not bad. His class is not as boring as some may have you think. I had him for age of segragation. It is not a hard class as long as you read some of the work. Not hard read at all.

Very Easy. But very boring. Bring a pillow and sleep, and you'll still get a B or A. Never had anyone so dry in my life. Talks a lot about slavery

I have taken 3 classes with Karl Johnson and yes he is boring but it is the easiest class ever. He tries hard but I just don't think he prepares enough for his lectures!

Good teacher. We watch a lot of movies. Makes it easier to understand. Puts notes online on the WebCT. Would definitely recommend him as a professor.

took all 3 courses he teaches, easy as can be. Learned a fair amount, a bit repetitious, all 3 courses felt like they were the same thing pretty much, but I would take another class with him definitely.

Not too bad, very laid back and a very easy grader. Didn't pay attention at all or study for the midterm and got a B+ on it, extremely open ended question for the midterm. You get to watch a lot of movies and can just sign in at the beginning of class and leave if you want.

Great professor... He will help you and if you show up pay attention and do the work you will get a good grade... He is personally my favorite professor...

Yo, take this class ASAP if you need some extra credts. It is also an easy "A". Basically all you do is watch movies containing black actors and write about 6 of the movies. There are also 2 online quizzes and a Film Festival to organize. Other than that, it's total chill!

Took over the summer. Was a lot of reading, but you could get away with not reading the books, except for the 2 quizzes that come directly from the books.Shows a lot of movies(just about every class)uses power point presentations that are also online.very fair grader.just looking to make sure you understand the concepts.i recommend.

Boring but so are a lot of professors. Its easy to get an A so id recomend him to anyone. The best part about the class is Karl constantly cracking himself up. Plus its garunteed he will walk into the trash can at least 5 times during every class, plus you watch a ton of movies.

Really is an excellent teacher (Ramapo's best). Cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Class can be a bit boring at times, and unfortunately too many students just rudely walk out or have others sign them in. I think he knows who they are though...and grades accordingly. I would definately take him again, and recommend him to everyone.

I took him twice, both times getting an A-. Hes really nice, if you take him for a once-a-week class you spend an hour and a half learning from him and then the rest is a movie. Everything you need to know is on the Web CT, gives you 4 days to do 2 0r 3 quizzes online, no quizzes are done in class. I would def. take him again!

easiest class ever. all you do is watch movies. there is an online blog about every 2 weeks but they are just on your opinions of a certain topic and he usually lets you out of class really early to do them. one midterm..it was a paper submitted online. overall very easy class.. take this to get rid of a gen ed

Johnson Relly enjoys his subject and it comes through alot in his teaching, maybe a little too much. He's easy as long as you show up for class

Online Intro to African Studies... sign into moodle application online every day... blog posts every other day.. 2 quiz's .. a midterm, final and 8 pg research paper, if you do the work you should get a good grade.. good guy

Social Issues is a good 100 level class. The teacher is nice and helpful. The requirements are straight foward.

Pretty good class, you watch a lot of movies and he's easy on the eyes.

Really liked him. Easy grader, takes attendance through sign in sheet and doesn't notice if people leave. You watch a lot of movies and most of his assignments are take home. You can tell he really knows his stuff.

hes suchhh a great professor. he really knows his stuff and is an extremely generous grader. he basically talks for the entire class thus..hes extremely boring. you cant help but like him because his classes are extremely easy and helpful. take him for EVERYTHING

I took Professor Johnson's online class over the summer for Contemporary Africa and it was pretty easy. He assigns a lot of reading but it's not all necessary. The midterm and final papers were easy, one paper that wasn't bad and a handful of assignments that we had to blog about. I would recommend him if you're doing online summer classes

Professor Johnson is extremely knowledgeable, and clear about what he expects. He assigns a lot of reading but only about 50 percent of it is necessary. He is always willing to help and he answers calls and emails very quickly. Very interesting class. I would take Johnson for everything! Nice man.

Karl Johnson is the love of my life. He is the kindest man at Ramapo College, and the only reason why I still attend. For real, thank you Karl.

Very laid back guy, he's nice too. All of the work was online and he was a lenient grader. Hard to get an A but also hard to get a C. Bs are easy to get. Lectures a lot, but overall cool dude. I'd take him for a GenEd. He's pretty funny.

He's so easygoing! For your blogs, it does take a bit of time over the weekend, but he's pretty chill on work during the week. A bit of reading to do, but it's not too challenging. He's nice, and he really knows his stuff! Not easy to get an A, but he mostly gives B's. I'm even going to take another course of his online. He rocks.

Slightly too much (annoying) work but easy grader. He gives most people 'B'. Highly recommend taking him.

This was an Afri Amer History course over winter break and the work of 3 months is compounded into 1 month, so every 3 days we submit a blog based on the readings and there is a midterm and final. You don't have to read all the textbook readings, but definitely go over the links, PowerPoints, and videos he posts. He's so helpful!

Professor Johnson is a good guy. Tries to make you laugh. But everyday is a lecture and I just zone out. It is hard to pay attention. To be honest you don't even need too. All of his assignments (all papers) are based on readings you had to do. He doesn't really teach much in class.

Easy class to pass. Just do all the essays. He accepts late papers and even gives partial credit to essays not turned it. You don't have to attend every class, but you should go at least twice a week. There's a sign in sheet and you can come in late.

Contemporary Africa is a very interesting and engaging course. I highly recommend taking this online course with Professor Johnson as they way he sets up the material allows for a lot of learning in a 5 week period.

I took Professor Johnson's online Contemporary Africa class. It consisted of 4 blogs, an essay format midterm and final, an African Art project, and African Movie critique. He is very nice and is very interested in the subject. He is quite caring and understanding. However, he can be a tough grader and unclear at times. I recommend the class.

I took the class over the summer online. Professor Johnson is very nice. You need the textbook for this course but not for much, just two blog posts. The rest of the course is a paper midterm and final, a movie review and power-point project. If you do the work, the course is easy. But he can be a tough grader and not leave a lot of feedback.

The online course is made up of four blogs, two of which are papers, a midterm and final (papers), a movie critique (paper), and an art project. There's a lot of papers so its important to not procrastinate. He gives good feedback and is very kind and generous.

I took Contemporary Africa in a 5 week summer course. Professor Johnson will always get back to you in a timely manner with any questions you have. Sometimes he is a little unclear, but you can tell he is very passionate about what he is teaching. He provides a lot of sources to help with assignments such as websites, articles and the two books.

Professor Johnson is one of my favorite professors at Ramapo. The class consisted of 5 Blogs, A paper midterm and Final, a project and a movie review. The class was simple and easy. I took his class for Hip-Hop in Society and it was an asynchronous class. He graded us based on discussion blog posts, midterm, final, and a 5 page analysis paper. He gave nice feedback every time there was a submission for work. I never got to meet him in person, but he genuinely cares for his students and wants them to do well in class.

Karl is one of the chillest people you'll meet. Two blog posts and a few papers. One of the few teachers who grades on your effort, and not off your material. Overall you he does not cover a ton of history, but spends a lot of time sidetracking himself. Isn't out to get anyone, lends a hand when you get stuck. 100% recommend him.

Had him for AFST-215, I particularly enjoy professor Johnsons enthusiasm and overall presence. Very informative and inspiring. His personal takes on issues can be invaluable, and he can deliver his points concisely and understandably, however he will stress and repeat important points.

Johnson is probably the nicest and funniest prof at Ramapo. Took him for two Gen Ed's hip hop and society and intro to Africa. He is truly an extraordinary lecturer and he knows his stuff. Ramapo is extremely lucky to have him. If you need to take your Gen Ed's make sure you take them with him!! Class is never stressful and you'll learn a lot.

Best professor on campus. Absolutely great teacher who knows a lot about what he is teaching. Attendance is lenient- he is very chill. Work is light, you need to put in an average amount of effort. Very fun and you can tell he enjoys what he does. He is very knowledgeable across multiple subjects. Gives great feedback. 10/10 would take again

African American in Film; Everything is online, he talks, you watch a movie (just go on your computer, he doesnt care), movie is done you leave. You might not learn much but it was a nice class.

Professor Johnson is very knowledgeable on Africa but I will warn sometimes class can be repetitive and a little boring. Graded on 4 blogs, a midterm paper, a presentation, a “mini” research paper (over 10 pages) and a super easy final. He gives u plenty of sources for ur papers and is lenient with dates. He is an easy grader and totally recommend!

Probably one of the easiest classes I have taken at Ramapo. Easy assignments, very chill professor. His lectures can be long but that's about it. Jokes around, tries to get the class involved. Would recommend honestly

I took this class as a free elective, and Professor Johnson was a great professor. He made the course very simple and easy to manage, and he is not a harsh grader at all. Assignments due on an every two week bases and offers more time if needed. only down side is the written exams for an online class but I definitely recommend taking the class.
