guy, but not great professor
Very nice teacher. Very helpful. Sometimes gets offtrack in discussions, but always makes sure you have all he info needed for the tests and quizes. Gives alot of time for papers, only downside was that attendence was mandatory.
He gets off track. You are uncertain what is relevant. He grades fairly and immediately after exams which are multiple choice and matching. He is willing to discuss disputes about wrong answers. You MUST study. 45% of test questions are taken from the study sheets and rest are from the book. Knows his subject matter very well.
If you are looking for a caring, wise, intelligent and interesting professor. Take any of his classes. He is passionate and will go off track, just as any passionate professor does. He will give you the tools you need to succeed. He wants his students to do well, he is not the kind that wants you to fail. Pay attention, be respectful.
Professor Prashar is a really nice guy and is very passionate about his field of studies. He oftenly gets sidetracked and says some slightly inappropriate things (he means well, good intentions, but I think there's a cultural disconnect), but he knows his stuff and his tests are easy if you pay attention. You get used to his accent as well.
He has 40+ years at Rock Valley College. Despite what most of these poorly spelled and unhelpful reviews have to say, he is a good teacher. He does tend to go off on wild tangents, but does try to keep his students interested in the subject and adds humor here and there-ocassionally slapping himself with wild disregard.RECOMMENDED for basic SOC.
I enjoyed having him as a teacher. He is very passionate about what he's teaching. He is willing to help you as much as he can. Sometimes he would ramble on about nothing, but overall I think he's the best teacher for this subject. Make sure you read the chapters because he takes alot of the material from the book.
Very fun professor. He always tries to help but his intentions are often offset by misunderstandings. He encourages asking questions in class but often embarrasses students by overreacting. Overall he is good for a passing grade and a fun experience, but if you want the perfect A you might want to look elsewhere.
The textbook is your best friend. I thought the class would be super easy, but he's difficult to understand. If you have him but on time & PAY attention even though its hard. I studied & had notes and I received low grades on his test. How I survived was extra credit and the papers. I got a C in the class.
I would NOT suggest Prashar as a teacher. I had him for world religions. I could not understand him, his lectures were inconsistent with his tests, and he did not answer any questions I had for him. Very disappointed.
He is such a nice guy and you can tell he really cares about his students, but sometimes he can get off track. You must read the book in order to get a good grade. He gives you handouts which are pretty helpful, but on tests he uses the handout, book, and lecture . Clarity can be a little rough at times. You get used to his accent.
I definately recommend Prashar. I had him during the summer and he really made sure that everyone did well. Just like any college class you have to study and take notes. He is probably the best teacher for World Religions because of all his experiences and knowledge. It's hard not to do well in this class because it is very interesting
Mr. Prashar pays extra attention to students' grades and wants everybody to pass (considerate/concerned). The way he structures his class is a bit overwhelming (we go over ALL of the major religions/it doesn't help when you're taking 18 credit hours). He doesn't have a strong accent, but he kind of talks in a hushed tone. He's okay as a teacher.
Prashar is one of the nicest, most caring people on the planet. A little difficult to understand at times, but that's no big deal. He is always willing to help out. Make sure to read the book, go to class and not screw around. I learned about religions, but more importantly I learned how to respect others.
Prof. Prashar is one of the nicest people I have ever met. He has a thick accent that is difficult to understand at times. I found that his tests and quizzes are pretty difficult, even after studying the notes. If you take his class, be ready to put some serious time into studying.
Prashar is one of the nicest people ever and is funny but his accent makes it hard to understand him and his tests are based on things he mentions once. I don't really recommend him
I am very grateful to have had this man as a professor. He taught me more about religion (and myself)than just words in a textbook. Listen to him, he has something to say.
Nicest teacher, he wants everyone to get at least a B and will work with them to get that B. His thick accent makes it hard to hear and understand him, nonetheless, he is very knowledgeable.
Kanwall Prashar show great respect for his students and the religions he teaches about. Often Prashar gets to emotional when discussing the religion and is very disorganized resulting in lots of class time being used for office trips.
My favorite professor this semester hands down. Really knows his subject matter and more. He's lived lots of life and has tons of knowledge to offer. His lectures were kept interesting with random life stories that I really enjoyed. Tests are not bad if you study the guides he hands out each chapter. Field trip was a great experience.
He's a really good professor, yes he has a thick accent that's a little hard to understand, but he doesn't mind repeating something for you. Quizzes every week, but if you read the chapter and do the study guides they're quite easy to pass. A bit boring, and hard to remember names from religions discussed.
To succeed in this class, you must schedule a study time for each weekly quiz as well as take good notes on your papers. It helps to sit in the front to listen to all his lectures. He is rather wise man that is filled with stories that make the class interesting. Also, read each chapter as there are questions on the tests. There is extra credit.
Lectures not helpful but attendance is a big grade percent. Expectations for papers unclear at best. Very dull
He is very hard to understand. All he does is lecture the whole time which doesn't make anything any easier. I have taught myself everything I know in this class. I am usually a solid A student, I have never had a C before in my life but this class was very hard.
Absolutely terrible. Hated every second. Learned nothing at all. And was very hard.
Worst professor I have ever had in my schooling. Hard to understand, horrible grader, not clear about what he wants, he barely knows how to communicate
His class is very boring, and his lectures are mostly just him reading a worksheet that he typed up. His tests can be very difficult, especially since a lot of the questions seem random and are never talked about in class. He also grades tough on the papers that we have in his class. I will not be taking any of his classes again.
I loved the stories he would tell us in class, but he would get off topic and require us to read the book more than look at the hand outs. His grading scale I find confusing because it is out of 600 instead of the normal 100%.
He is a very nice guy and a funny little man and you can tell he knows a lot about all the world religions. If you take time to study using the handouts he gives in class you should be able to pass all his tests easily.
He would ramble on telling stories that were somewhat relevant into the course but never went into detail or tried to explain specific religious concepts. I also had a big problem with him stating, "Whoever tells you Islam is a religion of peace is lying." For a class that is supposed to teach you of other beliefs he doesn't seem very tolerant.
One of the best instructors I had in my university teachings.
I had taken Dr. Prashar for sociology and world religions. At first I was struck by his knowledge and interest in me as a student but he puts on a good front. For a professor to have to constantly say he is humble and he is tolerant, then it means they are hiding something. He played on many stereotypes and ethnicities of students in class.
Promotes Hinduism and puts down other religions especially Islam. He made it a point to say he was from the Brahmin cast but doesnt believe in a cast system. He also makes his political views not so subtly known. Very pro-Israel
