Great teacher. I had her for Math 251 over the summer. She makes the class fun and interesting, you can see that she enjoys teaching and loves math; her notes were really helpful. I WOULD REALLY RECOMMEND HER AS A TEACHER.
I had her for this summer too and she is SO helpful! Her print-out notes that she hands out are lifesavers for the quizzes. The only thing I really didn't like was that she only gave us like 8 questions per quiz, so each problem was heavily weighted (she gives partial credit though). She'll meet with you before class on test-days to help prep you :)
Very strict teacher but also very helpful. Don't take this class if you want to just cruise through because you will fail. She's not very lenient in terms of her grading so you either get the material or you don't.
Incredible teacher! made the class really simple and easy. I had to retake this class and she made everything crystal clear, something the other professor didnt. Helpful and understanding!
great teacher,,, her notes help you out alot and she helps you out when you need its the best teacher ive ever had (math 35)! before this class i use to hate math but now i love it! im taking her math class again next semester for math 45...no text book required
Shes very nice and very helpful! She gives hand outs of every section your going over and is very thorough, hard not to pay attention in class, she seems like she really likes math and makes the class pretty interesting. My only qualm is that she doesn't drop a test, had it not been for that then i would have passed with a B instead of a C
yes she is a really nice, energetic and a helpful teacher. You will automatically be her friend. I didn't know that she ued to teach at my high school before. She give hw evryday like 10problems then hw for mathxl which she will give you a week or more to do. Its really easy if you know what your doing. Anyways I would reccomend this ptofessor to ev
She is such a great teacher! She is so helpful and doesn't go on until everyone understands the material. quiz everyday but very easy and its helpful. She has a lot of energy and is never in a bad mood.I recommend her 100%!
She is a good teacher. She gives open note quizzes almost every day, Hw is due when you have an exam. She makes material easy to understand. She makes notes/quizzes available on blackboard blank/ completed so that you can use them to study. very energetic & helpful. very strict on attendance. overall I would recommend
took this class over summer. it is hard, but so worth it. karen is awesome! she makes sure you understand everything. will help you out with questions. uses the calculator!!!! also, open note quizzes! awesome class, highly recommend it! she is very dedicated to her students.
This is one of the best math teachers! I took her for Math-45, and she makes math easy. Do come on time to her class and dont miss..that is one of her pet peves. She will make sure that you understand before moving on. She has a passion for Math so she really enjoys teaching and that always helps.
She is the best math professor I have ever taken. She actually cares about her students and she is very flexible. Come to class on time because she will not be pleased and make sure that you know it. Her exams are reasonable and use her office hours, they are very helpful.
She's an amazing teacher! She is very willing to help you, just ask. Don't come late, and don't miss her class. If you put effort in, she will too.
GREAT TEACHER, HW is done on MathXL.. Always encouraging questions so participation is welcomed. If you are not good at math she will give you the extra push or time to get you there! She offers office hrs and emailing.. only down side but IS reasonable is she is EXTREMELY STRICT on time&attendance.. show up 2 minutes late and you are marked
first off, i wouldnt say she is the easiest teacher because she is not.. she will make you work hard and push yourself BUT ISNT THAT THE POINT! if you are lazy and dont want a challenge then maybe shes not for you because she wont just hand you the grade but she is reasonable, EXTREMELY CLEAR AND HELPFUL! BEST MATH TEACHER IVE EVER HAD!
She will make you love math, believe or not. She is very willing to help you, you can reach her at her office and she will solve any doubts you have very nicely. She cares for her students, its like being in elementary school again lol, but seriously take her you will learn math.
She is a fantastic teacher. She's won teacher's awards and totally deserves them. But you MUST BE ON TIME. She is totally serious about attendance. If you don't get the material she does everything she can to help you, but be prepared to study.
She is a good professor, one of the most helpful teachers ive ever had. She goes out of her way to try to help people. Notes are very clear, gives out a lot of quizzes but they help you stay on track with the material. The class itself is difficult and it takes a lot of commitment to pass, you have to have good trig and algebra skills coming in
She is a great teacher, dedicated to her students and tries her best. you know when somebody really likes his job, well she is one of those persons. i highly recommend her. she is strict about lateness so you can imply what she is especting of you, and about the homework there's too many don't fall behind or you will lose many points.
She is overall an outstanding professor and she is extremely organized! She does give quizzes at the beginning of every class, but you are allowed to use notes. For the exams, she gives you a study guide! Just as long as you re-work the notes you'll do fine!
1 of the best, if not THE best, math instructor @ SWC. Very organized & approachable! Types & prints out her own notes, only uses the book for HW. If your final exam grade's higher than your lowest exam grade (from earlier in the semester), then the final exam grade replaces that low test grade. Lots of quizzes but 3 lowest scores are dropped.
She uses Math XL. Class is pretty easy. It just comes down to YOU reviewing!! She's very sweet, enjoys what she does, and is very helpful. Her tests aren't too hard. I did all my homework, did good on quizzes and pretty good on exams. I failed my final (very very hard!), and got a B. Book is unnecessary. Lots of word problems though
She's a very nice and understanding teacher. She is very clear when she teaches. Quizzes everyday from the material we learned from last class, Don't be late consistently, She gives you a review for the Exams and Final. No book required, only uses MathXL. Doesn't like when you use your phone during class. Make sure you study. I hate Math & got an A
She is strict but you will learn more in this class then you've ever learned. Keep up with the work and go to class and you will get an A.
She is the MOST amazing professor I've ever had the pleasure to meet! She is very passionate about math and incredibly intelligent, she makes sure you understand the material before moving on and is sooo sweet! Me and my friend miss her already. We love you Mrs. Cliffe!
Whatever you do, don't take her early morning class, it's really hard to pay attention because of how tired you can be and all the work you have to do. Otherwise, she is a really helpful teacher.
Really helpful professor, She explains everything so well, great attitude, favorite math professor in swc
She is by far the most organized and acommadating professor at Southwestern College. Had I not had personal tissues plaguing me at the beginning of the semester, I am confident I would have walked away with an A. Her notes guide you through the course, and working the quiz keys really prepare you for the exam. Highly recommend. Miss you Prof Cliffe
She cares about you learning the material. If you study the notes and quizzes you will pass the tests. She is very fair and helpful. She does expect you to attend and class and do the work. One of the best math teachers I have taken.
Awesome professor!!! Very clear lectures, fast-pace but willing to slow down and help out if needed. Quiz (worth 10%) almost everyday makes this class very challenging. If you want A, you better keep up with all the homework (worth 5%) and review the material everyday. Total of 4 tests, but pretty hard.
Very organized. Quiz at the beginning of the every class. Outstanding teaching skill. Exams are pretty fair and grading as well.
Prof. Cliffe is a good teacher but she might be strict. She expects every student to ATTEND and BE ON TIME every day to class. She doesn't like phones to be in front of your desk, so put it away and on silent mode before beginning class. She gives quizzes every day before class, so study hard because they are worth more than your homework.
The only thing I don't like about Ms. Cliffe? that she doesn't teach every math class at southwestern! She's an amazing example of what a professor should be like, helpful, encouraging, but at the same time firm and demanding. While the class is not easy, it is more than fair, and if you put in the work, then an A is attainable.
Prof. Cliffe is a great Math teacher if you can hang with her fast pace teaching: (I was barley halfway writing her math problem, when she was already done solving it, explaining it, and starting the next Math problem.) if you're a slow pace learner and care about your GPA, I will suggest another Math teacher for your Math 45.
Karen Cliffe is the most passionate math professor at SWC. She really cares about her students and you can easily tell that she loves teaching. She provides handouts and has quizzes almost everyday. Keep them! Do the HW and study hard. She's always there for you if you have any questions.
I took this class for honors last semester. She was the best professor I had at SWC. She was always there to help her students, and genuinely cared how we did. She replaces your lowest test if your final exam grade is better. I'm taking her again for Calc 2 next semester.
Honestly she is an amazing professor and really knows her subject! Lots of homework but gives you an entire weekend to do it. Replaces your lowest exam with your final grade if you do better on your final. Every week quizzes but drops lowest 3. Gives typed notes in class and posts them on blackboard filled and empty in case she was going too fas
She is an amazing math professor and really knows her subject. From the first day she tells you to expect a quiz every day on what was taken last lecture. Her quizzes are open notes, and she drops lowest 3. Replaces your lowest exam with your final if you did better on the final. Lots of HW but gives time to do it.
Reminds me of my mom in the sense that she'll be there for me when it's challenging, but if I'm being stupid she'll let me know. Prof Cliffe is a wonderful professor; very passionate about Calc and teaching; she has her humorous moments. Quizzes and exams were standard I think - nothing crazy but not too easy either. I'd take her for another Math.
Professor Cliffe cares for her students! Beware she has you take quizzes on EVERY section that she has taught the following day. If you miss more than 3 quizzes you still have a chance to pass. She is a great teacher, no textbook needed it is all in mymathlab. gives you a handout for notes just write what she writes. just DO NOT MISS CLASS && STUDY
Very good professor, I definitely plan to take her again. Her lectures are clear and easy to understand. There is a quiz the day after the lecture for each chapter section so reviewing notes is a must. She offers a lot of help and is easy to reach. She comes early to class to answer any questions. A lot of homework using mymathlab.
Best math professor I've had so far, she knows what she is doing and the class might seem overwhelming but if you really dedicate the time to study and understand every subject it's the best class you will have. She inspired me to be the best I can be. Prof Cliffe gives you all the tools you need to succeed.
She's the best math teacher! I took her for CALC 1,2,3 and I definitely recommend you take her for all your math classes. She genuinely cares for her students. She will make sure you're doing well and you're understanding the material. She goes the extra mile for her students.
I love her she's such a mom figure and she helps you out the best she can! I took her for Calc 2 and I've never understood math better until I took her class! She's such a great professor I recommend her 100%
Cliff is not made to teach students that are slow like me. She goes through the material very fast and no one seems to follow her unless this is the second time you have taken this class. She looks as if she is too tired to deal with students or does not like to deal with average students well. I think most of positive comments were written by her.
She's a great teacher but can be pretty strict at times. She's very strict about having phones out in class and participation but otherwise, she's amazing at explaining certain concepts. I'm rarely confused in her class, even though its a Calc 2 class. Lots of homework but they prepare you for the tests. Expect quizzes almost every day.
GIVE THIS WOMAN A RAISE. I transferred already so I can say that prof Cliffe is the best math prof out there. She cares about students, keeps you engaged and learning. She provides handouts for you to fill out as you follow along her lecture. She reviews before tests, gives out a decent amount of homework and it is very accessible. I miss her :c
She really is a great professor. I had been sick for a month and had been coughing terribly during an exam, she had let me go home early and take the test another day. Had I not gotten sick, I would've been able to get an A. She explains topics very well and always responds to her emails. Perfect 5/7
I got an A in Calc 1(Medin) & Calc 2 (Sikter), with Cliffe an A was more difficult. If you got high A's in previous Calc classes, you can expect a low A in Cliffe. If you get low A's expect a B. Be prepared to put in more effort than before to get the grade you want; ask around for old exams! She's a passionate, hard working, very organized teacher
Very nice professor goes a little fast but is more than willing to help in office hours I like how the notes and stuff are available online I hope to take her next semester!
Professor Cliffe is by far one of the best educators there is. Calculus is not an easy class, but with her teaching style you can definitely succeed in her class. She cares very much about her students, and wants you to learn and retain the material. If you have questions she will answer them and help you but you have to put in the work as well.
I'm taking another teacher for Math 251 and is better than her teaching style in my opinion. If you are a slow learner I'd reconsider taking her class. If you have not so good of a grade, and don't go to her office hours for tutoring, she will pick on you in class by always calling on you.
As far as math goes, she's a pretty picky grader, which is necessary because Calc II requires argumentation unlike other math subjects. Her class was pretty straightforward like other classes, but the constant quizzes were what threw me off, but they were worth it for the extra practice. Highly recommend her! Don't be afraid to ask for help!
If you took rasky for cal 1, she almost the same as this professor only with more quizzes. She will tell you when you're going to have your quiz and those quizzes help you for the exams and final. The professor is straightforward and gives you a small study guide for every exam.
This is the first professor Ive ever had the desire to rate. I did not go to office hours, but shes extremely friendly in class, especially coming early to class to answer questions on homework. The work she does is fairly easy to understand and her quizzes/tests are very straightforward. First math class I felt that I really grasped bc of her.
I have taken her class for Math 250 & 251 and she is a great professor. Go to her office hours if you need help. She gives a lot of quizzes which is helpful to study for the exam and final
Don't take Calc252 with her if you wan to mountain your high GPA. A LOT OF homework and Quizzes. Exams are extremely long, people have no time to finish it. She is a hard grader also. It's a 4 unit class, but feels like 8 unit class. She explains very fast that it's very easy to get lost. DON'T TAKE HER!
I enjoyed my time in Professor Cliffe's Calc III course. Straight forward. No surprises as the syllabus plans out when the homework, quizzes, and tests will be. There are 4 tests. She gives you a formula sheet for each test. She drops 2 or 3 lowest quiz scores. Make sure to know her pre-req review at the start. It will come up over the semester.
This class was interesting and you definitely learn a lot, but Mrs. Cliffe is not a good teacher. She's a very tough grader, takes points off for every detail, and she's not approachable. She also gives too many quizzes. I do not recommend.
Professor Cliffe is the best math professor I have taken she takes the time to make sure you understand the material. That means if you make a mistake it'll cost you but she has tutoring sessions and will take the time if you need more help outside of office hours. She's passionate about teaching and her students take her if you want to learn!
She's a great teacher all things considered, weather it be forgiving HW or helping you to understand things. However, the only things that seem to matter are the exams. There's two parts written & oral. Grading here is cruel. Advice? For oral don't go over problems you got wrong, make sure you know the ones you got right. It's made to make you fail
AMAZING! I wish I had taken her for the entire calc series. She encourages you to read the book but has lecture notes that you follow from videos. Gives lot of partial credit on quizzes and exams. She is very understanding, and you can tell she cares for her students and is passionate about teaching.
One of the best professors I've had during the transition to remote learning. She makes her own pre-recorded lectures and has weekly zoom meetings to go over any questions you may have had over the homework/quizzes. There are a lot of quizzes but it helps you refine what you need to study. She's very approachable and always willing to help you.
She is an amazing math professor! Calc 3 is not that easy, you definitely will have to work hard to get an A. There's a ton of HW and it is quite difficult. If you have questions don't be afraid to ask her. She gives great feedback on exams, read them! I did an incomplete for her class bc I was hospitalized for a month. She was very compassionate.
Best calc teacher hands down. She always tries her best for everyone to understand and encourages questions and never puts you down. Would take her for the rest of my math classes if I could.
She is one of the best math professors I have taken (took her for 251, 252)! She is very nice, caring, and is genuinely passionate about teaching. She will definitely make you work for your grade, but as long as you put in the effort and try to attend her live sessions, you will do well. And don't be afraid to ask for help, she's very approachable!
Miss Karen Cliffe is an absolute professional at her job. Very flexible, MEMORIZE YOUR FORMULAS. Just like Rasky, she wants you to do things her way which is understandable and sometimes can be a bit mean to the whole class but that is to wake people up and not procrastinate. Exams are heavy (in the amount of time given). Oh, her Musings are funny!
She thinks she is the local sheriff and needs to make sure no one cheats. Most of her energy is spent on catching people versus teaching her students. She does not listen to her students and talks over them. Students are very intimidated by her. She needs to teach more and spend more time with her weak students. I would not recommend her to anyone.
definitely not a good teacher. i passed with a c- in her class, but i had to do a lot of the learning on my own. she seems to be mad a lot of the time, so i didnt feel comfortable asking her question. also i think some of the 5 reviews on here are fake, they seem pretty repetitive and dont reflect her as a teacher accurately.
Prof. Cliffe is seriously lightning in a bottle where the math dept at SWC is concerned. She holds office hours in the math center so she's easily accessible. Some reviews claim she's too harsh, but if you show her you're taking the class seriously, she's more than happy to help you along your path. I really couldn't have asked for a better teacher
Professor Cliffe is such a great teacher, she knows what she teaches and is very flexible when it comes to questions inside or outside of class. She is always willing to help struggling students even during the weekends. She encourages students to ask questions. Her exams and quizzes aren't that difficult, you just have to study and learn formulas
Professor Cliffe is a sweetheart. Some reviewer said she seemed mad all the time, but in my experience that wasn't the case at all. I saw myself in the need to request an EW due to a series of difficulties that I endured during online classes/COVID-19, but she's engaging, highly accessible, and puts in a lot of time/effort to help students.
She's an ok math teacher, I wouldn't say anything spectacular, but def not a 5/5 professor. The number of positive reviews in relation to my classmate's testimony makes me believe that there is some sort of "manipulation" in the reviews. All in all, heavy professor, gets mad easy, hard exams, but she knows what she's teaching. Your GPA will suffer.
I took her calc 1 class, and let me tell you, if you have the chance to take her DO IT. She's an amazing professor with awesome lectures, and she truly wants you to pass the class. Never be afraid to ask her any questions. Her tests can be tough, but they're doable. 100% would take her again.
ODE is weird since many of the "standard" topics (P-L theorem, exact, mixing salt) aren't actually used IRL. Nevertheless, lectures felt substantive and motivated and never rushed, which is hard to pull off while still covering everything. HW was comfortable and exams/quizzes very fair. She's always open to questions. Overall very enjoyable class.
She should have been a high school teacher. All she cares about is if we are cheating or not. She treats us as if we all are cheaters. Relax Prof. We paid to be educated and not to constantly prove to you that is our work. Work on your manners and your nerves. Take someone else. I guarantee you she is writing mote of the good comments for herself.
"I have an A in this class because I am working on my own to graduate this semester. However, she is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. She makes everything confusing and constantly doubts your integrity. I think she used to be either an elementary or high school teacher. She is not cut out for college. Take someone else, if you ask me."
She is NOT a caring, patient, or considerate teacher. She demands a lot but does not deliver. She thinks it is her way or highway. She thinks everyone is cheating and is very nervous about it. She probably writes all of the positive comments about herself. I would not take her ever again and would not recommend her to anyone.
Professor Cliffe is more focused of catching students cheating than actually teaching them. She will harass you until you answer her emails and agree to meet with her when she believes you have cheated. If your work does not align with the exact way she taught it she will give you a zero or acuse you of cheating. Save yourself the headache!!
DO NOT DO MATH 120 ONLINEE, I REPEAT NO MATH 120 ONLINE!!! Overall it was awful and a really bad experience. This online course is not for the weak. You need to be determined to sacrafice lots and i mean lots of hours to this professor and her lectures. GRADING QUIZZES, TEST, EXAMS IS SOO PICKY. IF THE WORK IS NOT DONE HER WAY YOU'LL GET 0 CREDIT!
She is really intense, she is always making questions about if you cheat. You need to attend to tutoring if you are willing to pass the class. Her class is super hard and takes a ton of time. The positive thing is that she is always giving you feedback and replying pretty fast in canvas inbox or email. Overall, I hate this class it was a nightmare.
Do not have class with her! She expects students to take an hour quiz where you have 50 minutes to take the quiz while writing your solutions but her way of solving expect to have 15 questions and the remaining 10 minutes to scan and upload all your paper to canvas. If you turn in your upload work late she will deduct alot of points! Expect 6 page.
Professor Cliffe is the best Calculus professor I have ever had! She is very straight-forward and organized. It is clear that she cares about her students and wants them to do well. She offers so much support outside of class and replies to messages promptly. Quizzes and lectures notes are the most helpful to study for exams. Highly recommend!!!!!!
Professor Cliffe is an outstanding individual, and very insightful in her office hours so you are most definitely encouraged to go. Although sometimes her lectures seem to go by so fast you don't have a chance to blink, and her instruction over Laplace was incredibly vague at some points— she is still more than happy to help where you need it!
Cliffe must have been a high school or grade school teacher and not college level. She should be focusing on teaching her students and not so much policing them. She worries about us cheating and thinks we all cheat. She talks too much and intimidate her students so no one dares to ask questions. She is there to get you. I would not recommend her.
She's decent, I just don't understand why every little thing has to become an assignment, or why her exams are unnecessarily tedious and complicated. Okay yes, we know how to factor and multiply exponents yes, we get it. Why are we being graded on our ability to factor or multiply exponents and not our understanding of DIFF EQ's? and harshly too?
Professor Cliffe is a great professor; I took her for math 251 as well and she prepares you for the next courses. Her grading and expectations are clear, and she has pushed me to be the best student I can be. Her exams and quizzes are very doable and are fair. She has prepared me for this class and my physics courses. I highly recommend her.
be prepared for working hard also you need a lots of time for hw
Prof Cliffe requires quiz problems to be solved on paper but answered on canvas, all within 1 hour. After the quiz, you only have 10 minutes to scan and submit your written work. She also requires students to hand-copy unhelpful notes onto printouts for every single lecture. This class feels like it's more about busy work than the material.
This course was a very negative experience. I found the instructor's teaching style ineffective and disrespectful. The instructor frequently interrupted students and showed a lack of interest in feedback. The workload was excessive and unreasonable. I would strongly advise students to seek alternative teacher. Simply not worth the headache. Awful!
Cliffe's course posed considerable learning and passing difficulties. I perceived the instructor's teaching style as entirely ineffective and occasionally disrespectful. In particular, when students attempted to ask questions, her demeanor suggested it was their fault, often responding with sharp and sarcastic remarks. The workload was excessive.
loads of work its very excessive and time consuming and hard to actually spare time to part that and do the homework at the same. tough grader and very detailed and specific so it is hard to do well when your trying to do your best. overall, lots of work every week and long lectures and lots of required notes
There are challenges with the instructor's teaching style and the volume of work assigned to us. She thinks we are all cheating in her class and is sarcastic. They are better instructors available at SWC with less chip on their shoulders than her. I do not recommend her.
heavy work and shares her unprofessional comments to you when you do something wrong in the quiz/tests instead of lifting you up or try to encourage you. Lots of work and lectures each week it is hard to actually learn and her grading is unfair.
My favorite Professor in SWC, in CA, in the US. She is so nice, I took her Math251&253, easy to understand, very kind and patient, answered tons of my questions, some of them maybe silly. I would take every single of her class if I can. Thank you Professor Cliffe, enjoy your retirement.
