she encourages questions in class. She makes sure everyone knows the material. Great professor for an intro bio course.
She really cared about us understanding BIO. Study hard and don't slack. As a student, I took advantage of all her resources and am getting A's and B's on the tests. Highly Recommend for Bio 1050 and Bio 1510 because she teaches fairly well and is not as hard hitting as Dr. Turchyn (another good professor who is perfect for upper level BIO)
She is a great professor. One thing I recommend is to read the slides, redo quizzes, and do learning objectives. They are key to success. Take it from a student, if you do bad it is your own doing, not dr. myhrs. Nobody wants lazy doctors or pharmacists. If you can't handle this class then you have no business being in the medical field
Helpful and caring. Come to class. It really helps. It helped me do well as a student.
Study hard and you will be fine. Learning objectives are very helpful
she is a excellent professor and her exams are based off the lectures so relisten to them ! I would re watch her lectures and recognize all the questions.
Great professor. Make sure to study ahead of time. Do so by studying your learning objectives, retake your quizzes, and make sure to review the slides. You will do well if you put the work in. Also, your lowest exam score is dropped. Dr. Myhr is very good and makes the class a bit interesting.
Not bad. But you gotta study in order to do well. DON'T STUDY THE DAY BEFORE!
Phenomenal professor. I have never had a class in which the professor truly cares about her students this much. She very clearly puts an incredible amount of effort, and really wants her students to learn and be prepared to pursue science. She is very caring, flexible, and helpful. I wish she taught more classes.
She makes you work hard. At first I hated the class because the amount of work. Then when I put the work in it all came easy because the clicker q's, homework, SI sessions HELP TREMENDOUSLY. First 2 tests I didn't do so well, then I started getting A's. What I did was rewatch lectures and write EVERYTHING she says down and do the study guides A
Dr. Myhr makes you work for an A. She is a great professor but is tough. There is homework, clickers, and quizzes. In order to pass this class, I recommend students go to class to get a general idea of what is going on and then re-watching lectures and writing down explicit, concrete notes. MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING SHE SAYS!
I really liked this class. It is a writing intensive so between lab and lecture there was a lot of reading scientific articles and writing. Dr. Myhr was a great professor. She is fair and leaves no surprises for exams. Hardly lectures-you mostly work in teams to understand material yourself and then she explains. Good class!
Not an easy A. There's homework due before every lecture, and she makes you work in groups for roughly 10 minutes a lecture. Her tests are very specific and difficult. (50-60% was the average grade). However, she strongly wants her students to succeed so she had our final exam replace all of our previous exams. Overall, very kind and helpful.
I have never had a fair professor like Dr. Myhr at Wayne State. She really looks out for you and gives you a lot of advice for success. Those hating on her are lazy and don't study at all. Take it from a freshman. I had her for two semesters Bio 1050 and Bio 1510 and have done great. Study her slides and go to office hours for help.
She's a great teacher. Its because of her that I am more motivated to continue my pre-med path
She is a great professor. Worth taking. She will make you work and study hard. If you can survive in her class, then you will survive in later bio courses.
She is very fair. Study slides, do homework, go to class, and STUDY! Do all that and you are on your way to an A
A good prof, teaches the material well but its not easy so you have to put in work. She doesn't curve or give extra credit. Quizzes and homework are helpful but can be super time consuming and are barely worth anything to your final grade.
She is no NO means an easy instructor! However, she is fair in her grading and will happily explain why you got the grade that you did. No extra credit but will curve only when the entire class messes up on a big portion of the exam, so she does care about the student's grades. You will have to work very hard to earn an A, but it is possible!!!
She's tough because she really makes you work for an A. Not an inviting person at all. Her exams are fair and you will rarely get points back on an exam. If you attend class and do the homework, you should do well.
Dr. Myhr is doable. She is not impossible. Gradual studying should get you to an A
Professor Myhr's slides are easy to understand and she explains more in depth. Her BIO 1510 consists of around 10 questions before each lecture online (unlimited attempts), a discussion board will be up to help each other. 4 exams and of course the Final exam. 5 in total. Her exams are fair ONLY if you study A LOT (an hour a day is fine)
She is probably the best Bio professor I've had. She is very tough, but if you put in the effort you will receive an A. Go to office hours, go to class, study daily, you should be fine. I loved her.
Im honestly a lazy student, and i have to say shes SO EASY. She reviews the slides in class, her tests are based off of those slides and what she talks about. She gives study guides that are like a copy of the exams but different wording. She curves exams, she may seem a little tough but shes a sweet heart and she cares about her students ALOT.
you have to be good at bio. shes nice and has office hours that help. you just have to be good at taking conceptual exams. study before and after class. hard
She really nice. She loves groups and doing group activities, Attendances is mandatory. Her test are hard. Half of the things on the test isn't what she has tough in lecture. She is available during offices hours and she is helpful. If you want to pass her class take good notes study everyday for a least 2 hours and use the book and slides.
Have to attend class for clicker points. Have to go to group discussions. Some of the stuff on exams are too specific and 30 question exams so if you get a couple questions wrong it can affect your grade. Hard to get an A. many struggled in class but its becuz they don't study. you have to be in class so she explains slides.
Hard to keep up, because of the huge lecture. Hard grader, and hard exams. Be ready to read a lot and prepare for weeks in advance before an exam. Peer mentors were soo helpful!
Karen is a great professor for this class, the entire class is based off of her lectures and she posts them all online so you can relisten to them. The book is not needed for this class at all as she literally explains EVERYTHING in her lectures so as long as you relisten to lectures you will be golden. She also gives bonuses for some exams.
She is a great lecturer. Posts the powerpoints and online homework with 2 tries. The grading is very clear and gives you many options to get full points on homework, attendance, and group activities. Her exams on the other hand are difficult and are almost trick questions. The exams are not easy and makes sure you know the material. No curves.
She is a great professor! She literally gives so many extra credit options so you can pass her class. She is a great person and she sincerely does care about her students. Her class is A LOT of studying, but isn't every class like that? I really recommend her. All the bad comments are from people who barely study, or just expect an easy A.
Good teacher. Cares about her students getting good grades but makes sure you work for it. Just take the time to learn the material and you will do fine.
Dr. Myher is a great teacher and overall really wants you to get the material will provide additional material so everyone in the lecture understands it. Pay attention to the lecture thoroughly you will HEAR and SEE some exam questions ANSWERS, look over the lecture after class WRITE EVERY SINGLE THING DOWN. I can not stress this enough. STUDY!!
Highly recommend this professor for this course. Attendance of lecture is key for any questions you might have. The homework really seals your understanding too, like it 's not busy work. I really think this course is an easy A if you work for it. You have a lot of room to boost/maintain your grade should you miss a lecture or assignment also.
This class was too much for me as a person. I felt that overall your test is what made or broke you. I wouldn't take this professor again personally. She was nice as a person, but the teaching was rough.
I felt that Dr. myhr was a great Bio teacher. All of the material was clear and there is so many resources that she provides you with if you aren't understanding so well, throughout the class she made many improvises to help the students get there grades up. Definitely reading the assigned chapters before lecture helps a lot and coming to lecture.
Dr Myhr is a brilliant professor, she knows what she's talking about. You will have a good grade if you pay attention and study and she provides all the resources for you to pass. Also don't waste your money on buying the book, you can do well without it.
I have taken Dr. Myhr for Bio 1050, Bio 1510, and Bio 3200. She is my favorite professor because she doesn't make you memorize. I suck at memorizing and a lot of biology classes here are straight memorization. She tests you on critical thinking and not memorize a bunch of useless facts. Re-listen to lectures and go to her office hours.
She is my favorite professor. Doesn't make you memorize. I love that she helps you critically think through problems and not regurgitate the information back. Lectures are awesome and my peer mentor was fantastic.
She is awesome. Does not make you memorize. The peer mentors are the reason why I got an A. Class is actually interesting. Best general education course I have taken. I love her teaching.
Put in the effort and you will do fine in this course. Awesome professor, she really cares about students.
Honestly one of the best professors. She is extremely nice and wants you to succeed. She is the easiest and best bio teacher at wayne state - PLAINE AND SIMPLE. If you need a bio class and she is teaching it, take it. You'll thank me later.
The lab portion consists of a lot of writing & one experiment you design with a group. A major chunk of the lecture's exams include experimental design & data interpretation, as well as short answer, fill in the blanks & multiple choice. It wasn't the hardest bio class I took but definitely not a blow off class. We read sci papers & disc. in class.
This class was hard and the grades are based on clicker points, lab, online homework/quizzes, and 4 exams. The lowest exam grade was dropped. The exams were EXTREMELY hard and difficult to pass without memorizing the lecture slides as well as looking up information or watching videos outside of class. I had to rewatch lectures through echocenter
I love this professor. She doesn't make you memorize. It was critical thinking. I love critical thinking. I want to have skills useful for the job market and memorizing is not going to land me a job. She was awesome. She made biology fun. Also the peer mentors helped so much. I only did good because of them.
She was really good. Emphasis on critical thinking and not memorizing a bunch of facts. Love that she made me think. This will help me when I am in medical school diagnosing patients.
This class seriously helped me prepare for the mcat. She explained it in a way where you think about what is happening and not memorizing useless facts.
Dr. Myhr really cares about her students and supplies them with many resources to succeed. She makes you work for your grade by actually understanding the material & not just memorizing it. You will do so much better in the course because everything builds on top of each other & if you know your material well it will be easier. PEER MENTORS R GREAT
Most generous professor. Really cares about your success in the class and wants you to ask questions and understand the material. She provides a lot of resources to succeed which you should definitely take advantage of. Negative comments most likely from freshmen who do not know how to study for college classes. Wish she taught all bio courses.
The homework the night before is what we learned in the lecture the next day. She does not clarify on any topics, jumps around from topic to topic in 30 seconds. What I can say is if you rewatch echolectures/watch bioflix, it REALLY helps. Knowing the basics is key, but it's mostly critical thinking.
yes, she okay.
She really cares, if you are struggling go to her office hours. Trust me she will help you try to understand and if she isn't much help go to your peer mentor!! I personally would choose Bryn as your peer mentor, she's smart (like really smart and breaks down the material to actually make sense) , quick to answer emails and she honestly cares!
Tests are easy if you study.
honestly I hated the way she teaches. nothing ties together and you have to patch up the holes she left on your own. I would really avoid her if you can. Everyone seems to like her but I don't see the hype at all. She's really vague and you have to teach yourself for the homework. the book helps tremendously and so does your peer mentor!!!
Great professor! I love how Dr. Myhr has organized her class, she provides a lot of resources to make her class easy. I think that the peer mentors are the most helpful. At first I did very poorly but I went from a F to a B just by going to the stem commons after every lecture for clarification. Take this class!
Dr. Myhr was honestly a great professor. The test aren't hard as long as you study the lecture and homework. She's very clear on what she expects of you and has clear lectures. Peer mentors were also a great help! If you can get Tyler then you won't regret it. She knows the material well.
Karen Myhr is by far the best professor that I have had. She is very nice when talking to her outside of class and she is a great teacher. Going to class is a must, but missing a few won't kill you.
she is a very nice professor who knows the material really well, however her exams seem to easy but very confusing. Attendance is important for clicker questions. she provides peer mentors to help the students. The class wasnt bad but it was so much studying and homework. Dont buy the textbook because you will never use it
Dr. Myhr is a great professor. I liked her class and her exams were exactly from her lectures so if you attend every class it is pretty easy. She spends a lot of time for each unit which is helpful. I liked her class overall.
At first glance, you might be saying, "well, it's an intro class". Don't let that fool you. This is a very intense class. I am an A-B student. i got a C in the end. I was forced to go to study groups, which did absolutely nothing. My other two classes were sad to say secondary to this and my major is Digital Art. Good Luck.
If you pay attention you'll be fine, she cares and wants her students to do well. Kinda funny sometimes too. ALWAYS DO THE PRACTICE TESTS (like over and over again, sometimes theres the exact same questions)
Took this as my first bio class and she was a pretty good teacher. Was a bit unsure of what to expect, but looking back if you study more than 3 days before for your exams and take advantage of her study tools you will do well. She seems very passionate and wants you to do well. Mainly lecture based class, but looks to the book as a second refernce
Taking Bio 1510 is NOT by any means easy to get by, but Dr. Myhr has taught me how to really work for a good grade. She is very clear in lecture, and truly cares about her students and wants us to do well. I really like how there is homework and iclicker points, so our final grade isn't just based on test scores. 1510 is hard, but not impossible
She is an amazing teacher. She is very clear about what you are learning and more than happy to go back and explain again until you understand. I never needed to use the book, as long as you pay attention in the lecture she says everything you need to know. The only thing to watch out for is the details in the test questions, read VERY CAREFULLY.
Great professor. The class is not easy, but she does everything she can to help her students.
Dr. Myhr was a great person overall, but when it came to teaching she did not do a great job. This is one of those classes that requires you to get a tutor to do what Karen does not do, which is explain things in a way in which EVERYONE can understand. I would highly consider finding another teacher if you must take BIO 1510. Lab was also hard.
Biology is one of those subjects that everyone learns differently. That being said, I just did not understand the way Dr. Myhr taught this class at all. She's very vague and talks almost in an abstract way. When she knows that we don't understand the material, she'll just continue or get irritated instead of teaching it better or clarifying.
you wont be able to get good grades if you dont have old exams. Make sure you have a good lab instructor because it can make or break your grade. She is a good professor and is very smart but you have to do a lot of work and A LOT of studying.
Dr. Myhr was absolutely terrible when it came to teaching. She taught biology as if everyone had plenty of background in the subject, which is discouraging. Will not be taking a class with her again. She is available outside of class but that does not matter if you dont understand. The lab is also tougher than it should be.
She just posted the final grades and unfortunately I did not pass. All of the hard work I put in just went down the drain. Karen is nice but her style of teaching does not work for everyone. Grades are based on homework quizzes, 3 exams, 1 final, clicker points, and your lab grade. Take someone else in order to save your grade and GPA.
Karen is a really nice person, but honestly her class is difficult. You have to work for your grade. Make sure you work hard, and always study for the exams. MAINLY THE REVIEWS, AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES. honestly, this was my second time taking her and the first time I took her I got a B, in BIO 1050. In BIO 1510, I ended with a C+.
Professor Myhr really has her students best interest and provides all the materials needed to ace the class. Her exam questions come from the learning objectives which I highly recommend you do and the review quizzes on blackboard. The class consists of 4 exams + final. She is really straightforward with her expectations so there are no surprises.
If you're taking her for comparative I'd highly recommend a different professor. She's extremely unorganized, you'll spend 90% of lecture wasting time with last minute group exercises, whereas the important stuff for exams she briefly talks about in the last 10%. Her exams are unrealistic and you perform badly if you don't interpret how she would.
Biology hasnt always been easy for me and this class just made my anxiety about it much worse. Karens tests are written differently than the way students studied. Her teaching style is one that does not work for everyone and she fails to teach different ways to ensure that everyone understands. My advice: take a different professor.
With this class it is important that you know how to study. I used to start studying atleast a week before the exams and used the textbook and learning objectives to do so. It is a class where its important you dedicate a lot of time to. I had her for 1050 and got an A- and now for 1510 got an A because I finally understood how she taught.
I LOVE KAREN!! I took her two semesters in a row because she's such a great teacher. She's willing to answer any questions and review material until you're comfortable with it. She really wants everyone to do well and is a fair grader. homework is fairly easy and exams are hard if you study!!
Dr. Myhrs teaching methods do not cater to every students learning style which could easily be a problem. Tests are worded differently from the study material. alternative grading assignments for students really do help when I comes to your overall grade. Nice professor but not that great at teaching. She is hyped up for no reason.
Karen has a great personality and is more than happy to help her students, but the way she teaches is very difficult for some to understand. There are lots a quizzes (not hard though), 4 exams, a final, and lab (which is unnecessarily difficult depending on your lab instructor). I would highly suggest going with another professor if you can.
Dr. Mhyr is one of the most caring professors Ive had. she lets you know what to expect and prepares you, its your job to put in the effort outside of lecture. Great professor and I've learn a lot from her.
Dr. Myhr doesn't merely teach, she weaves a story for students to hear as she walks around in the class, trying to accommodate all their attentions and make them work their best and, more than that, get excited in biology. It's a pity that I won't have her again, she's a tough grader, and expects a lot from you, but do your work and you'll be a fav
Karen was an absolutely terrible professor. The way she teaches can be very difficult for many to understand. If you want to save your GPA, please consider taking someone else (This is coming from someone who had their GPA badly impacted by this class). Lots of online quizzes, 4 tests, and 2 lab tests. Way too much work in my opinion.
Dr. Myhr is a great professor, but not in the ways many students expect. I think her aim is help create students who don't just eat up information, but can think about it for themselves. Keep an open mind, use the RESOURCES available at the university including her office hours, and take advantage of her genuine desire to help you grow. Worth it.
Dr. Myhr truly cares about her students. She wants them to learn as much as possible from what she has to offer, which is a lot. She expects you to work, but she teaches very well
Dr. Myhr knows the criteria very well. She does a very good job explaining the material and gives multiple resources to help you succeed.
She was amazing. BIO 1510 is very hard but she makes the lectures so everyone can understand, goes very slow and repeats alot. She actually takes students feedback into consideration and teaches based on it. I learned to study better from this course. You have to attend class and be involved to get an A. She gives so many resources for exams too!
So I was planning on becoming a DR. Little did I know that taking a professor like Dr. Mhyr would make me what to change my major to law. Ive never taken a harder class in my life. I study for 8 hours a day and still fail the exam. Please tell me how that makes any sense. Overall, I do not recumbent taking her as a teacher. Probably the worst prof.
The lectures go really fast & sometimes hard to truly understand because of the wording but you play the lecture back outside of class & then take your notes on what shes saying rather than the slides because shes does Echolecture & can download the slides on canvas. You can skip class I guess but you would want those clicker question points.
She is easily reachable and gives a lot of feedback to discussions online and emails you send her. There was a lot of homework but the exams were a lot easier if you did the work and studied the online quizzes. She has her days where she can be intolerant of talking but teaches well for a large lecture class.
if you want to teach yourself the entire course on your own and pay for it anyway, take her course. She recommends "resources", but it just seems like another way she gets out of actually teaching anyone anything. Ive taken several courses at wsu & none compared to the unnecessary load of work she assigns&expects all of your time to be for 1 class
Amazing professor, many people dislike her because she wants you to UNDERSTAND the material, you cant merely just memorize things. I would recommend the book and using any resources she makes available. Gives lecture prep homework so you know material before going to lecture, 4 exams that are heavily weighted but if you do hw youll be fine.
Dr. Myhr was outstanding. A lot of my peers disliked her but she was so organized. She was the most organized professor I have ever met. Tons of resources . Lecture is kind of more of an interaction type but she has so many resources available. Exams are based on her learning objectives and are not bad if you study . MUST TAKE HER!!
She gives out a lot of work and her test questions were very confusing.
She was not too bad. Lectures were hard to follow at times, but she is very helpful if you go to her office hours. you can tell she really cares about biology and the class. take advantage of tutors if you need help. she gives lots of homework and quizzes but it helps a ton in the class and cushioning your grade
She is passionate about her teaching and seems to know her stuff. The exams are what are expected for the most part, some questions can be really difficult, but she is really reasonable when reconsidering points. There is a lot of homework but most of them were pretty easy. She gives enough resources for the exams, seems like she cares how you do.
This was my first Biology class ever and it was hard for me to dive into but Dr. Myhr offers a lot of resources for Biology and other campus resources. She is a great professor for your first semester. She gives great feedback, encourages collaboration and participation, and is fair with her grading. She does give a lot of homework but it helps.
She puts up the lecture slides before lecture and I highly recommend to write them down before lecture and add notes while listening to her lectures. The tests are difficult at first because you have to get used to the way she words test questions. But If you study hard before the tests you should be okay. The quizzes are a HUGE help when studying.
Dr. Myhr is passionate about what she teaches and does her best to make sure her students succeed. Rather than just reading off the slides she explains certain concepts in depth and keeps the class engaged with clicker questions. For anyone planning to take this course just do your best on the hw and quizzes to pass her exams. So STUDY STUDY STUDY
Dr. Myhr is one of Wayne States greatest professors. She truly knows all there is to know about biology and is excited to teach her students. She sets up her class in a way that is easy for students to learn and pass,
Literally took up almost all of my time, also comes with a Lab and Team Meetings. Literally 80% of my semester was dedicated to trying to pass that dang class. Only way to pass is to 1-study her quizzes, 2-do her hw, 3-get ur clicker points, and do really well on the exams. First priority: Exams. Nothing else really matters if you pass the exams.
Dr. Myhr is an awesome professor. She truly knows what she is talking about and will take the time to assess the class knowledge through clicker questions. Her exams are mostly based on her lectures and she gives a lot of opportunities to excel in the class. However, you cannot fall behind in the class! Always attend the lecture.
She makes the tests extremely difficult with her wording. The only thing that saved me were going to the team meetings with out peer mentor. It's possible to pass without the book, but it'll make the daily homework go by much faster. Do the quizzes even though they are worth one point; it helps you on the test.
Prepare yourself for lots of studying if you want to pass. Keep up with the online homework and quizzes, they are easy points given to you if you try. The book isn't necessarily needed, but it does make the online work go by faster. Studying the learning objectives, homework, quizzes and going to lectures will get you a good grade.
I found her class to be quite a breeze. Her lectures helped, but I didn't rely on them too much when studying. I mostly took advantage of her online homework and unit quizzes that she has everyone do before each lecture. The questions in these quizzes are from her old exams and can show up in her most recent ones, so know how to answer them.
Be ready to teach yourself most of the materials. Lecture heavy, but her lectures aren't as organized. You won't stay on one topic and understand it fully, you'll keep jumping from one to another. Use the homework and quizzes as your study guide. Tests make up 83% of your grade.
amazing lecturer, does not just read off the slides. She actually explains and teaches, you actually learn in her class
There's multiple assignments due a week. Lectures are hard to follow because powerpoint mostly consist of diagrams with few words while she talks very fast; makes it hard to go back and understand what she said. Tests are difficult. She makes it clear she won't curve based on an average. My class average for one was 54% and still no curve.
This cruel lady gives us outrageous amount of homework when it absolutely does not affect our grade. You can earn 100 on all of it, and your grade will boost up not even 1 percent. She talks so much, it is difficult to understand her, let alone, her exams are horrifying. I wish I never took this class with her. She made me HATE physiology
lectures are extremely hard to follow in class because she talks too fast and has little written on slides. always have to go and rewatch them which takes 3 hours due to having to write down everything she says. She says her exams are based on lecture (not book). Exams are horrible and made to confuse you. Stay away. Class feels like 6 cr hours.
Do not take this professor for this course. I was very excited to learn about human physiology however at this point its just cramming as much as you can before the next exam. She talks extremely fast during her lectures, rushes material, exams are super tough, homework takes forever to do and barely counts towards your grade. Good luck!
By far the worst professor I have taken at Wayne state.
One of the worst professors i have had at WSU. She covers so much material for the exams and talks too fast. Exams are 90% of your grade and very difficult. She does not curve regardless of the class avg (was 52% on the last exam).
Dr. Myhr's grading criteria is very clear and her exams aren't that hard if you study. You have to study. That's just the nature of the subject and she tells you that. Reading the book really helps. Her Canvas quizzes are a very good indicator as to what the exam questions are going to be like and there's a lot of support available outside class.
She is the worst professor ever , Class is hard and confusing she packs so much into so little time . Theres a test like every 2 weeks its just horrible . Dont do it to yourself
Grading is pretty clear, but the only problems I had were the class pace and the exams. There was too much content crammed into each unit, and all of the chapters in the unit didn't even coincide. She purposely tries to trip you up on the exams by horribly rewording the questions and the answers. She is very rude and stresses everyone out too
Myhr is such a good professor, especially if you are not the best test taker. there are a lot of points for clicker points, discussion, and online homeworks and quizzes. I found her exams easy because most of the questions came from the online quizzes. Definitely a good choice if u actually want to learn.
Yes, lots of homework, but it forces u to study. and if you don't do it, really doesn't affect ur grade. she's really not that bad, very available and uses canvas well. lots of people expect 1050 level of difficulty and 1510 is just a tough course. study appropriately and you'll do fine. Avoid social loafing in groupchats; go to lecture, do the HW
dont blame the prof because the class is hard. 4 exams plus a final, drops the lowest, no curves. lab is worth 20% of ur grade. pretty standard for a college science course. she'll curve specific questions if you can make the case the question is bad. you'll be happy you took her bc she makes u learn and you need this stuff for premed + med school
Human physiology is an important class for every health profession, and many can appreciate that which is why id advise you to take this class with someone else. This class became more of how do I pass rather than actually learning the material. She makes it very difficult to enjoy. Not organized, and VERY unclear.
Exams are straightforward from lecture, Echo is your best friend with her. Print out the learning objectives and go through them as you rewatch lecture, best strategy for her. If its not on the learning objective, it wont be on the exam. Try not to focus on the quizzes, she'll reword them on the exam to trip up people who are just memorizing
Exams are easy(some) but she doesnt prepare you for them. She doesnt give good notes to study from, so you either relisten to her lectures and take notes, or you read the book. Shes rude, and tells people to post questions on the discussion board all the time. She also wastes time telling students to work in their teams. Final was super easy.
WORST PROFESSOR MOST RUDEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. HORRIBLE EXAMS and worth so MUCH of your grade. One Mistake brings you down to a B. Her final was NOT that easy and she really tries to trick you. After this, I hated this class. I have never worked so hard for a grade to earn a B.
She is a solid professor, her notes get straight to the point. But one thing I can proudly say is her exams are very fair. I can recall things that she put in her powerpoint on the exam. Yes this class does take work, but it was really interesting and her powerpoints went straight to the point. The final had old recycled exam questions. TAKE HER!!!
Took Dr. Myhr for both BIO 1050 and 1510 and I did well in both, but I definitely had to work for it. Her exam questions get really in depth sometimes, but her final is fairly broad if you generally understand the material. She rushed through lectures so you pretty much have to cover material on your own. She's decent at explaining concepts.
some of yall need to adjust your expectations of a college professor lol. tells you exactly whats on exam, communicates clearly thru canvas, and fairly to follow. 4 exams + final, drop the lowest, lab and homework/clicker questions. u do have to attend lecture which is annoying if u like to use echo. no profs is gonna give u exact notes for an exam
I wish people who didn't show up to class weren't allowed to review. Her exams are STRAIGHT from the lecture. The kids who say otherwise 1) didn't attend lecture, or 2) were one of the people who payed such little attention in class they need a group chat to alert them when she was asking a clicker question. Yeah; those people are reviewing.
This rating will be one of the best, she is good for 1000s level classes not 3000 at all. She tries to get to the point but never succeed. I have read the book, study in groups and literally studied everyday for the class, she made the class boring. Always makes mistakes then remember the next lecture she did something wrong. I dont recommend her.
She is a great professor that really helps you learn the material. She writes all her own exams so TBs are useless. Her exams are very fair and all based on her lectures and powerpoint slides. You have to study a lot for a good grade, 3 exams, one drop, and final... Her homework adds up to like 2 or 3 % so so good on the exams.
very hard exams. labs barely boost your grade. she is very broad when lecturing an every specific in her exams. take her if you already took AP bio. other than that u will suffer.
I had Dr. Myhr for 1050 and 1510. I feel she is a solid professor. Before her, I had never had a Biology class before and it took a lot of work to keep up but if you put in the work to understand the concepts you'll be fine.
I am a straight A student and this class stressed me out. One thing I did not like is when we had an exam on Wednesday, she would give us 2-3 more chapters to learn that Monday for the exam. It was too much at once. The exams were 90% of your grade.
The first day of class when everyone walked in she goes, "Honestly, people rarely ever pass my class so if you want to do that, you better work hard." And that's when I knew she was going to be the worst professor I ever had. She wasn't accessible outside the classroom, was very rude to students when they had questions, and wasn't understanding..
she is a very difficult examiner. Her class seems easy but it tricks you because the exams are very difficult. you have to be able to to answer all the clicker qs before the exam if you want to pass. you need to understand the material not just memorize it. just find old exams and go to her office hours. its hard class, lots of hw
unnecessarily rude, boring voice and she speaks fast (kind of like a way to seem like shes teaching by throwing a bunch of words at you, but when you slow her down she doesnt make much sense) exams arent bad because shell reuse practice questions but there will be times shell reword them as a way to trick you. The book teaches better than her.
Multiple attempts on Quizzes and homework. Available at stem commons encourages drop in hours very few extra credit. Tests are very heavy need to use the book. Attendance is required but lenient.
I think Dr. Myhr is an amazing professor. She gives a lot of resources to help you study, as long as you actually take HW and quizzes seriously. They count for alot of points too. The class has a TON of content but not very hard to keep up with. She is also so organized. Test questions can be confusing but she will take questions off that are bad.
The class was relatively easy. There is a lot of homework. It is best to read the book before lecture to understand the content more. The test questions are confusing but if you did good on the online quizzes, you'll do fine. Her lectures are somewhat boring but the powerpoints are short and sweet and explains the concepts in simple terms.
Dr. Myhr truly cares about your understanding of the concepts she teaches. There is a prep, homework, and occasional quiz due before each lecture. However, they are beneficial for the exams! I did not read the book, and instead rewatched the lectures and took notes. I've definitely learned a lot!
Dr. Myhr is a really great professor for BIO 1050! Take notes on the lectures which are posted on ECHO, prepare for each unit exam thoroughly and you should be able to pass. Keyword: PREPARE! I wish she was teaching 1510 semester, the way her class is set up in 1050 really helps you in learning. Especially the unlimited attempts at HW and Quizzes!
Dr. Myhr really sets up every single one of her students for success. She gives you many resources as well as a detailed study guide before each class period of pages that would be helpful to read before class. She truly wants to see her students succeed and is a great professor. I wish she was teaching 1510!
Dr. Myhr is truly a great professor. She knows the material she's teaching, and she truly wants you to understand the material in order for you to excel in bio. Believe me when I say this, do the quiz questions and explain why each answer is wrong/right, and you will do great on the exams. I'd definitely take her again.
She is really passionate about Bio 1050 and tries to teach the material in different ways. Her exams are difficult but if you read the textbook and pay . attention in class the exams come easier.
Myhyr is nice, but as a senior she is by far the worst prof I have ever had. DO NOT take BIO 4200 with her, she has a weird way of teaching it (Didn't learn a thing in class). Trust me I never complain about profs but this was disgusting. Have been working my butt off for 3 years to maintain a high GPA and she ruins it. Take another WI. TRUST ME!
I've had her for 4200 and 4120. She is a very good teacher, and I've done better than I usually do in her classes. Pay attention and focus on the lecture material. Also focus on homework. Important note: she has this style where the second test is harder than the other ones for most students. Make sure to try and do your best for all exams esp 2nd
Dr. Myhr was one of the hardest teachers I have ever had. She does do echo 360, but she goes off topic a lot and covers so much material in one lecture. I would definitely find a different professor if you have the option. Had to teach myself all of the content myself because she goes so fast in the lecture and makes no sense.
Dr. Myhr truly does not care about her students, and there is no way that someone could convince me otherwise. She is the type to want to trick her students on exams. Her exam questions are often debatable. She gives a stupid amount of homework. She took points away from my exam because I accidentally bubbled in one letter of my name incorrectly.
I've taken Dr. Myhr for many BIO classes, most recent of which was physio, and she's sadly lost her way. She became rude and uncaring of her students. I think she's better at teaching lower-level bio, and has no business teaching 3200. Many errors in her homework that caused students to lose points, rushed thru material and tested us on it. Run.
Dr. Myhr is the best! She sets the homework and quiz deadlines for before class starts so that you already have a good foundation for the lecture. You've gotta work for your grades - this is NOT a blow off class. Do the quizzes, HW, read the book where she tells you too, and study and you'll do well in the class. Go to office hours! Ask questions!
Lots of hw. Don't expect 3200 to be easy. Lots of material on each of the exams. Some of the questions will resemble hw questions but be changed. This doesn't count as a trick, think and read carefully, and check your answers. Class can be a little annoying w/ activities but to each their own. Fair about giving exam points back.
Dr. Myhr is a GREAT professor! She expects a lot from her students but gives you many opportunities to succeed. This is NOT a memorization class. As an upper level BIO class you are expected to apply what you know on exams. Read the book, take notes about the figures, participate in class, and STUDY! Her rating should be a lot higher than it is!!
Dr. Mhyr demonstrates a real desire for her students to succeed. Her exams are reasonable and I liked that she does homework quizzes to prepare you for the exams. However, if you have a question she does not always just answer it and may sometimes give attitude for it. Nevertheless, she wants her students to learn.
She's great, there is a lot of homework but the homework questions are used as the exam questions. If you are in her class make sure to watch the amount of assignments that go into credit because there are several extra to allow for some wiggle room. She also had regular office hours and spent time in the STEM commons to help students out.
I do not understand this teaching style. She hasnt done any teaching all semester, we are doing projects. What about the rest of the material I am missing? Shes nice enough and seems to care but I wanted this material for medical school. Waste of time and money.
If you sign up for this class, be prepared for the work. During zoom, there are breakout rooms with graded activities. She also gives projects every week & weekly quizzes. We also had a midterm, unit quizzes, & a final exam. She is not a tough grader & she will answer any questions you have. No camera required & no lockdown browser. All open notes.
Dr. Myhr is a great professor. She explains biology very well, but nothing else. The organization of the course was terrible. She expects you to exceed expectations to get an A in the class. I like that quizzes and tests don't matter that much but the projects she assigns are very time-consuming.
Hate the class, if it was up to me she WOULD NOT be a professor. Had an attitude and didnt work with us.
Her grading is very frustrating. If you do everything on the rubric (14/14) it's considered a B+ and only when you do extra is that considered an A. However, her grading is subjective as I did extra and still received a B+ in that category. Her class is a lot of work but not impossible to get an A. Just make sure you do the reading.
Dr. Myhr despite having a tough online class was very nice and caring. She did not believe in using the lockdown browser because it is an invasion of privacy to her. Weekly quizzes are open note, book, neighbor. Creative assignments were confusing at first but were easy to get the hang of. 10/10.
Absolutely don't take if you don't have to, especially online. Does not care about her students at all and assigns a lot of busy work. She encouraged complaints and feedback but never changed. Her lectures don't help so be ready to teach yourself. She drops two of everything at the end but there is so much assigned that it doesn't even matter.
Worst structured class I've ever taken. I'm used to teaching myself the material but it was difficult to even do that with all of the busy work, little (very confusing) to no guidance and even after spending hours on an assignment its a gamble with your grade. Open note quizzes/exams. Knowledgeable professor but terrible class, learned nothing.
This was literally THE WORST class I have ever taken in all of my college years. She did not teach at all. Human phys has always been one of my favorite classes and she ruined it for me. Assigns too much busy work, that you don't even have time to teach yourself the material. Her exams are hard and the class structure is awful, DON'T RECOMMEND!
If you want to learn physiology do not take her class as she doesn't teach any physiology. Her class organization was awful, she assigns too much busy work, and she doesn't seem to care about her students at all. She asks us to come to her with concerns but proceeds to ignore them. Her exam and HW grading is very confusing and inconsistent.
The people who complained here were likely the same people who always said they never watched her lectures and questioned why the quizzes/assignments were difficult. As long as you watch her lectures and actually apply yourself (which is expected in any 3000+ course) you'll be fine. Everyone wants an A but most aren't willing to do the actual work.
The teacher is super nice and her tests are really easy. They are all open book and the quizzes she gives before the exams really help. If you do the quizzes, watch her lectures and do the study guides you will really learn a lot. Awesome teacher and she really opens up to you if you go to office hours. Easy A.
Class is mandatory but there are ample drops for quizzes and participation. It would be hard to fail this class if you are trying to understand the material. Dr. Myhr is so sweet and caring and loves to answer questions. Contact her through discussion posts instead of email. You need to read or watch mini lectures to pass. Do not skip class.
Probably the best distribution of grades Ive ever had in a class with the exams only being worth 12% and the final 6%. However, because of this, you will have a ridiculous work load. This is a 3 credit class and I spent more time on this class than all of my other classes this semester combined. She does care about students but only to a point.
She was a great professor, she distributed the grades very well. Assignments were weighted more than exams. The assignments take a while to do, but they help you prepare for the exams. Overall this was a great class! She also offers a lot of drops for quizzes and assignments. The class seems overwhelming at first, but it is very well structured.
Dr. Myhr is the worst online Human Phys professor. We had way too many assignments in place of exams. While getting an A was nice, I learned and retained nothing from her class because of how she set up the course. Now it's biting me in the ass when prepping for the MCAT. Do yourselves a favor and take Human Phys with anyone but her.
If you want to pass this class, then take this alone. She wont allow you to keep up with other classes by how much work she gives. Also a tough grader and adds more stress to your life. Would rather drop out of school than ever take her again.
The class is easy and she gives you many opportunities to pass, but the professor is not my favorite.
This class is a pretty easy A. It's a lot of busy work but you get a second chance to resubmit any assignment and earn credit. Exams are ok but fair, you can still earn credit for an exam if you complete the exam reflection which is pretty easy but time consuming. In the beginning of the semester the class seems pretty unorganized but it's not bad.
Dr. Myhr is a kind professor. She does care about her students, and gives several chances to pass instead of getting a fail grade. She also has some contracts which you can decide to choose at the beginning of the class. The higher the contract, the more work you have to do, so think twice before choosing.
Great professor, she does give a lot of work but she gives you so many redos where if you actually do your work you will get an A.
Dr Myhrs class was confusing at frist but you get the hang for it, she makes you work for the grade that you want she is not hard and an a in her class is possible if you put in the work
Dr. Myhr is a good professor. Her lectures are easy to understand. An A is not so difficult to achieve if you really spend time working with the assignments. Quizzes are unlimited attempts, and exams aren't hard also. She allows you to choose contract that fits the grade you want. I will definitely take her back for BIO1500.
She is extra accommodating to her students during the pandemic. Even though this class is mad difficult, she made it bearable by keeping the exams open note. You do have to think during exams, but at least you have resources.
I currently have her and the class structure is hard to understand at first but once you get the hang of it, it is easy to figure out. She goes out of her way to make sure students learn and also perform well in her class.
I currently have her. She's amazing, kind and caring. Her lectures are understandable so don't miss any of them! She allows you to choose contracts for grade, so think carefully before picking, and don't cherry-pick! If you pay attention and work hard, it will be an easy A! I will take her again since I'm majoring Biological Sciences.
She's a very good professor. Just watch her lectures, show up in her class, and do her works you will get a good grade. However, I don't like her grader.
Super kind and caring towards students. She understands peoples situations and empathizes with students.
I love Karen! She's the best.
This class is a lot of work. There is a term paper and a lab paper and the "exams" are essays. Dr. Myhr does a good job at pacing you through it all. You will spend a lot of time reading and summarizing papers. Sometimes there are opportunities for redos. She's good and fair in her grading. The class is based on essays. discussion not lecture/exam
Big group project, big term paper, and a ton of busy work in between. Homework, "textbook" assignments(just more homework), Perusal. Each little piece of the project and paper are written one at a time and it takes forever. A lot of reading and discussing scientific literature, writing scientifically and analyzing data. Didn't learn much at all.
The workload depends on the "grade contract" you chose, so it could be either light or heavy. Dr. Myhr is also a kind and helpful person. She makes very well-thorough lectures on Echo360, and allows many opportunities for students to earn credit for quizzes and exams. I really recommend her! Just do the works, and you can get the grade you want!
She doesnt trick students on exams. She is straightforward and breaks down concepts well for students to understand. I liked her teaching
Dr. Myhr never gives you an exam with questions or lessons you haven't learnt before, which is super easy. Her lectures are helpful, too.
One of the kindest Professors. She was so understanding and accommodating to her students during the pandemic. She made our exams open note and gave us many opportunities for extra credit.
I enjoyed Myhr's class! It was different than what I'm used to because she assigned contracts. Essentially, we chose our grade and then had to work for it. She also gives good feedback and second chances. Her class is super organized.
Dr. Myhr is a kind professor but her class along with the lab is a ridiculous amount of work. This one class comes with more work than all of my other class combined. Her grader is very strict, but allows resubmissions for most things. It is extremely hard to focus on all of your other classes when this Bio 1510 class takes up all of your time.
Awful teacher. She grades so strictly. So many assignments a week. As a result, it's hard to focus on other classes. Avoid her if you don't want to take a risk!!!
It is a "BASIC" Life Mechanisms class, but you will be expected to know the COMPLEX parts of the content like it's second-hand knowledge. 2 Unlimited attempt quizzes per week, 1 reading per week, a short essay per week, projects every 2 weeks, 5 exams that she makes herself but opennote. It is a lot of work but there are a decent amount of drops.
it was hard class with a lot of memorize and learning materials. she gives a lot of homework, assignment and quizzes which help you to understand the class. The best part is that her exam is from the lecture. If you study hard you can do best in the class.
She has a lot of knowledge and I'm sure she's a great teacher for those who are interested in biology, but the amount of classwork is insane. So many short essays, creations take forever, and Allison is a horrible grader, she defintely picks favorite.
This class was very unorganized, dates were changed all the time. We were given too many assignments a week that barely helped our grades. So many short essays, and creations take forever, and Allison is a horrible grader, very vague with feedback. Plus she never reaches back on time.
If you want an A, take her! Shes knowledgeable + cares about her students, wants you to suceed! Exams are open-notes + quizzes are key! Many resources to learn from! Yes, there is a lot of assignments, don't get me wrong and does take up time, but she offers second attempts on them! There are lots of drops too. Hard to fail! Myhr > Turchyn all day!
I do not understand why so many people are complaining even though they got A. Be appreciative people! At least, she was lenient enough for you to ace the class
The class was not difficult, just extremely time-consuming. If you need to score well on exams, you have to attend lectures and keep up with the coursework. Your grade would be fine if you do not score well on exams, but you have to stay on top of the many, many due dates.
Myhr is a good professor. She is kind and helpful. But I dislike Allison because of how she grades the work.
There are some classes that consume a lot of your time and then you end up with a bad grade. For this class, it's not the case. If you do amazing on assignments that are very easyyyyyyyy to do and get done and average 80 on your exams you will earn an A. This class can not be easier and better. SHE MAKES LEARNING BIOLOGY VERY FUN AND EASYYYYYYYY
I loved Dr. Myhr If you do the hw and follow the directions you're guaranteed an A. She cares more about education than scores which is why her class is an easy A & why she's a great prof b/c you actually end up learning so much. She uploads minilectures that are beneficial & her exams were open note open book & questions came from material in ML.
Myhr >Turchyn! Take Myhr for 1510 for a smooth transition from high school biology to college biology.
She assigns way too much homework for any student with a full schedule! Don't take this class if you expect to learn anything from her. She assigns work that she doesn't even look at and you are expected to teach yourself the entire course.
She is so kind to each and every one of her student! Really wants to see us all prosper in class! Loved her!
I love Bio sm and Dr.Myhr is nice! I wonder if the course would've been better if I took it before this semester. It's so much work- I'm barely reading the textbook and ACTUALLY learning. Even a TA said that Dr.Myhr increased the work this semester. She's apparently testing things out. I just hope she tones down for future classes- I'm so burnt.
Grading system is horrible, one of the TAs claimed that she makes the TA's regrade the assignments if the average was high. So may meaningless assignments which makes the class overwhelming. Most of what is covered in class is a waste of time, and the huge number off assignments leaves you barely anytime to study on your own.
Anyone who says Myhr is a good professor took her before she switched to online. She is so passive aggressive when students ask her for help over the shit ton of assignments she assigns, TAs are grading all of our homework assignments and are required to keep grades within a "mean." you lose points over the dumbest shit. Just avoid this class
Exams are only 10% of overall grade which is rare for upper level science class, but there are interactive assignments.
While the class did have a large work load, that is to be expected of any class. Dr. Myhr was extremely understanding of situations with the online class and technology issues. She also provided grace periods and many opportunities to retake if you truly tried. As long as you do the work, you can get an A.
Wish I had her for more classes! Great instructor! Unfortunately she is not teaching any upper level bio class next semester :(
Forgiving replacement policy for exams - but at a price. You're gonna work for it two times over so better off doing it right the first. Very extra in assignments, you'll be too busy turning things in to actually learn.will not work with you on anything and is a REALLY TOUGH GRADER. I barely pulled a B and still found plenty reasons to complain.
Ton of homework. This class was interesting and easy due to the exam retakes/bonuses but there was so much homework that it was hard to learn the actual content. Dr. Myhr also does not write LORs or curve/offer extra credit so be wary of that. If you are looking for a course that is not stressful to obtain an A, then her courses are the one.
If you work as a peer mentor for her class, then she will definitely write a LOR for your your med school requirement! Great instructor who wants students to learn and have fun without dreading college.
Class was heavy with assignments but each was worth little points so your grade doesnt drop from one or two bad scores. it's a writing-intensive course so be ready to write a lot (article summaries and lab reports) and read a lot of articles. She is lenient about due dates and a fairly easy grader. gives good feedback, did not learn much in lecture
This professor is the worst professor a student can have. She is very rude to her students and REFUSES to answer questions. She does not follow her OWN rubric. SO UNPROFESSIONAL.
This is such a hard class and you will literally have to do hours of homework for it every day. The tests are impossible and the averages are Ds every time.
if you want to teach yourself an entire course, then take this. she uses 3-year-old lectures that give no information and expects you to know things that are never taught on the test. DO NOT TAKE HER anyone who said shes good had her online
This professor is super disrespectful and does not care if your family member is dying. Her exams are all "select that apply" and no partial credit is given. She also REFUSES to answer questions. Lastly, she randomly coughs phlegm in the middle of speaking is absolutely disgusting. She has no class what so ever.
All these reviews are probably from those who haven't touched a book or studied in a day in their lives. Honestly, her exams are fairly simple, also most professors put that there is more than one answer that is correct on their exams. In any science class, you take no matter what you have to study.
This woman is just so entitled and inconsiderate. She structures her class as if people dont have multiple other classes to study and do work for. She moves at the speed of light and then get mad when people do not understand a concept. She is horrible @ communication outside of class. The prep quizzes are easy, but the actual exams are so difficult
This was the worst teacher ever. Exam structure is bad does select all that applies for all of the exams, doesn't give enough time for them.Very inconsiderate and acts entitled, flags all work as plagiarism. She's is very unorganized, lies to her students telling them that there's an exam drop and then at the end of semester says there isn't one.
Do not let my grade fool you. This professor achieves high ratings on this website due to how easy-to-cheat her online courses were during Covid. This professor is a complete disaster. My biggest issue with her is the flipped class model she forced on us depite our protests against it. She does not teach any material, and doesn't answer questions.
Course was conducted face to face, but it had the structure of an online course. Exams were challenging with select all that apply questions, and they did not match the practice quizzes. The heavy workload felt unbeneficial, and mandatory discussions didn't add value. Overall, I struggled with the exams and workload. Save yourself please.
tons of hw ridiculous exams no extra credit very mean and doesn't care whatsoever if you pass or not from a straight-A student, this is my first B save your GPA and don't take her
all the good reviews are either before or during covid when she was online she changed the whole structure of her class after covid if you want to spend 20+ on one class and still end up with a B, then take her ridiculous class truely
Organize creations into headers and add details to PPTs for creations (~ 4 hours). WRITE DOWN EVERY WORD said in mini lectures using script function (~ 6 hours). Treat SATA questions as true/false questions. She expects you to read textbook but if you use mini-lecture script, you don't have to. Got ~100 on every creation/exam! 10 hrs/week though.
A complete slog, but it's not the hardest to get an A. Several questions were ambiguous and sometimes plain wrong. Hated the minilectures, learned from the book and internet (isn't that funny?) Exams were only 50% of the grade. Projects took long. Overall, students would benefit a lot if they actual read the syllabus, but it was a sucky class still
I'm relieved this class is finally over! The exams were very difficult, only having "select all that apply" questions with no partial credit. There were also too many assignments, which made it hard to concentrate on the material. The reviews accurately convey how challenging this class is, so be prepared to make it your main focus. Good luck!
As a professor, Myhr is very confusing and tends to be vague. She's one of those professors who say one thing and do the complete opposite on an exam. We have 4 main projects worth 100 points that don't make a dent on your grade, and exams are all "select all that apply". She's hard to talk to with and wouldn't recommend her to my worst enemy.
Myhr's coursework used to be easy back in fall 2022, then she changed it up and made it more difficult during the winter 2023 semester. She has no exam drops, just one of the four projects dropped. I took her class because I was told she gives multiple assignments as an opportunity to higher grades, but not anymore. Save yourself the headache.
Dr. Myhr is nice, but her teaching is subpar at best. Limited in person class to one day a week and posted pre recorded lectures with powerpoints that did nothing for my comprehension of the material. Doesn't answer emails in a timely manner and a lot of unfair grading on exams and projects.
Professor Myhr does not manage her time well. She will spend more than half of the class going over what we did last time in class then spend the last 10 minutes of class lecturing like there's no tomorrow about what we were supposed to learn that day. She will only realize that her time is up when we all start leaving.
Dr. Myhr is not a good professor. Avoid her at all costs. She does not teach anything, she spends 80% of class talking about last weeks assignments and deadlines and spends maybe 5% on new material. The rest of the time is her clicker questions. Writes her exam questions to trick her students. TERRIBLE. AVOID HER! Wait till next semester for better
Worst professor I have ever had in all my years of school. Not good at giving lectures, the tests grading system is horrible. horrible horrible horrible. Should have taken another professor.
I FEEL MISERABLE THAT i HAD TO WITHDRAW THE CLASS AFTER 2 MONTHS BECAUSE OF THE TESTS THAT WERE SO DIFFICULT, YOU CAN ONLY PASS THIS CLASS IF YOU STUDY ON YOUR OWN AND LITTERLY DONT RELY ON THE LECTURE BECAUSE DURING LECTURE YOU CAN BARELY UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE IS SAYING. iM AN A STUDENTAND THAT WAS THE WORST EVER CLASS i HAVE TAKEN.
Extremely rude.
I withdrew from the class because her exams were messing with my GPA. I'm sure she's a good person.. Honestly if you aren't good with exams make sure your creations are good, they are not that hard to do. Other then that, study hard for the exams. I had to watch videos and do tutoring out of class. But I recommended join a study group and goodluck!
Professor Myhr is rude and inconsiderate of her students. I got an A due to her adding 60 points of extra credit after her being reported to the dean by two separate groups of students in the semester. This simply made her bitter. I do not recommend her at all and would advise against taking her if there is any choice.
Great professor, if you actual came to college to learn there is nothing to fear. She will give you all the tools you need, but its up to you to put in the work and participate.
There's a lot of work considering i took her prereq course, by she prepares you for the future and she gives you a lot of oppertunities to get better. If you come to her with an issue that can't be resolved on your end, she'll help. She gave my entire class 60 points extra credit because she realized our class was harder than her previous ones.
I did not enjoy this class, she seems reasonable at first but then you realize why. Her exams are difficult especially because she implemented a select all that apply system where you lose all your points for one wrong. She gave extra credit but it's not enough for the stress she creates beforehand.
Dr. Myhr's exams are quite difficult due to a specific grading system, and she admitted that she had designed our semester to be harder than others. I would have ended with a B if it were not for the generous extra credit points she added halfway through that bumped me up 10%. I will try to avoid taking her again, but I am very happy with my grade.
Wallah I would rather do jail time than take her class again. I mean this in all seriousness. The sheer volume of work this class has should be enough for a degree. Do something else with someone else. If you take her and hate yourself for it remember me- I TOLD YOU SO.
Lectures jumped all over in the textbook/online so it was hard to go back and forth throughout to study. She described things decently but doesn't cover full material in class. Creation projects for every unit were graded hard. Exam were hard and formatted weirdly. She had to give us additional points 60 for the semester bc they were so hard.
Very disorganized lecture. Had to teach myself almost everything. But, the projects do help make up for bad exam grades if you do well on them. Wasn't receptive to anything the students had to say. After awhile, you get used to the way of her teaching. Overall, not a good or bad class. Not an easy A, but it is manageable as long as you focus.
DO NOT take her for comparative physiology. Even the TA's would complain to US about how terrible she was responding to them. She is extremely unorganized, not able to communicate to her students or TA's, and was passive aggressive at times. The TA's are left to do most of the grading. I could go on all day about her but I ran out of words.
Get ready to read and spend over 10 hours a week if you want an A for the class. I told her I was studying 12 hours a week for her class and she said, "Good, that should be enough for a B." She isn't considerate of our time or other responsibilities. Exams are really tough. You can get by though. Avoid her if possible. Do yourself a favor.
do you yourself a favor and never take her classes. expects students to memorize the textbook. lectures don't help.
She doesn't teach using traditional lecture format, in her classes, both BIO5890 & BIO4120, they were both discussion-based where participation with peers and showing up to class is sometimes considered, depending on the class. She uses perusall, which is a software that you interact on to read articles, and in class, that is what we discuss.
She's so rude, she doesn't want to teach, you have to memorize the entire textbook if you want to pass her class. Tests are made so incredibly difficult for no reason. Don't take her for any class and if you do good luck.
Her tests are worded strangely and are confusing. Additionally, the tests are wighted to be 72% of your grade, so if you don't do too well on a test your grade will tank. There is also a lot of busy work that is given which barely affects your grade.
What I would do to go back 4 months and not taken it with her. The most inconsiderate professor I have ever came across. She doesnt consider student feedback whatsoever. The entire class was STRUGGLING on exams, with a average of 57, yet she stil argued she was right. U will spend hours per day just on the HW, having no time to even study for exams
Professor Myhr is an okay prof. I have had her for 2-3 classes so far, I have gotten As in her classes but you have to work really hard for it. She gives lots of homework which in my opinion does not help with understanding topics for her exams but they do help with your grade.
I took this course over a year ago but it was so horrible that after constantly thinking about it, I've come to share my experience. Would love to go into detail (if i had the space) on how her tenured ego absurdly complicates what should be a straighforward topic. Don't be fooled by the many covid-time positive reviews. Look at recent reviews.
Awful professor for a difficult course. Lots of miscommunication between her and the students/TA. Does not show much empathy for her students. Presents a lot of work and marks harshly, even for the term paper she informed GA/TA to mark hard. Doesn't even properly communicate her course material and progression. Avoid at all cost or pay the price :(
Only bad thing I can say
She can come off rude to students, and it seems like it is mainly the ones who don't seem to understand the content. Other than that she is helpful outside of class and if you study and want to perform well in the class, you can do well. The content isn't too difficult. She is a 50/50 professor depending on the student.
This course has made me want to change my whole career path. I have never struggled so much in a class and I have done nothing but study and put in the work inside and outside of class. She is rude for no reason very often and does not have many resources related to the exams. Our class average on the first exam was less then a 60%. NEVER AGAIN.
Doesn't teach that well, retake everything you can until you get a perfect score and take advantage of her extra credit points. Our class did so badly that she cut out a lot of material. Exams are relatively easy just study.
Do not take! Her class relies on showing up to class in order to learn at all, she wont curve regardless of how many students are failing her course, she doesn't use the textbook, she floods you with quizzes, summaries, and exams all while her slides are confusing, she wears a mask that makes it hard to clearly hear her, and is disrespectful!
Do not take this course. The quizzes are barely worth anything and do not help your grade at all. Her exam questions make no sense and have so many typos! If you cannot show up to your stem group, you cannot change and you will lose so many points.
I really don't agree with a lot of these ratings. There's some busy BS work but overall if you apply yourself, study/review, and take good notes, this class is a breeze. You can retake quizzes unlimited times to review if you need to and you can also retake exams a few times. TBH if you don't do good in this class it's on you not the professor.
Worst professor I've ever had. I had her for an intro biology course and nothing about that class was “intro”. Day one we were learning about how diabetes works. Skipped a lot of important info needed to understand the material she was teaching. Very outdated style of teaching and the lectures drag on and on and on.
Good professor, very polite, and is always open to helping others. Attendance is mandatory; you must get clicker points and points to attend meetings outside the lectures. No, study guides, but they will let you retake exams if you qualify for them. It has quizzes to help you study and explains the methods you can use to study.
If you want to do well in her class, you need to work for it. Take advantage of her Zoom hours, the LA's Zoom hours, and small group meetings. Attend all the lectures and small group meetings because they count for points and you'll want ass the points you can get. You can retake exams up to 3 times & online quizzes help you study & review.
she is such a sweet person but her class was horrid. hardest class i've ever taken and i've taken genetics and orgo 2. i love cell bio as a subject but the experience of taking this class made me hate it. way way way too much homework to the point where i had genuinely no time to study for exams. exam averages were constantly in the 60s.
Run the other way! By far the most inconsistent and possibly the worst prof I have ever had. She wouldn't fix her mistakes on the exams, threatens mark redo will most likely bring down avg, and doesn't have a fair grading system for it. I'm all for tough professors for a good cause, but she didn't play fair. Lots of horror stories - avoid her!
I put hilarious as a tag for her because she's such a rough prof that it's actually funny. Seems like she tries to do well to organize the course but it just doesn't seem to hit the mark. Someone said on here they'd do jail time instead of this class and that perfectly defines this course.
She seems nice and all but is terrible as a professor and looks burnt out. Won't invest more time to improve the situation for present students. No wonder she hides class average. Exam 1 showed up for a quick second and it was 66%. Lots of strong students in this class, but her low averages reflect her performance of poor teaching and management.
The recent reviews are accurate, but, it's possible to do good in this class because she provides good cushion to hopefully alleviate the bad. If you can get lucky on exam marking and make a solid project, A is possible. But she's very inconsistent in marking and the reasoning for losing marks isn't valid. She needs to refine her course + teaching.
She seriously is the most unkind professor I have ever met and I actually passed the class with a great grade. She has made people have panic attacks in the class and is definitely one of the power trip professors, Wayne State needs to do something about her immediately.
The only good thing I can say is that she lets you retake exams, other than that, she is just not good. She is rude, doesn't respond to emails for weeks and just doesn't teach good. Most of my learning was done by myself, lectures were a blur, she just went on and on about something and nobody understood.
Dr. Myhr is a mid teacher, but the class is do-able. her lectures were difficult to understand so all my studying was based on the quizzes. do them many many times and you will be good. use your LA they will help you. the retakes are harder then the original test so dont rely on it.
Lab is 1 long group research that has to be approved. Lab has 1 long term paper. In-class lecture only 1x/week. Exams are based on reading research, short answer questions, and textbook questions. got 50/80 on each exam and managed a B+ in the course. Class is annoying, if you get the hang of it can manage a B and up. If can avoid her I would.
A lot of work initially presented in course but gets progressively easier to manage. Exams have too much variability so you basically cant study much for Data Analysis. The good thing is that exams dont require too much studying since it's conceptual; so be very detailed when writing. Stay caught with assignments and work ahead to optimize. Gl!
This professor wasn't terrible but she wasn't good either. Lectures were kind of helpful, professor tends to choose very mid LAs. Overall course wasn't that hard. I feel like this class is easy if you enjoy biology and don't mind studying and teaching yourself some stuff. Professor allows make ups, and randomly gave bonuses due to miss graded work?
It's possible to do well, it just takes a lot of work. Honestly, the text book and YouTube videos on the topics were much more helpful than any of her lectures. The LAs and TA were also a lot more helpful and accessible.
Don't let the old 5 reviews fool you, most of those reviews are old. She is rude to those who ask questions and tells you to read the textbook when what she teaches isn't even in the textbook, tests too. She teaches units completely out of order, and has meetings outside of class time, making them mandatory/graded. Avoid taking her at all costs.
She does not teach whatsoever. Whole class is based on group discussion where she does not teach a single thing about neuroscience. She will put you on the spot and ask you to analzye and explain a graph from an advanced research article. Class is self taught and useless. Don't expect to earn about neuroscience, expect to only look at graphs
!!!!DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR EVER!!!! The absolute worst professor I have ever experienced in my life. Class averages on each exam were in the mid 50's. Attendance for her lectures are required, and the biggest waste of time you'll ever experience. No matter how hard you try to pay attention and take notes, I can guarantee you won't learn. Next >
Continued > Where was I.. You will not learn a single thing from her lectures. Half the content on the exam, was never once even mentioned during lecture, which is why she expects you to basically memorize the entirety of the textbook to pass her tests. Please please PLEASE, do yourself the favor and NEVER take a single class with this lady.
(part 1) you guys there is a reason why she was on academic probation. she taught us 4-5 chapters per exam (for human physiology) with a cumulative final that included 26 chapters. and she barely curved our grade because, as per her syllabus, "this course is designed so all students can succeed by helping each other, not competing for grades."
(part 2) her exam questions are quite literally mcat-style. our LAs even said that other human phys profs are much easier than her. we tried talking to her about all of this, but she turned it back on us saying that we weren't doing enough to study or using our "resources" (weekly quizzes, short-answers, and the textbook). just save yourselves...
Dr. Myhr's teaching feels outdated, with tricky questions causing confusion. She struggles to manage the class, making lectures disorganized and unproductive. Students often must self-teach, and exams are overly difficult. Better organization, clearer instruction, and stronger classroom control are needed. I would not take this professor again.
Dr. Myhr seems to have an attitude at times but she is HIGHLY organized and is so engaging in the lectures, I learned so much. Her exams were spot on to the learning objectives she gave us. My lowest exam score was an 85. We were required to go to a group with an LA once a week which also helped so much. There were easy ways to get points.
Hard to follow; she jumps between topics in one lecture. Assignments were overwhelming (summarizing full units with drawings/text). Exams had few questions, so one mistake hurt. Lectures were recorded but attendance was required. No extra credit. Felt like we weren't set up to succeed.
SHE WAS AN OKAY PROFESSOR!
CONTINUED. 1 exam retake during final exam. passing the class is dependent on passing all exams. she gives no extra help. lecture slides consist of literal pictures around 35-55 slides and she teaches in analogy's. she says to focus on slides to study.... (straight face). do not take if you struggle in science classes, she is not helpful
also when students reached out for study guides or anything to help study for exams like what material to focus on more, she feels attacked and shuts everything down, never actaully answers any questions. exams were 30-32 questions with a 7pt SHORT ANSWER essay (anything was fair game). 10question or less wrong on each exam if you want to not fail
Dr. Myhr has a clear understanding and enthusiasm about biology which is infectious. Her exams were hard but not unreasonable. Mostly multiple choice and some select all multiple choice questions, too.
She's a nice person, but her lectures absolutely suck. There's like 3 words on her PowerPoint slides, so she relies heavily on the textbook to learn and understand material, so be ready to read the whole thing. Exams are not bad. Exams are not curved, but she allows retakes at the end, which can significantly boost your grade.
Whatever you do save yourself and do NOT take her. Her lectures don't help but attendance is for points. Exams are tough with multiple choice and multiple answers 3 points each, and 1 12-point written. This class ruined my 4.0 gpa solely due to her. Don't take her unless you want to spend 30 hours a week studying and getting a c on exams.
I really wish attendance wasn't mandatory, Dr Myhr is a kind professor but not the best lecturer. This course is really dense in terms of content, and you have to devote quite a lot of time to study weekly if you don't want to cram 5 huge ahh chapters in two days. Best advice I could give is to make the textbook your best friend & take notes
Okay so first and foremost you need to read the book in order to do good in her class. This is a nonnegotiable. Since cell bio is really minute details it will take a lot of time to know the information and process it. She goes through slides really fast and her slides are boring as heck. Some questions in her test are actually abysmal. 2/10 prof
if you can, do not take this course w this prof; she doesn't teach well(if at all) & expects you to come to class having already gone over everything on your own. u can do well in her class though, just make sure you grind on her quizzes for each unit; theyre the most similar to her exams.also the TA grades so hard on short answers for no reason :(
Take this class if you want to do several useless assignments and have her micromanage your study habits. Half of her otherwise nonsensical (but mandatory!) lectures are dedicated to her reminding you to study her way. This is a 3000+ level class. We know how to study, Dr. Myhr. I despise submitting study plans for credit -- I'm 22 years old, not 9
Gives 5-7 chapters per exam with TONS of content and detail for just a 34-question exam. She gives so much homework thats worth 1 pt each and you absolutely CANNOT fall behind in this class, In other classes you can maybe afford that, but not this one. Content is not that bad, it's just her teaching that makes it more complicated. So plan ahead!
She has an initially unintuitive method of teaching, but once you get a grip of her teaching style you'll come to appreciate it. I genuinely believe I improved as a student after taking BIO4120. That being said, this class is a LOT of work: papers, lab projects, readings, etc. It's worth it if you have the patience and tenacity.
She is absolutely the worst!!! if you see Myhr RUN!!!! she is absolutely terrible. Doesn't give a damn about her students. Wouldn't curve whatsoever even if the entire class is failing.
large amount of homework, quizzes, clickers, and short answers that required significant time but counted for only a small portion of the final grade. Most of the grade depended on a few heavily weighted exams that were difficult and often unclear in wording. Worst professor and class structure at wayne state, don't know how this is allowed.
DO NOT TAKE! even if you think you will be fine, YOU WON'T. worst written exams that were extremely hard. She does not care for the students at all! She will respond to emails in the most condescending way or not reply at all. No extra credit, no curves, no nothing!!!! Save your GPA and do not take. She is by far the worst professor at wayne
take this course with another professor. her tests are extremely hard and no curves or extra credit. Her final exam we were all lied to and she offered no curve. Has a superiority complex.
