I have no idea why ANYONE would say she is awful. Get some sense. She in very clear and always willing to help those who need it. She's very nice which makes her extremely approachable.

Mrs. Richie is a great teacher very clear, pretty easy class if you do the work.

Excellent teacher. Very clear on everything and willing to help. You learn a lot but she doesn't make the class hard. You will have to read a paper in front of the class, so if thats a downfall- find a different teacher. She hates to see people fail so she willing help people in trouble. Highly reccommended teacher!

Great teacher! If you do the work, there is no reason not to have a 4.0. She wants students to learn and more than willing to help. Your effort in the essays seem more important than the quality.

I cannot understand why anyone would say she didn't respond. If you sent the e-mail to her, she responded right away. I think someone just didn't get a very good grade. You have to keep up with the work in the class, and if you do that, you'll do well. Ask her questions, and she'll respond and give you all of the information you need.

I had Mrs. Richie for my on-line class and she responded right away to my questions. I think some students simply waited to ask until it was too late. Keep up with the work. She is great.

Great instructor. I took Comp. 2 online for 8 weeks. There was a lot of work however, I committed myself to 2-3 hours a day for reading, writing, responding, etc. English is not my stongest subject so I was scared to take this class. Professor Richie was clear, fair and answered my questions quickly. Excellent class and I would 100% recommend her!

Professor Richie was great. She was very clear of what she expected. She responded quickly to all questions. She provided good feedback with papers. As long as you do the work in a timely fashion, this class is a piece of cake. I think she was very fair and liberal with her grading. I wouldn't understand how anyone couldn't pass her class.

Mrs. Richie was great. She made a lot of comments on papers and really helped me when I needed it on my research paper. Her comments on my rough draft were more than a page long and I was able to make the changes and learn how to cforrectly write.

Great Teaching Ablity

Pretty good professor. She told us exactly what she wanted and replied on time. We read alot of poems, short fictions and dramas in that class. She is fair at grading, but when gradeing final essay, she is crucial. She is very picky when it comes to final essays. Overall, nice class.

Great professor who you can tell really enjoys her job and loves teaching it. She's very outgoing and engages the class uniquely in a way that you might feel uncomfortable at first. This Instructor is the best I've had! I've taken English classes numerous times and no instructor has had the patience or helpful insight as Instructor Richie. SHe is very kind and willing to help you understand. Doesn't assign busy work or too much hw- very realistic assignments even for the advanced online classes! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!!!

An excellent instructor! She chose very interesting reading assignments. There was a lot of writing assigned to the class but it was an 8 week accelerated online class so I expected it. If you are capable of writing, turn in your assignments on time and don't plagiarize you should be well able to pull an A in this class. I highly recommend her.

I took this online. Due to the short semester, there is a lot of work over the eight weeks: postings, comments on others' work, three essays, ans a big research paper.

she was a great teacher, very joyful to be around. she would help you if you were not able to attend class for a specific reason. she let you retake any quiz and also redo two papers. she is overall a wonderful postive teacher. id recomend her to anyone! :)

This was a hard class. It was a big workload. She required 5 days out of 7 in the week actual posts for this online class. Too stringent on grading. This is my subject and I found it tough.

SHE TALKS WAY TO MUCH BUT VERY EASY CLASS

English is not my strongest subject, so why I took english online is beyond me. However, Professor Richie was awesome! It is not a hard amount of work that she asks from you and the stories you read are interesting. I am about a b-c average when it comes to english grades and I received my first A in this class. I would highly recommend her!

Pretty good teacher, I took it online and her feedback was helpful. Not a bad workload, other than the final paper which is 5-6 pages and you have to have 6 sources, which can be difficult for a paper about a fictional story. Pretty good class altogether, I would recommend her.

Ms. Richie is a very good professor. She seems to have done a lot of online classes before and I had no problem with any of the homework. She doesn't respond to emails 5 minutes after you send them so make sure that you do it before the due date of something. I would have her again as a professor!

Richie is nice, but I will warn you right now taking her class is no walk in the park. You will be hitting the book day in and day out. Make sure your course load isn't too crazy because this class should almost be treated as two classes the way she teaches it. But she is very clear and is a good professor

I took this class online so i do not know the professor but she seemed very nice and helpful. I would not take this class online as it is harder to do the work since you are not in class. There is a lot of work but it is not too hard, and she grades very fairly.

Ms Richie is the best teacher I have had in a long time. I never cared for this subject until I had her. If you try you you can't fail. You can rewrite two papers and retake quizzes. If you don't pass, then you didn't even try. I would suggest her to everyone!!!

Lots of writing in this class. Learned more from the books than her lecture docs. She tells you OFTEN to not plagiarize. I was paranoid that I would accidentally say something the same way as someone else. But I guess it all worked out. lol Keep up with the weekly assignments, like research. You will NOT be able to catch up.

She is a great english teacher. I have learned a lot from her class. She gives a very useful feedback on papers. You will have 3 opportunities to rewrite your paper. Moreover, you can retake any exam 2 times till you get better grade. I loved her class, and I wish that she teaches ENGL 1190.

Wasn't the easiest class. Have to put in a decent amount of work for papers. Discussions every week graded for participation. Gives feedback, but isn't always clear. Very easy to contact if need be. Research paper is about 50% of grade. Make sure to turn in rough draft so she will edit before paper is due. Overall good class and I would recommend.

Very tough grader! She knows what she wants out of your papers. Online class was a LOT of reading. 3 papers and 1 research paper. discussion questions for participation each week, a must. Research paper is long and a HUGE chunk of your grade, 300pts. She is easy to contact, pretty clear. A lot of work in 8 weeks. Took with 2 other classes, got A-

I'm finishing my semester with her right now and I absolutely love her! she keeps class fun and upbeat, she is VERY clear on what she expects from us and as long as you come to class you will pass. it would be harder to fail her class then to pass. Highly recommend her!!!

I took Karen Richie's class online, but she was very straight forward in what she wanted. You do need to read every week and need the text. If you work hard she will respect that and do what it takes to help you pass. She is also a pretty easy grader. Would definitely recommend this professor.

not over exaggerating when I say shes an amazing professor. you have a certain amount of essays for the semester and you have about 3 weeks to do them each, she also lets you rewrite one of your choice for a better grade, and lets you retake the test. shes very caring and funny, and made waking up for my 8am bearable. highly recommend taking her!!!

Prof. Richie is one of my favorite professors at MCC. She's easy-going and welcoming. I enjoyed going to her class! You'll make friends because she assigns in class group work. She was an outstanding professor!! I had an issue with Macomb's online site regarding a submission, and she was super understanding about it. Take advantage of any rough drafts that come up, she gives very detailed feedback. Reading the assigned literature, sourcing properly and avoiding plagiarizing A. Online course was also organized very well.

Wow, may I just say, I am so happy that I was able to have this professor for my first semester of college. She is such a gem. She makes everything super simple and tells you exactly what she requires on all of her essays and quizzes. She allows you to retype 2 papers and you have an option to redo quizzes. Easy A!!!

Took this online. Seemed like a lot of work, but wasn't really. Lots of reading after you get through the poem section which is like the first week or two. I misunderstood the directions on multiple occasions and she let me redo the parts that I did wrong. Did not grade nearly as hard as I expected her to. Very clear direction and very nice.

Professor Richie provided many ways to reach out and give opportunities to each student. She was kind, respectful, and clear. Her lectures were filled with valuable information that I now carry with me every day. I would take her a million times (if she had taught every kind of class!). Worth your every minute!

Professor Richie was my absolute favorite English professor, she had such a positive attitude everyday. She grades your essays throughly before your final copy, also other students in class proof read them as well. You can rewrite I believe (up to two) essays, and you also can retake tests. Great English professor! She gives good feedback on essays an hour after you turn them in. The final paper has an option for a rough draft that you can turn in and she can give feedback. I didn't do that and got an A on my final paper. The final is a lot of work so don't start it 3 days before it's due. Best English class I have taken!

Prof Richie was very nice. She was always willing to help you out if you needed it. Her attendance policy was a bit strict, so make sure you are healthy! If you miss more than 3 sessions, your grade went down a letter grade. Also, you have to read one of your papers in front of the class which makes it hard to write about personal topics.

This class is very fair. There are a lost of papers and you don't have that much time to do them. However, you always turn your rough draft and she always reads them and gives feedback. There are only a few quizzes, but you get to retake all of them. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Professor Richie is great for online classes. The weekly expectations are posted promptly on Mondays and give you plenty of time to plan out your week. Writing rubric is clear, and the discussion participation points are easy buffers for your grade. HIGHLY recommended, would take again!

Professor Richie is the best English 1180 professor that you could have. She is TOO funny and she goes out of her way to make sure everyone understands the material. She grades easy and always has a smile on her face. She is always in her office at her office hours and her door is always open if you need English help, or just someone to talk to.

Pretty easy class and workload. I took the online 8 week course and didn't stress about it. There are 3 practice quizzes the week before the real graded quizzes. Also, you get a week to write a thesis and the professor checks it before you start your essay. 100% recommend.

Eng 1180 was my first canvas class and I didn't know what to expect. However, Prof. Richie was the right choice for me. She is very helpful and a fair grader. I had Dr. Richie for English 1180 online. Her class was straightforward, she gave great examples, and offered alot of resources to help teach what we were learning. Professor Richie was an all-around good instructor. Pretty lenient grader, and always made sure to give feedback on each of the four assigned essays. gave students the opportunity to rewrite an essay, which I found very thoughtful. The only complaint I can think of is that she never answered my email.

Take English online with her!! So worth the 4 credits in 8 weeks. Only assignments are 1 intro paper, 4 essays including final, & like 3 super easy grammar quizzes & easy weekly discussions. Some textbook use for discussions. She responds to emails quickly & is literally the fairest grader who gives encouraging feedback on essays. Loved this class!

I took this online class in summer and received a good grade. You just need to study and understand the assignment. 1 short intro then 4 essays, 3 quizzes, and discussion question to answer that's it. This professor was admirable. Take her!

She is super nice. You are allowed to redo one essay out of the 5. She gives easy work and half the time you only have 1-2 assignments per week sometimes 3 if there's a quiz or an essay.

This class is very well organized. Professor Richie is very quick to reply to your emails. Each week there is a discussion question, and every two weeks your paper is due. There are three short quizzes, and three ungraded practice quizzes. Very manageable. Professor Richie gives good feedback, and you have the opportunity to rewrite one essay!

Great class taught by a great professor. Readings were all very interesting. Professor Richie requires a discussion forum with responses each week, occasional reading quizzes, two papers and one research paper at the end of the term. She breaks all of the papers down by steps. She also gives great feedback to improve on and is a fair grader.
