She speaks in big words that don't really mean anything. She was okay... not my favourite.
she is very open to creative thinking. She is helpful if you ask for help. She may appear a little overwhelmed but she isnt really. I would take another course with her, she made the material interesting.

DO NOT go to lectures, waste of time...she posts everything on the net..speaks very monotone and dry..if ur looking for an easy pass and u don't mind writing short essays take this course! again, NEVER go to lectures, notes aren't necessary!
She is ok, I like her lectures on contrary to what other ppl say.
Shes a good prof, though tends to focus on the talkitive people. She has made my couse so much easier for me, and I like how she explains things. Shes a great prof, and I would take another course with her.
well she gave 2 exam questions a week prior and flipped a coin in class to see which one we would write. 4 very short 4 page essays during hte year, but very easy. she made the course so much easier then any other intro sociology course.
Take this course w/ Karen. It is very informative and interesting. You talk about anything from males being able to give birth to R. Descartes philosophy. I attended all lectures and we got to watch many movies.
Interesting class...interesting subjects. Not enough life in her lectures, but the info. and movies are interesting.
Only went to in class exams and 4 lectures. Overall its a easy course. All you really need is her online notes. She keeps on talking about irrelavent things, but overall she is pretty easy. Easy B.
the course isnt hard.. Karen Anderson can take control and deliver a good lecture when she wants, but most of the time she seems a little overwhelmed. overall, the course was interesting and I'd recommend it to first years.
Karen seems to have this reputation for being really brilliant and creative...but she isn't. If you want to be challenged, don't bother taking a course from her.
Her lectures were extremely dull and she never seemed focused. She tries to get the students involved by taking question, but that tactic backfires when your teaching a class with over 100 students. Her textbook is hard to follow too.
I really thought that karen introduced us to significant topics and readings in the field of sociology. I know many 2-4th year students who are covering material I did in Karen's first year course. I enjoyed the lectures and the text very much aswell.
she is brilliant as a teacher. encourages students to use their imagination and dosnt get anal about disciplinary expectations. sees bridges crossing all boarders
I must say that she has an extremely boring teaching approach. It seems like she is unable to keep the interest of the students.I also found that she attempts to make the course harder than it should be,considering it's a first year intro course. e.g. ridiculous method used for multiple choice ques.

i think Anderson is a biased feminist that doesnt seem to understand her own text book. she is a disgrace to this university. I hope we will find a replacement soon.
she is a really easy prof and her assignments are really easy and actually kinda fun. If you attend the tutorials you can an A for sure.
Boring is the word of the day for this class. Anderson seems to be a bit flakey and confused most of the time, and all she does is read off the computer. You don't really need to go to class, just get the online notes. The assignments are a waste of time and seem childish for a University course.

Shes an alright teacher. you dont really need to go to class though cause all she does is read off the net. its all in the lecture notes. her assignments are easy but her tests are ridiculous. (brutal multipal choices) over all-- great first year course
AMAZING prof. Very sweet, enthusiastic, organized, available to help, makes students comfortable. Lectures & assignments clear. Makes class interesting. Tells you what to expect on the exam so there are no surprises and anyone who tries will do great. Notes on website and explained well in lecture.
Karen is such a super lady! she values your opinion and pushes the box further did u know it is theoretically possible for men to carry babies. too bad she will not be teaching the course next year she's too preoccupied studied why the attitudes of younsters towards school has changed so much. if u think shes a space case just give her a chance

Her teaching style is very well thought out. I would really recommended to other students interested in sociology, and there is actually a possiblity to do very well in this class as long as you read the lecture notes for the test. Overall a great course for first year students
People either seem to love her or hate her. If you want to take an easy course, in which you get to watch movies, take it. She's a bit spacey, paces and doesn't seem to know what she's talking about a lot of the time. I don't feel like I learned much of anything. If you're planning on majoring in soc, you might want to try someone else out.
the best example of one of the flakiest profs I have ever encountered. She would be everywhere with her material, yet nowhere at the same time as she never made sense in her lecturing. She always seemed to be terrified of her students, as if she was to be attacked at any moment. FLAKE OF THE YEAR!
Her multiple choice tests are ridiculous!! Overall easy class..great for first year students
Look, the problem isn't with Karen Anderson it's with the monkeys taking her course. She's wonderfully versed and knowledged on a variety of topics. If you're truly interested in the subject matter, take her course.

She's speaks clearly and uses relatable examples...and come on don't complain when we get to watch a movie almost EVERY lecture..its pretty good and my TA ROCKS (Phil)take the course and learn a little...

This class is amazing. Its really great. The readings are difficult but class discussion helps clarify them. Karen is very nice and approachable and helpful. I definately defiantely recommend this course.

Karen is nice, but the readings are not well thought off..the interesting ones are not so important and the boring ones she dwells on forever...her notes do not really relate to the subject we discuss, but her TA Andrew is amazing, he gives summaries of readings which makes life better! Also the weighing of assignments is wrong!Not a very bad prof!
Anderson's ok I guess. The lectures are SO DAMN long and she's kinda mean. She TRIES to make it a learning process but I havent really learned anything. The learning is basically in tutorial. Dr. Dawson - hard TA!!!But he's a pretty nice man.Overall,you'd find this class boring if you don't learn to like it by yourself!!!
She'd be decent if she actually showed up. doesn't appear to be dedicated in the slightest to teach...She's missed 4 lectures already this semester
She is wonderful and the T.A's are great! If your taking soci Anderson is number one! Any the person who says she never shows up... well it is because she was very ill and advised bed rest.

worst prof I have ever had! Another example of a york sociology prof entrapping students in their leftist post-modern "activist" nightmares. it may have been a good class because of she never taught anything, resorting to videos and discussions about "feelings". Next time I want to take a course about nothing, I will take a course with anderson!
Anderson was testing out a new teaching method, I suggest she not use students as guinepigs and solidify her methods before-hand. Course was interesting despite its lack of organization. Would CONSIDER taking a course with her again. TONS of piddly assignements but, I'd learned a lot from doing them. Dawson (TA) is horrid: even more unorganised.
No need to, attend her class, she reads everything right off moodle the TA'S are awesome! and the assignments are SO easy, if you follow the instructions everything is outlined for you, you just need to take the time to read it, if you do youll do WELL. :) overall she really just wants her students to do well!
She was a great prof. Very organized and class is so clear and assignments are so easy. She gives a lot of assignments but they are all very easy!! The exams are very easy too, you read an article and answer questions. Also she very understanding and nice. The TA Peter Dawson is the best TA ever at York!!!

Lectures r boring but other than tat everything is good. She gives a lot of mini-assignment which is 45% of final grade n u can get the full mark easily. Textbooks u dont really need but u need to read them to write those minis. The best part it is 6 credits n very light/relaxing class. Two term papers (alot guideslines givem), no exams/midterms.
Awesome Prof! Very approachable and open-minded. Hope she doesn't retire anytime soon!

Very approachable prof...lectures were made interesting through group activities and videos. Notes posted on-line, don't need the book. Fun lectures....I would recommend this class for those who need a fairly workable 6 cred.
Anderson's a great prof. 1010 is definitely a bird course - all lectures and assignments online, easy readings and NO EXAMS!. Got a B+ with VERY LITTLE effort what so ever. She's very engaging and can turn what would be a very boring lecture into something interesting. If you're planning on taking an Intro to SOCI course, take it with Anderson.

Take socio 1010 with Karen Anderson!! Her assignments are very straight forward! I ended with an A+! She has both Take Home and Multiple Chice exams which are both super easy!

Great Professor. She covers the basics and her exams are soo easy as well as her assignments! She babbles but you still end up with a great mark if you do your assignments and exams. Highly recommended!
Karen is one the best professor Iâ??ve had. Here lectures are very clear and straight to the point. Everything she teaches is based on today society so, itâ??s easier to understand. Everyone is bound to get an A+ in her class. Nadia is the best TA.
Took her online course. Very monotone lectures. Readings are so long and boring, but the discussions are very easy to participate in. No final exam, but a "final" paper is at the end.
I loved Sociology before this course. She is very unorganized&has a lot of problems with technology that take up big chunks of the lectures. Her assignments are easy but weird-I only enjoyed the two major ones. Its definitely an easy A but I didnt learn anything from her-my ta taught me everything new and interesting. =/
Karen Anderson presents the concepts in simple easy to follow ways using visuals, relevant videos, and interactive class activities which are actually fun! If you are a visual learner, get bored easily, and hates dry lectures with professors who put you to sleep, take Anderson's courses!

Professor Anderson is pretty cool and relaxed. All her exams are take-home and they are pretty interesting and straight-forward.
If you are good in writing essays id recommend u to take this course. all take home no exams. anyway i thought material was soo boring. and its not really an easy A as many say. i got a B+ after hardwork. it may be an easy course but not an easy A. Don't take it unless u r deeply intersted in soci because classes were really boring
This course is online and consists of essays throughout the year and a final paper at the end. For a 4th year class the readings aren't too bad. The material is interesting and the essays you have to write are also interesting. I actually enjoyed this class. Her lectures online are helpful for the papers so make sure to watch those.
She is so rude in person and so not understanding. We had about 6 different TA's during the period of the course and one of our TA's messed up our marking and when we emailed her in regards to that all she said was you can appeal it if you want to. So rude and not kind or compassionate even when its their mistake. Ugh never again will I see her.
Easy class, simple exams & assignments. However, I do not like Prof. Anderson's lecture style. I normally attend all my classes and pay attention but this one, I was never able to pay attention. Her voice is so monotone & she had no mic, so do the math. Honestly, read the textbook and her slides (she will post them) and you should easily get an A.
The course was not that hard, 2 assignment was very easy. The 5 exam was quite hard, you have 5 chapter to learn and there are only 3 question ( worth 50% of overall mark). Getting even one wrong can significantly decrease your overall mark. These question were really specific, so making stuff up won't give you any marks. Also, she is boring.
She's an amazing prof that is extremely passionate about what she does. She is really helpful, understanding, and wants you to succeed. She always is willing to explain things to you if you need more clarification, will talk to you after class, and always is happy to answer any questions you have. I will love to have her again! One of my fav prof!!
The prof is great, she can sometimes be little boring but she always incorporates fun examples/exercises into her lecture. The content for this course is super interesting... but the testing not so much. 6 short answer questions and a choice between 2 essay questions.
Professor Anderson is a good person but a mediocre prof. She has a nice personality but her lecture style is sub-par. She pretty much reads off the slides and doesn't add in any of her own thoughts or opinions. With that being said, just gaze over the slides at home and do the textbook reading and you will be more than fine.
Professor Anderson's lectures are basically straight from the textbook readings (which she is the author of) but it is still beneficial to read the text. There are 4 exams which you will do well on if you study and two assignments, one in each term. It is clear that Professor Anderson genuinely wants her students to do well in the class.

DO NOT take her online class. I have taken her SOCI 1010, which was completely fine. However, online she is very unclear about what she expects for her assignments and will not give you the time of day when she is receiving/giving you feedback.
I had her online and she was wonderful! She answers emails if you have any questions and her rubrics are really straightforward so if you do your readings you should have no problem getting a good grade. Would definitely take again
Professor Anderson is very efficient and is a good teacher. Though the class was fully online, she was accessible at all times for students and the assignments and exams were straightforward and had fair marking.
Great prof, I didn't really listen to her lectures and the assignments are a bit confusing and heavy but manageable. It really depends on your TA since I had no interaction with her, but she was so kind to bump my grade for me without me even asking. I did feel that I learned a lot from her
I do not really have much to say about the prof since the course was remote and I did not interact with her. However, she posted on time and instructions were clear. Also, Keefer was a great TA. He is hilarious, easily accessible and provides good feedback.
