She is very funny and nice. Sometimes she's flaky and talks on and on, and doesn't start on time. Easy A though.
Always really positive and nice. Other students complained she wasn't clear, but as long as you read the textbook to supplement the class she has a lot of valuable counseling experience to offer. Also she's pretty hot.
She's very optimistic and visual when she does her lectures, I enjoyed being in her class very much, her class is not hard, if you do the readings and assignments, an easy A. She also provides extra credits pretty often too.
She knows her stuff (Shes a practicing therapist) At times she can go on about something, but it will always be relevant to the class topic. She is wonderful to talk to & get to know on a personal level. Easy class to take if you pay attention and do the reading.
She was great. If you attend class and pay attention to the lecture you'll get an A. She makes it sound scary with all of her pop quizzes, but they're no sweat. If you want an a on 200 or 204 choose her
She is a great overall teacher, she is not trying to trick students, she is trying to help you succeed. Her tests are not difficult if you attend class. Overall a good experience she does tend to talk in a round about way sometimes but its always good information that she is trying to present in an easy to understand manner..
One of the few actual Clinicians on the PSU Psych faculty. Very helpful, likes to engage with answering questions, extra credit opportunities, and tests are straight forward. Text book is used, but does not expect you to read it cover to cover. I would take a class from her again.
She is really funny and keeps you engaged in the material. She offered extra credit opportunities. There were only two exams, the midterm and final, no quizzes. Her exams were easy to get an A if you attended class and did your reading. I loved her class and I would take any other psychology class with this teacher again she's awesome.
Best professor I've ever had! Tests are easy if you go to class and you aren't expected to know the book word for word. She also works as a clinical psychologist and has a lot of interesting stories about her work
One of the best professors I've had. Very nice & funny. Her quizzes are based of the textbook and a 4 page paper due midway of the term. Easy A :)
I LOVED THIS CLASS! Dr. Chenier is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about psychology and you can tell by the way she presents her lectures. Her lectures includes power points and a video every know and then :) Plan on researching for your term paper ahead of time because it is worth 80% of your overall grade.
She's very laid back & easy going. Long breaks. Class was very easy. Pop Quizzes each week usually meant some sort of survey or personality test. No exams. The research paper is very hard, but you should do well on it. For a final we wrote about the term & what we learned. She liked mine enough to bump me to an A. I like her & I learned a lot.
You'll love her! 3.5 hour night class, but she gave a 30 min break. Her quizzes are open book and easy. The paper was worth 78% of the grade but don't stress, you are just writing about yourself and applying peer reviewed articles and the book to explain class concepts. Very easy A. I didn't even have to take the final and got an A.
I really enjoyed this class! Chenier is professional therapist & uses case studies & research material to explain different psych theories. The book is dense, a lot of material! Their were 4 quizzes which we graded in class. Tough, but helpful. It helped motivate me to keep up with the reading & helped prepare for the midterm & final.
She is obviously passionate about what she does not only in teaching by with psychology as a profession. She thinks outside the box for teaching and doesn't rely on the book to get it through to the students. Her lectures are interactive and worth hanging around for. I wish there were more courses here I could take with her.
Extremely helpful instructor. Really cares about what she teaches and how she teaches it. Very friendly and helpful outside class. The majority of the final grade is based on an essay that is a combination of a research paper and a personal reflection. Attendance is mandatory in the form of pop quizzes worth 5% of your grade.
This was a great class! Karen's lectures were engaging, and made the subject easy. 78% of the grade is on a paper that revolves around something you are passionate about, and the rest of the grade weighs on 4 pop quizzes (All very easy, most are take home!) and attendence/participation. Highly recommended, especially if you are a psychology major.
Very compassionate, attentive, and easygoing. She was incredibly supportive during the term and always had time for questions.
Karen knows when to use humor to make the class stay attentive and engaged but also knows when to get serious. This class was refreshing because it wasn't overly stressful and you didn't have a major final (just a pop quiz). There was a long paper due but so long as you are candid and vulnerable, you will get an easy A. Pop quizzes are open book.
She's an alright professor, but I would not take her again. I emailed her 3 times and she never emailed me back. Forget missing a class, she gives out pop quizzes randomly and they count for so much of your grade that it'll knock you down a letter.
Chenier is a great professor. Her lectures are engaging and the material is interesting, assuming you haven't already taken PSY204. (I found myself bored). If you wanna skip, make friends & have them text you if there'll be a popquiz, as she announces it at the beginning of lecture. Grading is entirely based on tests, attendance and popquizzes.
She does the best she can for a class that tries to cover a huge bulk of psychology. She's very funny and makes lectures interesting. No assignments, just pop quizzes and two exams. A lot of extra credit opportunity, though. I would take again if I were more interested in psychology.
Don't need the book. Gives pop quizzes on previous lecture so show up and you'll do fine. Pay attention in class and take notes and it's an Easy A. Takes attendance.
I coasted to a B and would have done better if I applied myself. One paper worth 75% of grade. 4 quizzes worth 20%. They weren't really quizzes in the traditional sense though, more like easy brief assignments, and 2 of them were cancelled. 5% grade based on attendance. She gives extra credit.
75% of the grade was for a reflective essay. Just show up to class and spend a little time on the paper. Good to go, easy A. She's really nice, kind of goes off on tangents, but she's entertaining.
Love Karen! Personally, I love when a educator can connect with their students in a way that isn't so basic and just rambles on. She is a very funny professor that keeps you engaged with what she is saying, may go into a tangent or two, but I really did learn a lot from her and she makes learning it easy. Wish I could take her more than twice!
This is one of those classes that you can totally ignore and stil get an A in. I went to 5 lectures the whole term. Did 2 "pop" quizzes, a mulitple choice midterm and final. We did not do a good amount of the work for this course that was outlined at the beginning of the term. But despite this, the class is an easy A and pretty interesting.
I am not a psychology major, so I was not looking forward to taking this class. That being the case, the class was surprisingly engaging and informative. The instructor was very good, and knowledgeable. There was a lot of reading assignments, 4 pop quizzes, a midterm and final. Also, Chenier offered extra credit.
Karen is quirky (in a good way) which is good for a night class. While the material seemed more like 200 level, it was a good refresher for psych majors and a good intro for non-majors. 75% of your grade is a 5 pg self reflection paper that requires a little research. The rest is easy pop-quizzes and participation. Don't bother buying the textbook
I always look forward to this class. she makes lectures enjoyable.
New tags: Scatterbrained. Unfocused. Instructor went tangential about how things were/are done in California, in every lecture. Likes to name drop. No real tests. 5 page reflective essay is 75% of the grade. Would NOT recommend or take again.
I love Karen so much. She is so fun to be around and her classes are easy As. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will do very well. She loves to give pop quizzes, but they are honestly so easy. Save your quizzes, because she'll most likely put the same questions on your midterm and final!
If you have the textbook and can ace the tests, attendance is not mandatory. But you wouldn't want to miss some of the hilarious lectures Karen has to offer!
Easy class, and a fair grader. However I have concluded that she considered me some sort of threat because she at first acted nervous, then hostile towards me and my questions. My questions are a sincere expression of my curiosity and desire to learn. I think Professors are supposed to be open to students questions. Maybe mine were too difficult.
Karen briefs over a concept and then goes on a rant about it. Her grading seems simple, but she was very unorganized and immediately defensive when you approach her. Not easy to get a hold of, not empathetic, has zero faith in students. She lost one of my assignments (which was later found) but initially told me to petition my grade/ class.
Long lectures but easy class over all. Four pop quizzes but she assigns dates for them so you can plan for them, they are really easy and straight forward. I didn't read the textbook at all for this course and passed with a 100%. Grade heavily dependent on one five page paper on topic of your choice. Would take again!
Take her class!! I recommend always showing up for class because her tests and quizzes are based on what she says. Take the reading from the textbook lightly. Pay attention in class too because she will have a few words on a slide and talk about something for 10 minutes. 2 announced pop quizzes and 2 random but come to class and you'll be fine.
Great professor , she's funny and makes her classes interesting. half schedule quizzes the other half of the term are called pop (you'll now when to expect them). exams are easy just be in lectures , read the text book and do the extra credit. highly recommended professor.
The class itself was totally fine. She's funny and interesting. But the final was today 1230. PSU chose to stay open despite ice storm. I e-mailed her and the TA twice; once yesterday, once today about alternate testing since I'm physically disabled and live in Sandy. They ignored me. Made it there fine. Drive back was HELL! Fell on ice. Ow!!
EASY A- IF you show up (attendence counts), you'll pass. Honestly should not count as a 300 level class, if you have a basic knowledge of psych, you'll be fine. You only have one paper thats due, and the 'pop quizzes' are assigned prior, and are turned in online (usually required to write one short parragraph). NO FINAL.
She's super awesome. She actually lectures instead of reading off of her PowerPoints. The PowerPoints are nice to go through as a fresh reminder but they almost mean nothing if you didn't sit through her lecture. You don't have to attend class and can just read out of the book but the book is extremely boring. However, she's always late to class.
Karen is a quirky women. For sure the most interesting professor I've ever had. Her lectures and class are a little disorganized and all over the place. Show up, do some reading, and study the lecture notes and you'll do great. All of her pop quizzes are usually announced ahead of time and sometimes tricky and confusing. Overall Karen is alright!
Amazing teacher. All her pop quizzes and exams were based upon the book. She tells personal stories to help you connect the lectures to the topics. She also does a few video clips in order to help you remember. Definitely would take her again.
Karen is a good professor, that is passionate about psychology. The only problem I had in her class was that everything was extremely easy, she was disorganized, and I didn't really see the point to come to class. The three pop quizzes didn't use materials we learned, the paper is worth 75% of your grade, and I never cracked my textbook.
Karen is a very caring funny professor. Grades are based off midterm final and pop quizzes which she'll tell you when they're coming up. Lots of extra credit opportunity. She gives good feedback if you go to her office. I plan on taking all my psychology classes with her.
Dr. Chenier is very friendly, although a tad bit scatterbrained at times. The course material is very easy, DONT BUY THE BOOK (you won't use it). All lecture notes are posted online. I rarely go to this class; however, I have missed at least one pop quiz because of that, so I suggest going to class most of the time.
She's a very likable person, she knows how to connect with the class and is very passionate about psychology. She is a little disorganized but nothing too bad. I used the textbook a little personally but show up to the lecture or look at the notes on D2L and you'll be fine. Pop quizzes are big so I suggest showing up but there is extra credit.
I'm a post-back, returning to college. So I really appreciated this professors knowledge in clinical psychology, and the professional experience outside the academic bubble. Though, I was surprised at the level of students, hoping it is because of a 200 level class, students seem unappreciative. Good class, would take them again for sure.
Dr. Karen is a sweetheart who loves what she does. Should've listened to others and not gotten the textbook. She covers everything you need to know in class. My only complaint is that it doesn't really feel like you're being challenged. One paper and weekly assignments. There is an attendance sheet, but a few absences are accepted.
Most of her lecture is verbatim from the textbook. Expect tangents during lectures that add nothing and are impossible to follow; she delivers it all with a smile though. She's super approachable and kind. No homework, just short worksheets in class. If you like straightforward, no-nonsense style find a different professor.
IMO, Dr. C is passionate about health care and is knowledgeable, especially about mental health and the body. She encourages engagement during discussions, and I liked how she would get the class BTT. Bi-weekly worksheets with essay and a 5-7 pg paper. Didn't read much of text. She catches BS . . . funny story about that . . . some other time.
Great lecturer, she's funny and keeps you engaged. I didn't read the textbook, her tests are multiple choice and pretty straight forward. She has small quizzes every now and then. If you have already taken any sort of psychology before, you'll probably do great in this class. She responds to e-mails in a timely manner as well.
Prof C. is very positive and upbeat and loves teaching. There are very few assignments, only a few in-class ones (easy) and one 5-7 page paper as a final. Don't buy the textbook, she covers everything you need in class. Easy A, would take again.
Great! LOVED the class, super interesting and I will keep an eye out to take one of her classes again. BIG lecture hall so watch out if you hate crowds, need to be early to get a good seat.
Dr. Chenier is very positive and loves teaching. Her lectures are informational, there are few assignments, mostly in-class ones, so be sure to attend every class! And one 5-7 page paper as a final that counts as a chunk of your grade. She's also very caring, and wants to make sure that you pass the class.
Dr. Chenier is very kind and thoughtful when it come s to her students and their wellbeing. She is a bit all over the place so if you need structure then I advise not taking her class. She is funny and takes the time to answer questions.
Karen is passionate and knowledgeable about various topics in Psychology. However, she does show up to class late and doesn't seem to be very organized. She can get side tracked very easily and when class is over, she will sometimes let the class out late on behalf of her not showing up on time or due to her lack of time management.
Dr. Chenier's professional experience in clinical psychology was interesting to hear. She seems to really enjoy the subject and teaching as well. Presented topics in a clear and memorable fashion.
While this class requires minimal effort to pass, don't you dare expect to use your laptop to take notes in class, in fact, expect to do most of your learning outside of class as most of the class time is taken up going over bulletins she's posted online or other things that aren't actually lecture.
Class was super easy and graded only based off tests and participation on a few online discussion boards. The tests were easy if you go to class and take notes. It says a book is required but I never used mine. Karen makes the lectures interesting with her personality but sometimes shell go on about an unrelated topic.
Karen was awesome, and I loved her class. She does tend to go on rants, but it is endearing and if you're interested in Psychology they're relevant. She was very fair with grading, and everything besides packback was made clear. We had to go over that as a class a few times.
I very much enjoyed this class. Karen was down to earth and didn't beat around the bush. The course is very much dependent on showing up to the class but I personally never got bored. Very much recommended
She is a really nice lady and she will often try to be uplifting with her lectures. On the tests expect to know the vocab from the lectures and textbooks really well.
She is a pretty cool professor. She does like to talk a lot and use examples in every lecture. If you fall asleep from a talker, she isn't for you. As long as you show up to every class, pay attention and take notes you should be able to pass with an easy A or B. Textbook is required for readings on each lesson on your own, but its not bad. No hw.
The 4 week Psy317 summer class I took was almost too easy. She's not very organized & puts projects off until the following week A LOT, she goes off on tangents and isn't always super clear on what she wants. Shes pretty much always a little late to class too. It can be annoying, HOWEVER if you're looking for an easy upper division class this is it
Karen is a really sweet professor. She is super passionate and a great intro to psych choice. My only criticism is that she talks A LOT. About random tangents and stories, and not the class material, which takes up a ton of time and we get behind. Shes a bit quirky and silly, but if you show up, take notes, and study, youll pass easily.
Psychology with Karen is pretty much easy if you put in the work and effort. Making the effort to come to class (takes attendance), paying attention in the lecture, and taking decent notes will likely help you pass the class. The class does require a book but the lectures cover almost everything that the book covers. Overall, Karen is amazing.
The instructor was caring and motivated to teach. I appreciated having a professor who is knowledgeable w/o the BS. She expected participation, so make sure you come to class. Readings are totally easy; don't buy the book. I just went to the library to review the text readings. There were 4 Quizzes & a final paper report. Highly recommend!
Not very good at conveying information through lectures; she went off on tangents a lot. It wasn't made clear what exactly we were supposed to study before the quizzes/tests- which are the only things that make up my grade in the class. Would have liked to have other assignments to cushion the potenial blows of exams/quizzes.
She's actually a clinical psychologist, so she's obviously knowledgeable in her field and she also has a pretty good sense of humor. However... if you have taken a handful of psychology courses, the framework will seem identical to classes you've taken in the past.
The whole class grade was based on tests. Attending wasn't mandatory but she likes keeping tracks of who's coming to class.
I learned absolutely nothing! She literally will go from talking about a story from her past to putting up a scene from a movie and then all the way back to something else she thinks we need to know about. I have learned more from the back of a cereal box than I have in this class. Do not take her classes, trust me.
Applies real-world examples to the lecture, and makes the subject easy to understand. She doesn't go over the entirety of the chapter in each lecture, so be aware that you'll need to read the assigned chapters and study in order to get a good grade. Focus on what she covered in lecture for quizzes, but study the chapter too.
Don't buy textbook. Karen is an awful professor. She is disorganized to the point that it affects your grade, but then won't make up for her mistakes. Also extremely disrespectful in all communications. Gives very little time for quizzes & exams. Slowest speaker in the world. She does give extra credit, but that's the only good thing I could say.
Professor Chenier was very engaging and easy to talk to. Her class is very interesting and you learn a lot. There is low pressure and if you do the work you will get a good grade.
Karen was alright. Chill prof and just hw once a week which is easy btw but sometimes unclear. sometimes she goes off track during lectures. topics are interesting. took it for psychology credit and during covid. no quizzes just one paper at the end and you can choose topic. take it if you need to but you will not suffer in this class.
There are kind of a lot of little discussion type assignments for this class, but they're easy. Prof. Chenier was super caring and understanding during the pandemic, couldn't have asked for a more forgiving and kind professor. She genuinely wants her students to do well and is not out to give you a back grade.
Professor Chenier is so sweet and bright! Clear and transparent about class expectations and cares deeply about her area of work as well as students. Lectures are thorough and she always brings positive vibes to each lecture.
She is the most sweetest professors ever, has the best calmest speaking voice I've ever heard. Lots of quizzes and make sure you read the textbook and attend the lectures.
She was so amazing and so kind, the lectures were well put together and all the quizzes went over everything we talked about in class. She really cares about psychology and was very passionate about what she was teaching.
I wish I could rate her higher. She was very kind and understanding. Her lectures were very engaging and her exams were straightforward.
Informative class, appreciate the no-nonsense approach to the material. I appreciate real-world experience because I want to graduate ASAP and move on with my career. Thankfully, she navigated the class discussions and opinions well because I tend not to like Q&As. Free text, too!
I really enjoyed Dr. Chenier's class and have learned a lot. I have never talked so much about class outside of class - haha. I loved doing every assignment and appreciate her patience and understanding with students.
