She takes this way too seriously for a General Education class, I mean she can be nice at times but she grades papers and whatnot pretty harshly. Considering how much she loves theater you would think she would be teaching upper levels. The group project is the best thing in that class.
Good Professor. She enjoys teaching. However, she does require you to think. Hence, the papers... She is funny, and seems intimidating at first with all the rules and requirements but if you can follow rules then no problem. She does grade papers as an English teacher. I am glad the credit hours was moved from 2 to 3. This class requires at
She seems scary at first cuz she has so many rules. There is a lot of work but she offers so much extra credit its almost impossible to not do well. I ended the classes with a 100%
She's a good teacher and is very passionate about theater. her powerpoints speak for themselves so theres really no need for the online text except to access WEBCT. Only complaint is that she gives a LOT of busy work. Easy class overall though. Oh and attendance is mandatory. you can miss like two classes.
Grades VERY harshly, but gives out a TON of extra credit. Very funny, and she knows her theatre. All quizzes and tests are online and multiple choice. It's next to impossible not to get an A. It's the play responses that she grades harshly.
easy. just show up to class and take good notes from the power points. quizzes and tests are online and you can see your grades anytime. the play responses are a pain as well as the final project but gives lots of extra credit. theatre sucks but she's probably the best.
Easy class. Attendance mandatory. Quizzes and tests all online. Grades papers a little harsh but the amount of extra credit provided sure helps and almost guarantees an A. Easy A. If you must take TPS she is the one. She is funny. In the beginning acts like she is very strict, but she is really nice.
She has been, by far, my favorite professor in college. I LOVED her class. It was fun, but there was A LOT of work. If you're lazy and don't want to go to class, then this class is not for you. There is a huge group project and it was a little frustrating , but that was due to group members. I definitely recommend her class.
She takes the class too seriously for a gen. ed class, but then again all of the "arts" professors do. If you do the work, and do the final performance/final you can make an easy A in the class. The extra credit she gives helps too. Do the work, make the A.
She loves her work and is fair. You do the work required and participate and you will get an A. She gives extra credit and explains all. She is straight up with the students. Be respectful to her and her theater and she does so back to you.
Professor Cantrell is a great teacher! If you're looking for an easy A, this is it. You rarely use your book. She assigns you a play to read (easy), all tests/quizzes online (easy), participate in class (easy), and final project (easy). You catch my drift...
She's certainly entertaining and deserving of respect. But if you aren't interested in performance arts, the lectures will be pretty boring. The 5 minute play you put together has the potential to be either really fun or painful if your group doesn't cooperate. Tests and quizzes are easy. Make sure you have some insight to the performance responses
I loved her. She makes her expectations known, but she is willing to work with you when "life happens." I thoroughly enjoyed her and would welcome the opportunity to take her again.
Easy class! She makes you think that she is going to make the class hard but in the end its an easy A. Only some days do you have to show up (group days) but overall it was an easy class.
Let me preface this by stating that I did get an A in this class. The work is easy, but the amount is obscene! I wrote the equivalent of 4 papers and did a group project that required lots of work outside of class. She patronizes her students & I am confused by the favorable reviews I have seen on here. If you like busy work, this class is for you
This professor will make you write and critically think about the 3 mandatory events you need to view. Her quizzes are easy and her tests are just the same. Pay attention, go to class, and do your group project and you'll do very well in her class.
If you are having trouble choosing what art appreciation class CHOOSE THIS ONE! She is really easy and she is extremely nice. She is an actor and really loves everything that she does. I have a 100% in this class and I still have extra credit to apply. If you have group project days BE SURE TO COME. I would take her again!
Kantrell is fairly easy, but VERY difficult to communicate with which is frustrating since the class in online. Class includes discussion post assignments and responses, 1 response paper, and response discussion, 10 online quizzes, 2 online tests, and a final project.
This class involves a lot of work for what should be an easy elective. I took an online class because I work full time and I need an art elective for my major--however, this was the WRONG one to take, because all of her discussion posts, projects and assignments are very time consuming and graded with a fine toothed comb...
KC was minimally involved as an instructor. There were many conflicting instructions about assignments and due dates, and she was not there to answer questions or clarify. Material is easy - articles, PPT slides, etc. Weekly discussion posts, quizzes, attend 2 performances and write papers. Final presentation. Easy class, horrid instructor.
i enjoyed her classes, but she is a teacher who demands to be impressed. yes, i understand that this is a college class, but it s a required core requirement. interesting lectures but just not a good fit for me. requires three plays which i never got to and also a group project. online reading quizzes which she doesn't mention in class.
Professor Cantrell is very tough. What seems like an easy worksheet, you will receive a 70 on because "A's are for overachievers" Very tough grader. Expect online quizzes, pop quizzes, and a major group project.
This class is way too labor intensive to be a gen-ed core class. Quizzes and Tests are easy, but the essays about the required performances (there's 3) and the final group project takes LOTS of extra time outside of class. I got an A, but I worked HARD for it. I would not recommend taking her!
If you don't like group projects this is not the class for you. There is a lot of work to do, however Mrs. Cantrell is very funny and her lectures have all been super amusing. Make sure to go to all the lectures so you don't miss questions on the quizzes. If you're willing to put in the work, it'll reflect in your grade.
She is nice person but she seems very overly stressed about having a lecture class. You following the directions but not going above and beyond will grant you a C. In addition to having to go the extra mile for ALL her assignments, there are also plays you need to see which WILL cost you money and gas!
Professor Cantrell is a great professor. Even though she has 3 required plays for you to go to in the semester they really aren't that hard to do and sometimes they can be interesting. She tries her best to make lectures interesting. Take good notes for quizzes. Quizzes are easy and short and they are online so you can use your book.
Overall, the class it self isnt that bad, but she makes things very stressful and sometimes requirements are unclear. Following the instructions will grant you a C. Two tests and the final is your group play presentation.
If you have another Professor option.. choose it. Cantrell is confusing in her instructions and a very tough grader. The quizzes and tests are easy because they are online but the play critiques can be difficult. The final is a huge group project worth 300 points. DO NOT be late or use electronics in class!
There are mandatory plays to go see, big group project at the end that is a majority of your grade. If you do the work you should get a good grade, but it is time consuming.
She seems tough at first, but maybe it's the perception that you wanna make students fear you first that she tries to pursue. I don't know, but what I do know, is that she actually cares for you. You might want to hate her and all her assignments in the beginning but I promise, if you hold tight... at the end you will be thanking her. I did.
Honestly, she was really annoying to me. She assigned a very complicated group project that no body wanted to work on. She does give extra credit, but buying tickets to the required performances adds up for a poor college student.
I wouldn't recommend this class for anyone who has a busy/hard schedule. It's a lot of work throughout the whole semester. A group project that you work on all semester is a majority of your grade. 3 required performances, all with a response for each one that gets harder over the semester. You can get a good grade, but you have to work for it.
You will have to put on a play with your randomly-assigned group members as your final project. There are lectures throughout which will be tested on later (via lockdown browser). She is a "professional thespian" so she takes the class seriously. I would take her again, but she takes getting used to.
Cantrell is engaging, enjoyable, and no nonsense. She lays out everything for you and takes little pity on people in terms of grades. Attendance is only mandatory on group project days but you will fail the quizes if you do not go to the lectures, so you better go. I would take this class again no doubt.
Took this class to check a box. She grades very specifically. I failed a paper with an f after paying to go see a performance and writing 1050+ words about it, due to the fact that I did not address the characters as the actors/actresses names. She treats this class way too seriously and students are better off taking another instructor.
Professor Cantrell is an extremely hard grader, she makes a "basic" general education class hard. Her quizzes are impossible, and she takes everything way too seriously.
Avoid taking her class if you don't like theatre. It's mainly boring lectures on the technicalities of it and then one day you're all of a sudden forced to create your own short play in a group project with randomly selected class mates. Seldom time is spent letting everyone practice actually being on stage so each project is destined to be awful.
She is crazy about theater and expects you to love it like she does. The entire final is a group play where you have to design a theater company with randomly selected classmates. The tests are almost entirely based off of the text. You do not need to buy it as she provides an online version. Do not take unless you are a theater nut
We didn't really learn any theater terminology, but we always played new improv games and did scenes. You can only miss three days before she starts deducting points by the letter grade.
She is a nice teacher, but be ready to pay $5-$20 on each play that you HAVE to go. She is one of those teachers where she is making a fun class a hard class. Its not impossible, but I would not recommend it to any of my friends. You also have to be dedicated because of the group projects and making sure that you make all the plays!
Way too serious about a class that most people take to get their fine art credit. Do not take if you want an easy A. An A is possible, but you have to work for it. Tests are extremely hard, lengthy, and timed. Have to do a group project for final grade that is a performance in front of whole class.
She is nice one on one, but in front of the class likes to assert her dominance. The tests are difficult, but you are able to use your resources. She requires you to go see plays, but they weren't that bad. The group project at the end is tedious, but do-able especially if you have a good group.
Your "final exam" is a group project where you produce your own play. It is immensely time consuming, and infuriating to deal with when you have 3/4 other finals you need to study for. She takes her class so seriously and acts like you're on Broadway. Also spent $60+ on mandatory play performances. Not the worst, but please avoid her if you can.
If you go to class and participate class is more fun. If you get a bad group for your group project you are SOL! The theater performances are expensive but if you usher (like I did) you can go to all of them for free!
I love Kara she's an amazing person but 1107 is the most extra class I've ever taken. There's more work than should be and if you don't like theatre or group work do not take it. She's super chill though and there are quite a few extra credit opportunities.
Wonderful woman but likes to think that everyone is a theatre major. Tests are exactly what she says in her lectures so pay attention!! I failed every test but managed to make a B because of the group project.
The tests are taken from the lecture & textbook (she provides a link to the free online version). She takes this class seriously & expects you too as well. You will be required to see 3 plays so prepare yourself for that. The group project is worth a lot so cross your fingers for good group members.
Prof. Cantrell takes her class seriously and expects you to do so as well. Very nice, and knows her stuff. The group project is a major part of your grade so pray you get good group members. Lots of extra credit. I really enjoyed this class and if I ever needed another theater class in the future, I'd definitely take her.
Professor Cantrell can seem intimidating at first, but is very nice and funny. she appreciates if you talk to her after class and ask questions. the work is not hard at all, some required plays and some are off campus, and you have to buy the tickets. not a lot of homework, and theres a group project thats a very important part of your grade
Great teacher I highly recommend. The first couple months are boring but once you get in a group project it turns to your favorite class!
Cantrell was ok. Not difficult, just didn't particularly enjoy her as a professor. Tests are composed of lecture notes, readings, and about the plays you're required to see. I love theatre so this class was easy for me. Big semester project is a play that your group must write, direct, and perform. She's a little all over the place with assignments
This professor is alright. The class at first was really boring and all you do is notes but it ends up being a chill class once the group project is the main focus. Don't stress about the group project to much as If you do it and complete it she gives you an A for it. Just put in the little work that is necessary and its an easy A
If you want an easy A, this is not the class for you but if you really like the arts and want to get the most out of this gen ed requirement, absolutely take this class. You'll go to awesome performances, learn a lot of neat theater history, and complete an insane but rewarding creative group project. It's a lot, but in the end, it was a good exp.
My favorite part about being in Professor Cantrell's class is you do something different everyday. Some days she lectures, some days we act, and she days we would work on our group projects. The only down side is you have to go to 5 plays outside of class on your own time, and some of the theaters are 45 minutes away.
First half of class is slideshows about theatre. Second half is working with your group on your final group project: a scene performed for the class. Sometimes she messes up grades and you have to contact her. Most frustratingly, other times she posts assignments without warning and with little time before the due date. Confusingly unorganized.
Do not take this class if you dont have reliable transportation or extra money to spend on mandatory plays. Dont take if you dont want a lot of work. Class is really easy to pass if you go to all the plays and do the assignments for the plays. The final project is actually really fun though. You will pass if you do all work, not a hard grader
She is a great professor and funny too! She gives you quizzes that you have to complete and also a midterm ALL ONLINE. They are all based off of the lectures, so take notes and you will be fine. You'll have a group play where everyone must participate, and yes... you have to act. Just pay attention and you will be fine.
Professor Cantrell is the best teacher of TPS 1107, however, the final grade, and only major grade, is a group project. She assigns the group to you, and I hate group projects and fear for my grade because my group is irresponsible. It is a frustrating class, and she isn't the most helpful - to her it's not her problem. One on one, she is nice.
BIG group project that is your final and it basically half of your grade. Really easy A class though. Attendance is mandatory!
She tries to make her lectures interesting and assigns a big group project half way through the semester and..... it's great you rarely have to come to class and the project itself is super fun!
Professor Cantrell is passionate about theatre an it is evident through the coursework. She has a strict no phone and attendance policy. This class consisted of going to required performances, essays, reading, quizzes, and a group project. She allows you to usher the required performances for extra credit. Overall too much work for an elective.
Professor Cantrell is very passionate about theatre. First half of the class is lectures and textbook readings. Second half is group project (worth 30% of final grade). Three mandatory performances outside of class, with discussion/response posts for each. About 10 quizzes or so. Do the work and you should be fine.
Very sweet lady. Entertaining lectures. Pretty disorganized but this works in your favor because if it's in the syllabus but she doesn't get around to it she just gives you a 100 on it. 75% of our class got an A. Group project is worth a lot of your grade though and you work on it for months.
This class is really one huge group project but luckily I was paired with an amazing group of people. I really enjoyed being able to direct my own play as it made for quite a fun experience. Professor. Cantrell was very down to earth. The tests are hard even with the textbook.
I love professor Cantrell. She always responds to emails and offers a good bit of extra credit. You have to attend 3 plays but they are pretty interesting, you also have to read 3 plays but they aren't very long. Her work is very easy if you pay attention and take notes. The lowest I have made on a quiz is an 80. Most of them come straight from ppt
She brings her personality to the class and does not make things unnecessarily difficult
The teacher is seeing problems everywhere and think that the students are not concentrated in lecture even when they are actually concentrated. The professor is reserved the right to remove 50 points of attendance credit after 3 strikes that she distributes for minor issues.
Was an easy class, loads of extra credit just thrown at you. A quiz each week over lectures, posts lectures into D2l and you have multiple attempts. Three required performance to attend and write essay over, not really sure what she grades off of. Essay not just a short review with easy 100. Final was a 5-7 minute scene from a play. Group project
There is 3 plays READ for the class and a quiz about them, and 3 (good) plays you need to see outside of class ($) but you write a paper about them which sucks. There is also lecture/book quizzes. Have a final project where you and a group perform a section from one of the plays you read for the class. she is extra, esp. w/ busy work. no tests tho
She was nice and posted all of her lectures online. Quizzes are open notes and always very easy as well. Her final is a group project that takes up most of the semester and can be very easy with a good group, and she is understanding when some students don't participate in the group.
Nice and understanding professor, cares about theater and is very knowledgeable. Posts lecture notes online and has a clear and generous grading policy with a couple short papers and some easy quizzes. Large group project but she is very understanding wrt group members not pulling their weight. Do note you have to see three plays on campus.
great class. have to attend plays and write an essay about each with a prompt. enjoyed plays more than I thought, easy over all class lots of extra credit.
Hated this class, I wanted to like it but this professor is very nitpicky about small things. She does give lots of extra credit opportunities and group work is relatively easy if you're put in a good group. You must attend the 3 required plays YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THOSE! I wish I knew that before I took this class. Theres also essays on those plays
Prof. Cantrell treats her class like an elementary school, her lectures are not well thought out and she often fails to capture the classes attention. To make up for this she's an easy grader and has a strike system that effectively gives everyone a bump at the end of the semester as long as they follow her rules.
I say this with zero disrespect, she spoke to us like a sadist. Would say things like if you ask me for slack Ill give you enough to hang yourself with, I like it when students fail, and was generally unhelpful when seeking guidance she deems "you should already know."
Genuinely loved her! She gave interesting lectures, had actual experience in the theater industry and had funny stories to tell. She doesn't give tests and her quizzes don't involve lockdown browser. There are 3 plays you have to pay to see. Group project at the end of the semester that accounts for 30% of your grade. 3 freebie attendance days.
She's really a hit or miss kinda gal depending on who you ask. If you stay on top of the few things you would be expected to do in any class, you should be good. NEVER be late, like not even by 1 minute because, "you're late by about 7 minutes in theatre." You better keep track'a mini quizes cus there's no making them up. She's funny and cool tho.
the class is pretty easy. however it was the most expensive class for me this semester. you have to see 3 plays each ranging from $10-$20 each to see. She's really great if you want to become an actor in the future. There is a big group project at the end worth a huge chunk of your final grade. I would recommend her though! ATTENDANCE HEAVY!!
Quizzes are open note and are tied to the textbook and lecture. Final is a group project that counts for a portion of the grade and can be very fun. If you miss enough class, points will be deducted from your grade. She has major writing assignments over the plays you are required to attend, but they are manageable. She offers extra credit as well.
Easy class but attendance and participation are mandatory. Harder to reach outside of class, but NO test. Group Project takes up the majority of your grade so beware.
If you have the option to take this class, you should take it. It was probably the easiest class I have ever taken, and Professor Cantrell is such a great teacher. The second half of the semester mainly focuses on a group project, which was really fun. You get 3 unexcused absences and then 5 points off your total grade, so attendance isn't crazy.
Her Theatre in Society class was really easy. All of the quiz questions are from the notes, and she always posts them. You also always get two attempts. You have to read a couple plays and spend money to go see a couple to write reflections on. The only thing is that you get three free absences before your grade is affected. Super easy class though
This professor was great! Her class was fun and easy. There is a group project at the end where you will have to act a scene from a play, but even that was made fun and simple. There's also quizzes about the textbook and you'll have a few plays to read, but it's not to difficult.
