She can be hilarious! sometimes! the books are most importantly mandatory, it helps alot. you'll deff need the books later on in college. But she is a great FUN teacher. fair amount of work, i suggest her to everyone already. she only drops ONE letter grade after a late paper regardless of when you pass it in. love her!

I love this woman. She is teaching, because she loves this job. She asks for a lot of reading H/W, but for your own good. She improved my writing and my language too.

Karen Hawthorne is amazing....i love her. she gives alot of HW, but you actually learn something from her. she's funny and i love her epigraphs. i improved my english with her. dont take this class if you dont like too much HW, but if you want to learn take her class. i wish she was giving eng112.

She is an awesome professor! I enjoyed her class and although she gives a tremendous amount of homework, it is in YOUR best interest to complete it. If you want to become a writer this would be the perfect class but if you are just looking for a course just to pass try another professor. Copy Meditation is tedious but meaningful!

She's a fantastic English professor! She does give a bit of homework, but it's mostly reading. If you don't read what she gives you then you won't do very well. Otherwise she is quite humorous, very sunny, and explains grammatical rules clearly. She makes sure you understand the material. It's a great class. :)

Just do your work AND the reading (VERY important) and you'll pass. The quizzes are easy if you just do the reading. She gives you enough time to do the essays, so there is never any rush unless you wait till the last minute. Just keep up!

K. Hawthorne is a thoughtful, funny, and remarkable professor. One thing that she does that I appreciate a lot is the emails that she sends to remind us of the work that needs to get done. She gives a decent amount of work, all to the kindness of her heart. When it comes to the essays her grading is fair, however she doesn't give much feedback.

Professor Hawthorne is literally the best ENGLISH instructor you will ever have; she is clear, précis, and always willing to help out essentially, just don't be so much of a Turkey, and you'll pass. Best of luck. P.s. BHCC should give Karen Hawthorne some teacher tenure, she deserves it.

Good professor, taken over the summer so there was a lot of work (specifically related to grammar). Would take another class by this professor.

I took professor Karen Hawthorne's class in the summer, one can imagine how hard it would seem to take college writing class in the summer, but it turned out to be the best class that i ever took. She is nice, helpful, easygoing and the best.

Karen is a good professor. She assigns quizes nearly every class, based on assigned reading. The quizes are fair though; if you read, you will ace her quizes. She assigns 5 papers during the semester, all of which are clear to start and finish. In regards to grading the papers, she is fairly laxed. Lastly, she does take attendance seriously.

Hawthorne, is a amazing professor. She truly cares about her students. Her sense of humor is out of this world. I have learned so much in her class. She gives a lot of reading and work. My favorite class this year. Professor Hawthorne is a HILARIOUS professor. I was excited and inspired to write after going to her class. Her homework is very doable. Her homework significantly improved my writing. I had personal issues this year and she was the most understanding professor I had this year in regards to my issues. Take this class!

Karen is an amazing professor. I came into that class not totally blank but I did learn more than I expected. Get ready to read indeed. "Copy meditation makes you a better writer" , says Karen and she couldn't be more right. Even your texting technique will change. You will text as you speak, no contractions, no more slang! You WILL LEARN FOR REAL.

She is everything you would expect of a professor. She gives homework every class, and they are to be done if you want to do well in the class. She is very clear about what needs to be done in the assignments, and if you have questions, she will always answer them via email. She is also very funny and easygoing while in class. Great experience!

Professor Hawthorn's class was challenging enough that you need to pay attention to what you are doing but not difficult in the amount of work you have to do if you plan out your week!

She is one of the best professors in BHCC. She is caring and impartial. She does give lots of work to do but you will learn a lot from it. More importantly, the way that she teaches you in class will prepare your future in ENG 112 or other advanced English courses.

Professor Hawthorne is one of the good professors in BHCC. However, I have to say that she guides rather than teaches. You will learn many things through the work that you'll do outside class, and the textbooks that are required. She gives a lot of reading and small quizzes to check if you'd done the reading that's due.

Her course is to get you prepare for the writing. All you have to do in her class is keep writing and writing. You will have average amount of work each week. If you have fail the College Writing I before than you should defiantly take this class.

As long as you put in effort, you will learn and pass. The assigned homework sets you on a clear path to what is expected, and it will not leave you guessing how you will perform on the final. Prepare to turn in an essay every other week, but she gives you a method to prevent you from having "writers block".

Out of all my classes this semester she is my favorite. Some might say she is a tough grader but she is very clear on what her expectations are. She assigned a total of 5 essays but gives you enough time so that you can have a first, second, and final draft. Don't turn those in, you will not pass! Dedicated professor! Sends emails to help.

you will need to buy two text books for this class, i found them useless. Us as a class didn't really use them too much and i didn't really learn anything form the books. i learned a lot more from her lectures then the books.

Good teacher not too much homework, but there is heavy writing. Do not be late she will not allow you to make up tests do not be absent you will fail !

I took Hawthorne's summer College Writing course, which is different from Fall and Spring Semester. In turn, we did not do the extra reading so she saved us money on the extra textbook. We simply wrote five papers and did a couple other activities. There is a lot of writing, but it's mandatory per the college ciriculum.

Hawthorne lets people work together to provide feedback on our papers before the final draft that we hand in.

She gives us test to know if we read the book or any passage she gives us.

I definitely would recomend you to take Eng 111 with professor Hawthorne. She gives good feedback on your essays, also she come to class with a well prepare lesson. However, dont skip class otherwise you will be more able to fail.

Amazing teacher, very caring and professional. There is a low of homework and reading but it is all designed to help the student succeed in the class. Expect multiple drafts for essays and a good amount of small quizzes on required readings.

Material is clearly displayed. Frequent quizzes bases on reading enforced me to actually do the reading.

avoid this professor find another one because if you do not you will get homework and quizzes everyday for the whole semester and 12 chapters online to do at a specific amount of time and 6 major essays to do as well all at the same time with the final exit exam as well taken in class avoid.

She is a good and well-planned professor. I recommend you to choose this professor if you are a hardworking and sincere student. Do not skip her not even one class. She is very fair in grading, if you follow her instructions and read her daily agenda carefully, you will get grade A in all 5 major essays and can easily pass the exit exam. Good luck

Reading assignment is really important in this class because the professor will test you whenever you have a reading assignment.

Proffesor Hawthorne. Shes quite the character. Shes very stern with her rules, if you are not good with deadlines, youre gonna have a bad time. Heads up shes super liberal and will occasionally be giving small speeches on how terrible the government is right now. Overall, you cant afford to take a week off with her or youll drown in the work

She is good professor, I took a summer classes with her and I learned many things. Dont skip the class ans please ask questions because, she can confuse you sometimes.
