Scatter-brained and gives a lot of notes. Exams are tough but she offers Extra Credit and you should definately take it. I am not a fan of hers but I would take her again.
Thought I would take geography for an nice easygoing elective course. Went to class the first day, read the syllabus, saw a dumpster load of work would be required, listened to her fruity nut cake caffeine crazed lecture, and dropped the course. My recommendation: Buy a map instead.
Fun, but disappointing from some cases. Lots of material to cover. Census really gets annoying. Bit poor with programs & computers. Computers were a pain during the time. But very interesting course. Topography and stuff.
odd lady, n the class is boring. she will never let u out early and its a lot of work more then any of my other classes. but if u do all the assignments u'll get and A .... oh n theres a lot of reading
Crazy, and boring. Gives tons of reading/busy work. Stupid group work/projects. I haven't learned a thing in the class because we talk about the same stuff every week. I would never take her again, ever, and you shouldn't either.
She is so funny! Her stories always have us cracking up. She gives u one assignment a week. Some people think its busy work, but if you do it,u get an A & it helps ur grade. Great reviews for the tests, she gives extra credit too! Will def. take again! She makes a class like geography very fun!
Yeah she gives assignments due once a week but they'rea easy and if you do them you automatically get an A. Plus, they aren't exactly hard, basically H.S. type stuff. Don't have to do the readings cause she gives notes. Study somewhat for tests and you'll do fine. Easy B+, A grade.
boring. don't take the 3 hour class. gives lots of busy work and lots of group time in class, but it's mostly easy if you just do it. no need to read the book. field trips for the tourism class were cool.
I had her for a grad course in Urban History. Great class and a wonderful teacher. She knew her material inside out and presented everything in a discussion format. One or two students started the evening with an overview of the book and then a group di
Eww worst professor ever! I dropped her after the first class bc she was such an idiot. Kept us the entire 3 hour class and made us watch a movie on the friggin Amish. She is so boring and stupid and it says we aren't allowed to take a bathroom break in a 3 hour class.. what is this 2nd grade?
Gives A LOT of work, but if you do it..A++ without a doubt. She is definitely crazy, though, and she will definitely make you laugh..I like her a lot and would reccommend her to anyone, I love her quirkiness, she's so crazy!!!!
She ok
She's a very nice person and helped me out a lot. She gives a lot of work but she grades really easy.
Please do yourself a favor and drop this class immediately. She is so unclear,so uninteresting, and so demanding. She never explained anything. For the grade of an “A” in total I wrote about thirty pages of “busywork.” No one has time to sit in a class with a woman who has clearly lost her touch for teaching.
I like her alot. I learned alot in her class and most people who take her class really like her. I asked alot of other people about her before I took her class and most people all like her, not just because she is easy. I guess they just don't rate their professors. I think I will take another class with her.
I learned alot from her and thought she was ok
I took her before and she was okay but this semester she is great. I heard she used to be the greatest teacher and then burned out and now she seems like she is getting her game back again quickly. She is much more organized and gives great examples. Glad I gave her another chance.
I really liked this class. I think she really knows her stuff and was interesting. I just hope she doesn't kill us with the final exam
I learned alot but like the other person, I hope she goes easy on us. SHe is funny, smart
The workload in her course this semester was excessive: there was a major project due almost every week. The work was easy, but there was just so much of it! Exam questions could have been clearer as well. She refers to models by author's name, rather than model name, which is confusing. She is a fair grader and provides extra help if needed.
She was great, but most of the students were total crap. Lots of work but I learned it
this class is out of control she gives you soooo much work for a 100 level course it is crazy i hated it and really didnt learn that much either biggest waste of time she gave more homework then my 400 level classes
She is extremely helpful and gives lot of extra credit. She is pretty funny. At first she gave a lot of work but then she did not give us nearly as much which was nice. Talks about her hometown a lot.
I liked the class. It was interesting but a bit disorganized. I hated the textbook and appreciate the fact that she gave us other reading instead of it. She is fun and smart. Next time, she needs to get a better book
Took class online. Never actually met her in person. I would take an online class again. Not hard at all. A few postings a week and if you put in some effort to the class, and do all the work you should wind up with a good grade.
I took her for an intro class (GO101), what I got was a 300 level. When I say this I do not mean to say the class was hard, but It was definetely time consuming and monotonous. She gives out WAY too many mundane assignments that are simply fill-in-the blank, copy n' paste type things. It is kinda offensive that she is teaching like this in college.
I liked the class. Hard, but interesting and what I think college is about. I liked the assignments she gave--I know she used a book last year that everyone hated, and this time it was better because she gave us assignments.
I really liked the class. It was interesting and she is really smart. She made us really care about the fact that tourism is so important-- and most of us only took it as a gen ed course. A bunch of us are now in her intro to human geog course this semester
SHE IS A TROLL. DO NOT TAKE HER. GIVES HOURS OF POINTLESS HOMEWORK, GIVES A QUIZ EVERY CLASS, AND YOU HAVE TO STUDY FOR HOURS FOR THE EXAMS. VERY BORING CLASS. DO NOT TAKE HER. SERIOUSLY.
I have taken two courses with her and really like her. She had to give the quiz because no one did the readings. Jeez, most of the kids I know love her, but maybe that is because we worked hard.
I like her AND HER class too. I am halfway through and am excited about the rest of it. She is better at teaching without Powerpoint and is better at explaining stuff than reading the book. I am taking another class with her in the fall
Extremely informative. If your stupid or lazy, dont bother. Definately a lot of work, though its easy. You learn a lot of real-world stuff.
Awesome class. Glad I took it
Loved her, loved the class, learned stuff and thought it was just going to be a fluff course
Was really surprised, loved the course and had expected to hate it. She is funny but more low-key than I remember from two years ago. I even learned stuff
Dr.S. is one of the best professors I've had at Monmouth. The courses Ive had her for r very interesting(Tourism Around the World & History of the American City). She really knows her stuff & shows lots of photos and clips. She helps out if you ever need it.HW can be a little mundane, but Ive never had to take an exam in her class, theyre all take-home.
This was by far the most time consuming 100-level class I have ever taken. Most weeks I had more work to complete for this one class than two or three others combined. Recommended only for anthro majors with a strong interest in the material. She is, however, both approachable and helpful.
She is the best! I've had 3 classes with her and every one has been great, even online. There is a lot of work, so you have to be willing to put in the time and effort, but you will get a lot out of her classes. She's extremely helpful and a lot of fun.
GOOD AND HELPFUL BUT SHE ACTS LIKE HER CLASS IS THE ONLY ONE YOU ARE TAKING...TOO MUCH WORK
Dr. S is a really great, knowledgeable professor who really cares about her students and her classes. I had her for Intro to Geog. (fun & easy) and for Tourism Around the World (sooo much work!!) I definitely recommend her as a professor, but the beware of her tourism class, as it is very work intensive (more than my upper level classes).
Great teacher, great tourism class. Would highly recommend taking it. Learned a lot and found the class enjoyable!! Excellent!
Great tourism class, would highly recommend it! Dr. S is a great teacher and kept class interesting and fun. I would highly recommend this class and Dr. S!
Took this class online, RIDICULOUS amounts of work. Found the work load unnecessary. Class is interesting, I wish I took it in person. Would not advise taking this class unless you have loads and loads of free time to do the horrible assignments.
Dr. S is a great professor! Yes, the workload is heavy, but welcome to college! She is very approachable and she really cares about her students. Do your work, show up to class, and you'll do fine. She is one of those professors you could stay in contact with after you've graduated.
Professor was not very helpful. Her materials were all from previous semesters, which included wrong dates galore, which was a problem when her final project was due a week after her semester ended. She was not organized at all. Gave everyone the same grade with very little feedback. Very bad experience with this class.
Very helpful professor. A semi-large workload, but it forces you to learn and keep up. Extremely easy to get along with and helpful to understanding material. Insightful. Recommend her for any urban history class or tourism.
I took this class as a general ed requirement in my senior year and it is the heaviest workload out of all my classes. Professor is EXTREMELY unorganized, changes assignments constantly, and is never prepared for class. Makes you do tons of work and then never goes over it. Makes you buy the book and you never use it. HORRIBLE. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Save yourself the time and agony and do not take her. Completely unorganized and gives unclear directions. This should not be a level 100 class and I'm surprised it is.
I like her as a teacher. I agree she changes assignments but it seems like she adjusted to the interest of the class.
I like her class a lot. She is a really good teacher although we never used the textbook. It is very interesting and she
Dr. S is a good prof and i would recommend her. All you have to do is go over chapters before quiz and the power points she emails to you and you will be fine. There is a lot of work but the work is not hard and it is a big part of your grade so it works out. I liked her so much I am taking her Tourism Around the world class next semester!
She is extremely nice and helpful. The only issue I had with her is her lack of organization. She decided to add additional material without officially going over what she required. This was an easy class but I think she needs to be more organized.
Dr. S is very helpful and understanding of student situations. She takes her students' opinions into account when organizing the material and her sense of humor keeps you on edge. I loved her and would take this class again.
The workload for this class (a 100 level course) was higher than all of my 200 and 300 level courses combined. Do not take this course unless you have at least 6 hours a week to do homework. Assigns and grades homework based on chapters she hasn't taught in class yet. Lessons were never organized, consisted of her talking and usually went over time
Dr. S is by far the worst professor I have had at MU. Her class was extremely unorganized, and she was never prepared for class and barely knew what she was lecturing about. She changed assignments every week and pretty much made them up as she was explaining them. I would not recommend her for any class. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DON'T TAKE HER!
Do not take her if you are looking for an easy grade for an elective. This class had the most work out of any class I have taken in my 4 years of college. Very unorganized. She switched up assignments weekly. If you miss one class she will lower your grade even though my car had broken down and could not make it to class. Do no take her
I took this class to fill the GU requirement, and now I wish I never would have taken this class in a lifetime. She's horribly disorganized, she grades on material we are supposed to recall from weeks ago, such as a few definitions from a 30 page reading she assigned, and she will fail you if you don't participate. Do NOT take her for ANY reason.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS She is absolutely out of control and assigns more homework and readings than the length of an Encyclopedia. If you get an A on every homework, project, and test, but don't participate enough to her standard you can receive a C in the class!
She was very nice and if you asked for help, she'd help you. However, she was very unorganized. She would randomly assign things not on the syllabus as everybody was leaving the class. You'd come in the next class and not have your assignment completed because you didn't know about it. Overall unorganized. Too much work for a class not in my major
This lady is the worst teacher I've ever had throughout my entire school career. This was a 101 level class taken as a Gen Ed requirement, and she assigned more work that my computer science and physics classes. She lectures past the class every time about useless material. I have some social anxiety and still participated, yet I got a C.
Don't go into this class expecting to do nothing. You have homework assignments every other week, and quizzes on readings and maps basically every time you meet. She's actually an easy grader, but she's all over the place when she teaches. Very little organization. Online midterm and final. It's possible to get an A, but the classes are a drag.
This woman is all over the place. Does not follow the syllabus at all. Assigns a million projects and none of them end up getting graded. Posts long readings that have nothing to do with the lectures. Keeps you to the last second or after class was supposed to end. Quiz questions are unclear. Week 12 and the syllabus is still being changed. Avoid!!
At the end of the day, she's truly a nice person. However if you like organization don't take this class. Not one week was what the syllabus said it'd be. Homework is long but she alters it towards what the class likes best. Definitely time consuming work though.
Hey, I liked her a lot. What the heck. She is smart and tries to listen to both sides. I learned a lot.
She was awesome. She had to work hard to deal with some political differences but she did it. And she was caring. I actually learned so much. She could be more organized but I think that was what she tried to do. Everybody know who is smart who takes her thinks she is amazing.
I ended up doing much better in this class than I thought I would. She is a tough grader, assigns a lot of homework, and is very unorganized. Tests will leave you stressing but you will do better than you thought you would. Participation matters in this class and will hurt your grade if you do not participate. Not the best but also not the worst.
Comes up with random assignments off the top of her head with no rubric, no method to how she grades. Cannot stay on a topic for more than five minutes without getting sidetracked. Confuses herself often. Makes it seem like she's lenient with attendance but she's not. Switch if you can
10 weeks went to physical geography before she gave up and assigned us group projects to teach the rest of the course. Frequently talked down on students, abandoned the syllabus early on, and changed our final up until the exam period. She confuses herself and gives unclear instructions to the class, and then doesn't answer emails.
She had to deal with some heavy stuff this semester and there were people there who definitely opposed her politically and gave her bad reviews. But she handled it. Needs to organize and not change midway to try to cater to the complainers. She is smart, and the smart people love her classes. What can I say. I love her classes. haha
She was a super nice lady and you could tell she was passionate about the material, but her train of thought was going in a million different directions and I always felt like I walked out of the class with less brain cells than I started with. I'm about to take her midterm and I'm fully ready to tank it. Good luck to you if you take her class!
She is so nice but she's a little too old to be teaching to be honest. She is extremely unorganized with random little assignments. Like shell make you dropbox a paragraph about tsunamis. Her assignments are a piece of cake . You can get every hw assignment done in one day but gets really off topic and really everywhere. Avoid if possible
Unorganized class, she abandons the syllabus week 2. She tries to change assignment requirements and dates through numerous emails (that are always confusing due to bad grammar and misspelling). She doesnt know how to run the class and has the students teach half of the class through presentations. She also had us do tons of hw and write reflection
She is great. She just wants everyone to succeed. She is old and oblivious but her class and work is easy. Take home final. I would take her again.
She is really kind and caring, and very knowledgable in the material. Sometimes unclear with what was due when, and added assignments to the syllabus which got confusing.
I was disappointed w/ Dr. S. She often assigned work not in the syllabus & confused herself w/ assignments & w/ students' preferences. Little follow-through. Midterm included uncovered content. I wrote more in this class than in any other even though it wasn't a WT course. She was usually late & even missed a class because she forgot the schedule.
This class was CONFUSING! Dr. S is a very nice professor, but this class was a lot. The class was all over the place. We didn't know what was going on half the time. We did online quizzes, but you needed the book and Quizlet. The quizzes were hard and the class lectures didn't help. I enjoyed the class but it was a lot. She is fair with grading.
She is very sweet but EXTREMELY disorganized. There are links and assignments so many different different places. Very confusing. Dropping the class right now. peace out Karen <3
Expect do to tons of pointless homework with zero substance or purpose. She is extremely unorganized and is not fit to be a professor in any way. Also expect to teach yourself basically everything because she cannot be bothered with having to do it herself. Do yourself a favor and avoid this professor.
She can very nice and responsive but if you are someone who cannot handle a disorganized class, do not take her classes. She often changes instructions/assignments at the last minute and can be very confusing in the way she teaches. Sometimes makes rude comments that she claims are 'jokes'. A lot of unnecessary assignments that have no purpose.
Singlehandedly the most disorganized class I have ever taken. Plans are changed hours before class. Email spam with changes to the final. Incredibly stressful and annoying. Endless amounts of useless boring homework that'll make you feel like you're in high school again. Multiple due dates every week. Do NOT take this class, you will regret it.
I have never met anyone more disorganized than Karen. She sends out millions of confusing emails throughout the week.
She should not be qualified to teach in a college classroom. She is an absolute disorganized mess, assignments are not even relating to Geography, had a huge final, and assigned weekly quizzes unrelated to the class. Other courses can satisfy these Gen Ed requirements, I'd recommend taking CS-104 and PS-102 w/ Dr. Mitchell or Dr. Maynard instead.
Not sure why so much negativity toward her. I took a zoom class, though, with her, and it was not that good. But in the classroom, she was able to present information in an interesting way. I agree, confusing, but I actually learned a lot from her.
This teacher has just been a pain since day 1, assigning more than 3 assignments due every Monday of every week. She has 0 ideas what she is doing in the class and dumps load after load of work onto you with no regard to the classes you are already taking. It is very boring too, not worth the money or time. Please save your mental fortitude.
There was a lot of work in this class. It ended up being hybrid with weekly assignments that were long and often had unclear instructions. There are weekly quizzes and discussion posts as well as additional assignments on top of the regular weekly assignments when class was cancelled every other week. Was so unorganized it was awful.
She was a good professor and knew most of her material but lectures were very long.
She's clueless during lectures. She also doesn't allow students to use the restroom during class, cannot have any electronics out, and never finishes any sentence she begins. In the beginning of the class I thought it would get better, but it only got worse. The class started with 35 and ended with maybe 20...that should tell you enough.
She is nice online but very opinionated in class-- basically tells you off for no reason or looks for things to criticize you on. The workload online is much more lenient than in person.
When she is good she is great. She has a lot of information. She needs more people to participate. She can be really funny, and cares a lot. Not that tough of a grader. I learned so much The smart kids love her but they don't post as much as people who don't like the professor.
This is the first class I took with Dr. S in Fall 2022. Introduction to Urbanization, focused on the US. I thought it was a great class. I could have done with a bit more organization, but she has all sorts of interesting examples. We did group projects on Asbury Park which was great. She is a good teacher, interesting and knows the material
I took an online class this summer. I learned so much. The assignments were actually fun although hard and the discussion questions taught us and the way she handled AI was creative, We gathered data, did simulations, then wrote up answers. Then fed all of it to AI and critiqued the answers. She interacted in such fun ways with us.
