Karen is the best professor that I have ever have. Dispite the fact that sometimes she make some careless mistakes on class, she is ALWAYS willing to help. She is a very nice teacher. I would recommend her for any math classes.
Ms. Miflin is the best math professors i have ever had, very enthusiastic, charming, funny, organized, knows her math in and out! SHe makes calculus doable and even interesting. tests are somewhat challenging, but you learn a TON, helped me tons inmath205
She rules. She is so helpful.
Great teacher! Great methods and strategies of teaching. Explains material clean and logical. The best Math Professor I ever had!!
Karen is a super great teacher. I thought there was no way to get through calculus but she made it interesting and applicaple to the real life. The door to her office is always open for help or just to chat. If you ever need some help with math take her.
She is an amazing teacher. If you come to class, take notes and do the homework, the tests are easy.
Excellent math teacher I also have a hard time in math but I understood her methods. I used the book a lot though. She was very nice and understanding.
Ms. Karen is the best math teacher i ever had and also be the friendliest instructor that i've ever known since i started college. She got a cute kinna funny way of teaching. I dont know how much woudld be enough to tell my appreciation to her.
What?? This is the worst math teacher I have had at palomar. She is very nice, and I am getting an A, only because I spend two hours a day teaching myself out of the book. She is scattered and unclear. Her tests are okay.
The best math teacher!!! She clearly explains everything and is soooo willing to help you if you have any questions. If you go to class, take notes, and do the homework, you should have no trouble getting an A+. The test questions are taken straight from the homework. Very sweet and friendly too.
She is very nice and will go to any extent to help a student, but I just couldn't understand her way of teaching. I went to the math lab and even went to her for extra help, but I still failed.
you have to be ready to work. the test come straight from the book and the notes. karen is very helpful and she wants you to do good in her class, so you can pass her class
She is the sweetest math teacher! If you do the homework, go to class and take notes, the tests will be soooo easy. I will take her again.
Who cares if she is nice, she can't teach. She talked about whatever she wanted, and never did she explain how to do the work. I don't want a nice teacher, I want a good teacher. She is the worst teacher I have had at Palomar.
She is a very good teacher, I am horrible at math, but did well in this class. She is willing to help you whenever you need it. I definitely recommend taking this class.
She is a great teacher. And very helpfull. I will defentaly take her again.
she sucks, I dont know what people are thinking, but she sucks.Who cares if she is nice, when she cant teach. Some people think she is the best, but i think shes the best @ nothing
She will help you when you need the help. She may be a little boring in class but she goes over everything very clearly. Here test are very strait foward and everything she writes on the review is on the test except with different number which makes it easy to study!
Average teacher, 4.5 outta 10 scale. If something else fits in schedule, U might be better off taking that class.Very knowledgable in algebra of calculus, but not very clear in lectures. U'll wonder what the hell she talked about in class. Lectures are scattered and disjointed. Not very clear. Tests OK, willing to help, Good 1 on 1, bad lectures.
She is a very nice, very helpful prof. Sometimes she doesnt explain things very well in class, but if you go to her for office hours, she is very willing to help. I will say this though, out of 63 units, I have only gotten one B (the rest were A's), and I got it in her class.
this teacher was great. she was helpful with all questions and went over the homework. you get to use a notecard on the tests.
This is a hard class. Expect to put in at least 5-10 hours of homework per week. But Karen is very helpful and doesn't try to trick you on the test questions. She covers alot of information in a short period of time, so expect to either: teach yourself what you don't understand, go to the math center for help, or visit her during office hours.
this is the best teacher for math. the only way someone would not like her is if they did not listen in class and not attend. people who did not like obviously just mad they got a bad grade.
NICE LADY BUT SHE CANNOT TEACH.REVIEWS FOR THE TEST HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TEST NO EXTRA CREDIT LOTS OF QUIZES ON THE HOME WORK. SHE WILL HELP YOU OUT IF YOU ASK. I YOU CANNOT TEACH YOURSELF MATH DONT TAKE HER
Overall, a very good professor I would say. Her tests are easy to study for since they are the same material on her reviews, except different numbers. She actually drops your lowest test grade as well. She definetly knows her stuff, and is willing to help out whenever asked.
i'll make it short she sucks big time on one test two girls started crying that is how hard she is it was a 50 min class but tests toke about 2 hours thats a average. she had something up her but this semester all her other ratings are good but this class this semester i think she though student were taking advantage of her so she brought the pain.
I love Karen! She's so awesome... She seems to really care about having her students learn and understand. To her a math class is more than a grade, it's a subject; a subject that she cares very much about. I would definitely suggest taking her class!
i've never had a good foundation when it came to math so i had to make certain that i got a good teacher..which Karen definitely is! She's the ONLY math teacher that i've ever had who can teach the same thing many different ways (ensuring that you understand it) and is very helpful when it comes to questions. great teacher!
Awesome teacher, I took her for college algebra in an 8 week format, thats 4 hours a night, twice a week. She made it interesting and was extremely helpful if you are not clear on anything. Don't ever expect to get out early though. Study guides ARE just like the tests. Excellent teacher, I wish I could have her for all of my math classes.
This class is tough! Attendance is a must and the tests are hard but she is a good teacher. Just study.
She really really knows how to teach. She was always on time, extremely helpful, had a great attitude, and was ready to teach. She has a lot of pop quizzes which are really just for your benefit. I loved this class. Classes were only 50 minutes long but she tried best she could to help people that couldn't get it.
She's not too hard, not to easy, but right in between. H.w. was like any other math class, and test were roughly the same as the reviews.Only thing I would say she needs help with is focusing on communication to individual students. Not just the class as a whole.I wont take her again, only because i do better with teachers that i can be friends with.
Nice lady but her teaching style just did not work for me. She goes way too fast as she explains and goes over so much material in a day. The book is not even helpful, you can only rely on her notes. The material is way too hard but she makes it even more.
As every political person says on this thing, "nice lady," but marginally good as a teacher. Her reviews are ok, but you need to go about 5 more steps beyond the review to prepare for the tests. She is helpful, although if it didn't make since from her in class, slowing it down in the same style is sort of pointless. Its a flip of the coin.
She was a good teacher, but just went over things really quickly. So if you are a slow learner consider taking some one else. Other than that use her reviews to study for the tests, they are really similar.
The best math teacher at palomar. She gives the awesome practice that really explains all the topic she will teach very well, You should get an A as long as you do the homework.
Wonderful teacher, her lectures are really clear, a little too fast but she will go back and repeat steps if someone asks her. Homework is worth credit and she definitely gives a lot of it (which is natural for a math class). I hope she will teach calc 2 and 3 in the future. One of the better math professors at palomar.
great teacher. she goes through everything pretty fast but will clarify it if u still dnt get it. reviews r just like the test. hw every night u dnt get specific hw credit instead u have open note 1 problem hw quizes. they really help out ur grade. TAKE HER! awesome lady, sorta dorky personality.
Amazing teacher! She's SO nice and loves to teach! If you have a conflict or you just don't want to be there, and you get up and leave, she doesn't mind as long as you turn in your homework. She help you with anything you ask her about. She's just the awesome!
Karen is such an amazing teacher. Attendance is not mandatory although I would highly recommend attending. Her lectures are clear and she is very helpful, she wants all of her students to understand. Take her :)
Wow really hot teacher!!! Good teaching method easy to understand. Took her for summer last year 5 test and a final drops lowest test. Gives HW quiz every day be prepared to study you but off
She was a pretty good teacher. Go to her lecture, if you understand something she will make sure you do. DO ALL THE HW its worth points and she also has a review before every test that is pretty helpfull. tests are fair so if you know your stuff you will pass. Drops lowest test score!
The class would have been better if we had more than 50min per class. It seemed like there was no time to teach. We basically covered practice problems and any questions from the previous night's homework. She was a really nice teacher all the same and will help you if you're struggling. Don't take unless you already know your stuff.
Crystal Clear! I want to take her again but she is not teaching calculus 3! Very easy to talk to and makes math fun and easy to understand. Wish she would teach Deferential Equations or Linear Algebra instead of wasting her time teaching stupid algebra classes. Take her if you want to be successful in math
This class was super easy as far as subject material goes, the tests were not hard at all. Karen is really nice as well, definitely helpful/ soft spoken. I took the three hour block, which I would advise against because it gets boring really quick.
Supper nice teacher!! really cares about her students! :) i def. recommend her if you don't understand math that well!!
she is super nice, and tests are easy, make sure you do the hw to understand the test. and gives a lot of homework. She is always willing to help but i fall asleep in the first 20 minutes.
This teacher is really helpful and easy to understand but go to EVERY class or it gets confusing because she moves really fast! I actually enjoyed this math class.
Awesome teacher!! I'm not a big fan of math, but she made it easily approachable. She is very helpful and super nice. She gives you many opportunities to pass. Just do the study guides and the hw so you can pass the quizzes which are taken from hw. Definitely take her if you can!
Karen is super helpful with any questions and stuff you don't understand. She doesn't mind at all taking extra time for you to get something. She personally walked me over to the Math Center to help me get a calculator. Just overall a great teacher! If you don't get math, take her class!! Also, don't miss class...it sucks!!
The material is difficult, not the teacher. Need to attend everyday and DO the homework. Write yourself notes on the homework. Calculus for dummies book does simplify some of the concepts. The final comes from the last two tests. Study hard and you can get the A.
She was really friendly and approachable, but sometimes rushed the material. Also her study guides for the exams didn't always show us everything we should be studying, even though she said it did. Although she didn't require attendance, she did "HW Quizzes" for points most classes.
Took her summer class. If you can get over her appearance then she is probably one of the best math teachers at Palomar. Her pace was average, and she taught straight out of the book. However her teaching style was extremely effective and her tests were very fair. She makes use of blackboard well by giving test reviews. I highly recommend her.
I took MATH 15 (fast track) with this professor, she is a very nice lady and she tries her best to help students that are struggling. I suggest to those going into fast track to attend each class because you will learn 4 sections a day. Keep up with your homework and do well on the midterms. The midterms were worth more than the final.
Overall Prof Mifflin is a good professor with a good personality. But if you take a higher level math class, it is a lot easier to take it in a regular semester. College algebra requires a lot of homework, and during the summer, it is brutal. But if you go fast track, Prof Mifflin is one of the best.
Prof. Karen Mifflin is amazing. I love her class. She is super nice and patient. She is always willing to help her students to understand the lecture. I took her Math 110 class and got an A very easily. I would recommend her class to all student that i know.
Great teacher. The Trig is stuck in my head and prepared me for Calculus. Recommend!!
material was really hard for me. she is a really nice lady and is always willing to help, but she moved way too fast for my liking. also, she would do a problem and explain it once, and then never explain the steps again and expects you to remember. that really bothered me
An extremely helpful math professor! Her lectures make sense and she goes over what will be on her tests so you can be prepared! Make sure you do the homework; although it seems like a lot of busy work, all the practice nearly guarantees a passing grade on the tests. She also is very patient on answering/explaining questions more than once.
Insane makes you do between 50 to 300 problems a night with an increase next semester to 1/2 of a chapter per night.
Very hard, 300 problems a night and be prepared for doing multiple chapters a day. Then have to remember it all. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
She is an okay teacher, sucks at explaining problems. if your already good in math then take her but if not look else where
i loved Mrs. Mifflin ! Super nice, and very helpful!!! RECOMMEND HER!!
This class was pretty good, she was a good teacher. Just pay attention in class and try to understand. I didn't take notes,it was super easy to understand when I wasn't. Tests are pretty easy, you review them. Final is easy too. Aced her class.
She is amazing, i hate math so much its like a second language to me but she was very helpful and the tests are exactly like the study guide. i still went to tutoring pretty often though.
She is a very good professor.
Other than prealgebra,I have never had any exposure to Algebra. I am also not very strong in mathematics. Professor Mifflin has such a way of teaching that allows you to understand the concepts of this foreign language. Her methods also helped to build my confidence for future math learning.
I am not very good at math but Mifflin has a great way of teaching that really makes you understand. She is very patient and answers all your questions. Do the homework and come to class and you will get an A. Highly recommend taking her.
She is a fair grader and the Final replaces the lowest grade of the first 4 tests you take. Sometimes she can get a little bit rushed and start explaining things very fast, only because she has teached this class many times.
She is a very nice teacher, however unless you already understand math pretty well i do not recommend taking her. She goes over problems too fast and talks too fast as well. I am having to teach myself the math by going online and tutoring, i feel that there is no point in going to her class because i leave knowing nothing even though i take notes.
Very good professor. She does tend to go fast at times but you can ask her to slow down and she will. She provides test reviews and step by step answers to the test reviews. Homework was fair. Not to much but enough for you to get the hang of it. Highly recommend her.
I think she funny. But, she does teach very fast. Unless you know what you're doing don't take her. She gives you no time to write down the problem. And by the time you do, she's nearly done and you've missed his to do it.
PROF. Mifflin is a master in math. She explains the concept clearly and then moves on. The one thing I noticed about her teaching way is that when she writes an example problem, she doesn't let us work on it first (she pretty much does it for us), so it takes away from practicing the concept. But that's what the homework is for, right? :-D
I really do not like her class. She is really nice and she knows her stuff but she just goes way too fast. The highest grade in the class is a C. Unless you are really good at math I do not recommend her. I am decent at math and have never gotten anything lower than a B and I currently have a D. Test are hard to pass, homework isn't worth anything.
I really enjoyed learning College Algrebra from Professor Mifflin. She made the material much simpler than other math teachers I have had in the past. She does move fairly fast so it's hard to keep up with her during lecture sometimes but it's because there is a lot of stuff to understand. She uses WebAssign for hw so its mandatory.
I took her 6-week course. Gives many tests with less material, if that's your style, you're in luck. Her study guides are okay; some questions on tests aren't on the study guide. Her lectures aren't really that good. Grading criteria is fair (89.5% A, 79.5% B, etc). Gives extra credit. You can replace your lowest test score. Overall, decent.
She is a nice lady but isn't that great of a professor. Her lectures are okay but could improve drastically. You'll learn the basics but nothing more. Her biggest flaw is her study guides. I cannot stress how useless they are; about 13 of the questions on the exams aren't on the guide. NO EXAGGERATION! If there are other options, I would avoid her
You can get a better math teacher. Study guide does not help you with the tests. Talks way to fast during the lecture. She starts the next chapter before you take the test of the previous (gives a test every chapter). She skips steps in examples. Grades on tests and quizzes only. Hard subject matter already, she makes it harder than it already is.
Do not take this class for math 60. this was the worst math teacher in my entire life.
Do not take this class in math 60. when i study on the study guide for which test is going to be on the same math questions. but, than i saw the test that was totally different for each chapter of the exam. I failed this class in math 60 so, don't take her.
Do not take this class in math 60 when I ask her a question for which part of the math questions will be on the final exam and she said that she will not put that math question on the final exam. When I study the study guide and the exam was totally different and the study guide was not helpful at all. Do not take this class in Math 60.
Solid math teacher, just go to class and do the homework and study guides and you will do well.
Professor Mifflin could be a really good professor. However, she does not take the time to try to gauge a student's learning style. She will meet with you, but she runs through explanations and class lectures at a rapid pace. There were eight tests in 16 weeks. The tests were complex and she did not offer assistance with review.
Really nice lady. Will work to explain things if you go see her; however she's extremely disorganized in her lecture and a tad boring, making it hard to follow her in addition to paying attention. Study Guides are generally true to her tests. Online Homework. Very Friendly and likable though.
I've taken Mifflin twice so I'm use to her style which is fast paced. I'd say she is the best math professor at Palomar if you want to take Calc. Calculus is not easy so the HW and tests can be difficult. You need to show up to class! Also if you can take it with a friend, so you can study outside of class. Also go to her office hours, they help :)
It was hard for me to read her notes because my English wasn't too good, but I think I got 97% or 98% on the class, and more than 100% on some tests due to extra credit. The class was easy; homework was online and tests were very similar to the study guides. Also, if you don't understand something from the homework, she explains you patiently
Calculus is hard in general. Professor Mifflin would listen to her students when we asked her to slow down the lessons even if it pushed the entire schedule back. She is always willing to help outside of class in person or through email. Some of the tests were extremely difficult and not like the study guide. The amount of online HW is massive!
mrs mifflin was a vey nice lady, shes quiet if the class is quiet but she extremely friendly and she kind of rambles on but great professor over all and she is usually in the tlc shortly before class starts in Escondido. i just slacked off a bit but make sure you do the hmwk and shell drop the lowest grade!
Mifflin is a respectable teacher. She lectures everything that will be on the homework. She uses Webassign and it's about $90 and there's no way of dodging that. She lets you use your laptops and cellphones so she's very lenient. Her tests are after every section of webassign and it's easy as long as you do the study guide. Honestly, take her class
She does not explain things well. If you want to do well in the class get outside help.
She is a good person but she doesnt explain things well and the online homework seems to do nothing for your grade. When showing you examples she does them at her pace and while copying it down you cant catch up and next thing you know shes done with the problem. I wouldnt recommend taking her if you have trouble with math and need more help.
Professor Mifflin is a warm hearted women. She lectures over everything you need to know for tests and assigns homework online (though the hw on there can be tedious). Showing up to class is essential for any math class otherwise you fall behind. If you don't understand a concept be sure to ask for help... Great choice for Math 110 :)
Great teacher ,really makes sure her class understands the work. Does not make you feel dumb about asking questions.
If your someone like me that isnt the greatest at math and is only taking it for your major be mentally prepared. Dont waist time on trying to write all notes, she posts them on canvas. I received better help from the math center, so definitely got there if youre struggling. Theres homework & some concept checks to help cushion your grade.
Ever wanted a good professor who takes the time to explain things and makes sure that the class understands whats going on as the professor is going along with the lecture? Yeah same here, and this professor definitely wasn't that. She will go on and on and not take the time to break down wtf is going on or why. Hard pass. listen to me. DONT DO IT
If math is not your strong point I suggest you avoid this professor! She goes threw the lectures super fast you basically have to teach yourself. She is a nice lady but the class has no idea whats going on.
I'm not good at math but this was a relatively easy class. It's mostly self taught, but there are lectures. She offered extra credit towards the end. There's usually 4 homework sets to do every 2-3 weeks. It's a totally manageable work load. We used WebAssign, which has really helpful videos on how to do the problems as well as optional quizzes.
Pretty easy class, lots of time to do the homework although there is a lot due every other week or so. There are about 5 tests before the final which is accumulative. Mostly self taught class, I recommend this prof.
Overall this professor is really nice. She helps you with the homework if you dont understand it. The tests are kind of hard, but I am terrible at math. If you have the right study materials you should be able to pass the class.
One of the best professors ever. Math has always come easy to me but she is awesome at her job and helps you to actually understand the material rather than barely getting it. The tests were a lot like our homework which made it easy and she was very helpful through WebAssign. Seriously take this professor if you can!
If you already understand the concept she's teaching, you'll be fine. If not, then you'll need to use the videos on the homework because she doesn't really explain everything she does. I wasn't a fan of her lecture videos, however, if you have questions, she is super fast to respond. She always responded to me while I was doing the homework
I have never wanted to throw myself off a cliff more than when I was doing homework for this professor. Pretty sure it was only because it was all online so if you took her in person probably fine. However, she gives you quite a bit of work each week and super frustrating because sometimes WebAssign wouldn't like your answer even if it was right
Good. No problems.
she is a great teacher, however, her teaching style may be hard for those who haven't taken math in a while! she's extremely caring and even offers help before, in between, and after class! she goes over more than 3 topics per class which is challenging! you also have to pay in order to do the homework, and midterm. extra credit is given
Homework is due every two weeks along with a test, no surprise quizzes or anything like that. Responds quickly to emails. Mostly self-taught course, but tons of chances to get problems correct on homework. Tests were easy as long as you studied. Decent amount of homework, but manageable.
She is a very generous grader and really cares about her students. She moves fairly quick in lectures but is more than happy to help students catch up and has very productive office hours. She responds quickly to emails about homework and is very supportive. She is very approachable, offers extra credit on tests, and you can always get 100% on HW.
Methodical approach to her lectures. Presents material in a way that students understand, making mathmatical concepts easy to retain. Demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm during her lectures. Truly cares about student learning. Approachable and accessable outside scheduled class meetings. I highly recommend taking her classes. Outstanding professor!
She talks REALLY fast during lectures. It can be really hard to keep up when taking notes because she talks so fast. I never came out of any of her lectures understanding what we had talked about. She is a really easy grader though. She's really generous giving points on tests.
It was a pretty good class. There was a lot of homework, but my class was an 8-week so it was double-paced. I would recommend this professor, she responds to emails quickly and concepts aren't too hard.
One of the nicest teachers I've had. Super nice lady and never brings the vibe down. You definitely get out what you put into this class. All you need to do is invest yourself a little and you'll pass the class (just show up and pay attention to the lectures). I did all the HW's and scored well, but didn't do great on exams and I still passed:)
Talks really fast and doesn't slow down to help with problems, does stuff in her head without saying how. Her canvas grades were wrong the whole semester without telling us, dropped everyones grade down by 15% ish and she didn't care about it. Makes this course a LOT more work than it needs to be.
I like her as a person, but as a professor, she was way too fast for me to even process what she was doing. She doesn't really explain what she is writing sometimes and it's hard to understand when she does things in her head. She does post the notes on canvas though which is good. There was so much homework too and responded fast to questions.
Class was supposed to have 5 tutors in class to help with all the students but we only got 1-2 (3 on the rare occasion). She teaches well on most topics but rarely gave us practice problems to do in class by ourselves (she did them for us). No quizzes but hw makes up for that. Exams are tough.
Taking Prof. Mifflin's class after experiencing Annette Squire's class is what I imagine like taking a nice, lukewarm shower after serving a nightmare shift at the local Wendy's. Mifflin actually teaches (as opposed to Squires). Only real drawback is a mandatory $120 subscription service you have to buy to submit the online coursework.
This course was so incredibly fast paced. The professor rarely explained where or why she was plugging things in or changing equations. You are essentially on your own in learning the material, there is no in class practice work to receive feedback. Exams are difficult. Homework and Exams both contain materials only briefly touched on in class.
I feel pretty bad writing this negative review so let me say: as a person, she is amazing At her core I have no doubt she enjoys teaching and wants to help her students learn. But this this is one of the worst learning experiences I've ever had. She blasts through lectures while explaining very little. You are kind of on your own to actually learn.
Pros: lenient grader, study guides are very similar to tests, very nice lady Cons: teaching, have to pay $120 for homework This professor goes wayyy too fast when explaining topics. You do not do any practice problems in class, instead she does them for you at a pace where you cant comprehend what shes doing. Need to put in effort outside of class.
Professor Mifflin's MATH110 class has a solid self-study structure, with helpful videos and WebAssign resources. Though challenging, the manageable workload and her responsiveness make it doable. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for my study prep.
Professor Mifflin is genuinely so caring, sweet, and accessible; I really liked her. However, she teaches so fast it is difficult to comprehend what she is doing. I taught myself most of the the material outside of class. Thankfully, the material is fairly simple, if you took three years of high school math most of it should be familiar.
Professor Mifflin was one of the best professors ever! Unfortunately, she's retiring but I just wanted to leave a good review in case she ever decides to teach again. Clac is a hard class but her lectures were very clear and she will slow down and explain things if you ask. Also make time for hw. I hope I get more teachers like her in the future!
