She makes sure you know what your getting into before it's too late. She is also fun to be around.
BEST teacher ever. Karen is so passionate about what she does, she wants everyone in her class to succeed and she does everything she can for each and every student to be successful in her class. I am sooooooo sad that shes not teaching chem 105 next term, I would reccomend Karen to everyone. She is now teaching 200 level chem. She is so down to earth and friendly she will answer any question you have anytime. She even let our class have a make up exam because the class average was a C she is awsome!
Excellent teacher, clear and organized. She's fun loving and easy to talk to and learn from.
Upbeat, positive attitude, organized, nice, knowledgeable, approachable, clear teaching, realistic assignments & labs, very helpful. By far the best chem instructor available. Wish she was teaching CH 105 & 106! We miss you, Karen!
Karen gives her students a recipe to suceed, follow it and there's no way you can get below a B. She goes beyond the call of duty to make sure her student are with her, if its extra office hours or extra scheduled time.... she gives as much to her students as she expects her students give her!!! GREAT PROFESSOR!
Karen was a blast to learn from. Her side comments were enough to keep me entertained throughout the class. Overall, I have a better grasp on chemistry and its mostly thanks to her. Not to mention, she stresses to the max that if you are confused in any way, shape, or form...go see her! She doesn't bite!
For a pregnant teacher, she sure can teach. She uses powerpoint to teacher and does not use the confusing ones provided by the book; she creates her own powerpoint slides which made it easy to understand. I've learned a lot leaving her class. Take her class if you like getting high grades and if you like to learn.
Karen's presence just makes understanding chem easy! She makes sure everyone participates, challenges our reasoning, and understands which parts of the book to skim through. Her grading is challenging compared to the other teachers', but it's worth it! She stays so intune with our attitudes to give us breaks, to explain a little more, etc.
very nice teacher , very understanding of circumstances, clear helpful and alway thier for you !
Wonderful! A great teacher that really cares, I learned so much from her and appreciated her provided powerpoint notes. She makes VERY accurate and complete sample exams, leading to high test scores! If you want to learn chemistry without anxiety, take her!!!!
Great professor, realy down to reality when comparing life to chemistry. i mean a solvent that everyone uses?? huh???? heck if i know.. o water like what karen o coolaid...got cha!! i mean if you listen stand up in class and ask questions then ugot it. Theres not that much ethnic diversity and you get the random stares but stiull GREAT class!!
A really great teacher. Lets you make up exams, explains things very well, maintains a very open environment in class so that everyone can ask even the silliest of questions. She also posts practice exams. I love her, take her if you want a good grade and understanding of chemistry!! She doesn't make a big deal out of things that aren't.
Hands down best chem teacher I've ever had. Makes things incredibly easy to learn, even in the hardest gen. chem class. Very fun lectures and doesn't put you to sleep. Exams aren't hard. Really down to earth and doesn't pretend like she's better than anyone else. Definitely take Karen for general chem or any other sequence you can! She is amazing!
I had Karen for both 221 & 222. She is more than competent and I learned a great deal from her. She comes on a bit strong at the beginning, but don't be intimidated because she is very helpful, fair, and really is passionate about her discipline. Not an elitist bone in her body, and never talks down to you. A real survivor. A+ teacher.
Wonderful teacher! Extremely helpful and does a great job of explaining the subject. Do the homework and come prepared with questions during class and you should do just fine.
she will talk for a very long time on a side track
Good fun, helpful teacher, recommended.
Karen is great lady and a no-nonsense professor. And she is a fun lecturer. Pay attention to what she highlights on the board because you will see those on your exams. She is a 10!!
I just graduated from High school with a C in AP Chemistry. I decided to take General Chemistry again to refresh my memories, and I encountered this lady who makes writing chemical equations seem like writing ABC. She is extremely nice, helpful, and flexible on office hours. I took her for CH221, CH222, and CH223
She is a fun and interesting person, but I have to say she is not a very good or unprofessional teacher. She didn't cover all the chapters we supposed to (we skipped whole 2 and half chapters), no partial credits on exam(one question worth 10, 20 points out of 100). She seemed to have some issues in her life, but it's just too unprofessional.
I had her for CH 221 about a year ago. She's a generous grader at the time; she gave a free checkmark on every lab assignment for full credit. I've heard she no longer does this though, but she's still a great teacher compared to the other chemistry teacher's I've had. I only know one person that didn't like her. I've heard good things from others.
No good
I didn't like Karen very much. She moves to fast through lectures, you barely have enough time to copy off the white board before she erases it to continue writing. She does not give partial credit when grading. its all or nothing! I would strongly recommend a different teacher.
Took her for 221, and she helped me through my first successful chemistry course with a good grade. Took her for 222 and the whole course has been completely disorganized. Labs didn't synch with lectures so I was completely lost the whole time. Will not be taking her for 223 (if I even pass!)
Very clear teaching style, really helps you learn the material. I worked my butt off but it paid off with a high A.
I had NO chemistry prior to taking her 221 class and let me tell you it made no difference. She is a very well spoken funny and informative lecturer. I would recommend Karen to anyone wanting to take a chem class. Best teacher ever!
Karen is a great teacher. She may cover the material quickly and get sidetracked sometimes, but shes very knowledgeable about the subject and has a great sense of humor. I recommend her as a gen chem teacher.
Did not teach redox reaction which she was required to do. I need redox for my next chemistry class. I have to teach myself this summer so I won't be lost in my next term. Waste of time.
Love her, but she is tough. She is a very concise and dynamic speaker, that always relates how prior information builds on new.
Karen's a great teacher. She's very clear in her lectures and has great analogies to help explain concepts, though she does have a tendency to lead off on tangents (releif that is usually much appreciated in a chem. lecture). And she DOES give partial credit on exam questions!!!!
This class can be very hard at times but she gives you every chance to succeed. Always answers emails and is available and willing to help students (even tutoring) on her office hours. She is intelligent and funny and teaches in a way that makes it easy to understand. If I need another chem class she is my first pic for teacher.
Karen is an amazing teacher. She gives the best examples and she extremely knowledgeable. She is hilarious, interesting, dynamic, and very caring. She keeps a very casual and fun learning environment which is much appreciated. If you do your work and have a good attitude, take her class. You will learn a ton but get ready to work like no other :).
Karen is ok, but not great. Her examples & explanations were nothing special. High-strung & very nit-picky. Study guides were changed the day before the test. She assigned a homework problem she said she didn't like, went over it once, refused to review the concept a 2nd time, then put it on 2 tests. I had to teach myself a lot for this class.
Karen is awesome! She is funny and gives the best examples. People should give her a break. She has a life too and can have moods like everyone else. Karen is the best teacher that I have ever had and she is a sassy educator that is intelligent and a very hard worker. She will make you laugh while you learn. Take this lady... she rules!
Really enjoyed the way she taught.
The best chemistry teacher i have ever had. I learned a lot from her class. She is rally good about explaining things to you and wants you to learn. It is possible to get an A.
Maybe was a good once, not now. She cannot get her point across. She is unorganized, always late, not focused, rude, and speaks like U R 12. I think she doesn't like to teach. It shows. Maybe a nice lady, but bad teacher. Should quit. Do somethings else. Learned nothing from her. Should take a class in how to teach.
Karen was tough. The exams were the most challenging I've taken. I felt defeated after each one. Her lectures were entertaining and she taught at a pace respectful of how much the class was understanding the material. Earning an A required a lot of practice doing multiple problem sets in homework, notes, practice exams and attending office hours.
Seriously, I thought she was a joke. She likes to chat and play with her favorite students and I guess that's why some people give her good rates. But, if you evaluate her as a chemistry teacher, she is not good at all. I absolutely learned nothing from the lecture, she refused to take any questions, never around for her office hours.
Karen Radakovich is the BEST chemistry teacher you can hope for - she is intelligent, easy on the eyes (for an older women she's hot!) and has an excellent fun sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed taking her class and she is the ONLY reason I took chemistry through 223 - loved her! Class is still tuf - hard tests and quizzes, u still do work...
I took Karen for a CH100 prerequisite and ended up taking her whole 221-223 chemistry. She was an "Easy A" by any means, she makes you LEARN IT. She is an extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructor. She is very clear about her expectations of her students. She made time for any student and was always available after class. Karen Rocks!
Took her for lab only. She's funny and I learned a lot from her! Will continue taking her lab!
She explains concepts well and is happy to help if you don't understand.
She is a great teacher! She has her quirks but she is aware of them and will quickly make you aware of them too. I found her to be very patient which is helpful for students who struggle. She was in her office during office hours and was always happy to help. She tests on info that is taught during class.
Her lectures are confusing. She is not a good instructor. Take someone else. Exams are very hard.
She was late EVERY single lab by 10 minutes. We received our first lab back in week 5 of a 10 week term. We received our second lab back on week 8 of a 10 week term. The grades were 60% when we actually did the labs but she didn't like the write up. She was absent 3 labs of a 10 week lab. Take someone who cares about students. Bad teacher ruins gpa
I've taken CH 221, 222, 223 from Karen and she's the only person I'd ever take Chem from, she knows this stuff up, down, and sideways. She has research experience and she has aknack for explaining hard topics, she is the best chem teacher at PCC.
Lecture: Karen is organized and makes her expectations clear. Example exams and quizzes are provided; which are usually a copy of the exam from the previous year. Get help during class or office hrs, no email. Hmwk (answers provided by her) 5%, 2 exams=30%, Final 30%, Recitation 15%, lab 20%
Lab: A description is given as to what is expected for each weeks lab write up, in general. At this level with the info given it is expected that you can successfully follow instructions and put together a lab write up. While your notebook can be slightly messy, spelling and grammar should be correct. FOLLOW GUIDE LINES! She is helpful during labs.
Hard, but she knows what she's doing. Practice exams or previous exams don't help with your final exam. They have no correlation what so ever. Really strict and precise with labs.
I honestly cannot stand this woman. She is nit-picky, her exams do not follow her reviews or practice tests and she marks you down for grammar.. (I wrote "thru" on an exam and missed a point for it.) This is chemistry, not english composition. I dropped the class; having her as a teacher and seeing her twice a week was torture.
If you ever want an argument against tenure, Karen is it. There must be a balance of meritocracy or this kind of mediocre teaching will continue.Shame on PCC and the dean of the science department.
PROS: funny, great communication skills CONS: moody, sometimes condescending to students, unreliable, prohibits emails to her address, lesson plan does not correlate with tests, a constant need to remind her to post assignments on myPCC
She's funny, great communication skills. However, at times moody. Sometimes condescending to students, unreliable, while prohibiting emails to her address. Her lesson plan does not correlate with tests. There's a constant need to remind her to post assignments on myPCC.
Very knowledgable, posted previous exams online for studying purposes. Taight the material very well and a great teacher. Downsides are that she doesn't respond to emails very much and expects you to come in to see her in her office that she's in ~!hour a day.
I really enjoyed Karen's class. I was afraid of chemistry, and she has a way of explaining concepts to make them easily understandable. Is always willing to help her students. I took her for the whole 200 sequence and am really glad I did! She made learning chemistry a lot of fun!
Had Karen for whole 200 sequence. Class is intimidating at first, and yes, she is nit-picky, but it pays off in the long run! I enjoyed her openness to questions during lecture about homework, etc. Also, it's hard to be shy in her class! She gets everyone involved, a lot of class activities that lock in concepts. Loved her class!
She comes on strong and lets you know that she has high expectations. Initially very intimidating but, you'll never make it to the moon if you aim for Beaverton. I worked harder for it and learned more. She's fun, knows the material and is respectful to her students. Will take her again next term.
I already have a degree, so I thought this class would be a breeze. I have never studied and prepared as much for any class. In the beginning she seems demanding and harsh, but she is one of the best teachers. She is fair, helpful and you always know how to succeed; you just have to put in the time.
Karen's classes are hard. With that said, she wants students to do well and there is ample opportunity to bring grades up. Her tests are challenging, but fair, and are based on what she has actually covered. Classes are lectures, but she is a very engaging instructor who is good at what she does. As long as you care, she'll keep you on your toes.
I really enjoyed the class, maybe because I'm a chemistry major, but I enjoyed it anyways. We went over all of the examples in class, and she made sure there wasn't any confusion over the topics. She also used a lot of analogies, so apply wisely.
Doesn't use the technical terms that will be on the tests. Uses confusing analogies about dragons, unicorns and popcorn poppers. She is also condescending. Our class fell behind our lab, leaving us unprepared. She told us the uncovered chapter would not be on the test, but there it was. Do not trust this woman with your G.P.A.
Karen is excellent. Yes, her tests are hard and you have to work to earn the grade you want, but it's chem. It's not an easy subject. Karen provides you with EVERYTHING you need to do well. She is very passionate about teaching. People can say she's nitpicky or whatever but, you tell me, wouldn't you rather have clear expectations than none at all?
She's awesome! Gen chem is really easy and basic so it was difficult to stay engaged, but Karen did all she could to keep it interesting. She has a great sense of humor and really blunt. I guess some little babies can't handle that and get their feewings hurt. Huhu. Take Karen! Exams didn't have any surprises. Just come to class and you'll do well.
Beware, the practice material for the exams will NOT be what you will see on the exam. i.e. if she tells you to review particular subject topic(s) that will be on the exam, it will NOT show up. The whole class was very frustrated after every exam. Make sure you study everything, and not listen to her test reviews. Does not convey info well in class
Karen is great. She is engaging and has great real world examples for hard to understand ideas. She is strict in how she wants you to step through problems but if you write it down like she teaches you will do well. In some ways this is much easier than other teachers I have had. You also get to know her as a person and classes are fun.
Karen makes basic chemistry confusing. READ n READ n READ the textbook. Weekly chapter quizzes and the questions are super confusing. If English is your second language, her class is not for you. She is one of those scientists who doesn't know how to explain using common language. Don't take her classes if you don't want to ruin your GPA.
Hate chemistry but love her. She makes it much easier to understand and is very fair. Very enthusiastic about the material and she tries to make it as fun and painless as possible. She is very encouraging and sympathizes with students difficulties. It's still a hard class and a lot of work, but she is top notch.
Karen was very disrespectful, and would go out of her way to intentionally embarrass an individual by calling them out in class, along with treating students like we were children.
(Lab-only, before the 'Rona) Very clear on what to do in lab, but make sure to only ask good questions unless you like being teased. Teaches in a practical and understandable way, not just reciting textbook formulas and calculations. Her humor and personality makes lab time an enjoyable 3 hours... or less if you're a fast worker.
Trust me, don't take her! You will fail miserably or at most get the worst grade of your life. She was the department dean or a chair member for the Science department, so she's an old-school tough grader. The class average was 70% for all her test. You have to live, eat, and breathe chemistry to pass her classes.
During COVID-19: Old school teacher, nice, gives feedback but can seem intimidating. Does not round up or down grades (provides extra credit). Lecture and textbook heavy. Do not get behind in material, you will fail. Detailed lectures. Ask questions! Lab was virtual so it sucked. I recommend her as a teacher if you are great at self discipline.
Loved Karen. She's very straight forward and wants to make sure you are leaning all the content. She will take the time to go over topics that are tougher and the quizzes are super tough, but the exams are easy if you just study the quizzes. There are no surprises in her class and the labs I had in person were fun and interesting.
Karen is exactly what chemistry classes need more of! She gives tons of hilarious examples, lots of practice opportunities and is super patient. If you think you might struggle with chemistry, take Karen! The course is hard, but she helps with understanding at every step. 10/10, best chem prof ever and lectures were actually fun and enjoyable!
Karen is so nice, her grading is very fair and she goes above and beyond with her class lectures and her videos that she makes for her students without it being mandatory is so nice of her. I took her first in person lab from the pandemic and Karen knows how to take a tough subject and make it easy to learn. Thank you again Karen if you read this!
Would absolutely take again. Very well organized, clear instructions on what reading is to be done on what days. Actually knows how to use D2L efficiently. Great explanations of concepts. Very accessible and caring, also great sense of humor. Deserves a raise and a medal. Wish I could take my ochem series with her. God Bless this absolute angel.
I've taken Karen's general chemistry 221,222,223 in series. Absolutely an amazing teacher, so caring and understanding. Watching lectures before classes are recommended, but ACTUALLY going to classes are much highly recommended. She explains the concepts we learned from the lecture again in class. Relatively easy grader, such a great professor!!!

I've taken Karen's general chemistry 221,222,223 in series. Absolutely a fantastic teacher, so caring and understanding. Chem223 was relatively hard compared to 221 & 222, but I could pass thanks to Karen. She has the special ability to easily explain complicated concepts in visualized ways. I'd love to take Org chem with Karen if she teaches :)
Overall, Karen has been a great professor so far. She takes time to answer any questions fully, clearly shows that she wants you to do great in the class, and highlights what she expects from you on exams. However, I would take time to understand how much work you can do at the start of the term and watch the lectures!
I've taken the entire General Chemistry Sequence (Ch 221, 222, and 223) with Karen, and I can confidently say that she was one of the best professors I've ever had at PCC. She's incredibly caring, really knows her subject, and her lectures and interactive and helps to understand chemistry topics in a practical sense. Very easy to recommend her.
I took the whole series with her, and she's by far my favorite teacher I've ever had. She does a flipped model; recorded lectures you watch at home, then homework in class together so you can ask the questions as they come up. The tests can be difficult, but she always gives several practice tests that sometimes are verbatim the actual test. 100/10
I had a great time taking Karen in the fall. She does a good job making a connection with all her students and tries to make sure everyone does well in her class. If you watch the lectures and do the work you will do fine. The tests are fair and the office hours/extra class she holds before the exams are super helpful she tells you most of the test
Tough grader, makes you watch online videos as a lecture. Unclear feedback, or none at all, say you get a test back, you only know where you made a mistake, and not what you did wrong. Sometimes she gives chances to retake a quiz, but not to everyone.
She has high expectations but her criteria is very clear. The class pacing is excellent, and there are more than enough resources to be successful. I plan on taking the whole Chem 22x series with her.
Karen is well versed in chemistry, The issue is that I see a lack of emotional awareness. Its harsh and hurtful, the way she talks to you if you're a slightly slower learner like I am. She makes you feel bad and it's just overall a painful experience. Im constantly hurt by her comments but I endure it for the sake of the credit. Kindness is free:(
she's not nice all the time :) generally she is, but often with me at least, she'd talk me down in a condescending way as if i was a 5th grader who was incompetent. i got scared to ask her questions or approach her for help at one point so i avoided talking to her as much as possible. other than that, she's fine and a good teacher.
While taking her class, she actually piss me off a lot. her teaching style is just frustrating due to her having students come up to the board or call on them when they don't know the answer to the questions, which is humiliating to me if I got the answer wrong. She can be extremely rude and difficult but is nice sometimes.
Karen is the best professor I've had at PCC (and even compared to the ones I've had at PSU). She has weekly office hours and will help walk students through any questions they may have. I received a D on the first midterm, attended office hours every week, and earned a 92 on the second midterm, ultimately finishing the class with an A.
