One of the hardest English teachers I've ever had. She's very fair though. She'll get to the point and let you know what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong. Only a good idea if you're considering English as your major.

Really great prof, but you have to work for it. It's easy to see her passion is 2nd year english, she hates teaching about commas! But she loves the Romantics. Very intersting class.

She prepared me well for SFU English. I'm glad she didn't baby us.

Karen is a hard marker, but the reason I stayed in her class is because she knows what she's talking about. I know so much more than I did when I started the course, and I would take it again if I could.

Best teacher I've had yet. Has midterm, final + 3 other essays. If you have any STYLE to your writing and some opinion you'll get a B/A. If your writing is dry and relies on lots of summary-C. Classes are fun, lots of discussions.

She expects alot from her students. Class discussion is open and fruitful. I just wish she gave us more direct help with essays (but I guess that's what office hours are for).

I really enjoyed having Karen for english this semester!She is a hard marker, but when you finish the course, you will be better equipted for future courses.She is willing to help you whenever you need help!I'd highly recommend her!!It's worth being hard!

Thoroughly enjoyed this course. Teacher is entertaining in her lectures (most of the time) and more than willing to help you with essays. Take advantage of her office hours, she is a great help, but make sure you read the material or you're out of luck.

Karen has high expectations, and although she's tough she is a fair marker, and very consistent. she is always available if you need help. she made me the writer i am. don't expect an easy ride, but expect a good one.

Great teacher! Very helpful. She is such a sweet lady, and really gets excited about english, which makes her classes a blast. Outside of class she spent hours with me helping me with essays. I highly recommend her to anyone.

Karen is the best teacher i've ever met i think. She is so good at helping people to understand and work hard for what they want, a real pleasure to be in her class. Her marking is fair and the content not too hard. Highly Recommended if actually want to learn something.

In her second year class I did great all semester because I had her proof read my stuff. Follow her advice and you'll do very well. However, I ended up with a B cuz she does mark hard on exams. Marks hard on essays and exams but she is helpful.Just get her to help you and you'll do okay.

Karen Inglis is a great teacher and the nicest! She is very understanding and wants to make her students an elite group of writers! However, don't slack for one minute or it will reflect in your grade!

She is a wonderful teacher. I have a 7:00 class and she energizes the whole class, even though we are there until 10:00 (she NEVER lets us out early, quite the opposite). She is a wonderful teacher who seems to love her job. Can't ask for more than that.

Excellent teacher. she marks hard so don't slack off.. but she explains things very well.. and she is determined to help you get a good grade. she's open to every opinion.. and will help put you on the right track. Only downside.. is she talks a LOT and often goes over the class time limits.

While some argue that Karen is close minded and condescending, this has not been my experience.I was challenged to learn in her class and excelled while maintaining my own opinions and presenting arguements that were contrary to hers.If you are willing to be challenged and present your own arguements thoughtfully, you will excel in her classes.

this woman is brilliant. quite the opposite of close minded, its just that she gives a whole new and amazing perspective on things which some of her students do not understand.

Great professor, willing to help you learn, if you're willing to try. VERY HARD MARKER if your looking for an easy A don't take her, she's very narrow-minded has only one way of thinking, its her way or the high way! If your up for a challenge then shes the one for you!

Wow, I had trouble fitting all the English courses that I've taken with her! :) Yes, I have taken three out of my four semesters with Karen Inglis, and all three times I directly sought her for a prof. She was recommended by my grade 12 teacher, and I'd definitely recommend her to anyone interested in English! Fair marker. Awesome teacher!

An extremely clear and helpful teacher.

Very hard marker, I don't think anyone in the class got higher than a B. She has very good ideas to mould your way of thinking, but I feel she needs to work moer on in class critical thinking.

Best English Prof I've had!!! Really. She completely engages the class in conversation and makes you think. She does have a tendency to offend people a little bit but she doesn't mean to. She teaches you how to make an argument and makes the class really interesting.

She is a very dynamic teacher. She might seem a bit tough at first, but do anything to help you learn. Go see her during her office hours.

She IS a hard marker, but she has taught me things i've never known. She WILL get you ready for the next level english, because she just teaches you everything! Karen is one of the most enthusiastic profs I've ever met. She is always willing to help you with your paper, hence, a better mark! Even if you're just trying to make it thru 1100, compare her ratings to ... Pam Bookham, for instance... No comparison!

many say she is a hard marker..which is true and some of you should be prepared to fail, BUT ..she marks the way that is recommended and this tells you what to expect..I hate it when teachers just pass you and raise your expectations...you'll regret one day. If you need help, she will give you extra work to do that will help you.

she is a GREAT teacher to learn about writing from. i wasn't very good, and i learned lots! she IS a hard marker. but all english teachers are! i would totally reccomend her! she doesn't have too much homework and gives you lots of time! BUT DONT MISS THE DAYS WHERE YOU DO GROUP WORKSHOP ON YOUR ESSAY! you NEED that when handing in your essay!

Fantastic teacher. I didn't necessarily love English before I came to her class but she is making me think about changing my major...she is that great of teacher. I wouldn't say the easiest (she's not too difficult) but she is engaging, interesting, so helpful. You can tell she loves English. I totally recommend her 100%.

AMAZING!!!!! she really loves what she is teaching and is extremely helpful all you have to do is ask and she's willing to go over your writing with you. enjoyed her class so much i'm taking another with her this term!!

Karen is probably the best teacher you can pick. English is a hard subject especially if its not your major. Karen's class is very straight forward. I had her for English 1100 and got a good mark & for 1204 I walked away with an A! So in short she is very informative, clear, and understands that we are just college students.

Great teacher. She does want you to do well, but expects you put in the required effort. She will tell you in the first class that spending 1-2 hours on an essay won't cut it, but as an essay can be worth 25% of the marks, that's understandable. Will know all your names by the end of the first class.

Karen expects hard work in order to get a decent grade, but that's no surprise. Most English profs expect about the same or more...the difference is that Karen actually really TEACHES you things...I took 2 other English courses before her, and I learned more in a month in her class than I did in those 2 other classes combined. Amazing teacher. I don't think I could have picked anyone better for an entry level English class. She definitely cares about her students and classes. Attend the classes, pay attention, and you will succeed.

She warns you at the beginning of class that she expects people to work hard for their marks. Also, if you are lost with the essays, she is willing to help you out. Even if you write an essay that she disagrees with, guaranteed you'll get a good enough mark if you include valid points and examples. No doubt she was difficult, but she shouldn't spoo

I took Karen's English 1099 class and found my love of writing. She is extremely helpful if asked. Karen is clear about what she expects from the beginning. If you follow through and actually try you should do well. She can be a tough marker however if you take her advice and improve your grades will go up. I will be taking her 1100 class :)

Karen is a great teacher. What she teaches you for english is actually helpful and will benefit you with all your other courses. You must complete all the little tiny assignments because they lead up to the bigger assignments. Karen has a lot of energy and treats you well.

Karen is one of those few prof's that actually cares about the students. Even though she is a hard marker her see if always willing to help and will go the extra mile to help anyone. As long as one tries to make a effort they will do fine.

I went into this class with very poor skills in grammar and such. By the end of the semester with her, my English level was noticeably improved. I will admit, her class was difficult, but she was really helpful too. She is also very passionate about the course! I would recommend her if you want to be there and really make an effort to learn.

Good prof but the course is designed for females. Karen is a nice lady, but she is a feminist which can get kind of annoying. All we worked on all semester was Cinderella.

Karen is awesome! Best english teacher I have ever had at Kwantlen. I never thought I could write essays but in her class I drastically improved and finished the course with an A. She's tough and will expect a lot of work from you, but she is very helpful and makes class interesting.

She gives me higher marks than I would give myself, so I don't think she actually marks as hard as people say she does. She is a wise, passionate teacher and I always learn something new in each class. Watch out, though, she asks people randomly for answers--even if you're trying your best not to make eye contact. TL;DR She is awesome. Take her.

Karen is a nice person, but she is extremely difficult in marking. She is very inconsistent too. I received a C- on one of my papers and didn't understand why, i went to talk to her and she couldn't tell me why, so she changed my grade to a C+. Makes me wonder what else she marked wrong.

All English teachers are tough graders. So be prepared to work hard. U have to make at least 2 revisions on ur 1st draft before u submit it in order to get a good grade. If u turn in the one u did the night before, u probably wont do well. So start a week prior and go see her in her office. She will help you! And don't skip class! Get bonus marks!

I was in Karen's class in 2003. I am now on full scholarship in graduate school. Her teaching prepared me for the academic journey I am still on today. I remember her challenge to students wanting As: once you have a hold on the how-to's of writing, you must take risks to make your work outstanding! Take her course, work hard, and learn from her!

Karen is a great professor! Yes, she expects you to have done all of the readings and to attend class regularly but if you do this you can count on her to be respectful. Go see her in her office hours if you are feeling stuck!

Karen is an alright professor. She is more into the small details than the big picture. One thing I disliked was how her opinions influenced her marking. If you present your ideas in a paper clearly and back it up with evidence, but the point you make isn't what she wants to see then expect a lower mark than a student who agreed with her point.

Karen is the best English teacher in Kwantlen. She marks essays very lenient and an easy A+. I can't even fathom on why there are people who think this is a hard class as almost every class of her have a high mark average. This class is easily a GPA booster and she actually cares about the students. I would take her class again.

I took Karen for English 1202. Her class discussions are enjoyable because she cares about the subject matter and her students. She also values student's interpretations of the text and takes different opinions into account. Smart and funny. She had us do reading quizzes at the beginning of class. Be prepared to write and read a lot. She's great!

If you have uniques ideas and can back them up! If you like to engage in class discussions . . Karen's class will be heaven. She really listens to other students and value their ideas and very politely lets you know if you are going off to a wrong tangent.

Clearly describes the material and makes it easy to understand. Incredibly helpful and provides very interesting articles for assignments

Shes a great eng 1100 teacher, she marks everything within a week so youll know your mark throughout, theres 2 paragraphs written in class and then 3 take home essays, final essay is also a take home. Shes an average marker if you do what she says, youll get a good grade. Would take her again

Karen is an amazing professor who loves what she teaches. Karen also lives by the poetry that she teaches, which makes taking her class an experience that one cannot pass up. She is a fair grader and really wants to see unique ideas that reflect the student's engagement with not only the English discipline, but with the sentiments of the material.
