very good teacher, always puntual and returns papers back on time, good class, she kept it very interesting because she talks about her personal life a lot.
Great teacher. Material is clear and class was a blast. She keeps it very interesting by talking about the family and she is very cute.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! I was NOT interested in group communication whatsoever, but found myself loving it a couple weeks into the semester. She is so sweet, funny, and helpful... I don't think anyone could possibly walk out of her class without loving it. Take her, take her, take her!!!
She is awesome, I loved her class. Her class is intesting and the stories about her kids make the time pass fast. Take her
LOVE HER!! She is a good teacher. Tells a lot of funny stories but they are relevant to the subject and help you learn. I had her for a Saturday morning class and didn't think I'll like it. But ended up looking forward to her class on Saturday mornings!!
All I can say is that she is an excellent instructor. An Easy "A" but you will learn alot from her and have fun. Interesting life stories. All tests are from the lectures and the book.
she is a really funny, active, and very attractive for a teacher...lol. Nevertheless, she is a good teacher which keep classes very interested. I have her for saturday mornings and I seem earger to go to class...lol.
Prof. Swett is a great instructor and very helpful. Her examples are all clear and she uses her own life and family exapmles and experiences. Overall she has a very fair grading system and the class is fun. She is very energetic and funny. I learned a lot from her.
she is a great professor. Her class is fun and interesting.
Love her class...Loved her... hated readings and quizes.
Prof. Swett is a nice lady who is always in a good mood. Obviously this class has a lot of group work, which sucks, but it turns out not to be that bad. Her 2 tests are m.c. but kind of tricky. 2 papers as well as 'reading quizes' and attendance checks. Overall class turned out not to be that bad and was interesting sometimes.
Karen is an excellent teacher. She has lots of example stories and knows her material. She makes an effort at learning everyone's names and encourages class participations and questions. Very enthusiastic, very sweet, very pretty. This was my most fun class in CSUN.
Karen is a excellent teacher. She gives lots of example stories and knows her material. She makes an effort at learning everyone's names and loves class participations and questions. She is very nice, sweete, have to say cute also, you will learn from her, took her at pierce college when I was still there, I really liked the class after having her.
She is a total class act who truly loves teaching and it shows in her lectures. It's interesting, it's insightful, and if you show up to class regularly, it's pretty easy as well.
Expect to be treated like a High School student. She is a High School style teacher. Unorganized and Unprofessional! She is funny but you can go to a comedy show for that. Grades are very risky and based on LUCK due to your group members and NO GROUP RULES. NOT recomended for 4.0 GPA students.
Very funny and cool prof. She is disorganized some ways and is a hard grader on the papers. Final and midterm mulitple choice test is hard. Not an easy A.
I got an "A" in the class. Her tests are tricky, and some questions seem subjective. Hard to take with Bus 302--too much group work between both classes. Very nice and funny though.
Very nice teacher but hard grader. Make sure you study for tests, take good notes. If projects are creative you will get good grade. Make sure to pick people you can work with for group project otherwise it will be hard. Don't be fooled, thinking this is an easy "A" class/teacher.
She loves teaching and knows her stuff. Not an easy A unless you have a creative group to do projects. Very entertaining teacher though.

Too much work!...make sure you pick the right group or your grade will suffer, her tests are very tricky!..too much work for a 3 unit class.
Lecture is interesting but she requires a LOT of work. You must be creative in your presentations. She will not get involved in group altercations...she makes you resolve any and all problems that come up in the group.
She is a great professor! It was my favorite class all semester, but like everyone else said it's a lot of work. Midterm, final, 2 analysis papers, reading quizzes, a proposal, and presentation. But definitely worth it, I learned a lot from the class and loved it! Take her!

well, i guess it wasn't soo bad after all. the creativity requirement is kind of a drag but i guess it's there to force us to make decisions during the 4 stages of group development. well, i guess i did learn something. plus she's kinda hot. not that that matters.
Took her for PACE. Very demanding but was actually a fun course. Get into a good group! That's your key! Midterm and Final were the hardest as her MC questions are tricky. MUST BE CREATIVE when doing presentation, or else.....
she's a nice professor. her lectures are very interesting. she speaks more about her family. she's very helpful. there are two essays and she allows to rewrite. exams are tricky, but easy if you study.
Enroll and Learn! Prof Swett is one of the best professors I've seen. She is knowledgeable, clear, can read students well, FUN, and fair. Gives CONSTANT feedback, that's the key! I wish all professors at CSUN did that...imagine we could actually learn, isn't that what's all about? Great job prof Swett!!!
If you want a good grade, do a kiss ass project. An example would be, cheer up people at a convalescent home. DO NOT HAVE FUN!!!!! Unfortunately all business students have to take this waste of time class. You will learn lots about her family (yawn, who cares!!). Most likely owns several cats.
This class is demanding, but Swett is really helpful. The best approach: read the book carefully, review lecture, get into good group. Mainly, communicate with her. She understands her demands, you can see she cares about her students when you speak to her. If you do the work she notices!
She is an awesome professor. She is very helpful.
Not an easy class but it was manageable. Read, take really good notes and use the study guide she provides. Make sure you get into a good group because the project is a huge chunk of your grade. Switch groups if your're doubtful of the one you get in. Be SPECIFIC on the analysis papers. Has the energy of a 5-year old-the exact opposite of boring.

Well...as a fairly good communicator I can say that this course is too highly based on text, and her personal alterations to the comprehension of the subject. I escaped with a B,"barely." Can't deal with her stories about her life but she's an understanding person. Don't go challenging her or giving her the perception that you think she's easy.
Best teacher at CSUN, hands down! You learn alot and she gives TONS of examples. Tests are pretty straightforward but you have to do the work. LOVE HER!
Professor Swett is AWESOME. I learned more in her class and had more fun doing so than in any other class I've taken before. She is a genuine and caring person and is very helpful if you're stuck on anything. Her style of teaching is fairly relaxed and she uses plenty of examples of the constructs that you (or she) might see happen in real life.
Best Professor Ever! Must take her! Had her for two semesters, she's awesome! Quizzes at the beginning of class so attendance is mandatory. I highly recommend her!
Great professor. She enjoys teaching & is willing to help you. However, don't try to take things for granted because she also expects you to do your part and keep up with the class.Expect a quiz each time there is a reading assignment.Study guides are provided for each exam. There?s a lot of work but worth it if you?re looking for a quality professor.
Professor Swett is great! I lerned a lot and enjoyed her class. She is really flexible with her students but you do have to read. A lot of quizzes on the readings and tests are not too hard if you read. I recommend her class to everyone!
Took her as an elective and I got a B. Hardest elective ever. You work with a group the whole semester which can be easy if u agree on everything. Makes u write 2 analysis papers, just be honest and detailed and you?ll get an A! Exams are soo hard! study guides are B.S.weekly quizes, with similar questions each week. Ok class exams are just hard!
Don't be fooled by Prof. Swett's easy-going demeanor. She means business! This is not an easy course, but its useful, she is fair and its what you make of it. You get out what you put in.
Karen is amazing. I had her for 323, 356, 360 & learned so much from her in all classes. She cares about her students & makes sure that they understand the material presented in class & in text. She is such a great character. You won't regret taking her class. & Don't take advantage of her niceness - know your stuff. You'll definitely learn a lot.
I took this class with P. Karen in the last spring & enjoyed a lot from her lecturing. Quizzes are easy (just need short answers). A few home-essays, 1 midterm & 1 final( both are multiple choice. If u study textbooks & class notes, & review the study guides b4 tests as well, definitely u'll be fine. I got B+ in this class. Highly recommend her!
Take this Professor! She's amazing! I love her lecturing style! Just 6 home essays, a few simple quizzes with short answers, 1 midterm & 1 final test(both multiple choice). If u study textbooks( just some parts), class notes & the study guides B4 tests, u'll be fine. MY final grade was B+. I highly recommend her. She's fair. :)
She has a midterm and final which are composed of tricky multiple choice questions, there is a chapter quiz every week or outline due which serves as attendance, and 5 essays which are 50% of your grade. She has too many examples that are based on her children, she needs some fresh material.
She is crazy when it comes to outlines! she grades more on the outline than the speech. For coms 151 i would suggest a different professor because i had a terrible time with her!
She is an awesome teacher. Its easy to get an A because she lets you rewrite essays until you got an A. She is also very understanding. The class was not boring because we spend a lot of time discussing real life issues. And she looks amazing for her age, I forget what age she told us she was but I could not believe it
She is good Professor, tells a lot of personal stories. She actually does care about her students. Assigns about five three papers essays. Only complaint is the class is dry.
Her personal stories made the 3 hour lecture nauseating. She lets you rewrite papers, quizzes are a joke, entire class is based on grp project. Grading is subjective.wi If you want to enjoy the class pick a good group or a different teacher. Don't take her 3 hour class unless you enjoy torture.
Prof Swett is very helpful, smart and funny. She makes sure to make clear what she exactly wants. Her lectures are interesting. highly recommend her.
AMAZING! Take her! She's funny, lively, great stories. Class is very interactive. If you don't take her, you're definitely missing out. A lot of writing and reading, but she will make you wish you were a COMS major! She has a heavy load teaching so many classes, but she'll know your name along with everyone elses. SHE'S THE BEST
She's really down to Earth and is all about 2nd chances. Lets you re-write papers, gives a clear study guide and let us have a study sheet (cheat sheet) for the Midterm and Final. She said we were the first class she did this for though. Amazing professor, but this class is all about the group you get. So choose wisely and you'll do great!
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Swett is very helpful and wants to see everyone succeed. She allows people to rewrite their essays (she gave this class 5, but 3 pages each and not too difficult). Grade is based half on essays and half on the midterm and final combined.
She is nice but she spends too much time talking about her children instead of teaching the actual material. She tries too hard to relate to her students by using her kids as examples relating to what we read in the textbook. Only gave us 4 essays- the last one was extra credit and gives you the opportunity to rewrite your first 2 essays. Boring
Great class and great professor. Professor Swett is awesome! She's tells you what she wants and gives great feedback for the speeches. 5 speeches and 3 essays. Easy class definitely take!
Don't miss out on her course. She is wonderful, excellent, and she goes above and beyond to help you and she fully ensures that you understand everything. Her passion for teaching is like a breath of fresh air. I truly enjoyed her class and I recommend her without reservation.
she is amazing , love her so much. very active, super nice, very clear. listen to her lectures in the class and study a little and you will be fine.
She is sometimes hard to follow during lectures. She gives great feedback. She lets you rewrite papers until you are satisfied. Weekly quizzes to make sure you are reading the textbook. A few tests and a final.
Professor Swett is Amazing!! She is very enthusiastic about her lectures and she follows her schedule on her syllabus exactly as it shows. Show up to class, participate and take notes on her readings that you can use on her quizzes and you will do great in her class!
THE BEST PROFESSOR!
Do the reading for this class, she gives quizzes, but her test and quizzes are not tough. She isn't a tough grader as long as you follow the criteria, but she is open minded so don't be afraid to be creative.
Great and hilarious professor, to be honest she gives good group strategy advice, but is totally unclear on what she requires from the projects that she assigns. All that aside, if you take notes on your readings, you are exempt from her quizzes, and she gives a study guide for midterms, there is no reason to get less than a B.
I've taken two classes with Professor Swett thus far and would take another if possible. She truly cares about teaching and her students in a lot of ways and is very friendly, honest, helpful and caring. Having to juggle so many classes and assignments she always makes time for her students as well as gives them detailed feedback and consideration.
Professor Swett is one of my favorite at CSUN. She will go out of her way for you to succeed in life. She gave me a recommendation letter that help me get into to grad school next semester. I've only taken her for one class but I would take care again in a heart beat. Take her she's great and super nice.
She's cool! Super enthusiastic, passionate, and understanding. Very sweet too. Course was fairly simple. 3 exams, reading quizzes, and one big group project. Her lectures are long but only because she has a lot to say! Rambles quite a bit... Felt like only 40% of what she has to say is anything worth remembering
She was my favorite professor by far so far, makes you feel comfortable. Kind, smart and understands people are nervous. Stick with it and you will be fine as long as you try & pay attention to her instructions. Wish I could have her for all my classes. A++++
K. Swett has many good qualities. She has lots of enthusiasm and loves for the students to participate. She has a tendency to run on and on as if she doesn't want a bit of silence in the room. She's a tough grader but very fair. The only thing I can complain about is that she lectured way too much. There was lots of redundant statements.
Will talk until the cows come home, be ready. Very friendly and understanding, will work with you if you need help on something but it's imperative that you communicate that with her. The only negative I'd have to say is that she sends SO many emails. Read/study/do exactly what she assigns and you'll get an A. Overall AWESOME teacher.
Professor Swett is awesome, she is like having a Mother in class. She cares dearly about her students and is one of my favorite professors at CSUN. Take her if you want a professor that really cares and is super nice. She will give you a recommendation letter when needed, take her you will not regret it.
Get ready to do a lot of homework and reading. She is very nice and speaks very fast. However, I would not take her again. Some of my friends love taking classes with her, but I have no patience for the LIST OF EXAMPLES SHE PROVIDES IN HER LECTURES.
Professor Swett is a super fun, sweet, and caring instructor. We had a group project that lasted the entire semester, 2 analysis papers, and a few tests and quizzes. She is particular about what she wants out of the project but it is all written in the instructions, so as long as you follow it, you'll get a good grade. Highly recommend her!
there 2-3 papers which you need to do and 1 major group project, make sure to take the class with people you know or make sure to find a good set of people to do the group project. you will have fun in the class, one of the best classes i have taken on campus.
The sweetest professor! She cares about her students too much. She is very open and she will help with whatever that you need just ASK her! She will talk to you for hours and hours until you get the idea. I would take her again and again and again. I literally LOVE her!
Professor Swett is amazing, I took her at 8am and I wanted to die but she made the class more bearable. She is funny, and really understanding. The class was easy, just 5?speeches and a few at home critiques and evaluations. She does tend to go off topic for what seems like forever but other than that shes awesome. Would take again (:
Amazing professor. Just do the work as instructed and show up. My class got really close to each other and it was a good experience especially since its not really like that in college.
Awesome professor, works with the students and is clear and upfront. Everything is on canvas and is willing to help you out through email or office hours.
friday/3 hr/ 8 am class is never a good combination but She kept me engaged. its hard to find a hard prof who cares and takes pride in what she teaches. if you are willing to learn you wont have a problem in her class. she is a tough grader, work for your grade and the knowledge you get out of this class is priceless.
She wants you to succeed and will work with you if struggle with public speaking. Her assignments are very clear and easy to follow, do your best because she does not hand out A's, never got one myself. Email your paper to her before it is due so you know what to fix for a better grade. Calls ppl out alot which was annoying, but shes still cool :D
She is very particular about the outline. I took her early in the morning and she spoke straight for 2:30 hours so prepare yourself with enough coffee. She cares a lot about herself rather than the students. I did everything to get an A and she will probably will give me b- or b plus. There are many other professors that are better than her...
By far the best teacher I've ever had. I improved drastically in my speech-giving abilities and had the best time learning with her. She truly cares about you and pushes you to do more than you think you can do. Her personality is electric and funny that is impossible to put you to sleep. I highly recommend :)
Karen is really nice and wants her students to pass. She literally always allows late work to accommodate to students. Just follow the speech criteria and you'll pass. The only issue I had was that she talks a lot and its really difficult at 8 am to hear so much talking and energy. 3 single speeches, 1 group speech and 3 self evals, thats it.
Participation matters a lot, you will have to speak up and ask for help. If you are shy, this class will be hard for you. The class is graded heavily on speeches and presentations, it's very challenging. The professor is nice and caring, i recommend going to office hours and emailing regularly for feedback on presentations.
Professor Swett was such an inspiration to myself. This was an upper division advanced public speaking course during my first semester online with the pandemic. Not only does Professor Swett care for the students, but also your personal development individually and as a whole. Follow the outlines, keep in contact with Prof. Swett, and do your best.
Professor Swett is nice and caring but the way she ran the class was not pleasant. Her canvas home page was very unorganized and confusing. There are 4 speeches and around 3 quizzes. 3-4 critiques & 3 self evaluations that are mini essays, and many discussion forums with 5 replies or more. She also is a tough grader on speeches, but gives feedback.
Professor Swett is carying and energetic. I always look forward to joining her zoom lectures and workshops. She is very kind and allows you to resubmit your speeches if you are unhappy with your performance. She will give you great feedback so this class is not difficult to pass. She is a fantastic profesor and I would 100% take her class again.
Very unorganized class, sloppy modules in canvas, she is a late grader although she will let you resubmit for a better grade. She is specific and gives too much detail on how to submit assignments, you will be reading instructions for everything. I do not recommend for an online course, her teaching style is better suited for in person.
4 speeches, 4 tests, and self evaluation papers for each speech. She seems like a good and fun person with lots of energy, but the way she presents our assignments is so unorganized it makes it difficult to understand. Her canvas is also very unorganized and it is so hard to find what you are looking for. She gives great feedback though.
Easy and fun class! Super encouraging, kind, and helpful, do not be afraid to ask questions or proofreading on speeches - her feedback is helpful. The various speeches make up the biggest part of your grade, so be creative, prepared, and practice! Likes to use the ZOOM break-out room feature, so make sure you're engaged and participative.
Dawg this class is difficult for no reason. Save yourself please. Do NOT, I mean DO NOT take a 3 hour class with her in the morning. It is awful. Take her online to save yourself the embarrassment and pain that comes along with this class and professor. Other than that, easy class and not that much work, just four speeches that makes up your grade.
The class was ok even though it was on a Friday but for the most part, I will always remember her because she gave me a C on a speech because she said I did not "look" like I could write "well" and that If another professor ever felt the same way she would vouch for me. WHO SAYS THAT?
Professor Swett is great. There's 4 speeches, 3 quizzes, and self reflections that aren't hard. Her class is mandatory, but I missed some and still got an A. Make sure you are there on speech days and speech introduction days. She talks a lot and it gets boring sometimes, but we get a 10 minute break. Show up and put in some effort and you'll pass.
She's super organized and that makes it really fun. Her lectures can be boring at times, but she gives great feedback and a chance to redo everything. I would recommend to prepare for the speech and try to get her feedback beforehand. She's very nice and funny, have fun!
Took her class last semester and it was interesting, to say the least. She's passionate about what she teaches but I'm warning you DON'T take this class if you are not a morning person, this class will drain you. Long Lectures but the workload isn't bad and is evenly spaced out however she can be a tough grader and her feedback can be vague.
She is very kind and leaves amazing feedback. She seems as though she can be laid back but still maintain the tough professor profile when it comes to grading. Overall she's a great professor, no doubt.
