She is a very helpful teacher. She makes sure the class gets what she is talking about. There is homework as with every math class but i think she gives a lot less. There is a quiz once a week but its only 4 questions. Short and sweet. Overall a great teacher and wants her students to do well.
Best math teacher I have ever had. Absolutely wonderful. She is so helpful and explains the material well. She goes above and beyond to help her students.
She is an amazing instructor and is by far the best math instructor I have had at Oakland. She cares so much about her students and goes beyond and above to help. She is always available to help in her office hours and over email. She explains concepts in simple ways and makes sure you understand them. She is super friendly and helpful.
She is a great teacher! I took her twice and I wish I could take her again. There is homework and Aleks but she always goes over the assigned work if you have questions on it. She is very helpful and funny. She is the best math teacher/ teacher at Oakland. She is very nice and understanding! I would definitely recommend her! :)
Took Kari at OCC. Algebra made me want to quit college. She was a great teacher. I may not get even a B but her teaching kept me coming back. If I pass I owe it to her patience. Chili pepper for the hippie chick. :)
BEST math teacher EVER! The material is not easy and she expects you to do the work. But because of the way she explains the material, it is 100% understandable. I hate math but she made the steps to each problem crystal clear. She shows you how to actually do the problems! AND she is very helpful available. TAKE HER EVERY CHANCE YOU GET!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PROFESSOR! Goes above and beyond for her students and truly wants to see them do well. Explains things very clearly. Always has positive words of wisdom. I 100% recommend her!
Very nice teacher will answer any question you have she was the only reason why i passed with a B.
She is fun, interesting and passionate about math. Available help and WILL work with you if you need extra time or help. Grades according to how you progress and learn through out semester, which gives you time do really well. She knows how to teach students well. Makes you not want to miss class :)
TAKE THIS TEACHER YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. She is the GREATEST MATH TEACHER hands down. Explains everything perfectly. Easy going and grades VERY WELL. I wish she were moving on to higher levels. She is the best teacher you will not be disappointed!!!!
Best professor, perfect clarity, flexible and understanding. No other math teacher @ OU compares.
Professor Wasen is one of the best professors I have ever had at OU! I recommend everyone to take her for math! Clearly everyone knows not to take math at OU, but she is worth the 1,400 dollars! EXCELLENT professor and helps you to achieve a 4.0! My final grade is a 4.0! I advise everyone to take her, you will learn a lot!!!
I love this woman.
Ms. Wasen was he best instructor I've ever had. Do all of the homework and study and you will have no problem passing her class. I'm not the best at math but her method of teaching helped me to understand the material and pass every test with an A. I would definitely take a class with her again. Wish she taught CHM...
Professor Wasen is by far the best professor I have had at Oakland University. She is very clear and makes you really understand math. She is amazing and I would highly recommend everyone to take her. Got a 4.0 taking her in the summer while working two jobs and barely went to class. She is AMAZING. Do yourself the favor and just sign up with her!!
She is a great teacher. OU's math department could use more teachers like her. She is helpful, she does give a lot of problems for homework but it's manageable and helps you understand how the tests are going to be. I'm 12 way through the semester and feel confident about passing because of the help offered inside and outside of class
She's a GREAT teacher. Highly recommend her for 061 and 062! She teaches in a slow way to make sure that everyone understands. At times there's a lot of homework to keep up with, but if you can't finish she's understanding. Very laid back and actually cares. Provides good test reviews and test corrections. Take her!
She is the best professor ever! She makes math fun & color codes her notes during lecture to make it super easy to follow along. Any incorrect questions on exams are mandatory redo, but you can regain some exam points :) I wish she taught every math class at OU.
She goes above and beyond the expectations of a great professor. She puts in just as much time (if not more) into the class as the students. She goes slow through the notes so that they are clear and concise. Tests are easy if you go to class and take notes. Absolute best math professor. Take her and I promise you won't regret it.
I'm a 5th year senior and I can definitely say she is BY FAR the best teacher at OU. She took the time to meet me outside of class and help me with questions that didn't even have to do with class. Shes hilarious, too. The best part about her, unlike every other prof at OU, is that she ACTUALLY wants you to succeed. I wish she taught them all.
I have had a lot of trouble in math in the past and Coach is an amazing teacher. She cares about her students and loves to teach. She wants you to understand the material, not just past the test. However, she also wants you to pass, she meets weekly outside of class if you need extra help. Because of her I found out I'm actually good at math!
This is by far the best math teacher I have ever met in my entire life. She definitely gave me a better outlook on my career in math... Make sure you show up to all the classes and ask for help whenever needed. she has spent over - nighters helping people understand material and going out of her away. VERY RESPECTED in my eyes!
This class is so easy it makes me stupid. Passed with flying colors.
SHE WAS AMAZING! She is there for anything that you need. Her entire goal of the semester is to help us and make sure that we feel comfortable with what we are learning. Math is not my strong suit, but I actually remember things that I learned from her class and fully enjoyed it.
Coach is a very caring professor, she wants everyone to do well and understand the material and goes out of her way to do so! My only concern is she is pretty low-key and disorganized which stresses me out because I am the opposite but I was still able to do well in the class. Probably one of OUs better math professors.
Best math professor I've ever had. Already signed up for the next math class with her. Such a good spirit with an amazing heart and love for her students who absolutely hate this subject. Extremely recommended!! You will not be disappointed.
Coach really knows how to break pre-calc down, and is very understanding. She's a real cool teacher and laid back, but i wish she was more organized. Took more than a month to get our 2nd exam back - moved tests around a lot, some days we didn't take notes - I'm pretty worried I won't do well in Calc. She does help with any questions though!
Coach is cool and a very nice, funny person... I have literally learned nothing in this class though. I'm supposed to be going on to calc and am not prepared at all.
BEST MATH PROF EVER!! I recommend to anyone I know. Notes are color coded and very easy to read. She grades based on knowledge of the concept, not math mistakes-gives partial credit. Attend lecture and you'll easily pass. Exams are VERY similar to her reviews¬es. She throws a pizza party at the end. She's easy to follow and listen to. Fav prof.
Coach is a wonderful teacher, she takes her time and explains everything really well. She goes out of her way to help her students and make sure they are successful. She knows that not everyone learns the same way and will help you no matter what. She would stay at the school all night just to see a student succeed. best math teacher ever!!!
Coach is the only prof that could math enjoyable for me. Second class with her & another A. She wants everyone to succeed & will help in anyway possible. This semester was a bit scattered though. Took long to get tests back & lots of date changes. When she's more organized, she's really the best math teacher.
Kari, or Coach to her students, is simply the best teacher you will ever have.. she is helpful, and caring to a fault. She goes through every test to figure out where people went wrong so she can correct your thinking and give partial credit, to name one of many examples. She is very clear. HIGHLY recommend taking her class she is AMAZING!!!
Very easy professor, gives students a lot of slack. Honestly, I didn't like her. Sure it was an easy course, but she isn't a very serious professor. Late to every class (10-15 minutes), pushes back due dates A LOT. I prefer a more structured classroom, but that's just my preference. I know a lot of other students loved her, though.
Best Professor in OU ever never!!
She is by far the best professor I have ever had. She truly cares for her students and goes out of her way so much so everything works out for you.
Coach was a great professor. I prefer a more structured class and coach is a bit unorganized she's probably not the best if math is your major, but if you just need the gen ed she's amazing. Extremely helpful and if you make an effort and come get extra help she makes sure you do well. The online hw wasn't too bad and there was built in EC.
Coach is the best math professor at OU. I highly recommend taking her class. She is very clear with what she expects from you. Go to class, do all the homework and you should be fine.
taken her for two classes 062 which i received around a 3.5 in and 141 which I barely passed. in the yrs I've taken her I assumed I would excel in 141 which was not the case. Her style is completely different. (I'm assuming the math program told her to stop passing so many kids). Be prepared to teach urself. exam dates are told to you 1 day in adva
Kari is one of the best professors I have had at OU. She makes her expectations clear and is there for her students. Came into her class during a rough patch in undergrad career & by the end of the semester she helped me regain confidence and feel that anything is possible. Go to class, take notes & reach out to her. She wants you to succeed!!
If you see any poor comments don't listen to them she's a rockin teacher best there ever was, just work hard and go to her for help if you want to succeed and stop whining its as easy as that she'll put her 100% in now you gotta do the same. You wont find a more caring professor in the math department.
annoyed me to the max, said i was missing class too much when i learn better on my own than with her
Coach is the most caring person I have ever met. During the first week of class, I asked her to meet with me outside of school to help me understand the material so that I wasn't behind. She met with me on LABOR DAY to help me. Nobody else does that. She makes everything easy to understand. Solid all around math lecturer. Coach is the best!
She is an amazing teacher! She is always available to talk to and makes math so much easier to understand. I'm not just saying that! She may be disorganized, but she has a busy life too. Her tests are very similar to the in-class examples, but with different numbers. As long as you look at your notes, you're golden. No other teacher can beat her!:)
What a great teacher! Such an up beat person. She really cares about her students and wants everyone to understand it. Makes math enjoyable. Couldn't ask for a better teacher. Definitely recommend her!
Coach is one of the best professors that I've ever had. I finally understand math! She truly cares about her students and is willing to meet with you outside of class if you need additional help. She makes what is expected of you clear in terms of what to study. I enjoyed her enthusiastic teaching style. I highly recommend her!
Professor Wasen is absolutely amazing! She give tons of examples during classes and goes through the lecture in detail she dumb down a lot of the material and color codes everything so that student who do not understand math will. She meets with student outside of class, super helpful and respectful.. Hands down the best .
Kari Wasen is the best professor at OU. She is extremely helpful and great at explaining math in simple terms. She will help you as long as you are willing to work with her. On tests she will give you as many points possible. I'm taking her for Mth 141 next semester as well and I can't wait.
Coach was awesome and she made math very easy! Attendance didn't matter so half the class didn't show up because all the homework was online anyways! She also always offered help before the tests and gave us plenty of reviews. She grades her tests so easy you have to try to do bad. I would take her again.
I like the teacher, and the class was easy. If you take her for 061 make sure you take her for 062. She doesn't prepare you for the other 062 which is much harder. If you're looking for an easy math class take her.
amazing teacher.
She is the BEST.. I hate Math but need it of course. She makes you feel comfortable & is always willing to help. LOTS of examples which are easy to understand. It was great that the week before finals she held a study group for anyone that wanted extra help to prepare.. YOU MUST TAKE HER!!!
She tries to give you as many points as possible on exams. Attendance wasn't graded. The thing is, I need repitition to learn and she takes a long time on each problem, even when it's simple. In a 2 hour class she did probably 5 problems. Then you take it home and self learn. Didn't like the structure and it was too easy to abuse the attendance.
Take her if you struggle with math. She explains everything step by step and very clearly. She's willing to answer questions. She provides practice exams to help you study. There is a lot of homework but if you don't hand it on the due date she'll let you give it to her on the next class. Just trust me and take her, you won't regret it.
Hands down she is the best professor in OU's math department. She cares that you understand the material as well as pass the class. This professor is truly there for you. Do the online hw, study somewhat for the standard tests and study hard for the final and you'll be fine.
The best math teacher/ professor I have ever encountered. I always struggled with math but she just made it make perfect sense! She cares about the students and she wants everyone to pass!
Kari is an amazing professor, she cares about her students more than any other professor I've had. She puts a lot of time outside of class to meet with students, she wants everyone to pass. She is a big unorganized, and test dates can be randomly decided a week or two before, but she ALWAYS provides reviews with questions directly from the test.
She is an amazing professor. I wish I could take her for every math class.
She is amazing. Absolutely phenomenal professor. She will work with you on a personal level and help with anything she can, extend homework for you, tutor you and even chat about how to boost your grade. So awesome, respected and relatable. Makes any math class fun. Took her for Alg2 and Precalc.
She gave up after the first test we took. Stopped answering emails, and had to show up on SUNDAYS to answer questions/help. Takes MONTHS for tests to be graded. More than half the grades aren't inputted less than a week before finals. Too much unnecessary homework given. Had to teach myself everything because she did one example in class.
Wasnt very good with lectures and going over what was needed, if you did the homework you would pass the tests, but the notes never helped me with anything throughout the class.
I love Professor Wasen. She is extremely helpful in all things Math and you can tell she is really passionate about her job. I personally love all the colors she puts for her problems because it helps me understand and how slowly she works through it with you! She is one of the best Math professors at OU. We need more of her.
She wants to help everyone BUT you go on Sunday to get extra help and there is no chance of actually getting help, you can ask a quick question. I struggled with how scattered she was, tests took forever to be graded and returned, assignments were given on a whim and then never collected. 15 hours of HW/wk is not cool and not collect it.
One of the best classes I've ever had . Always gave extra credit. You did book homework and web assign. Made you stay organized with a binder. Her lectures were fun and short. We rarely stayed the whole time. She was very good at teaching and she color coded all her lectures which were hand written. Easy grader, always wanted you to show work.
Prof. Wasen is a nice person, but a terrible math teacher. She only brings pre-prepared notes & expects students to decipher them. She goes over super easy examples in class & puts super hard ones on the test. She's consistently 15 minutes late, very disorganized, takes forever to respond to emails, & doesn't have office hours. Very frustrating.
Kari, I took her 3 times. Yes 3, the 3rd time I passed. Math isn't my thing, but she never gave up on me. Calls me, texts me, meets me at Panera. Whatever she had to do - she did to help me. Every semester. TAKE HER. I had a lot of trouble, but she makes it soo easy when you dedicate your time and meet her half way. TAKE HER!!!!!
I struggle with math and prof Wasen made it seem simple. She is lenient with due dates which is nice so you can kind of go at your own pace. She makes class fun with her easy going personality. Would recommend her to anyone who has a hard time understanding math. Somewhat of a late test grader, but she seems to have a lot going on.. don't we all?
Amazing professor. Coach will go above and beyond to help you pass her class. Truly dedicated to helping her students!
This semester has been a roller coaster and I've worked my butt off. let's see if I pass!
The best choice for any math course at OU. Took her for business pre-calc. She gets that people may just be taking it for credit. She will narrow it down for you until you get it. Plus she's hilarious. Awesome prof
Coach is one of the best professors at OU. She is caring and willing to go above and beyond with you if you work with her. She is very disorganized which can be irritating at times but her personality and willingness to help in every way possible makes her a great professor. Take her and get to know her, you won't regret it.
Love her class very much. She is extremely helpful and you will learn in her class. She can be a bit disorganized but I got all my test back within 2 weeks so it wasn't too bad. I did really good in the class but towards the end I had health complications and missed an exam, so she dropped all my homework for me to balance my grade out. Love her.
She is a an exceptional instructor and a wonderful person. Throughout the semester she went above and beyond. Coach Kari provided several examples online, had study group Sundays, and one-on-one help. In this competitive and harsh world, it was a breath of fresh air to have an instructor that actually CARED and wanted ALL her students to SUCCEED!
She is a very positive and understanding. She helps as much as she can, all you have to do is ask. She gives out homework but not a lot it helps make up your grade, unlike other math professors. I highly suggest her, she is a wonderful professor.
She is a great person and a nice professor. She does sometimes cancel class before tests and does not prepare you for some of them. Personally, I felt like we where not prepared for our final exams very well.
You'll get a story the first 45 minutes and rush through 5 examples the next hour. Expect at least 10-15 hrs homework/ week, where notes cant help. Examples in class are easy, and whats given on test is way more difficult. You can get 100 on online work but if test aren't completed the way she shows you EVEN IF YOU GET THE CORRECT ANSWER its wrong.
Tough class, not organized properly, timetable not followed, time wasted talking unnecessary stuff and rushed through end. PreCalc is more of algebra. It would be interesting when structured properly. Taught to like kids with colors, smiley faces and fish pictures. Often distracting and not interactive. Grading looks tough but could be easy at end
Literally the best math teacher Ive ever had! The class is really hard simply because the material is hard. But if you show up to class and listen, youll do just fine. Shes spends a lot of out of class time working with students. She really wants her students to understand the material. Also shes just a really awesome person.
Kari is a little bit out there as a person, but cares about her students more than any professor I've ever had. She is fantastic, sets up study sessions in the OC before tests, is very fair, and will do everything in her power to help you. If you struggle with disorganized professors she might not be great for you, but her class isn't hard.
if you struggle with Math she is very helpful. she makes you feel comfortable to ask questions.
Shes very eccentric. She is probably the best pre calculus professor at Oakland but the bar isnt set too high. Shes good at teaching in a way to best help her students but she is very unorganized which can make learning math more stressful than it already is. Her moodle gives me a headache and Im not a huge fan of Alta, the online website.
All in all Kari is a very nice lady. Her teaching style makes it easy to understand and shes actually a good professor. Unfortunately for her, she slept through our final which caused a lot of additional stress on her as well as us students. It helped me grade-wise because it made the final optional but was a major inconvenience.
Kari truly wants her students to do well. If you fail thats your fault. Just show up to each class do the homework and peace corrections per her directions you will be fine. Its helpful to show up to class and then read the steps in the free book link she gives you. She suggests extra practices in the book. DO THEM! All the resources are given.
Kari was one of the best math professors I ever had. if you dislike math as much as I do, then you should take her!! she explains thoroughly and is very understandable. of course, there was homework and exams but honestly, if you showed up, took notes and asked some questions, you will pass. SHE IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU SUCCEED. remember that.
Kari is an interesting professor to say the least. Personally I wasn't a fan of her style of teaching, which can be slightly unorganized at times, but she is much better than the other professors for precalc. She will help you in any way needed and offers help session toward the end of the semester where she will answer any questions
I had her for Pre-Calc and she is a true gem of the OU math department. She goes above and beyond for her students and wants to see everyone do well. It takes a while to get used to her teaching style, she's kind of a hot mess. But she genuinely cares about the success of her students and is available for extra help when needed. Take her for sure!
Coach is the best professor ever. She really cares about her students success and is easily accessible outside of class, with math study frequently before class and on weekends. If you want to do well, just show up everyday for notes, do the homework for each section early (unlike I did), and do your test corrections early.
Overall good at teaching basic concepts in an understandable way. However, this is probably the most unorganized professor Ive had. Shows up late often, doesnt get homework or papers back until weeks later, and seems generally unprepared. She cares a lot about students and will help when she can. Great personality, but terrible preparation.
she provides textbook online. Teaching is great. She can get tough but she will do anything to help u. She won't sleep just to help u and make sure u do good. You can replace 1 of ur test grades with final. There's like 7 sections per exam but as long as u do ur work on time and prepare. She doesn't try to throw u off it's everything you've seen.
I LOVE COACH! She's a great and very nice teacher. She genuinely does care about her students. Her tests aren't hard but she expects you to write everything out step by step or its wrong. She's really fun but very unorganized. I loved her class and would recommend taking her because she makes hard concepts very easy. Is willing to go above for us.
She provided our textbook in a PDF! So depending on the class you may not need to purchase the book. Goes on tangents, beware. Do try to read the book somewhat outside of class if you are in trouble. Accessible by e-mail at night (she sleeps during the day) so easy to get ahold of night before something is due. Answers questions pretty promptly.
Honestly so unorganized. With the time of grading, Giving proper explanations and lesson plans... she even forgot our quizzes at home once. Doesnt explain the course seriously or properly. Shes nice I guess and a very chilled lady. But gets sidetracked really easily and doesnt really explain much. Did not like it at all.
Coach is a lot of fun. She can sometimes get carried away and distracted, but wants her students to do well and is willing to help. Homework is sufficient and is checked at end of the year in one binder check.
She is seriously the most chill down to earth person ever. That being said, some may not like that in a prof. A few people in my class thought she was too laid back, even me sometimes. But, she is extremely caring and does teach well. She answers emails even at 2am. She is funny and loves math which makes it less of a pain to learn. Love ya coach!
Always available to help you with questions or homework. Really wants you to understand the processes rather than memorization. Class is difficult in itself, she makes the subject easier to understand.
Took her for Pre Calc, one of the best professors Ive ever had and I looked forward to her class. Shes a wonderful person, I wish more Math professors were like her at Oakland University. Shes cares about her students and is always available to talk. If you fail her class is it your fault. She's hilarious too. I wish she taught Calc1 and Calc2.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She assigns a lot of written hw and she takes forever to grade. She always sounds like she's questioning herself when she's teaching and she gets distracted easily. For the exams she only shows two questions at once and makes us wait until we can view the next questions.
Very understanding. Hilarious. Always there to help in the weekends. I would have gotten higher grade without the pandemic.
Coach does not respond to emails that quickly but she does hold optional zoom classes on weekends to help which is very kind of her. Her lectures can be long and slow but she doesn't grade super harsh and definitely cares for her students. She's an awesome lady but could use a little more organization with her moodle page.
She is a great person but her teaching method is mediocre. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt since all classes were online this year but I did not enjoy this class at all. She will give you an incomplete if you dont show work on one question. I wouldnt recommend her at all.
Out of all the precalc profs at OU, TAKE KARI. Her Moodle page is confusing and the class as a whole seemed a bit disorganized, but she CARES, she will HELP YOU, she wants you to pass. She's a very picky grader but all math profs are. Her lectures were not boring and I found her exams very, very easy as long as you go to lecture and do the homework
As a person I would rate her a perfect 5/5. She is caring and sweet and overall a great person. I had the misfortune of having her as an online teacher. On paper the why she has here homework set up seems nice. but there is a metric ton of it and you will never have a day off from this class. even on University breaks there is still homework due.
Coach is a great person. Its insane how much time she spends making sure we do well. She gets on zoom during off hours. Still, its very hard to do well in this class; her lectures are confusing and should be recorded, the tests are hard, and the OU math department is poo. We had a huge snapchat group for class, it helped me pass, I recommend it.
An enjoyable class overall. It is important to attend the lectures and do all the homework.
Super strict for no reason, her office hours are horrendous and expects your entire life to revolve around her class and is super rude whenever anyone brings up any criticism to her even if the ENTIRE class complains and feels the same way
Very picky grader.
As a person she is really nice. However, as a professor she is the exact opposite. There wasn't a lot of homework in the beginning of the semester, but towards the end she really piled up. She doesnt grade fast, & doesn't return emails. I felt always confused & overwhelmed during her lectures. Also a VERY tough & strict grader!!
Prof. Wasen is a great professor as a person, but her class is very hard. One of the things that I dislike about her is her ability to give back our grades in a timely fashion and her tests are very hard because she is a tough and strict grader. Overall, she is a very nice and dedicated teacher to her kids.
Prof. Wasen is a great professor as a person, but her class is very hard. One of the things that I dislike about her is her ability to not give back our grades in a timely fashion and her tests are very hard because she is a tough and strict grader. Overall, she is a very nice and dedicated teacher to her kids.
This professor grade tests very harshly. She is careless and make mistakes during lectures. The professor does not respond to emails and has excuses like, I have multiple classes to teach etc. If she can not handle multiple classes then, why did she signed up for those classes? I deeply regret taking the course with this professor.
Professor Wasen is amazing! This was the first math class I had to take in YEARS and she made it easy for me! Very attentive if you needed help or had questions. If you are a Moodle user, it is not very organized, you have to guess where things are. All in all, easy to pass if you know what you're doing. She is probably better in person!
I struggle with math and I LOVED this professor. There were multiple times I stayed up until 1am on a Friday/Saturday on Zoom getting help before exams. Heads up- she doesn't grade tests or assignments in a timely manner! There are a lot of assignments but it's a buffer for exams. You have to show up and put in the work to do well in her class.
Coach is truly caring. She gets sidetracked a bit and doesn't cover enough problems to master mth. I spent hours watching youtube teaching myself. She dedicates many hours to help students, stays up till midnight every Friday and Saturday for anyone who needs help and always offers help after every class. Lots of homework but it's practice!
Very caring and wants you to succeed. Do the homework so you understand the tests, which are the largest portion of your grade. Not a math person at all yet this class didn't stress me out too much. Stays up with you on Fridays and Saturdays, even other days at times, to help you. Fast responses to emails, too. 10/10 would recommend.
Coach is an amazing person and very understanding, but as a Professor, I will say do not take her. Did not understand any of the material in her class, she never responds to emails unless you ask her for an extension on webassign. Her exams are hard and are weighted at 52%, which is ridiculous. Overall don't take this course unless you wanna fail
Coach was honestly a pretty good professor, she is very open to questions and is accessible all the time. She grades really slow and her teaching method is mediocre, she does give you all the tools to do well in her class though.
Prof wasen is crazy.. but in a good way. It's very clear that online learning is NOT her thing and the amount of homework she gives should be a crime. If you want to suceed in her class go to her office hours and make sure you understand the homework. Just going to lecture is not enough if you struggle with math. Also P.S do not take this and chem!
A good choice for disabled students like me. She's one of the kind ones who cares. Keep in mind that there's LOTS of homework, but it's balanced out by how helpful and accessible she is. You can easily meet with her outside of class, and her lectures are slow and easy to follow. She is also willing to go back and cover topics you aren't clear on.
Absolutely loved her. I am painfully bad at math and Coach is fully understanding of that. She's available around 5hrs every single night and provides so much help and feed back A really great professor
No... just no. If you love homework, take her, because you will have a TON of it. She only likes when you do the work her way and will give you 50% on a majority of your homework, no matter if the answers were correct or not. She showed up 20 minutes late to the final exam, and she is only available for office hours from about 7pm-12am. Good luck..
This is an entry level pre-calc class and I expected it to be as such but it has been terrible. I am In the second week of school for this class and have had more homework than I have for all of my classes combined from this. Do not recommend way too much work for anyone to do and have a social life, hobbies or fun honestly.
Holy Heck. There is no way she gives you an F on homework just for having one step wrong. But she does. This is no way to grade your students. She also never specifies what you are doing wrong. Waste of money and time. SI is a joke.
The SI has made me understand the topics clearly. Not the professor. This professor grades homework like you have committed crimes against the Geneva convention. Never have I gotten a good grade for getting all of the questions right. If I get them all right, Ill be lucky to get a B. If I get one wrong, instant fail. Please avoid this professor.
This professor is on the biggest power trip ever. Her grading should be considered a war crime and she is EXTREMELY unprofessional, she was smoking what i believe to be a joint and eating skittles in the middle of the online lecture which she does in her car right after waking up from a nap.
She is my best professor at OU forever ! She cares about her students and she explains the material well. She likes to help her students. The exams are really EASY, TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!
This professor should not grade the homework like she does. Although she is willing to help you understand the topic more, this portion of the class did not help me in any way. She does go through the problems slow when doing notes, but the problems on the notes are way more simple than one ones you will see on the test.
I would not recommend "Coach" Wasen. 91 homework assignments, many of them not graded until the day of the test they were for. Homeworks and tests graded extremely harshly. Do not expect to get partial credit on problems. Will not respond to emails, and office hours go well past midnight. Professor Wasen is a nice person, but I cannot recommend her
If you want to pass precalculus take it with this professor. I struggled with math and was a difficult subject with me. Coach (aka professor Wasen) is extremely helpful and will teach you to love math. Exams are based off HW and topics in class. She is available outside of class to help you. If you make an honest effort you will do great.
ive had her for 2 weeks.
How does she have a high rating. one of the worst classes Ive taken. Will give horrid feedback and almost make fun of you for doing bad on hw/tests
You can show work, and get a correct answer and still fail the problem. It needs to be done step by step, exactly the same as she shows in class, with no exceptions. Multiple online and written assignments make the class have a lot of hw. Youtube and the TI were more helpful learning than she was. She is willing to give a lot of her time to help
In my opinion she a very good professor. Yes she goes hard on all the notations and how she wants things written, but if you just follow the directions you should be fine. The material is not hard, and she will even stop and ask students if they want her to go over anything. I would most definitely take her again.
She is quite accessible outside of class for help, but her grading is impossible. An F even if the process and answers are correct, because they weren't written exactly as she wanted. Have had to fight for every single grade in every single assignment the entire semester. Will be reporting a complaint.
One of the best MTH profs at OU. She values the quality of questions over the quantity. She gives step-by-step explanations of problems and her exams reflect her lectures. You will have to spend a lot of time on homework, both written and on Webassign, but compared to other profs her homework actually prepares you and you can always resubmit.
stay away
Extremely difficult homework which did not prepare me for the exams. She automatically grades F on some assignments and forces you to go to her late office hours. She claims to have a stress free environment but that is sadly not the case
Absolutely terrible, if things aren't written her way she grades it "just keep swimming" and its a 0, I am an A B average student and this has been the worst class I've ever taken. She has so many assignments and her office hours are at like 12 am. She always seemed to be out of it during class and would ramble off . would HIGHLY NOT recommend
She did not give helpful feedback, and waited til the last minute to grade assignments, which made it extremely difficult for me to understand where i was at in the class. coursework is unorganized and confusing. avoid taking her class if you can.
While the material isn't hard, Coach does not teach clearly. All tests are written, and you must write each step the way she wants you to write it, meaning word for word. You can't do steps in your head or you'll lose points. I would not recommend taking Coach's class, but if you must, you can succeed, it's just a lot more effort than necessary.
She makes basic math much more difficult than needed. Most take this class as a basic math requirement, and she makes it difficult to do well in the class. She gives lots of homework, but she is a very tough grader. She is not easy to get in touch with outside of class. Her office hours are also very inconsistent and odd times. Would not recommend
While she is a very caring person she does not know hot to teach. Anytime there is a test she shows up late and then leaves again to print the test. She makes class more confusing than it needs to be. If you dont follow her steps you wont get the credit. Many people forgot to put an = sign and got lots of points taken away. office hours are late.
I dont even know where to start with herSHE IS THE WORST/HORRIBLE TEACHER!HER UNIT TESTS ARE NOTHING LIKE WEBASSIGNAND HER LECTURES.SHE TAKES POINTS OFF FOR NOT HAVING EQUAL SIGNS like r you joking?Adds new material that she teaches a day before the unit exam and makes it mainly half of her test worth out of 150 points!Don't bother considering her!
All through grade school I was horrible at math. I came into college super nervous to be taking a college math class, luckily I had Professor Wasen. She truly cares about her students success and is always more than willing to help you. Do the homework, it is the best study tool and show up to class.
She is so wonderful as a person but is really bad at teaching. I could tell she cares but I don't think being a professor is the right job for her. Slightly disorganized, prepare yourself to be confused 60% of the time.
This is the only teacher I've had that makes math make sense to me.
Good person, but is not a good teacher. Very rough on grading for exams (exams are worth 50 percent of your grade, not including the final). For example she will take points off for not putting down equal signs. I'm not even joking. She writes down notes and expects you to understand it, unless you raise your hand and ask a question.
I do not like her as a teacher. she expects notes to be a certain way, or you'll get points off. she gives to online assignments of homework each class even if class was canceled. she doesn't explain things well so it's easy to get confused. I would definitely not take a class with her again.
Horrible Teacher, she does not compromise for students no matter the situation. Very picky when it comes to grading test, even if you get the right answer, you won't receive credit if she doesn't understand the work shown. Tons of unnecessary conversation and unnecessary links on her Moodle page. Once again horrible teacher
This is the worse professor I have had. She makes basic math that you learn in high school a lot harder than it has to be. Very tough grader, if you forget a = sign or a + sign you get marked down. The homework has nothing to do with her lectures. Makes you buy the hard copy book for 50 dollars and I have not even opened it.
DO NOT listen to the good reviews. I would not recommend taking her. Worst math professor I ever had and she will tank your GPA. This class should be so easy but she makes it much harder than it should be. Exams are worth so much of your grade, and she will take off points for not liking how you wrote the answer, even if it's correct.
Attendance isn't mandatory, all homework is done through Cengage which costs about $150 for the software and book DO NOT buy the hard copy of the book!!! The book is all online, and even give example videos in the homework. She does make the criteria easy to understand.
This professor was alway 20 minutes late even to our final. Took over 4 weeks to grade exams. HARD grader. I didn't know my final grade until the final. She never has grades in. doesn't look at emails and said "don't email me". Has favorite students and its obvious. We never get notes so if you don't take good notes this will be a hard class.
I really enjoyed this class. She was a great professor and taught all the information very clearly. The class is not super difficult if you take good notes and do all the homework. I recommend this professor for this class.
Avoid her like the plague. If you have to take her, go to every lecture, because if you do not do every problem exactly the way she does it and I mean EXACTLY, you will lose points on the test. Precalc isnt too hard, and she makes it harder than it needs to be.
you have to do formulas and write things on paper exactly how she does or you get marked for it. Sometimes i think she's on something.
By far the worst math instruction I've ever read. if your work isn't a direct 1:1 replica of hers you lose points. she wants the work to be easy for her to grade, it doesn't matter your methodology or approach to problem solving if it's not matching hers you are wrong. She's a nice and wonderful lady, but awful at teaching.
she is one of the best professor I had so far .
Her tests are awful. You have to follow her notes 1 to 1. If you deviate slightly (like not having a subscript once) you WILL have points taken off, both on homeworks & tests. Speaking of homework, it's graded on accuracy, and she will assign them at weird times. She was helpful if you ask questions (which is why she's not a 1), but don't take her
Look, I'm going to be very honest. Don't read any other reviews; just read mine. I'm an atheist, but being in her class has made me start reading about religion. and to choose one for each exam. I promise some days I won't wear my seat belt BECAUSE I WISH SOMETHING WOULD HAPPEN ON THE WAY TO HER CLASS.
Cool person, below-average prof. She takes off points for stupid reasons on exams. You'd think for someone who struggled with math would be lenient, but it's the complete opposite. I had anxiety before entering the lecture hall. Best way to study for her exams are by redoing the notes given in class, trust me. Do that first THEN practice.
She is pretty disorganized and comes into class late often. She breaks down the math so it makes things easier. If you do not do the work on the test exactly how she does it in class, you will get points off. She gives points off for ridiculous things, so be very careful when taking tests. She only responds to emails AT NIGHT.
