Initially can be frustrating, but stick with him and get over the accent! He knows his stuff, very helpful and will help you pass. He means well...and wants everyone to pass.
This is the coolest professor!! Awesome teaching ability, hands out lecture notes that contain class material and lots of various examples that show up on the tests. His explanations are very clear and precise, test are easy!
He can have trouble communicating concepts once in a while but he will help out. He gives very fair homework assignments and tests.
He's the best math professor I've had. He does a good job balancing the mechanics of the formulas with intuition/understanding. And his in-class handouts are very helpful. I feel that his teaching methods made a difficult course much more manageable.
He's very meticulous and thorough in how he presents material. I felt very fortunate to have him as a professor because he did such an outstanding job.
He did a good job teaching. Sometimes he seems to be in his own world, but it's in a funny way. He also gives you full solutions that are clear and help immensely when reviewing.
Hard to understand at first because he has an accent, mumbles, and seems to be talking to himself half the time. But he is excellent at explaining mathematical concepts. Dr. Prikry is not very good at the practical elements of a course, tho. We had a hard time staying on schedule and he seemed disorganized.
Slight accent but still easily understood. Tests are very easy. Tends to lose track of what he is actually lecturing on and ramble, but he is very in-depth in what he rambles on and even the rambling can be useful sometimes.
Karel Prikry is one of the most eccentric professors I've ever had. He means well, but he teaches MATH 2243 in a way that you'll be able to do well on his tests, but you'll have a hard time applying the content to other areas. Also, he has a tendency to mutter, and he also tends to over-elaborate. The textbook he uses is horrible. Be warned!
I learn everything from my TA and pretty much don't need to go to lecture
He's a really nice guy, always willing to help you outside of class. His exams are straightforward. I would recommend him--I'm actually taking him again this next semester.
Prof. Prikry is a nice guy, but he really enjoys muttering to himself during class. His tests are quite easy so you don't really have to worry about your grade here. but he tends to go way into details about little things. overall i think the class is not bad. TA's are helpful. Go to discussions.
He's a great guy and he really tries to make sure that everyone does well. His tests are on exactly what we learn. If you're confused, going to the TA might be best even though he'll try to help. One down: He only gives the actual homework just before due, so working ahead means more work.
Karel is definitely a character. He's a little abrasive but you'll get used to that. He's really nice, otherwise, and has a quirky sense of humor. He doesn't try to fail his students which is a change from other math professors. Go to lecture and take good notes! Math will make sense! Do the homework because that will help with exams.
There were days where Prikry would come in and clearly teach a concept in one lecture with no frills. There were other days where he would get sidetracked and talk about things not 100% related to the course. Either way, the tests were very straightforward, he was always helpful after class, and for what it's worth, he had a good TA. Book was so-so
Very slow. Book is a substitute for the class.
He knows a great deal about math, but it does not translate well into teaching. He cannot convey his knowledge effectively only minutely because of a language barrier. Mostly, he moves too slow.
Take him!! Gives out notes prior to class. Exams are straight from his study guides with numbers changed. His explanations are not the best, but he knows his stuff. Great prof. and really funny. [He sometimes talks to himself lol]
His notes are a mess, his lectures range from useless to confusing, and his tests consist of maybe 5 questions if you are lucky. Get one wrong and you can kiss a good grade goodbye. It's a shame. I liked math before I got to the U. Now I hate it.
He is hilarious, although doesn't teach much. I went to the class for its entertainment value. Occasionally he has flashes of teaching brilliance. He has a great TA, so go to the discussions. The book is worthless, but the class is easy enough that you can learn everything through wikipedia.
Really great teacher. You will get past the accent as he really wants everyone to pass. Take him, easy tests.
Good teacher. Tests are easy and straightforward, the homework is light, and he knows what he's talking about. He also has an amusing personality and mannerisms that make him a fun professor to have.
This guy is a horrible teacher. However, he is, at least, not a megalomaniac. His tests are fair, and the homework represents his tests. Also he tells you exactly what is going to be on the test the lecture be for the test, so you know exactly what to study. Otherwise, be prepared to teach yourself EVERYTHING!
Such a great professor, I rediscovered my passion for math in his lectures. He poses some questions to his students every now and then and they are all very inspiring and helpful. He makes great connections between the knowledge, which makes you understand them so deeply. Be active in his lecture, he appreciates it a lot.Love this prof!
Terrible classes
Very slow at lecturing. Tests are extremely easy. If you are looking for a class that you don't have to learn much to do well in, this class is for you.
Lectures are extremely slow. My problem for the fall semester with him was I ALWAYS fell asleep during his lectures because they were so slow. By my second semester I learned to stay awake (caffeine injection) and found that his lectures weren't completely useless. Fortunately, tests are usually limited to the easiest types of homework problems.
Lectures were extremely slow, was hard to stay awake. The professor is a really nice person and knowledgable, but I feel he doesn't know how to express himslef, really needs public speaking courses..repeats himself a lot, speaks so low you can barely hear him and is very slow..but his tests are very easy and its not a very stressful class wth him
Dr. Prikry is excellent at presenting difficult mathematical topics in a clear manner. My one criticism is that he tends to move a bit slowly in class, but better to move too slowly than too quickly! He's very helpful during his office hours and asks very reasonable test questions.
I think this professor is excellent. He encourages classroom participation and discussion, which makes the class more interesting. His attitude is very helpful. He is obviously really knowledgeable, but can talk to students of any level. Going to his office hours is helpful too.
Professor Prikry is a great professor. He's always willing to work with his students to ensure that they understand the material well, hands the notes out before lecture, and he's always willing to answer any questions that you might have. His exams are very easy and you only need to know the basic concepts of the material. Highly recommended. :)
Great guy, not quite as good a teacher. His accent makes him a little hard to understand, but his explanations are clear enough, especially when accompanied with the notes he provides to the students. He is very approachable and is willing to help with questions.
I'm 87% sure that Karel Prikry is from Translyvania and that he is nosferatu. He is an adorable old man and is entertaining to listen to... when you can understand him, and are actually awake. I counted at least 79 umms in lecture one day. Yikes. Not so much a good teacher, I pretty much relied on my TA for the class, but I still appreciate Prikels
Professor Prikry was a good professor. His tests were always easier than the homework, and he gave out a review packet for each test so you would know exactly what would be on the test. His lectures were slow and hard to stay awake in, but he always had lecture notes which was helpful. His accent is also a little hard to understand, but not too bad
Show up to class and approach Dr. Prikry 1-1 with any questions, you should do well. He is very clear about concepts & materials. I have gone to his office hours & he is very nice & pleasant. He is clear & precise concerning any questions that are asked. He cares about whether or not students are understanding the material. Highly recommended!
Had Prikry for Calc I - IV. He's a nice guy. Exams are straight forward. Homework isn't that bad. He hands out handwritten lecture notes sometimes which was nice. Lectures aren't too exciting. Also Prikry is an awkward person so sometimes I find him funny.
Professor Prikry is a very nice, adorable man, especially if you get to know him better. Good sense of humor too, helpful, sometimes a little disorganized. Class is not easy, but this is Calc 2. Do all the work and you'll be fine. BUT: Had Rosemary Phelps for TA, terrible attitude!
From my experience, an adequate professor. As is typical with math courses, you don't need to attend lectures, but you will most likely get left behind without. He was very informative for the 2nd and 3rd midterms (most people did poorly on the first) which helped a lot. Hopefully you don't get Ms. Phelps as a T.A.
Professor Prikry is an excellent professor. He's very friendly, presents the material clearly and he really cares as to whether or not his students understand the material he's presenting. If you go in and ask for help, he will literally sit there for hours helping you until you understand. Don't worry about having class with this prof - he's great
I had Prikry for Honors calculus I,II. I was worried that 1572H would be harder because it would be all new material, but Prikry did a great job keeping everyone on pace. Discussion sections are incredibly helpful is the TA is good. Use the book for a different take on things. Lectures are dull, but tests are straight from homeworks and reveiws.
He actually cares about his students and how they do. He is always willing to help and is willing take advice from students to make the class better, which is really refreshing. Although he is really nice, I did not really like the testing style. The multiple choice questions were killer because they were worth such a large portion the test!
Professor Prikry is a great professor if you can get by his not-too-great public speaking skills and somewhat strong accent. The class didn't do incredibly well on the first test of the semester, but the class average ended up being almost a 90%. Prikry works hard to make sure that his students understand the material thoroughly before tests.
Professor Prikry is a pretty good teacher. He can sometimes get off topic, but for the most part his lectures are pretty clear. His tests are extremely easy. He'll basically tell you exactly what will be on the test. It's really impossible to do bad in this class. He'spretty generous about grades too.
Yes, the lectures are boring. Yes, Prikry's grasp of the English language is actually fairly strong, despite what you might think on the first day. Yes, the tests are incredibly easy if you do all the homework. Yes, Prikry will do everything in his capacity to help you understand the material. No, he's not as bad as some haters make him out to be.
Karel Prikry is a great professor! I really hated math going into this class and now I can stand it a little bit. He is good about letting us know what he expects us to know on the tests and is very accessible for office hours. Calc 2 is supposed to be a very hard class but this was easily my favorite math class I have ever taken.
Tells you pretty much exactly what's going to be on the exams, and they're pretty easy if you do the homework and go over notes beforehand. He hands out notes which correspond with each of his lectures and they're extremely helpful if you take the time to look through them. They're a good substitute for the useless textbook. Awesome TA, too.
Professor Prikry is a great professor. Our TA, Nathan Gray, was also an amazing TA. Like the person before me said, Professor Prikry hands out the lecture notes, which really helps the students understand the assignments. During discussion, Nathan went over actual problems from the book, which also really helped.
What can I say about Karel, man's a genius. Prikry's Trickries will keep you on your toes whilst blowing your mind. He will always say hello no matter when you had him in class and turn around and smile to make sure you understand the calculus. Ummm...a lot. He hands out awesome notes and is always willing to help, even if you can't understand him
Pretty good.
Teaches material clearly and is extremely clear on what material will be on the test. Knew everyone's name in the class and was always willing to help. One of the best Profs I've encountered in the math dept at the U.
Professor Prikry is the easiest grader that I have ever encountered. He also makes tests so easy that you really don't have to study. For those who are looking to get something out of the class. This class is not for you. Not a good teacher. If you want an easy A, and to be finished with what ever math course you are taking. This guy is for you.
He is not helpful at all in lecture. He super confusing! I completely stopped going to lecture because it takes him the whole class period to do one problem. Exams are ridiculously easy, so if you want an easy A take this class but prepare to teach yourself the material. That's what I did!
He is such a kind professor. His class is interesting and easy. He'd like to help his students after class.
Very nice professor. He will always smile to you whenever you come across him on compus. And the handwritten lecture notes and every week homework assignments are very good resources for study and prepare for the tests. The exams are similar to the homework assignments.
Very professor. He practically gives you the test a few days before for preparation for the actual test. Expect high averages.
He really knows his stuff. The handwritten notes he hands out in class are very helpful, and the exams are very similar to the homework assignments and the notes, so there aren't ever really any surprises.
He has explained that he prides himself on making next-to impossible tests. The tests are on nothing that we learned in lecture and/or discussion. The avergage score on our tests is a 40% and my discussion had the highest averages. If you're going to take CALC2, STAY AWAY FROM PRIKRY!
His accent is cute, but his teaching is no fun. He always tests you on materials that we were supposed to master for previous exam..
Unfair tests, covers material used for previous exams, and does not include much from what was requested to be studied. Tricky multiple choice questions can ruin your grade. DO NOT TAKE PRIKRY.
Lectures are basically impossible to listen to. Normally I go to my classes but I skipped most of his lectures. However, I would recommend him as a professor only because of his handwritten notes. He emails them to everyone after class and they are VERY worth reading. The main thing I disliked about him is that he makes you turn in homework weekly.
Pro. Prikry can be hard to follow when lecturing, but his notes are very, VERY thorough and helpful. He actually copied and passed out his hand-written notes, and they were full of helpful examples and information. He is an interesting professor - he will call you out in the middle of the class if you are caught writing past the exam end time.
Professor Prikry is passionate about teaching. He's willing to go out of his way to help you understand the material. He cares about his students and what they think of him. His passion motivated me to do the best I could. He's super nice and friendly too. He has a sharp memory and will remember your face. He still remembers me !
He gives out 20 page of lecture notes each class printed which are very helpful. Tests and quizzes are incredibly easy, he tells you which problems to study. He said in the first weeks of class that you don't need to pay attention in lecture, and you really don't as you'll just want to get his notes. Can ramble a bit while talking to the baord
As a lecturer, he can be a little hard to understand and tends to ramble, however his notes are very helpful and his tests are very easy if you do the homework. He's obviously very brilliant, he just has some trouble getting his point across.
Note packets are a gift from god. If you want a class where you can do well without attending lecture or understanding the material, this class is for you! Midterms are identical to hw problems and therefore easy As. Would recommend studying for final though as it accounts for about 50% of the grade and is harder than the midterms.
If you take Prikry, just grab his notes and read them on your own. Don't even bother trying to understand his lecture; it's not gonna help. This is a class where you're going to have to teach yourself. Tests are fairly easy though.
Karel in an interesting professor. He's clearly smart and cares about the subject a lot, and very willing to help if you need it. He also gave us a list of study questions for the tests, which made the course quite easy. However, he is a little confusing in lecture.
The biggest advantage to Professor Prikry's class has to be his lecture notes that he posts online. In fact, I liked them better than the textbook because they provided better examples and insight into some of the techniques needed to solve the more difficult problems. The class is hard, but it's not really his fault, just the course curriculum.
Hand writes notes and works out solutions. Can be a little dull in lecture and go off on crazy tangents. Quizzes and tests are almost identical to HW and practice problems. Just a nice old man trying to teach people the ways of the calculus.
This is such a difficult course and although Prikry is so sweet he's not the clearest. He emails notes that help but his exams are extremely difficult. Calc is very hard though so difficulty is common no matter the professor.
Prof Prikry was a little confusing to follow in lecture but his notes are helpful. Also, the quizzes and tests are straight up based off of the homework. So if you want a good grade but don't want to sit through confusing lectures use Slader to see how to do the homework. Seriously you will get a good grade if you do and understand the homework
A typical Prikry lecture: About 13% of the class is in attendance. Often, he lectures this 13% about his disappointment in the other 87%. He turns off all the lights and beams his handwritten notes up on the wall in the dark. The last thing he said on the last day of lecture: "Alright, I did what I can. I'm sure it was not satisfactory."
Professor Prikry is a great instructor! His class strengthened my understanding of calculus. He sends out clear detailed hand written notes which he goes over during lecture. He also provides several practice exams and quizzes, which are very similar to the assessments. If you understand those and the homework, you will receive a good grade.
He gave out the lecture notes, so it is really easy to review after the class. During the lecture he went through a lot of examples, and that helped me with the homework and prepare for the exam. Generally speaking, it was relatively easier compared to other 5xxx level classes. The material was interesting. I'm glad I took it.
Upbeat professor who was very approachable & practical. It has been a while since I've had a good teacher for a math class and after being taught by Prof. Prikry, truly fallen in love with math again. Although, math isn't my strong subject and I still think it's a bit of a challenge I now hve a new understanding and love for math. Amazing prof!
He sent out written notes which was great but he didn't usually explain things by actually doing math questions. He has a style of teaching that is very different from a lot of math courses. He is approachable and willing to help but the help didn't even help me much at all. Spent too much time going over things that we should (& did) already know
Lectures are almost pointless to go to. Do all the homework, go to all the discussions, and find a couple people to study with in the class. Tutors can be harder to use because some of the material has to be done the "long way" without using shortcuts learned in different classes. Also, the class is curved fairly heavily, got a B at around 70%
The class is interesting. Prof. Prikry taught the class thoughtfully and has always been helpful in office hour. The great thing about this class was he always wrote detailed notes, picked the typical questions for every section and elaborated them clearly. He is nice and humorous and certainly put al its of effort on preparing the class.
Math is not my strong subject but Prof. Prikry explained the materials clearly. The examples that he goes through during the lecture were especially helpful! His handwritten notes helped me understand the concepts that textbook didn't clearly explain. I enjoyed taking his classes!
Calculus is by no means an easy course, but the professor really tries to help students. He literally writes out and sends the lecture notes to everyone and holds a lot of office hours. If you put in the effort, you'll do well.
The difficulty level might have changed since I took this class, but in fall 2014 the class was extremely easy. Prikry handwrote notes for every lecture, and most people went to grab the notes and then left. The tests and quizzes were directly from the homework. Prikry is self-depracating, makes jokes on accident, and is quite unforgettable.
I also took 2373H with Prikry. Feedback for that class obviously made him feel the need to ramp up the difficulty, though the class was still a relative breeze compared to other professors. Weekly homework and meaningless lectures, but he started taking attendance due to dismal attendance in 2373H. Still your best option for honors calculus.
A great mathematician! A very inspirational lecturer! He motivated me to take up graduate studies in mathematics. His handouts and homework assignments supplementing the (hard to read) textbook greatly improved my understanding of the subject. His exams were very reasonable. If you study well and do homework sincerely you will get a good grade.
Disjointed and hard to follow lectures. Class attendance dwindled to around 10% as most people felt the lectures did not help with learning the material what so ever. He would become very angry when the class did poorly, 40% averages on exams reflect more poorly on him than the class (in my opinion)
He is an amazing lecturer. He handed out a lot his notes to help student understand textbook, because the textbook is very hard to read. Also, he gave students detailed solutions for every homework and exam. This class is very easy. As long as you are able to do homework (or just remember homework solutions he gave), you will get an A.
He can bumble a bit, to the point you might first assume he's maybe a little special... however you'll ask him a question and it'll seem like he had an hour to craft the perfect response. Then he'll randomly get excited during lecture about some minor math eureka moment (freaking hilarious). Homework fairly light, tests easy if you study.
Professor Prikry definitely is a very nice prof and his lecture is very clear. For MATH4152, he typed out all of the notes he made every lecture to explain knowledge in the book better and clearer since textbook is very hard to read. You can get good grade if you go to the lecture and study the notes. And he is willing to answer your questions.
He is a very good professor, and he handed out his notes every class, which is useful for me to understand. He also gives me detailed explanation when I went to his office hour. Moreover, his test is closely related to his lecture and notes. As long as you are hard-working, you can get A.
Puts a lot of effort into writing his own notes, which are very well written and are probably the most helpful source for understanding the material, more so than the textbook. Homework and tests are fair and without surprises: with the homework directly based on the notes and the tests often directly based on the homework.
He handed out handwritten lecture notes for every class, which were extremely well-written and easy to understand. Tests were straight forward and similar to homework problems. This class is an easy A if you study, and there's not too much homework. Great guy.
This professor went at a slow enough pace during lecture to ensure that the students understood the material well. I enjoyed the funny pictures that he would post to make lecture more enjoyable, specifically the many types of washers. At times the powerpoints were a little hard to follow. Discussion attendance was very important.
Karel is a really nice old guy. Maybe a little bit senile, but makes some mild attempts at humor now and again. The homework and tests are the most straightforward Ive seen of all the classes Ive taken. He hand writes super clear lecture notes with examples and tells you exactly what will be on each test. Teaches process, not understanding
This is my third time with Prikry so I understand how he works. Go to class to pick up his massive but helpful note packets and sit on your computer the entire lecture. Homework is every other week and other than reading the note packets on your own time there's very little effort involved. Study the solutions and you'll do fine on the exams.
Professor Prikry is the nicest professor I have met. He handed out the note in every class. Although I also get A in Math 2243, sometimes I just remember those formulas and not quite understand. Professor Prikry's explanation is very detailed and logic, which helps me fully understand the knowledge, and it would be helpful for my following study.
This was the third course I took with Professor Prikry. This course is the very useful for logic, and a lot of students in CS major take this course. As usual, professor hands out notes every lecture, and if you don't really understand some specific thing, just go to his office hour. He will explain every specific until you really understand!
My first time studied with him. Really lovely professor, I want to take another class with him since these two classes are equivalent so I must switch to another class. He prepared lots of notes for students and much more clearly than textbook. So good professor!
This a professor who truly cares about his students, and does a great job of explaining the subject matter to the class. His lectures are very interactive which makes lectures worth attending.
If you want to learn a lot a lot about linear algebra and have a great understanding of the concepts, might not be the best professor. Class was very easy and focused more on understanding how to solve individual problems rather than overall concepts. If you don't care about learning a lot and just want a good grade with the basics, he's your guy
Prof. Karel is one of the most motivated faculty I hav e met so far, His passion for teaching and hard work makes the course extremely interesting. He makes sure that the students understand the concepts and is extremely helpful. He is very reasonable in grading and makes sure that the all his class students does well. I am very fortunate.
Don't get me wrong, Karel is a terrible, terrible lecturer. He spent like the entire first month trying to define one theorem. However, he gives out great handwritten notes that have everything you need to know. Also, tests/hw are predictable (ex. he told us all the questions on the final). The class itself isn't very hard or interesting.
He is very nice, just go to the class you be fine.
He assigns an insane amount of homework. We have been assigned homework every class for the past two weeks. They are all very easy and repetitive and mostly busy work. He tells you what will be on the exams, but grades them very harshly. There are only two or three questions and they're not too difficult, but if you get one wrong you fail...
Great professor clear Notes
Prof Prikry is not a great professor; he is really un-approachable and sometimes straight up mean/rude to kids who ask questions in class. Lectures are pretty much pointless but you go to pick up the notes packet which shows you how to do the homeworks. Bottom line, this prof is not great or nice, but the class is really easy so I'd recommend.
What a great caring professor! My words cannot express how much I appreciated him, who is really dedicated to teaching. His notes have helped us gain a better understanding of the course materials and more interest in linear algebra in a strategic way. I would recommend you taking his course whenever you can.
Professor Prikry is the best professor I have ever met. He cares about everyone and if you ask him questions he will explain it very with detail. He is a peaceful, cultivated gentleman.
Professor Prikry is definitely one of the best professors here at the U. He goes through the important concepts clearly and slow enough so you can surely understand them. The notes he hands out are prefect and enjoyable to read. Proofs are not required for his class but I would recommend you to read it on the book to consolidate your understanding.
Truly one of the best math professors at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Replies to emails in a timely manner (usually less than an hour). Holds office hours in a spacious room. He is very approachable. His hand written notes explain complex topics in a simple and precise manner. I would highly recommend taking any thought course by him.
Karel gave very clear notes that help with the homework. It is clear what he expects from students and pretty much tells you exactly what's on the exams. He is very nice during office hours. There is homework every day but it's easy to do since his notes outline exactly what to do.
Quirky professor. He shows you how to do everything in class and in his notes, and tells you what will be on the exams. Hardly any proofs; doesn't teach theory. If you go to his office hours he'll like you and remember your name. He won't get through all the material in lecture but just read his notes and you'll be fine.
Professor Prikry's notes that he gives out every day really make your grade. I learned a lot just from these notes and during classes he goes over through the notes handed out for the day, and there is usually daily homework based on the notes that he hands out which is due the next class period. Assignments were straightforward, and so were exams.
Professor Prikry is the best professor I've had at the U of M. He is very approachable and has a great sense of humor!
If you are registered to take MATH4242 with anyone other did Professor Prikry you are making a big mistake. He keeps his students well informed via Email. He holds his office hours in the TA/Graduate student lounge, so you will not have to worry about getting a chair. By far the most approachable professor I have had at my three years at UMN!
Professor Prikry is like a nice grandpa. He teaches you how to solve problems hand by hand and he likes students who are active in answering questions. He will also gave out exam credits to those students. His notes are a lot sometimes disorganized. but all you need is his notes, exams reflect homework.
Really easy to pass the class. He basically just gives you daily homework assignments with a packet of notes attached. Usually the notes walk you through the homework completely. Told us exactly what was going to be on the midterms and exams. That being said, his lectures were very dry and tangential for most of the time.
Super nice prof- Karel is funny in the most unexpected way, and teaches the material at a nice, slow pace. Homework is assigned nearly every lecture but its short and sweet and really close to what you find on the exams. His expectations were clear and he wants his students to succeed. Would recommend!!!
He is by far my favorite professor. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but you won't get the note packets which tell you how to do the homework. He tells you exactly what will be on exams. I went to office hours a few times and he was always super nice and helpful. He was understanding about a family emergency that affected a few assignments.
He is hilarious - his humor helps one get through the lectures that he admits can be dry at times. While lectures can be a bit repetitive and slow, he goes over exactly what you need to complete the homework. He is also very willing to help students for an hour after lecture, during his office hours, and over email.
Prikry isn't the best speaker. He mumbles, stutters, and has a thick accent making it difficult to understand what he's saying. He has his lecture notes done before class, however, I don't think he looks at them beforehand. He is petty about people not coming to class. Homework is a mixture of submitting on gradescope and turning in hard copies
His lectures were very hard to follow, slurring and talking to himself, you could hardly hear him, and the handwriting on the PPT was so scribbled that it was hard to make out. The grading scale for the midterm is very strict, just do one wrong and your grade for the class will be terrible. It is impossible to take his class again in the future.
He spent more time whining about how people don't show up than he did teaching content. On our last day, he tried to get people to talk by bribing participation points (participation or attendance aren't required). He also threatened to put certain content on the exams and not tell people who don't show up to class, but he never followed through.
I took 4242 and 5165 with Prikry, and his lectures are BAD. He talks very quietly, doesn't know how to use technology, and is difficult to understand. He also berates anyone who doesn't show up. Still, he does provide templates for homework and tests, so it is easy to get an A in the class solely through reading his notes/templates.
he does all assignments on paper. he says he collects everything on paper only, but i sent him many pdf emails and it was fine lol. all his assignments and midterms were very easy, he basically goes over the exams in class lecture before... he just complains a lot and calls on people often, so just be aware of that.
Homework is turned in on paper and he gets upset in the lecture if nobody participates, but the class is super easy and other than occasionally frustration he's a nice guy. Tests are open to any paper notes, and he usually goes over what problems will be on the exam the few lectures before. Not super exciting, but easy for the credit.
2 midterms and final exam. The two midterms were alot like the homework, the final had some questions that weren't on the review but were a mix of questions we have done before. Easy homework where he shows you how to do everything. I hated coming in on a Friday and turning in homework, we are in the big 2025... Other Linalg professors are hard..
