okay teacher
She lectures alot. She has you buy the book, but doesnt go by the book. So if you dont show up for class its not like you can read the book to know where your class is. Just show up for class because she will email all 15 pages (size 10 font) of notes before the test!
I honestly open the text book that I HAD TO BUY ONCE! Dont buy it! She lectures alot, good class. Notes are helpful for test! Show up!
Hard to learn. Didn't like her teaching style. Likes to have the students teach the kids.
Shes too much... I dont think her teaching technique is good. Not a good teacher.... Lectures all class and goes extremely fast though it.
Horrible teacher.... Shes EXTREMELY boring... Is rude to students, never smiles unless shes talking about History... Lectures the whole class period, and test are soooooo difficult. I would spend hours preparing for her test and make low, LOW C's.... What does that tell you? Would NEVER recommend her...
Memorize power points and you will do okay on the tests!! Map quizzes are easy if you study! I made a B.
Dr. Huggin takes a unique approach to teaching this class. Instead of strict emphasis on memorization of dates, she lectures on history as a series of stories. This makes learning about historical people and events much more memorable.
She invites class discussions on related topics to encourage student participation. In addition, she utilizes presentations and videos as supplemental materials. Dr. Huggin also stresses the importance of history research, which is often an overlooked area in most other types of college classes. The research assignments certainly improve a stude
As far as testing goes, Dr. Huggin offers a variety of questions and essays which is helpful especially if you are stronger in one of these areas versus the other.
This professor makes herself available to students outside the classroom. Overall, Dr. Huggin?s method of instruction fosters academic growth. She has an apparent passion for history and an obvious concern for her students? success in her course.
Attendance is not mandatory but she will send around a sign in sheet on days when a lot of people skip. Her tests do require reading the book and actually studying. The research project is one of the most ridiculous assignments I have ever completed. It takes hours and her expectations are VERY high. Good luck!
She is alright, but her tests do not go with her lectures or the reading at all!!!
Ms Huggin is such a sweet lady! Her test hoever do not go with her lectures sometimes. DONT FORGET TO READ!! you have to read your chapters in order to do well in this class. Good teacher :)
Not a good professor. No notes given, test is weird combo of text, lecture, and stuff pulled out of thin air. AVOID!
Do not take her. She's incredibly unorganized and her teaching style is incredibly difficult to follow. She flies through powerpoints which aren't even notes. They're more like bullets of notes to herself on what she wants to lecture, not to help you understand. No study guide. Takes forever to grade things and return grades. If you do take her prepare to read the book very very throughly and take the best notes possible. Avoid her if at all possible.
Just graduated from highlands &she was the worst teacher I've ever had. Her "notes" make NO sense and she does nothing to help the class prepare for the test. If you have problems, she won't correct them. She does not curve appropriately. Takes FOREVER to pass back graded material. Seemed nice @ 1st then quickly showed true colors. Do NOT take her!
She is the worst teacher i ever had in my whole life. Her test doesn't go with the power point, she is very unorganized. So is you value your GPA or your Grades do not even think about taking her even for a second.
Awful teacher. Time for her to stay home with the kids. Teaching is NOT her calling in life. Doesn't do anything to help the students; extremely rude and defensive when you ask her a question; doesn't go by the book; powerpoints are unorganized. AVOID HER CLASS!!!
One of the worst teachers i`ve ever had. i had her for HIST 2111 studied my butt of but still made a B. Had her again for HIST 1111 and she was evern worse. She loved giving us essay questions but never returned them back. when we asked her she said she doesnt give them back. she never even showed us what we made on any of the essays. AVOID if poss
Not an effective teacher. Unorganized. Her expectations are unrealistic.
I took her class online. It was absolutely horrible. You have a midterm and a final that are a total of 60% of your grade. The homework has nothing to do with what we are doing in class so you have to be really good at studying onyour own. She doesnt provide study guide for tests. You post summaries of sections as your discussion which is stupid.

Huggin is a horrible teacher. I'm getting ready to drop her class because it's extremely difficult. Her tests are over like 8 chapters at a time and there is no study guide. Her lectures are way too boring and hard to take notes on. The powerpoint notes dont make any sense. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!
IF YOU WANT TO PASS THIS CLASS THEN YOU SHOULD PROBABLY DROP YOUR OTHERS BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO NEED TO SPEND ALL OF YOUR TIME STUDYING FOR THIS GOOD FOR NOTHING TEACHER.
Attention:Why she still teaches I have know idea!Im a 3.8 student who went into her class trying to stay positive from the negative things I heard. At the beginning she tries to warn you to drop the class. Her powerpoints stopped working for half the semester and she told us to use our imagination for pictures.was mad at us for writing power points.
Very sweet, kind woman, I want to make that clear. She is very very nice. But I didn't enjoy her class one bit. Very scattered, lectures very often don't match up to the test. I dropped this class. She is one of the only history profs at Highlands Matietta, so you will probably have her. Recommend talking with her as much as possible about material
Western Civ 2 is the bane of my existence this semester. There are two tests. Each are over exactly half of the book, and are very difficult and detailed. Every week a long research assignment that vaguely pertains to the lesson is due. I would avoid her class like the plague. It is designed to fail students.
She was an excellent teacher! I loved her if you want to learn history this is the one teacher that knows her stuff! I was horrible at history before I entered her class and when I left I was really educated on history. If you want to be successful this is the professor to take!
Mrs. Huggin is a wonderful professor that is passionate about her job. She wants her students to succeed and goes out of her way to offer help. She is has high expectations and you WILL have to study! (If you'd rather not work hard you pobably shouldn't be in college anyway.)Mrs. Huggin is patient, kind, and easy to talk to. Overall GREAT prof!
Dr. Huggin is amazing! She is extremely lenient and will work with you if you ever need help with any assignment. A lot of people who do not keep up with projects/assignments, and do not put a lot of effort into the class may complain, but she is a wonderful professor. She is very encouraging and truly has student?s best interest at hand.
Great professor but make sure to read the chapter that is assigned before class because she will ask questions. Test are easy if you read the textbook.
Dr. Huggin is a kind woman who thouroughly enjoys History. Her class is not easy. It requires reading and studying regularly. However, it is possible to do well if you attend class and work hard. Dr. Huggin is a little spacey sometimes. I don't know that I'd take her class again, but I wouldn't go out of my way not to either.
Dr. Huggin is a great instructor. You must read EVERY chapter assigned in order to stay on top. There are 3 Exams the whole semester, so each exam is packed with alot information. Study guides are provided and are very helpful, but again it's ALOT of info since the chapters are broken down into 3 tests. Would definitely recommend.
She's a good teacher. She will do her best for you to get the grade that YOU desire, but you must talk to her bc she doesn't know what you don't know or understand. Her map quizzes are easy if you take only 10 mins/day for 2 days to study (before the map quiz). Her test are a combination of power points and lectures. Oh, READ THE BOOK
This class is ridiculous. This teacher teaches this history class like its a 4000 level course. It is a basic history class and should be treated as such not over complicated with useless memorization of names and dates. If I were a history major I would expect to have to commit this type of thing to memory but for a non history major, nuts.
Took the class online. Mandatory to read the book, but outlines and study material are provided. You can use the book for the midterm and final, which as of 2014, make up your entire grade aside from a small research paper. Dr. Huggin is INCREDIBLY helpful, I thoroughly enjoyed communicating with her and wish I would have taken her class in person!
Ms. Huggin enjoys teaching history but to be honest she really needs to work on her powerpoint. Her powerpoint is very useless so you have to really pay attention & take notes when shes talking. To me it was no help because she talks really fast & her notes are so unorganized & not detailed AT ALL. I liked history then but she made me dislike it :
She is a great teacher. Her Power Points are a bit vague but she does that so that students listen instead or writing stuff down. I started recording her lectures and ended up passing her class with a B. I could have gotten an A but I didn't study like I was supposed to. I will definitely take a class with her again.
I would not recommend taking a class from this instructor! You will work very hard in her class and receive no additional help when needed. Tough grader on all assignments and final counts as 60 percent of your grade. Comes across as very harsh at the start of the semester and I thought about dropping the class. I wish I had!
For the people who complain, are the ones with a 2.0 GPA, and expect an easy A without doing anything. Like all classes in College, you have to read like 5 pages every class to know the information, and discuss later. Her PowerPoint are vague and not helpful, but then again she gives you a study guide for the test, so you don't need it. Easy A
Just like any teacher, If you pay attention and study the study guide you will pass the class!
Dr. Huggin's is a great teacher but her lectures make sense most of the time. She gets distracted very easily and jumps around from one lecture to another which has nothing to do with each other at all so it is very hard to follow along. Her class is very boring.. I have always loved History but the way she taught it made me hate it very much.
I had so many struggles throughout the semester, but as long as you communicate with her she will work with you. Make sure you know how to cite and do annotations
Dr. Huggin is passionate about history and current events. This course is not to get an "easy A" for sitting; so if you are lazy, do not take this class. You are expected to read at least 7 pages per day for discussion. She does give a great study guide, which proves helpful. 3 tests, no cumulative final, and sometimes extra credit. Participate!!!
This class makes no sense to me. You read the book and respond in a discussion. You take a 5 question quiz with 5 minutes to complete god forbid you need to think about her poorly worded questions. Her mid terms are a joke, 40 questions that are in her POV. Not the historical answer you would expect. she never teaches the class just a grader !!!
If you take it online, expect to teach your self everything from via book. Make sure you follow directions on all assignments to the tee. Midterm and Final are very hard and not easy to study for because a lot of questions are more her opinion. Pros: you can use your book on midterm and final. Con: you only get one min per question so not helpful
I'm not exactly sure where people struggle in Dr. Huggin's classes. She provides a study guide for all exams, and if you fill it out thoroughly using the textbook, you'll ace the test. Her lectures are helpful, but not necessary nor do you necessarily need to read before class (although she says you do.) Literally, just do the study guides. Easy A
Huggin comes across very rude. She will not answer questions appropriately, her answers are not helpful, all she does is refers to the book. The online class is based off of quizzes, midterm, and final exam. You have four writing assignments that she grades based off of her opinion. This class is not easy whatsoever. Take a different professor!
I think she is a very fair teacher. As long as you take the time to read the book and at least browse over the power points you'll do well.
The course itself is not hard. She makes it easy for her students to pass the class. She provides study guides and practice questions. However, her lectures are often disorganized and unnecessary. The PowerPoints are not helpful at all, and she talks non-stop from beginning to end. She's not good at answering emails either.
Easiest class I have ever taken. Never studied and missed a few classes and still aced every test and quiz. Professor Huggin is awesone and makes her classes fun and interesting.
One of the easiest classes I've taken. You only have 2 test (online class) midterm and final both open book. The quizzes are 5 questions and gives you 2 chances to take it. Post and reply each week for discussions which are majority of your grades. She responds to emails very fast. You should definitely take her online!
Great teacher. Easy class. Show up and study the notes and you get a easy A.
She is a really great professor who wants her students to do well. Her tests aren't difficult you just got to pay attention and study. She also gives you a study guide that tells you what to know for the test.
Without a doubt the best class I ever took. Class feels like going to hear a story. Just read the book an listen in class and you get an easy A. I never made lower than a 90 on anything in her class. The information is so interesting and relevant. She is easy to talk to and fun. I would take another class definitely.
Dr. Huggin is great! This class was super easy and fun. She is in constant contact and gives great feedback. Weekly discussion posts, a few written assignments that are easy, and open book midterm and final. Doesn't get easier.
She may seem tough but her class is really easy! Fill out the study guides thoroughly and completely for the 3 t/f quizzes & 3 tests, use the map outlines she posts on D2L to study for the 3 map quizzes, follow directions for the homework assignments she gives out & the research project, STUDY, & take good notes and you will definitely pass!
I loved her class! The only issue I had with her class was I felt she was very vague in her lectures. She teaches her class in the president's terms and asks questions like "who was president when ... happened," "what happened during ...'s presidency." It can be really confusing since she relies on videos a lot too. She also never puts grades in.
If you are looking to take her for Western Civ I online, take her. Easy A. Lenient grader, although the writing assignments are time consuming. You will read a lot. Quizzes are easy and you have multiple attempts to get a 100. If you do the study guides before the midterm/final you won't make below a 90 on the exam. Super easy A, interesting class.
Dr. Huggin is so caring. She explains things very well. Literally anyone that gets less than a B in her class is not trying at all. She literally gives you the study guides and EVERYTHING on her tests is over what she talked about in class. I know so many people with Cs and Ds in her class and they even admit they do not study for her exams.
I was scared to take an online history class but it really wasn't that bad. All you need to do is read the book and you'll do fine. Also make sure you do the writing assignments exactly the way she says to and it'll be an easy A. The discussions aren't hard either just put a little bit of thought into them and you'll be good.
The first history class that I actually enjoyed. She made it interesting and fun. She made sure to not only teach the history but to make it human and add realness. She is also very sweet! I would definitely take her again for other history classes. If you learn what's on the study guide and come to class, you'll pass with an A or B, no proble
A little extra. For a simple history class its alot of info to read thru as far as syllabus&assignment. main thing is to do the long study guides for the midterm and test. The test & writing assignments are worth the most so do good! 2 attempts at 5 quizzes. Would recommend online instead of campus tho. Take it with simpler classes
Shes sweet and nice but, she is very lecture heavy. Books, power points. It can get boring.
do not recommend her class if you are visual learner, she lectures most of her class and it slow in grading. Very nice lady, but not the best prof.
I wouldn't say the class is too bad. It's online so pretty much everything is on you. Usually one to two weekly discussion posts on chapters in the book, and a total of 5 writing assignments that were a little difficult. Also, she allowed us to use the text book for midterm and final. Easy A if you stay focused. "you CAN do this!"
Your grades reflect the time put in. If you put in the effort you'll get the A.
Amazing prof is very nice and understanding! gives study guides, easy quizzes, very straightforward. Easy A if you put in the work, I would 100% recommend taking her class.
Not too bad. Discussion and Quiz every week but theyre not hard. Final and midterm are 70 questions but theyre not on lockdown browser! Overall, good professor.
You shouldn't judge a book by its cover just like the same as how you shouldn't judge a Karen by her name. Professor Huggin here, out of all of my 6 classes I'm taking this year has got to be the most caring professor. Everything you ask, she'll reply back in a matter of minutes. She wants you to pass her class, why are most professors not like her
Loved Professor Huggin, I had a lot going on during last semester and she was so understanding and sweet!
Dr. Huggin is literally an angel. She is very kind and professional in all of her emails. She is very available for any sort of help that the student might need and sends multiple emails each week with any changes or clarification to assignments. She is very lenient on due dates and if you need an extension just ask.
My biggest complaint is she does not grade your work or give feedback in a timely manner.
Very clear on how she grades assignments and tests/quizzes! The syllabus lays everything out so there's no room for surprises. The semester was a lot shorter, but with the group assignments and participation laid out it was very easy to stay engaged in the class. Great feedback/respond time. Essay guidelines were perfectly easy to follow.
She was absent a few times, and the study guides were poor. She was also not a punctual person, which was very unprofessional.
I sent a professor a email in the middle of the course and there was no response to the email. I was trying to get a review on what they wanted me to write the paper on or if I could rewrite the paper. And I never received any good feedback on what they wanted. Almost failed because of one assignment.
I consider myself a dedicated and responsible student, but this professor extends no grace and has unattainable expectations. Do not take a maymester or a summer class of hers. You will have no time or energy for anything else!
Tbh shes a fair professor. just do your work and email her if you have any questions. her instructions are usually clear enough. she takes a long time to grade assignments though
She is very thourough and detailed, almost to a fault. When opening her assignments, its overwhelming with words. Her assignments are not very engaging and just overall boring. It can be hard to make History fun but she doesnt have a good sense of creativity. Although her grading style isnt too harsh, i would not take her class again.
Very tough grader. She was the only class I ever received a B in.
