He keeps the class fun, and he's very passionate about math. He assigned a lot of homework in a previous level class. Second class with him, and would recommend him. He is willing to go over any questions and teaches through examples which is nice.
He is an ok guy, but he gets off topic too much, and tries to be funny. He says stories that think help you, but just waste your time.
Are you kidding me? This teacher is greattttt. He is not so easy with grading, but is above awesome overall. Loved his class and his attitude. Very cool teacher, need more of this kind in Harper. Thanks Mr. Cooper
Best math teacher I've had. He teaches through example and is good explaining things. He does give a lot of homework, but doing the homework does help prepare for tests. He does sometimes go off in a tangent when he teaches. Overall, good teacher.
Cooper is an excellent professor and a great human being. He is friendly, lively, and made Math my favorite subject a couple of semesters ago. Be sure to look for him in the Math lab if you do not understand something in class, or find him in his office -- he WILL help you with Math, even if you're not in his class anymore!
He is very funny and approachable. If you have any problems with the homework, he will go over them in class. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had!
AMAZING TEACHER, this is the only time in my life, that math has made sense to me. He will not give up until' you understand. GREAT PERSONALITY, the time just flew by in his class.
Wonderful teacher! This was the first time I was ever really excited about learning math and it's all thanks to Coop! He's funny, dedicated and overall an amazing teacher and a great guy. Although the material is tough he explains in a very understandable, fun way. I give him an A+!
He was an amazing teacher, he clarified question very well and always took the time to go over homework questions and make sure EVERYONE understood the material. The tests were decently hard but as long as you'd done the homework it was an easy A because he took many of the test questions right out of the book. Way to go Coop, keep at it!
Best Math teacher I EVER had. If you get the chance to take him I strongly recommend it. He knows the material very well, makes the class exciting and worth coming to, very good at explaining everything. (MTH 080, MTH 103, MTH 140)
He's a great guy, but quite honestly, I had a difficult time in his class. I took college algebra in high school, thought this would be an easy A. Not so much. The only things that make up your final grade are tests and quizzes. Only good part is that he drops many of the lowest scores you have.
Awesome teacher. Teaches the logic not just the formulas so you'll understand and remember it. Always available for extra help. Makes his class fun so your never bored. Lots of homework. Very fair grader. Would definitely take him again if need more math.
really good teacher. explains everything really well. would highly recommend. I'm retaking this class because I failed it last semester with a different teacher. Mr. Cooper made everything very easy to understand.
This guy is good. You will not fail his class unless you're retarded. Unlike the teachers from 20yrs ago, he actually does a great job explaining and teaching. Put in the work, and you'll receive a good grade. I unfortunately learned the hard way, and got a C, but if you put in the work, and go to class, an A is no problem.
BEST math teacher I have ever had!! Fun and funny, I actually learned the things I should have in high school. Mr. Cooper is great at explaining things on a real life point of view. Deffinatly take him if you have the chance!
He's a great teacher. Easy A if you attend classes and pay attention. Who knew Math could be fun!
Just was taking him in the summer, he was very hard for precalc, only grades test and quizes and no extra credit or mandatory hw which isnt good becausue people dont do hw then and fail the test. Not recommended in my opinion
Mr. Cooper was a great teacher. He's really nice and approachable. His tests aren't that bad nor are the quizes. Most of the quizes were take home.
Easily the best math teacher I've ever had. He's hilarious and really makes you like math. I'm so glad I had him. Book him now. He's the best it gets.
HE IS THE BEST !!! I wish he was teaching calculus ! he is a really nice person and very approachable
hes a good teacher but dont even bother to ask him to bump up your grade if your right on the edge of a letter grade..he wont do it and wont care at all
hes a good teacher but dont even bother to ask him to bump up your grade if your right on the edge of a letter grade..he wont do it and wont care at all
I hated math, especially Algebra when I came into this class and didn't expect to do well. However, Mr. Cooper really makes math fun to learn and keeps you interested. He also explains it in different ways to reach each student. I would recommend him to anyone.
very good
Mr. Cooper was a very enthusiastic teacher, but I did not like the way he taught. I took precalc in high school and thought it would be an easier class but I do not get the grade I thought I would. I did not think he was very clear and during class he made a lot of mistakes. So if you have taken precalc before, I would not suggest this teacher.
He's cool and really funny. He makes it simple to show up 3 times a week. He knows the subject and is always willing to help, and will dispute any problems with grading.
Mr. Cooper is a great guy! He'll probably tell you on the first day that he tends to act very awkwardly, but I think he's just a hilarious kinda guy. He's very clear in his lessons and wants to make sure that you understand what he's teaching. He's pretty good on getting back to you if you send him an email.
Funny guy and it helps pass the time in his class but his notes are very incosistent. He often has to erase what he writes and correct himself alot and I felt as though he did the lesson on the spot without coming up with any examples beforehand. I can't count how many times a person in class had to correct him on a subject HE is teaching.
Best Math teacher I have ever had! He makes math easy and painless. I really liked the way he taught us and his personality. He is very understanding and will help you out anytime you ask for help.
Don't take Calc I with Mr Cooper. Your whole grade is based on quizzes, tests and a final son unless you get As on every test... there is no chance for an A. He is also very strict on the way he wants things presented on the test (right answer, incorrect notation) and since there is no feedback on Homework, you don't know until after the test.
very laid back and funny guy. loves to teach math, so he'll help you out as much as he can. take him, tests & quizzes are easy!
Overall he had very good communication skills and presented the material well, however his tests never have an moderately difficult problem. They all consist of extremely challenging problems from each section. You really have to understand the material completely going into a test.
He's a nice and funny guy but he gets off-topic a lot and makes a lot of mistakes when explaining problems on the board. You will need to know how to self-teach in order to do well in this class.
Mr. Cooper is a really laid back teacher. He tries to teach you why you do the things you do in math. His exams aren't too difficult, if you understand the work. He expects you to be able to master each problem he shows you. He is really funny and makes class interesting. Definitely take him if you have the chance!
He is willing to help you if you don't understand something. He is laid back and is funny. If you like math, take him. Quizzes, hw (online as well), and tests are difficult so study!!!
He is a funny guy, but makes a lot of mistakes when writing things on the board. Gets off topic ALOT. Uses every single minute of class time. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE ONLINE WORK DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Book is online, homework is online, quizzes are online. Tests are pretty hard. Overall good guy, smart, teaching style just wasn't for me.
Guy is a joke. Students correct him alllll the time on his own subject. Confusing to follow and homework does not count for anything. Do not take him if possible.
Dr. Cooper has been a fantastic teacher so far this semester, complete with take-home quizzes and homework reviews. I strongly recommend him for those who have a good understanding of math already. Only complaints are that his tests are too long (but he gives you more time) and that his examples sometimes get messy.
I took the MTH200 Honors course w/ Karega. He's a really chill guy, very likable personality, and he loves to laugh. As far as teaching, he's not the smoothest. He'll make some basic math errors while doing problems on the board that the students often end up catching. He takes it at a slower pace, though, which can be nice for some students.
He's a good teacher. Good at explaining stuff students are having trouble with. Doesn't allow notes for test taking, so you do work for your grade, but you probably end up better off in the long run.
There are too few characters to say how good he is and how much I liked him. Short version. He's very funny. You'll laugh at least once per class. (Ask him about his PAL.) Lectures are good. He comes up with examples in class so it seems unpolished but he gets the material across good Homework is daily, as expected and he goes over it next day.
Professor Cooper is a great professor. I was hoping to get a B on this class but the finals hurt my grade really bad. Of all the rest, he is so far the best choice for calculus class. But then again, if you don't have any good foundation on basic algebra, then neither professor will be a solid choice for you.
Definitely one of the best professors!! Highly recommended. Attendance is not mandatory but it is good to show up!! really chill and funny guy and you will surely enjoy his class. There are over all four tests and one final but he will drop the two lowest test scores if your final points are higher! loved his class and is available outside class!
If you attend the lectures and do the homework, you won't have a problem in this class. He makes math fairly simple (bonus: he explains WHY things work which is great). Funny guy as well. You will laugh every lecture. He's willing to help you outside of class. Drops 2 quizzes and final exam can replace a lower test grade.
He is funny and a great guy but isn't the best at teaching. He often makes simple mistakes in class which makes me question his level of knowledge. Him not being able to teach the class like second nature makes it hard to absorb and take the tests. 4 tests 4 take home quizzes
Professor Cooper is a great guy and is really funny. He explained why things work instead of just giving you the equations. He answered all homework questions and has a lot of office hours if you need his help. He cares about your success.
Karega, as he wants to be called, is a really down-to-earth guy. He genuinely cares about your success. My M103 class was all online learning, so he wasn't allowed to teach, but I know if he did, it would be great. Really good dude.
Super laid back and funny. He is a tough grader when it comes to tests but he wants his students to understand the topics he is covering. If you practice daily and complete the homework you'll do fine. One of the best instructors I have had at Harper. Truly cares abut his student's success.
I took calc 1 with him in a summer class in 2017. I just received an award in calc 2 based off the foundation he gave. He wants people to learn and ask questions if they don't understand. As for homework it wasn't worth a grade. I enjoy that system because if snuffs out the lazy people that don't want to do it if it isn't for a grade. Take him.
Genuinely one of the greatest math professors I have ever had. He gives you a clear definition of material and how to apply the necessary equations. He's the only math professor I have encounter that can clearly articulate how a property, rule, identity, or equation relates to the material you will encounter. This class requires effort, be prepared
He is a great professor! He is hilarious and helpful outside class. Gives homework and expects us to complete it for the next day. But it is really really helpful. Do your homework, ask your doubts, and you'll be fine on the final.
He is a great teacher, he does get off topic, but it is a nice break from learning. He is willing to go over and help you understand the content in depth. Really funny. The textbook is not needed if you don't want to do the homework because it inst graded
GREAT person, very funny and respectful. Although your grade is based on tests and exams. Teaching is not for him, he only confuses you. Shows only one way of doing things. Very bad at explaining. You need to study on your own and get a tutor. Otherwise he is very kind and good guy.
Great person, very motivational, funny and can explain and communicate material in an easy way. Of course, for this communication to happen, like any school, do your homework with your full effort, otherwise it would be a world where any lazy person can get an A. His classes are very do-able given your effort and the type of grade is up to you.
Karega is so funny and just a genuinely nice person. He is very good at explaining the material and answering questions from students. Also, he expects students to work so pay attention during class and put effort into the homework!
Professor Cooper explains pretty well the definitions of the concepts and the different types of problems. However, he does make alot of errors and more than a math teacher should. Sometimes he gets stumped on the problems he assigns and in the beginning of the semester he questioned whether he should complete a problem a student had.
Karega is the best math teacher I've had. His lectures can get a little sidetracked. If you're the kind of person who doesn't usually understand math the first time you see it, he's a good professor, he knows how to explain things for someone who doesn't understand. Also, very cheerful, class was always fun.
Absolutely terrible. Demotivated. Gave up on his life.
Walking into class on the first day he was extremely funny and goofy almost to the point where I thought he would be a bad professor, but to my surprise he was my favorite professor I've ever had. Would take again If i could
ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD. TAKE HIM DO THE HOMEWORK AND DON'T SKIP THE CLASS. MAKES CLASS PRETTY INTERESTING LECTURES. TESTS ARE NOT THAT BAD. TAKE HIM FOR EVERY MATH CLASS
The class was kind of difficult but he is willing to help you pass. There is no chance for extra credit.
He is the Math teacher I have ever had at Harper. He makes the class fun and interesting. The homework is not mandatory, but you will need to do it to get a good grade in this class. It might be a little bit annoying that he makes quite a lot of mistakes during the lecture. Anyways, the only bad thing is that he is not teaching Cal 1 this Fall.
super respected and funny teacher, he really cares for his students and works with them so they can complete their work, however his class is heavily if not completely taught by aleks and I felt like I was taking an online class with an insane amount of homework. Every problem done on aleks has to be written out. I had to teach myself everything.
Make note I'm downright terrible at math. Mr. Cooper is hilarious and keeps you motivated for 16 weeks. He's extremely approachable. I took the ALEKS MTH 103 so it was computer based. The program itself is easy at first but by week 14 it will be pretty difficult. Mr. Cooper will help you pass but you have to put in the effort! YOU CAN DO IT!
Very funny and a genuinely nice person. However, math isnt my strongest subject and this was a hard class for me. Hes bad at explaining and makes so many mistakes while teaching that I didnt understand most of the material. The homework problems are also totally different than the ones he teaches in class, and your grade is only based on tests
He is the funniest guy I have ever met. Way toooo much homework and he doesn't do a good job explaining the problems. In conclusion if you want a good laugh and a good time take him but be prepared to teach math by yourself.
He is funny but his teaching skills suck he goes too off track and then at the end of class he tries to rush through his examples. He does not know how to manage his time and his quizzes/ tests are extremely hard and cover material he doesn't even teach due to the fact that he rushes everything through.
Karega is one of the most genuine professors at Harper and he is hilarious. He truly cares about his job and wants to put his students in the best position to succeed. If you have any questions, he will answer all of them until you have none and understand. HW problems are just like the test. Show up to class, have a good laugh, and pass with an A.
You will have a hard time finding a better teacher than Karega. I am a severely average student, but because of his passion for the subject and fun lecture style, I actually became interested in math and worked harder to get a good grade. The material itself will still sometimes challenge you (it's math, after all), but Karega makes it easier.
Professor Cooper is a nice professor, although he gives you alot of homework which includes practice assignments and then an exam each week. Exams are extremely hard!!!! no extra credit provided.
Please be careful taking Prof. Cooper. I took his summer precalc and was totally bombarded by how strenuous the homework can be. Tests are insanely difficult and account for a disproportionate amount of the grade. He also only responds in the mornings to messages. Please be careful taking him, precalc isn't easy, but he certainly doesn't help.
His online summer class is very hard. The good thing about lectures are that they are all prerecorded videos that explain the topics well, and make the homework easier and less tedious. However, his tests are incredibly hard, and he will ask the most difficult questions for each concept, have a short time limit, and take off lots of points.
Karega is by far one of the best math teachers I have ever had. His exams are not easy but he is more than willing to work with you to help you learn. He adapted well to the mid semester switch to online. I wish I could have stuck with him for the rest of my math classes through my time at Harper. He is a fantastic teacher who cares about you.
He teaches in the most confusing way possible. Doesn't care about his students. He wants us to do it the hard way, when the tutoring center taught me a much easier way to do it, but he wants us to struggle. When you ask him for help he makes you feel stupid for asking a question. He would also come to class with his fly open all the time
Professor Cooper has been one of my favorite teachers at Harper. He is extremely knowledgable and helpful to his students. He goes above and beyond to help student be successful in his course!
I loved Karega as a person. Such a great guy. If he was late on grading he would always make it up to us by giving us extra points. His class gets messy pretty fast so if you don't keep up, you will fall behind bad. Tests are not the easiest so you have to practice. Take him!!
the best teacher, just reach out he is always there to help you out!!!
I'm not sure why he has bad reviews but he's actually so nice! He's willing to help his students when they're struggling. He gives tutoring. He cares and he is willing to help his students achieve. I do recommend taking him. Especially if you struggle with math or Algebra 2 like me haha he's willing to go out of his way to help you be successful!
Karega is a very nice person. However, he does have a tendency to over-explain the material and talk too much about math topics from other courses. He also does make quite a few calculation errors during the problems and backtracks often. I'd say that if math is one of your stronger subjects you will be fine, but if it isn't don't take his class.
I took an online class and while I wasn't a fan of connect math platform online. Mr. Cooper would always make time to help me understand the material. He is very easy to get a long with and if he makes mistakes he will make up for it. Only problem is hw can be very long, but its math so its supposed to be tedious.
He's a very understanding teacher. The material and expectations are laid out clearly. The textbook isn't really necessary. He replies to emails fast and takes accountability for when he makes an error. Definitely choose this professor.
The grade I have is through my fault. Karega went out of his way to connect the concepts in Precalc to everyday items or to philosophical things even, stuff that makes the coursework engaging. He is also funny and tries his best to include everyone in participation. His grading system in tests is also very fair, grading on answer and execution.
Awesome professor, he has extended due dates for me, and raise my test scores, I went from a 72 on a test to an 80. As long as you make an effort in the class you will be rewarded. he gives multiple extensions and is super nice. at times he does get confused solving math problems. anyone giving a bad score is lying, he's probably one of the best!!!
Second time taking Mr.Cooper for math. Took his Algebra class last semester and he was great! As a teacher he is what you would hope them all to be, extremely caring of the students and passionate for the subject. Mr.Cooper always makes time for his students and has great energy. Math however is still hard so you have to do the work!
Professor Karega Cooper is the best professor I've had throughout my time at harper. His lectures are attention grabbing and you can tell he really cares about his students and strives to make sure students understand the material. I learned a lot throughout the semester and he's always happy to provide extra tutoring if you need it.
Karega is one of the most caring professors I've had. He has a likable personality and his lectures were informative, but always hilarious. He's pretty loose when it comes to grading as he is open to change your test grade if you come talk to him. He's also happy to discuss problems you have with hw. I'd 100% recommend him if you're taking MTH200.
Be aware that the summer class can be challenging to keep up with if you are also working or taking other courses. I wish I dropped out when I had the chance. The amount of material and homework is demanding within the span of just eight weeks. However, the class offers a unique blend of stand-up comedy and a math course, making it worthwhile.
Caution this summer class comes with an overwhelming amount of homework and a fast pace. Despite the demanding nature of the course, He has an exceptional ability to make the 2 hours of math class fly by effortlessly each day. His dedication to providing exceptional education, combined with his personable nature, makes this class worthwhile.
Karega is super caring about his students and gives extra credit when needed. There is homework quizzes every week and are pretty challenging but yet again this is a calc class...the homework quizzes also prepare you very well for the exams. He is also available for office hours and easy to contact. Would highly recommend to anyone.
He's nice but doesn't know how to teach at all. Half the time he just talks about his kids, gets distracted, & makes many mistakes during lecture. The way he explains things are confusing, he expects everyone to understand his weird analogies. I learned everything from the book & hw, not him. if you're not the best at math take anyone but him.
His teaching style was confusing and messy. There's no doubt that he's nice and funny, but I didn't like him as an actual teacher because it was just a lot of material and he doesn't seem so sure about everything he says. He did let us drop our 2 lowest test grades with the final which helped me a lot, but throughout the semester it wasn't too good
Sometimes his lectures can be disorganized, but if you give him the time he'll give it back. He does want students to look more in depth into math, which may be confusing at times but he does give you the tools to succeed. Super friendly, entertaining lectures, and personable. Prepared me for Mth 134 very well.
Can be tough to grade but that's how it is in math. It 100% feels like he's the calculus teacher he wishes he had, tries to make lectures entertaining and tries to get students more into math. I find his lectures to be entertaining, informative, and if you need help he will help.
Karega is AMAZING but since it's calc get ready to suffer. A LOT of homework for no grade made for you to practice. Quizzes for a tiny % of grade but really help with exams( 80% grade), challenging, but as long as you do ALL homework and study you will pass. Don't hesitate to ask for help from tutors, had to spend a lot of time with them to do well
He is indeed a good professor. He is entertaining and he makes sure that the students understand what he teaches and he also helps them understand the difficult homework questions and is also available outside class.
Professor Cooper is such a funny and kind teacher. class is confusing sometimes but I am not the best at math. I would always visit his office hours before tests. we had 4 tests and the final replaced out two lowest test scores. He tries to make his lectures fun and interesting.
Best calculus teacher I had since transferring to Harper College in Spring 2024, his lectures were amazing and easy to understand, be ready to do work and study after lectures because cmon its calc you need to put in some work. Very understanding and eager to teach, make sure to visit him during office hours he explains everything clearly.
Professor Karega makes math interesting with his unique approach. While he can get sidetracked at times, the class is worthwhile if you put in the effort. Unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the textbook.
Karega is an amazing person and teacher. He is always in a good mood and takes time to understand his students. It wasn't listed here, but I took his FYS course. Pay attention and participate and you'll learn a lot. He clearly has a passion for teaching
Prof. Cooper tailored his lectures in a very creative way. He's more of a visual explainer. If you struggle with math, I highly recommend taking Prof. Cooper. You will not regret it. Other reviewers say he goes off topic, but they leave out how he ties personal stories into explaining difficult, conceptual things. I would totally take him again.
He is such a GOAT. That's all I have to say about this professor. Take him if you can, he will not let you down!
He has the sauce but it might be too spicy for you. He's crazy but it's funny. He be going on random tangents or telling stories all the time. If you wanna be all serious about math then this probably isn't the best choice for you. Watch some math videos on youtube if you don't get certain topics.
Professor Karega Cooper is one of the funniest and most chill professors I have had. Makes lectures engaging and encourages everyone to make mistakes and answer with their best guess. We need more professors like him teaching. Straightforward grading process, easy to follow along, and motivates students to want to learn, not to memorize.
First ever college class that I took, and it was a great introduction. It's calculus, so it isn't easy, but if you do all the homework and pay attention during the lecture, it will be an easy A. His lectures were really engaging and very easy to understand because he explained and proved almost everything. Would 100% recommend you take him.
Homework is assigned every day, so it's important to do it to avoid falling behind
Karega is a very caring professor who loves to tell jokes or life stories during class. He provided homework every day ranging from 4 quick, easy problems to 10 harder, slower problems. He gives you till the end of the semester to complete. Test are pretty easy and are directly from the study guide. He also provides extra credit on all of them.
