You deff have to study to pass this class but that being said the material is not hard to understandmemorize. You can teach yourself everything a few days before the test. If you go to class you get extra credit and it goes on your lowest exam. You can skip class if you want. shes funny. her powerpoints aren't always clear. NO BOOK, JUST CLICKER.

Karen is a really nice and hilarious professor. She clearly knows her stuff and is passionate about the subject. She uses lots of metaphors to help students better understand the class. Extra credit is given for coming to class and there's an extra credit paper (not worth the timeeffort). Definitely study for the tests! Also, no textbook!

She has study guides for tests that basically say everything you should and shouldn't study. You get extra credit from your clicker just by going to class, and no final!

Karen Niland exceeds all expectations for a professor at UNH. She is passionate, hilarious, and an amazing influence on college students. Her class was extremely interesting. You receive extra credit for going to class & there are a few homework assignments. A very easy class if you put in the effort. I highly recommend this class to anyone!

The class grade is 90% exams and theyre pretty straight forward but don't completely ignore them because thats a quick way to sink your grade

I loved this class! It was actually super informative while still being interesting enough for me to come to an 8 am class. Karen has great stories and relates it back to the lectures really well. She also gives lots of extra credit which is nice!

Karen is the greatest, period. She makes the class so interesting and her great sense of humor, even with touchy topics, makes you want to show up to your 8AM. She really cares about her students. Attendance isn't required but people that struggle in this class are the ones who skip every week. 100% recommend, best discovery course!

Karen Niland is a wonderful professor. Her "making babies" class has been one of my favorites! The grades were only based on the three tests we had, you get extra credit for going to class and answering clicker questions (and an extra credit paper for those that choose to do it), and NO FINAL! Plus she's super funny, and a great lecturer!

If you have the chance to take a class with Professor Niland, do it. She is super funny and interesting, and she makes class worth going to. She gives extremely helpful study guides and lots of chances for extra credit. If you give effort you will get an A. You do need to study & participate, but it is definitely a class worth taking.

Prof. Niland is a great professor and really will help you out. I was extremely sick for one of the exams and she was so understanding about it and let me take it at another time. Gives lots of extra credit, it seriously helps your grade. Your final grade is just the three exams and extra credit. The exams were not hard if you studied. No final.

There is so much extra credit. The tests are totally fine if you study for them! You will actually want to sit through her lectures. She always made my day!!

Prof. Niland is really funny. The grading is a little confusing as she (and the syllabus) states that your grade is solely based on 3 exams, but she also makes us do various papers and quizzes. That side this class was very easy. No final and lots of chances for extra credit.

The best! Absolutely hilarious; no matter what time you have class, you will be glad you went. Showing up literally gets you extra credit, but it's still worth going to! Just have a clicker and you're all set. You have to watch like 3 movies outside of class and respond to them but otherwise wicked easy. Only 3 tests and if you study you will pass!

SUCH A FUNNY AND AWESOME PROFESSOR!!! This is possibly one of my favorite courses offered at UNH. There's no textbook, only 4 homework assignments, 3 exams, and no final! She gives 2 opportunities to earn up to 25 extra credit points onto your lowest exam grade. Her lectures are also so awesome and funny. I definitely recommend this class!!!

I mostly enjoyed taking class with her. You don't really need to take notes. As long as you do the study guide and actually study it you should do well on all of the exams. There was also no final so that's nice.

Professor Niland is by far the BEST professor I have ever had. She's hilarious and understands her students. The syllabus is super organized and straightforward. 3 exams & NO FINAL. You'll learn a lot and you'll actually be interested because she makes the class so fun and entertaining. You HAVE to take it! A huge GPA booster. I 100% recommend!

Karen is very interesting to listen to and she definitely knows her stuff. I took her class because I heard it was easy and I definitely had to work for my grade... not as easy as it seems!! A good class to take if you are willing to watch hour + documentaries every week and study hard for the exams.

she's super funny and fun, the homeworks are all quizzes you should try to do good on them because they'll help your grade, she gives an extra credit paper but theres 3 tests and they are pretty hard. this class is not as easy A people say it is but you 100% have to study to get a good grade, if you want an easy A class take germs

Honestly one of the best professors on campus, she will always make you laugh and she is available any time you need her. Be warned, she does assign longer documentaries to watch, although the quizzes that go along with the documentaries are not very long.

I would recommend this class to anyone! Karen goes far out of her way to make class as entertaining as possible. Showing up for class and using your clicker earns you bonus points on the lowest exam! PLEASE sign up!

THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. I couldn't think of a better professor to have my first year, first semester. She works off of slides in class, but doesn't read just off of them word for word. She is super casual in lecture and hilarious which makes it easy to retain the content. Homework is once a week, watch a documentary and take a quiz.

Although the class is fairly test heavy and graded only on a few things it is not a challenging class. She really does care about the class and she manages to make it pretty interesting.

SUPER funny professor, it was nice having her for my 8am. however, i disagree with many saying it is an easy A. some of the exams are extremely tough, requires a lot of studying and taking notes during class. however, if you dont skip and pay attention then it is manageable. a lot of the videos she makes you watch for homework are horribly long

Homework is watching hour long videos every week, but honestly some of them are pretty interesting. 3 exams, if you study for like an hour and a half honestly you will do fine. Okay, so most people say this is a really easy A. It's not there will be lots of homework and you'll actually have to pay attention to lectures for the exams. But the class is so fun because she is just a really great professor! Pay attention in lectures and put in the work and you'll really enjoy the class!

Professor Niland is great at engaging students. If you have the opportunity to have her for Nurs 450 I definitely recommend her. Weekly homework can be a bit long at times, but it's not hard and rather interesting. Exams are very fair and if you attend office hours you will be very prepared. Put the work in and you will succeed!

If you can take Making Babies, you should do it. Super easy GPA boost, great info on sex and pregnancy. Weekly HW under 30 mins, 3 exams open note, no final. You should go to lecture but you could skip and be okay. Seriously it was my favorite class, TAKE IT!

Karen is an excellent, engaging, and passionate lecturer, who really cares about her students. There is a lot of material but it is interesting and you do not need to memorize all of it. She gives study guides and is very easy to communicate with outside of class. TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!

Professor Niland is such a great teacher. This class was so fun and you learn some really interesting things you probably didn't know about before. There are 3 exams, no final and quizzes every week where you watch movies/videos. The quizzes were not bad, just watch the videos/movies and you'll do great. Definitely would recommend this class.

The exams were the hardest part of this class. She does IClickers in lecture which makes showing up practically mandatory because of how many points you'll get by showing up. Weekly homeworks, most were just 10 questions based off of videos or readings. One paper, one extra credit project. SUPER NICE and absolutely hysterical.

I loved Prof. Niland!!! Making Babies lectures were usually informative and interesting, the ppts can get dry but Niland's funny personal anecdotes and comments were enough to keep my attention lol. No textbook, just had to get a 10$ subscription to iclicker. Overall easy class, Niland seems like she really cares about the info. she is presenting.

She is a very warm professor. The course consists of three tests and homework. If you studied, the test would be very easy. It is important to organize the power points in your notebook.

Fall 2022. She is a great professor. There are 3 exams & no final. There is weekly homework, you watch a video and take a quiz on it. Go to class, you get extra credit points. She drops a couple of things as well. Good class, good professor, I did think her tests were hard sometimes. Take notes and make sure to organize them before the test.

Professor Niland is the BEST. Personal anecdotes and demonstrations of various topics that are all interesting and funny-- even early in the morning. Set out her expectations on day 1 and is very understanding. Used iClicker for attendance and participation, and the tests were all online with a lockdown browser. Would 100% take again.

This is a great course to take for your ETS discovery! There is one homework assignment per week and there are three online exams throughout the semester. She offers an extra credit assignment and the clicker grade is extra credit points in some shape or form.

So nice and accommodating. Gives extra credit and iClicker to help improve students grades. Lecture is not mandatory but there she does do iClickers. I would take her class again in a heartbeat.

Professor Niland is very nice and charismatic in class. However, for whatever reason, the class went from online open note exams to now being in person, closed note exams which is absolutely nuts with the amount of information that must be retained, especially for people outside of the major. Professor is great, absolutely would not recommend class

Literally one of my favorite classes. She kept things super interesting and shes very laid back.

Uses iClicker, and relies heavily on lectures for all information. Didn't do any of the "required" reading but got to use open notes on exams. Lots of extra credit points if you do the iClickers. Very funny, some of the content is graphic. For a discovery course, might wanna take something else if not a nursing major.

This woman is so funny. Go to lectures and take notes and answer iclickers for extra credit. attendance isnt mandatory though and you could probably pass the class by taking notes on weekly homework assignments and the slides that are posted on canvas.

Professor Niland is very entertaining in her lectures. As she puts it, her class is "fun but not easy." There is a lot of content, but if you go through the study guide and attend review sessions, you'll do well on her exams.

Very easy. Only three tests all semester and you can use a cheat sheet on them. There are weekly homework assignments but usually you just have to watch a video or read an article. I was able to end with a 100+ grade due to extra credit and good test grades due to the cheat sheet. She is a lot at 8am but lowkey entertaining and seems very kind.

Super interesting class, even better professor! She is super nice, gives lots of opportunity for extra credit. Exams can be challenging especially for a discovery credit, but she lets you bring a "cheat sheet" which helps a lot!

I really enjoyed Karen as a professor. The homework is very easy, however the tests can be difficult, and I found the study guides to not be very useful. Offers lots of extra credit opportunities though and cheat sheets on exams. Just beware of sensitive course content and graphic pictures of birth stuff as she doesn't really put much warning out.
