When she is lecturing Dr. Hopkins seems like a nice teacher, but if you have any questions about the class or about the material she acts like it is the end of the world to tell you. She acted very frustrated and seemed like she had better things to do. Also very passive aggressive. Overall if you try the class isnt too hard but you should study

Very Rude, seems very approachable and kind while teaching but that is really misleading. Passive aggressive and will only tell you to go read the syllabus if you have any questions about the class. So sad, so many great teachers at Auburn but she is far from one! Test are 50/50 just read and you will get Cs.

She seems to know marketing well, but if you have any questions she acts like you're wasting her time and tells you to read the syllabus. Make sure you bring an electronic device to class because all you're attendance is on TopHat. Honestly one of the most condescending business teachers I've had.

ok she's nice; however, she treats her lectures as if she is hosting a game show and it is quite uncomfortable. The use of TopHat is extremely unorganized making it near impossible to study and take notes in class. She is not personable and incredibly hard to get in touch with. e v e r y question has o n e answer: "Read your syllabus."

Karen seems like she'll be a great instructor, and then the first 5 minutes of the first class are over. She gets mad if you do ANYTHING else in class even though she just reads off the slides. Have to work a lot for a very small chance at extra credit. I wanted to scream every day in that class.

As a Marketing major I found the material to be very interesting! You stay involved in the lectures. However, the instructor was very unprofessional and rude. Ironically you are graded on your professionalism and attendance in this class. 10/10 do not recommend.

Hopkins made this class that should be easy too difficult by making her tests tricky and too detailed. She also promised us at the beginning of the year that we would get an A in the class if we averaged a B on the tests and had 100% attendance, but she acted like she never said that at the end of the year and didnt hold up to it. Although I have not personally had a bad one-on-one encounter with Dr. Hopkins, I will say that she is condescending in class. She is not an accessible teacher. Her tests are overcomplicated. Her lectures might seem fun and interesting at first until you realize barely any of it is on the tests. As a good student, I regret taking this class.

This class sucks to begin with, and Hopkins makes it worse. Unclear grading criteria and her lectures aren't even relatable to the exams. Take someone else.

I took Social Marketing from her during a summer mini semester. This class was a huge flop - she didn't grade our weekly assignments until 3 days after grades were due. We had an online group project that had no proper criteria given. Tests were all extremely difficult and not properly graded. She was extremely unfair, rude, and unaccessible.

Very tough professor... She took this intro to Marketing class way too seriously. Your grade is from 3 exams, a final, and attendance/tophat questions in class. The tests are very hard and most of the answers come from the textbook and not even her lectures.. Avoid if you want a good grade.

I can't say enough bad things about this class. The entire semester was a sh*t show, and it's not all Dr. Hopkins fault. She was assigned to our class over a month in after Dr. Kincaid had a wreck. She is an amazing lecturer, energetic, engaging and organized. But, her tests are unacceptably difficult for an intro class and doesn't curve ever.

She teaches about professionalism, but is probably one of the most unprofessional teachers I have ever had. She will not email you back, and doesnt even put her actual email on the syllabus. Stay away from taking her as a teacher as much as possible

Karen Hopkins is everything wrong with marketing taught in Universities. She is rude to students and seems to be about 15 years behind current market trends. While I received a good grade in the course, I've learned more about marketing from picking up a book from Amazon than her $1200 course. Find another professor if possible.

Karen is the most vague professor at Auburn. She does not give clear direction on what will be on the exams and only reads the words of the slides in class. HUGE waste of students' time. I would not have taken this class if it wasn't a requirement.

Don't take her. The averages for all of the exams have been C's which I find ridiculous. A lot of us taking this course are in much harder majors and can't afford to dedicate all of our time to this course. She takes this class way too seriously.

Another ridiculous course that demands more time than necessary, tests you on concepts you're not prepared for, and has lectures that waste your precious tuition money. You'll probably be forced into this course because of your major. Get ready for attendance points via tophat (10%), packback (10%), tests (80%), and an incoherent bonus structure.

Karen needs to realize people only take the class because it's required. No one outside of a marketing major wants to spend the time and effort required to pass the class. The tests can make you feel like you made a decent grade until you turn it in. It's one of those classes that can hurt you in important classes because of its difficulty.

Some test questions were on things I'd never even seen before in her slides, and the class is EXTREMELY test heavy. You'll leave her exams feeling like you did way better than you actually did. As easy this course is, Karen sets it up to be time-consuming and demanding for no reason whatsoever. Takes herself and this course way too seriously. Worst teacher in the marketing department you could possibly take.

Not only does Karen expect you to read 40-50 pages a chapter, with 4-5 chapters a test; she organizes her exam questions like you're due to submit a doctorate level thesis in marketing. Does not understand at all that most students are only in this INTRO LEVEL MKTG class because our degrees force us to take at least 1 class in this department.

Completely unprofessional and very evident she doesn't care about her students and the fact that they are taking other classes other than hers (that are more than likely more difficult and way more important.) Gave my class an extra credit assignment that took upwards of 2 hours for a single point. Not only did this only count as 1 point for extra credit, but she also put it in Canvas incorrectly to where it actually detracted from my overall grade, and thanks to her syllabus, emailing her about changing grades is considered grounds to lose more points.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. She takes this class too seriously for an Intro class. She doesnt round, even if youre at a 79.99% or even 69.99%. Shes the only reason Im graduating a semester late.

Tests are tough, nothing like the lecture.

The material is pretty simple, but KH made this be by far the worst class I've taken at AU. Class was 300 people, so it was lecture based. She basically read off the slides, making it unbearable. Tests were 80% of grade and all were 5 chapters each (comprehensive final), making it 175 pages worth of material/test. Recommend avoiding if possible.

Honestly not that hard but she takes this intro level course way too seriously. It's like you're sitting in a seminar with someone who treats the material like it's the most important thing you'll ever learn when not even half the class is marketing majors. She also doesn't round grades and the bonus structure doesn't actually help your grade.

WORST TEACHER. My only B this semester & I'm taking harder, more important classes. Spent so much unnecessary time on this course just to end up with a B. She is the worst professor that I have had. This is a required Intro class for my major and she makes it harder than my core major classes. Barely does any work for the class- does not even teach it. I have no idea how you can get an A in her class, I read the textbook everyday and her tests are so specific, especially with COVID you would think she would be more helpful, doesn't even do many lectures, only once a week for a 3 credit class and they are short and useless.

I took the exam on Honor Locker, and firstly she said I didn't scan the room, then she said I did not scan well, what? She graded test by subjective assume, she didn't let me see which questions I made wrong answer, so how can I review and prepare for the final test?

In the nicest way possible I am SHOCKED she has even a 2/5. This is a principles class and is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. I am not a marketing or business major but had to take this for credit and it was so hard because a lot of vocab and stuff learned in major classes like those are used. SO hard and tests are difficult.

The worst professor I have ever had. She has made me hate my Marketing minor and decided to drop it. She does not care about her students. She throws a book at you and says learn. 92 pages of notes for one test and only 50 questions with NO STUDY GUIDE, NO REVIEW, NO ZOOM. DO NOT TAKE!

Dr. Hopkins put in the most minimal effort possible by a professor. Lectures (5 min per section) are virtually useless, because her tests (85% of the grade) are T/F and application based directly off of the textbook. It's passable, but don't expect a high grade unless you have endless hours to read through and annotate the textbook. Try to avoid!

Her lectures do not matter at all and she doesn't test on what she talks about in class. All of her test questions come straight out of the textbook. You can't go back and review your answers on tests.

Tests were online and it would NOT let you go back and check your answers. Her lectures are just her rambling and her slides do NOT HELP! Read the book.

This is probably the hardest class I've taken at Auburn so far. This is an extremely difficult class, and it's a principles course. If you don't read the book it's basically a death sentence. Tests are straight memorization but there are always 4 to 5 chapters to memorize for every test. Lectures are practically pointless. Read the book!!!

I took this class and attended probably 3 of her online lectures at most because they were completely pointless. Reading the textbook will help you do well in this class, but the test are still very difficult. The class wasn't terrible difficulty wise, but what was really unfortunate is that Dr. Hopkins did not care about helping us out at all.

She makes it ridiculously difficult. I enjoy the content &felt like I over prepared going into tests only for the Q's to trick me. It was incredibly frustrating. Lectures are near pointless considering she covers about 1 subject per lecture. She never gave a study guide ver gave clear directions of what to study. I felt like I learned on my own.

Exams extremely difficult and you can't go back to questions. Lectures are a waste of time and don't over 1% of exam material. Read the book for your own sake but get ready for over 200 pages per exam. Do ALL of the Packbacks: that saved my grade. Do any extra credit she throws your way. Make friends with people with test banks. Tough class.

Hopkins is ridiculous as she teaches a majority of asynchronous classes, yet makes her MKTG classes so hard and impossible to well in. Exams are 85% of your grade, and they are on ProctorU. She gives no extra credit, makes all assignments PackBack, and expects us to be able to learn business marketing, which is in-depth, without any help from her.

Bar none the hardest class ive taken at Auburn. Its not really the class but the teacher. The lectures she posts have nothing to do with the test. You cannot pass the class without reading the book. I would advise to use the worksheets she gives out and to know all of the vocabulary from each chapter. Shes super nice just a sucky teacher.

Test are 75% of your grade. You only 3 and a final. The test are impossible and she does not tell you how to study. The only way I did half decent was reading the entire text book. Which 5 chapter per test. Her lectures are pointless. I would not recommend this teacher to anyone.

Dr. Hopkins is extremely funny. She makes Principles of Marketing as hard as she possibly can. Do all the packbacks and do not listen to anything she says. You have to read the textbook to make a good grade. Take anyone else. You would be better off learning from a deaf chimpanzee.

Karen Hopkins is literally insufferable. She has absolutely no selling experience and is teaching a personal selling class. You have so many assignments with literally no direction and that make absolutely no sense on how to apply it. She is annoying, rude, and demeaning. She literally tries to make you feel stupid like all Karens of the world do.

I would not take this class again. All the assignments were just a bunch of busy work, with little information to complete them. Then she would grade them harshly. The class was mandatory, but I did not learn anything from the lecture. There were no tests which was nice, but just way too many assignments and presentations.

This teacher is very passive-agressive and will call you out in class for simply typing on your computer while she is talking. Unclear directions on assignments, does not respond to emails, makes you draw numbers and get with groups almost every class, calls on you randomly in class. Definitely would not take her again.

This course taught me exactly how not to run a class: barely any instruction, a textbook meant to be absorbed completely, and little to no help when asked. To top it all off, every assignment had to be manually synced on our end, as Professor Hopkins couldn't be bothered. Do not take this course.

This class is a massive waste of time. Our homework is through an app that was made in 2003 and has never been updated. The homework does nothing valuable in teaching you, and I have not learned one thing in her lectures. I pay a lot of money to go here and this class is an extreme waste.

Professor Hopkins assignments are vague and arbitrary, often seeming like they were made up on the spot. Her lectures are chaotic and useless. Roughly a third of class time is devoted to "guest speakers"- who were actually just recruiters from various companies. A significant portion of our grade is based on a broken app.

This professors grade book is based off of attendance and a broken app to complete assignments on. Not to mention her "guest" speakers are just low-tier company recruiters trying to take advantage of graduating students without a plan.
