One of the worst professors I've ever had. Takes simple ideas and complicates them beyond any sense of understanding. She goes way beyond the scope of the course material, rambles on a lot, and the exam questions were filled with all kinds of errors. If you are taking ECON1000, do not take it with this professor.
The definition of an awful professor...
Lectures are confusing, all over the place, and conflicting with the textbook. Her definitions are not even related to those present in the textbook or to those used by other profs for the course. Her exams don't make any sense at all and students in her sections get unfairly difficult, confusing, and inaccurate exams compared to other sections.
Literally a GPA killer...
Avoid Karen and switch out if its not too late. This professor over complicates everything, her midterms have nothing to do with the textbook! Overall terrible experience and would not wish it on anybody. Not only are her exams hard, they are filled with mistakes! This course was the worst decision please dont take it with Karen.
AVOID THIS PROF!!!! Her lectures have nothing to do with the textbook, her exams are extremely hard and have many and I mean MANY mistakes (about 5-8 for a 30 question exam). She doesnt not follow any structure in her lectures and is just a horrible prof!!!! Avoid her at all cost!!
Avoid this professor. Could not explain concepts in a way that we could understand. Believe me, it's not just me, but talking to many students, they felt the same way. Often times, she would make me more confused than I already was. Her tests are much more difficult than the practise tests given as a resource for studying.
She does not use the textbook for the exams, she brings in her own definitions and adds chapters that other sections are not required to do. She makes her exams way harder than they have to be, and her lectures are unbearable and useless.
Avoid her. Thought it would be ok but she proved me wrong.
The worst proffesor I've had thus far. She over complicates every concept and her midterms and exams are different than the rest of the department. Her miderms have 80% of the class failing, and she teaches in the worst way. I hate bashing on teachers but she absoloutely ruined my semester. Please switch out if you get her.
I ended up skipping all my classes and teaching myself from the textbook. She rambles in class and her slides are hard to understand. She makes concepts more difficult than they are. Avoid taking her if you can... Her tests were difficult, and most questions didnt make sense.
No matter how hard you study for your exams, you still can easily get failed on her course. I rarely comment on professors and their lectures because I hate doing that. But she just makes the course much more complicated with messy and unstructured sildes when it's supposed to be easy.
this prof disregarded the textbook basically and i attended PASS sessions just to at least pass because I wasn't trying to sit and listen to her voice for 3 hours. it was odd tho bc she made us to group tests during the midterm. she wanted everyone to pass but she over complicates it for no reason
She has a lot of experience teaching economics elsewhere so her terminology is different than that of every other professor. She is also big on giving out trick questions; every test I took just felt like a series of traps. I got an A+ but my grade was definitely much lower before the bell curve.
She makes it hard to understand the topics and never goea to thw math of the theorems. Most of the year you have to self-study. You wont pass if you dont study a lot by your self, the prof wont hwlp at all
Terrible on everything lol
Doesnt teach and expects you to read everything with no foundation basis and spends 90% of class time doing quizzes on content that hasnt been taught
passionate professor , but assumes student have previous knowledge that they may not have. Got a better grade because of in class quizzes with infinite attempts in that class and online final exam with partial credits.
Cant understand while so many students gave her a negative rating. Shes giving you a feedback all the time and she is definitely doing her job by heart. There are so many professors who do not care about their students and what they are teaching. She is different. If you ask your questions you can make a serious progress in her courses.
She is a tough grader, and Econ 1000 already isn't the easiest of courses. That being said Prof. Walker knows her stuff, and seems to care about her students as she also makes her own powerpoints and takes time to answer questions in class. Need to study alot for the tests, and keep up with the online quizzes. I'm pretty sure she bell curves.
For me, I need a lecture especially for a MATH class. I can't understand by only reading the textbook. This professor won't teach anything you need to figure out by yourself.
This prof is very unorganized, and complicates things beyond necessary. I have never experienced a more disorganized teacher in all my education.
This professor has the worst schedule. Both the exam and the usual classes are completely different from his syllabus. Delays in testing are common. In my semester, he will show half of the course content in the last month. In the case of many errors in the question, at least 90% of the correct rate must be achieved before the next step.
Poor lectures and thinks everybody should just magically understand the material. Loves to test on material she hasn't taught or went into debth about. Sometimes her tests feel like shes pushing for students to be confused and do bad.
She's nice, but.... you can be the most organized person and still find yourself wanting to rip your hair from your scalp with this course. She hardly responds to emails. She tests you on material that she hasn't taught. She never follows the syllabus dates. She randomly disappears for weeks. The stress made me want to die. Save yourself.
Loved her course.
Even if a lot of students won't recommend her course I do. I learned so much and she gave great feedback which pushes your learning process.
Decided spontaneously to join her course and learned so much.
She definitely makes you work for good grades but shes so caring and gives great feedback if you ask for it.
I would recommend her course, even though she grades tough.
Please steer clear of taking a course with this prof. She picks and chooses what emails to respond to. Any course announcements are told to us by other classmates that were lucky enough to get a reply back from her. She does not update the course website or post lectures until after the test its intended for. It has put my GPA in a very bad state.
Great!
Make sure to learn by yourself. Even though it isnt that usual I enjoyed it.
Great.
Easiest course I have had. She is clear and says what she expects.
Are you on York's visual schedule builder checking if this professor is any good? This is your sign, do not take this professor for anything. Most unorganized professor I have ever seen. She is the worst combination of lazy and incompetent mixed into 1 person.
One of the best classes Ive ever had.
Loved her lectures.
I don't understand some of the recent positive ratings on here. Although she is nice, she does not communicate. I sent her a handful of emails throughout the semester and she never responded. The course started in JANUARY and the UPD extended it to AUGUST because of HER lack of instruction. Exasperated, I opted to complete it with another prof.
She is a nice person but she extended the class for extra 4 month. If you have time and you just want to pass the class you can take her but I am telling you she won't finish the class on time. For example if your final supposed to be in April, she won't do it until late may or the end of the summer but you will pass her class for sure.
USE THIS AS YOUR WARNING NEVER TO TAKE THIS PROF FOR ANYTHING. During my experience in econ1530 this professor, has the worst communicating skills ever, the question forums are a ghost town. She never updates grades in class. The material taught is not even close to the tests. She expects you to magically understand the math to the highest level.
THE ABSOLUTE WORST PROF THERE IS STAY CLEARRRR!!!!! Words cannot describe how horrible she is. Throughout this course, I had so many issues with this prof it's insane. There is no communication, no replies to your emails, lack of caring for students. It feels as if the prof has gone on a vacation in the middle of the course. Never got a mark update
We have live lectures for 50 minutes every week on Zoom. Beginning of the class she takes 15-20 minutes to respond questions that you can find the answers on the EClass. After that, she does not even read and answer our questions related to the lecture material. She does not finish the slides and exercises. She completes halfway and time runs out.
The class has ended December 2021. Its February 2022 and I have still not received my grade yet. Avoid this course at all cost. She wont follow the course outline which is given by herself. Never expect a follow up email, NEVER. Ill be graduating this May, but thanks to my outdated and ungraded course I dont even know if thats happening.
She is alright as a professor, she is generally helpful and knows what she's talking about.
I have no idea why people hate her so much. She literally takes less than an hour to respond to my emails and are always motivated in her lectures. She gives out a lot of work and moves quite quickly but the only reason yall don't understand anything is because every single lecture theres
This is my elective, I didn't spend much time on this course. Make sure you are actually studying the videos and slides. Her tutorial is NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.
Never ever take her as a professor like you wont know whats going on and whats she teaching, the question answer area is a ghost town the worst experience anyone can get. dont go for her no matter what
ECON1530 was very tough with this prof. Harder exams than other sections, really bad communication about grades and deadlines, and unclear explanations of math concepts that the course requires you to know. Your best bet is to switch sections, or to just practice from textbooks or worksheets from PASS sessions for at least a few hours a week.
I didn't receive my midterm grades and weekly quiz results until the final exam, she often disappears, emails to her don't get a reply
utterly the worst math prof, in fact just the worst in existence. floods us with graded quizzes and useless graded activities, doesn't lecture when you go to class, she just has questions on the board that she expects you to solve. puts you into groups and walks around asking people if they have question.
To be honest, her tutorial doesn't help at all. You have to spend a lot of time watching lecture videos, taking quizzes, and participation in Iclickers to pass because the tests are SUPER SUPER hard! You will be tested more than what you learned.
I actually don't appreciate this professor at all because of the tough grading criteria. Her exams are actually pretty challenging. I really need the course for my major otherwise I would never have taken this course. It is understandable that APECON1000 requires work but her teaching style, grading and the exams made it even more challenging.
Very good professor. Lectures were very informative and interesting. I would heavily recommend taking her.
The lecture provided no teaching but rather was always started with questions no one could answer and afterwards provided limited teaching with small amounts of student engagement.
nobody really knows whats going on in her class. assigns everyone a bunch of equations to solve in class with no lecture. lots of homework too. dont make the same mistake as me. pick a different prof for this course.
she won't teach us useful things, just divide us into groups with some cards, what she said in class has no relation to the test, and she will leave so much homework for us. very awful, avoid her at all costs.
If you came here to just to get an A+ or even pass, go for any other professor. If you came here to genuinely understand economics and it's applications, she's the smartest person for that. She cares about you ALOT, but you need to show that you are struggling with something. She's very different for sure, and not the easiest ever.
I would suggest not taking her at all. The lectures are incredibly awful and uninteresting. First two hours she just splits students into the group of 3, gives a bunch of question and that's it. Without holding the lecture first. Too much work on the eclass and if you want to pass with a good grade, never ever take her.
She did not have a course website set till the very end. Did not follow her own course outline for marking. The final exam was set extremely poorly. Did not consider any work for midterm even after I followed the instructions she set up herself. DO NOT TAKE THE COURSE WITH HER.
Amazing prof I enjoyed her lectures. She is very sweet and approachable. But you have to put in so many hours of work. There are weekly discussion forums and quizzes. Her final was long and challenging so My recommendation for anyone planning to take the course is to take your time and try to get as many points as possible for the online activities.
she is a good professor. you should put so much effort into the material and class.
was nervous going into her classes due to her ratings here but she's turned out to be much better than the other professors i have who had perfect ratings. very sweet, attentive to students, and explains things well. certainly not enough time for tests, but that seems like a course issue rather than a prof issue. make sure to participate!
too much to fit in 350 characters. trust me, I wish I read the 1-star before I took her. She is the worst prof I encountered in york
Good prof and a pretty easy class
Luckily I was able to drop this class but I wish I read the 1 stars about her before I took her. they all ended up being true, everyone I know who stayed suffered so much, and there were multiple complaints about her to the dean. Of course, they don't help either! Trust me save your time, money, and mental health. TAKE IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE!!
Hard course, for suuuree compared to other professors. But she's honestly really nice and if you try hard and she sees that, you will do okay.
Bernhardt-Walther is a very old fashioned professor, her lectures aren't that amusing. She's also a very hard marker as well as having immensely hard tests, would not recommended her.
Her tutorials are really interesting. She makes sure everyone understands what is being said. Everything is good if the students put effort. Final exam was hard, but the tests and quizzes were good. If you have any questions, she is more than happy to help (really).
she failed me with a 32%, took the course with a better prof that actually teaches, passed with a 76%. Do not waste your hard earned money with this prof. Spoke to the dean multiple times about her along with my peers, they still did not help. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Very nice class!
I don't have lectures with her, only online tutorials, where she is a bit slow but the material isn't very difficult and she covers it quite well, also taking time to answer questions so that everyone understands.
I ended up having her this term due to scheduling. I was a bit worried because of her low rating, but honestly she wasn't bad at all. ECON 1000/1010 are basically online, self directed courses. She went over some of the tougher concepts during tutorial and answered any questions. I'm limited on characters but these courses have a terrible layout.
Great explanations
Prof doesnt really matter for Econ 1000 cause its the same material for every section. Overall she is an amazing person and was also quick to respond to the questions we had outside of the class.
NOT A NORMAL LECTURE CLASS. Grade is based off quizzes, assignments, and notes. The assignments are marked strictly and you have to resubmit (multiple) until you pass. Quizzes require 80% to pass. Prof only uses discord no emails. Prof doesn't answer questions you have properly and leaves a lot up to you to figure out. No midterm, only a final.
The exams were hard, especially the final, where our section wasn't even allowed to use calculators—but I still got an A. She recognized effort more than just correct answers, which made a big difference.
she has her own rules and have to respect it and take class seriously. totally recommend her even though she failed me due to assignment submission on another class but still recommend her to all students . she makes you to be a better student. great prof but have to work hard too. take notes and note and notes.
SHE DOESNT CHECK HER EMAILS AT ALL!
MORE THAN half of THE STUDENTS DROPPED BEFORE the FIRST MIDTERM. SHE IS REALLY CARING BUT WOULD RATHER A DIFFERENT SECTION.
The tests were hard in my opinion. I don't know if tests were just pulled from course hero or from a random source but I felt like the training I got from the lectures or in class material didn't really help me complete the exam in the best way I wanted to.
Had her for a tutorial, helpful and always answered my questions
