she is great, and sweet,
sucks! does not know what she's talking about. students know more than she does.
Had her during the summer. She was really easy then, but I dont know during the regular semester. She really doesn't know what she is talking about, she gets flustered real easy. But she grades easy. So it's a toss up--learning or a good grade.
Makes things quite confusing, but grades very fairly.
she's very nice as a person but might want 2 review chem b/c she seems to forget alot of the subject material but none the less shes a nice and fair grader.
She is a really help full teaher, will go all out to try to help u understand something. she make mistakes every now and then but that was the main thing that helped me out cuz i would make similar mistakes and learn from them, she is a very sweet person.
She is a GREAT Professor
Shes sooo sweet and such a nice person, but teaching is just not her thing. I think if you dont open the book you will learn nothing. She tries to be a little easy on the grading and stuff but her tests are hard.
very easy, very helpful, tends to get flustered when teaching, easy with grades, as long you read the book and go to all her lectures, you should be fine in her class. just make sure that you do your homewrk before recitations and ask her lotsof questions
worst pofessor. doesnt know how to teach makes u confuse.. seriously dont take her..
I think shez a fairly good teacher especially for organic.. you should take.. her classes aren't boring eitha..
She seemed like she didn't know too much about lab b/c she always asked the TA's what to do. Since there was no lab exam, it was an overall easy class b/c the TA's did most of the work. Ask the TA's for help and you'll be fine.
I've never seen so much chalk on one person's clothes in my entire life. I personally thought she was a good teacher. She doen't always seem sure of herself and her knowledge of the subject matter, but I feel like I learned alot. Take her over Jordan, believe me...
She is really easy if u get anything less than an A in this class then please drop out or something bc u must be really dumb.
She's a very funny and caring person, although can get carried away a little bit by her passion for chemistry..lol..nonetheless, she will help you with any questions if you ask her. Has a very caring heart, so if you bad, don't worry, she'll try to help you out.
This woman loves chemistry! She gets a little confusing sometimes and disoranized but overall she makes sure everyone understands the material completely.
She really does love chemistry. not really clear to the students though. Her exams are tough, but she tries to find ways so the grade will work out for the student. Very nice person, very sweet and funny when she's not trying to be. Overall a nice person, but not such a great teacher
she is the easiest out of all the orgo professors. she is very nice. she gets lost in her thinking sometimes. she is not stupid. she makes the class a lot easier. take her if you can.
She is very easy and she also will work with you if you need help just go to her office hours. She always tries to hel everyone. You should take her she is very helpful.
She is one of the best proffessor teaching this subject. Her exams are fair, her Curve is fair and she will explain and help you with whatever you need. Not the easiest subject but this proffessor tries her best......
Great professor. Her exams are difficult but she curves when it comes to grading. Very helpful during office hours and shows a lot of passion towards chemistry. Highly recommend this professor for chem 115, more easier than the other chemistry professors.
Very sweet lady! I didn't appreciate her when i had her. But after having huskey I now know that she teaches well (better than huskey) and cares a lot about her students' success. A bit confusing at times, which tends to amuse the class.

The best Chem 116 teacher in Rutgers newark. She gets a little confused now and them and the material is incredibly hard. But her curves are fair and you get a real undersanding of chemistry.
Professor Chaffee is an enthusiastic lecturer, who will go out of her way to help the student understand. She is very personable, and easy to work with. Her grading is strict, but she is always willing to listen. Her tests are hard, and at times she can be disorganized. But she will go out of way to clarify any misunderstanding.
Chaffee was very nice but she is very scatterbrained...which causes her to skip around in the material that she teaches and causes the students to be confused. she forgets to tell you that you need to have certain info memorized until the day of recitatio
I love Dr.Chaffee.She loves Chemistry but get a little nervous sometimes. She's very sweet and approachable. If you dont understand one of her lectures, meet her in her officfe and she'll break it down for you. Yes her exams are kinda hard but thats because the Chemistry Department goes over it since they know she's very lenient. Take her!
Dr. Chaffee is so sweet and nice. She goes out of her way to clear doubts and make the subject as easy as possible. She is great!I wish she could teach Organic Chemistry next Semester.
I had Dr. Chaffee at Summer 03 and he was great. You have to study hard for it cause the chemistry chairperson makes the exams so there isnt easy a's and b's given away. if you take summer session it's do or die tests cause there's only two tests for each organic class. alot of material and all. Take her for both organics and get a b or higher
I like Professor Chaffee. You can tell she's very smart. Too smart that she seems nervous sometimes :-) Yes she can be a scatter brain but she is the best. Shr's always available during and AFTER her office hours. I found that i understood Organic Chem more when I went to see her personally for help. Her exams are pretty good. She's the BEST!
Overall she is a great lady. She explains throughly, genuinely cares about her students, and is really down to earth. Although her tests can be a little easy and her mind is all over the place sometimes, take her. You will learn a lot.
Overall she is a great lady. She explains throughly, genuinely cares about her students, and is really down to earth. Although her tests can be a little easy and her mind is all over the place sometimes, take her. You will learn a lot.
Very fair professor
great teacher!
don't be fooled by her appearance. she may seem nice, but wait til it's exam time. she will demoralize you with tricky questions.
Well lets just say she is a definite character. Shes a nice person but as a teacher i think she does the best she can with the little amount of time she had to teach this course during the summer. She goes over a lot of stuff that is not on the test. Her test are tricky . She also claims to curve a lot but actually doesnt .Just dont trust the curve
Her tests r exactly like the practice tests. U basically dont have 2 read the book or do the homework cause I never did n I got a B+. She may be a lil scatterbrained or "ramdom" but she makes learnin the material extremely easy n makes sure that everyone is following along wit her. Plus u dont have to memorize any formulas.
received an eff. F! didnt go to the first 4 classes, so i was playing catch up the whole time. never got adjusted to get good grades. my grades - 60, 65, and whatever else.
i thought she was a pretty good teacher, esp. during the time contraint we had in the summer, which was when I took the course. her exams are fair, but keep up with eveything!!
worse class ever! she makes to many mistakes and has students correctin her. never in her office when u need help. i spent my life studying for her class and i think i am going 2 fail! exams r hard. goodness avoid at all cost!!!
She is an excellant instructor and teaches the material well. Although attendance is not mandatory, i suggest going to every class to work towards the A. The exams are okay as long as you spend many hours going over everything from old exams to homework. She answers every question a person may have during class, after class, and during office hrs.
errors r done but not b/c she doesn't know her stuff, but b/c she's a bit disorg. Give the lady a break! U don't see anyone else taking on the challenge of doing it all in 6 weeks w/ a whole class of immature kids that disrupt her class, who can really focus?Bottom - fair, get many solved past exams & curves indv. when she see's improv u wont regret
She is a very good teacher. She teaches everything really good and you have to read the book to really understand the info. Alright she has a huge curve she makes the exams long and hard because she wants to give everyone great grade. B/c we have grads in our class. So she wants to be fair. I LOVE HER she made me work my ass off. BEST OF BEST.
Chaffee cracks me up with her constant mistakes in class, and chalk all over her clothes. She's really not a bad teacher at all.Her lectures SEEM useless until you go back into ur notes after an exam n realize it was all there!Studied her old exams and ended up with a B+.I got too comfortable chem 116 and ended up dropping. So keep up and don't skip
Took it in the summer, her exams are based soley on practice exams. One of the EASIEST A's Ive ever gotten. whoever says otherwise is just an idiot.
Okay, so she's all over the place but she really cares ab students. tb is your bible, i also recommend a review bk like schaum's chemistry.
Easy A if you go to class, take notes and do HW. Had her in summer 2 and got an A. Test are exactly like the examples in class
Really nice pro. Do h/w and the old exams u should be fine.. really help students in office hours...She is so cute and nice =)
I'm only an undergraduate chemistry major and I understand chem better than she does. How she got a phd in chemistry I'll never know. She confuses concepts and reactions themes. She can't even solve assigned book problems without first looking at the solutions manual. Overall though, she's an easy, friendly professor, just not very knowedgable.
Very enthusiastic about teaching chemistry. Will admit to not being an expert at the subject and make many mistakes, however tries to pass her students. Slows class down bc she stops to answer any questions. Very eager and willing to help students understand material (she will NOT blow you off). do the HW and practice exam & u'll be fine
Shes easy. I have no idea how people can still manage to fail or get a poor grade in her class. I dont find her disorganized at all. She teaches well an effectively. I learned a lot from her. She made me love her class and love chemistry! =)
hah....she's crazy, but funny. definitely easier than the other chem professors, lenient too. makes things confusing, but if you want to pass, take her.
Very sweet. Shes my recitation instructor, but very helpful. If you want to learn, she is ready to teach. She will explain very difficult concepts in an easy way and then ask the simplest question for the quiz. Very nice person. Highly recommended!
She is so confusing, always gets lost in what she's doing. But really is helpful though. She does try her best to help, exams are sometimes tricky, but thats why you MUST study!
she is the recitation professor for orgo 1. she knows her stuff and she tries her best to make the most complicated material simple.. but then again she cant make everything as simple cause orgo is..well not hard but takes time to sink in for some.. she helps you if u ask for it.. some students that say it not worth attending her lectures are wrong
She tries to make sure you understand and goes at a reasonable pace. She makes mistakes often but she normally notices and fixes them. Overall, pretty easy.
She is the best, she makes sure you understand the material and is always open to help you...make sure you take her, you will pass just study and ask her questions in her office....
Sweetest, Cutest Professor. She's very nice if you pay attention her examples are very close to her tests! She is very good at explaining the material and tries very hard to understand and explain the stupidest of questions.
I LOVE HERR. <3 she's my homie B. she's the best chem professor ever.
I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Chaffee for Chem 115 and 116 this summer. These classes, with their labs, are NOT easy. Dr. Chaffee's exams are straightforward, and they test your knowledge of a large amount of material (cumulative final). Two complaints: Burdge text was full of errors; some students should take an easier class. V helpful prof.
she is the angel sent from God for the newark chem department. After a heart breaking experience with Dr. Schlegel, Dr. Chaffee was certainly a nice way to end general chemistry. Make sure you take her and study her old exams, her questions are based on them...good luck
She is a really classy professor. Never holds grudges or discourages anyone from learning the subject matter. I wish her the best as I know she has always wished it for me.
Very nice professor. Will give an arm and leg to help out her students. Don't be afraid to go to her for help with anything, she is very consistent.
I wonder how she became a professor amazes me.She's so clumsy!~ Yet very nice and kind. Her tests are almost exactly like the ones online. She loves to draw pictures and uses tricks to analyze things easier!~
She is really nice. Her exams are very straightforward. The only way to do well is doing the homework,ARIS and practicing her old tests, she posts them online.Sometimes she is not that good at explaing things; therefore, READ the textbook, it helps a lot.
very good teacher, study the text and you will have no problems. She will help you with any problems you have. If u get a bad grade, it means ur a lazy ass or just dumb.
Hands down one of the nicest professors on campus. She was always willing to help even when it wasn't her office hours. Exams questions are a bit tricky but if you use all of the techniques she demonstrates in class it makes the exams so much easier. Study her practice exams, and do Aris for a guaranteed A...Oh and do not take Raynor for recitation
totally spacey prof. she'll start talking and then realize she was wrong and start over. really hard to take proper notes. doesn't care if you come to lecture. easy exams, gives a formula sheet and problems are taken straight from ARIS and homework. if you've already taken chem its an easy A
Yes she is a bit messy in her teaching style and she does make a lot of mistakes but to me thats why she is a great professor in orgo. Since she always makes mistakes you are forced to pay attention and make sure what she is saying is correct or not. She is also without a doubt one of the nicest and most helpful professor on campus. Take her!
Great Professor. I like her! Her tests are not that hard if you really study the note. She's nice and always smiling. Love her!
She spends so much time teaching really easy material and then leaves the hardest mechanisms and synthesis for the week before the test. Her exams are the most straightforward compared to the ones ive seen from all the other teachers. Her exams are doable, but you really need to keep on top of the material. Remember, Organic Chemistry is hard.
She was so easy. The best thing is that if you go to her office, she is willing to spend as much time until you understand. Im taking her right now for Orgo, and so far so good. So if shes a choice then take her!!!!
A nice lady but disorganized. She makes a lot of mistakes so be sure to look out for that. This is the first class that I haven't done well, I don't know if it was me or her way of teaching but i just didn't get it. She's nice though and will go out of her way to help. Her exam scores are worth 100+ points. i.e 1st exams was 134. she's cute too
she is the best chemistry professor at rutgers...i had her for gen chem and orgo...she is really helpful and teaches the material very easily...her exams are straight forward and really easy....i learned chemistry because of her...take her if you really wanna understand chemistry....yes she is unorganized but she corrects herself after..
Dr. Chaffee is unclear with her explanations during lectures that lead to large class confusion. What she posts online frequently has the wrong answers and the exams for the summer especially the final were unreasonably difficult and not enough time was allotted to take them especially the final. Grade is based completely on exam scores.
Took this class in Summer Session One. Professor Chaffee is a sweet lady overall but not teach clearly AT ALL in this class. She was extrememly confusing and and at times lost her train of thought during class. Many times she would even confuse herself!! A lot of what she said didn't match with the online materials and exams.
Chaffe is the best chem prof in the world.if you go to lecture and pay attention,u dnt have to read the book,..she explains very well, yes she gets confused sometimes, but she corrects herself and her exams are really easy ..mostly frm notes and old exams. take her if you want to learn chem and get an A.
go to class, take good notes, do the homework and practice exam questions and you'll be fine. Reading the book is not mandatory since all the material covered on her exams is from her notes, however you do need it for the homework, which is important. She is unorganized sometimes, but for Organic Chemistry, she's a pretty easy professor.
This is chemistry. You have to study to get a good grade. I ended up dropping the class because I didn't study. I had a 50 on my first exam. Chaffee is not that easy, but she is nice and helpful.
Professor Chaffee really knows how to teach organic chemistry. She takes all time necessary in class to review the subject matter and is very patient with the class. She makes the subject matter interesting and understandable. She is a very skilled, talented and passionate professor of chemistry.
Great professor, very helpful, her exams are from her lecture notes, practice those and practice old exams, and you'll be fine.
She's a wonderful person. Amazing teacher. Not often you come across a prof w/ the willingness and desire to help students the way this woman does. Beautiful person in all aspects of the word.
I took this course after reading the good/bad ratings. I figured it was a 50/50 chance. Do yourself a favor and avoid this professor at all costs. She c onfuses herself and can not answer complex questions. She tells you to skip things that end up being on the exam. She has trust issues and treats her exams like its the mcats. She is obnocious too.
Professor Chaffee is the most amazing organic chemistry teacher anyone can have. I recommend her to anyone who wants to take orgo and actually learn from it. You must go to class and write down all her notes and her exams are straight from her notes. Chaffee makes the class interesting and her knowledge in orgo is outstanding.
Professor Chaffee is the nicest, most helpful professor. She is probably the best professor ive had in my undergraduate career and i dont attend rutgers. thanks to her i LOVE orgo. she's great. you will learn so much
AWESOME Professor. I love her! If you go to lecture and actually pay attention you'll do fine. As she says chemistry is a skill so the more you practice it the better you become at it. If you need extra help she offers office hours. Nicest Teacher ever. She has the spirit of a teenager so it makes class so much more interesting.
She's such a sweetheart! One of the nicest professors you will ever meet in your life. Dr. Chaffee wants to see all of her students succeed and will go out of her way to help you. The material is hard, but gives you plenty of practice questions to get better at the subject. Very enthusiastic and energetic while teaching! Highly recommended!
This is the professor to take Orgo with!!! She's really helpful and goes out of her way to help you. Respects her students and really wants each of them to do well. Doesn't trick you. Very straightforward. She does make some mistakes, but she'll realize it and correct it. Don't take any other professor but her for Organic Chemistry (I and II).
AWESOME TEACHER! Prof. Chaffee is literally the best chemistry professor in the department. She made the concepts easy to understand and gives a lot of assistance during the course. You can tell she loves her job and really cares for her students. I'm going to make sure I take her for Orgo. Take any class with Prof. Chaffee and you won't regret it!
I took her last summer for Orgo 1 and 2. One of the greatest and nicest professors you'll ever come across. Her dedication to her students is unmatched and always tries to lend a hand. I took Huskey and he wasn't helpful (got a D) and retook the class with Chaffee and got an A. Take her for any course.
Really good teacher and one of the most helpful people you will meet. Attend all the classes in order to do well. Also, for her age, she's not bad on the eyes.
Ok this lady is awesome. She always helps and tries to be clear as much as possible. Her tests are not easy, but if you pay attention they will be VERY easy, believe me. I did not study for a quiz and just listened to her for the lecture and got an A, so just pay attention.
Chaffee is awesome. Her lectures were long and basically useless. What helped was her practice tests and her recitations, as she was more clear at explaining then for some reason. As long as you show up to recitation and do the practice tests, you get the grade. Wish she taught Orgo during the normal fallspring cycle.
Ok so she is constantly teaching stuff that "won't" be on the exam. She is all over the place and makes too many mistakes she doesn't like to answer questions but she is a very kind professor and Her curves are fair. Her exams are too long though
I understand that Chaffee is a nice person and all but I don't understand where all these good reviews came from. Everything that I learned in Chem this semester I have learned online. She is extremely unorganized and although her test are easy a majority of the class fails them because she doesn't properly teach the material.
Prof. Chaffee is a doll. Her exams are not too difficult and she helps a lot in lecture. Although, attendance is not mandatory, almost all of her students still attend, because its that useful. She gives a lot of extra worksheets, although they aren't mandatory to do, DO THEM!!, they help a lot for the exams.
Word of Truth: Never have I had a professor who gives so many opportunities to earn an A. Attendance isn't manditory but if you have trouble understanding something, that's what it's there for. Recitation helps a lot too. Easy quizzes and homework. Hard and long tests? About 18 MC questions on average. Would definitely take any class with her.
Beautiful Prof. sweetest person you will ever meet. she saved my semester. I have never had a professor who works so hard to help you get an A. the subject is tough, be prepared and do not slack, you will suffer. she is unorganized and hard to follow, but fair grader. will take her again just for that.
Tests and quizzes aren't bad. HOWEVER, be prepared to learn the material YOURSELF. She is very unorganized and hard to follow; she spends a good portion of class covering things that won't be on the exam and it feels like she rushes through stuff that will be on the exam. If you're good at learning through YouTube, this is the class for you.
Dr. Chaffee is awesome! She makes chemistry fun and actually easy to understand! She explains things in a way that make sense in the "real world" and as long as you show up to lectures and pay attention, you will get an A. Some people don't like her laidback style but at least she wants her students to do well, not make it impossible! She rocks!
Had her for gen chem 1 and orgo 1 and 2. Best Chem professor at Rutgers. Take her as many times as you can (even if that means in the summer. IT IS WORTH IT.) Gives u all of the practice exams, worksheets, etc. that you need to pass. Really means well for her students. Disorganized at times still a great teacher, very educated. U won't regret it
Do yourself the favor and take Chaffee. This is the only Organic Chemistry class in Rutgers where students actually understand AND pass. I know that sacrificing your summer is hard, but the feeling of being done with Orgo is so worth it.
Her class can be a little tough because the course itself is very fast paced. But out of all professors I think shes the easiest, if you're aiming for an A. 3 exams, 1 final, Learnsmart, and quiz every recitation. Not so bad cuz most professors require more. Be prepared to teach yourself a bit but not that bad as long as you kno wht she went over.
Professor Chaffee knows what she is talking about but has a hard time expressing it when explaining things. She tends to use a lot of weird analogies that only make things more confusing. Very nice, but hard to understand.
Took Orgo in the summer with Chaffee after failing in the fall. She is decent at explaining material, but since the class is very fast paced, you won't have time to breathe or catch up if you miss a lecture. Her tests are very fair though compared to others, wish she taught during the normal cycle instead of summer to avoid the hecticness.
Best Chemistry Professor at Rutgers! Chemistry isn't easy at all, but Chaffee teaches it in a way that actually helps a lot. A lot of people complain that she is not organized but she literally posts everything you need to pass on Blackboard. So regardless of whether she is organized or not, if you want to, you will pass!! LOVE HER.
Chaffee is a weird professor but I didn't mind it. She knows her stuff but she just makes slight errors during lectures. She makes learning easy if you can get past her quirky-ness. I'm taking her again next semester cause I got used to her teaching style. If your OCD about your lectures don't take her lol she'll drive you insane with her errors
Prof. Chaffee knows her subject. She is a little bit disorganized. Her exams are very easy, but you need to read her notes in blackboard and read the book. She will put things that she didn't cover in the class in the exams. I think that you need to know some Chemistry to go to her class. If you come with no knowledge at all it can be hard.
I don't have any words to describe this woman. She is amazing. Great professor and also a wonderful person. Go to the lectures and pay attention cause if you don't you want pass. Simple. She can be a little all over the place sometimes but if you don't understand something she'll sit down with you and properly explain everything.
OK Chaffee is a nice lady but she can be crazy, This was her first time teaching this class in about 7 years, and was very messy and had no clue what was going on half the time because she always let us know the material was very hard and she did not do very well when she took the class, Her exams make you think and she puts tricky questions.
I love her so much... words cant describe my love for her. Shes amazing take her for any class possible. Shes just amazing. I had her for four classes straight. God i love this woman. #TeamChaffee
Professor Chaffee is better at handling small classes than large lecture halls. Sometimes disorganized, but she truly cares for her students if she sees you trying. take her when she has smaller classes, she cant control a full lecture hall and it becomes quite disruptive when she teaches. Read the book then and come after class for help.
Attendance wasn't mandatory. Usually went most of the time. Enjoyable class. Roughly equivalent to high-school chemistry. Lecture was excellent. Great professor over all. Dutch bags in the lectures making noise, irrelevant to professor chafee. She explains everything thoroughly and succinctly, funny and entertaining. Lab bad. TAs dont show exp.
Probably my all time favorite human being. She's really good at chemistry and has a way of explaining things, even though silly, they work out great. If you pay attention and take good notes, you'll get an A, no doubt.
If you are taking Chaffee for chemistry, I would recommend DONT. Her exams are VERY difficult and the reviews she gives out do not help that much. She is very disorganized, throughout her exams she has several mistakes and that took up time from the test taking. She does not cooperate with you to get a good grade in the class. Don't take her...
Amazing professor. She can come off as a little clumsy and disorganized but she is very clear in her teachings. She makes some silly mistakes too that you need to look out for but other than that, she is very easy to learn form. Also, she tries her best to help her students succeed and get a good grade.
If you need to take organic chem take Chaffee, by far the greatest professor. EXTREMELY PATIENT! Doesnt get mad if you ask stupid questions. She has her own ways she figured out back in her day to solve problems which helped me so much. Go to lecture!! Helps alot, her notes are the best because she uses similar problems on the exam
Professor Chaffee is by far the best Chemistry Professor at Rutgers-N. I have had her for Gen Chem 1, 2, Orgo 1, and Orgo 2. Her exams are not the easiest, but they're not horrible either. She challenges you, but she teaches EVERYTHING. She knows how to distinguish the A's from the B's, so make sure to study and GO TO CLASS. She enjoys teaching :)
Chaffee is one of the most humble and caring prof. in the Chem department. There are no easy prof. but with her class you have a chance to get an A if you go to every lecture and copy the notes (and obviously study A LOT) I had her for all the Chem classes she teaches, did not get all A's in all of them but can't say I tried my best in all of them.
Chaffee is a great professor, and a caring person. Remember the most important thing about orgo, - there is a lot of stuff to memorize. Study hard and you'll pass your orgo classes.
Took multiple classes with her. Definitely one of the more genuinely caring Chem professors. If you're worried about passing Orgo, she's your best bet. Provides you with many tools and opportunities because she really wants everyone to pass. If you pass her final at the least, she passes you. Willing to go above and beyond for students.
In lecture, she is decent, she sets up the foundations. I found her better in recitation, where she answers all your questions and shows you how to do everything step by step. There are a lot of opportunities to earn points, she gives a good amount of bonus questions on quizzes, and bonus HW.
Awesome professor. Big heart, helpful and caring. I'd take her again.
The best chemistry professor. Helpful, accessible during office hours, great teaching techniques. Highly recommended.
Spends a lot of time yelling at students who talk while she's teaching. Makes tons of mistakes. Wastes time writing out questions on the board when it's shown on each tv in the lecture hall. Practice exams were similar to exams. exams r difficult to complete on time. can't even take an educated guess on M.C question bc theres 8 instead of 4 choices
Chem is hard and she just makes it 10X more complicated by not teaching the material straightforwardly. She's always making mistakes in each lecture literally revising the disorganized slides as shes lecturing! TA's (Lalancette)are not much help bc there's not much time to review the material from the week and cynical about the content being hard.
I took her for Orgo 2 in the summer. Definitely the worst professor Ive ever had in my life. Best of luck to you, because half the class didnt pass. Ive never hated a person more in my life
She's sweet and dedicates all of her time to helping students. However, this class is no joke even though its in the summer. Do NOT take her lightly. Although she's your best bet at passing, she's ridiculously disorganized and confusing at times. Exams are tricky, but fair. I worked my ASS off for a B and got it. Do her practice sheets A LOT!!!!!!!!
I was told she was the best professor to take for chem, but She is VERY disorganized and she jumps around slides a lot. Some concepts she would pull out the slide and read alloud the question, then explain what you have to do by just talking, then shows the answer and method on next slide. This can work for some students but it didnt for me.
She's kind of unorganized and just not good. Avoid her.
Very sweet and helpful lady. Not to mention she is brilliant which is expected because like hello she is a Chemistry Professor after all. She tries to help everyone out as much as she can and forgives and lets go of many mistakes. Take her if you can if you want to learn and have a great time learning Chemistry. Thank you, Dr. Chaffee.
Amazing professor. Totally love her. I wish all the chemistry professors at Rutgers were this caring and helpful.
Thank to this professor, I was able to learn and pass orgo 1 and 2.
God this woman will always be in my prayers. Really goes the extra mile for her students. Took her for chem 1 I did not pass but was not her fault!! I did not put in the effort. Later took her for orgo 1 and 2 and imagine my surprise when I got a B and again I could have gotten an A if I put in more work. So the point is she does her job well.
Excellent professor. Caring person. Best teaching professor in the chemistry department.
Decent professor, material isn't hard but she stutters a lot in class. She bounces a lot on the material and it isn't taught in a straightforward way. Fairly disorganized and papers all over the place. Lab is easier, guaranteed a B in the class for attending sessions and doing it right - to get an A you have to do well on quizzes but not hard.
The professor is loud, which is not bad. She sometimes makes mistakes but is okay. The documents she puts on the blackboard are total mass. The course starts with automatic value and ends with organic chemistry, whose span is so big. Thankfully, the professor will give exam practices before exams (there are three) which are similar to real exams.
Ok she is nice but her teaching methods are horrendous. For the lecture she prepares A LOT of slides that are disorganized and sloppy, and she sometimes corrects herself and revises those slides DURING lecture. She mostly explains how to do something and then shows you the answer in the next slidethis really did not help me. Very scatterbrained..
Professor Chaffee is great! In her lectures, she gives you time to work on in-class worksheets (that aren't graded) but these problems will be on the exams. If you know the worksheets then you should get A's on all of the exams. Lab takes an hour and a half at most, you should get out pretty quick. The TA's are disorganized, but overall good class!
Professor Chaffee was a great professor. As long as you are completing the work she gives, you should be fine. It is very easy to access her either through email or blackboard collaborate. Each class, there is usually a lecture and a class assignment that you can take as many times as you want. As long as you try, you will pass!
Professor Chaffee was a great professor. It was easy to access her. She could be accessed through email or through Blackboard Collaborate. For each class, she recorded a lecture and then, you had to complete a class assignment that corresponds with the lecture. This class assignment can be taken as many times as you want.
If Prof Chaffee was teaching another natural class, I would def take her again. She is extremely caring and makes sure every student understands all of her lessons. She gives many chances to make sure you end up with a grade that you want. 10/10 professor.
Prof Chaffee wants her students to pass and doesn't give them a hard time. Use her resources on Canvas, which are VERY helpful. The recitations were also very helpful and were a good use of time. Chaffee's exams are also very doable and are similar to her HW assignments.
She's the best chemistry professor you will ever have. it's an easy class and she's so understandable with her students. Attend the lecture and take notes and you will be fine. the attendance is not mandatory but it will help you a lot when you take notes before the exam. She so nice with her students. I wish I can all chemistry classes with her.
Dr. Chaffee is a very caring professor, she is there to help whenever you need her. Her practice exams and study sheets are very similar to the exams. If you do the work and study you will get that A
I hated Chaffee. She tries to be helpful but she is very disorganized. The slides constantly have the wrong answers, and she jumps certain topics that she thinks aren't important but then pop up in the exam. I had to withdraw because there was no way I am failing. The recitation teacher did not teach well either. Take Huskey or Lowe.

Dr. Chaffee is very sweet. She can be disorganized and also very confusing, but as long as you're keeping up with what you're learning, you'll be able to understand a bit. She is so kind and she won't hesitate to help anyone out. She will do anything to make you pass.
She was honestly the best chemistry professor I have ever had. She cares a lot about her students and curves generously. She gives out study sheets which are great practice for the exams. There are 3 exams and 1 final, the exams get easier and if you did well on them you'll do great on the final. Her lectures are sometimes boring but not that bad.
Dr.Chaffee is an amazing professor and human. She is kind and cares about her students. She truly wants everyone to do well and be interested in Chem. Her exams aren't tricky if you study and come to class. It does not take a lot of effort to do well. The final was exactly what she said it would be as well. Overall an awesome professor!
Prof. Chaffee is an amazing instructor who truly cares about her students' success. Exams are fair if you engage with the material. Unstuckstudy was a great study tool alongside the provided resources.
While she is a nice person, I wouldn't suggest taking her class. I had her for recitation in chem 101 and she is consistently disorganized. Every answer key has at least one incorrect answer and she focuses too much time on insignificant things while ignoring what you really need to learn.
Honestly great professor that loves teaching chemistry. Everything is straightforward and she gives a bunch of previous exams that are identical to how exam is. Labs are kind of tedious though, but other than that she's great as a professor. Take astronomy and chemistry for natural sciences for an reachable easy A compared to other classes.
I recommend taking Karen Chaffee's World of Chemistry and Lab. She is really kind when it comes to addressing your concerns and extremely helpful when it comes to exams, as she provides you with all the necessary materials to study. 3 midterms and 1 final. She provides you with small in-class practice to help you prepare for the exam. Take her.
Prof. Chafee is an amazing professor! The class is extremely easy, your entire grade is based on just four exams and attendance (and she gives five free absences). She provides practice exams for each test, which are actual exams from previous semesters. Honestly, getting anything below a B+ doesn't make much sense given how easy the course is.
