Lectures are confusing and unclear. The two essay tests are extremely tough and unfair but because you must pass this course the key is to totally understand and analyze the material given.
Dr. Chai is the single worst professor I have had at UCF. There are 2 regular exams and a final. The exam questions are unclear and unfair resulting in extremely low test averages. His lectures are unclear and a waste of time.
CAN NOT TEACH! if you want to understand what he's talkin about tape the lectures and go back...thats the only way....text is not gonna help u pass the class you need to fully understand what he's talking about and trying to explain which is hard!
confusing, hard to understand....I believe I know less on this subject for having taken his class.
This man is crazy. When I took him tests consists of only 5 questions all essay...and may I remind you, it's SCIENCE. NOT FREAKING COMPOSITON CLASS.
The WORST professor I have EVER taken- hands down. This man has little rhyme or reason to his daily lectures. he jumps around a lot, is VERY unorganized, and wastes time on the most mundane details. Chai is AWFUL, period.
Was honestly was of the best teachers i had while at undergrad at UCF. Many people dislike him b/c he does not test on rote memorization of facts rather he tests your ability to apply Information and this my friends really makes u learn!!!
Horrible at explaining material. Tests are do not match the level of the course.
I dont think he does anything to facilitate learing. I dont think he knows how to properly design test so that they accurately test your knowledge. I have been through enough to know when they do this...and this ain't it. He really shouldnt teach.
Well he may not test on rote memorization and true he may test on concepts......but then there is the fact that he doesnt teach concepts either! I think he should just hand out the tests in the first week and get it over with. It would be the same.
very difficult to understand his lectures, the text helps a little Going to his office and asking questions in person helps a lot (he is generally very freindly) his tests are not very good he seems to look only for certain "key words" Haven't le
I actually thought he taught well.It just took a little energy to see his piont.I admit that his tests were not prepared well in advance and he probably wrote them the night before not noticing the ambigous questions. Is your answer relevant to lecture?
he is helpful as an individual instructor. He needs to learn to focus on teaching the class, not on research. be prepared to do a lot of work on your own.
He is disorganized and downright incoherent. It wouldnt be so bad if he would go more from the book. I don't think his tests are relevant to anything mentioned in class.
Goes off for minutes at a time and forgets where he is. Used battleships to describe Genetic Linkage for 50 minutes, nobody got it and then got angry when people asked for clarification. Gets easier to understand, nice person
The material is interesting, but the teacher does not focuss or organize it. The test come from out of nowhere
lectures are so hard to follow, bring a recorder, seriously! talks fast...but makes his point...you just have to read between the lines. reading is very important...take quant bio before this class, or during, it will help! interesting material, insanely hard tests, time consuming essays!
Tests are 65% essay and are totally subjective. Make your points in the multiple choice then pray. Very hard to follow, is not at all concise and makes fun of races, presidents, and threatened to arrange a riot against a student that challenged him. Curved at end, but not worth it.
Worst teacher I ever had. I had him back in 1999 and I can't believe he is still teaching. I actually changed majors after his class from Molecular/Micro to Chemistry. If I had to do it all over again, I would not at all. He has cost me my chance into Medical School and hundreds of thousands $$
One of the reasons not to come to UCF. Quality and consistency vary wildy among the professors. He should not be allowed to teach.
He may not be that clear, but if you just listen to the take home message of his rambling you should do fine. He does not test on fine details, but more on concepts. He also has a group Q and A session during his office hours. The tests are hard, but if you can't do it then maybe its not for you.
I think he really wants the students to learn the material, but he is really hard to follow. GO TO OFFICE HOURS if you have the chance, and break out every good luck charm you have ever owned when taking his tests.... Not impossible, but you're going to have to work.
he really knows his stuff but you HAVE to go to office hours! He will spend as much time as he needs to make sure you understand the information. Not a class for anyone who isn't willing to put time and effort into their studies.
The worst professor I've ever had!!! No help at all, and we could barely understand him!
Dr. Chai is a great person, outside of his class, he is very helpful and sincere. During class, his english is not good but he knows his stuff. If there's any reasons why you don't understand, ask him during office hours. I can't stress enough how helpful office hrs are. Ask as many questions as you can.Its possible to jump from fail to B or A
If you can't survive Dr. Chai's class than you will not survive medical or pharmacy school. Forces you to articulate your knowledge of concepts on exams instead of regurgitating facts. Every multiple choice problem involves the thinking of an essay problem. His office hours are very helpful whenever you have a gap in your understanding.
Contrary to popular belief, Dr. Chai's office hours are NOT the key to succeeding in his class. The class is relatively simple...all you have to do is attend lectures and PAY ATTENTION to them. Group study/lecture participation are almost vital to doing well in this class. Overall, excellent instructor and fun, relaxed class.
Information content is awesome in this class! Only drawback is he has trouble communicating thoughts clearly or easily at times. I found it very helpful to record lectures, as many controversial answers to his test ?'s are based off of his thought processes.
Dr. Chai is extremely knowledgeable, and is helpful in office hours. Pay close attention in class, because it takes some time to understand the language of Molecular Biology from Chai or anyone. In the end, I realize that I learned a lot, and a new way of thinking. The best advice- stick it out, it will be worth it in the end. He does curve..a lot.
True, he does have a hard time communicating clearly, but if you talk to him personally, he clarifies the confusion. Do NOT focus on the book for exams, just the notes and the lectures. Also, if you happen to be asian, you got it made!

Lectures are inconsistent and often, not relevant to the material in the book or the test. Many test questions have answers that are not found in the notes, lecture or text and yes I attended every single class. Test answers are often ambiguous in nature and you can get marked off points even if you understand the ideas, but not his way of thinking
Dr. Chai is awesome!! ok agreed the material is a lil difficult 2 understand but if u ask him he guides u in the right direction. does not spoonfeed!!actually makes u stimulate ur brain cells and has the greatest and most bizarre examples which most of the times make sense. very helpful in office hrs strongly recommended!!
Dr. chai should not come here and rate himself. He is a horrible teacher....he should not be allowed to poison the minds of students with his "instruction" of molecular bio. You will unlearn stuff in this class.
The material is really not difficult to understand, there is just a lot of it. His twisted take on the material and his baffling "teaching" style make this course much harder than it should be. You would learn more with just the book.
Great professor. What these morons fail to realize is the skills that he teaches. Molec IS NOT HARD. If you understand the simplicity of the subject you will get it. He only tries to get people to think about what they are doing, and apparently students don't like it. He is a great professor, yeah sometimes his speech is if-y but I'll tell you

Dr. Chai is AWESOME!!! he is one of my fav. prof. @UCF i understand many find him difficult to understand but according to me all u have to do is go to class and "keep ur mind open" its not that hard just LISTEN 2 what he says he explains things with 'bizzar' examples but they help!! :) AND GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS !!!!!!!!!!! lol :) trust me !! :)
When you ask him a question, he gives you a 15 minute long answer and when he's done you're like "WTF just happend?". On tests, he uses sneaky chinese wording and mind tricks to MAKE you pick the wrong answer, then he chuckles.
He is horribly ineffective as a professor. UCF has no standards and apparently doesnt care about quality of instruction as evidenced by the fact that this clown is teaching. He should be deported.
This class will test you. I have never studied so much in my life. I took molec 2 with chakrabarti and chai made molec 2 look like a cake! Learned alot in this crazy chinese man's class, but man is he a handful. I had to step it up and become a studying hermit crab for this class. STUDY STUDY (READ BOOK, RECORD LECTURES, and CRAM CRAM CRAM)
Nice professor, keeps class entertained, BUT this is one class where u can recite everything in the textbook and know wut he says in lecture and still do less than good. He tests u on how well u can THINK like him.... which is BS and unfair!
Great professor!! Very helpful and inspires you to think about things instead of just memorizing facts. Go to class and his office hours for clarification and you will do well.
He is an awesome professor!! This is the only class that has challenged me at UCF. You will learn to think differentely rather than memorizing the book. Attend his lectures and make sure you answer the questions he randomly says in class-those will be on his essays. Use his office hours or email him, he really cares about his students.
all the negative comments such as asking a questions having him blab on for 20mins and then asking yourself...wait a sec... what just happened? did he answer my question? most of the times he hopes his metaphors work; but they dont! dr. chai just take a deep breath speak slower and go from the book. more ppl will learn this way and understand.
This prof. makes you think. come on you have been in sciences how many years. he is right you know everything, he is just making you apply it your knowledge. This class has really made me interested in what I have been learning all along. The tests are hard, but manageable.
he is the worst professor ive ever had.....attendance is not required but highly recommended bc some test questions come from what he mentions in his class. write down EVERYTHING he says. use the book to study for exam 2 and hope for a good grade on the other exams bc dont know where the test questions come from. overall he is a horrible prof!!!
This professor will definitely make you apply your knowledge of molecular biology! You have to attend the lectures. I had to study more than I have ever studied for any class. RECORD LECTURES! Nice professor and is helpful. Don't be fooled by the accent, he knows his material! Be prepared to be challenged. For all you slackers like me......BEWARE!
Might be the worst professor I've had thus far in three years. Ego driven, here is a direct quote from Chai the first day of class, "I am one of three people in the world that know everything there is to know about Molecular Biology, there is nothing I don't know." Second, Chai, states the textbook required for the course, the one he ordered for
I had Chai two years ago and absolutely loved his class... and that is because he makes you think and doesnt make you copy and paste material from textbook into exams like other professors at UCF... My advice is to record lectures and ask questions... great class!
The worst professor that I have ever had. He doesn't know what he is doing. I firmly believe that you "unlearn" in this class. His "teaching" does much more harm than good. He rips tests questions from the subject GRE as he is too lazy/unintelligent to come up with his own.
I would not recommed this teacher. He makes up test questions from stuff he never covered in class so even if you study very hard, like I'm doing, you won't get a good grade. He has very bad grammar so a lot of his test questions make no sense at all; he cannot pronounce the word "synthesis" and he won't respond to your e-mails.
Let's hit the pros and cons: Pros: He has short tests, the material is not too massive Cons: the test questions are made up and really don't correspond to what a person studies; it will make u laugh how random his questions are I give him a big fat 0!! regards, Objective poster
The worst class ever. He should not be allowed teach. He thinks he is right about everything and "corrects" your misconceptions from the book, other teachers, nobel prize winners ect.. His test questions come out of nowhere, class attendance is not necessary and wont help you do well. This class makes the entire semester suck! Biochem is easier.
It is not that he is overly hard...it is that he is a horrible teacher. I did much better after I stopped attending class after realizing his lectures were just exercises in confusion. He should not be allowed to teach anything, anywhere.
In a word: Worthless. His class teaches you nothing, while he tests on things like nobel prize winners that had nothing to do with the material being taught.
Chai has lead many angry/confused people here. Passively, he's lead them to a door that says "new major" and now should read and open it. Read the text and related texts, andhe will make this science/concepts very simple for you. He's a very mastered individual and has demonstrated success in the field. He will integrate everything you should know.
He is a terrible professor. Case closed. I recieved an A in the class but I was entirely self-taught. Luckily the book is good and there are plenty of resources out there to help. This should be an online class with standardized tests. This would allow the department to completely remove the "chai element" as it is simply counterproductive.
This is the worst teacher I have EVER taken! He answers questions with other questions and makes riddles out of them. He loves to talk about who he knows in science community. Very confusing to learn from. He does NOT understand that this is not an accelerated PhD program. He should stick to his research. Tests are short & conceptual. RUN!
I have never seen someone obfuscate a subject as thoroughly as he does. It makes me wonder if he really knows what he is talking about. As one professor told me, if they can't teach it they really don't know it themselves.
The people that complain about Dr. Chai are looking at this wrong. He makes you raise your game like few professors ever will. Look at his class as a challenge, an exercise in becoming a better student. One of the best professors I have ever had; I'm honored to have studied under him.
I think that last comment was written BY the professor. I'm sorry, but giving a test with the majority of the material on it never being discussed or told you were responsible for is just wrong! Wouldn't 190 students failing a test out of 250 give someone a clue... and the dept. director refuses to look into the issue!!! Chai even admitted that!
I have NO clue how to do well in this class. The people I know that are doing well are literally geniuses or have taken genetics one and two. Good luck, take someone else if there is any way possible. I have studied the book, lectures, internet, still have failed every test.
The worst Professor ever. He is a sadist.Enjoys testing on material never covered in class or in the book. 75% of the class is failing for no reason of theirs. Can someone do anything about this?
horrible professor-- i am currently a senior in M&M and have never had a C, and when i faced Chai at the beginning of the semester i thought that it could be a course that you could self teach yourself the material-- but its not-- I have never been so lost in how to study for a course-- and im not a sole example, most of the calss is failing-- RUN!
Very nice man to have a conversation with, but cannot teach his way out of a wet paper bag. This is the first time I have spent 4 months learning NOTHING, and it is pretty discouraging. Despite failing every exam (along with the vast majority of a class of 250), I magically ended up with a C. I wish it meant something for my education.
Dr. Chai is a nice man and he is funny, but his class is near impossible. He does curve a LOT though because everyone is failing. I ended up with an A after all the curves, but I got lucky. His tests pretty much test you on stuff that we never covered in class at all and the stuff that we did cover were still hard. If you have him, good luck
DO NOT TAKE CHAI! He is the WORST professor on campus. He sees himself as a "resource" NOT a teacher. I havent learned a thing from him all semester. He says you should already know everything from all your past classes and doesnt believe that he should have to teach you a thing. If you take him good luck bc youll need it for his tests!
This so called "teacher" should have been fired years ago. He tests on things you cant study for. I go to every lecture, read the notes, relisten to the lectures, and read the book and got an F on the test. Some of the people that got Bs on the test didnt come to class AT ALL before the test. It is a mystery as to how he still has a job!!! DONT TAK
Dr. Chai is a great person to talk with after class or during office hours. With that said, he is horrible at giving lectures and teaching in general, and even worse at giving tests that solely rely on prior knowledge of Genetics and Biochemistry (which is probably why those who didn't come to class did good).
Probably not my favorite teacher but definitely one of my bests. I'm not sure what my grade is at this point, but I really appreciated how we were expected to apply our knowledge, rather than the usual memorization in M&M. Really should record lectures and take the time to think like Chai. It was challenging, but my grades increased with every test
Brilliant guy..however quite possibly the worst professor I have ever had. Requires you to use "previous" knowledge bc he won't teach you a thing in this class. I probably could've walked in on every test day w/o knowing there was a test and received the same grade. Take when Chai is only a fraction of the professors. Nightmare but not impossible
One word sums it up...HORRIBLE! Dr. Chai is a brilliant man but a horrible professor. Be prepared to psychoanalyze every lecture and follow him around after class with hopes he will discuss something that might be on the upcoming test. Tests are ridiculous.
He is not a teacher to EVER take! He is horrible. I don't know what he talked about at all, he just talks in circles. He started the first day by asking "what is molecular biology and how does it relate to life?" and only did two slides. He thinks he is such a brilliant expert, but honestly an expert would know how to teach students. AVOID TAKING!!
Wow, I am so glad I didn't have to endure Dr. Chai's lectures for more than a week. I appreciate that he tries to get his students to think critically, but the way he goes about it doesn't really work well. Good luck to anyone who has to take him for a full semester.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take his class. Better stay one extra semester, but save your GPA. I never got a D in my life, I consider myself a good student and although I read all the comments before taking the class, I thought "how bad could it be?" You can memorize the book and the powerpoints and still barely make a C. Horrible!
Chai makes the subject very easy. Don't bother studying, tests are open book/notes/internet. He doesn't require memorization of any kind, rather he requires his students to conceptualize and think critically. Pay attention/interact & he will connect the dots well. If not, try finding a new major. Through simplicity he will elicit brilliance.
I would def have to agree with the poster who said that a change of major would be a good idea. The quality of Chai's instruction is an accurate reflection of the M&M dept. If you are thinking of majoring in M&M here, don't, run, major in something where you can find a job when you graduate.
I enjoyed this class very much. I wish Dr.Chai taught more courses. The first week was a little startling but after that you soon catch on. RECORD his lectures and take note of everything he says. The book isn't much use. Figure out his style of teaching and you will pass.
The professor's approach in teaching this subject is desperately in need of a change of method. Knowing the material in and out versus teaching it a large group are two different concepts. STUDY, READ, STUDY, & kiss your high GPA goodbye. No one cares and UCF already got your money. Oh again...STUDY!
You can read his notes and the text and get nowhere. This guy is terrible, he spends more time lecturing on how qualified he is and what papers he's published. Test avgs. never reached 60%. He teaches the correct mechanisms and functions in class but has theoretical cases he's made up with completely different answers. Test ?'s are paragraphs long
The exams are applied questions, and that is unfair because neither the book nor his lectures offer any application examples. The test questions are also very hit or miss-a bunch of 2 paragraph stories with 3-4 questions pertaining to each, so if you get one wrong, you get them all wrong. Brutal class. Test avg about 40%.
Why study? You could study 200 hours, or never even look at a page or take a single note. Either way you will look at the exam and wonder the same thing ... WTF is this? Is this the right exam?
His exams are not reflective of how much you learn, just how well you learn to take tricky tests. You will not learn much in the class. The book is really good, unfortunately the tests are not even close to the book. :(
I figured people were just complaining because Molecular Bio is a difficult subject. No! They were right, he is impossible. Tests have nothing to do with what you know. The two people passing the exams he hailed as brilliant. How about they were just able to get his tricky testing antics, and actually had no clue what they were talking about.
I had Dr. Chai for one hour of PCB3522 and I did not learn anything. He stood in front of the class and asked students random questions, criticizing them if their answer wasn't worded perfectly. He didn't even open his slides or cover anything relevant. I cannot imagine taking an entire course with him, and advise against it if possible.
For anyone attempting to take Dr. Chai: Stop memorizing information, as an organic tutor I see the difference between someone who actually can think critically about a subject and one who just memorizes it. Open up your mind, discuss with others, and stop studying for just the A, appreciate and learn the subject and you will succeed!
The first thing you must understand is that Chai is NOT a typical professor. Unlike most courses, he will not go over reams of slides and information which you can memorize and parrot back. You must engage in the material and thought processes. Recommended if you are interested in biomed research.
Dr. Chai was an amazing professor. He has slides prepared but tends to teach off-the-cuff. He does not teach molecular biology in a linear fashion and often lets the students' questions drive the course. He has thought-provoking opposing views to some authors and shares his insights with the class. He's not easy. Stay engaged and ask questions.
I believe that he was not effective at all as an instructor. His lectures were rambling and out of focus and the tests were only tangentially based on anything he covered. I would suggest that you avoid him if you expect that you should learn from your classes.
One of the first things he said to the class was that 90% of people will not understand him. Luckily I was one of the 10% because that man taught me more about how to learn than he did human molecular genetics and I learned a ton about the subject. I followed him everyday after class and he would welcome me into his office, which was always open.
When a professor states that most of the class will not understand him, that should be a red flag. It means that the professor has a problem conveying the material, is aware of it, but does not care. As one professor told me, if they can't teach it, they don't know it.
Dr. Chai makes it clear that this is not a "memorization" class, he will force you to think critically. He always tries to engage students during his lecture, so take advantage of this! Exams are open book/note. He may seem to lecture off topic but it usually ties in with the material. He's also a nice guy. Definitely a tough class but I recommend.
Believe me when I say stay AWAY from this guy. This guy does not care about teaching. All he talked about was how rich he is and all his credentials. If you want to actually learn molecular biology, take anyone else. I'm not dumb, I got A's in micro, molec 2, physio, genetic, etc. you will the whole semester trying to pass the professor not class.
It shoud be clear from the majority of the reviews that the class is not taught in a conventional manner, that being that it is not taught at all. The instructor is obligated to teach and obviously is not interested in it or good at it. The enrollment numbers in his elective classes tell the story you need to know.
If he's not busy "curing cancer" he's giving awful lectures. Don't really know why he's teaching if he puts barely any effort into it. He gives 3 regular exams and a final, final can replace lowest test. Only true way to study is to go over practice exams. But if you have the opportunity, I'd switch professors or drop the course altogether.
Seriously, I don't know how this guy is still teaching. From the tests you take, only about 10% is what you actually learned in class. He'll make tests with wording that seems impossible. Averages were always a "D". His lectures are pretty dry. Avoid him at all costs!!!!!
I just took him for Fall 2016 semester. This was literally the worst class I've ever taken. It doesn't matter if you read the book, and it doesn't matter if you read the powerpoints. All the exams are open book/note what ever you want, but that doesn't matter either. You're basically guessing to the best of your ability. Avoid him at all costs.
Just to save you time, avoid him. Never in my all of my classes did I feel unprepared for a test than I did in this class. His test questions are usually paragraphs long and had to do with an out of the box experiment rather than the actual material you should be covering. By the end of each class, you got out and learned nothing.
This is not a teacher you can go up to and ask to change your grade. This is not a teacher, that just lets you show up for tests; and doesn't care if you show up to class. He is basically, what you should expect of a professor at a university. If you listen, you learn. If you expect to memorize some key words. You fail.
DO NOT TAKE. EXAMS ARE STUPID HARD. He allows you to use the internet but it's essentially useless. Curves 5Q every exam (25Q) but even that has people failing. Going to class is useless, as he goes on rants /brags every other sentence, and you have no idea what he's talking about. Trust the previous reviews! SAVE YOUR GPA
Wish I listened to previous reviews. Awful professor, impossible to pass even with open notes. Professor is very arrogant and teaches that everything we learned is "wrong" and poorly attempts to teach the "truth"
DO NOT TAKE HIM! No matter how you study, it will not be enough. His exams are impossible! I did not learn anything in this class.
I never rate professors, but I felt like I had to since his ratings are so bad. I have never learned so much from a single professor. Exams are hard because its the first college class that actually makes you think. You will learn so much from this professor. Record lectures and go to his office hours. The more you talk to him the better you do.
Critical thinking class, NOT fact-based. Just need to be able to read questions and understand WHAT asking to do... You don't need to memorize crazy things. He goes off on tangents, but is a good person and wants you to succeed! Read the book + listen to powerpoints. Gives THICK curves, and then 86 is an A. don't listen to negative reviews.
Do not take this man. The whole class was failing and he just curved, but even with the curve we're all failing. His lectures are confusing, he goes on tangents and takes you in circles and never gets to the point. He doesn't give any test help other than his confusing book he wrote himself. Don't let the curve fool u, spare urself and ur gpa
The grade is based on only 3 exams and a final. Theres no practice tests, homework, or even TAs that can help you. Dr. Chai goes on awful tangents and likes to say a lot of molec bio is NOT true. He doesnt even provide lecture material so you have to buy his book, which is awfully worded like his lectures. Did not prepare me to go to molec bio 2
He gets a bad rap because people don't get that he wants you to understand how molecular mechanisms/genetics works, how to approaches problems in real life. You aren't memorizing or doing hard math, google and calculators are for that. He also tells anecdotes you might get lost on, that's why it's best to listen in the moment/record audio for later
Professor Chai does not provide any class material to study besides the textbook he wrote which is TERRIBLE. The analogies in the book are harder to understand than the regular scientific terms. I would NOT recommend him at all. He often goes off topic and gets carried away which gets you screwed even if you do attend to lecture and read the book.
I highly suggest to, Take notes! as fast as you can. Be super creative. or use smart notes! Read d book before and after class. "Recording is illegal," he said. He might not speak a perfect English, but he knows the material, at least. For foreign students, it's super difficult. He doesn't get to the point quick. Think fast. Tough Exams.
Do not take this class. I repeat do not take this class with Karl. It is going to drop your GPA, trust me. The book is just as confusing as his lectures and it is of no help in understanding the concepts. The people who do well bought a different book than the one in the syllabus. Take anyone else, I already took a hit in my GPA don't do what I did
I feel like if everyone stopped taking his class UCF would find a much better candidate to teach this course. He gets mad at students for asking questions during review office hours, you should know this?? He wrote his own textbook and its just as gibberish as his lectures. Do not take this class with him. Wait another semester for someone else
WORST PROFESSOR. DON'T TAKE HIM. I'VE NEVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE HAD A "D" IN A CLASS AND THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME. I was about to withdraw from the class and I emailed him and tell him about it so he can help me and he said to not withdraw that I still have hopes to pass the class and that he was going to help me. HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. 0 RATING!
Dr. Chai is more concerned about you actually learning something, rather than memorization. The grade is based on just exams, however the curves are very gracious. Just try to follow along in the lecture and simply ask if you have a question. You'll be fine! Good luck!
there are four exams each worth 20%, no assignments nor homeworks. his lectures are as confusing as his book. if i could go back in time, i would avoid him at all costs!
Don't take him. Only source of information is his lectures and the textbook that he wrote. There are no powerpoints, homeworks, or practice questions. Didn't even cover five chapters because his lectures have no structure and he talks about random stuff. Textbook just as bad. I can't fit everything wrong here lol. You wont be prepared for Molec 2.
One of the worst professors by far. Although he gives great curves it does nothing if you do not understand the material. Was lost the entire semester his lectures have no relevance to what you will need to know for the course. Very disappointed because I was looking forward to this class.
Dr. Chai is a really fun professor, and has great lectures. Course is test heavy as there is no hw or quizzes to post grade but does curve.
Dr. Chai is extremely smart and I enjoyed his lectures...but we would sometimes get side-tracked. The lectures I found were hard to follow, so read the text before going to class! It is recommended attending every lecture. This class was extremely difficult and very different compared to how other classes are taught.
Do not take this professor under any circumstances
He's a nice guy but not a good professor. His lectures don't make sense but they can make a little bit of sense if you read the textbook along with his lecture and write what he says. His exams are open note and curved 15%. He gives really good advice on med school apps if you just ask. Go to every class, no matter how boring or hard it gets.
Dr. Chai has a very different method of teaching and explains concepts in an elaborate way that sometimes doesn't make sense. He uses his own textbook, so it's not like you can use it for clarity. He has good intentions, but most people struggled in this class. Sometimes he came off condescending, IMO. Overall, get ready to out in the work.
Dr. Chai is an amazing man, but not a good professor. He gets off topic so often. His exams are online, and they are difficult. It is mainly on what he talks about in lectures so make sure to attend every single one if you plan to proceed with this professor. His jokes are funny sometimes. The textbook is one he wrote and he does not post the ppts.
Absolutely hilarious class in every aspect. In order to pass, you'll need to buy a $90 book from a non-ucf affiliated website lmao. Some lectures make sense, others he will just ramble and you'll come out re-thinking your life decisions. However, Dr. Chai is approachable and will help with graduate school/research opportunities, so there's that!
His lectures are a bit boring (because he can go on tangents) but necessary if you want to do good. He is a good guy but not that good of a teacher. Asking questions won't afford you a lot of understanding. Unless you go to lectures, you really have no idea what the exams are going to have on them, some trivial questions as well.
Professor Chai's lectures can be all over the place, but the textbook he wrote is a must-read. Attend every class and use Unstuck AI alongside the book to prepare for the challenging exams.
