I went to class everyday and she made me laugh on the daily. She doesn't give your essays back or like anything but if you ask her, she will talk to you about it. Also, there was a good two quizes, and only read two chapters in the book. Overall it was a good class to take.
Professor Herschbach makes you work extremely hard for your grade but if you show up to class and write all the essays, you will pass. Something that annoyed me is that you will write a TON but she never passes the papers back. She's nice if you get on her good side and follow her rules. But she will never let you have your cell phone out in class.
She was my favorite teacher. I had her last semester and decided to take her class again. As long as you go to class and are respectful you will pass the class no matter what. She can have an attitude but you should never take it personal, and as long as you ask for help she will give it. USE THE OFFICE HOURS!
Occasionally her attitude isn't best suited for the classroom. She was funny and was actually pleasant to talk to one-on-one. Just be prepared she is NOT a fan of technology; which means she does not retroactively post grades to web campus. It also takes her a VERY long time to grade papers, but she will let you rewrite it for a better grade.
Herschbach was probably my favorite teacher this semester. There are 4 major essays, along with a few other writing assignments, but not many tests. She gives quiet a few little assignments here and there that are perfect to boost your grade. Such a funny woman, made waking up early worth it. Would totally recommend taking her class.
Dr. Herschbach is very helpful. If you need help on a paper, she is available to give some suggestions. There are four major papers for the semester and a few tests. Go talk to her if you are struggling, she will be more the willing to explain exactly what she wants.
Great teacher. Learned a lot and the class was interesting and relevant. Normal amount of work. She was very helpful and always took time to answer questions. Hilarious! Class was not dull. Style varies. She likes to mix up her class with discussions, group activities, videos and presentations. I would take another class from her.
Herschbach was great. The class was excellent; the content was meaningful and useful; the delivery was fun, and the feedback was always spot on. There were four major papers and there was a lot of time for revision. Also, seeing this professor outside of class was never a problem. She always made time and never rushed the meetings.
I really liked Herschbach's teaching style -- she mixed up each class with various activities; she stuck to teaching what was relevant, and she was clear about expectations. On more than one occasion I needed outside help and she always made time to see me. I liked her openness to pick our own topic for the research paper. Great class!
Best English class I've ever taken! Totally relevant information and no wasted time on stupid stuff. Lectures were very entertaining and the work load was quite manageable. Felt respected in the class and this professor was very fair in grading. Also, she made sure that everyone understood assignments and concepts.
I usually hate all things English, but I loved this class! Herschbach was great. Entertaining but focused on what was important. She gave excellent feedback and papers were always handed back within a few days of being handed in. She also gave input throughout the writing process. The readings were relevant so I actually read. An excellent class.
Loved this class and I hate English. The class was interesting, relevant, and I actually became a much better writer. Each class period was divided into two or three unique activities which made boredom a non-event. Papers were returned within a couple of days of turning in and the feedback was excellent. Herschbach was always willing to help.
I've never been very good at English and I knew I had to do well in this class. Because of Herschbach I had no need to worry. She was awesome! She took the time to explain things, let me revise papers when necessary and had realistic deadlines. Also, the class was actually fun and interesting. Now, I actually like writing papers.
I really enjoyed this class. The lectures were interesting and entertaining. Also, the class time was divided into various activities so I didn't get bored. Feedback was excellent and papers were always handed back promptly. The work load was quite doable and Herschbach was flexible with the schedule. I learned a lot and was totally respected.
This professor likes teaching. This is huge because it resonates in everything she does. Herschbach doesn't waste a student's time; she makes each class period count and ensures that assignments are relevant and not ridiculously long. She respects her students and is a very fair grader. She's also flexible and really knows how to motivate. Great.
Much to my surprise I really liked this class and I learned a lot. I enjoyed coming to class and always found the lectures and class work very helpful. This professor goes out of her way to help students, both in and out of class. The readings were interesting and informative and she let students choose research topics that they found relevant.
Great class; great professor. This class was spot-on for providing the necessary writing skills for college and career. I appreciated the energy of the class; boredom was never a problem. Also, Herschbach was always available to answer questions and she was flexible when warranted. I always felt valued. The readings and discussions were relevant.
Great class; awesome professor. This class actually made me like English and see its value. Everything I learned I can use in other classes and in my future career. I loved going to class and I always knew the assignments were worth while. Also, Herschbach was flexible when necessary and appreciated creativity and diligence. Best on campus.
Finally, a class that is interesting and relevant. This professor knows what is needed to succeed in the real world and understands the expectations of the academic world. Class was interesting and Herschbach went out of her way to explain concepts and provide examples. Herschbach is great at giving feedback and making time for everyone.
I thought I knew everything I needed to know about English and composition. I was definately wrong. I learned so much in this class and I actually loved the experience. This professor is interesting, entertaining, and doesn't waste a student's time with irrelevant information or assignments. She actually takes a student's major into consideration.
This class was not what I expected. I usually find English classes boring and redundant. Not this one! My writing and thinking skills improved so much. I'm also a much better reader. This class was a life saver for me. I should also mention that the class was never dull, in fact it was fun. Herschbach was very helpful and totally approachable.
My writing, analytical thinking, and reading skills all improved because of what I learned in this class. I really enjoyed the assignments and Herschbach goes out of her way to make things relevant. She is very flexible and totally approachable. She also makes time to meet this students individually and gives great feedback.
This class was actually awesome. The workload was very manageable and this professor was quite accommodating. Lectures were very entertaining and insightful. Classes were usually a mixture of activities so boredom was never a problem. Also, Herschbach was extremely helpful and took the time to clearly explain everything.
This class provided excellent preparation for my other classes. My writing and analytical skills improved a lot. Also, Herschbach provided very helpful feedback and basically took the fear out of writing. The class was very entertaining; I actually wanted to come to be thereSNELL. Work load is quite manageable and Herschbach is very accessible.
Professor Herschbach is a fantastic professor. She is very witty and sharp, so pay attention. She wants to help you get an A, but you have to work for it. Read the books (which you can find online) and actually spend time on your essays. The class is also psychology based, so be prepared to learn about the brain. Try hard, and you will get an A.
She is absolutely amazing! Took awhile to understand her style and get in the groove of everything, but once I did, it was great. Her lectures are amusing and concise. She genuinely cares about each of her students and them being successful -- likely due to small class sizes (roughly 20 in my case). Work and test can be sporadic so pay attention.
Great class. Awesome professor. The pace of the class was perfect and the professor was very knowledgeable. Also very funny. Class was actually fun and time was never wasted on non relevant activities. Also, Herschbach is very accessible. I would definitely take another class from her.
Professor Herschbach was the discussion leader for this class. She was amazing; best CH class on campus. Herschbach made the information relevant to the contemporary world and truly cared about what everyone thought. Also, she is very entertaining -- even at 8:00am. I really appreciated her flexibility regarding assignments. Great class!
Professor Herschbach was the discussion leader for this class. She was great. She is very knowledgeable and makes the information both relevant and understandable. Herschbach is very accommodating and accessible. I really enjoyed the discussions because she made everyone feel respected. She is also funny --which actually made the class entertaining
Excellent class for those who love or hate English. If you love English you will be challenged and learn new and applicable things. If you hate English you will wonder why no one, before Herschbach, ever made English interesting, entertaining and meaningful. Workload is fine; couple quizzes over readings; loves a good discussion; cool assignments.
Very interesting class. Herschbach doesn't waste your time. A few quizzes but you can use your notes. Paper assignments have excellent topics and Herschbach is flexible. Super about answering questions. Gives great examples. Organized. Hilarious. Relevant information. Uses videos for examples. Flexible and willing to work through scheduling issues
Heeschbach is a very good professor to take English with. Her lectures are well organized and very relevant in learning the material. Many of the in-class lecture questions become quiz questions, and she makes you aware of that. Pay attention. She's interesting. Asking her a question will get you a straightforward answer you were looking for.
Herschbach is by far the best English instructor I've ever had. Her lectures are engaging and interactive, and she has a unique way of making even the most tedious lessons (grammar) fun. She totally values the success and academic development of every student. Always willing to help and made me appreciate good writing.
By far the best professor I've had here. One of the few who truly cares about the well being of her students and puts effort in to ensure your success. Class was engaging, great feedback with essays. Made me a better writer and have an appreciation for the subject.
Great class! Actually learned a lot and had a good time doing so. Very reasonable schedule and the professor will be flexible if life happens. If English is not your thing, you may change your mind after a class with Herschbach. Highly recommended.D
I loved this class! Interesting and the assignments are meaningful and entertaining. Easy grader -- just do the assignments. Very good at explaining concepts and giving examples. Uses videos and your choice if you want to work with a group, or not.
This was an excellent class. The professor was entertaining and informative. Assignments were interesting and Herschbach made sure everything was relevant. Professor H. was flexible and accessible. Absolutely worth taking her class.
Herschbach was great. If you want to take a fun and interesting class where you actually learn relevant information, take this class. I actually learned how to write and analyze information. Group work was meaningful. Totally recommend Prof. H.
The class is kind of easy. Usually you'll be in class and she'll be talking and then class is done. She also likes to get us out of class early, which is nice. However, if you're looking to actually be challenged, don't bother. I once talked to her about a paper I rushed and she still gave me an A on it. Overall, easy A, but not happy about it.
Very good class. I learned a lot and everything was relevant. The class time is usually divided into various activities so getting bored is not an issue. The prof also goes out of her way to answer questions and give individual help on essays. Highly recommended.
This is the first English class that I actually liked. The topics and readings were interesting and the papers incorporated skills that I will use for the rest of my life. Also, the class is not boring and Herschbach does not waste your time. She gives individual help and will meet outside of class. If you want to learn, take this class.
This is probably one of the best 102 classes. The theme is interesting and the skills being taught are going to be really useful in my college and professional life. The class is not boring -- the time is well spent. Very fair grader and is always available after class if you need help. Also, Herschbach actually cares about students. Great class.
Professor Herschbach is an amazing instructor. She is funny, interesting, and knows her stuff. She goes out of her way to actually know her students and to ensure that they really understand what is being taught. She makes herself available and will always discuss your essay before you hand it in. Grading criteria is very straight forward.
This was an excellent class. Pace was reasonable and the assignments were interesting and not overly time intensive. Lots of personal interaction. Professor H answered all of my questions and went out of her way to be available when I needed help. Fair grader. Interesting theme. Learned a lot.
Herschbach was a great English professor and understood that students may be busy with other classes, so she was willing to work within our schedules. Gives great feedback and is clear on what she wants to see on our papers. There were 4 projects for the semester and they were interesting and not too difficult.
Professor Herschbach was my favorite professor this semester. The class is easy as long as you do what you have to do. She's really funny and tells great stories. She also has a cute style, I love her blue mascara.
She's such a fun person who makes English more enjoyable. One group project/presentation, a few mini papers which helped us write a 10 page paper as our final. Each class was meaningful in a sense that helped us through the writing process. Make sure you read the assigned readings bc she'll throw in quizzes which you can use your notes!
Professor Herschbach is one of my favorite professors on campus and has such a great personality. I have never been a fan of English, but she made the class enjoyable. She grades very fair, but you need to come to class in order to get a good grade. Overall, she is an amazing professor and I even chose her for English 102!
She's funny and laid back, but the workload is pretty heavy. There's a ton of reading and the quizzes on the reading are super hard. She also doesn't follow the class schedule very closely so don't rely on that.
Cool Professor. Lots of papers & projects, which was expected, but she kind of sucks at giving clear instructions. That's my only complaint. She's pretty chill so maybe that's why, but I would have to ask for help all the time. Easy to get in touch with, though. She's funny, & would usually let class out early every day, so that was awesome. 7/10
She is really chill and she cares about her students. Make sure to go to class or you will miss quizzes or graded in-class activities. Get ready to read a lot too because we take many reading quizzes. The workload is pretty heavy for her class, so you have to kind of work for your grade, but it's not too bad. She is a solid choice.
Interesting class but you really did have to work for your grade. Our theme was Psychology and Disney so the class wasn't boring. Get ready to work though!
I thought this was a great class. I learned a lot and any deviation from the schedule was explained and made far in advance. I did not think there was too much work and everything assigned was relevant. You do need to complete the assigned readings but it's interesting material. I would definitely take another Herschbach class.
Very good class. I really liked this class. It was interesting, well paced and the work load was reasonable. The assignments made me think and I definitely was never bored. The directions were easy to follow and she was always available to answer questions. Also, each class period was broken up into three or four activities which was interesting.
Totally cool class. Interesting and not too much work. Herschbach is chill and is always happy to answer questions and meet outside of class. Also, she is willing to modify the schedule to accommodate students.
To my surprise, this was a great class. I generally do not like English, but this was my favorite class of the semester. I learned a lot and had fun. The pace was excellent and the assignments were interesting and relevant. I also appreciated that I could pick my own topics to write about. Group work was optional.
Always offered help for what ever assignment you have and gave clear instructions on each assignment. Reading was heavy in the beginning of the semester but it died down toward the end. Lots of essays but most are fun and interesting topics. Nice and super chill professor but do not press her buttons and turn in everything on time!
I chose this professor based off of ratemyprofessor, but I was picked on and called out multiple times. The grading criteria was rough and I feel there is a little bit of favoritism. Overall the professor is a great instructor, but I would not take again.
Good class. I actually liked coming to class because it was interesting and relevant. Professor is very accessible and chill. There is more than enough time to complete assignments and the readings are never more than 5 pages in length. There are daily activities where you earn points for completion. This is a great way to improve your grade.
Good class.
Great and funny lectures, gives a lot of assignments with weird due times. Is a pretty harsh grader for the number of assignments she gives.
I don't like writing, but Herschbach made it fun. Go to every class and give thought into your papers and you will pass. She is funny and truly cares about you. Take her!!
Karen is an absolute delight. She really cares about her students and always encourages creativity in assignments. I would 11/10 take her class again.
Great instructor and an engaging class. Totally recommend.
This was a great class. I usually hate English and remote learning, but this class rocked. Relevant and interesting assignments and NO busy work.
This was a really interesting class that did not waste my time. I got excellent feedback and really like the assignments.
Best English class I ever took. No wasted time and super interesting discussions and assignments. Highly recommend.
I LOVED Professor Herschbach's english 102 class. Homework was generally easy and there were few projects. She really cared for her students and had compassion for them. For sure one of my favorite professors at UNR. Highly recommend taking her english classes.
Amazing professor and class is always engaging and she is extremely kind and caring.
Loved her, she was always makes class fun and enjoyable. She is also super easy to have casual conversations with and makes class fun to go too. Never had a dull moment in the class and always had fun.
Prof Herschbach was so funny and so sweet! She gave out dum-dums everyday and activities were always so fun and creative. Fun 1 credit English class and super easy!
Prof Herschbach is exceptional. Every class is engaging and relevant. The class is structured to be interactive with classmates. Also, props for providing specific examples of how what we learned, practiced, or discussed was relevant in our other classes, professional and personal lives. Definitely one of my favorite classes!
Awesome professor and easy going class. Little to no homework and very engaging.
Its hard for me to find class interesting and fun but with Herschbach there is no dull moment. She is one of the funniest people I have ever met and this is not your typical English class. No homework, fun in-class writing, tons of participation, and the whole class is always laughing. If I could have her for every class I would in a second.
Didn't learn much of anything. Her grading is entirely based on how much she likes you and she will make it known if she doesn't.
I took her class as my required additional English class for English 100. I found the class was chilling and easy to pass as long I participated and finished weekly group work. However, attendance is also mandatory to pass her class! The professor is very compassionate and keeps her class engaging especially by telling good jokes on breaktime!
Awesome class and a great professor. I learned so much and enjoyed everything about the class.
This class was amazing! I actually looked forward to coming to class and my time was never wasted.
Professor Herschbach was always very kind and takes a progressive outlook on the topics covered in class. Everything is group projects, with two main presentations, one of them being a really fun final! No homework! Attendance is mandatory as your grade is based on you showing up and signing in. 50mins of your time a week total.
Attendance was mandatory, but overall, it was an easy class.
incredibly easy class, really no other work than a small writing assignment done and turned in during class. two group projects during the semester, but they're super easy and chill. shes so kind and funny, wish i could take her again!!
Professor Herschbach is a great professor, yet this class was interesting. She picks and chooses what to grade and how heavily she grades assignments as well. Attendance is a majority of your grade, and if you miss an assignment in class, there are no chances for you to make it up, no matter the circumstances.
Easiest class ever. Literally just show up to get credit. Almost no homework. 2 projects, one is the final. It's group work so pick good partners. Still super easy tho.
TAKE A CLASS WITH KAREN!!!!! Hands down, the easiest class I have taken. Everything is done in class, usually with the people you sit by. No papers, no final. She is caring and will make you laugh. Her style is impeccable, she ate with her fashion choices the entire semester. We always ended 15 mins early. Karen will NOT disappoint.
I love this professor so much, her class was very easy and enjoyable to attend.
Attendance is very important. She doesn't want us to go home with homework, so mostly all of the assignments were done in class. You could also pick who you worked with. All of the assignments were super chill and not complex. Easy class to get an A in if you just attend.
