she is the worst teacher i've ever had. she doesn't teach instead she lets other students help you if you don't understand something in class. She is a complete waste of money and time. Also she never stops to explain anything. Don't take her!!!!
shes good one on one. other than that- teach yourself
She is really great at teaching Structures. Instead of just saying the way to do things she really makes you think about it first so you really understand it. She shows you what it will be like for your students when you become a teacher, and the best methods to use for them.
Heinz is nice and tries to get you to really think but I know she could teach this course in a much easier way. It's elementary math that your doing and somehow she makes it hard. Your call if you want to take this class...lots of group work. You'll probably average a high C or low B.
The group work is too much & it's tough getting everyone together. And there's only a mid-term & final as serious grades.
This class was pretty easy, until I took the midterm. Everyone failed. We all thought we knew the material but she asked us things that were unexpected. Everyone bombed the final too, but she does give you other tyoes of assignments to bring up yuor grades which helps alot
Easy Easy Class.... tests are a small part of the hgrade and you can bring whatever notes you want to them so they are easy if you make review sheets.... def an easy class
She was very nice and I liked the close environment she created in her class. The material was difficult but she was always able and willing to help.
this class is so easy. the workload is very do-able, but the only thing i hate is how she always makes up work in groups durin class cause it's basically me gettin an answer in like 10 secs and then me tellin the other students how to do it. i ain't the teacher!!
She's really really really super nice. Very sweet and genuine. Explains everything very well and the tests are easy if you do the work and go to class. She's a little quirky and gets excited about fractions and stuff but generally she's awesome.
She's very passionate about teaching. She expects a lot, but doing the work makes the tests easy. She's very nice and will go out of her way to help you.
She wasn't a bad teacher. A lot of group work but it's simple stuff, kind of common sense... Tests are not bad at all, do the example questions and you'll be good to go
She is very excited about math and expects all of her students to share in her same joy. Did not like the way that she taught class. She had students do most of the teaching while she just stood there. Too much group work! You couldnt focus on yourself because if your group didnt get it it held you back as well. Gotta be an easier way!!!
easiest class in the world! barely did any of the hw, and studied for maybe 15 mins for the exams. i did participate a lot in class tho. there were 3 exams and i got a 93 and two 100's (i was the only person to get a 100 on the final tho :) def take her, shes really nice!
Very easy class, great teacher. easy quizzes and tests.
very good helpful
lets you talk with a partner for in class activities. Is willing to talk with you about anything you need help with or have a question about. very knowledgable about her subject. gives a lot of quizes, lets you drop your lowest quiz, has a fairly large participation grade for those who dont' do so well on tests or quizes, Take her you'll learn alot
She is awesome! Take her!
great teacher! im not such a great math student, and was really nervous about the class, but it wound up being great! you learn a lot and she gives everyone confidence. she gives homework, but you dont have to do it if you don't want to. however, if you want an A, and you're not a math major, i suggest doing it. take this class!!
she was a great math teacher. i always had trouble with math, and this was the first time i ever got an A in math. she was very helpful, and relied on our feedback. she likes when you participate -- make sure you do! the hw is not mandatory, but it does help you. the quizzes are easy .. the questions come right out of the notes. TAKE HER!
Great teacher. Makes learning fun and interesting...take her
She is ok has a dry sense of humor. You need the book. not much else to say
Dr. Heinz is the best math teacher. I found her class very interesting and she is very helpful in explaining concepts. She is the first math teacher I had that explains the why behind every concept. She demonstrates with lots of examples and visuals and manipulatives. I definitely feel more confident about teaching math when I become a teacher. I am so happy I took her class.
She's a great teacher. Thoroughly explains everything. However, be prepared to work. Weekly online quizzes. Trick questions on tests. Class participation plays a big part of your grade.
HER PASSION FOR MATH IS REALLY ANNOYING. CLASS IS THE WORST THING. NOT EVERYONE LOVES MATH AS MUCH AS HER.. GROUP WORK ANNOYING. SHE EXPECTS STUDENTS TO PURCHASE TOO MUCH AND DO TOO MANY THINGS FOR THIS ONE THERE CREDIT CLASS.
For someone who has math phobia I wound up loving this class!! Professor Heinz is AWESOME!! She helps to explain things in every possible way and does not move on until she is sure that everyone gets it. She is always available for extra help and while you do have a lot to do, it's always fun and it really helps. Take her if you hate math
Professor Heinz is an awesome teacher! i was so scared of taking geomentry and not only does she make it fun to come to class but also fun learn about geomentry. She does have a lot of quizzes and homework but in the end it helps your grade to have alot of work. And she will help u with something u r not clear about. She is just a GREAT teacher!
anyone who talks bad about this teacher is out of their mind. She is by far one of the best teachers i have had here at rowan in the past 3 years. She is fabulous! I would take her a million times if i could.
she's really nice, and will help you if you need it. she loves feedback, and will always compromise with you. hw every night, but she never checks it. online quizzes that are simple if you go to class and take notes. she explains things well, and won't move on unless every one understands.
I love this woman. She is extremely nice, genuine, caring, and helpful. Take her class.
One of the best teachers by far at Rowan. I hate math and was never very good at it, but she makes the class easy especially compared to all of the other classes my friends have with different professors for the same course. I highly recommend Dr. Heniz to anyone
GREAT PROFESSOR! Makes sure you understand everything before you move on and really cares about her students. A must take prof. If you do your work and study you will get a great grade and if need any help just ask and she will be more than happy to give it to you.
Loved this class. It was so much fun. Many times, she would sit in the back and tell us to be "mathematicians". We would work as a class to get an answer to something. It was an awesome experience. I would highly suggest taking her.
I fell asleep in her class so many times. It's so boring. Online assessments are really important though.don't forget to do them.
She is a good teacher. She gives quizzes, two midterms, and a final. She gives online homework assessments which help you review. Overall, I think the class was great for future teachers. She is very passionate about what she is teaching.
Shes a great teacher and explains things really well but she makes her tests tough. If you want a better understanding of math then by all means take her, but if you want to understand it and pass easily, dont take this class.
She was a very helpful professor. Her class was not easy especially the exams. Study hard and you should pass her class. Make sure you do not forget to do those online assessments. They do add up for a final grade.
This professor was not helpful what so ever, she refused to help students during office hours shes uptight and unapproachable if you can avoid taking any class with her i suggest you take any other professor at rowan but this one.
Absolutely terrible, very disrespectful to students and not helpful at all. very unapproachable. not a nice person at all and it translates into her teaching and it will reflect on ur grade.
It took a while, but by the end of the class i really liked her. She actually wants you to learn what she's teaching you so she does challenge you in class, she always "why do you do it that way?" "because my teacher said so in third grade" Overall, i think i learned a lot from her class.
I didn't like her teaching style at all. She makes you analyze the way students think when dealing with this math. She doesn't really teach. She lets other students in the class explain for her. Take someone else.
One of the worst professors at Rowan. I am a students that asks for help and needs help especially with math. When I went to office hours, she "helped" with one problem and I still didn't understand. Then she would tell me she had to leave. I dropped this course mid semester because I had a D, meanwhile I asked for help EVERY SINGLE class.
Amazing professor, shows a true love for math. MAKES YOU ANALYZE HOW STUDENTS DO THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT BEING A TEACHER IS ABOUT. Do the homework and attend every class and it will be an easy A
I absolutely love this professor. She makes sure that you know the material and if you have any problem she never makes you feel ashamed. The material was pretty easy, but even if a student has difficulty with it, she makes sure they understand. Very fair at grading.
This professor was not helpful whatsoever. In fact, she pretty much urged the class to drop if you weren't doing well, rather than actually help her students. She continued to give all of the drop - dates throughout the whole semester so she wouldn't have to deal with struggling students. Wouldn't even meet with struggling students.
This was definitely not one of my favorite professors. She explains problems in the worst ways possible, making them harder to understand when they're usually pretty simple. Encourages students to drop her class and make sure to double check your test and quiz corrections, she tends to make a lot of mistakes. Take anyone else but her.
Wonderful professor. I struggle with math, but she makes math fun & easier to understand. Will ONLY help you out if you ASK. PARTICIPATE IN CLASS. Sit next to someone who can help you- lots of partner discussions. If you're in this class you're obviously and Ed major, meaning she explains things so you are able to teach the material to students.
very clear in explaining material. assigns homework but never ever once checks it. absolutely easy A as long as you participate. If you need help you need to come out and ask her, she won't come to you. exams are directly from notes. makes sure you know why things are the way that they are, instead of making you memorize. not a bad class at all.
She's really clear and explains everything in a way that helps you get it. She's a really good teacher and nice enough. She even lets you skip the final if you have an A in her class. Would take her again.
You can tell she has been teaching for a very long time but hasn't lost her ambition Her class is set up to work on a worksheet in class with a partner and then you'll go over it as a class by taking turns at the board You'll have a short homework each night (8ish questions) She truly wants each student to fully understand and succeed. Take her!!!
She's a really god teacher. She cares about each of her student's grades and wants all of us to pass her class. I'm really bad at math, but she tries to makes you understand as best as you can. I would recommend taking her to Structures I and II!
She is the worst professor ever. She is so rude and gives SO much homework. The homework has nothing to do with what you do in class. She takes 30 minutes to explain one problem and never lets you out early. Don't take her!!
She is a pretty good teacher with a very structured class. She did not cancel any classes, nor did she ever let us out early, besides test days. She pretty much will stick to the syllabus, and is a pretty tough grader on the homeworks. There is a homework due pretty much every week to every other, and it may seem easy, but it is graded harshly.
I love Mrs. Heinz. I took her for both structures courses. Her syllabus is clear, she grades tests SO quickly (hours after taking), will answer any questions, and takes the time to try and get everyone involved in class. As long as you stay focused, she will do everything she can to help you pass. I respect her a lot and I enjoyed her class.
Professor Heinz seemed like a good professor at first, but as the semester went on you can tell she used to teach middle school. Everyone in my class talked a lot and she would reprimand us over and over, instead of letting us discuss and work through the problems. She even moved students seats and was rude to them during class infront of everyone
I took Dr. Heinz twice and definitely learned a lot. She expects a lot from you, but with good intentions. She wants you to be the best teacher that you can be for the next generation. There's a lot of work involved in this class, but I can say that I have learned a great deal about math and how to teach it. Oh, a bonus: she grades super quick!!
Dr. Heinz is one of the most caring math professors I've ever taken. At first she is a little strict with her classroom rules, such as phone use, but if you stay off your phone, you'll be fine. She is extremely intelligent and a great math teacher. I never thought I liked math but she makes it fun and I've learned a lot. She's also so wholesome!
I was nervous to take Prof Heinz after reading reviews, but I loved her! She is a really great math teacher and cares a lot about your success. She expects you to put in the work, but will help you. Homework on blackboard once a week, and 3 tests. I appreciated that she did not require a textbook. Study for tests and you'll be fine.
Structures of Math 1. In the beginning of the course she seemed like a nice person but as the semester went on she was a very difficult teacher. I asked her for help while in the classroom and she told me no that is why we have partners. I did not like her as a professor ended class with a c-. Would recommend to not take her and take someone else.
Professor Heinz is pretty nice and somewhat understanding, she is strict with attendance unless you have a doctors note. Only gives a midterm and final, and reviews thoroughly for both. She has the students teach the methods for the class and stands there, watches, and only intervenes if a student is wrong. She assigns online homework every week
Professor Heinz is very clear about what she expects from her students. Weekly homework and 3 exams. She is a little bit strict, but only because she wants the best for her students. If you are struggling, she will help you understand the material. She also responds to emails super fast and is easily accessible. If you do the work, you will do fine
You will not pass without going to class! Attendance wasn't mandatory, but if you missed one class, you were behind. That being said, she was the best professor I ever had and held interesting lectures. She made her class easy to understand and she truly cared if her students understood the material. I was never good at math, but she made it easy.
Highly recommend! Very clear of expectations of tests, homework, and participation. The in-class examples are very helpful and will appear on homework and tests so attendance is important. Her rules can be strict but they are reasonable. I took her for Structures I & II and learned a lot.
I enjoyed her class. She gives you the opportunity for an optional final, but you have to follow her rules. For example, stay off your phone, don't come in late, don't leave early, and do not go to the bathroom. She treats you like an elementary school teacher because teachers cannot just get up and leave in the middle of a lesson.
I took Dr. Heinz for both Structures 1 and 2 and I honestly really liked her. She expects a lot from you but I believe I learned a lot more from her than I would've learned from another professor. Homeworks and exams are clearly dated on the syllabus so you know what to expect. Also she offers an optional final if you meet certain criteria!
Class was really weird to be honest. If you ask a question Professor Heinz will stare at you and wait for someone in the class to answer it. She doesnt teach as she guides you through problems. If you know math take her if not be ready to learn yourself. Optional Final is a great reason to take her. Overall just average
This was probably my favorite class this semester! Heinz is an excellent teacher, even online. She gave the same amount of homework each week, so it was nice to have a schedule. She is always there to help you, and her class is really great. Definitely recommend taking her!
Dr. Heinz is by far one of the nicest professors I've ever had. One assignment a week based on what we talked about in class. Didn't have many tests, and the final was not cumulative for my class. Responds quickly to emails, and very willing to give extra help if necessary. Highly recommend, she's simply the best.
Loved Dr. Heinz a lot! Taught content in a way that prioritized comprehension, not memorization. One homework assignment a week, around 20 questions, and tests every so often, so pretty light on the work. Loves when you participate and ask questions. Gave us optional assignments that when taken would drop lowest grade, and final wasn't cumulative!
LOVED this class. My schedule was messed up over the summer and she was quick to help with waivers. Such a nice professor and wants everyone to succeed! I HIGHLY recommend taking this class with Dr. Heinz. Great lectures, just do the work (it wasn't an insane amount) and you'll pass with flying colors.
She has a lot of homework assignments and quizzes for her online course, but in reality she does care a lot about her students and is willing to help. If I didn't fall behind I would've gotten a better grade in her class, but she encouraged me to step up my game. Would take her again.
This was my first time taking Professor Heinz and she was willing to help me this entire semester. If you do your work and do your best in the class, You will be fine. She's very encouraging and wants to see you do good. Be prepared to take two quizzes at the same time. Her lectures are the book you study from and the homework you learn from.
This class was not mandatory the semester I took it because of COVID. However, she did say in the future it would be and she would not be posting videos. This is a shame because I did not learn from her in-person teaching but rather, I watched all of her videos to re-teach myself the material. Graded on 2 homework assignments per week and tests.
If u are taking math structures, definitely take online! It is a lot of work but it is much easier to understand her lessons when you can pause/rewind her videos. I took her for math structures I in person and wish I would've taken it online after taking math structures II online. Just one of those classes u have to do the work and power through.
Love her, I have taken her for both of the structures maths. She is extremely flexible and easy to reach out to. She's very understanding. Her lectures are easy to understand. As long as you do your work, and do not procrastinate you will do fine! Shes really nice and not one of the professors with an ugly ego.
I took this course online. Even though I struggle with class I felt like this class was easy to navigate and Prof. Heinz was very understanding when life happens. I have been aloud to hand/ do many quizes late.
One of the worst professor's I have ever had. Doesn't explain what she's doing on the board but then tells us if were confused to just go to a tutor but shouldn't you be explaning his to us? She doesn't really care if you were sick and behind because she makes you find the work and catch yourself up. Overall DO NOT recommend.
Overall the class is fine. She lays out the material clearly. If you have a question, she kind of just looks at you, and then asks another student to answer your question, which doesn't really help.
I loved having Dr. Heinz I am taking Structures II with her next semester. She really helps you understand math and why each equation works rather than just making us memorize formulas. I loved her class and it was very informational and helped me really comprehend. I went from getting Ds and Cs in math to ending with an A this semester.
Dr. Heinz is an amazing professor. She makes sure that everyone understands concepts and encourages group work and class discussions. Wonderful professor, I'll miss her.
This professer was very nice from the begigning, the work is confusing but that isnt her fault, she was so understanding with my medical issues and didnt make attendence mandatory, for anyone. Shes a sweet older woman who cares about her students passing.
There are four assignments total every week, along with two quizzes. Lectures range from 30-50 minutes in length. This is one of the easiest math courses I've ever taken. Dr Heinz gives lovely feedback; I remember she drew a smiley face once on a word problem I was confused about. She communicates well, and makes sure you understand the material.
Pros: Attendance isn't mandatory Responds quickly to emails Cons: Ignores student input Inconsistent with grading homework assignments Inconsistent with participation grades Deviated from the syllabus frequently Unhelpful feedback Made final exam collaborative and did not collect final exam papers to see who actually worked on problems.
genuinely such a good professor. pretty sure structures of math is required for education majors and if you can i seriously recommend taking it with dr. heinz!
This class was great overall. The only issue is she is not super clear when grading. She will mark the question wrong but not say why you got it wrong. There are quite a few assignments during the week, but they are not super hard content wise.
