Karen was an awesome teacher. Very supportive and very knowledgeable. She has a great sense of humour which makes the class that much more fun.

Awesome teacher. Don't be shy and you'll have a lot of fun. Great sense of humour and somehow teaches things so they stick. You just have to go to class and you've got the biz. comm. class wrapped up. Maybe pay attention while you're there too.

Always willing to help. Very fun and wacky. She really likes off the wall movies and uses them as examples. As long as you come to class and have done the readings you will do just fine.

I dont know what I would do without such a great prof. She is so helpful in more than just english. Great sense of humor and knows how to keep the class paying attention. I never thought I would enjoy an english course in my life.

This is a really dry course to be teaching, but Karen make it interesting. She is extremely helpful, but a hard marker on out of class essays and there's a couple essays in this course. This course will pay off in the long run though. It turned around my grammer and essay writing skills completely.

Karen is very helpful with her students. Any student would be lucky to be in her class. She is funny and always make sure the class is not boring.

Karen's so much fun. She has a quirky sense of humor which makes each class a pleasure. (Or at the very least - interesting.) The essays she chooses to review are always interesting and often quite unusual. She's a warm person and very easy to communicate with.

LOTS OF READING. Little note-taking needed, just be absolutely certain to read the books assigned. She is very strict on spelling and grammar and emphasizes the Minimum Standard of Correctness. Available at all times (especially at 2:00AM), always replies to emails. Fun in and outside of class, opinionated. Loves group discussions. Definately take!

Good teacher, very candid and respectful with her classes. Easy going and very approachable. VERY particular when it comes to min. standard of correctness, which I found sort of annoying but I guess it's not her fault, it's the cirriculum. Overall nice lady.

Probably one of the best English teachers I've ever had. She was funny without trying and she explained everything including her expectations extremely well. Going into the class I thought I would hate it because it was critical analytical stuff but she made it interesting. She grows on you overtime.

The novels assigned are a MUST read because she will test you on every single one of them. She is very approachable and very helpful. Every student should take an English course with Karen.

One of my favorite classes I've ever taken at MRU. Karen is an amazing person. She is kind, caring, high energy and she will stop at nothing to help you improve your writing (especially if you email or see her outside class). I looked forward to this class!

I've taken a few classes with Karen and I can definitely say that she's the best prof I've ever had! Quirky, engaging, and really cares about her students. Also a very fair marker...not hard to get an A in her classes.

She talks like the characters from a video game, Portal. Manages to keep the most boring content interesting through humor. Our section graded 3 essays, oral presentation and final exam. She does mark attendance. She is generous marker, but is difficult to get over 85-range (which borders A) unless your paper is close to flawless. Great class.

Karen uses lots of pop culture references to keep the class interesting! Guidelines for assignments are well layed out so you know what is expected of you. WOuld definitely recommend her for English!

Karen is fantastic. She is funny and relates to the students very well. She learns your name right off the bat and doesn't forget it. You don't need to go to class, but you get marks for attendance. Assignments are very well described and she constantly reminds you to get things done. Also, assignments dont get docked marks until after a week late.

This woman is FANTASTIC, I LOVED her class. The only thing that you really need to keep on top of your readings, as it is easy to fall behind and there are group classroom discussions. She is absolutely hilarious, best quote "Babies just aren't very good at surviving things in fiction... except maybe car crashes and dark lords" XD

Karen is a great professor, she makes dull assignments interesting. She has a great sense of humour and is extremely helpful (in and outside of class). She promptly submits grades on Blackboard and uploads tons of extra documents to help you fully understand the material. However, Karen rarely gives grades over 85-90% which can be tough on your GPA

Karen is an incredible teacher. This was by far my favourite class last semester, and that is saying a lot considering it was a night course and I am not fond of english. Karen really wants you to do well and if you put in the effort you will get an A and your writing will improve immensely.

Karen is nice, funny, and approachable. Watch this course; it looks like there are 3 assignments but she puts subparts to them which are really time consuming. FInal is takehome :). Karen gives you 82s even if she has no negative comments on your assignment. Pick her for your English. She talks TOO MUCH but she is funny. Love her.

Karen's AMAZING!!! Taking another class of hers in the fall that I don't even need.. just because she is teaching! So supportive inside and outside of the classroom. Karen is the best, she marks fair, she's hilarious, she's genuinely nice & she makes class enjoyable. She's intelligent though so don't expect to pull a fast one on her or bs your work. She's not a crazy hard marker though so don't mix that up. She'll be there for you if you need help & is very approachable. Would definitely take her again :)

Amazing prof, gives really good feedback and is flexible with deadlines. Gives a lot of room for creativity with the essay topics. She is very opinionated and I don't know how that goes for people with different opinions than her, since her and I generally have the same view on things. Overall, Overbye is awesome!

Took the class thinking it would be fairly easy, just essay writing right? True, but I did not get easy A's. I had to work my butt off for them I felt. But she was incredibly understanding and supportive, the devil's bargain that she offers is great too. Really funny and no surprises at all on the final exam.

Karen always puts in the extra effort - she's still posting publishing suggestions on Blackboard after class has already ended. An incredible woman that I hope to have as a professor again. My only criticism is that... well... I could use more criticism. She almost seemed TOO nice at times, and I could have used harsher feedback for publishing!

Amazing. Very funny and her lectures are interesting. DON'T use your cellphone in class. 3 essays - straightforward. The final was easy enough. The final was 2 parts - 30% was pre prepared and 70% was based on lecture material so don't skip class! Very lenient on due dates. You can hand stuff in a week late with no academic penalty -- LIFE SAVER!!

Karen is always available during her office hours for help. She gives clear instructions. Personally I wasn't doing well in her class but attended student learning services and met Karen for help and passed the final and class with 82%. If I can do it, so can anyone else!

Karen is probably the best professor I've had in all my academic years. In even on semester she improved my writing substantially - and without her I would never have thought to try and publish my work. You're missing out if you don't take a class with her. She really cares about you.

I love Karen! Shes so so sweet and funny. Her lectures are usually great but some were SO BORING (like grammar and essay structure ones). We went over papers or blogs every class and then our final was based off the ones we had done in class so make sure you actually write stuff down about the methods the authors use!!

Karen is a great teacher! She just marks really hard. You don't have to go to her lectures, but just go! cause there are discussions and then those discussions will be on the final exam. Also if you are presenting, go first cause you get extra marks!! I thought her lectures were kind of boring, but shes hilarious which wakes you up! :)

Karen is such a fantastic prof! I did not know what to expect from this class but I learned so many new things and I became much more confident in my writing because of her awesome and helpful feedback. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to do a good job.

I can't say enough about Karen's ability to teach English creatively and with humour. She takes the opportunity in class to challenge her students through participation, group projects, and speed-writing exercises that are shared with the entire class. Our final challenge was to be published by end of term. Finally, in 2017, I'm in Readers Digest.

Karen is great and the class is easy. She goes off on these long story telling rants which seem half made up. It gets really old and you could fall asleep but if you enjoy writing this is the class for you. Her feedback is really great.

Karen is the most caring prof that I have had, she is sweet and hilarious. Will help you outside of class if needed, responds to emails and questions fast. Grades in a fairly time manner and encourages class participation. You will get to know your peers if you have Karen, she is heavy on group work during class time, also takes attendance daily.

Karen was one of my favourite instructors during this past year. The class was very engaging, and she uses modern references to explain certain concepts. I can now write a very good persuasive estay. She also does not count spelling errors for your entire grade. It was not an easy class though. She makes you work for it, but she's an awesome prof!

Had Karen for GNED1401 and honestly, it was fun. She's a nice and caring prof and can be hilarious at times. Grades papers fairly and will let you know where and how you went wrong. You could definitely get away with skipping a few classes, but make sure you catch up on the reading material since it's a writing class.

This is where your writing is put to the test. She's following a very tough rubric where perfection is almost necessary. But she gives good feedback which is useful for the next writing assignments. She answers email super quick and even into the night so if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask. Also, make sure to attend all classes!!

Although sometimes the lecture content can be dry, Karen keeps you entertained with her jokes and stories! She provides excellent feedback on your papers and lets you submit assignments up to 72 hours late (with no feedback). She answers emails very quickly and provides every opportunity to help you to succeed! You need to work for your mark tho

She's very thorough with her feedback (way more than other crwt profs I've had). 4 because I don't like her online class format that much and I wish she did more workshops.

Karen is an amazing prof. This was my second class with her and I will take any class she teaches. She tries to get students to think outside the box and really focuses on issues many of her students face such as queer issues, racialized people, and other modern topics. Amazing time.
