Great teacher, willing to help if you need it. Material easy to understand. Can e-mail or call her for help. Not a difficult class at all. If you do the work you will get a good grade.
Gives handouts for the different topics. Easy to understand. Willing to help. Makes stats fun. Excellent professor. If you can take stats from her.
lots of homework, but she'll do everything possible to help you master the topics.
Doesn't give much homework... mostly through MyMathLab. I suck at math but this course wasn't bad. She is an easy grader, very generous with partial credit and extra credit
Great teacher! Willing to answer questions. Homework and class examples appear on test. Not usually good at math but did well in her class.
This professor is very thorough and makes this course easy to understand. She provides you with note packets so you dont really use the book much. This is a somewhat difficult course as it progresses but she does everything in her power to make it easy to understand. I learned a lot. Lots of homework, projects, open hw quizes but I still recommend.
Awesome teacher!! I thought I would have done horrible in this class and had no interest in it because I only needed it to fill a pre-req but, Professor Wells made it interesting. She is very clear when she teaches and will always help no matter what..I RECOMMEND HER ALOT!! SHE IS AWESOME : )
Love the class. A lot of fun activities. Helped us to understand why the various rules worked. Can't wait to teach elementary school.
This professor is good. She explains the material well. Paying attention is mandatory. Do not drift off in her class because she does have a tendency to move quickly.
The thought of taking the class made me cringe, but she made it so simple I barely have to study (not recommended for all)! She used to be an elementary teacher and it shows because she almost spoon feeds the info to you. Am so grateful I took her class because I hate math but the class was required. Just wish she would smile more - yeesh!
She's the only math teacher that uses calculator during class for easy multiplication or division. Altough the class is boring, its easy to pass.
Boring but an easy class. Very helpful.
Provides excellent notes, explains thoroughly and is more than willing to help!
MTH 155&156 DCC. Gives good note packets, messes up examples. Do HW! Allowed cheat sheets in 156. Use same stuff for 155 & 156. Practice HW ?'s from book. Bring Activity Kit to class. Many people barely showed, not kicked out. Former elementary math teacher. Uses calculator a lot to teach. Add up test points, she miscalculates often. Sign in sheets
She makes stats. easy to understand. I will take Stats. 2 because she shared her passion of the subject with the entire class.
Took this class over the summer. Very fast paced. Loved the activities we did. Feel prepared for MTH 156.
She goes slow and makes sure that everyone is on the same page before continuing, and constantly references previous lessons so that they stay fresh. Homework is optional, and any test that even threatens to be difficult is take-home. Tons of chances for extra credit if you somehow fall behind. (shouldn't happen though) 'A+' on a silver platter.
Professor Wells is an excellent teacher. Math is not my best subject, and not only did I get an A in the class, I truly felt like I understood what what was being taught. One of the best math teachers I have ever had, if not the very best.
Karen Wells is an amazing teacher. I haven't had math in 22 years so I didn't know what to expect. She loves her job, loves math + teaching. Do the optional homework + ask questions. She wants you to succeed. So many opportunities to get great grades. Take them + get your A.
I Love her class so much, i never liked math untill Ms. Wells. She really breaks things done even though i hated her little corny joke.
Very good professor i got an easy A. Even if you're not good in math you can get a good grade. she's very helpful and wants everyone to actually learn and succeed. the only problem i have is that she forgot to put up some of my grades until i reminded her.
I personally like her but she sometimes goes fast through the notes, thankfully I am good with math. If you are confused she will help you, you just need to ask! Allows cheat sheet on exams and all of our quizzes but one we were able to use a partner or our notes. One quiz we were able to ask her if it looked right and she would help us! Need book!
She seems to teach the subject well however she teaches things a very confusing way. Suddenly finding the mean becomes a 10 step process! However, many chances for extra credit, you can use a cheat sheet on the test, and she loves to help people. Would recommend!
Very helpful professor. Makes thing crystal clear and does everything to make you pass the course. If you don't pass then you didn't put any effort in it.
I took this class online she is very nice and understanding, responded to e-mails however I needed to e-mail her often about errors I noticed in some of the tests and assignments I like her but she is a bit confusing sometimes and makes mistakes with material that can already be overwhelming if your not a math head (but we all make mistakes right?)
I am a Phi Beta Kappa student who has experience and this is one of the best professors. Got only B in a long time, but challenge was worth all the effort. She is a good communicator with an interesting (refeshing) sense of humor!!
She was very helpful and fair. I recommend her to any student. She gives a lot of extra credit. The extra credit she gave is the reason why I passed her class.
I would never take her class. I dropped it the second week. I corrected her for a few math errors she made. It was a refresher class for me. She contradicts a lot of what she says. She makes problems longer then they are. If you are learning that type of math for the first time don't take her class
Awesome teacher! I actually understood the material. Will let you check answers before you turn in graded work. Very flexible.
Easy A if you go to class and do work... TEXTBOOK was for bonus only and basically cost me 150 dollars.
Loved her. She explained the very first day of class what she expects out of you. She gives a take home midterm and you are able to use a regular sheet of paper for formulas when the final comes. I haven't taken math in 3 years and i got a B+ overall. Shes very easy to understand and tells it in a way you will understand. Take her, you wont regret!
She is a great teacher, she give you extra credit for every chapter that we did. she occasionally hands out other extra credit. She does in class quizzes regularly. and she drops the lowest 5 quizes
Shows how to do problems step by step. Cares whether you pass or not.
I struggle a little with math but statistics was something I had high interest in. I wish she showed more enthusiasm but over all she is a nice person and does a decent job explaining things. If she wasn't as nice as she was her score would have been ALOT lower.
note packets videos quizzes projects and exams. Teacher answers emails quickly. Organized. Enjoyed the course and did well.
Crystal clear guidance, easy availability. Friendly in the classroom. Absolutely take this class.
Professor Wells breaks everything down and makes it easier. Great feedback, works with you in office hours. Test and assigments based on note packets. Extremely laid back and will answer any question. One of the best!!!!
I took the class online, she was always there to help when I would Email her. I even went into office hours a few times for help. She lets you email her check in activities a few days in advance so she can check them.
Helpful teacher that made statistics very straightforward and doable even when I have other more difficult classes! She checks over your homework before you turn it in to make sure you get a good grade! Plus she brought us candy on the final. Very personable too; getting to know her over the semester was enjoyable.
Taking an online course made me nervous because math is not easy for me. But I loved the course. Lots of videos and she quickly answered my questions. A lot of work but it was also fun and enjoyable. I like that she looks over check ins before they are due.
Took it online. A lot of information crammed into one course. Never used the book. Watched the videos to help me. Answered email quickly. I wonder does she sleep?
This was an online course. Answered emails quickly. Feedback on graded assignments. Very helpful.
Loved the class! Well organized. A lot of videos we could watch as resources. Hated fractions but no more! Played some games . Better understanding of math concepts. Things I never understood before I now do!
This was a 5 week summer course. There was a lot of material to learn but her notes and resources were great. Quick feedback on assignments. If you have a question email her and she will get back to you that same day. I like that she will look over things before you submit them for a grade. There are due dates but you can work ahead.
This was a 5 week online course. The course was well organized. Will look at graded assignments before you submit them for a grade as long as you give her 2 days. Most of the time she got back to me that day. Final exam was not hard. She doesn't make us memorize formulas. Answers questions quickly.
Well organized. Enjoyed the course.
Karen Wells is one of the best math teacher I've had throughout my two years at MCC, and I'm very excited to be taking MTH 156 with her next semester. She was always clear with the assignments, continuously updated the update folder.
Instead of exams , we did projects. You need to attend class because she does group work or class activities. I loved them because we could help each other with the material. Drops the lowest 3. Don't need a book but she does use MML. You can do the quizzes as many times as you want. Easy A if you do the work and come to class.
This was an online course. Hated math but I now like it. Learned a lot. Can't wait to student teach next semester and used what I learned. Always willing to answer questions. Usually gets back to you same day. I would recommend this class and teacher . She's the best.
I've taken two classes now with Prof Wells. Don't expect an easy A, but do expect to have everything you need to get that A handed right to you. She restructured the class this semester and so there were a few errors in assignments that were quickly fixed. Great notes given to you and very responsive to questions. Works with you as much as she can.
Took this course with her over the sumner. She gives feedback on assignments before you submit it for a grade. Notes were helpful, exams were fair along with the final exam. Took MTH 161 this semester and felt she did a good job preparing me for it.
Very good professor! Loves what she teaches and is committed to the students. Doesn't expect you to memorise the material, but teaches you to apply it. Lots of homework and class activities, but, if you ask for help, it is really hard to get a bad grade. I would take a class with her again. Highly recommended.
Great professor and a great class to take online. it was clear and she did a great job if we had any questions. I took both 155 and 156 online with her.
I love that we can submit graded assignments ahead of time for her to check. No surprises on exams. The homework helped prepared me for exams. Took a Stat course at 4 year college. I felt prepared. I would definitely take another course with her.
I loved this course. Needed one more math course before I graduated. My major is early childhood. While I was taking this course I was working in a day care center. It was exciting to be able to use what we were learning with the children in the center. Great teacher.
No tests! We needed to do projects. We could always check answers before we submitted it for a grade. Need to go to class because a group activity is done every class. Very easy to get an A if you go to class, check answers on projects, do mml. Would recommend her
Took this class with her last semester. Well organized. Gave us note packets and in Blackboard she posted the same note packet with the notes filled in. I liked that because I could print them out and then just concentrate on the problems we worked on in class. Didn't need a textbook. She gave us the tables we needed. Loved her.
Took it last semester. Taking the next course with her in the summer. Looks over check ins before you submit them for a grade. Lots of videos and resources for you. One low exam grade dropped. Do the work, watch the videos, ask questions and you will do well
Awesome caring professor. I wish she was teaching the second half of the course.
I love the way she teaches. Her notes are clear. Checks over things before you submit them. Very helpful. I highly recommend her . She has videos and filled in note packets on Blackboard.
This class is an easy A. Open notes, quizzes and tests. You just need your final exam proctored. She answers emails pretty quickly and is willing to look over your check in activities 2 days before. There is no reason anyone should get less than a B. I got an A and didn't try that hard.
Great professor, always there to help any student who isn't fully grasping the material. She gives you a lot of time to make sure you submit your homework assignments in on time. She basically tells you what will be on each test. Easy to get an A as long as you do the work.
Her note packets are great and they are online too. Makes sure everyone is comfortable with the material before she moves on. Will meet with you even if it's the an office hour. Answers emails quickly. Looks over homework and Minitab before you turn it in for grade. Take her. You won't regret it.
Awesome. Note packets are clear and easy to use. Unlimited tries on MyStatLab. Answers questions quickly. I had a question and she did a similar problem and emailed it to me. Exams open book. I wish she was teaching the next course.
There are no tests. There are projects that are easy to do. Unlimited attempt for MyMathLab. Must attend class because there is a graded group activity every day. Loved the class. No reason you shouldn't get an A.
Take every class you can with her! She is absolutely amazing. Very organized and structured. Tells you exactly what will be on the tests. You don't even need the book because her note packets are more than enough. I recommend her 100%!
To be honest when I picked Ms. Wells as my teacher i was nervous because of the reviews of what people said before hand about her. but i just had her spring semester 2017 she is the best teacher ever at mjc. she really passionate about what she teaches really does care about her students. she has changed my whole life.
Lectures are pretty dry and if you dont practice the material you wont do good on the tests. The tests are the same format as the note packets.
Taking an online course scared me. But she made it less fearful. She will look over all check ins and Minitabs one time before you submit if for a grade. She answers questions quickly. Love her.
She grades tough. She takes off points for everything. She is not versatile with her way of teaching, basically if you don't understand how she teaches something don't expect her to find another way to help you understand.
I just read the rating before this one. I don't understand what they are talking about. She is very caring and she goes out of her way to be accessible. When I didn't understand something she always found a different way to explain it. She was always quick to answer email. I would definitely recommend her.
She is very prompt with her emails but when it comes to help she can do better. This was an online class and even when I went to meet her her numerous time for help, she just repeated herself without finding a new way of making me understand certain problems. I think she can find more ways to help teach someone. She is a tough grader as well
This was a 5 week class. Note packets were amazing. Used my statlab. Unlimited times. If you look at her note packets you will do great on exams. Answered emails quickly. Went to her office for help and she was great. Came in just for me. Definitely would recommend her.
Answers emails in 5 min. You can email her your work for her to check before you submit it online. Class is easily laid out online and she tells you exactly what needs to be done for each chapter. Definitely would recommend!
She has checkins but will look them over before you submit them for a grade. Open book exams. I was worried about the final exam but after doing the exams and check ins it wasn't bad. You can bring in one sheet of paper with formulas, notes, examples to the final.
Awesome. Caring. Makes sure every student understands the material before moving on. No text book required. Excellent note packets. Group work.
Great professor. She even came to my house to tutor me. It helped a lot! I got an A!
Alot of homework but she does give many examples. Teaches out of packet that she will hand out. Never purchased book. Will take points off for simple things. Doesnt always clearly answer questions. Received a B in class.
I took MTH 155 with her online. She used a book. For this course it was much better. No book. Great notes with lots of videos if you need them. Final exam can replace one low exam grade. Drops the lowest 4 check ins. Love the course.
Prof. Wells is so sweet and caring however there is a lot of work given in a short amount of time. She does check over your work if you hand it in early which is nice. Explanations online aren't always clear and you will had to use a lot of pictures and drawing which can be hard on a computer. She responds very quickly to emails and questions.
Her expectations are pretty easy to fulfill but she seems to only have a rudimentary understanding of topics and presents them in a complicated, non-meaningful way. Cant answer simple questions on the topics she presents either. I wouldnt recommend taking her if you plan on following up with a more advanced stats class.
No textbook. Quizzes no tests. Group work. She is really good. She always makes sure we know the material before moving on. Taking the second half of the course this semester and doing great. I definitely was prepared. Take her if you can.
Guided note packets instead of a book is used. Quizzes no exams. Drops the lowest 3. Gives a lot of hints for knowing when to fail to reject or reject the null hypothesis. Gives a lot of examples for the various topics. Great teacher!
Karen Wells really cares about her students; gives out note packets that are detailed, with several examples to study from, and homework to apply what you've learned from lectures. Extremely accessible for email out of class and gives extra credit. YOU WILL LEARN from her. Take her class if you could!
She is very kind and careful with the way she teaches. She takes her time and makes sure everyone in the class understands each section before she moves on. It's a good class for someone who's not great at math and needs the confidence boost and practice. You might get bored if you're more advanced. The grading is clear if you pay attention.
She is good about checking over work and helping you fix things but she is very slow and boring when she teaches. I took an 8am with her (BIG mistake) and wanted to fall asleep every. single. class. Monotone voice and boring You almost feel embarrassed asking her questions in class because she kind of talks to you like you should already know it.
Wells is a good professor if you are very very bad at math. She will explain EVERYTHING TO DEATH. However, if you are decent at math than I would suggest another professor who will not over explain everything to the point where it no longer makes sense. On the bright side, she has all her notes and everything you need on blackboard.
This professor goes out of her way to make sure you understand the material. She offers to check your work before it's due so you're guaranteed to do well in this class as long as you're not lazy. She even called me once to explain a problem to me that I could not understand. Would love to take another course with her.
If youre taking this online during the summer dont take it with law I. Shes an amazing teacher, always accessible and goes the extra mile to explain things if you ask. The final is disproportionately difficult, she doesnt grade it and it doesnt come in a methodical format. Shes also generous in her grading. The final wont be. A to a C+.
I am taking stats online with her and notes make absolutely no sense. There is no explanations or guidance on how to complete questions, so if you don't understand how she got an answer on your own, then too bad. When I email her with questions, she answers with very little explanation or interest. Doesn't even try to help. Wouldn't suggest her.
It was tough going from a face to face class to online because of Covid. But she is willing to zoom and work with you one to one. She will also look at check in assignments and give you feedback before you submit them for a grade. Love the note packets and the videos.
Her note packets are awesome. Plenty of videos! I like we can zoom with her and ask her all sort of questions. I am taking MTH 156 with her. I love her teaching style and the ability to have her look over some my assignments before I submit them for a grade. She drops the lowest 4 assignments and the final grade replaces one low exam grade.
This was a tough semester for me because of covid. But she was always willing to zoom with me and help me understand the material. I liked the fact we could email her our check ins to look over before we submitted them. Great class and great teacher!
I have taken 2 of her classes and I have done well in both. She has clear deadlines and the notes packets include many videos. She is easily accessible for help. She drops your 5 lowest homework/checkins and replaces your lowest exam grade with your final.
I took this class online. I did not keep up with the assignments and ended up not finishing the course because her notes made absolutely no sense, you cant follow them and there is no explanations. I am sure if you took it in person it would be different but I would not recommend taking it online.
I really wanted to love Prof. Wells. She has a sweet demeanor and Im sure shes a great person. But, I really struggled in her class. I struggled because the lectures are very bland, there is no discussion beyond whats the correct answer (I get it, its math, but its okay to relax a bit and chat), and there is an insane amount of homework.
I just too the NYS exam and this class helped me a lot. Love her.
Her class is too hard and she gives too much work . she gives enough homework which she calls check ins for multiple classes. with her class it feels like your taking 3 classes in one
Her guided note packets were excellent. Always available for help.
MTH 162 - SUPER challenging, don't take it online, but if you have to, Prof Wells is your best bet. She is super accessible and lets you submit assignments for feedback before the due date so you can make corrections. The final is a *huge* percentage of your grade and I may feel differently about her if I tank that, so reviewing now to avoid bias.
Very accessible. Willing to look at work before you turn it in.
She answered questions quickly and provided good material for the course.
She was available to help and the work was not insane as long as you read and watch the videos
