She is a pretty good teacher. Not the nicest teacher in the world. Quizes were easy.
SOOOOO EASY!!!!!!
grades very liberally, great for people like me who aren't good at math.
Very good at explaining. Would highly recommend her for 119.
yea she's not that nice, and there's an attendance requirement. she does grade tests pretty easy though so whatever.
She is very nice, and is willing to explain things. Homework everyday, very organized. Tests are a breeze as long as you kind of pay attention in class. If you just do the homework everything is all good. Easy class.
Her class was pretty easy...just make sure you stay on top of the online quizzes and homework, those points add up at the end more than you realize...the one thing I didn't like is that she feels as if she needs to use the entire class period. I spent so much wasted time in there just because it wasn't time for hte class to end yet...
the class was probably the easiest class i have taken in a long time. as long as you turn in the homework, do well on the quizzes and have somewhat of an idea on the tests, you should do fine. explains very thoroughly, and is very helpful, even though class drags on most of the time.
Very Enthusiastic. Easiest Math class around. If you just do your homework and do well on quizzes your tests will take care of themselves. EASY class
goes over almost everything..very detailed steps, homework is supplementary but not esseential
She is a good teacher and very nice. The class wasn't hard but I'm a math person. If you do the homework and practice you shouldn't have a problem at all. Also you have to have algebra background to do well in this class.
she goes over everything a lot. she'll tell you which hw problems she is taking up, so you only have to do those. none of it is hard, but you need to know what you're doing. i sat in the back and didn't always pay attention, but i'm making an A
Her class is alright and really pretty easy, but she is a terrible teacher. You have to teach yourself basically. It seems like she doesn't really know what she is talking about.
This lady is WEIRD!!! If you can get over her odd persona and general creepiness, she's a decent teacher. She isn't too harsh about attendance - I walked in late practically every class, with a Starbucks in my hand. Make sure you do the online quizzes - they can make or break you. Most of the test material is straight from the notes.
excellent teacher and the 123 material is a joke. attendance is not taken but i recommend going. homework is posted on blackboard and you can turn it in anytime before 5 on the day it is due. tests are never too bad, lots of people get A's on each test. she's soo nice and helpful
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. If you listen, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A.
So easy. I aced all her tests, literally. Homework consists of 2 or 3 problems from the days notes. She isn't the best lecturer but if you can teacher yourself well, take her!
She makes this class very easy. We've done many things with scissors, glue, and colored pencils. Very little homework to do, only about 3-4 easy problems a night. Tests are closely related to the notes and homework... not hard at all as long as you show up for class and do your work.
Mrs. Pringle is very enthusiastic about her subject and will talk very fast and move very quickly. However, the classwork gets you very prepared for how her quizzes and tests will be. Superb use of homework (usually 3 to 4 problems) to get you acquainted with material.
First, she's a good teacher...she explains things well. Second, she doesn't let you make up quizzes and thats 0/10 pts everytime you miss one. Thats the only bad part. Except she's kind of an awkward person...but that's not always bad i guess
You can't miss this class but it's just because she teaches a whole lot. She explains things well but she loves the sound of her own voice and gives you a made up story for every word problem. Few turn in homeworks and the tests aren't bad just go to this class and take the notes, there are the tests right there. She's a little different.
She is not a very good teacher. She is not helpful when you go to her for clarification and does not explain things well in class. I would recommend taking someone else. The only good thing about this class is that your lowest 3 homework/quiz grades are dropped.
Not a hard class if you go to class. Homework can be hard, but she puts really easy questions on the test. If you've been going to class you'll be fine. She's not too helpful though outside of class - and isn't very personable. And she always takes the whole class period, which can get annoying.
Alot of quizs and homework but she tells you about them
Homework or quiz every single class. Tests are very hard. Doesn't care if you know what your doing
A first class *****. She is rude, sneaky, and could care less about you. We had HW and Quizzes daily along with a couple of tests. I took her for mini term, and for those of us who came every day for 3 hours in the summer she wouldnt give "any" slack. He office hours were beyond useless. She looks like the guy from tales of the crypt.
Class seemed easy at first then completely changed.. grades very hard! Tests are pretty hard too. Always homework and quizs.. which once again or graded very unfair.
If you can take another teacher for math 123 or 125 do so. This lady is weird and does not care one bit about her students. Sometimes she will be down right rude for no reason. Test are generally hard but all the work can be done if you attend class regularly and do the homework.
She only likes a few people in every class. Made me feel like a dumb ass every time I asked a question. Not helpful during office hours. Acts like she doesn't like for you to do well. Hard class...just don't get her.
She's not hard if you go to class. She grades homework - which is a little ridiculous. She's not very helpful in office hours either. If you learn quickly it shouldn't be much of a problem. But if you struggle with math, you may want to pick a different teacher. Very fast paced class.
She is a GREAT teacher! Her quizzes are super easy, and so are her tests. The homework problems can get a little tricky, but she'll go over them in class if you ask her too. TAKE HER FOR MATH 123!
This teacher is horrible! I am currently in her class and she goes way to fast and expects you to understand it the first time. Lets put it this way, I have a math tutor and I'm still looking at getting a D! If your really smart you can probably do good in this class if not...find another teacher!!
I took her for both 123 and 125 because I loved her so much. She is great at explaining things and gives several examples-you just have to pay attention. Her homework is sometimes lengthy but she only checks a few problems for grades and tells you in advance which ones. I got an A both times. She's really nice and an excellent math teacher! Take he
Anyone considering taking Math 125 should really take Mrs. Pringle's class. The class is not difficult, you just need to come to class and do all the homework. Her office hours are very helpful, and I am very glad I was lucky enough to take her class. Homework is mostly done online, quizzes are short, and exams can be challenging, but just study.
In class, Ms. Pringle is a generally good teacher. She explains things well and tends to do enough examples. However, she is in her own world. She is scarily enthusiastic about what she teaches, but she chooses favorites and acts annoyed when you ask questions. It is impossible to reach her by email and she is not helpful in office hours.
Class was relatively easy. You have to go to class otherwise you will be lost. Quizzes are easy and she gives a lot of little tests instead of a couple really big tests. She is very helpful and explains things very well.
Great lecturer. If you attend class everyday you will do fine. Works hand in hand with the text book. Quizzes are easy, but you must study a decent amount to be successful on the tests. She is very understanding and helpful. She WANTS her students to do well. Definately take her if you can!
She was a great teacher! You have a lot of quizzes, but they're very very short (one or two questions), and the quizzes are over material that was covered in the previous class. She drops two quizzes. There are only five tests, and she drops the lowest test. Then there's a cumulative final. EASY AND A GREAT TEACHER!
Overall she was a pretty good teacher. Her tests are fairly difficult, but if you study, you should do fine.
She's a lousy teacher. I took 141 before 125, and she made the material I already knew seem confusing.
I thought she was a great teacher. She is very nice and explains her lessons quite thoroughly. I would definitely recommend her for Math 125.
she came to class more than 30min late. and i left before then. she ended up giving the people who stayed extra credit and expected the rest to do the homework assigned during fall break. it is unacceptable for a teacher to arrive late to class. and a school policy states that you are allowed to leave if a teacher is 15 min late
Dr. Pringle is a great teacher. Though I have had prior calculus classes, we have learned other proofs not taught in high school AP Calculus. The lectures are clear and the tests are really easy. The person below me is just pissy because he didn't get 5 extra points... the weather was awful that day, so get over it.
Tough. Better have friends who are good at calc and in her class if you want a good grade. The class notes are only slightly more useful than the book notes
About what you want out of a math teacher, everything was laid out and planned, so no pop quizzes or surprise grades. She really kept up on blackboard, posting everything. As far as class goes, very important to pay attention. Many people don't like her because she goes through material fairly quick. I got a 98% in the class, no problem very doable
I enjoyed Dr. Pringle's class. Just do the homework and come to class and you'll be fine. She explains things clearly and is understanding as long as you try hard. And a previous commenter talked about how late she was once. That's because one day a week we had Calculus in an entirely different building, and she got them confused. No big deal.
Very boring. She is so excited about math it makes me sick. Class is not to hard if you go and pay attention. Of course like always WEBASSIGN homework is hard but if you do it it will help you for the exam. If you plan on going to class and are half way decent at math dont waste your time buying the book.
i was disappointed in this class. i felt that while she knew what she was doing, her explanations of concepts were unclear for everything we covered. i have never failed a class before and now i anticipate it because of her inability to explain any of the concepts covered. if you value your grades, dont take her class.
I got on here and read pretty decent reviews for the class; however, I was fooled. If you don't catch on quickly, then you will get lost..fast. She knows what she's talking about, hence how she finds problems "fun," but she goes quickly and doesn't thoroughly explain how to solve problems. If you're good at teaching yourself, you'll be fine.
She knows her stuff but moves very, very quickly. If you get behind, get help quick because you will never catch-up. But overall, she is a very good professor.
I was usually distracted by the ugliness of her shoes. She's quite bitter and responds rudely to most questions, but she knows what she's doing. I found her explanations to be difficult to understand. I'd recommend a different teacher unless you're really good at math. This was my lowest ever math grade.
She's very sweet, and if you go to her office hours she's VERY helpful!! Do your webassign early because she lets you ask questions in class. I'm not very good at math so I used the textbook frequently to look at examples. Go to class because you have in class quizzes. She drops the three lowest quiz grades. I would take her again.
Worst math teacher I have ever had. Will ridicule if you ask a question. Explains calc verbally and flies through steps without writing anything on the board. Looks down on everyone because she knows more math then we do. I would drop out of school before I took her again. web assign has problems not learned in class.Learned more from book then her
Not very helpful. Teaches like you know as much as she does about the subject and assumes she can skip steps. If you're not a math expert DO NOT take her class.
If you go to class, pay attention, and ask questions, you will have an easy A. Quizzes and tests are not hard. If you don't understand something, it's important to get help right away because she will move forward if you don't. Dr. Pringle is very enthusiastic and does a great job relaying the importance of finances in daily life. Take this class!
The tests are just like the quizzes. Unless you struggle alot with math I wouldn't buy the book. The problems in class alot like the webassign. If you fall behind get help. She lets you ask questions in class about webassign.
She knows what she is doing, and covers the material well. Her quizzes arent bad at all, but I rarely had enough time to finish one of her test.
karin pringle is the worst math teacher, probably ever. she treats you like garbage if you ask questions, and assumes you speak math as fluently as she does. she's enthusiastic, and it's almost like doing problems in class is just practice for her, so she just moves on like everyone was supposed to understand. i would RUN from taking her.
Teaches extremely fast and skips steps assuming you know what she did, and if you ask her to go back, she will ignore you half the time. She also assumes that you understand everything she's saying, even though you'd need a PHD in mathematics to keep up with her. Do no take this class unless you just like getting bad grades.
Great teacher. She is extremely willing to work with you and gives in-depth notes. She gives a lot of quizzes and homework, but it is all constructive. Taking her was a great idea.
Easy class, good teacher. This lady is seriously smart. She goes quickly, but if you know anything about math at all, you won't have a problem. Never used the book, but you have to buy a WebAssign code cause there are lots of assignments on there. 4 exams and a final.
I took her for 123 and 125. She does go fast, but her office hours are very helpful. She really does want you to do well and is enthusiastic about math. The tests are longer versions of the quizzes which are very frequent. There are 4 tests- 15% of grade each, final 20%, Quizzes and WebAssign are each 10%. Maybe not the best, but def. not the worst
Not the best math teacher. She goes extremely fast, and is very condescending to people that ask questions in class. There is a lot of homework assigned, and a lot of in class quizzes, so try not to miss a lot. The tests are not unreasonable, but don't expect to do well unless you know the material.
Terrible teacher. The course itself wasn't very hard, but she made it hard by only teaching theory and proofs instead of simply showing you how to do the work, which made lecture pointless. Homework is graded unfairly and is assigned frequently and the content of the homework is nothing like what you're tested on. She's also just not very nice.
She was a very good teacher! She taught well and clearly. She moves fast, but always stays on schedule. Her frequent quizzes are awesome for raising grades. Her tests are 100% reasonable. They never have the hardest problems and she understands the time constraint. Take her, you won't regret it!
although she does move fast she can help you in office hours...the book doesnt give many examples and is not good help so you must go to class...she grades fairly generous and rarely gives you zero on a problem...you have maybe twenty problems of hw a a week which is simple...only negative is no extra credit
Good grief. Dr. Pringle is smart as a whip but she expects you to be a math savant if you take her Matrix class. I don't think it was the material because other students in the same course with other instructors didn't seem to have much trouble at all. Everyone had problems with the rapid pace of our class.
She's a nice lady who likes people to learn about the stuff she teaches. She can be a bit unclear sometimes and she's very strict with attendance. Not a hard class though.
People don't give Dr. Pringle enough credit. Her class isn't that difficult and she's always willing to help during office hours and class. Yes, some of her projects are ridiculous, but really aren't that bad. Homework isn't due until 5 the day it's due. I definitely recommend taking her class, especially if it's required for your major.
Ms. Pringle teaches extremely fast and gives a large amount of homework and quizzes. She does a poor job of explaining things. Sometimes she is wrong, so you have to follow up with her teachings. I do not recommend her for people that are trying to take precalculus for the first time.
I had a lot of trouble in this class. Dr. Pringle moves extremely fast and gives large amounts of work. She grades homeworks, quizzes, and exams very strictly. I did not enjoy this class and there was not much help from the book. She would often do examples I understood in class then the homework would be nothing like that days' work.
My only complaint with Dr. Pringle is that she doesn't seem to understand that not everybody "speaks math" as fluently as she does. Otherwise, great teacher. Very helpful, very engaging.
Doesn't seem to understand that the entire class doesn't have a P.H.D in Mathematics. Makes students feel stupid if they ask a question. By far the worst professor you could ever have. RUN.
Great teacher overall.... expects you to understand math more than someone taking 113 would usually know though. CLASS ATTENDANCE! Don't skip. She is always there to answer questions in class or in her office. Don't take offense by her personality, she seems cruel at first but she is really sweet when you get to know her. FUN class! Play-dough!
Dr. Pringle was a really great professor. Her lectures take up the entire class period but she is really engaging and she wants the students to do well. Expect 23 problem quizzes almost every day, but if you do that section's homework, they are an easy 10 points. Tests are basically like the quizzes, so if you do well on those, expect an easy a.
Dr. Pringle was a great teacher overall. She expects for students to do well because she teaches everyday. She has easy homework assignments and easy quizzes, but they are frequent. I recommend that you take this professor.
She's a wonderful lady and a great professor.
Does not clearly explain concepts. Moves very quickly and doesn't give you a chance to catch up if you ever fall behind.
Math 130- class, excluding test days. She presents several opportunities to get the help you need, just not during class, because she moves through material quickly and doesn't stop for many questions. However, if you legitimately study, there's no reason you won't pass.
She was an excellent teacher because I learned a lot from her. However, she did go through the material fast, but that is due to the pace of the class.
Really nice lady!! If you want to study, take her, there is no reason you won't pass. Extra points for homework and quizzes, there are frequent easy quizzes... Would take her classes again in the future
I took her for Math 130 and Math 141. Needless to say, I liked her teaching style and grading style. She has a lot of quizzes, but she usually goes over the material before the quizzes. Before each test, she gives you a study guide with possible items on the test and she works the study guide out. She gives you an incentive to complete homework ear
definitely one of the best teachers I have had at UT. She helped me out SO much through the semester. She is honestly so kind and if you let her know that you are having a problem, she is more than willing to help you out---you just have to let her know that you're having problems.
Dr. Pringle is so passionate about what she does and definitely inspired me to succeed in math. GREAT teacher!! I definitely encourage you to take this class! There is a lot of homework, but it isn't too overwhelming. She is determined to help students if they also put in effort.
Alright teacher, not very clear and way too fast
Great teacher! She lays out everything you need to know for the homework in class with useful examples. Gives review sheets for tests. Accessible for help. Fair grader.
Makes you work for it is an understatement. This class is doable, but definitely time consuming. We had multiple homework assignments a week, frequent quizzes, and mandatory graded clicker quizzes every class. She's a very smart lady and I would suggest going to office hours for help!
Moves way too fast. If you fall behind, then it will be difficult to get caught up. Fair grader. Expect WebAssign (on-line) homework basically every night. DID NOT use calculators.
Dr. Pringle is a pretty good teacher. Her tests are so so and she gives quizzes that are pretty straight forward. She will randomly have clicker quizzes that are surprisingly a pretty good chunk of the grade. She gives lots of homework both written and through webassign.
Wonderful professor, wants you to succeed and gives you every opportunity. She is very easy to understand and gives great notes. Lots of quizzes but they're usually really easy and if you pay attention do the homework you should be fine.
She moved very fast in the class and did not take much time to explain concepts. If I had not taken precalc the year before I would have failed this class. There is also as with every math class lots and lots of homework.
Dosen't like to explain completely
The matrix course was only a half-semester course, so she assigned lots of homework and we had quizzes about 2x per week. She is a fast talker & writer which made it hard to follow sometimes but overall I think she taught the material well and set up her lectures well. The exams are worth a lot of your grade and there are only 2, so study hard.
She's a really sweet lady that cares about her students and tries to help you understand the material. She's a little quirky but it makes the class fun.
She was awesome! Matrix is only half a semester, so lectures move fast, but she gives you plenty of room to ask questions and clarify. Lectures are pretty important, as we often had quizzes (1-2 times a week), but she gives you everything you need to know in class. I only had to use the book a few times for clarification and practice problems.
Mrs. Pringle is a very caring professor who really cares how her students are doing and can relate information well. Some advice would be to read chapters before lectures so that you have an undestanding of material because she does move quite fast
I love Dr. Pringle! She cares about her students and makes sure to learn the names of the students in her class. She gives homework every class lecture but it is usually short and quick if you pay attention in class. We have quizzes every week but they are fairly simple if you take notes in class and do the homework.
Professor Pringle is amazing, if you have a decent pre-calc background, you'll do great! Material is significantly easier in the beginning of the course, but gets harder. LOTS of quizzes (usually easy), usually v clear & concise, reminds me of a stern yet very caring grandmother, she truly cares about her classes a lot, and I'll miss her! <3
She is a very sweet lady but I think the kids in my class who had never seen trig struggled.
She is a nice lady and really knows what she is talking about. But she goes very fast and writes fast. It is hard to keep up and she tends not to explain things very well. If you're not good at math or cannot keep up with fast talkers and fast writers, don't take her class. She has office hours and if you're struggling, go to them!
Dr. Pringle is clearly very good at math, but she is not good at lecturing. She would move very quickly through explanations and instead do a lot of examples in class. There is a lot of WebAssign homework, which is sometimes unreasonably difficult, but the tests are relatively easy. It will require work on your own to understand the topics.
Terrible lecturer. She is so hard to understand and assumes you know exactly what shes talking about all the time. Tests and quizzes arent awful.
I took her for Math 142. She goes too fast in lectures and doesn't write anything down that is important. Homework heavy. She goes over too much material for each test which makes it hard to remember everything to study. Beware
Karin is very good at math, but unfortunately assumes that her students think at the same speed as her. She flies through material in lecture and her handwriting is sometimes messy and unintelligible. She provides lots of examples of problems which is good, but sacrifices thoroughly explaining the topic to fit them all in. Tests are fair though
Moves really fast through lectures, and complicates methods that are straightforward. Yes, calc 2 is a difficult subject, but her style of teaching definitely made it more so.
She's extremely intelligent, but assumes that students can instantly interpret what she says and moves on to the next topic in the lecture, which is a problem because she talks faster than any human being I've ever heard. Very nice lady and very enthusiastic about teaching, but just goes through the material extremely fast.
She talks sooooooo fast!! And if you do the homework you will learn everything you need to.
Dr. Pringle is not who you want as a professor if you can avoid it. If you must take her just know that she talks extremely fast, flies through notes in class, and doesn't teach concepts very well. Her way of teaching is for you to work out examples yourself and teach yourself through homework, or at least that's what I did.
Literally run like the wind in the other direction if you have her for Math 142. Very nice lady and she knows her stuff, but assumes students know more than they do. Quizzes and clicker grades killed my grade. Take the quizzes seriously and study notation; she tells the TAs to be tough on that.
Pringle isn't a great lecturer and can sometimes be condescending, but she's much better in office hours and can explain things more clearly there. If you have another option I'd recommend you take it, but getting Pringle won't be the end of the world. A ton of work though, make sure you keep up or you'll get lost fast.
Pringle is the worst lecturer I have had as a college student. She goes way too fast and notes dont make sense after she goes through them. I put more focus on getting notes down than paying attention to what the notes were. Quizzes and clickers seem small, but can bring your grade down. Tests are graded very tough.
400 person 8 AM class. Just reread notes for lecture. You can get all the answers right on a test, but still get a 70 for missing work. I got a 30 on a quiz for getting the right answer, but used a different more logical method. Clickers are an everything thing.
She isn't the greatest and there are definitely better lecturers... but the material really isn't too bad. If you did ok in Calc1 you'll be fine with some Khan academy and some good luck. I think Pringle gets an unfairly bad reputation just because of people who never went to class and never studied and then got salty about failing it.
Calc 2 for Engineers is the worst math class yet! Dr. Pringle goes way too fast during lecture, but notes are posted. Very hard material and fast pace so expect to study, do homework, and get help! Quizzes are over most recent material, 3 question, and will kill your grade if you are not prepared! Tough grading on tests and memorization necessary.
Doesn't know how to teach concepts.
This class is comes with a lot of work. Be ready to have homework due almost every class. There are plenty of quizzes, but it helps take off some of the weight of exams. She definitely wants you to succeed and is open to students during office hours or with an appointment. She is also very positive and caring. Be ready to come to class each day!
You definitely have to work hard in order to get a good grade. She gives a lot of quizzes almost weekly. Personally it wasn't very easy to ask her questions because she always made me feel dumb so I would find other people for help. The day to day lecture was pretty boring and hard to focus but if you skip you'll have to self teach the whole course
She was a very nice person, and her tests and quizzes were difficult. She is very accessible for her office hours. Study and practice and you will be fine!
50% Activities, 10% each exam (unproctored), 10% clickers, 20% HW. Getting a good grade isn't hard but she can be unnecessarily harsh in grading. She can also be very rude.
She is very verbally aggressive, and technologically challenged. She assigns a google classroom assignment(worksheet) after every lecture, and when she grades them she has no clear rubric, instead she looks for every possible thing she can take off for. She is inconsiderate, and lacks compassion. She teaches us like we are children and its gross
Karin was overall a good professor, though a bit disorganized at times (keep in mind that I took this class in an online only format over zoom). She likes to put you in groups to work on activities but there is no graded group work. I would take another class with her if this was not the highest level course she teaches.
I took this class all online over zoom which made it tougher. She gives you modules to do 3 times a week with a zoom meeting on Tuesday or once a week and you will have a quiz after. She posts lecture videos 3 times a week as well, but goes so fast in the lecture and skips steps that you cant understand what shes doing. Good luck!
I had her for online Precal. The way its structured: she gives pre-recorded lectures, and makes the quizzes. She has another Professor oversee the weekly meetings. There is no comm. between the two professors, causing confusion. She basically assumes you already know the material, goes fast, and puts concepts on the homework that werent taught.
Oh my god. Do NOT take this class if its online. Lectures were terrible because she would constantly skip steps. Most of my learning was done in the homework, not from her lectures. Recitation meetings were helpful, but not because of Ms. Pringle. Find another professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. The lecture videos are a mess. The recitation classes dont align with the homework assignments. Its very over complicated
I took this pre calc class with some knowledge from high school. The way she teaches is horrific and if you get her as a teacher and have never had any sort of pre calc information DROP HER!!!! She is one of the worst professors ive ever had.
The format of the class is asynchronous meaning there are no face to face lectures. Be prepared to teach yourself as she posts about 15 minutes worth of a recorded video that goes extremely fast through a couple of example problems but skips many steps leaving you confused. I learned more from the Organic Chemistry Tutor on Youtube.
Worst professor I have ever had. She clearly knows her stuff, but she always assumes you know more than you do, leading to horrible recorded lectures where she constantly skips steps when working out examples and puts concepts on homework and tests that weren't taught. Do NOT take her if there are other options.
Lackluster explanations despite difficult tests.
Watch her lectures. DO homework the day assigned because you can make 110% on it, and it is worth more than anything else. You have a quiz every class, but they are easy. The tests are easy, just do the optional worksheets. The quizzes and tests are very few questions, so SHOW AND CHECK your work. If you miss class, you just retake another day.
I had her the first time she had a large lecture, so there was definitely an adjustment period. However, even with a large lecture she made an effort to get to know students. When she knew you there was a chance you'd be called out to answer things in class though. Do the work and it shouldn't be difficult. Very accessible if struggling.
DO NOT take Pringle online!! On the note videos, she didn't explain much and they just weren't helpful. I think she would be a better in person professor.
Tbh this class wasn't too bad. You have homework almost every night and a quiz every time there is synchronous class. The lecture videos help a bit but you will need to do tons of research on your own to do well on the tests and quizzes. This class should be an easy A if you do work. However, I will say that Dr. Pringle is not a very nice person...
Ms. Pringle's lecture videos online are not explained well, I had to have my notes mailed from high school to campus, just so I could teach myself. Not to mention, this class doesn't even count for a math credit at UTK, and the course does not even prepare me for calculus at UTK. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
I thought she was a really good professor! If I was better at math and put the work in, I could have succeeded. The material is just really difficult and requires memorization.
Get prepared for quizzes almost every class. Also she doesn't teach much and expects you to understand everything so its a lot of self learning. I depended on my high school notes from the same class to get my grade good enough.
Professor Pringle goes way too fast on her lectures. If you ask her a question or unsure about an answer, be prepared to feel unimportant or silly. She is not very good at explaining things and gives LOTS of quizzes. Online proctored with lockdown browser for tests and quizzes.
Professor Pringle is a very kind lady when you get to know her better. As a math professor though, I do not recommend not taking her class. I took this class in high school before I took her class and I still struggled. She is not an easy professor.
Worst class I've had so far. Never thought I would have so many mental breakdowns over a math class. She's a very nice person but not very helpful as a professor. If you don't have to take this class then do not!
A good teacher, but she lacks social awareness. Speaks to her students like they're stupid. Makes arrogant comments and is not friendly when speaking 1-on-1. Also, I factored a cubic on a quiz. She took points off so I had to literally teach her how to factor cubics by hand. She then only gave me 1 point back (she does not like being wrong).
This class is not hard but Dr. Pringle moves extremely fast and is not very helpful in explaining. The homework she assigns is also extremely time consuming.
In Math 130 you will get assigned a good deal of homework. Also, for tests, she often selects the simplest versions of problems. You will also get many 2 question quizzes throughout the semester. I found the class to be rather easy with effort, but her responses to questions in class were seemingly condescending which I found to be disappointing.
While I understand that this may not be everyone's experience, Professor Pringle's class was, for the first time in my life, a math course in which I learned something. Her lectures seem quick if you come unprepared but are very helpful when you do. Also, her tests are pretty easy with a minor amount of review and the homework takes forever.
Dr. Pringle is a very nice professor!! Math 130 is not a very difficult class but it does move fast. This is outlined in the syllabus provided and she will state that the class moves very fast. The homework can be difficult, but if you can pass the homework then the tests will be no problem! The questions are not as difficult!!
She is very great at explaining the logic behind the concepts which leads to a more functional understanding of concepts. One criticism is that she talks fast, so if you miss one thing, you can quickly get left behind. It is overall a great class and she's a good instructor.
She talks very fast, so when you look down at your paper to do a problem and look back up she's a problem ahead of you already. I would suggest using the online lecture videos to get a better understanding of the content.
One of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. Everything was explained in the most difficult way possible. Do not ask questions during lecture. Majority of other students in the room agree that YouTube and the Math center was the only reason they received an A or B. There are at least two quizzes a week that are graded extremely hard
If you're willing to learn, you won't have any trouble in this class. Do not get on your phone in this class, she will get upset.
Karin is disrespectful, when you ask a question in class she will make you feel stupid. There is an INSANE amount of homework every night and multiple quizzes a week. Karin assumes you know everything and skips over teaching many things. Avoid this professor. If you are stuck with her, have fun teaching yourself math and slaving over homework.
Dr. Pringle makes you feel stupid for asking questions in class. She does more showing that she knows how to do the material rather than teaching the material. You will have homework every night and a quiz basically every day.
Pre-cal is one of the more difficult math classes because there are so many rules about factoring, logarithms, exponential equations, etc. She does an excellent job of conveying every necessary rule while showing step by step examples from beginning to end, including in what format they want to see on the exam. Read and practice on your own time.
Horrible at teaching and expects you to know everything when not taught it.
Do not take. She interrupts her own thoughts and uses class to show off her capabilities rather than teach. Barely makes sense. Quiz every week and homework 2+ times a week.
Do not take this professor unless you already have knowledge of the material taught in the course. She assumed we already knew everything and didn't explain it well. When asked a question, she tends to answer in a condescending tone. Honestly very disrespectful and wouldn't recommend taking her class. The only pros were the quizzes and review days.
Just OK. decent amount of homework and a quiz every week. she goes over her lectures quickly and her hand writing is horrible so half the time I didnt know what was going on. the tests were pretty easy. Overall the class is easy, matrices is just an annoying subject. I put very minimal effort into the class and ended up with a B
Very difficult to grasp. She tends to forget not everyone has the knowledge necessary to keep up with her and when you ask questions her response feels belittling.
she was really nice to me
Dr. Pringle tends to go very fast in lectures and gives a lot of clicker questions during class. I found that I liked her a lot more when I attended her office hours. If you visit her, she does her best to help you, and she usually will let you have a paper to leave with of problems she works out with you.
The most difficult part of her class was the fact that her class time was spent proving formulas and rules existed rather than how to use them, though her homework assignments were all applications. She wasn't the nicest teacher either, and made you feel bad about asking questions.
I was warned about this class when people told me that she goes very quickly through content, and they were right. She just expects you to pick things up immediately which is annoying because I had to go back and teach myself the majority of this course. Also she gives an insane amount of quizzes and surprise clicker questions.
This class is very fast paced so the large amount of homework is understandable, if not necessary. Dr. Pringle is very understanding when it comes to grading, and she does a great job teaching the class.
There's maybe 3 hw assignments to do each week, along with two quizzes a week (this is a tues-thurs course) and she breezes through concepts because there are only 18 classes. Going to office hours will save you because unfortunately the concepts are too hard to master alone. This class actually took up the most time for me and thank god its over..
She goes very quick in class but her review guides and worksheets help if you get stuck - a lot of times she will post guiding videos for those worksheets, and she will be willing to help at office hours. She isn't super tough when it comes to grading exams either. MATH251 is a tough course, but if you put in the work you can get a good grade.
Professor Pringle is very passionate about math. If you don't get it the first time around she can make you feel bad about not understanding but will still help you. Quiz/Exams are not too hard but sometimes you can lose points even for very small mistakes. If you are a math major and want intro to proofs/really understand the material take her.
She's alright- very passionate about what she teaches which helps make the class better. However, I personally feel like a switch was flipped after the midterm. Everything was more confusing, and when I went to her office hours for help it left me with the same confusion I started with. So she's good but try not to fall behind- its hard to recover
Dr Pringle has very good knowledge of Calculus, but she speaks at an extreamly fast rate and it's difficult to keep up with what she was saying. When asking questions, she can be very condenscending and makes you feel like you don't belong in the class, she's very harsh with partial credit as she doesn't give an effort to understand the work.
The professor assumes a lot of prior knowledge and doesn't explain things well. Expect a tough class with quizzes and homework frequently. unstuckstudy, ChatGPT, and other study tools may help, but overall wouldn't recommend taking this course.
The class overall is very fast paced and requires a lot of homework and quizzes because of it being only half a semester. The homework and content isn't too incredibly hard but she is awful at explaining and understanding any gaps in understanding. She definitely cares about the class and students but goes very fast and expects immediate results.
Since this class is a half of a semester it moves very fast. Some topics did not get talked about as well because we only had one day to talk about them. The first unit is dramatically easier than the second one. She is very nice and cares about students understanding what they learn. She is very approachable for asking questions.
Great professor, made matrix bearable
Great lectures. Cares a lot about the content and provides external resources to learn this content. She is a great teacher and deserves more praise than she gets.
attendance is mandatory in that she has a lot of quizzes in class, sometimes twice a week. very easy quizzes, but still a portion of your grade you cant afford to miss, however they are generally announced before or scheduled (iirc it was Tuesday for our class)
I had Pringle, Kazanova, and Thistlethwaite together. This class was awful. I already had a year of calculus before and I STILL failed this class. The information is all on you to learn and the professors are belittling and not helpful in the slightest. Grade is from weekly quizzes and exams that are impossible to finish in the given time.
They expect you to have a PhD in Calculus before you come into this class. There were quizzes every week in class. If this is your first time taking calculus do not take Pringle, Kasanova, or Thistlewaite.
Gives in class assignments as attendence and grades them based on accuracy. Quiz everyweek. quizes are only 3 questions. She doesnt teach in class. She posts long confusing videos to watch before class. When you ask a question she makes you feel dumb and then doesn't answer the question. She told me to give up on myself towards the end of the class
Prof Pringle is great. She is very informative and made this class enjoyable. This is compressed and ends mid march. Two tests worth 30% each, about 10 quizzes worth 20%, homework on every section worth 15% and 5% for participation. Just do the homework and her test study guides and you will pass or better!
Pringle is not a good teacher, and neither were the other professors who also taught my class. She will make you feel stupid for asking questions and is not reachable at all. She was also late to class sometimes. Most of your grade is dependent on the quizzes and exams, but there is a lot of homework. Try to take someone else if you have a choice.
I took her for Matrix Computations, and the class is extremely lecture heavy. The lectures were very boring which made it hard to pay attention, and the class is very heavy on quizzes. She seemed very sweet though and was not a bad professor if you could focus. I liked her, but would not take her again.
Goes VERY fast, half a semester course. 2 exams in total, first exam was a a breeze if you study at all, basic math of matrices, second half was very difficult topics and theorems, lots of "theoretical" math. Combine that with her lecture speed of 500 wpm (words per minute), it is hard to keep up. Would take a full semester version.
Ok professor but goes really fast. Super boring as well talking.
She truly knows calculus inside and out. But that doesn't mean that you will. She is very fast paced but did give us note packets to keep up with her lectures.
Very sweet lady. Class is half a semster, so a lot of informaton at once. She lectures really fast but post all the stuff before and after. She has tons of office hours too, and she drops your lowest quiz. It is very hard class and a lot of work, but its only for half a semster and shes trys her best to help.
