AWWWWWWESOME!! i love her, she works with you one on one, and gives you advice, ask's very little of work to be done, tests are easy.. shes just awesome highly recommend!!
No nonsense simple approach. Creative in the use of colored markers for notes, her artwork handouts of the human body. great sense of humor. Deducts points for lateness, but gives extra credit for blood donors and sports participation, but She is nobody's fool, expects u to do your assignments.

I also had her for Pilates (couldn't fit both in the line). She is SO MUCH FUN, and is SO into being there for her students. She is one of the best and most inspiring teachers I've ever had. She is totally dedicated to teaching her students and knows her stuff. She's an all-around awesome person.

She is a very nice woman who was very good at teaching yoga. However, she didn't express the importance of a daily log, but other than that, she was cool with me.

Overall good professor. She is very strict with attendence and lateness (kicked one poor dude out two weeks before the class was over because he was late for three times) so you must stay on top of it. textbook only helps with the final but if u still want one please e-mail me.
anal retentive in regards to coming 1-2 minutes late. i have no tolerance for people like that.
She keeps you movin'. She is highly motivated and she will get you motivated too. Be on time and try not to be absent. She is very understanding for legitimate problems. She give extra credit for community service.

Karen ROCKS! So personable and funny. She's motivating and wants to see effort, even if you can't do eveything she wants. Lots of opportunity for extra credit. Don't abuse latenesses -- it's rude to be late anyway.
She works your butt off in yoga. I lost 30 pounds that semester. I would take her again just for fun if I had the time!

Karen is GREAT PE teacher. I took her Yoga class and I fell in Love with it because she was such a loving, caring, thoughtful teacher. If you get her as a teacher for PE you will love every second of her teaching you. She makes you work very hard and it pays off in the end. What a great teacher.
This is one of the best professors at Suffolk. She not ony teaches you about yoga, she teaches you discipline and to have respect for yourself and others. Punctuality is important but you want want to miss a minute anyway. She is funny, smart, beautiful and spiritual. How lucky I feel to have taken her for yoga and now pilates. What a joy!

Took her 2x. She is beautiful lady with a spirtual way about her. She expects your best effort. Lateness is not accepted - just like the real world. The 2 papers are due on time. It's college folks - get with the program.

She's very rude. I was originally very interested in the course, because I enjoy yoga. I don't like this class. Yoga is meant to be a relaxing experience, but I don't feel comfortable in her class. She's hilarious. She requires 2 abstracts on yoga fusion and there are 2 exams, written and phyical. With tons of extra credit available. I'd take any class she taught.

Excellent class. Excellent prof. She is very fair and understanding. She has no tolerance for lazy entitled college kids who think they can do whatever they want. She makes her students accountable.....preparing them for life outside of college

Karen is an excellent professor and yoga instructor shes xtremely strict on attendance and she means it when she says if u r more than 5 min late dont even bother showing up bc she rly won't let u in but she is very fair and if your enthusiastic and participate in the class u'll do well she has a great sense of humor and really makes her class fun!

Did not like this teacher at all. I took her for a yoga class because I love yoga and we hardly did any yoga. Made us hike through woods that were infested with ticks for 2 weeks at the end of the semester. Everyone was coming out with 2-3 ticks on them and she did not see it as a problem! I was not happy in this class in the slightest.
I loved her! She has a sassy mouth & isnt afraid to call you out on anything. She will get you into shape & remind you summer (bathing suit weather) is only **days away. She is very strict with attendance so DONT be late she WONT let you in! If your looking to lose weight and get a great work out take her if your looking to just get by she isnt it.
I am taking Professor Carlson this semester, and I think that she is expecting too much for a one credit course; you have to be able to be in a certain level of fitness, and write two abstracts. If you don't mind doing a lot of work for gym class then take her, if not then don't.
She is very strict; especially about attendance. Very rude, rough and likes to scream. I wouldn't take her class unless you have a natural ability at whatever the class is about b/c if you don't then chances are you'll fail or barely get away with a "D" or at best a "C".
She has endless energy and she really pushes you to be a better human being. She's very strict and believes if shes their so are you. But she is very fair and if you have a past Injury she will work with you to treat the injury and work towards better health Amazing Professor

She expects you to be there an to put forth effort,in other words, she expects you t behave like a college student.As an oer student I can appreciate that.although not important she is VERY hot, which dosent hurt!!!
No doubt about it you will have to earn your grade. At times she will frustrate the heck out of you and other times you will want to give her a big hug.
Several months have gone by since I took this class and just how wonderful it was is sinking in. Any professor who would recite the Desiderata is top notch in my book. Karen is a delightful human being and I loved this class even if she forced me to use parts of my body I didn't think existed.

Karen is awesome, but tough. She made parts of me hurt that I didn't know could hurt. I got nice buns because of this class and I can touch my toes! This was a summer yoga class and I look forward to taking her pilates class :) We did need to buy a novel and read it for the final, but it was easy and there was bonus points.
Karen taught me so much about nutrition and Pilates. You must be on time, and only use your absences when you really need to. She is so funny and down to earth. You do need to buy a book but its a quick read. She offers a lot of extra credit. You will wor khard for your grade but I would do it all again because she's awesome.

Professor Carlson is wonderful. She is animated, energetic, encouraging and knowledgeable. She is very strict with punctuality, so aim to arrive early. My class, Yoga, required some paperwork, but it was enjoyable to research and write about the topics. You can tell she wants to bring a deeper understanding to the students.

Gives a lot of writing assignments for a gym class, if you literally 1minute late she will be on you. you can be doing everything she asks you but she has no tolarence for lateness.
Love Karen, she gives a ton of extra credit so if you fail, you're stupid. Each extra credit is worth 2 points each and some are worth 10 points. Don't be late, simple as that. It's college. There's no reason why you should be late and expect the professor to be ok with it. I do admit, it's a bit much for a 1 credit class. But she genuinely cares.
I loved Professor Carlson. She teaches the class not just how to spin, but also about your health and nutrition habits. She really makes you work out. If you're looking to fly by during a gym class by not doing anything, she's not the professor for you. Gives a lot of extra credit and let's you make up classes. Would take her class again for sure.

There are two assignments the 1st is an easy 10 ques the 2nd one she grades harsh n does not really explain it well so read sylabus! Dont be late! She has 0 tolerance for it and she will say something to you in front of the class. But she's cool.
Show up and do the short reflection papers and get an A. Carlson is very funny and I enjoyed hiking class with her. Possibly my favorite course taken yet. After the second hike, you'll have no problem getting up to do it. I'd take it just for fun. Car pooling was great too - saved gas and met new friends.
Professor Carlson is AWESOME. Super tough, will make you feel like you're in a boot camp. Don't be late, turn in your assignments ahead of time, participate in class and do AS MANY extra credits as you can every week and you'll get a perfect 100. She was a wonderful professor!
Taking Karen's yoga class was one of the best decisions I've made. I now practice yoga in my own home, and it's become a part of my daily regimen. She is a wonderful professor. Very serious but wise and really makes you think. As long as you show up on time every class and put in your best effort you will get an A.

First things first you're only allowed one absence- period and if you show up a minute late (I'm being serious) you're considered late and two lateness equals an absence. After 1 absence you'll be asked to withdraw from the course of receive an F. If you take her hiking class leave an hour early because the directions will get you lost
She is a tough professor but, I have to say that I would take another class with her because I lost weight in her Spinning class. She gives you two quizzes online which are easy, you have to do two workouts for her which is easy, but her final is pretty hard. She does give a lot of extra credit

Super funny professor and doesn't take BS from anybody, let alone her students. Yoga felt a little like a boot camp; she's tough and really makes you work for it, but for good reason. Does NOT tolerate absences/lateness. There is both a written and physical test at the end. Neither were a bad as she made it out to be, but you must prepare for them.
Great Professor! She is very strict with attendance, and has no tolerance for tardiness. I just took Yoga and Pilates over the summer and it was refreshing to learn so much, she's very free spirited and always has funny stories to tell. She's also very spiritual and it makes the entire learning experience great.
I enjoyed taking her classes. I had her for both Yoga and Pilates. She does not tolerate lateness and absences. You have to put in effort, if she thinks you should be able to do it then she'll push you until you do. The only problem I had with her is she made it seem like I failed both classes when I was nowhere near doing so. She's funny though
Really found a passion for yoga in this class and I really liked how she pushed you but didn't make you feel bad if you couldn't do every single move full out. If you take her make sure you study for the online quizzes because they aren't the easiest thing! It could make or break your A.

She is a terrible teacher. There is a policy that a teacher has 15 minutes to get to class or the students can leave but if a student had an emergency and get to class 3 minutes late she will throw them out of class and count them as absent. I think this is not fair.

Okay, so if you're looking for an easy one credit gym class, DO NOT take one with this professor. She actually gives written finals, and makes you study the whole human body and this was for my pilates class. It was like taking anatomy 101. Yeah, she makes you do a lot of work so I would not recommend taking her unless you want a tough gym class.

She is so funny and cares about health, and is really passionate about her job. She talks to you as if you were her friend and makes the gym classes really entertaining.
She seems scary on first impression but she is a good-hearted and funny person. I took her for yoga but it wasn't an easy A - you have to show up and do her work. Had to read 1 100 page book for the final which is the only test. Gives extra credit. She has the best stories to go along with the discussion part of class.
Professor Carlson is amazing. I have taken two physical education courses with her. She is very strict, but she cares about her students. Be ready to workout, do not be late for her class, and do every assignment if you want to get a good grade. She is a tough grader, but you will not regret taking this class. You'll get the grade that you deserve.
Professor Carlson is my favorite professor. I took yoga and hiking with her. She has a great sense of humor and she makes physical education so much fun. Plus, she's so easy to talk to. She has a strict policy when it comes to attendance and lateness though. As long as you show up and wear the proper attire, you'll pass.
I signed up for this class when it was on-campus. It was changed to online, and it's the most frustrating class I've ever taken. The way you have to edit and time-lapse these videos is ridiculous. A majority of my time spent in this class is trying to edit my videos to her crazy standards. If I wasn't graduating Dec I'd drop out. She's too tough.
Where are these good reviews coming from..... most irritating teacher since grade school. She purposely looks out to take make this class way harder than it needs to be. I firmly believe she does not want her students to get an A here.
I would rate her a 0 if they let me. Rude and not willing to help or compromise with students who are having a hard time. AVOID this professor at all costs. Even if its the only available gym class left in the semester, you're a lot better off just waiting until next semester and getting a different professor. WORST teacher I've ever had.
She treats it like an English class. Gives weekly tests on readings and words questions in a way that's designed to fail students. Requires blackboard submissions to be submitted in a way that leaves no room for questions. Will not clear wrongfully submitted work and will give you a 0 for it. I have more work in this class than my Biology class.
Absolutely horrible. Gives tons of assignments for a 1 credit yoga class. She's unwilling to help students. Demands blackboard submissions "in ALL 3 locations, or no points will be earned" (upload document, written submission, and comments section). Leaves no room for real comments. Only responds to specifically formatted emails if she wants to.
I hated everything about taking her class. She assigned homework on the first day of our thanksgiving break and made it due at the end of it. She must believe that her class is the most important thing in the world because that's how she runs it. She also started the class 1 month into the semester so I was unable to drop it or switch! Never again.
She started class a month in making it impossible to drop out or switch classes. She treats the 1 credit gym class as a 3 credit English/History class. Then on thanksgiving break assigns a quiz, a written assignment, yoga 3 different yoga poses, and an extra credit assignment that takes 3 days to complete.

The worst professor I have encountered throughout my whole life in school. She is rude, harsh, not at all understanding, and it seems like she wants her students to fail. I am a straight A-B student and received my first C in her class, even with all of my homework turned in. Truly a weird and miserable person. Should NOT be a teacher.

A lot of work for a 1 credit class. She seemed cold and rude but we wound up having a nice little conversation at the end of semester and I grew a respect for her. Every week there was an assignment and sometimes the videos were over 30 minutes. the extra credits were available every week but they were so repetitive.

Professor was rude in emails, she makes you feel like you're dumb. A LOT of work for 1 credit class. Requires you to submit assignments in THREE different areas. Very bizzare experience to be honest. If you have another choice of a professor choose a different one! I got an A and I still reccomend choosing someone else.
Good Professor. She cares about her students success, but as a student you have to do your part. She is very serious about time, attendance, and participation. If you are looking for an easy PE course to slide by in, this isn't the class for you. I started the intro swimming class with no experience. I am now able to swim on the deep end.

Reviews made me question taking her class, but I had to take it since it was the only one opened. I don't think the work is as had as people say. All you need to do is read a handout & article which takes 10-15min to finish, & to participate in the exercises each week. The quizzes are easy if you read & do the exercises. Not a heavy workload.
I took this class to fulfill an easy PE requirement. Make sure you read and understand the syllabus that she posts at the start. The expectations, work, and grading criteria are clearly laid out. Each week, she assigns videos to watch, questions to answer for 1-2 articles, which are due 1 week after. It is not true that she assigns too much work.
Awful class, and a demanding and rude teacher. It was supposed to be easy and fun turned into a nightmare. We had to send her the HW in different ways each time. A lot of reading, videos, hard exams, and tough grades.didn't accept late HW even if it was a couple of minutes. It was a very boring, hard & annoying class. Because of her I now hate yoga
Professor Carlson is avenge and try to work with her students as longest you always on time. If you walk in at lease 2 minutes late, she will mark you absent. She only allows 2 absences, and then she will kick you out of the class. I would think twice before I take her again.
She probably is great in her "in person" classes, but not for online Assignments were obnoxious and not necessary I assumed the assignments would consist of me videoing and attempting different yoga movements, but instead, all she had us do was read the history of yoga and answer quizzes / tests on what we watched and read Take in person class
So rude. Don't take her. She's a joke of a professor who has some type of weird power trip over being a gym teacher at Suffolk.
The class is hard, but she isn't. She assigns just enough hw to give those who suck at gym a chance. You get two chances on t/f tests; if you get a t/f wrong 2xs, that's on you. Picks amazing trails. You'll love LI when you're done.
Her reviews are very harsh, she is a good professor and has a lot of knowledge about exercising and the human body. Her class is difficult ONLY if you have barely ever exercised in your life. She gives a fair amount of homework for a two credit class and gives extra credit every single week. She's also extremely funny. Bring an energy drink.
The class has a decent workload, but if you stay on top of the weekly readings and videos, you can get a good grade. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for quick quiz prep.
Great professor, took her in person and online. She does give a lot of work but it's so easy, you have no reason to complain. She is very strict on attendance and submitting work on time. She will not open assignments back up for you to do if you missed the due date but it's fair cause she gives you a week to do it, super easy.
Took yoga with Professor Carlson online this semester and enjoyed it. Provides weekly readings and informative videos that tie into the weekly assignments. Extra credits are given weekly, and she grades accordingly with the syllabus. Great class!
Dont take this course thinking its going to be a literal walk in the park! It starts out small and easy, but further into the semester, the trail gets bigger and the pace picks up. We had a student pass out on us on towards the end and almost hit her head on a rock. However, Come prepared and it will be an amazing experience, and you'll love it.
the 1st 2 classes she came off really intimidating but if you show up on time & try, you'll get a good grade. she definitely cares about punctuality. at first i was annoyed i had to take an athletic class, but i really enjoyed it. i am not at all flexible and was able to do basically everything. IMO she gives a perfect amount of feedback on poses
Took yoga fusion in person class. She was kinda funny. But be ready to sweat. Some of the stuff she teaches is difficult yes. But if you show that you are trying you will be fine. Carlson knows a lot about the human body and yes she does give a lot of extra credit. But if you just show up and try your best getting an A+ is easy.
She's a great professor. Tough but very encouraging and motivational. Gives a lot of extra credit. Test is exactly the documents in brightspace.
I took this class coming off an injury from a car accident. She was always mindful of showing different ways to do things to help if you were struggling. If you show us and try you should do just fine in the class. She is always accessible and reads the most inspirational quotes from books. She is very knowledgeable and wants to see you succeed.
