She prints out the notes for you and you fill in the blanks during class. Homework is online, you have unlimited tries to get it right, and it isn't due until test day. Great teacher.
She is honestly an amazing professor. She was new this year which is why there are not many rates on her, but she was so kind and helpful. She is also easy going and understanding. If you want to get an A and are willing to put in the effort you will. She is fantastic and students love her.
Really clear on explaining concepts, which is good for anyone who isn't a math whizz. Also, she's very helpful during her office hours and tries to help as much as possible. Easy A, the only reason I didn't get an A was because I skipped a few times in the beginning.
very nice teacher, there for you if you need her. answers any and all questions.
Professor Marino is amazing! She is always available to help you out--all you need to do is ask! Her lectures are clear cut and informative. You will learn a lot in this class!
Great teacher!! Gave printed notes to follow along with the lectures and gave really clear instructions throughout the whole semester, pretty lenient on homework as long as you gave a good faith effort and graded tests in the student's favor. Lost whenever I didn't go to class though. Not an Easy A, but I learned the material!
Thanks to Professor Marino, I finally passed college algebra! It's important you go to class because the notes are provided and she goes over them. There are also morning starters which can really help your grade, so show up! She is always willing to help, be it in class, through email, or during her office hours, so don't be afraid to ask! :)
Math has always been my worst subject and I don't even know how I passed any math after algebra 2. Seriously shes one of the best teachers I have ever had in my whole entire life, not only did she help me understand math but she is also very nice and caring when it comes to how she engages and helps her students. Ask a question and she will answer.
If math is not your best subject then you should definitely take her because she actually explains things in a way you can understand. You need to go to class because she grades a worksheet each class but she also gives printed notes that you fill in which are super helpful. She is really nice and loves to answer anyones questions.
I wanted to give her a 3.5 but couldn't find out how. She's very easy, even prints out your notes for you. Personally i found her a bit rude to me personally at times, and she gives more homework than most other College Algebra professors from what I've seen, hence my slightly lower grade. Overall easy and thoroughly explains everything, easy A.
Absolutely wonderful professor. She provides the lecture notes, and every lesson goes through each problem in front of you. Lectures aren't heavy. Pretty funny professor. If you need extra help, she is going to be available outside of class. You need to do homework in order to fully understand everything. Quizzes aren't hard.
Took her College Algebra class over the summer, and I couldnt think of a better professor to teach it. Ask something, shell answer (then again, it was only a 12 student class :/ ). Pro tip: show up 30 min early for a test, shell be there to answer any questions you have and help you with any last minute discrepancies.
I've always had a hard time with math but she made this course so easy for me! She gives fill in the blank notes for lectures which help you understand the material much better. There's one connect assignment for each section and a connect quiz for each chapter. Lowest test score is dropped! I highly recommend her.
Awesome teacher. She is so nice, if you need help she will definitely try. She drops lowest test and assignments.
Loved her as a teacher and as a person. I, unfortunately, am not a good test taker and ultimately had to withdraw. Make sure you study, especially if math isn't your strong suit. Tutoring for me is a must have because factoring for me is like stapling water to a tree. If you're stuck in mat1033, you should do fine, just take the tests seriously
Karen was great! She always had the notes posted on Canvas a few days before class so you could print them and follow along easily. She explained the material well & provided plenty of easy shortcuts around problems. Her homework is a lot, but it REALLY helps prepare for the test. Daily in-class worksheets count for a small part of the grade.
Karen is a great teacher. Our homework was online and wasn't due until the tests. We had 4 tests and a two part final. She gives out extra credit towards tests and the final. Attending class is crucial towards your grade. I ended the class with a 94%! Go to her office hours she's here to help and you'll pass. Take her you won't be disappointed :)
Best Stats teacher and sooo sweet. There are about 4 or 5 chapter tests. Attendance isn't mandatory but the class notes are very helpful when it comes to the online homework and test prep.
She can be very rude, and doesn't always understand that students need extra help. If math is not your strongest subject I wouldn't recommend taking her at all!
Gives vague feedback and doesn't clarify wrong answers Super friendly to talk to and answers questions well during office hours. Study guides had almost no relevance to tests and final exam. Writes down examples instead of clarifying steps to problems. Attendance "mandatory" for daily graded work. Online homework is hard and textbook sucks.
Karen would try really hard, however we did group work rather then her lecturing... for someone who isn't good at math the class is hard and you have to really work hard and ask a lot of questions. The class is supposed to be geared towards lower level math students and I feel as if its taught for kids who really understand math.
The teaching style that the class is taught in is unique and different. The class is more group-focused (although your grade is your own), which I did not like at first but it grew on me. The style that Karen used for this class was helpful and allowed me to grasp content quicker. Tests can be difficult so make sure you study.
Lectures are short and simple. All homework is online on MathLab. Tests were multiple choice.
Karen is amazing! She loves math and tries to make it as fun as possible which is great. Attendance is not mandatory, however she does in class worksheets as a grade so if you don't show up you get a 0 for that worksheet. Great feedback, helpful TA and amazing teacher. her notes are good. Uses MyMathLab for hw/review grade before tests. easy.
Karen was great, and I feel like I learned a good amount of math, which is incredible. She gives us printable notes, where the layout is made for us and we just have to write down the equations and definitions. She also has an extra credit question on the test. I would do the hw on mymathlab the day she lectures. She also made our final optional!
Karen is a true gem. Attendance is taken in the form of daily class work sheets based on the material from the lecture and aren't hard at all. Her office is easily accessible and it's easy to ask her questions during class. She knows not everyone is a math major and stats is required so she makes the class easy to pass. I absolutely loved her!
Didn't seem like she cared if anyone passed or not and would ignore students who raised their hands. Very passive aggressive. First 20 minutes of class she would go over 2-3 lessons then give us a worksheet then we would leave. Didn't go in-depth into the material at all. I basically learned everything from the MyMathLabs due before every exam.
does not go through notes with students and skips numerous steps with all notes she presents. Does not give good feedback to students. Will go out of her way to avoid your in class questions.
If you have a good understanding for math you can easily pass this class. The tests are exactly like the study guides. Lectures are very straight forward. Attendance is submitting a pic of a problem we did in class. If you fail it is 100% your fault.
Took this class for Summer B. Very straightforward with lots of online homework, but it helps prepare you for the tests. There are three tests which are equally weighted. She gave extra credit which especially helped on the last exam as she did it before the test. Math is not my favorite subject, but she made it easy for me to succeed.
Karen Marino is one of my favorite teachers. I took her once for Intermediate algebra and loved her so much I took her again for college algebra. Her class is run very smoothly with a section of notes, a worksheet you turn in each class (as participation and practice), and mymathlab homework. Go to class and it's an easy pass!
I am terrible at math. I hate math. Because of Karen, I have an A+ in general math. She makes things so easy to understand and the material is not difficult at all. She's caring and accessible. Attendance isn't mandatory but 10% of the grade is in-class worksheets. 6 chapter tests, lowest one dropped. Optional final. Will be taking her for stats!
I absolutely loved taking class with Karen. She is super sweet and really explains what is going on well. General Math is super easy if you just show up and pay attention. You will pass if you want to pass.
She lectures in class, followed by a worksheet that is turned in every day for credit. She simplifies things so much & is so great! Memorize the study guides and practice them multiple times before exams and you'll get an A in the class. She's hands down one of the best math teachers I've ever had. Take her!!!
Take her shes AMAZING best STATS professor at FGCU !!! She gives you many resources to use . She is caring and just a true GEM! I will miss her dearly . I had her for all my math classes and never regretted it ! If you need to clarify things go to her office hours she wants you to succeed and never shy away from asking questions in class!
I loved having Karen as my professor. She is so sweet and really wants to make sure everyone understands the concepts. The content is easy, even if math isnt your strongest subject. I would recommend her for anyone, she truly is the best and most engaged math professor Ive had thus far.
Karen was super sweet and you can for sure tell she wants her students to pass. Stats can be hard but she made it super clear and allowed us to use a notecard on most tests. Go to her office hours if you are confused & she will help you out. Every lecture there is a worksheet to complete for credit. Final is optional and the lowest test is dropped.
Karen is a great professor! I highly recommend her if you are going to be taking statistical methods. She gives you points for showing up and doing the in class activity and only a few exams. Pretty easy as long as you keep up with connect math! My favorite professor in the world <3
She was willing to be flexible during the coronavirus crisis, that should say everything.
Karen is amazing. She gives good lectures and provides a template for you to take notes. She is clear in class and you can easily go to her if you need more help. I would recommend her to anyone. She also lets you use an index card for notes on tests which helps a lot.
Goes thought a very helpful power point every class explaining the section. A fair amount of homework but she drops the lowest several homework, quizzes, in class worksheets grades. Along with one test grade. Im bad at math and ended with a mid B. Would recommend.
Karen is easily one of the most caring and compassionate professors I have come across thus far. She really wants you to pass and is super super sweet. Use her lecture note templates and you should have no problem with the hw or tests. She transitioned really well with the coronavirus and made life a lot easier.
Karen is really caring. I am not good at math but I passed with a great grade. Show up because you WILL have daily worksheets. They're easy but not doing them will affect your grade. Homework is online. She made the transition to online classes as smooth as possible (Covid-19 ).
She is absolutely the sweetest soul. I've taken her for 2 math classes and I would take her for all of them if I could! She genuinely cares about her students and if they succeed and offers outside help all the time!
Karen is great! I loved her class, her lectures and notes are very easy to follow. She cares for every one of her students and I genuinely enjoyed her class.
LOVE HER!!! She's a great professor and I highly recommend taking Statistics with her if she's available, very easy to pass if you study hard for exams.
Her videos and fill-in notes were so helpful. It was my second time taking stats and she made me completely understand the concepts. I could have gotten an A had I tried harder but overall happy with a B
This professor may come off as nice and caring but she is not at all. She can care less on helping you. All assignments are due by 5 pm. Tests are nothing of what she teaches. Would not recommend taking a class with this lady.
Best math teacher and explained everything really good, also has a lot of opportunities for extra credit
I've taken Karen for 3 courses now at FGCU and honestly she's probably the best professor I've had. Her teaching method is great and she seems to really care, she will answer any questions you have and is understanding in terms of slower learners. Just do the homework, listen in class and you'll pass no prob.
Karen is such a sweet teacher. If you got 100s on all of the quizzes and homework, which is easy bc you have unlimited tries, you get extra credit on exams. She also drops your worst grade in exams, quizzes and homework, I didn't have to take the last exam, and we didn't get a final. I saved all the work for the night before the exam and did fine.
Professor Marino is great. Ive never been a math person but she made statistics so easy to understand!! Class is easy and as long as you do the work, youll be able to get the concepts (in my experience. Obviously everybody is different). Leaves memes on each test and keeps everything updated and clear on Canvas. Wonderful!!
Prof Mario is a good choice. Here study guide videos were great and aligned with the test. The class was hard epically if you are not great at math. However, she gave out Prof. Neubek's lecture. They were ok but did not alight with the homework and were hard to follow if you're not the best at math. Overall I would take here in person it would help
Professor Marino is one of the nicest and sweetest professors I've had so far here at FGCU. Her lecture videos and notes are easy to understand. She drops your lowest test, 2 lowest worksheets, and lowest quiz score. She gives study guides for her tests as well!! She has office hours so that you get extra help if you need it!
Professor Marino is by far the best Professor you will ever have for any math course at FGCU. I seriously cannot recommend her enough. I had her for stats and elem. calc and she makes learning math so easy and her class is very well organized. She allows you to work on your own pace and is seriously a gem. It's hard to fail her class!
Do not take Marino for intermediate algebra. Her IAs do all of the hands work and she expects you to understand the curriculum after one lecture. She is extremely condescending if you don't understand a certain topic immediately and she makes you show your work the way she wants you to, regardless of whether you get the right answer. AVOID HER!
The class can be a challenge but if you get your work done on time and study for tests you will pass.
Professor Marino is a good professor. The homework is mostly lectures where you have to watch the videos and take notes at home but I rather have it done in class step by step so I know whats really going on. The tests weigh really heavy but you really have to know the concepts and do a lot of problems from homework which is completed in class.
Shes teaches based off of videos, I think it would be better if she actually taught in class. Being that it is a summer course I understand that it goes by fast but she helps around if theres a misunderstanding.
I don't have anything against the teacher but the teaching method was not the best for me. Having to study or listen to lectures and learn from home and do homework in class. I feel like it would be better if she taught and we could ask questions along the way.
Different style of getting you to learn math, but once you get used to it, it's very easy unless you have a tendency to procrastinate
This class requires great time management skills.
A lot of people will tell you not to take her, but honestly her class is not difficult. You have to watch lots of video notes that you must pay attention to in order to understand her class. Im terrible at math and passed with a 90 percent. Test are multiple choice and nearly the same as the study guide. As long as you try , you should be fine.
I took her my very first semester, and will be taking her again. She is so so sweet, and will help you if you just let her know you need it. Her class is not hard, unless you don't try. Her lectures were very well organized and I love her teaching style.
I really loved having Karen as my teacher this semester. She has you print out notes ahead of time that you fill in during lecture. You have to complete and correctly answer a worksheet before you leave class, but it's kinda nice because it ensures you know the material. Test are multiple choice and she drops your 2 lowest scores. I recommend.
Professor Marino is the best math professor Ive ever had. At the end of the year she drops 3 homework, 3 in class worksheets, and 1 test. She was always really helpful in class whenever I had a question too. As long as you do your work youll pass. I totally recommend taking this class.
Absolutely loved Professor Marino. I really recommend her to anyone who needs to take this course. She uses great notes to teach the lesson material and gives study guides almost identical to the test. There's a decent amount of homework and in-class worksheets, but if you do the work you will do well. She is so sweet and wants you to do well.
1st sem teaching calc. Simple and easy explainer. Have to attend class to get the notes and do worksheets. Gives answers to worksheet while doing it. Drops a test and some worksheets. Good at explaining along with the TA. Study guide is accurate to the test. Mostly MC usually one written answer. Extra credit given to study sessions before test.
She's the sweetest. Her class is easy if you go to class and understand the lecture. You have class worksheets to complete after each lecture, that is your attendance. Lots of homework but you have plenty of time to finish it.
Professor Marino is 10/10 shes an amazing professor and wants her students to pass. She is available for office hours at least twice out of the week and offers tons of extra credit. If you take the time for the class you will get an A. Students who fail simply dont put in any extra work outside of class
SO great! I am not a math person at all but Marino was great! It was a flipped classroom, but very well done. The notes matched the in class worksheets and homeworks/tests perfectly so it all made sense. Could not recommend a professor more for stats!! She drops a lot of grades too.
She was an excellent professor!!! Cares about her students and gives extra credit for the chapter tests. She also provides study guides for students that are extremely helpful! 5/5!
Enjoyed the class highly recommend
I took Marino for her College Algebra course and she is very good at her job, to say the least. I am horrible at math and have always dreaded it, but this Professor won't try and trick you. You have to meet her halfway, but she genuinely wants to see her students succeed and work for it. Her course is well organized with no surprises.
Amazing and caring professor. Truly wants her students to succeed and will help in whatever way you need.
Really caring professor who WANTS to see students succeed. Notes match HW and exams. There is a decent amount of hw but it helps you prepare and there are no "tricks". Offers HW Help days and is always ready to answer questions. Flipped classroom. 1 Quiz in a chapter. Drops 1 one grade from all graded categories.
TAKE HER. she gives A LOT of extra credit. and is very understanding. I was hesitant about a flipped classroom but it's honestly better than the regular lecture classes. there's a worksheet during the class when she'll show answers as you go- you can ask ?'s to her and the LA. I almost failed stats in hs but I've only gotten A's on all the tests.
If you need to take Stats and suck at Math, I strongly suggest taking Karen. Most of the Stats department is just filled with nerds who lose everyone because they're too deep in their academic bubble. Karen is really the only one who is not. The only bad things are the homework and lecture videos because they are super time-consuming.
I would highly recommend taking her class. I took her class for both calc and stat and she is great. She drops one test, three homework, and worksheets. Stat is a flipped classroom though which was a little more challenging.
I have never met a better professor and learning assistant in my life. I have taken stats twice before and failed until I took this class. You have to put in the work but I understood everything I learned and they genuinely care about your questions and success. You have to purchase connect math for homework and tests but it is worth it.
Took Marino for college algebra last summer. Great teacher and great TA. It was a flipped class, so she explained everything in detail in her online lectures and then you would have to do the online lessons. You would then go to class and go over the lessons, and then get another mini lecture and start homework again in class. Great teacher.
Karen's online class has been one of the best math courses I have ever taken. I'm not the best at math, I quite honestly don't like it very much, but her class and the way she structured it online has made my life in this class so much less stressful than I had imagined Stats would be. She is such a sweet and helpful person too, so that is a bonus.
Karen is an extremely caring professor who genuinely wants to see her students succeed, you just have to meet her half way. The class is designed so that as long as you are putting in the work, you will pass the class. Do the online lectures, turn in all your homework and study and you will be fine. I am taking her for every math class possible!
Class was pretty easy, however you may tend to have a decent amount of homework. Just stay on top of it.
Karen and her TA are great! There are many opportunities to get your grade up: Go to the office hours (they're extra credit), do the homework, and practice! I have always been number-blind and math anxious and was able to finish with a B+. I was in her summer session (accelerated pace) and still was able to keep up. If I can do it, so can you :)
Karen teaches really well, in a way that even people that aren't very good at math can understand. The class itself is half online watching lectures at home and the in-person classes are spent doing assignments, this lets you ask questions and perfect what you're trying to do in the lessons. She is very nice and understanding.
Professor Marino is the absolute best teacher for math Ive taken here. Her class is set up for you to pass if you put the little bit of effort in. The tests are pulled from the study guides and she's always willing to help you understand. Show up to office hours for extra credit on exams. 11/10
Karen is such an amazing professor and gives soooo much extra credit. She designs her class so even if you fail every exam you can still pass by doing homework and coming to class. She drops your lowest exam and gives you a 2 class buffer, so you can skip if you really want to. If you just do your work and come to class you can easily get an A.
Prof Marino is the best math professor I have ever taken! There are worksheets and study guides due in class, you watch lecture videos outside of class and she gives extra credit opportunities! The tests are exactly like the study guides, and PLEASE attend your TA's office hours, you get extra credit if you go to them. The final is optional as well
I always struggled with math, but getting an A in Karen's calculus class has become surprisingly effortless. I memorize her study materials and successfully pass all exams. I was under impression that calculus is a challenging class, Karen's excellent teaching makes her class easier than college algebra.
This class is very straightforward. Success in this class is dependent on the study guide. The problems on the study guides are identical to those in the exams.
It was the first time she was using an inverse lecture structure (video lectures at home and homework during class) and it helped me learn Calculus easier than I expected. She truly cares if you pass and that you understand the chapters. I showed up to almost every class and by doing so never felt pressure or felt behind on any work.
karen was amazing. the lesson was taught through a video on canvas and we completed worksheets in class where she would go over some topics and answer any questions. her exams were super easy and always came right from the study guide. homework was kind of annoying but she often gave extra credit if you completed it with a high enough average.
Karen was an amazing professor! She did a flip classroom for our class so we did lecture notes at home and then a worksheet in the classroom which really benefitted me because I could ask her for help on specific questions.
One of the easiest courses I took at FGCU had little to do with the teaching method; rather, the exams were remarkably similar to the study guide.
Take this professor if you want to be less stressed during your semester. I honestly wouldn't have gotten an A without attending the Learning Assistant hours, which she adds 2 percent each time you go. (max 13-15% each test, max 105% on test). She's very kind. Her study guides are basically the test, but she changes the numbers around. Very easy.
Professor Marino was a very good teacher. Her notes for math weren't super long and was down to the point. I liked the way she explained things and gave short cuts if there were any. I didn't take the final because you can drop the lowest grade! The way she had MathLab set up is also super helpful. I definitely recommend her.
Professor Marino wants all of her students to pass and do their best. There are many opportunities for extra credit such as attending Learning Assistants office hours which are so helpful. The study guides they are literally the exam but with different numbers. I thought I would struggle with the flipped classroom aspect but ended up loving it.
Great professor and has a lot of extra credit opportunities just for attending office hours. Study guides are very similar to the test. Cares about the students and then understanding the material. It is very easy to pass this class!
Professor Marino is one of the better professors I've had while at FGCU, especially in regards to math. Lots of extra credit, lots of chances to learn the material and apply what you've learned before the test. As someone who has always gotten low grades in math, Prof Marino has time and time again been a great resource and instructor.
I am not good at math, but the way that everything was laid out helped me understand. It was a flipped classroom, meaning you took notes at home and practiced in class where she and her learning assistants walked around to help with the worksheets. If you come to every class she gives 5 extra credit points per week on your tests for being there.
Flipped class but has great videos with clear notes covering various examples (notes due before class). I took her class in summer so the class felt a bit rushed since we had to do all the classwork for various sections in less than two hours and submit it by the end of class (had 2 learning aids). Tests have study guides that are super helpful.
I thought she was very understanding, as long as you do the work the class is great!
Karen is such a great professor! I've never been good at math and have always had trouble understanding it, but this class made it easy for me to understand and do well. The way she explains everything is clear and easy to understand. If you put in some effort you will do well! Highly recommend!
This class was a flipped classroom which worried me at first, but I adjusted and ended up loving it. Definitely recommend going to the office hours even just to work on math homework and get the extra credit. Professor Marino is super understanding and flexible. She teaches so well & posts all the work that'll be happening for the week on Sunday!
This class was not hard at all! She provides great video lectures about each topic and shows you step by step how to use the calculator for the subjects. She is always providing extra credit and cares about her students learning! If you are struggling she has office hours and encourages students to come! She will try her best to help you!
Karen is a wonderful professor. She has a flipped classroom meaning you watch lecture videos and take notes prior to class, then do practice worksheets in class. I was hesitant if I would like this class structure, but it ended up being great. Tests are all super easy and multiple-choice. She also gives a ton of extra credit opportunities!
Professor Marino truly brought my confidence in math back. She's the sweetest person ever and I just loved her way of teaching so much. She gives you so many extra credit opportunities, she's always lifting everyone up before/after tests. Her teacher assistants are also amazing. I really recommend going to the TA's office hours, even just to do MML
Professor Marino makes this class a breeze! Engaging lectures, helpful study guides, and Unstuckstudy made test prep a breeze. Definitely take this course if you want an easy A.
she explains the work and math problems amazingly
Extra Credit is limited, but easily earned. Her Flipped Classroom style is quite difficult to get the hang of if you learn better in lectures though, so be aware of that.
A great professor. Her class is flipped, so you take notes at home and do the worksheets. It worked great for me because you get to use what you learned through trial and error with her help. I would retake this class in a heartbeat. It's a lot of studying and working through them on your own to understand, but there's a lot of help!
Professor Marino was the most caring and lovable professor I have ever had. I was nervous first going into this course but she made it super easy and understandable and was always ready to help if you need it. I didn't even have to take the final because she drops your lowest test score, and gave alot of extra credit. 100% recommend her for anyone.
lectures were easy, always available. best professor ever! drops one exam (final included) A LOT of extra credit. 20% off late hw and quizzes Study for a few hours for the exams and you'll get enough to keep an A
Very nice and kind professor. She is always available to help and seems to genuinely care about her students. I recommend taking her class for an easy math credit. Also, shoutout to her cats that sometimes make an appearance in her online lectures.
She gave a ton of extra credit opportunities but thats basically the only good thing. She does flipped classroom style and barely goes into depth at all when she posts lecture videos. She assigns a lot of graded notes and MyMathLab work weekly. The student TA's do most of the help and question answering. I would avoid taking Karen again if I could.
Professor Marino was amazing! As someone who struggles with algebra, I passed on my first try. She offers tons of extra credit, great study guides, and constant encouragement. Even in a fast 6-week summer course, it felt doable. Show up, study daily, do the homework—you'll succeed!
It is a flipped classroom meaning you take notes in your free time then do the work in class. She and her teaching assistants are incredibly nice and helpful.
Good teacher
Would take again, helped me get an A in the class!!!!
Karen is the best math teacher I've ever had. She's so kind, cares about all her students and wants everyone to pass. There is so much extra credit. It's a flipped classroom so you have to watch video lectures, but she makes it clear and they're never more than 30 mins. I was so worried about Algebra but she made it so easy to understand. Take her!
Great professor for math. Tshe does prelectures before class, and the worksheets in class, but they really help with understanding the material. She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities with her office hours and bonus question on the tests.
Karen is a really amazing professor. She truly cares about her students success. There is a lecture video every day before class and a worksheet in class but there is a lot of learning assistants in class to help answer any questions. 5 exams and an optional cumlative final, 1 test, 1 homework, 2 worksheets, and 2 notes are all dropped.
