it was an online class all essays for tests, open note, and book, she also gave a couple days to complete essays. pretty good class to take
One of the most awesome and enthusiastic professors I have ever had!!! I learned so much and had a great time as well!!
She is very enthusiastic and a wonderful professor. I've learned A LOT and I really enjoyed the class thanks to her!
One of the best science classes ever. She is so enthusiastic and into what she teaches that she makes learning fun. I had a great time going and picking fossils and all the other great things we did that summer 2002
The main reason I didn't like cercone was because she allowed peopled who did poorly on 1 exam to retake it. I ended up with a very high B, and would have liked to retake one of my exams. The bad students got rewarded in this case. Very boring subject too
This class was GREAT the lab was fun, and you actually did things you would do in the classroom. Shes a great prof.very exciting and enthusiastic
its a high level geos course and shes very enthusiastic teacher
The best professor ever!
Web class was great. Next time I would get the CD so I could listen to lectures in my car. Learned a lot... Thanks
Very enthusiastic and helpful in any way she can be. Wonderful woman!
Online goes was great. You gotta take that class! Not a lot of actual work with it
She says that your attendance grade is optional, but in reality she will grade all your other projects more severely if you don't go to class, especially the lab projects. It's kind of subjective anyway, so that's how she gets you. Go to class, even if it's soooooooooo boring to hear about her dogs.
She is one of the best professors I've had! She makes sure you understand the material and answers any questions you have. She gives examples of how to present the material to young children which helped me a lot. Her tests may be challenging, but if you study you will do well.
She is such a nice person and is always willing to help! She is also great at telling you how to explain difficult concepts to young children. Of all my eled science courses, she is the only teacher who helped us know how we could actually teach the information we learned! Take her!!
Easy Class. Labs are great, nothing like the chem labs we had to take! Dr. Cercone is willing to help and very nice. The class was overall a good class especially compared to our other sciences.
Easy way to eliminate science requirements.
very easy make sure you go to class attendance quizzes are 5pts a piece. tests are fairly easy and all multiple choice.
Take her! She is very clear and thorough in her explanations, and always offers help. She lets you use your lab notes on quizzes and exams. Just make sure you go to class.
I wouldn't recommend taking her for the online class. It seems like she grades the essays arbitrarily because you have little personal interaction with her and are not very privy to what she wants.I would say that this class was much less time consuming online than it would be in the classroom but I learned a lot less than I would in a classroom.
You only have to go to the first 10 minutes of class. Don't stay for the lecture bc nothing she ever says is on the test anyways. If I ever stayed for lecture it's only bc there was a fine lookin brotha sittin in front of me. Her dogs arecute but her teaching style isn't.
class was overall a fairly easy course...teacher is good with the material she teaches and puts the powerpoints up online after the lecture...tests/quizzes come right off them..offers opportunites at a lot of extra credit..cant complain about her...decent prof. overall
attendance is grade, but ur allowed to miss 3. I wold not recommend it because you will miss herlarge amounts of notes. She gives good exaples. Lab consists of three projects. You will not be in lab for longer than 45 min even tho it is 2 hours long
She's really interested in what she teaches. Makes it easier by relating things you would know to things she teaches in class.
I loved her! shes really a great teacher. she always had great powerpoints and I really learned a lot in her class. She uses webct and has grades posted very quickly. she was always very willing to help. if i had to find something bad about her the only thing i can think of is that she has a really annoying voice.
Nice lady, but you get the feeling that she thinks we are all idiots. She tries to relate every concept to some sort of elementary everday occurance. Gives lots of notes but shows lots of beautiful and amazing pictures. She is really dedicated to geology, but she makes it fun. The tests tend to be a little hard. She also loves her very cute dogs.
Great class! She broke it down so you could understand and there wasn't so much info then gave you the powerpts to study off of.Also she was very enthusiastic and gave you all kinds of great ideas about how to teach these lessons to children and actually use this material.I really appreciated that, simple things you can do in the class.
Extremely sweet and helpful lady!! Makes you laugh and really shows an interest in her students as well as the subject matter. Labs are just the students teaching and being graded on your work. Exams are tough but if you study you can make it through it. Would take her again
Dr. C. is a wonderful women. Very sweet and very helpful and understanding. Classes are maditory, but she offers bonus labs in case you have to miss a class or lab. (The bonus labs are really interesting and fun!) Her tests are kind of on the tough side, but if you study the material, you'll be fine. She is very passionate about her dogs.
A very good prof for teaching such large classes.
She's not bad as a teacher. I had her for the intro GEOS class (Dynamic Earth). P.S. She has got one of the sexiest high-pitched voices I have ever heard.
Very enthusiastic and knows her stuff. I learned alot. Very interesting material. Powerpoint notes, if you miss you can get notes during office hours. Very nice, loves her dogs! Book optional, I didn't need it to get an A.
Good teacher, she actually made rocks interesting. It's a really easy class, no homework, and only a few tests. Easy class to fill half of the science requirement.
Must attend class. If you do it is an easy A! No book required. Just take notes on the powerpoint or print them of line for the weekly quiz.
Best teacher ever...so many extra credit opportunities. you'd be stupid not to take her class, you can sit in your dorm room and watch class.
This women is so sweet!!! Explains material very well, and gives enough participation and extra credit opportunities so that even if you do poorly on exams, you should get a decent grade. I almost changed my major to Geoscience because of her.
Would not let me make up sick days when I had a note from the health center and the hospital. May fail purely because of those absences. All efforts to explain this situation and reason with her were met with a condescending attitude and complete impatience. Sometimes teachers have to interact with students. Sorry lady.
Complete jerk. SO nice and sweet in class. Super excited and enthusiastic about the material. Go to her after class or email her and her true colors show. So rude, so condescending, no help at all. Hypes up how cool moodle is but blames you when it crashes. Completely unreasonable.
Whoever said they are about to fail because of just a few absenses is crazy. i probably missed ten classes and still had an A. she gives 150 points for class participation and 150 for weekend assignments. anything over that 300 is considered extra credit! didnt learn a thing, but it wasnt too shabby taking the class from my bedroom at 10am.
I had her for Dynamic Earth and she was really nice. She tries to be hip and she uses this thing that puts her on speaker and lets us log in and see it online even when we can't or don't want to come to class. It's unnecessary to buy the book imo. She's really into it and loves to interact with her students. Nice lady, I'd recommend her.
Dr. C is absolutely great. She does everything through moodle - you don't even have to go to class, just go through the virtual classroom. She gives you so many opportunities to earn points, and her quizzes, etc aren't very hard. She uses lots of easy to remember analogies and does everything she can to help you.
Dr. C is very good at explainin concepts and relating to students. She really does whatever she can to help you understand the material and pass the class. She's great!
Great Professor, you can take every class from your computers using the virtual classroom. Loves what she does making her class interesting. Supplies resources to get an easy A
I took her class expecting to be able to take it online from the comfort of my own home, for her to change her curiculum and no longer off her class that way (she referred to us as the "controll" group). Lectures are super long and dry, inclass points are easy, but the exam will kick your ass.
She is a great teacher, and lecture is really interesting, even for non-majors. There is two tests a mideterm and a final, which are easy, unless you have never attended class and refused to look over the ppts. She also curves grades so if you come out of the class failing, you're lazy, plan and simple.
She is a great teacher, and lecture is really interesting, even for non-majors. There is two tests a mideterm and a final, which are easy, unless you have never attended class and refused to look over the ppts. She also curves grades so if you come out of the class failing, you're lazy, plain and simple.
Dr. Cercone is such a nice teacher! Tests are lengthy, but if you study the study guides you should be fine. She makes every class interesting and ties in real life situations to help you and kids understand better. So nice, always helpful, and very cheerful! Definitely take her.
Dr. Cercone is awesome. I had her for geoscience and she was extremely enthusiastic and helpful. The class was actually very interesting and there were moodle posts for easy points and her tests weren't that hard. I would take her again. Great class and easy assignments gotta love dr.cercone.
Cercone loves her job. She is so enthusiastic and is very understanding. She is a great person and professor. At times, she can be so hyper and crazy its annoying. Her tests are hard and long. Her notes don't really help with the tests, but they help you better understand the concepts. She's nice but sometimes too energetic.
I'm a major and have gotten to know all of the professors in this small department. None of the professors are easy and they shouldn't be. You're in college, classes should be challenging but manageable. Dr. Cercone loves what she does and is very enthusiastic about it. Very cheery, nice woman and is a great teacher. Highly recommended
She's really nice and makes it very difficult to fail with all of the bonus and top hap questions. You use your cellphone a lot in this class as well.
Great professor, class is interesting. She has you answer questions during class for attendence points by using your cell phone or computer. Very nice and very willing to help in any way.
This is a very easy course. She uses tophat questions for participation points. She'll post a quesiton for a limited amount of time during class which you can use your phone to answer. She also gives a lot of bonus, but the bonus only goes towards your participation grade and cant exceed 100% so the bonus doesnt really help bump up your grade.
great professor!!!!! uses tophat, easy questions for class participation points, and very easy to understand. she lays everything out for you. shes a true teacher, and seems to love to teach the students, no matter what the subject is.
Dr.Cercone is a very straight forward traditional teacher. Uses TopHat monocle for class participation which is actually very helpful. 4 exams, all easy if you pay attention and study! Good professor!
I am a senior at IUP and just finished Dr Cs class. She was an absolute angel. She wants nothing more than every student to pass and will help them do so however possible. Tons of possibilities for points. Uses TopHat for attendance which I loved - was able to answer the attendance ?s even when I wasnt in class (via tophat website) HIGHLY SUGGEST!
Attendance is mandatory to earn TopHat points, bonus points available on weekend. Tests are hard but she's a good teacher. Very enthusiatic about subject. Day & evening tutoring available this semester due to 2 TA's. Prompt response to emails. She is a great Prof. I have one more Science to take and will take her if possible.
This professor is great to take online. I thought I would have trouble focusing on the lectures, but Dr. C's passion for the subjects shows and makes the topics slightly interesting. There were 20 quizzes and 3 essay exams in our online course. Definitely recommended for anyone who just wants to get their lecture for science out of the way :)
Tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. Very nice lady and actually makes science bearable. Show up to class with your phone (use an app for participation points) and study the material and you'll be fine! She's very clear about grading and good for people who don't typically like science. Don't really need the textbook.
Dr. Cercone is a very sweet lady. Her lectures for GEOS101, also referred to as Dynamic Earth, are actually interesting and keep you engaged. You can tell that she's very passionate about her job and takes the time to make sure all of her students understand the material. I would definitely take more of Dr. Cercone's classes!
Awesome Professor. If you have to take this course, she is THE BEST. Extremely helpful and clear, her exams are exactly what she goes over in class. Her passion for the subject is clear and she is just all around GREAT!
Dr. Cercone is ok. I'm a straight A student, and struggled for a B. Geos 101... Not 495. LOTS of study time is necessary.
I took Dr. C Dynamic Earth online over winter break. The syllabus and grading was very clear. I am a bus. major so if you need an easy science take her online! 20 quizzes with videos and three essay exams. Quizzes are easy and so are essay exams, but she grades the essays more strictly. She's also very helpful for an online class. Id take her again
Dr. Cercone is a super nice lady. She's energetic and her lectures go by quickly. She uses TopHat, an online participation website, so you have to attend class. Her exams aren't easy. MAKE SURE you study the TopHat questions and study at least 2 days in advance. Overall, easy class if you study and go to class.
It took her online during the winter, and it was one of the hardest classes I've taken at IUP. I'm not particularly strong in any science courses, so just keep that in mind. The information is extremely boring. LOTS OF READING. Quizzes were pretty difficult sometimes. It is really just an intense course. It might be better in an actual classroom.
She's very nice and enthusiastic. Overall grade in the course is 4 tests and 100pts using tophat questions (an app on your phone it was $24 for the semester). She drops the lowest exam grade. I came in knowing nothing about geology but i heard it was on of the easier lib studies sciences to take. Came out with a B. Very nice lady.
Truly one of the hardest classes I've taken. Tests are very difficult and you have to study if you want to pass.
one of the best professors at this school! super nice and friendly, she wants you to learn the material. gives you a quiz every weekend, three tests the entire semester. as long as you go to class and take the notes, you will pass the quizzes and if you study the exams are not hard at all.
I hate science and I did super well in this class! It was such a breeze. Quizzes every weekend, only three exams, no homework. She is so passionate about the subject which makes the class bearable. Give great notes in class to study with! Quizzes and exams are tricky, but just spend a few hours the night before studying and you'll be fine!
I loved Dr. Cercone. She loves what she teaches & is very enthusiastic making paying attention in her class easy. She relates all of her lecture to the real world. Every weekend there is a 10 point quiz. It is incredibly easy to get a B or an A on them, as long as you take notes. The tests are hard, but studying will help.
Love her! This class is very easy and fun to learn. She is a very good speaker and makes class fun. She plays videos, gives bonus, extra credit, quizzes, study guides. It is very hard for you not to pass this class. I definitely recommend her!
Dr. C is hands down one of my favorite professors I've had so far. She doesn't post her notes online so going to class is a must but she speaks well and gives you bonus for showing up to class. The quizzes are online and there are study guides for each lecture to do before the test. I easily passed with an A and actually enjoyed going to class.
Dr Cercone offers a simple liberal arts class with GEOS101. Go to the classes, pay attention, take notes, do the online quizzes, utilize her study guides, and you'll be perfectly fine. She even offers extra credit often just for showing up to class. She's enthusiastic and clearly loves what she's doing, making the class enjoyable and interesting.
You can tell she loves what she does. Dr. Cercone is very nice, she is also very enthusiastic when she lectures. Her exams aren't too challenging. Take good notes and show up to class and you'll be fine. Offers tutoring and study guides. Lots of resources to help you pass. There are also in class participation points everyday.
Dr. C is so sweet. She is not boring and gives you slides on D2L to fill in. Definitely recommend her to friends.
she's awesome! she always has a positive energy & it always made me look forward to coming to class. there are 4 grades in the class. you really do have to go to class to get the material but she makes the class worth going to.
This class is overall not extremely difficult. Your overall grade is based on socrative participation and 4 test scores, 3 regualr exams and the final. She drops the lowest test score, making the final optional. As long as you actually study you'll do just fine. Take her for lecture and Dr. Mount for lab if you can!
I was told by a friend to take her for Geoscience. However, it was a big mistake. Professor Cercone is very bubbly and approachable, however her material is very advanced for a 100 level course. I received my first B in her class and I did study a lot. I also attended every class. All I can say is to study.
I am a senior who took her online for GEOS 101. I never skipped any of the work. The quizzes were fairly easy. However some question were clearly not 100 level questions. My (GEOS Major) friend didn't know the answers to some of the questions. He helped with the exams and together we got B's...I expected/wanted an A. She grades the essay exams hard
She is so nice. 4 tests, participation points (in class, so you need to show up), and a few risk assessments which are easy. I don't study as much as i should and keep getting B's in everything. Just go to class and write all the notes down and you'll be fine. You don't need the textbook at all.
Dr. Cercone is a nice lady. You can tell that she enjoys what she does. HOWEVER, her exams do not reflect the learning material. I expected this class to be easy and its not. We go through so many chapters in a two week period and she talks too fast to understand what she's referring to. Take someone else if you can.
Cercone works with students to make sure they get the best grade they can.
Dr. C is great. Her exams are not as hard as everyone makes them out to be and she allows you to sub your worst one out for an optional final retake. She also is very helpful during office hours and does care about her students. It's a challenge for anyone to look after 100+ students. Go to class, take notes, ask questions, and study.
Really nice person, wants you to do well in her class and is always available to help outside of her regular hours. She's passionate about what she teaches and understands that you're only there for the requirement. Weekly lab quizzes but they're all open-note so as long as you watch the assigned videos beforehand you're good. Easy A for sure.
DO NOT TAKE unless you want to fail. She is excessively difficult and only offers Exams for grades. She does not assist her students in succeeding and instead makes it impossible to do well. Teaches/tests you like you are in the major. Her bubbly personality fools you into thinking shes a good professor. No matter how much you study won't do well
Very easy grader. Quiz every class thats why its mandatory but you meet once a week. Open note quizzes and tests (even on midterms and finals.) Very sweet lady, tries to help you as much as she can. Excited to teach her subject and share her knowledge. Really knows how to make the class fun.
If you want an easy A or B DO NOT TAKE HER. Treats you like majors and is very passionate about her lectures. Have to go to class bc she grades on socrative. Her tests are so hard, you have to study for like two days straight to get a B. Take someone else for this class.
Each class you have a 3 point quiz based on that lecture for your participation points, so skipping a lot will really screw you over. Tests (3) are pretty difficult, very specific. Final is optional to replace lowest grade. No homework. She is very understanding and easy going. She does offer a decent amount of bonus opportunities.
The material for this class is not hard, its just so much information you have to remember for the tests. She drops the lowest score and you have to make sure to show up to class to take a quiz after each lecture on an app called Socrative. These quizzes add up to your participation grade that can raise your grade up. She has a lot of bonus points
I loved Dr. C! Going to class matters and tests are kind of hard. The lectures are easy to follow along and she gives a lot of examples to remember things. She is very passionate about the topics. I would definitely take her again!
Dr. Cercone was a good professor! She's really enthusiastic with the material being presented. She offered lots of extra credit. However, you really need to set time aside to study for her exams. Her exams are difficult as they ask for specific information. If you study hard, take advantage of extra credit and attend class regularly, you'll be fine
Prolly the best class if youre trying to get a sci course out of the way. If you make flashcards for the tests you'll be fine. If you have any enjoyment, knowledge or interest in science you'll prolly get an A.
I graduated in 1997 and took hydrogeology my junior year, prior to spending the summer as an environmental scientist intern working for a large consulting firm. I would consider taking graduate level courses online if they are available. Dr. C always took time to answers questions and said "the only dumb question is one you do not ask".
