Dr. Asghari was a great teacher, really helpful,offers reviews prior to exams. Expect to spend $70 + for a CD/Class notes. He gives tons of extra credit,roughly 1 whole letter grade in extra credit he offers per exam.Makeups - killer and in writing only!!

Not a bad science. It's a lot easier than I expected, though going to lecture is necessary. There is a lot (6-10 points) of extra credit on every test. The accompanying lab is also fairly easy.

such an easy class if u study. if u go to the review sessions that he holds the day before the test, he tells you what to study. and gives a lot of points in extra credit!

I have no trouble understanding his lectures. He's been in the US for a long time- there's only remnants of an accent. He's very helpful, and the class is pretty straight-forward. Topic is interesting, and he does a lot to apply it to real-life situations.

Dr. Asghari is a graet professor, kind of hard to understand at first, but you get use to his accent. Go to class every day so you dont miss out on easy extra credit points, and go to the review sessions, very helpful!

Not the best teacher ive had. Accent is hard to understand at first. Cuts down reading so that it is bearable and lectures are kinda boring. some test questions are ambiguous and a leap from lecture material. other than that many questions are directly from notes and he gives 15 pts of E.C which in my opinion are NOT that easy but available. easy B

People complain that his accent is hard to understand but they are just complaining. MCB 2000 was very easey. I never read the chapters and got an A. Just read the notes and the pratice exams. A lot of notes are from teh pratice exams.

Asghari is a GREAT professor!! one of my favorites since being here @ UF!! very easy A as long as you go to lecture and study the notes and practice questions! Not a bad class. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Like a lot of people said, the book wasn't used very much. Just make sure you take note of what he says to study when you go to lecture.

Professor Asghari was one of the best profs I have ever had. This course single-handedly conviced me to change my major to microbiology. The lectures are. He is an awesome professor and is incredibly helpful. The Cd is great! All professors should do this, you save TONS of money by not having to buy the book. Many opportunities for extra credit!!

Soooo helpful. He really knows what he's talking about and is very informative. CD is GREAT!!!!! Overall if you have the cd and actually use it, expect an A.

Dr. Asghari is a good instructor. The class is really early, and I fell asleep nearly everyday, but you have no choice really. The concepts in class are sort of difficult, but the tests are pretty easy even if you don't exactly understand everything and there are many extra credit opp. Don't buy the book, you don't need it just need the coursepack.

Wonderful teacher! He was interesting, humorous, and cute! I was actually interested in microbiology with him. He gives TONS of extra credit opportunities in class and really cares about his students doing well. He's a great teacher, pretty easy, makes things clear and I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. A is a great professor. He definitely knows the subject and brings in alot of information that you can relate to the real world to make class interesting. He really is adorable. really easy teacher. if you study the notes packet that you can buy at gator textbook and do the practice tests included in it then you will get an A on every test. he is a pretty good lecturer but speaks really softly so it is hard to hear him sometimes.

Attendance is a must since he explains what's on lecture coursepack. Don't buy the book and he doesn't give extra credit from cd...he gave us extra credit quiz 1-3 but that's it. It was somewhat interesting.

You gotta work hard for an A. He has a soft voice and an accent so it's hard to listen to him lecture. Only buy the course pack and listen to him lecture b/c that's what his exams focus on. The teacher makes this class very interesting. You have to study for the tests but if you mess up u can always take the cummulative final. Class is very early (7:20 in the morning). For the 1st test I didnt go to class and got a C on my test. For the rest of the tests I went to class everyday and got A's on the rests of the tests. So go to class!

The material wasn't that difficult and the tests were doable. The cumulative final wasn't that bad either if you have to takit. He also does reviews which helps.

Not too bad of a class once you get the hang of it...definitely go to class for the extra credit quizes, and definitely go to the reviews before the exams...if you have any other questions he is helpful in office hours...go over the tests after you take them especially if you take the optional final...make tables and index cards and you'll do fine

I didn't go to a single day of class (not even the first day, syllabus is on the course website). I just bought the course pack and the day before each exam I pored over the slides, studied the practice exams hard, and then looked over it all once more before taking the exam. I got 90, 90, 98 and 90 on the 4 exams. EASY!

He is a great professor and very understanding. Attendence is mandatory because the test are based on his notes but the class is very early (7:25) Do the study guide and practice questions more than once and you will get an A

The class is not too difficult. Do the exam review he gives you, study the slides, go to class, and you should be fine. He's a really nice guy; a little hard to understand at times, but always willing to help. Other than the fact that it's an early class, it's not too bad.

Asghari is a good professor, course is well organized. Do the practice tests in the course pack and the exam review sheets he sends out before the tests. Course is graded on 4 out of 5 exams, so the final can replace one. I am a business major, took this as a gen-ed and got an A-. It did take a bit of work though.

Great lecturer and really nice guy. Goes out of his way to offer test reviews, extra credit quizzes (if you attend class), etc. Go to class and do all the practice tests and you'll be fine. If you slack and never attend anything (Ahem, person below me) then obviously you won't get a good grade!

Coming to class is not mandatory, but it's best to come for the extra credit quizes. DONT buy the book its a waste of time and money. just my the packet and learn it from top to bottom.

He is the nicest guy in the world. DO NOT show up to class late or leave early, he hates it. Be respectfully and genuinely show an interest in class. The exams are based heavily on practice exams in the course pack, don't bother studying the slides much unless he mentions it in particular.

Study the quizzes for the exams. Ask lots of questions about the labs, I think his directions are confusing and I usually forgot them once he finished explaining. Study the labs before class so you do well on the quizzes and you should get a good grade.

Nice Professor! He goes the extra mile to help students. I took this class Summer A 2010, made a 94, 100, 100, 96. It's really an easy A if you go to class, study the slides and do the review questions in the course pack.

He is an awesome guy. however lecture is a little weird. I didnt like this class. i would study for every test and end up with a high C. the extra credit helped. I know there are people that get 100 on the test i honestly think that they have a cheating method. idk. its a good class but beware of test!

He is a really great professor, he really wants you to learn. Attd. is not mandatory but he gives extra credit if you do. Study the review guide you fill in yourself, don't study the practice questions like they did in the past. Bottom line: Come to class, take notes, and study what he says is important. easy class just a lot of memorizing so don't think you can cram for exams or watch the lectures last minute. this is a great class to take while taking physiology. ALOT of the information that you will learn in this class will parallel information being learned in physiology which will make your life much easier.

Literally the best professor I've ever had. the entire semester he was so helpful and kind, and genuinely cared about his students. While the class was somewhat difficult, he always made time to go over the material again, which definitely helped me understand the concepts better. His lectures are ALL online...be sure to watch them in a timely manner as you cannot cram for his exams. That being said, his exams are very easy if you study. All exam material comes from lectures, easy to memorize, questions can be badly worded but he will be fair about awarding points for his mistakes. Getting an A can be challenging but there is no reason to get less than a B.

Dr. Asghari is great. My class with him was online, but my occasional interactions with him were wonderful. He bent over backwards to make himself available to students and always responded promptly to emails. His course was informative and challenging, but not frustratingly difficult. He does have a noticeable accent, but it never bothered me.

Dr. Asghari is a really nice and helpful professor, but can be pretty difficult to understand. To study, make sure you read the slides thoroughly and take the practice tests as many times as possible, they can give you hints on the real exam. I managed a B in the class and never once picked up the textbook, do NOT buy it.

He is very articulate and has a natural gift in teaching. I really enjoyed coming to class and never felt bored, because he was always so enthusiastic and entertaining.He taught a challenging course and I definitely learned a lot.

His exam questions are based on what he says during his lectures. Make sure you write down everything that comes out of his mouth, especially if he mentions it TWICE. If you plan on skipping the lectures and just memorizing the slides you'll end up with n F.

Loved this class! Overall it wasn't too difficult. Just keep up with the lectures and take notes. When you study focus on the study guide, notes and lectures. Whatever he says is basically on the test. Buying the book isn't necessary, I never used it while I was in his class. Don't fall behind!! That's the worst since his lectures are pretty slow.

This class is straight forward. Lectures are posted online. They're a bit dry, but watch them and annotate your notes. Reading is assigned and is good for reinforcement. The notes have everything you need to make an A. He offers a lot of extra credit too.

Definitely the easiest of the pre-med classes. Smokin Notes are helpful as his lectures bounce around a lot and can be kind've hard to follow. Offered 20 points of extra credit this semester.

This class is great. I would take it again if I could. I loved Dr. Asghari; it is true that his lectures are dry but if you really pay attention and take good notes, you will have a great experience. I loved this class & would 100% take it again. Lectures were long, but very interesting if you are going into the health field. He's very knowledgable & offered a ton of office hours. Exams weren't bad & he offers practice exams which are VERY similar to the actual exams. Plus, he offered a TON of extra credit points!

His lectures are clear and organized. All the test questions are tricky and meant to confuse you. The questions are in the format: "All the of following are true except, or all of the following are false except." And the answer choices would be: one of these, two of these, none of the above, all are false, all are correct. Hard tests. Be ready.

The class overall is definitely not easy. Going to class was not mandatory, instead he posted pre-recorded lectures online which are critical to watch. Everything on the exams are in those lectures, while the book is not necessary to read at all. Requires a lot of memorization.

This class should be an easy A/A- with some effort. SmokinNotes ended up being a waste of money as I ended up just watching lecture. Take notes on lecture, do the practice exams the SI leaders post. Glance at the Study Guides he posts to make sure you know what's on them. Test are tricky at times, so give yourself at least 2-3 days studying time.

Dr. Asghari has to be one of the best professors at UF. He really genuinely cares for students and wants them to do well. There are so many resources available for you it's amazing! It is heavy material and I mean what science class doesn't require effort? Never used smokin notes.

He was nice, always responded to my emails when I wanted clarification about lecture material. There's only 4 exams, worth 100 points each. He gives you 4 extra credit opportunities for each exam where you have to do an extra reading and take a 10 question quiz, worth 5 points for each quiz, not too hard. Curves exams. Study and you'll be good!!

You can earn 20 points of extra credit, so you need an average of an 85 on all the tests to get an A which is doable. Watch the lectures and take notes; Smokinnotes were helpful too. Be prepared since the multiple choice format is specific i.e all of the above, none of the above, B and D etc.

MCB 2000 is one of the easiest science classes I have taken at UF. All of your grades come from exams, but he gives you 5 bonus points per exam and you get 2 bonus questions on the exam itself (another 5 pts). Everything you need to know is in the lecture. I found that the best way to study was to 1) watch all the lectures, 2) do the study guide.

Lectures give absolutely no indication of how detailed and confusing the questions on the exam will be so make sure you really really know your stuff or use outside help for studying. Interesting guy, enjoyed the lectures, but need to work a bit to get a good grade.

Exams are very tricky! Beware. If you don't know your stuff you won't do well. Smokin Notes are a MUST. They are all you need to pass the class. You don't really need Connect ($80) unless you want to take his practice exams (which give you extra credit). However these practice exam question don't appear on the test. Again, Smokin Notes is your BFF.

I don't really know why people complain about this class. General bio is way harder. Smoking notes is key to success, you don't even have to watch the lectures. The amount EXTRA CREDIT is insane, I had over an 100% in the class the entire semester. His accent is really not as bad as people say it is, if you do decide to watch the lectures.

Went in thinking class would be a breeze. The information is not exactly simple. There is a textbook, and I specifically studied the textbook for the first two exams, and did ok. The second two exams paid attention to the lectures and did well. Your grades come from four exams over the semester, but there is a lot of extra credit. Gotta study.

As with most online courses, your grade is a reflection of your effort. If you keep up with lectures, you should do well. Some lectures can be dry, but no overly difficult concepts are covered. The test question format can be tricky, but there are many extra credit quizzes to balance this out. If you do the study guide in full, you should do well.

Dr. Asghari was an amazing professor he explains everything so you can understand well. Watch all the lectures online so you can pause them and take detailed notes. Do the study guide, and know everything in your notes. Lots of extra credit! You should be able to do very well in this class.

Your grade is based entirely on exams, but there is a TON of extra credit (enough to go from B- to A). My best advice would be to fill in the study guides as you watch the lectures and DO THE PRACTICE TESTS. He draws a lot of questions from them. I also found the "Smart Book" to be helpful too because it had quizzes. I thought he was very fair.

4 difficult exams. 4 extra credit quizzes. 4 extra credit practice exams. He gives 4 study guides, posts all the material on canvas, and you take the exams on ProctorU. Don't try to cram (way too much material that can be easy to confuse) and you'll do fine.

I took this course Fall 2016, it is information dense and a lot of information to take in since lectures are online. I watched every lecture and took notes, went to his office hours which were helpful, and I used smokin notes to prepare for each exam. The course is interesting and it takes effort to get a good grade. A good grade is possible!

I took his class in the spring. He makes it VERY clear how he wants you to study for exams. I didn't read the book and I was one of the 8 people who showed up to his 8:30 am lectures. Keys to do well: DO THE STUDY GUIDE, TAKE THE PRACTICE TESTS...A LOT. Seriously, questions for the exams come from the practice tests and study guide.

Took Dr. Asghari for both MCB5252 and MCB6937/3020 in the same semester. The perfect example of a tough (yet fair) professor. His tests are very difficult and there is a lot of material to learn, but he gives about 1 letter-grade worth of *helpful* extra credit assignments, not busy work.A great transition into grad school.

Dr. Asghari is a very good professor. He cares about students, tries his best to be accessible, and has an obvious passion for microbiology. His MCB3020 requires a lot of studying to do well on exams (which is expected), but an A is very easily attainable if you complete the extra credit assignments and take an interest in the subject matter.

Plenty of extra credit was given and he made it very clear how to study for exams. Watch the lectures, take notes, do the study guide, and know the study guide very well. Yes, exam questions were tricky but you can get past them if you know what he said in the lectures. Don't just read the book. He says most exam material comes from the lectures.

I love this man. He is one of the few professors at UF that actually cares about his students. Yes, his accent is thick, but you get used to it. Incredibly fair class with ample amounts of extra credit to boost your grade! It is true that the exams have confusing answer choices (A, B &C, All, None), but if you really study and take your time during the exam, you will know what he is asking! Skip reading the textbook and just get smokin notes!

Definitely not an EASY class, but you'll do okay if you just study! He gives A LOT of extra credit so initially if you have a C, it can easily bump you up to an B. His accent is thick as well so try to pay attention to his lectures.

I loved this professor! He made the criteria for the exams really clear and pretty much everything came from his lectures. Exams are straightforward. In my class he gave 4 exams, each 25% of grade. But, he gave quizzes that amounted to a total of 11.5% on the final grade. Super enjoyable class and I really learned a lot.

I genuinely enjoyed this Professor. He knows the material and really seems to care about teaching his students. He is lecture heavy, but he is very transparent on what you will be tested on, and gives extra credit opportunities, a study guide, and a practice exam. You walk away having actually learned something, which lets be honest, is rare.

His class is extremely easy to get an A in, it just takes work. With the extra credit, you only need an 80% on 4 exams to get an A. As much as it sucks, watch the lectures. He alludes to the answers of questions he will put on his exams. You've got to know the material well since a lot of his exam Q's are "all of the above/NOTA" and "2 of these".

Dr. Asghari is a very passionate professor. He knows what he's talking about and really just wants you to succeed. He gives 10 pts extra credit for every exam (if you get a 70 on the exam, its really an 80 if you do the extra credit quiz). The quizzes are all online and have answers on quizlet so it is easy. His exams are really fair. Easy A.

Class is very straightforward and structured. Very generous extra credit on each exam, and gives you a study guide that goes over almost every topic on the exam. Do the practice tests online a couple times and you should be more than fine. Interesting class and grading is very fair.

Use the study guides and practice exams that he posts as the questions on the exam are very similar to the ones asked on the study guide and practice exams. Watch every lecture too cause he pulls a lot of questions from there as well. He's very smart and knows what he's talking about.

The only grades for this course are the 4 exams. Each exam you can earn up to 10 extra credit points through online quizzes. You need to get a 90 on each exam to get an A, so with the 10 extra credit points you only need an 80 on each exam. If you read the Smokin' Notes the week up to the exam you will be fine! Just study hard and don't stress!

Extremely knowledgeable professor in microbiology. Exams can be tricky because he likes to throw in a lot of "all of the above" or "none of the above" questions, so you really gotta know the stuff. An A is definitely manageable with the EC, practice exams and study guides. Very fair on grading. Blaming his english wont get you the A, just STUDY.

Not an easy class. Information isn't that complex for a science class, but tests have very difficult and specific question. Most questions come from the lectures which are great, if you can get past his accent (don't need to read book). Test questions have grammatical errors, but EC makes up for that. Good class, but not easy as others have said.

The online lectures were very interesting and manageable. Exams were somewhat difficult but are very straightforward. If you take good notes and read the textbook, you will do great.

Actually doing the study guide (not copying someone else's answers and reading them) and Smokin Notes are both extremely helpful for the exams. Knowing both of these well will really help you out in the long run, although it can be a lot of work!

This class is almost entirely based on lecture (so you have to watch them all) and if you fill out his study guide YOURSELF and do the extra credit you will be totally fine. I didn't use SmokinNotes and was totally fine. I only used the book a few times for the study guide. The exams are easy if you do the study guide well.

Although your grade is based off of 4 exams, he still gives you ample opportunities for extra credit, which is extremely helpful, considering how some of the exam questions can be tricky. Asghari makes the material easy to understand and also applicable to real life. This easily became one of my favorite courses I have taken at UF.

I took this grad level course a few months ago and wanted to come back and leave a review. During the COVID-19 pandemic this professor was very kind to his students and sent out weekly emails telling everyone he was available to talk during the difficult time. To whoever reading this, please make sure to appreciate your professors.

Dr. Asghari uploaded recorded lectures from an in-person semester, which I think was better than live zoom lectures. He seems like a great professor to take in person, and he is very informed on current research for the information covered. He is very thorough in his teaching and expects you to have a thorough knowledge of the material covered.

Great professor, but you basically teach yourself everything. The lecture videos are not very helpful. Reading the required textbook readings and doing the study guide is how you'll do good on the exams. Plenty of extra credit that help quite A LOT! Your grade is based off 4 exams, that's it. There are extra credit quizzes though. Would recommend!

Truly one of the best professors ive had at UF. Makes the content oversimplified so you actually understand it; goes over topics again and again so you actually understand it. Very thorough. Watching the lectures is the only way to pass- even he says all exam questions come from his lectures.

Exams make up 100% of your grade. However, there are up to 40 points of extra credit. This class is an easy A due to the extra credit. The lectures are DENSE and old. The material is taught well, it is not hard to understand. Exams were relatively straightforward.

Pros: -A lot of extra credit -Exams aren't that hard -Lectures are pretty easy to understand Cons -He sometimes makes grammar errors that make it hard to understand exactly what he's asking on exams -I think I'm alone in this, but I hated the case study. It took me much longer than I thought it would so start that early. I'd take him again.

I enjoyed Dr. Asghari's class. In the online accelerated Summer course we had exams every week so you need to stay on top of the lectures or you will not do well in them. Extra Credit helps as well. Questions are straightforward you just need to know the material. Definitely would take again he is a great teacher and his lecture videos were solid.

His lectures are really easy to understand! He uploaded lectures online from the past and it really helps. In his lectures he tends to repeat himself a lot but it nails it in your head. SO MUCH extra credit!

This class has recorded lectures from in person lectures which is super helpful. He offers two extra credit quizzes that add at most 10% onto your exam, but the answers are on Quizlet so it's impossible to get them wrong. The grade is based of 4 exams but they aren't bad and he explains concepts well in his lectures.

Lots of extra credit up to 10 per exam (4 exams). Easy class all you need to do is study and do the practice questions on mastering microbiology. Get Smokin notes if you have to but it is not necessary. I studied on Quizlet made by previous students and it helped me a lot. Exams are proctored with a side view camera

Professor Asghari is a great teacher in my opinion. He makes the tests 100% based on this he goes over on the lectures and he gives recaps of each lecture in the next lecture. He gives A LOT of extra credit (enough to raise a whole letter grade) and his exams are very very fair. Understand the lectures and take detailed notes and study quizlets.

Dr. Asghari was very helpful throughout the semester. Anytime you needed extra assistance, he was a phone call away. His lectures were very informative and I really enjoyed watching them. Make sure you watch them through out the course and not right before the exams.

Prof Asghari is very nice and he really cares about his students. His lectures are long and he does stutter a lot. The lectures and the study are all you need for the exams. Smoking notes can help but it's not necessary. Also do the extra credit quizzes! You will thank me later. Overall good class

The 100% test format was intimidating, but I was fine using Smokin' Notes. Honestly, I would watch all 8, hour-long lecture a week or 2 days before exams while reading Smokin' Notes, and I retained a lot. The prerecorded lectures sounded awful. The exams are SPECIFIC! The EC made my B an A. The textbook has practice materials and the EC.

Dr. Asghari truly cares about his students. Even though exams are 100% of your grade, he is very generous with extra credit and is accessible for students. Smokin Notes is helpful to summarize his lectures which are pretty long and dense. Take advantage of the extra credit quizzes because it boosts your grade a lot!

Passed entirely on SmokinNotes. First exam I didn't need SmokinNotes because it was stuff I learned in high school + common sense, the tests are very easy. I had over 100% in the class at some point from EC but ended up with a 98% even though I was scoring in the 80-90 range for exams. External camera is required for this class though.

This professor was very helpful in class lectures and made the content very understandable. I paired lectures with smokin notes and it helped to solidify my knowledge since I was able to see the information multiple times. The class only have extra credit quizzes and exams and does require a lot of memorization.

After a previously terrible Microbio experience (forced to drop), Dr. Asghari was a breath of fresh air. He gives fair exams and good lectures (although hard to decipher at times). If you have the money SmokinNotes will give you a guaranteed A in the class. Overall, good professor and class.

Professor Asghari is fantastic. He really wants students to succeed. He is clear about what to expect on exams and his lectures help hammer in the main points. Four exams make up your whole grade, but extra credit is available to apply to each exam score. Glad I took this course.

Definitely recommend taking the practice exams since they are similar to the real exams. Dr. Asghari does a good job at explaining specific concepts. Also, I recommend Smokin Notes the suggested study guide responses and physical flash cards are very helpful.

There's always at least a few question on the exam taken directly from the practice exams. Another great resource was Smokin Notes, they give answers to his study guide questions. really liked this class and professor!

Dr. Asghari is a really good professor, he is caring and understanding of circumstances. Your grade is made up of 4 exams and Pearson assignments. All of the lectures are pre-recorded and open for the week. If you study leading up to the exams, you will be fine. He extended one of our exams and gave us an end-of-semester extra credit opportunity.

I took this as a summer A class, which I don't necessarily recommend. The class was doable, but challenging because it was such a short time period. Exams were harder than I expected, but all the assignments and getting Smokin' Notes helped. Would recommend watching the lectures too. Good prof overall, just wish I took it over a normal semester.

He is so understanding and is genuinely interested in his topics. His excitement for the course always made me feel more engaged and supported. Though the content was not particularly my favorite, I really enjoyed MCB2000 due to Professor Asghari. He is also very clear about exam contents and his expectations for the course.

It was very easy to get an A in this course. I never even watched the lectures, just did the study guides. His lectures can be boring but smokin notes carried my grade. Overall, he's a very nice guy and is responsive to questions about the course material. He always does a review session a week before the exam, which is super generous.

The lectures can be very long, but they include all the information needed for exams. He gives out a comprehensive study guide with all the learning objectives that will on the exam, and a vast majority of his questions come from that. He also responds quickly to email and loves it when people as questions. Easy A if you put in effort.

Dr. Asghari is very approachable. Keep up with the material instead of cramming at the last minute because its a lot of information. Smokin notes organizes information well and is very helpful in this course.

Such a caring professor. I love microbiology so this class was interesting to me. Not very hard, weekly homework (take 2 hours or so), weekly quizzes (10 questions), 4 exams (non-cumulative), some perusall, 2 extra credits. His lectures give all the info for exam, just long.

Great professor and amazing lectures. There are readings after each lecture but take no longer than half and hour. Does not take late work but leaves assignments open for a little over a week. Fairly easy assignments and the tests are based all on the lectures and are not overly hard because of the practice tests.
