She is the best teacher at UMBC, a little wacky but nice and easy.
Very nice lady
Talks a lot and never says anything, very defensive about exam answer keys.
A very easy and entertaining class
Don't take her. She will talk about having sex with Larry King and other crazy ramblings. Along with the fact that class is at 9 AM always! sucks Probably easy if you can make it in to class
She's really funny, very down to earth, very nice, her teaching style is a bit unorthodox, but read the book & you'll be fine, she's aslo available & open to explaining things to her students. I'd definately recommend her for the classes above adolescent.
everyone should have the Freiberg experience... she is a very cool lady and a good teacher. she really cares about her students. LOVES to talk about sex and is usually pretty funny. class is never boring and the tests are fair as heck!
This woman is insane. She talks about sex every chance she gets. She's an odd one. However, her tests are extremely easy. They are mostly on lecture material, but some of it is on textbook material.
Very nice professors, approachable and interesting. You need to attend class to do well.
I've had her for 3 classes while at UMBC. Easy to get an A-but MUST attend class. Class is always entertaining and worth while. Neat lady. Looks great for 60.
Class is easy if you attend lecture. Nice woman, very smiley. Tells funny stories in class. Needs to keep her political opinions to herself, though.
She's really sweet and kind of funny, but definitely likes you to be at quizzes on time. An easy and nice teacher for an easy class.

As long as you read the assignments and go to class, it's relatively easy.
Her tests are easy if you read the book. She does not test on the material from class very often.
She is such a nice teacher. Her class is based on quizzes that are every week and its multiple choice with no papers to write and you get a chance to do extra credit. She is very helpful and i would recommend this teacher to everyone.
pretty easy class if you read and go to class. No exams, no papers, only quizzes. She's a real sweet lady too.
she's great! so cute. just uh... make sure you have the right edition of the textbook...
Her classes are so easy, it makes it difficult to have any motivation to go in between tests, if that.

Her classes are fun to attend. She delivers great lectures. Her exams are fairly easy if you study the assigned chapters. Your grades are based on exams. She offers no extra credit.
notgood
Really cares about her students and knows what she is talkibg about.
This class was easy, but there's really nothing to study for. DO NOT BE FOOLED. Her test are of trivial answers so be sure to study things word-for-word in the text. It's an okay class, but I didn't like it too much.
She is one of the best professors i have ever seen. It is very easy to get an A in her class. You will be all right if you show up every day in her lecture. Over all she is great. I am looking forward to take more classes with her.
i hate her. she gave horrible notes. i dropped the class because i couldn't stand listening to her. dont take this class!
I actually get up in the morning to go to her class because lectures are fun and interesting. Read the chapters and take notes and you'll be fine. 13 multiple choice quizzes (you drop 3) and no tests or papers. Plenty of extra credit, too. I recommend.
The class is very easy, but I can't stand this woman. She provides biased and at times FALSE information, and is completely insensitive to delicate issues such as gender, sexuality, and reproductive health. I've left this class feeling angry many times. Better off learning it all on your own.
her class is an easy A...pay attention to videos, b/c she quizzes you on them, also read the chapter, and you'll do fine on quizzes
great class. i even got up early to go and loved it. she was willing to have discussions. only has quizzes, no papers, midterm or finals. Would love to have her as a teacher again. definately recommend
She is a very nice and interesting professor..i recomend taking her. Her exams are easy if you just simply read the main ideas of each chapter.
She is a teacher with a lot of energy. Her test are easy if you go over your notes in class and the main points of the chapters. She expects you to watch videos shown in class and take notes. She also expects you to take notes when there are guest speakers. She is a nice and fair grading teacher.
She is a very nice woman, however, she is disorganized in her lectures, and had a horrible guest speaker run the class once while she sat back and let him take over, good lecturers always have control over their classrooms and she lost control

She is funny. She may shock you though. One time I came into her class at 10am, and she answered a question for a student. "Can you have sex while pregnant?" I almost spit out my coffee because she showed us diagrams of sexual positions!
The best professor I ever had. I took her for 6 different classes
Not that great of a teacher; rambles quite a bit. She is convinced that you can beam answers in on an I-Pod....
This professor is the absolute best that UMBC has to offer. Great teacher, great mentor, and now that I have graduated, great friend.
shes nice. i have nothing against her, you need to go to class to learn, but shes a perfectly nice person/professor and the class is alot of note-taking/memorizing
No Comments
cute old lady but not a great teacher- just wants you to memorize even though she says otherwise. put up 20 slides that say the same thing but doesnt give you enough time to write down whats on any of them. she should just put up one slide long enough for people to take it in.
don't spend money on the book, nearly all her quiz material is from lectures. other than her psychoness for thinking iPods are helping everyone cheat she's pretty decent.
She's nice and the class is very easy -- just 12 quizzes and you can drop 3. I thought she was kind of boring and her lectures seemed disorganized. The info was interesting but I wasn't a big fan of her teaching style. It's an easy A if you go to class and psychology is interesting even though she is a little scatter- brained and boring.
shows lots of videos, quiz questions mostly from overheads and videos. not enough time to copy notes from overheads. she isn't clear about the readings, and thinks we should know everything from reading the syllabus. doesn't say what Chs are being covered on a test, and if we didn't cover it in class, we are still responsible for it.
Not a big fan of her teaching style. It's unclear on what's important and her lectures feel very unorganized. A lot of questions on the mid-term were from the articles. You don't need to really buy the textbook though.
DO NOT TAKE AT 8:30AM! Seriously, you will fall asleep. I ended up dropping the class and taking it with Anderson this semester because I couldn't help falling asleep. If you do take the class, GO TO IT. Half the test is class-only material. For most, it's an easy A. For me, too early. That was my only problem
Dr. Frieberg is an excellent professor. She tells you exactly what you need to know for exams (for the most part) and genuinely wants everyone to do well - as long as they come to class. GO TO CLASS. It's entertaining and easy, and most questions come from overheads or handouts. Take her if you are interested in the material, she's great.
I used to be a psych major and taking psych 100 with Dr.Friberg at 8:30 was painful. She was a nice teacher and very straight forward class, but she should be teacher higher levels than 100, she make's it uninteresting anf extremly boring
She is a very easy professor. I never went to class, but did just fine. Just read the book. There are questions from videos she shows and pop quizzes that count for extra credit. she's very nice
i hardly ever went to class and i did average on the test. if i would have studied more i could've done better. but i barely even looked at the book. shes pretty easy and very nice. if u go to class she usually has extra credit options. theres 6 exams and no final!
She's overall a nice person. She gives in class activites so attendance is somewhat mandatory. Exams are not very hard as long as you read the textbook. Lectures are useless.
I learned nothing. This class was the most pointless class of my life. Do you remember 9th grade health class, because thats all it is. Avoid if you can -- you'll just end up wasting your time.
such an easy class. she reminds me of an elementary school teacher. come to class only because of the extra credit that can make your B an A and the videos (lots of them) that she uses for exams, you can sleep after that. Read the book and youll be fine. Tests make you think a little harder..she loves what she does and you can tell..
Class was a JOKE! didnt attend any of the lectures. managed to get an A in the class. She seems to know what shes talking about but shes a boring teacher. Just read the book and make sure you do the online work (its a lot of your grade). bottom line, if you need an easy class to take, psychology 101 is the one to take.
BEST. PROFESSOR. EVER. :o)
Sweet lady who is enthusiastic about teaching. Tells lots of relevant anecdotes. Lectures were sort of disorganized, but usually entertaining. Most test material came from lectures & videos. Attendance is not mandatory, but definitely recommended -- 10% of the grade is "class participation," worksheets that you get credit for if you try.
She is highly opinionated in a way that is detrimental to her teachinng. The course is designed around her beliefs and in my opinion did not cover enough developmental issues surrounding adoescence. Plus she is extremely technologically impaired. If you take her slides be prepared to write 40 words a minute and squint until your eyes are watering.
Wonderful Teacher. No matter what class you have her for make sure you attend all classes the material will help on exams and quizzes.
She was a okay teacher...nothing special. Her lectures were pointless and tedious. she told us not to memorize the information from the book but dont listen to her!!! the exams were all about memorization...
i hate her.she can't teach. Her lectures are absolutely pointless and all she does is show videos. She is always at least 10 min. late to class or sick. She doesn't know how to use any technology cps, computers, flash drives. She wastes about 30-40 minutes in class trying to get the cps to work and when it doesn't work she shows a dumb video.
She's not the best. Lectures are pretty pointless. Lotttsss of videos- very boring. Doing the labs definitely help your grade if you aren't a great test taker. Tests aren't the easiest. if you study & know the material, I'm sure they're better. She is compassionate about teaching.
going to her lectures were pointless. all she does is put up a couple overheads then watch a movie. all the things you need to know for the exams are in the book. and maybe one question from a movie. the first day of class she told us all to go have psychotherapy. she seems nice, but kind of spacey.
I thought she was very nice. she tried to make us laugh alot. shes personally one of my favorite teachers because she doesnt teach from the book. u can pass with an A with or without going to class. but if u go to class, take notes, ask her for a study guide--all the answers to the test are in ur notes. i didnt read the book once & i got an A
Very boring class... she tries to liven it up every once and a while but still boring. You use the text book to do the labs (have ONE person do the lab, shows you the correct answers, everyone 100%). Random videos, doesn't know what she's doing. Ask for help & she'll direct you to a TA who never comes to class. More confused than the students!
prof. wasnt any great.. kinda boring with her videos. random articles that u have quiz on every other day. Pointless lectures.. dont understand wth she talkin abt. barely clear overheads. BTW, psyc 205 is mainly BIO. almost no psych involved.. just how baby is made, what happens to mother's body during pregnancy. take some other PSYCH class.
One of the easiest professors ever. It almost made the class not fun because of how easy it was. Most material is common sense. She's a very nice professor, though.
Professor Freiberg is a bit of a space cadet. She showed meaningless slides and movies in class and got mad when she was sent e-mails from students, saying that they were the TA's job to deal with. Also had a crazy temper and blew up at kids randomly...the class is easy if you read the book, there's really no need to go to class
She's a pretty nice teacher. She's a bit spacey though and she should probably try to keep someone with her who knows a thing or two about computers. A majority of the time, she just shows slides of examples and cartoons, but if you read the book, you should be all right. Her lectures don't really do much for education's sake.
Classes were ok but it was the damn labs that got to me. If you take this class, make sure that you take the labs seriously.
I liked her! Great professor. She is not easy or hard. If you study you do well. Give extra credit through quiz. A very sweet and nice Professor. I got a C in her class but I am satisfy with it because I actually learned something. PLUS i didn't have to pour my heart and soul into this class just to pass compare to some other classes.
If you sit up front and talk a lot you get an A.
Technology inept
She's the first professor I ever took a psychology class with and I have signed up for several more that she teaches. She loves what she does and makes sure to not leave anyone behind. The class does require a lot of work and attendance really helps. Pay attention in class and study the book and online labs.
She couldn't tell you where the power button is on a computer, but the clas isn't all that hard. Labs take forever, just gotta learn the trick about them. Lectures are pointless to listen to, but she does CPS for credit.
Professor Freiberg made this class awesome. She goes through notes quickly and you usually watch a movie based on the material. I suggest reading the text book, but you can still do well without it. She gave extra credit at the end of the semester. Overall a very sweet person.
She is one of the best psychology professors I have had at UMBC. She gives a lot of extra credit, shows a movie every day, and tests on what she talks about in class. I would read the book to secure an A in the class.
Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes late every day because it takes her about that time to turn the computer and projector on. She called tech-support every day. I had an 89 in the class and was given a B....a 90 is an A. If you do the online labs 20/20 (you get two tries and get to see your answers) but fail all the tests like I did, you can still pass.
nice lady. BUT in a lecture hall you can't hear her at all. lectures are extremely boring and mostly just poorly made education movies. she has a really negative attitude towards her students - constantly making sweeping generalizations about how she knows we aren't paying attention and how we need to stop drinking. ?!?! wouldn't recommend her.
Enjoyed her class. You should get an A if you do the readings and pay attention in class!
Great professor! Very clear expectations and very fair. If you read the book and show up to class then it is very easy to get an A. The tests are very straightforward. Just make sure that you are prepared for the pop quizzes. Did not like psych prior to this class, but she has changed that!
Easy class as long as you read the textbook. However, her lectures are dry, she often has problems with the technology and grades are not regularly posted.
Great Professor. Took Psyc 393 with her and got an A. Read the textbook and go to class= A. For Psyc 393 she requires a lot of group participation though so you kind of have to go to class. Lots of story telling in front of the class but you learn a lot. I recommend her.
Loved her! Sweet woman, very accomodating. Class was a little depressing, but that's the nature of the beast. She presented the content well, and I'm taking another class with her because I enjoyed her so much.
EASY EASY CLASS HAD TO DO ALL OF THE READINGS(2 BOOKS0 BUT OVERALL EXAMS ARE EASY SHE WILL EVEN HELP U DURING EXAM IF U ASK LOVE HER
She was a co-professor in my seminar class and she was an amazing professor. On the last day of classes we actually went to her house so that was experience that not alot of people can say that they went to their professor's home. I encourage all future freshmen to take that class. We had so many interesting conversations.
She kind of has rude remarks. she talks about her past allot, she's old but is a force not to be reckoned with. Class is not that bad. make sure you do the readings and show up for class videos and you'll be fine
She's such a wonderful person. She may seem intimidating at first, but that's because she is a strong woman who does not accept things like students cheating or not following directions (like not putting their things up front during exams), it's pretty basic stuff she expects so be mature, listen, take notes during videos, read, and you'll do fine.
most wonderful teacher in the world. took her classes 7 years ago, nearly all her classes. u need to attend class and you need to be ontime and you need to do assignments and you will be perfectly fine. exams are way easy
She is a sweet little old lady. Always so nicely dressed. Down to earth, knows and is interested in what she is teaching. Retiring this year, otherwise I would highly recommend this class and her!
She is a good teacher and easy to understand. Readings help for test she also gives hand outs. Attendance is never taken. Only tests are used in grading. She also fund a cheaper text book for us to use.
Excellent professor. I believe she's finally retiring though. I love to hear her talk and twists back and forth... sort of hypnotic. She knows her stuff. Very sharp for an old gal. I definitely respect her.
Freiberg is incredibly intelligent and knows a lot about a lot of topics. Isn't as boring as you'd expect an older prof to be. 4 or 5 tests equally weighted for your grade. You will have to read the book to get an A. Really glad that I'm taking her this semester and that she didn't fully retire yet. Lots of movies and gives out review sheets!
She's a nice lovely older lady. Tests are extremely easy if you actually go to class and study. Attendance isn't mandatory but a lot of the test material come from her lectures and pass outs. Also ALWAYS pick "all the above", "any of the above" or "none of the above" on exams.
She is a very nice lady that reminds you of your grandmother. Her exams are multiple choice, and the class is incredibly interesting. She has quizzes every now and then, but they aren't too tough (they're mostly just matching or multiple choice). She is an excellent professor, and she tells fun stories about her past career as a nurse.
I had her for several classes - but this was back in the early 1990s. For what it is worth, she is one of my all time best professors. taken and taught more classes than I care to remember - but Karen Freiberg will always remain as one of my favorite professors.
Really good teacher. She was understanding and soft spoken. Seemed to be very interested in the lessons. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she doesn't post notes online and gives out a lot of worksheets. Grades are based on tests- which are very easy and pretty much identical to notes, so go to class and you'll do great.
Sweet, interesting, and kind professor. Many people love her, though personally she is not my type. I took a FYS with her, and the classroom atmosphere was like elementary school. I felt a tad babied. Via what little experience I have had with her, I appreciate her as a human being, but not as a professor. Once again though, this was a FYS class.
She was awesome! You have to go to class though to get notes and she puts on a lot of videos. Video questions are on exams. Got an A in the class, super easy and straight forward.
Dr. Freiberg is a spirited speaker and easy grader. All you have to do is make it to class and skim through the book. Easy A! Do expect to be treated like a child at times.
