I'm almost finished with this class and I can tell you that she's a super cool helpful teacher. Just do the homework, show up to class and participate in the dicussions. She's an easy A if you just do the work. I recommend her highly for 101.

Easy A class. Go to class everyday on time and do your homework. 3 Essays and the first two you can correct your mistakes and re-turn it in for a higher grade. Study guide for Mid-term and Final. Take it!

Not an easy but not a hard class. The discussions were interesting although I do have to say they were a bit bias.(I guess it is college so what do I expect) I do have to say the books we read were interesting though.

She is so good that she inspire me to write and read more books. She taught me that writing is like painting colors in words.

Ms. Tompkins is professional,intelligent, and kind-hearted. You can tell she is very passionate about teaching. She comes to class with such enthusiasm to teach. I don't know how she does it. I've observed her tolerance with annoying students and she still handles them with grace. Please do not take advantage of her niceness. We need more of her.

She is a nice teacher, if you ask her questions she will try and answer them all. Very tough grader Midterm is tough not many people will receive an A. Most homework assignments come from R4W and take the time to read them and understand them, because your alone on your comprehension.

She's a really nice person. I had her for my first semester and I enjoyed having her as my professor. She assigns work almost every time you see her but it's easy to do. You'll really enjoy "Ten Little Indians" and the stuff she makes you read. Her essays were a drag but that's the only complaint I can make about the course.

Great professor who really cares. You do learn from her. Only con is that the class was a workload in my opinion. Short quiz every class, reading analyses, and a few essays as well as a research paper. Not tough to pass if you put in the effort.

Professor Tompkins is the BEST!! She understands that not every student is going to be great writer and because of that she grades easy. She is clear about all assignments/grading and is very organized. And if you need help she is THERE FOR YOU. Overall she is an incredible and kind person and an amazing professor.

Ms. Amano-Tompkins was a great Professor. I had a great experience with her and she has a big heart. Prepare to read a LOT, take (easy) quizzes every single class, and to work for your grade. Maximum of 3 absences allowed or you will be dropped. Don't let that scare you. She is very fair and a wonderful teacher that I wish there were more of.

her workload can be heavy, but if you are willing to read and put work into it, you can pass. it isnt a tricky or complicated course, just a reading filled one!

Ms. Tompkins is an AMAZING English 101 and 102 professor. I took her classes back to back because I fell in love with English 101. She makes reading and her lectures interesting. She is passionate about teaching and it's reflected in her lectures. I highly recommend Ms. Tompkins! If you are willing to put in extra time you will do great in both!

Great professor. She will help you if you are having trouble on something. She makes you do two presentations but they are extremely easy and if youre one of the first two groups that go up shell give you extra credit. You will be needing the seagull book, youll use it almost everyday. I wouldnt suggest buying or renting the Compact Reader

This is literally my favorite teacher at harbor. Very easy, understandable, and a great professor. Her work just reading. Complete all the essays; She is a very easy grader, if you don't pass her class, it's your fault. I've taken her for English 28 & 101 and ill be taking her again for 102.

By far, she is the best professor I have taken at Harbor. Not one class was boring. There is a good amount of reading, along with group presentations every other week. By the end of the semester, the class felt like a family. Work hard and you will have a great time. She truly is one of the most inspirational professors I've encountered.

She makes you read a lot of books and you have a 2- 4 question quiz every single class and you write a LOT of papers and presentations and does a lot of group work so have a friend in the class! But she is super nice and cares and grades fairly its just a lot of work!

Great professor! She is very clear and thorough with how she wants her assignments to be completed. As long as you put in the work and spend time doing the assignments and reading, you should get a good grade in the class. Answers emails fairly quickly and is accessible outside of class.

I took this professor for both 101 and 102. Both times I got an A in her classes. She makes papers understandable and clearly tells us what she wants in them. She does give a lot of extra credit. It is a lot of work, including essays, analysis, and reading, but nothing that is impossible to do.

One of the better professors I've taken. All of her lectures were super engaging and time would really pass by within our classes. This class was no cake-walk by any means, you'll have to work for that A, but she'll offer good feedback and help you become a better writer along the way. She also had really cool stories to share within lectures.

Mini quizzes everyday the current book the class is reading. A couple of essays and one big paper but she tells you exactly what she wants in them and helps you make an outline for each topic. Grades fair. Pay attention to her lectures and yoiu should pass with an A.

She lets you know what she wants for every assignment. Most of the reading can be found online, but you will need to buy at least 2-3 books. She's very detail-oriented and likes to explain things in-depth. She's understanding accepts late work and gives extra credit. Fairly easy class, it's just a lot of homework. Amazing instructor. I took her 6-week English 101 class over the summer and was very pleased. Overall, Mrs. Amano-Tompkins is very easy to get along with and is extremely nice to all of her students. Her grading is average, no easier or harder to pass than any other teacher, but what gives her a leg up is how clear and concise her grading scale is!

Theres a lot of work to be done but nothing that is too crazy. I took her class during summer and she was great! No textbook exactly but there are two books you will need for her class. Her syllabus is amazing! It has all the work and due dates! I printed it and check marked as I finished.

Professor Tompkins is the kind of professor that you find and never forget, she helped me succeed in her class even though I had a lot of things going on in my personal life. I loved this professor. The class was simple and the classes were always interesting in some way. The homework was easy and took actual effort. Prof. Amano-Thompkins was honestly my favorite and most memorable teacher. Took her class during quarantine in 2020 and even though her class was pretty work-heavy, as long as you did it, you passed. She always wanted the best for her students and always responded to emails with questions and concerns. Overall, an amazing professor.

I took this class because of the mass amounts of good reviews, and I will say that this class is MUCH HARDER than it is made out to be. The professor is GREAT and is very understanding about late work, but this class is A LOT OF WORK especially during the 5 week summer session. I'm pretty sure I wrote over 15,000 words. Great teacher, hard class!

Probably one of the best English professors I have had. I took her English 215 class this previous winter session and I loved it. Yes, the workload is a lot but it is a one month class that is accelerated so no one should really be surprised. Her feedback on her essays she assigns to us really helps as well.

This teacher is probably one of the best teachers you'll have. No, seriously, if you have a busy schedule and sometimes can't get deadlines done, she is very reasonable and will still offer full credit. 2 books you'll read in class. Just ensure you stay on your reading and not fall behind, and you'll be good, I promise.

It feels like a lot of work because there's something due every class plus a quiz, but as long as you stay on top of it, you'll be fine. We had two essays plus a research paper that takes up most of the points, and both the midterm and final are essays as well. Just make sure you're doing everything as soon as you can and you'll be fine

Professor Amani-Tompkins was one of my toughest classes this semester. She gives a ton of reading assignments mixed in with a couple of essays throughout the semester. As long as you do all the work and follow along you can definitely get an A.

She is honestly one of the best professors here at LAHC. she cares so much for her student and is extremely accommodating to late work and such. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for her, thank you professor for this wonderful semester and i wish you all the good in this world. thank you for making English C1000 the best.

Excellent Professor. Challenging but also lenient. Willing to work with students who struggle. It's a lot of work but the work is useful to keep sharp. Also enjoyed the assignments she had us read as well as the books she selected.
