She is a very nice teacher and she does a good job teaching how to write good college essays. The homework is pretty easy and she gives you plenty of time to re-write essays to make sure they are what she wants. Overall she is a great teacher.

I thought the class was going to be so hard the first day but it turned out to be so easy. She has you do busy work and turn in a journal almost every week and two essays but it's worth it. It you go to class and do the work ( which is so easy) you will get an A for sure!!!!!!!!!!

Kara is pretty cool, and pretty easy. She gets kind of annoying with attendance stuff though, so you need to go to class. You have homework pretty much every night, reading and doing journal enteries. Just do you work and you will get a good grade.

English has always been tough on me and I'm a weak writer but I managed to pull a B in her class. If you take the time and ask for her help she will assist you with no problem. Just do all of the journal entries, which are assigned everyday, and the four essays along with the midterm then you will at least pull a B. And show up to class.

She is the best professor! I cant believe anyone could ever rag on her about being bad, thats only because of their own incompetence. Take her I recommend it. I got an A in her class. Do everything on time, and ask for help, she doesnt bite. Shes excellent and I would love to take a class from her again.

This class was really easy if you did the work. There are 4 essays and the first essay is easy and she grades well. Journals every week but super easy, she just checks them and discuss. It was a fun and interacting class but I didnt have her for the last 2 weeks because she had her baby but def take this class.

I loved Kara; she is a great teacher that constantly keeps the class engaged in class discussions. I'm not going to lie and say it was an easy class; you must work hard, read the novel (Tortilla Curtain, great book), and have good attendance. You do three essays( 1 narrative, 1 literary analysis, and 1 research paper) and the final is an in class self-evaluation essay. She is very passionate about the subject she teaches which helps you learn.

HARD class! Don't take if you are in more than 12 units! There is the equivalent of a 2-page essay a week, two 5-6 page essays, constant pop-quizzes at the beginning of class, and a BRUTAL final you should start preparing for IMMEDIATELY! If you miss anything your grade starts going down. Don't miss the "extra credit"! You will learn a lot, though.

Nice, but hard teacher. Essays can be rewritten within a week,but they have to be way better for a better grade. Surprise quizzes for actual grades, so READ and actually remember. Participate in group discussions. Final consists of essay and remembering certain quotes from works read. So yeah, nice but tough. This class needs extra time studying.

Okay I took this class my last semester before transferring to UCSD and let me tell you: this class was the only class that really prepared me for my experience at a 4 year university. This professor is more challenging, but definitely should be taken to see how classes will be after you transfer, down to the style her final is done in.

If you don't do the readings, your grades will suffer. Period. A journal writing was due at each class session about the readings assigned in the previous session. She's not an easy grader on papers, either. You have to step up your writing game. Don't half-heartedly turn in a mediocre paper and expect a B.

This class is really hard. If you want an A, you will put more time and effort into it than most of your other classes combined. But, she is really helpful and goes above and beyond in preparing you for each paper. You can also revise every paper, so take advantage of that. Don't expect an easy A and you'll be fine!

Kara Is an Awesome teacher! She is willing to help you out if there is anything you need and she will give you breat essay suggestions. 3 Essays total and a page journal due each class. I would certainly take another class from her. She is highly recommended. If you are looking to better yourself in English she can definitely help you.

Im super good at english like ap classes in high school and all that jazz so this class was not hard at all but a total pain in my ass. A journal due every class period, she yells at you if you dont raise your hand to leave, just super annoying. If your good at english and not lazy, take the class, otherwise I do not recommend.

This class is a good amount of work but it isnt too difficult to get that A. I did all the work I needed to do and made it clear to her that i was trying to get an A and got it. There are 4 essays i believe and 3 of them were a lot of work but fully possible. Overall a good class that if youre willing to work for it an a is completely attainable

Teacher is very nice and helpful. There are 4 essays which are all pretty simple and she gives you the chance to edit them to improve your grade. There is in-class work which is helpful.

The class did NOT live up to my expectations, but was an okay class. Felt very "high school" at times. I would most likely take her again, though. Kara is a very helpful teacher. I just finished up a semester with her and she helped me every step of the way. Will give you constructive criticism to help you rewrite your paper. Thoroughly explains assignments, I never missed one. A few quizzes in the first few weeks but they were only a few questions based on what we read the previous night.

Great professor. Sometimes a bit eccentric, but funny. Will give you constructive criticism, and open to interpretation of other ideas. 3 essays, 3 tests. Tests are passage identification. Essays can be rewritten for a makeup grade. Would recommend. Would take a class again.

I took her online class and it was probably one the best classes I have ever taken! She answered questions quickly and clearly. The work was hard but manageable. I actually ended the semester feeling like I learned something new. Take her if you want the best English education.

One of the best teachers that i have had by far. She always made sure that assignments were clear. The essays were tough, but she lets you do peer reviews in class and has other people read them weeks before they are due so you have a lot of time to make it perfect, she also lets you revise!! I got an A, and i felt like i learned a lot! TAKE HER!!

This was a completely online English class. This class was not easy by any means. There is plenty of reading and peer-reviewing. Naturally, lots of writing. If you are not a great writer or haven't been in high school for over 10 years, this class will be harder. However, Professor Monson is extremely helpful! You can see her in office for help!

Kara Lybarger-Monson is one of the best professors I've had. Her requirements are clear, and she's more than willing to help you. You can drop by her office hours and show her your essay, and she'll go through it and help you. She is very kind, and I would take her again if I had to take another English class. 10/10. I love this teacher. I took her class for English 1A & 1B online. You read assignments and post comments in the class forum. There are four major essays for each class, and you post your essays online for your classmates to do peer review. Peer review is very helpful and Kara is available by email or her office. I Enjoyed the class & learned a lot!

Amazing Professor. I was nervous to take an online class for the summer but I am SO glad I did. This class is straight forward and she provides you with abundent of info. I found the assignments to be really easy but then again I took my time to answer the prompts. Quiz answers can be found directly from the book so read! Thank you Professor Kara!!

I just took Kara for English M01A and I had no clue how to write an essay or how to organize my papers before taking this class. I learned so much in this class and I received an A! I thought I would for sure get a C. There is a 7-10 page research paper but it's required throughout the nation so every English comp college class will require it.

I took Kara this semester and she was a great. She always gave me advice that put me in the best position to succeed. She has a keen eye when she grades papers so you should make sure that you come ready to grow and learn. Overall this class transformed how I felt about my essay writing abilities. She is amazing. Kara is a tough professor, but she is not unreasonable. You get back exactly what you put in. I highly recommend doing the peer reviews and tutor submission for all 4 papers. that right there is 10% of your grade. had I done all 4 peer reviews I would have had an A in the class. Not an easy A, but definitely possible if you put in the effort.

Fairly easy if you stay on top of the reading. A lot of quizzes at the beginning of the semester but they do stop. Her class has 4 main essay's but she is very clear on what she wants and she gives good feedback. GO TO THE PEER RESPONSE DAYS, you'll be able to do essay corrections after she grades them and she tells you what to fix. Easy B

I took EnglishM01B with Kara and she is a great teacher. She gives you plenty of notice on assignments and she even sends out reminders the morning the day things are due. She really takes her students into consideration, very kind and caring. When it comes to grades, if you actually put in the effort you'll have no problem getting a good grade!

This is by far one of the best teachers I have taken. I took her for both English MO1A and B, and came out of both classes feeling great. She does make you work for the grade, but in the process helps you write some of the best papers, and will always be there to give you feedback whenever you need. Also, she is super caring. There's a lot quizzes but they're straight forward and really easy. You get a lot of freedom with your essay topics so I actually found them interesting. I love Prof Lybarger-Monson's class! She gives lightning-fast lectures, so be prepared to go over the lecture slides after class as well, and do the reading beforehand so you can keep up. Took her summer class so it was an accelerated course. Intensive load of discussions/reading. Tough grader but if you take her feedback, you'll improve. Optional revision on the first three essays. If you take her up on the offer for extra credit, which there is plenty of, you'll easily pass this class with an A. Otherwise, it will be a struggle.

If you are like me and panic about deadlines to the point that it gives you anxiety it makes it a difficult class. You will have to push through and believe in yourself. If you can get through you will be a much stronger and driven student because of it.

This class is a lot of work but it is actually meaningful and not just busy work. I did not enjoy reading until this class and now I am reading and analyzing literature for enjoyment Probably the best professor I have had and would recommend. Best advice is make a schedule to do assignments and do not wait until the last minute to turn work in.

She seems tough and for the first weeks, she is. Gave an essay one week, an entire novel to read the following week, and then another essay on the novel. After that, though, she slowed down and gave less. Caring, responds quickly and helps.

Although the essays were difficult, I could always ask to meet with her (during office hours or not) and she would be happy to help me. Her help and feedback were very specific and useful. she's a really sweet teacher and actually helps you learn how to improve your writing. There are 3 in-class essays that you prepare for all during class time, but they are pretty stressful and are graded a bit tough. If you pay attention in class and read all the handouts and stories she gives and pay attention you will be fine.

If you want feedback on your essays, you have to email her. She grades fair and provides a lot of material that helps with writing the essays. LOTS of extra credit opportunities. The prompts and reading material are actually interesting and not some out-dated English.

kara heavily encourages talking when appropriate in class and interaction with classmates often for group discussions about in class readings. stay participatory and you will get a good grade in this class. shes also pretty funny lol

BEST ENGLISH PROF EVER. my writing improved DRASTICALLY after her class. i loved every short story + poem she handed out + the notes i took on them. she understands english as an art and form of expression. looked forward to this class every day. highlight of my time at moorpark. take her class, you will leave it as a better writer + person

Of all the English professors, Kara was the best. Her class was tough, but pretty great. She gives pretty interesting readings. Her page is well organized & is strict about her deadlines. Email her for detailed responses. We had abt 4-5 essays, many discussions, readings, & ex. credit opportunities. She's really sweet, just be professional.

Kara is a super sweet and understanding professor. She is big on group discussion so you have to do the work and really put effort into understanding the content to do well in her class. She is the toughest grader I've ever had, she gave me my very first B. I still enjoyed her class even though I'm not a fan of English because it was so engaging!

Great professor, but lots of assignments! She's a bit of a tough grader but her feedback is great and its clear she only wants the best for her students. Took this class online and felt overwhelmed at times, but passed with a good grade so know that its plausible !!

I took her in-person honors class, and her coursework is not heavy we had a total of 2 papers (6-9 pg ea)1 presentation (based on paper)and the final in-class essay for the entire semester.She does not require textbook but does have us buy a book for the semester which was only $10 on Amazon.She is kind and very hilarious.I greatly recommend her!

Professor Lybarger-Monson's poetry class was very fun and taught me a lot about poetry, and even got me interested in writing my own as a hobby. She is extremely kind and I enjoyed her in-person class as one of the most fun classes I've had all semester. I highly recommend taking it!
