Great Class, and he's an Awesome teacher
VERY funny.. kinda makes art history interesting!
The GREATEST Art History teacher EVER... only arth that i didn't fall asleep in.
excellent teacher-smart, funny. and remembers names
No Comments
He is a great professor to have Art history with. He enjoys his work and keeps
Very good teacher, however the exams (2) are strict memorization and lots of it.
smart, funny, friendly, makes it interesting, fair grader, I learned a lot!
not as easy as everyone says, 3 strict memorization tests,
get ready to memorize...other than that, great class!
The teacher is great but the subject matter sucks sooooooo much.
awesome teacher, very helpful, tough class, lots of memorization on exams
Need to memorize so so so much info for tests, but its an interesting course.
Wonderful teacher. Very intelligent and funny. He knows his stuff! I wish there were more teachers like him.
Grades good and will grade for improvement. He knows his stuff.

Great teacher, keeps it interesting. grades on improvement. states that he's really just a big softy looking for reasons to give you points, so write something! lots of memorizing, but good teacher.
horrible tests all memorizing slides... lots of memorizing... class is sooooo boring!!! hated it... drop it and change classes if you can... DO NOT TAKE!
He trys to make the lectures somewhat interesting and he definately knows what he is talking about. Only 3 tests, alot of memorization, and 1 not too difficult papers. Overall he is a pretty good teacher.
lots of memorizing slide dates, names, artists. i suggest making flash cards. very lenient when it comes to grades and gives extra credit work at the end of the semester. the paper is really easy and go to class, he takes attendance
DONT TAKE UNLESS YOU WANT TO LEARN 300+ SLIDES W/ DATE, SUBJECT, ARTIST, AND HISTORY. CRAZY HARD. DONT TAKE UNLESS YOU ENJOY MEMORIZING THINGS FOR HOURS UPON HOURS, JUST TO GET A C, AND THEN FORGET EVERYTHING W/ IN A WEEK AFTER TAKING THE COURSE. HATED IT
Really awful friut of a teacher, avoid his class!
One of the best profs I've had! The people who complain about the memorization are just lazy. I came into this class not caring about art, and he totally changed my perspective. And he's cute and super nice! He really wants you to do well and learn.
He was by far and away the best teacher I ever had. He made me appreciate art history. He knows we can handle the tough memorization. Those looking for an easy A should drop. Willing to work? He's the BEST
He's pretty nerdy and boring which makes him hard to listen to. He doesn't have very good people skills.
Best prof I've ever had! I'm an English major, but I loved this class. He's funny, cute, and VERY smart. Those who complain about the class being hard are lazy. I got an A with a reasonable amount of work. Go in during office hours; he's easy to talk to.
Very nice and funny but tons and tons of work. This class is made for grad students but there aren't any in the class. Gives lots of As but there is soo much work!!
BEST art history teacher EVER. the subject sucks, but he makes it interesting- uses humor to make points. I don't get why people complain about memorizing- it's art history- you HAVE to do it. Besides he grades less on mem. than most teachers do.
He is boring to listen to. He goes off on tangents and when he is teaching he doesn't seem to talk about anything but his personal opinion. And if a student can prove his opinion wrong, he will basically tell them to stop talking.
he is a nice and funny guy! he made me interested in art history, even though the lectures can be boring. no tests! :)
only had this class for about 4 weeks now and i already love this guy. makes art fun. i went into this class thinking i would be bored out of my mind but he keeps u interested for a full hour and fifteen min. tests are pretty easy...IF and only if u study
Great techer. His lectures are funny, and if you memorize the slide list, and take notes during class, and just review you'll do fine BONUS gives alternative assignments to research paper.
Boring confusing class..no point-all about "text&image," no tests but HARSH on participation, if you dont comment on EVERY SINGLE THING you will NOT get an A...huge project is only other grade (worksheets due every day) if you take this class TA
very interesting lectures, teaches you to appriate art, 3 exams 1 paper, exams primary on slides, highly rec! Best arth teacher at towson by far. if your a art major easy, if your not-take another gen ed 50+ SLIDES to remember, attend require!
out of all the art history professors that I have had- he is the best. He grades on improvement and doesn't put as much emphasis on memorization... take him. hes not boring. he makes things intresting.
teacher is NOT boring, and is very helpful if anything is unclear. he does keep the lecture fun and interesting, and grades papers fairly.
I have had Prof. Fugelso 2 times now and he is the GREATEST prof. ever. No complaints at all!!!! I have learned sssssoooo much from him. I took Eastern Asian art just because hes teaching it...
Let's be real. This subject is extremely boring but he makes it very interesting. I just wish he wouldn't dim the lights because that's the perfect way to make me take a nap.
my 4th art hist, wish he would dim the lights more so I could sleep easier, asks too many questions and wish he would just lecture, he makes u memorize more slides then some of the other art hist professors, there’s a LOT of memorization to say the lest, not too bad over all
Lots of memorization, about 50-70 slides per tests. Not too clear on what he wants for the slide comparsion part of the tests, but grades easy on them! One 3 page paper, which he says he grades easy on but DOESN'T!
Lets you do an art project instead of a research paper which is good, but he grades it hard-over all very cool guy, always willing to meet with you or give extra help
To quote him, he is a cupcake. Great professor, very helpful, always willing to listen, helps you with your papers or you you have any questions. I would definitely take him again!
The best way to prepare for tests are notecards. The memorization part of the test always killed everyone, so if you study hard for that, you should get at least a B. No homework, no reading.
He doesn't go too fast, and makes every thing clear.
I wasn't especially into Medieval art before taking this course, but he makes it quite interesting. Flash cards for memorization are a must. The scholarly readings are essential as well, challenging, but interesting nonetheless. Yeah, you have to memorize 80 slides for each exam, but it's worth it.
A very long semester taking this class. He drones on using words and terms that only a Art History major can follow. He tries to be hip but fails miserably.
I have had Prof. Fugelso for quite a few classes and he is a wonderful teacher. I highly recommend him for any class. He is one of those teachers that has inpired me to teach because he really gets his students to love art as much as he does.
I have all the art hist prof at TU and he's one of the better ones, art hist is a lot of memorization no matter who u have. Indeed "he's a cupcake" into art his and knows his stuff, wont bother u if you sleep either, takes Attendance, blik
he looks and acts like Bob Saget with his corny jokes and lisp. not a bad teacher. the lectures seem endless and routine but the tests are always fair and predictable as well. MAKE FLASH CARDS there is a TON to memorize but with silly ways to remember pictures it comes back to you easily on exams.
this class is boring, but Karl makes it fun, he's always side tracking with some very funny stories...he's a goober...but his classes are a lot of fun, his life stories are hillarious...actually he's an interesting guy to watch...he does some funny things...you learn a lot in his classes even though sometimes it gets boring..he's great!
the biggest dork you'll ever meet but hes REALLY smart.. def. knows what hes talkin about and has been all over the world. makes a corny joke here and there to keep u awake during lecture.. hes a real nice guy.. take fugelso hes a good teacher
This man is awesome. He is so funny in lectures, and he is really willing to help you out whenever you need it. He makes you work hard, but he makes you care enough to want to as well.
Awesome teacher. Great lectures and lots of fun. He makes you do a lot of work, but then he is a very fair grader.
Very easy class! The exams are very easy. I got a 95 and this was my first art history class. Make Note Cards to study. Its the only way. Highly recommend this class. NOT BORING!!
If you have to take Art History, you HAVE to take it with Fugelso! He is the best. Class is a dream compared to ARTH221 with Lynette Mooney last semester. Tests are fair and I like the format. He is an awesome teacher that keeps you interested and awake. He is hilarious. One of the smartest teachers I know. Really cares about his students.
Loved him. I had to leave in the middle of the semester due to personal issues and he completely understood and was so kind and considerate. His lectures are hilarious and witty and he definitely gets excited about his subject. Would completely recommend taking a class with him.I know that I will take more with him.
Karl is an amazing man. A story teller, friend, teacher and confidant. If you attend Towson University, take an art history course with Professor Fugelso. HE IS THE MAN!
Great teacher! Only art history teacher anyone should take. he could make a blank canvas interesting. Awesome storyteller too.
Do NOT take if you are non Art History. If you are, you will love him. Fair grader, expects a lot from students.
Awesome teacher! He makes a class that could be so boring funny and interesting. I would recommend taking him to everyone. Exams are much easier than mooneys. You don't have to memorize nearly as much. Essay parts were not hard at all.
Great professor!! Art History is going to be hard no matter what but he makes it as easy as he can. The tests are just 20 fill in the blank artist/title/or date and 5 compare/contrast on which he's a pretty easy grader. He's a great story teller and super nice and funny. Loved him!
Fugelso is the man! good teacher, makes a pretty boring subject into something cool and is a funny guy...Alot to remember and tests are not super easy but if you study and car you ill get an A, Participate in class and he will help you out. knows names and is a good guy, a bit of a nerd and a "cupcake" but definately recommended!
Half the way through the lessons, he speaks Italian and thinks that we understand. He is extremely slow and disorganized. He loses big projects and assignments and then blames you for not doing them. If you have a choice, take my word and don't take him. For your own sake, steer as far away from him as possible. He'll just talk about his daughter..
fugelso is absolutely amazing. he is probably the best art history professor at towson. we are so fortunate to have him. i thoroughly enjoy all of his classes. he is so knowledgeable and i love his stories that he shares with the class.
Great teacher, though you have to memorize a TON of information: you have to know three facts for each piece for the identifications because he only asks for one. The essays aren't too bad, just write everything you know; that's where you'll get the most points. Very helpful though, as long as you do the notecards...
I love this guy! He is sooo knowledgeable. Tests are pretty hard because you have to memorize a TON of info.. definitely make flash cards!!! He sometimes goes off on random tangents and tells funny stories about his life/daughter. 3 tests, one easy museum paper. I definitely recommend him!
Good teacher. Actually animated and funny so the class isnt so boring since the material is. He's a really easy and leniant grader but you have to know alot of information for the tests,so just come to class since he takes attendance and pay attention and you'll do fine.
Karl is so awesome! He is hilarious and such an easy grader. Obviously you have to memorize a lot of stuff (its art history people..) But! he is so nice and lenient when it comes to dates, titles, and authors. You don't have to read the text book but I would suggest getting it to refer to the paintings. Karl is just fabulous, def. take his class
Wonderful and very helpful. Also very communicative and articulate with great stories that help you to remember things! Thank you Karl Fugelso for making my time at Towson worthwhile. :)
Fugelso is the greatest! He is SO easy-- tests are mainly essays. You need to memorize a LOT more images than other art history classes, but the essays make up for it. I got almost 100% on all of mine. VERY funny and animated! VERY willing to help with ANYTHING! Super nice. One of my favorite professors at Towson.
What a great teacher!Even if you have had difficulties in Art History in the past, do not pass him up- he goes above and beyond to help his students succeed!
Very nice guy, helpful, accommodating. Memorization of roughly 60 images prior to each exam (tested on a random 20 for artist/date/or title). Likes people who are respectful and make some type of effort. Buy the book to reference the images.
Loved him. He's definitely my favorite of all the art history professors I've had. Very funny in a slightly nerdy way...he reminds my a lot of Allen from Two and a Half Men. If you do better on the 2nd test than you did on the 1st, he'll change the point scale so you're 2nd test is worth more. SO NICE. If you want an A, you can get an A. TAKE HIM.
Fantastic teacher! I am not an art major & I got an A in the course. A lot of memorizing artwork's title, artist & dates. 3 test. He likes when you participate. Very friendly & great during lectures (I stayed in the class because I found him so entertaining). I highly recommend him.
I LOVE DR. KARL. he wants to give everyone an a. he tells funny stories and jokes which makes it helpful to remember small details. he also talks about his daughter and family a lot which is hilarious. two thumbs up! he keeps me awake in ARTH
actually made ARTH interesting and fun
Karl is the best arth professor I've had. He makes it so interesting. He will laugh at the paintings with you, but also passionately share all he knows about the painters life, culture, etc. Tests are straightforward. No need to buy the book. 1 big assignment- a paper OR art ed lesson plan.
Fugelso is a great professor. I had him last semester for Arth and honestly i couldnt of asked for a better teacher for art history. He knew how to keep you interested during the lecture and was pretty easy with the grading. Class participation helps alot.
Dr. Fugelso is a wonderful teacher and always willing to explain things more than once if you need clarification. The syllabus had a list of what he expects/grades for and he's great at keeping students interested during lecture! Definitely taking class with him again.
Professor is absolutely amazing, knowledgeable, values student participation and is simply amazing.
He's very informative and really encourages you to do well. At first I thought the second part of the art course would be difficult because there's so many artworks to memorize. But Karl Fugelso is a very helpful and nice professor! I recommend students taking him because he's geniune and cares about his students.
He is such a great professor. Lectures are long and you have to memorize at least 150 cards per chapter. But he makes it fun and easy to be in the class. He knows how hard it is to memorize all the pieces so he gives advice all the time on how to memorize everything. He also grades a great deal on participation as well. I recommend him.
Great professor. Extremely knowledgeable in his field. Has some funny stories and insights. Gives great lectures. All his classes are 100% lectures. His tests are kind of difficult. Tons of slides to remember. The writing portions aren't bad if you do the readings. He takes participation into account for the final grade, so if participate youll pas
Karl is a great professor. He genuinely cares about his students success. He is very accessible outside of class and will respond to an email within 12 hours. He was very helpful with writing skills. His lectures aren't boring at all and his stories are pretty funny. He does take attendance, but is understanding if you need to miss a class.
Best Professor I ever had. He really cares for his students and wants them to do well. He is very intelligent and does a great job conveying his knowledge. He is extremely funny (be prepared to crack up!) and keeps your attention.
Karl is by far my favorite professor and person. He's hilarious and teaches with such a passion that t's impossible to be bored. He keeps your attention and explains everything in great detail so you have good notes. There's 3 unit exams- one counting as the midterm and one as the final- and one 2 page museum paper. I'd definitely take him again.
I took this class as an non art major and somehow he made me interested in the course. He's funny and tells personal stories. I really appreciated him as a teacher and I probably would have dropped if it werent for him. art history is extremely boring. I still get bored during the lectures but it could be so much worse. He want everyone to succeed
Professor Fugelso is hilarious. He always has the funniest stories. He focuses on major themes of art, rather than specific identifications. You don't need the textbook, the exams are directly from the lectures and his assigned readings. Even if you are not an art history major, I would definitely recommend his class!
Karl is the best Art History teacher bar none. If he has a class you need, work your schedule around his time slots, it's worth it. I had always heard about how dry Art History at Towson was, but Karl made me extremely interested in each new era. U do need to pay attention or you'll be lost for his tests. Stay after class to talk with him if u can
The other awesome reviews are 100% accurate. Best professor I have ever had. He KNOWS his stuff. In just one short semester I feel like Im an expert on Art history now too. So interesting to listen to and theres only three tests and one 2 paged paper. NO reading or annoying homework assignments! Tests are great format. He wants you to succeed.
Lectures are extremely interesting, very informative
I love Karl!!!! He really knows what he's talking about and his lectures are so interesting. But if you take his ARTH classes you better be good at taking notes because his power points dont say anything about the paintings or artists. If you dont show up you will and I mean WILL miss out on a lot of content.
Absolutely great professor, definitely makes you more comfortable with art history even if you're not an art major. Super fun and relaxed person!
One of the best professor's I have ever had. If you could take one extra class at Towson then an art history class with Dr. Fugelso would be the best use of your money. He is kind, funny, and a caring person. You will see amazing art, hear great stories, and learn so much!
I took ARTH 309 as a non art major with no prior art history experience and I would highly recommend Prof. Fugelso for anyone in a similar position. No textbook is necessary and tests are drawn straight from lectures and short readings. Prof. Fugelso makes the class very accessible to non art majors and concepts are broad and easy to understand
Karl is one of Towson's best profs. His course is somewhat of some work, but if you put in the time and efforts you will get an A. He's great at emailing back and will read your papers and return with feedback promptly. Use that email as a tool and talk to him often. 3 papers total. One 5 page essay, one 5 page analysis, one 10 page research.
Love love LOVE Karl! He is an amazing and considerate person. I was having some health issues and was late on turning a few things in, or didn't do an assignment correctly and because I was transparent on what was going on - he let me fix/turn it in without penalty. So passionate about what he teaches, and is so knowledgeable on the topics.
OK. Had to drop this class the first time I took it. It is completely asynchronous and you can fall behind FAST. Lectures are 2-hour long audio lectures with no visuals besides the powerpoints that are hard to follow along. The ONLY way I passed this class was because I transcribed all of the lectures and used his own words on the exam.
Great professor - has questions in the beginning and end of lectures which guide the discussion and reinforce main ideas. Super good lecturer - I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class
Karl has amazing lectures- you get the sense he knows what he's talking about. However, if you're not keen on getting graded on only a midterm, final, project, and attendance, I don't think this class is a good fit. Also note that his tests are ALL timed writing, and you have to read five 30 page essays to answer 2 essay questions on the tests.
Loved this class so much but I know others who really struggled and didn't enjoy it. You get out what you put in. If you do the practice essays and the reading with them it really helps it stick for the exams. If you don't you're SOL because the questions are specific. Also no computers or technology during lectures.
Kind of a DILF not gonna lie
Professor Karl's ARTH307 class is challenging but rewarding. While it requires a lot of reading and timed writing, the lectures are engaging and the professor is understanding. Using Unstuck study alongside the textbook can be a game-changer for study prep.
Knos wut he's talkin bout
Great prof, great guy
His class is very lecture heavy and exam heavy. The lectures don't have power points so you have to take really good notes in class, and not miss a class.
The man has so much teaching experience and knowledge of the field that I couldn't imagine a better instructor. He's a little awkward one-on-one, but is extremely caring and a genuine joy to learn from. His lecture approach is almost like a stand-up comedy set in the energy and pacing he brings to the table. A genuine inspiration.
