OK class, but she is cool ans smart. Being attractive helps as well.
One of the best teachers I've had. Wish she was teaching some classes.
Online class was cool
fairly easy class, just a lot of reading
Super easy online class, but if you've taken history in high school at all, it's pretty much a review of that.
online class, very easy as long as you do the reading, do not fall behind and do everything on time and u will be fine
Definitley a hottie when it comes to history. Kinda boring but not too tough. Easy reading.
Online class. Expected a lot. Directions not always clear. Kinda rude.
She has great side stories about the topics which kept us interested, but I felt like chapter reviews were busy work since we had to write questions but never got them answered.
Verryy easy A...no attendence taken, a couple of easy papers if you don't leave the reading till the night before. All tests are online, but are timed so looking over material before hand is a must. She's really chill and likes to joke around. Definitely take her if you have to take this class.
She is very easy to understand. Her lectures are simple so expect to have to read on your own. Tests and Essay's are easy. And she's a hottie.
Taking it online not bad, just read the book and write the papers. If you plan online you can do a discussion board post or do the LiveDiscussions which I love because you can interact with the people in your class easily and discuss what you've read. Dr. E is so nice and helpful and replys to emails fast even with 923743723483 students
She's tough!
If anyone says this class is hard they are crazy. Yes you have to read the books but its an online class if you can't read 5 books in a semester when you don't have class then you shouldnt be in college..
Online. Straightforward class. Just do the work and you are guranteed a good grade. Enloe is extremely helpful and friendly in emails. She gives plenty of opportunities for you to do well. The texts were actually really interesting.
This professor was completely ridiculous. I have a 3.6 GPA and usually do great on writing assignments. But everything I turned in I received terrible grades on. One of the papers I spent more time on than I ever have before, making notes, researching, rewritting, etc. and still received a 75. If you are a guy do not take this class.
RUDE! Taking the online class and I have NEVER received such low grades on writing assignments. She is ridiculous. Seriously.
I don't necessarily understand how being a guy determines your grade. I'm a guy, and I got a 95% on the first paper and a similar grade on the midterm. I did do bad on the second paper, but that was my fault. The only problem I have is with the inconsistent grading. The TA seems to go much far beyond what the syllabus allows for the grading of blog
She makes this course a lot harder than it needs to be. Essays are a nightmare. She grades so harshly...and she's also terrible (the worst!) at getting back to your emails. Terrible, terrible professor. I don't care how interested you are in the course, DON'T take anything with her. She doesn't care about your grade.
I rated this professor earlier. However, after finishing the class I have found that she is a terribly inconsistent grader. Moreover, she doesn't really abide by her own syllabus rules. Your grades on assignments are constant moving targets and she doesn't really give students options to contest it, or at least she is selective as to which students
grading seemed inconsistent since sometimes the TA would grade 1/2 of the assignments and she would grade the other but then it would be switched. your grade then becomes really inconsistent. LOTS of reading!! blogs were easy just make sure to follow instructions carefully or you'll get marked down alot.
Had her for HST 109 and her deadlines were ridiculous. And she assigned a lot of what amounted to busy work, 5 discussion topics due NOON by wed, and then 5 more NOON by Friday. Only prof I know who has this kind of deadline.
Took this class online and loved it. If you really want to learn about American culture, take the class! The book selections were great, and as long as you write coherent and thoughtful discussion posts (and follow her instructions) you should do fine. However, she does assign A LOT of reading, so be prepared.
I took this class online. It was a lot of work every week but if you read the chapters and answered the questions following her guidelines its an easy A. I was super nervous about this course from other peoples ratings but it turned out to be very interesting and I enjoyed it alot. Ended with an A which felt awesome!
I took her online class and it was pretty simple. I made sure I emailed the TA to see exactly how we was grading our posts and my grades improved after that. She gives you a lot of time to do the final paper with the guidelines clearly stated. I learned a lot and enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
class was interesting, but I was extremely disappointed with the teacher.TA graded everything and nothing was consistant. There was a blog due every week and I never received full credit on one despite receiving positive comments I had an A throughout the whole class and after the final paper ended up with an 89.3 she wouldn't work with me at all.
Negative instuctor with a limted scope of vision and knowledge of history. Grades hard! gives alot of HW! pop quizes and test! MAkes you watch mundane out of date movies with no relevence to class! Just aviod taking classes with enloe! save yourself the disappointment!
Skip Enloe unless you want your History served with a huge side of political opinions. Watched idiotic videos that weren't at all relevant to the course, but instead meant to sway student's political opinions. Was eager to take the class to learn about American History; three weeks in, I didn't even want to look at her opinions anymore.
Must do the readings for the online class. Questions on essays or paper can be unclear, and when you answer completely, if you didnt examine an opposing view, you will get marked down. Otherwise not too difficult. This is an UD class, so you should expect to work harder. Ive had harder teachers though.
I love History so even a bad class would be great for me. That being said, Professor Enloe was largely absent for most of the class. I did not feel her input for the majority of the class and I felt that the textbook was my primary instructor. I could have bought the textbook and skipped the student loans for that.
Requires tons of reading and expects you to do outside research for papers, quizzes and tests. Grading is inconsistent. Constantly changes syllabus and due dates; creating lots of confusion and easier to blame late turn ins on you.
Not an 'easy A' but an amazing professor if you actually want to learn. And she doesn't just stop at her subject of history. Very good at criticizing grammar and writing style. Helpful for anyone who wants to do the best in school. Those with bad comments most likely tried to skate for an easy A.
Terrible instructor. Constantly was off track based on what was on the syllabus and never updated the syllabus. The books she uses are horrible and dry. She frequently got dates and geography wrong. Grades papers as if she was an english teacher and corrected dates that were previously right to reflect wrong dates. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!
Dr. Enloe is a difficult professor to take an online class from. Using several books, online interactive tools and due dates for an entirely online class was confusing and overwhelming. She also asks questions that are entirely vague but is looking for a specific answer and grades very strict. Good luck...
Dr. Enloe's class was very straight-forward and clear. My class was a lecture course, but as long as you attend class and complete the exam study guides you should do well.
Made the mistake of taking two of her classes right in a row. She is not very clear on her directions and changes her mind on what she wants from you. Lots of books and very repetitive reading. Quiz and tests are essays.
Slow at grading, takes days to answer emails.
Tough class but very interesting material. She is straightforward in her expectations- keep track of due dates on the syllabus and you should be fine. A lot of busy work but overall an enjoyable class.
This class was tough, ton of reading and a lot of work. I think I could've done better if I put more time in. Made the mistake of taking this class with 2 others at the same time. Way too much to do.
Was not real impressed with teacher. She used a blog for my class which was not the best for this class. Books were okay.
Teacher is okay but uses a few books that just repeat the same thing over and over. Hoping for more than just about feminists, if you like that sort of thing than you would like the class.
This class is reading intensive. There are a total of 4 books for this class with an analytical synopsis of 400-500 words due each week. She does reply to emails in a very timely manner. Read the syllabus and do what she asks for each assignment and you will get an A. If you want an easy class with minimal work - this is not it.
Dr. Enloe was a fabulous instructor. I really loved the fact that we read books over mundane and often boring textbooks. The books give a better over all view of the era's we studied. No tests, just essays and discussion questions, which aids in the understanding of the material. Only thing I would change, is her study guide for the final exam.
Syllabus has all the due dates, required readings, and essay prompts from day one. She answered all of my emails in a very timely manner. The material was interesting to me and she had passion for it. It is reading intensive but nothing you can't handle if you prepare.
In depth coverage of major trends in post Civil War US History. You will read 4 - 5 non fiction books. Keep up with the reading and the class is no that hard. Fall behind and you're done. Fair grader, responsive, encouraging, challenges you with follow up posts to discussions. Everything you want in a good teacher.
I enjoyed this course and the material we were required to read. The professor was pretty involved with students, even though it was an online course. I would recommend this course & this professor. The only downside was the amount of reading and writing assignments packed into a 6 week summer course.
Enloe is very wishy-washy on her grading. She is not always clear on what she wants and changes her mind on what she expects of you and your papers. Took her twice and would not recommend.
Cannot make up her mind what she expects of her students. Disappointed in the class. She is very pro-feminine and repeats her books and lectures throughout her classes. Took two of her classes and wish I would have taken something different.
Huge online class, so not a ton of feedback. TONS of reading, writing based. All but one book were very interesting. Due dates are clear. Expectations are clear. Final project was actually fun (short video). I really enjoyed this class and she's a good professor.
I Just took her class and i have to say it was very hard, a lot of reading, and she wasn't a easy grader. I am not very good at history i found cause i did not pass the class. Next time I am coming on here to read reviews first.
Awful teacher, syllabus doesn't make sense. Just like everything else in the class doesn't make sense.
Be ready to read. There is only one test, the final, and only 2 short papers to write. Her lectures are boring and she just reads what you can easily print out.
While she is organized in general, her instructions are vague. She does not allow citing from outside sources even if they are fully credible. She also grades down for not using all of "her" sources even though no instruction was ever given to include all of them. She grades and expects answers based on her own, unstated, expectations.
Karin is extremely belittling. The fact that I am a male I am sure makes her grading more random. She likes to make up rules as she goes like a child would. You can feel her talking down to you from the critiques. I expected more from a supposed doctor. She does NOT give partial credit on anything! If missed one citation, she fails that assignment.
I have a 4.0 GPA and this professor, or as she likes to be called Dr., gave me a bad grade on my first paper because my title was not interesting enough. I spent many hours researching for the paper and there were no other mistakes. I will not be taking another class with this professor.
The assignments are very different and it's hard to adjust your writing. She expects a lot from students. The reading isn't bad, but there's too many books required. The most frustrating part was being told that a "C" grade on an assignment meant that your work was adequate, but not exceptional. Meaning, you did what was asked and nothing more.
I'm a history major & love reading. I enjoyed the assigned books & loved Yellowdig. I hated the partial papers because it was very confusing & I felt it didn't give me the opportunity to become a better writer. Papers I spent least amount working on received good grades but vice versa. I'd take her other classes if there are no partial papers.
Her syllabus insisted we call her "doc" or "doctor," which seemed stiff. Her stiffness there was abated, though, by great reading choices, good feedback on papers, willingness to help w/ questions (better timeliness needed, though), and Yellowdig. If you work hard, she sees it and is far. So, work hard and you'll be fine.
Best class I have ever taken! Learned much more than I expected. She is very clear on her expectations. Breath of fresh air!
The CA has an undergraduate degree in criminal justice. That will be who grades your history papers. The feedback is not helpful. The grading criteria is a mystery. The professor is a bit arrogant. I read these reviews before I took the class and I should have taken heed. There are so many other classes I could have chosen and I wish I had.
I thought this class was very interesting! I liked most of the reading material and found the papers required for this course to be the right length for how short the class was. The grading is a little tough. My first paper was marked down a whole grade because the title did not give enough description. Good class and good Professor!
I loved Professor Enloe when I took HST 328. In taking HST 327 in summer, I hadn't fully realized the mess involved. She decided to begin working w/ Digication & had never even looked at it before. 2.5 weeks of the SUMMER class spent figuring it out - us AND her. I withdrew to avoid a serious dent in my GPA. I wouldn't take another class with her.
Enrollment prereq.: pass all freshman English with C or better. (I say you shoulda passed with an A.) Inclusion of Yellowdig and Digication allow you to compare your work to other classmates--and you should. Read. Write. Cite. Repeat. Note: The work of historians is based on clear writing. That is this instructor's standard.
You will write. A lot. If you don't like to write, take a different course. Weekly discussion boards required 400 word minimum per week. Weekly assignments were between 1500 to 2500 per week. All citations were in Chicago-Notes/Bibliography style. Citations required for all content. Likes pictures. Write for a research paper and you'll do well.
I took her class online and it was probably one of the worst courses I have taken so far. Every week was a paper that she graded harshly and even if you do what she asks you get a "C"on the assignment. Expect to read a lot and do a lot of research essays. No quizzes but the writing makes you want tests instead.
I am currently taking her HST328 class online and I will not take anymore of her courses. She requests to be referred to as "Doctor" and she comes across as extremely arrogant. Her lectures are boring and mediocre at best. Her grading is extremely harsh and she ignores emails.
Tough grader and doesn't provide feedback. Uses a percentage grading system, and grading criteria is extremely vague. If you do not like to write, or don't have time to consult a writing tutor, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! Required to read four different books, write a paper every week, and participate in discussions online. Doesn't care if you pass.
Dr. Enloe doesn't get enough credit. Took Women's History. Class was AMAZING. I learned so much, the books she assigned were great. Not too much reading but enough to keep you busy. And her course calendar was well organized. She uses yellow did. It was great. Slightly tough grader on mini-essays, but I agree with her feedback. Overall, great class
This is a session A course, yet the amount of work she assigned was beyond what I expected compared to my previous session A courses. Her instructions are never clear, yet she nitpicks your assignments and wanted students to be more explicit than specified. Plus, there's a group project for an online class--- I mean, come on.
There was 5 exams, weekly discussions on Yellowdig, and a group project. Make sure you read the week's content before the exam, you will not pass if you don't.
Very knowledgeable, but extremely inconsistent with directions. Will dock you points for items she didn't discuss in class. Does not give you feedback on your rough draft, so you're going in blind with final paper. If you take her class, see a tutor and use the writing center for support.
I was very hesitant to take this professor at first after reading the reviews. The professor doesn't have much communication with you, however, the work is pretty self explanatory. Just watch the videos, read the lectures, and make sure to review the chapter summaries. All the information is there. I enjoyed the Memo format for our papers.
While I was miserable taking her class, she helped me to improve my writing and pushed me beyond what any other teacher has done. Very difficult grader, and the group project was frustrating to say the least, yet am thankful I have taken her class.
Dr. Enloe is a good teacher, she cared about the subject of the class and presented it in a clear and understandable manner. However, when it came to writing the paper for the class, with only two check in points for a paper worth half the total points in the class there was not much in the way of guidance.
Don't expect to pass if you don't have the time to sit down, read the textbook thoroughly, and take notes. The exams aren't proctored and are lengthy, but not extremely difficult if you read the material. Enloe seems very engaged and happy to assist. Discussion posts are also easy points.
There is a lot of participation required, but I learned the hard way not to disagree with the mainstream opinion. If she asks your opinion on an assignment, I learned even constructive criticism is not well received. The drama of the class robbed me of enjoying the course content.
I was interested in taking a women's studies class, but I am not a reader! If you don't like exams and writing assignments, this isn't the class for you. If you don't feel like reading a lot, this isn't the class for you either. I'm lucky I passed with even a B-.
Is not very willing to work with students on assignments, and gives very vague feedback. The couple papers we had, we were graded by other students, which is pretty ridiculous and stressful... The TA's are a piece of work as well. It would make sense that a pretentious teacher wants to have pretentious TA's. I wish I didn't have to take this class.
This is the third class I've taken with Dr Enloe. She will make you work for the grade but as long as you put in a few hours every week you will be fine. Discussions and essays are really important and the textbooks are vital to succeeding in the class. Tests are usually straight from coursework but usually have an essay portion.
Lectures are short but have quizzes embedded. Easy points and you can retake it as many times as needed. She's big on participation and peer review, but uses a program that makes it really easy. You'll have to write a fair amount but its worth it. This class is essential for history students and she makes things interesting and engaging.
HST 495 Capstone History class (subject 1933 Chicago World's Fair). I love Dr. Enloe's classes. This is the third class I have taken with her. She's not an easy A but if you do the work she is a very fair grader. A 12 page research paper is required to be submitted by the end of the class. She is friendly and quick to respond when you need help.
HST 328 Women in US History. Dr. Enloe's classes are excellent and well planned out. This is my second class with her. She enjoys the subject matter and it shows in her lectures. The class is not an easy A but she is a fair grader and an A is very possible if you do the work. She is also accessible for help if you are having trouble.
Dr. Enloe is an excellent teacher and the course was of high quality. It is easy to follow because it is well organized. Her grading criteria is very clear as well and she responds quickly to questions. Not as easy A but she is a fair grader. If you pay attention to her lectures you will do well.
Karin Enloe is absolutely fabulous and really knows her stuff . By no means is this class an easy A, but it's also very doable if you're willing to put in the work. The readings are interesting and eye-opening, the tests aren't bad as long as you take good notes, and the Peerceptivs are a breeze as long as you make sure to meet all of the criteria.
Great course, structured well.
This class was pretty much a headache from beginning to end, but worth it. It was very involved and required a ton of reading. I also thought the material was boring. However, this is the class that really taught me how to college! I was thrilled by the end, partly because I passed, but mostly because I felt prepared. I appreciated the hard work!
The reason why I gave her such a good rating is because I fell in love with the books that she assigned. Keep in mind her courses are reading heavy so you need to prioritize your time well. But I enjoyed them and have actually been reading the rest of one of them in my free time since she didnt need to assign the whole book. An interesting class!
I learned a lot and enjoyed this class. I really liked how the lectures are graded and have questions sporadically. Helped me retain what I was hearing. Awesome class
A lot of reading to do, textbooks are mandatory but cheap. Horrible grader, doesn't give specifics on why you got the grade you did, all replies are "great job!" even if you didn't get 100%. As long as you read the books, put effort into the weekly essays, and do Yellowdig participation you'll do fine. Really enjoyed the readings though.
Mandatory textbooks but cheap, a lot of reading but very interesting! Enjoyed the class but it was time consuming with weekly essays and all the reading (100-150pg. a week). Homework and tests were easy if you did the work. Vague grader, had "great job!" but didn't specify why I got docked points, which was frustrating. DON'T PLAGIARIZE SHE'LL KNOW
Class structure really allows for in depth understanding of the nation. Tremendous.
I took this as a half semester class, which probably wasn't the best idea considering the work load. There are at least 7 different things due in one week. I love history, that's why I took the class, but this is hefty. The professor seems great but this was an online class so I can't say much about that. be prepared to be working on an essay daily
One thing, you should be aware of if youre planning to take this class as session A, is how much work you have to do. For instance, there was an essay due every week 3 pages double spaced about the topic and lecture quizzes due to, & 3 assessments. There were a ton of readings assigned & yellowdig participation posts. Just stay on top of the work.
Dr. Enloe is fantastic, she really loves what she teaches and it shows in her lectures, assignments and Yellowdig participation prompts. This class was by far my favorite History class that I've taken at ASU. Take her, you won't regret it!
First off, I do not know how these teachers stay in business of teaching!! Nothing seemed to satisfy her whenever I turned in a assignment she would always grade so low and would point out small flaws that were unnecessary. I lost all my money in this course because I had to drop it.
Overall a kind professor, devoted to the subject, and willing to help. Just a few things to watch out for: Use sources effectively when writing. Don't wait until the last minute to read. You won't have enough time and the sources are fascinating. If you don't understand something, write to Dr. Enloe it will help both you and other students.
Prof. Enloe assigns a ton of reading, which can be hard to keep up with in an accelerated online course, and you'll do a lot of writing assignments, but as long as you read the directions and follow the grading rubric you'll be fine. She's very quick to answer questions as well. Tests aren't difficult.
Do not take this class if you aren't willing to read tons of material each week. The material is interesting though. Basically just read the chapters and answer questions citing the material really well. These are time consuming but it's our only assignment each week. There are a couple of quizzes but if you read you're fine. enjoyable
Be prepared to read for this class, I'm talking a whole book in less that a weeks time! This is a great class but the professor is an extremely nit-picky grader. Assignments are sometimes left with you to guess what she wants. Perfection is expected. An A in this class will cost blood, sweat, and tears.
She is so quirky and gives great lectures! I'm not really into history but she made this class really fun and I learnt a lot!
The pace of this class, not the work itself, is what makes this class difficult. For example, in one week you'll have to read an entire book, two chapters of another book, an article, and then complete a writing assignment and take a Quiz. Prof. Enloe is passionate on the topic but a tough grader. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not it.
Dr. Enloe is a passionate educator that relishes discussing the topics she instructs. Her grading is straightforward and concise. Her class is an easy pass but does require significant attention. She wants you to learn the material by immersion and discussion. The only issue is she does not filter or correct students on discussion boards.
She does not deserve a low rating. She is fun and is very clear in her grading/what shes looking for in assignments! By far the best history class I have ever taken! The best unique lectures! I loved she uses actual books instead of text books made it much more interesting. I learned a lot from this class. I would taken it again in a heartbeat!
Dr. Enloe is personable, involved, and accessible when needed. Yellowdig is a huge part of the grade but incredibly easy. My only complaint is having to read entire books in a week on top of classwork. The textbook doesnt read like a dry, boring typical textbook which is a plus. You can tell she is highly invested in her students and field.
I didnt have many issues with her grading or things like that. My biggest problem was the books/assignment set up. She CLEARLY didnt read the books before assigning them and making homework around them. Because the content she wanted wasnt in the books it made the homework difficult. For that reason I wouldnt take her again.
This class had a ridiculous amount of homework. I ended up lowering my hours at work to try to allow time for all of the readings and assignments for this class but it was still just too much. 150+ pages of reading a week along with 3-4 types of assignments every week.
This class had way too much homework.150+ pages of reading a week along with 3-4 assignments every week. She grades really tough as well. Where I usually get 100% on assignments she would give me 85-90%. She never seems happy with your work and doesn't give feedback so that you can improve.
THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS! I took it as a session B course with an assignment due every week, be it an essay or presentation. VERY heavy on reading, I suggest getting an audiobook version of her books. Despite the amount of reading, she's easy on grading. I wrote my essays last minute and got a decent grade.
My second class with Dr. Enloe and it did not disappoint. I know some think she is a tough grader, but if you follow the rubric it is an easy A. Make sure you cite your sources.
I really enjoyed Dr. Enloe's online Women in U.S. History course. While there was a good amount of reading, it's not bad if you have an interest in the topic. I did not think the class/assignments were difficult at all. Do your work/read & you'll likely do great. I'd recommend this course to others & would take it again!
The material in this class is easy but there is a lot of reading that goes to it. She is also a strict grader as well so be prepared for that and make sure you follow all the directions on her assignments. The material is interesting to read which is kind of nice. She comes off as a bit rude, but overall she's not too bad of a professor.
Don't take if you're looking for an easy A... there is a LOT of reading to do each week since it is session A, but I found most if not all the reading enjoyable and engaging. Yellowdig is a pain but easy. Make sure you thoroughly read the material and can think critically about them and you should be fine. Time management is key!!!!!
I really enjoyed this class, there was a ton of reading but the material was overall enjoyable. The assignments weren't very hard and weren't graded tough either.
Honestly one of the best organized and most engaged professors i've had. The materials all applied to learning, case load and grading was fair. I am almost upset i'm not a history major to take more of her classes!
This class initially terrified me because of the 12 page final paper, but we sort of did it in increments so it wasn't that bad. Weekly yellow dig discussions alongside other assignments gave you a bunch of points outside of the final, too. This was a Session A course so quite fast paced. I would take it online again rather than in-person.
This class was overall fine. If you do the work, you should do very well in the class. My only complaint was she didn't really provide feedback on assignments you were marked down. Also, there was a LOT of reading, and a timed 30-minute full essay at the end of the semester which was a bit rough. Overall though, it was a standard college class.
There was quite a bit of reading required for this course, but the main text and the assigned supplemental readings were very interesting and engaging. The course grade was based on timed quizzes, assignments, discussion board, and a timed final essay. Dr. Enloe was very quick to respond to any communications and was very professional.
Prepare to read extensively for this class. Professor Enloe is a tough grader, but engaging and passionate. Utilize resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook to manage the workload and earn that A.
Responds to emails, has good input when asking for help, and is a tough grader. WARNING! If you struggle with your draft, presentation, then your final better be good. I started with an A and ended with a C. I got a D on my presentation because my video was long, but I almost got perfect scores on the material, so I thought that was infuriating.
I thought Dr. Enloe was a great professor, one of my favorites at ASU. Her class was very insightful, and she was personable, and knowledgeable. I would absolutely take her class again.
This professor is thorough, but she is very particular. You must do your assignments exactly the way she wants.
Dr. Enloe was a fantastic professor and made the class a lot more fun.
I absolutely loathed this semester. I would never take a course by this professor again. Skip this professor if you can. Honestly, the class was way too much about her and her grading is off the charts. Dont wreck your GPA taking this class. Find a different professor and I swear you will be happier.
tough grader, unclear instructions, and not helpful whatsoever
- Tests ask only rudimentary questions that don't matter, "what" instead of "why" questions (disappointing) or even at times not even about the topic - Awful grading, I've sent 3 arguing against grading thus far. Why? Claimed I didn't use required sources for paper (I did and they were cited) and my "wrong" answers directly conflict her material
