Very nice and helpful! get to take the exams over again at home! nice person!!
veryyyy niceee class! I would definitely recommend this teacher to everyone! Good and very organized lecture and easily understood though the exams are not necessarily easy. But with teacher this good it's worth it! Very sweet and nice lady also.
She is a very very nice person, great teaching, great lecture, very cheerful(she gives out some extra credit too)
A great teacher and a damn hot lady
I love Karen, she is the best teacher I’ve had so far.
Very nice, organized, and helpful teacher. She really cares that you learn the subject. She was the best teacher I ever had in Biology!
She makes being a scientist so COOL!
Nice and very organized instructor! Just copy her excellent handwriting and listen to her carefully, then EASY "A" for sure. You only need to study what she wrote on the board to have an "A". Multiple choice questions except lab tests.
Did not teach well!!! Exams are hard, Stuff are messy.
Great teacher...clear lectures..hard lab..but overall a really enthusiastic teacher..knowleadgeable too..and for all hommie's out there...she is hott for a lady her age...
she is simply the best!!!
She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Her lectures are very well prepared and easy to follow. You will learn a lot in her class. Her exams are challenging, but the key is to go to lectures. Then skim the book afterwards.
Awesome teachers! Lectures are clear, tests are hard but fair. She makes biology so much fun!
A very very nice teacher. Her lecture is clear and grading is fair. The exams are a little tricky though. Attending lecture regularly and taking good notes are very important. She's always ready to listen to you and answer your questions. Highly recommended.
she is the best biology teacher i had. she is really easy going teacher. she is clear in lecture. her tests are easy but hard in the same time. she is cool and hot. TAKE HER FOR SUREEEEEEEE.
She is absolutely a great great teacher. Very nice and extremely helpful. Her tests are a little bit hard, but you will learn a lot. It's not an easy A, but you totally can get A if you study. Fun class.
Crystal clear lectures, however, her exams are tricky (circle all multiple choice=disaster.) Very nice professor and is willing to help you out. However, be fearful if you have her for lab. Don't ever miss lecture (most of the test materials are from lecture, not book.) PAY ATTENTION TO SMALL DETAILS SHE SAYS!
Karen is the most prepared teacher I have encountered. Exam questions are all from lecture. A fair amount of studying is required to pass the class. This is Karen's favorite class to teach, and she does a great job of breaking down the complex subject of immunology.
Hard class. Memorize and understand all of her lectures to get an A. Don't bother buying the text. Just take her lecture notes and go over the notes at home using google or any bio book. HER LECTURE IS EVERYTIN U NEED TO KNOW.
Her class is awesome. She is one of the few teachers that really shows a dedication to the art of Biology. She does not force her students to finish lab early, like many lab instructors. Her class is not hard! Why? Because she explains the concepts well. To get an A in the class, study her lectures in conjunction with the book. Study all pictures!
Great teacher.
the best teacher i've had at foothill so far. I love her teaching style as well as her personality! The class is fairly hard, but she doesn't ask any specifics, so make sure to undersatnd the concepts really well and u'r ready to go.
She is one of the best, but her test is hard and her lab final is "practical". You have only 2 min to answer questions at each station. I am not used to this style. I did bad and it pulls my grade from A to B. She gives many extra points. It is hard to get A from her class, but not B. The overall average of class is B.
She is very nice and helpful, but her exam is not easy at all. Not easy to get an A for her class.
Hard class to get an 'A' in but you learn a lot. One of the hottest teachers at Foothill.
well.. i have to agree with the others..definitely one of the hottest teacher in foothill.. her class is so much fun.. she's nice and very helpful too.. after taking her class i'm so much into bio.. her passion for bio will eventually affect u.. great teacher.. great class..
Karen is a very well prepared instructor. All her test questions come from her class notes. If you have good notes and study you will do well.
Best thing about Erickson: if you don't understand something the first time, she's got five other ways to explain it. Awesome teacher = excellent class.
She seems really nice and I appreciate her organization.
Very organized, gives thorough instruction on the material, attractive and fun personality. She gives some easy extra credit (showing up on time) but it's very limited relative to how it will affect your grade. Getting an A is HARD, getting a B is so-so and passing is easy. I expected to get an A and got a B. 94% b4 finals 85% after.
Ms. Erickson was absolutely wonderful. She is really enthusiastic and finds ways to make the material fun. she is also VERY organized. for tests, you just have to study your notes and her powerpoints. make sure to study the details for the final because its worth a lot of points. if you have questions-- ask her. she will be happy to answer.
Spectacular lectures and awesome class! Even though its hard to earn an A in the class, earning a B isn't too difficult. She is helpful during office hours and labs were fun. There were 2 lecture tests and a final, and 1 lab midterm/final. Overall, I definitely recommend her class to anyone, just do your reading and do not procrastinate studying.
the professor is really nice and knowledgeable but omg is she hard! I thought i was going to atleast get a B in her class but ended up with my first a C+in college ever! Dont underestimate her niceness...study hard for all her tests and look at all her lecture notes for guidance...
The best Bio teacher you will ever have! crazy organized, extremelly helful, her notes are crystal clear! However unless you rock the 2lec exams and first lab exam, you wont get an A! both her lab final and lec final are killers!!!!!!!!! really hard to get an A!!!!!! but you will definitely learn a lot. Her passion is infectious! i'd derecommend he
She is the HARDEST grader I have ever met. I am a straight A student, and I tried really hard to get a B in this class. Sure, she's is happy and forces a TON of material on you, but her tests are completely IMPOSSIBLE and final was just a disaster. Questions on the tests were confusing and unclear.
the most enthusiastic professor i ever met~love her~
Mrs. Erickson is the best biology professor EVER! I was scared at first but she's really amazing(&gorgeous, too). It's not an easy class, but try your best, it's definitely possible to get an A!She's very friendly, approachable, and understanding. Her lectures are crystal-clear, practically a walking textbook, too so don't be shy to ask questions!
Prof. Erickson is an amazing teacher. She gives lots of useful examples, articles and reference material because she wants you to "get" Biology. The Labs are really interesting and involved. One word of advice is not to miss lectures because it's the best way to make sure you're studying the right material.
nice teach. attendance not mandatory. makes bio interesting by giving extra ref materials if interested, and lectures r often precise, clear, to the point. i got an A- in this class even thou i was above 90%. but an A shouldnt be THAT hard, if u lik study 5 hrs fr each test, i think u should b fine! and UC Davis grad!n gorgeous too! my rolemodel
Great teacher. Knows her stuff and wants you to understand too. She is very helpful if you ask. Lectures are very clear. Part of test scores are a redo of the test in a group this really helps cement the info in your head. I would highly recommend this teacher
This class isn't easy but luckily Ms. Erickson is a great teacher. She has lots of really good lecture slides but I would recommend coming to lecture b/c her explanations are helpful. Her exams are hard but she lets you take the test a second time as a group which really helps you learn the material. Her labs are fun too! Take this class!
Really good teacher! brace yourselves though because her final is killer. I think the average was 64% for my class. Also, the lab practical is very high stress. the q's aren't hard but it's hard to concentrate in that environment. You will learn a lot if you work for it though.
She's nice, shes an actual field biologist it seems. If your taking this with chem, do not listen to her when she says you dont have to memorize this. Her class is alot more like a very broad general chemistry. I feel like shes teaching us as if were in elementary though. She warns us when she uses big words like ASSISTED DIFFUSION.
Hugely helpful, organized, and well-spoken. I had her only for lecture, but she was great about answering questions and replying to e-mail. Her tests (67% of grade) are really difficult, so real studying is required, and lectures are a real benefit for exam grades. She is a lovely woman and dedicated to her job.
So organized. She really cares about her students. You learn a lot. Getting an A is really hard, but for sure 100% you can pass the class.
Shes an amazing lecturer. Midterms are pretty difficult but its not hard to get a B or A. 2 midterms and a final. The midterms are out of 150 you take it twice. The first time is in classs; 75 questions in 1 hour. 2nd time is in lab, open book open notes open resources! each is worth 75 points. Take her, shes amazing!
she is such a great teacher. but the exams are a little bit too rush. so you really have to memorize all the stuff before taking the exams. there will be no time for thinking.
I love this teacher! She has a really up to date knowledge of biology. She covers what you need to know to be prepared for the future. Lectures are very organized and interesting. She is an ideal comm. college teacher. Cons: I could tell she was not a Ph.D, didn't have that professor genius mind that leaves you in awe. Still, it works here.
She is the best professor! Gives interesting, clear lectures that makes you want to go to class. She is very helpful and care about students. The material in 1A is pretty challenging but she made things clear and easier to learn. I really enjoyed her class and would highly recommend her. PS. She is also the best dressed professor.
Erickson's lectures are crystal clear, but she does go over a lot of material in class. You can tell she enjoys teaching bio which makes her very apporachable. Her test questions can be a bit tricky, but if you study and are well prepared, you'll do fine.
I had Erickson for the lecture of BIOL 1B.. Not only is this lady sassy and hot, she is extremely smart/competent, and her lectures are very thorough. She is constantly coming up with analogies to help students to understand complex topics. She is very consistent in lecturing and fair in grading. I loved her class!
Very surprised by all positive ratings. Instructor treats students like they are in grade school; high hand-holding. If you are a professional taking this class, be prepared to manage this style of conducting a class. What she writes can be mis-understood very easily too. She expects the student to make leaps when they shouldn't need to.
True Gem in foothill, Truly a Stanford Bio1A. However, this is only foothill "college". She finds meaning in taking away ur points, not in ur learning, and strives to show how hard her class is. Bio1A should be enjoyable for prospective bio majors but this makes you want to change ur major. 6 out of 75 students got A or A-, something to think 'bout
This teacher is very bad at teaching. De Anza has bio 1A too! Mrs. Erickson is entertaining during lecture but completely lacks the ability to communicate her lessons and makes a point out of taking away points for any miniscule detail.
She makes difficult materials easy! Biol1A is hard but Prof. Erickson explains everything so well! Mid terms were a bit tricky but if you are prepared, you will do fine. Final was EASY compared to the midterms!! Besides, she uses up-to-date news to help students understand the concepts! She is just perfect!
Absolutely a good professor, Mrs.Erickson explains concept very well in class, but exams are hard and tricky, so you have to read the book carefully for details. Highly recommend her.
While I did like biology I did not like this class. The professor was nice but not a great teacher. The test and the lectures don't even match. Unless you do additional outside studying it's hard to get an A
While, the professor gave good enough lectures, but imo, I couldn't see what all the rave reviews go for. She does not cover everything in the textbook and yet expects to test you on 50% non-lectured material. If you are taking her class for transferring or pre-health profession, reconsider.
Mrs. Erickson is a nice person yet not fond of her teaching skills. The multiple choice scan-tron midterms were horrible. I thought I knew it all until then. Messed up my GPA with a C. Expected to know the book, lecture, and homework...tricky questions.
her classes are interesting and enjoyable but her exams were hard. Almost impossible to get an A+ because she expects you to be perfect
Excellent, explains things thoroughly, very nice, very clear. Tests are hard so study everything thoroughly and ask questions. Don't underestimate the test difficult - you need to know everything in the book but she is willing to help!
Stingy grader. Knocks off points for trivial reasons. Daily in-class activities so attendance is mandatory. Tests are tricky.
Nice teacher willing to help. Her curriculum is off though. 1 homework assignment a week except the finals week, she gives 3. So you cram for all 3 homework, cram for her overall class tests lab and lecture, and cram for all your other classes your taking, triple whammy. Tough tests, must do outside reading and make sure you comprehend the material
Extremely tough on grading as the quarter progresses. Attendance is mandatory, expect to learn on your own, since content explained during lectures does not truly reflect the material covered during an exam. Appears to be a wonderful person, yet clarity on learning objectives is somewhat emphasized. Consider taking other professors first.
Good teacher. Very nice, supportive, and passionate about the subject. However, her tests are evil!!! Questions are not clear and she marks off for things that do not have much to do with your understanding of the subject.
I was extremely disappointed in this teacher, knowing how many pleasant things some people said about her. No matter how hard your work for this class, it's just never enough. She takes off points for nothing and doesn't explain why. Her midterm questions sometimes didn't have anything to do with the material covered. Not recommended.
Very passionate and approachable professor. Her MC tests are straight forward if go over the reading and especially her lecture notes. She's tough on the written portion of her exams since precise terminologies are expected. Daily lecture activities and weekly lab assignments are easy points to earn to boost your grade.
LOVED THIS CLASS. She is incredibly passionate about what she does. She cares for the students immensely and is VERY approachable and understanding. Her lectures are crystal-clear and there is nothing unexpected on the exam. She is funny and keeps the material interesting. Pay attention in class and take good notes. One of the best bio professors.
Karen is a great professor who just wants to see her students succeed. A lot of these reviews give her a hard time, but in reality if you show up to her lectures and display an interest in the subject, you'll do just fine in her class. For her tests, part of the multiple choice section you work with a group on.
She was AMAZING. Her class is a lot of work, but she makes it fun at the same time. Awesome lectures. Her tests aren't overwhelming, but she is a picky grader; expects precise terminologies and high specificity, so be careful. Provides tons of in class participation points, so be sure not to miss class; those can really save your grade!
Nice proff; however, her exam is horrible, she is looking for a very precise term, her class is tough, don't take her if you do not have a good background of biology in high school
Pros: Approachable, fair, & high energy. Cons: No study guides, non detailed slides, over complicated exam structure, last minute HW/Lab assignments, forces students to sit in specific seats, and has you raise your hands to be quiet (Strange). Not the best fit for adults or professionals.
Karen is a wonderful person, very approachable and friendly. However, her exams and lecture slides aren't very clear. Not an easy A, but it's possible. You have to really understand what she's looking for on the exams to do well. Participation points boost your grade, so attend lecture. I liked her, but not her teaching/grading style.
She is okay but her exam is horrible, there are no study guide provide, her slides are very board detail. Try to avoid her if you can.
One of the nicest Professor; however her lecture and lab exams are horrible. She doesn't provide any study guide. She doesn't put a lot of information into her slides that what makes student confused.
Great personalty; however her exams are super hard. No study guide will be provided. Avoid her if you can.
Erickson was nice but not a great teacher. The tests are super hard and the lectures don't even match. Do not recommend this to anyone that want to keep a decent GPA
coming from a UC level, her tests are really hard.. stay away.
Karen's super cool. However, her tests are hard. They're very conceptual & analytical - not just stuff you can memorize out of the textbook. Her lectures are pretty abstract, and don't help much for exam prep. Participation points can boost your grade by a few percentage points, so attend lecture. Don't take her if you don't want to ruin your GPA.
I really enjoyed her class! Lectures are very informative and she makes them interesting. MasteringBio hw can be quite long though. Labs are fairly easy and lab quizzes/exam were fair to difficult. Tests can be pretty tough but she tells you exactly what to study, so do that and you'll be okay. Her class is fair it just requires hard work.
Karen teaches the lab portion of my Bio 1A class and it was amazing. She was caring, approachable and helpful throughout lab. Although she is quite strict and her tests are not easy, you will do great as long as you listen to what she says and study well.
Karen, for the most part, was a wonderful prof. She keeps labs very engaging, but a little long and talks A LOT. She is also one of THE hardest graders I've ever had, and I've taken quite a bit of STEM classes already. She's very picky about certain things so you have to be very careful in her class.
Prof Erickson is a tough grader when it comes to lab reports. She cares a lot about details so follow her instructions!! It's not hard to get an A if you follow them. Her quizzes and tests are not easy, but if you prepare for them by reviewing the labs and her lectures, you will get a good grade. She is also very approachable so ask for help!
I was in her bio1A class and she was very helpful. Im glad I had her for my lab class and wish she was teaching other classes, lol.
She is a great teacher. The final is worth 1/3 of your lab grade. There are only 3 quizzes, but total are worth 1/3 of your grade. But they are fairly tough. So study for the quizzes, and ofc the final. But they are built off of the labs, so make sure you attend the labs and try hard.
Take this professor and get to know her. This is a warm, energetic and open professor who is very willing to help. She wants to see you succeed. She presents this material clearly and it is not a bore to listen to her.
Karen is an excellent lecturer, making the class fly by with her knowledge. However, she is a very tough grader, and tends to provide questions on the tests that were merely skimmed in class. Her lab practical is worth 35% of the lab grade, and is all over the place in regards to material. She takes points off for the most insignificant reasons.
She's a caring professor and wants students to succeed but her lectures go by very quickly and it feels very rushed. You definitely need to study a lot on your own to do well. Grades very tough.
Karen's lecture is very fast pace, so read ahead of time to fully understand her lecture. Also in her first Exam 1 make sure you pay attention to the little things she talks about in lecture. Her lab quiz is is hard as well, but to be prepared make sure study lab handout.
Karen is awesome! She's so kind and supportive and really cares about everyone learning the material. You won't be disappointed!
Karen is one of the best professors I have had at Foothill. Her class is super organized. She makes it fun to be in a Bio class. At first I thought it would be boring. But, Karen makes the class really really interesting. I am really hoping to continue the rest of the sequence with Karen as my professor.
Professor Karen is a great teacher and her classes are fun. But be aware that she is a tough grader; consider whether you are proficient enough in biology to take the class without taking a hit to your GPA. She does not give extra credit. Attendance is part of the grade.
I took Professor Erickson at Foothill College for Bio 1A. Great professor, who is clear and tries to make the material fun to learn. She really cares about her students. Since moving all online, she was very organized on Canvas and her tests were open book. I wouldn't consider her class to be an easy A class, but very achievable.
If there is ever a teacher you NEED to take, it better be Erickson. She is super understanding, and knows that there is more to your life than just her class. She even made some hw out of zero points, so that you got rewarded for the good work, and no penalty for the bad work. If you get a chance to take her, you better jump on that chance.
Professor Erikson is one of the best professors I have taken at Foothill, so caring and eager to make the subject understandable and interesting for her students. The majority of work comes from just coming to lecture and taking notes and participating, most everything on the test was from the lecture, that was my way of studying. Love her!!!
Erickson is such a genuinely sweet, understanding person and amazing lecturer! I'd take her again if I could! It's not required to read from the textbook but it definitely helps concrete the information. I mainly wrote down everything she said during lectures and studied off of that for exams. Workload is manageable if you do a little every day.
As much as many people enjoyed Erickson, LOOK at the negative comments! There's a lot of self studying you have to do and she talks FAST in lectures so I had to record her. Her tests and quizzes are brutal and she's a VERY tough grader. Not a lot of extra credit :( Honestly I had a better experience with my AP bio teacher than I had with her.
Mid biology professor. Lectures are all over the place and extremely fast. She would frequently make me uncomfortable in lecture by getting in the middle of where I was trying to take a photo or excessively using hand motions when trying to pay attention. If you're not strong in biology, find another professor to teach you.
Lectures EXTREMELY DISORGANIZED. If you take her, make sure to go over EVERY chapter in textbook she lists on canvas. Goes over things quick; whatever is on her lecture slides (even if she went over it for 2 seconds) WILL be on exam. Doesn't give much credit for lab :( Lets u have 1 sheet of paper for every exam/lab quiz though. Very bad lecturer!
Prof Erickson is such a sweet and caring person. She really loves teaching. The class is hard and a lot of your grade is tests and quizzes, but she is very fair and all of the points in the class are outlined in the syllabus. You will pass. Attendance is optional but I would highly recommend coming to class, she bases all the tests on the lecture.
Professor Erickson is a sweetheart! She is so caring! Her lectures are amazing and entertaining. I highly recommend going to lectures, it will help you out a lot.
Erickson's lectures can be fast-paced, but attending them is crucial. The course requires consistent effort - read the textbook, participate in class, and utilize resources like Unstuckstudy for study prep. While rigorous, the material is engaging, and Erickson is an understanding professor who cares about student success.
Her grading system is stressful and makes it challenging to get a good grade. her class overall is fair and exams/quizzes are okay if you study well. wouldn't really rec if there's a better professor
Professor Erickson has an amazing way to not only simplify the complicated parts of biology, but also explain them very well. Her lectures were very interesting and engaging. She also has opportunities for extra credit. Getting a good grade in her class is not difficult. You can pass her class by simply attending her lectures, and reviewing slides.
She is an amazing teacher. Really cares about her students. Her exams aren't too challenging they are (from a scale of 1-10) a 6. Her class is very passable you have to study outside of class. If biology isn't your best class then I would suggest to go to her office hours.
She is such a good teacher and she cares for such a passable class. This is amazing, I had such a fun time in this class and would take her again. She understands and allows you to get a card for quizzes and a whole sheet of paper for midterm and finals . You do need to study outside of class and it is so double.
I love Professor Karen. She is the best Biology professor at Foothill. She is goated. Such a chill class. Highly recommended!!!!!!
Genuinely one of my favorite classes of all time. She is very passionate and accomodating. Her exams are challenging but fair, never going outside the scope of her lectures. Just make sure you can spend a good amount of time every week pondering and soaking the material in. You'll be A-OK!
