Karen is a remarkable professor. She's very intelligent and passionate about her field. Yes, there is quite a bit of work outside her class, but it's all very relevant to helping you think critically. She's SO organized, and prepares you really well for the tests. Celtic Cultures was the class I had with Karen. She's really into the subject and can talk ad nauseam about it. She shows clips of films and gives handouts. You do have to read the books, although her lectures cover most of it. She uses PowerPoint for those. The final project was a poster, which was weird to me. Tests are easy if you take notes.

It works out to be a quiz or test a week. Each quiz is on one chapter while each test is three or four. There are times you have to write posts about an article or video, but they aren't that difficult if you take the time to view them. As long as you at least skim read you will pass this class. Lectures and the class time itself is not bad. However, she is a tough tough grader and takes a lot of things personally. She does not budge and is stubborn in everything. Grades are often unfair and if she thinks it doesn't meet her criteria she just gives it a 62.5% no matter what.

Came into this class with an open mind "yeah this cant be that bad" I was later shredded to pieces mainly from essay posts that were toughly graded as if it was meant to be some Shakespearean masterpiece. This Professor is awful when it comes to grading essays having unclear instructions and high standards, At least I don't get to see them.

She is a TOUGH grader with essays. Please do not take this course if you do not have a whole day where you can go over ever little detail to maybe get a passing grade on your essays. If you do not go to her office hours she will not help you with anything because you're not going the extra mile for her class.
