Keep up on writing essays or you're screwed
Liked the guy, pretty helpful and has good essay topics
Great guy, best english class i've ever taken. just keep up with the work
cool guy...good essay topics
takes roll, boring but easy
easy but his lessons are sometimes pointless and high school like. boring.
whoaw, an orgasmic experince all around
Great teacher and really nice guy! Essays were no to difficult. Go to class and
Great class. Very cool essay topics. I learned so much!!!
the best writing teacher at State...
Good professor, not the best but certainly not the worst. Good topics for papers
No Comments
Pretty easy class... Very helpful teacher... Class varies, sometimes interesting, sometimes not.
An easy B, struggled a bit for an A, but I dont like writing. A few quizzes, 3 essays: good topics, a little boring, lame jokes, nice guy, no sense of style. You can delay class if you talk-he loves discussion. Boring if the other students dont participate
Classes are pretty boring, but he is a very nice person. He likes it if you participate! Pretty interesting topics (writing).
Just talk and he'll be chill. Don't Make **** jokes, kinda iffy on that stuff. If you want, just show up late and say you were at the beach. Don't talk **** on his bike er helmet. Definitely chill.
One of the worst professors I ever had, Kline was boring, rude, & played favorites. He likes you if you kiss ass, so if stand good with him, be obnoxious & loud & lots of sucking up! He is also a hard grader, & his lectures & assignments are pretty boring
Good teacher and is very helpful in explanations of essays. Can be a tough when it comes to grades but is very open to new ideas and liberal writing. Class discussions are interesting, makes sure you participate.
he is a nice guy but has a hard time finishing his sentences. Is a hard grader. tells bad jokes but always has a smile. sometimes though, he seems bored with the class.
He is a good teacher, a little out there sometimes but if you participate it is an easy class. He is there if you want help.
very easy class. i actually enjoyed going. if you need help with anything he'll explain. and he's not that hard of a grader either. take him.
This teacher is awesome. You will do fine in this class if you have half a brain and know how to write decent papers. He is a fair grader, so you can expect ot reap what you sow.
HE DOES THESE WEIRD FACIAL EXPRESSIONS WHEN HE IS THINKING BUT OVERALL I THINK GETTING AN B OR AN A IN THIS COURSE IS LIKE CHEATING.
Karl is a great prof. He likes to have in class discussions about anything. The papers aren't too bad. He quizes on all reading assignments, they are easy if you read it. I got an A and I hate to write.
really laid back teacher. the longest paper we wrote was about 4-5 pgs. the rest were a page or more. spent most class time talking about the world. grades kinda harsh though...he probably rereads our papers 3 times before giving actual grade. BEST RWS TE
very laid back..his lectures are about 15 minutes..which is not bad because the rest of the time we just have discussions about anything. fair grader and the papers aren't that hard just read what he tells you to read and you'll be fine
Rubrics can be odd, and you'll often ask yourself while writing a paper 'Why do i have to include all this junk?' but he is overall a good teacher. I would recommend him
Very cool guy. Class is interesting, he makes it a lot of fun. Don't write too many papers. Fun class!
very cool teacher. class is interesting and you get a chance to re-write papers if you need to.
awesome teacher. really nice. makes you feel comfortable. easy to talk to and makes u feel good about your writing even if it's not the best. i dunno if he's still teaching at sdsu. can't find his email. i want to take him again.
Awsome teacher, very interesting discussions in class. Take his class
He's one of the best english teachers I've had. He's very fair and approachable. He is pretty easy and laid back so take him.
awesome prof
Awsome teacher, very interesting. Take this class.
Not a very good teacher. Goes off on tangents about irrelevant topics and is unorganized. Class is easy only 3 papers 5 quizzes reflective essay for final. I dont recommend this teacher, very boring and doesnt know how to present his material. Stay away.
He is very easy, but if you want to learn, do not take his class.
WOW! What a great prof. He is interesting, fun and helpful. Only three papers that he covers in class very well and helps you out with any problems. The best class I have ever taken if you have the chance take him
Karl is the****. You have only 3 papers that you write and all of them have pretty lengthy deadlines. there are 6 reading quizzes that are all easy if u read. Do the work he assigns and you will get an easy B if not an A. You also are allowed 6 absences.
great teacher, very helpfull... good sense of humor. you can re-write all of your essays to improve your grade. he makes rws fun...
this is the coolest teacher. he is very helpful and makes the class fun. GREAT PROFESSOR!!! if you can, take this guy. you will love him.
this guy has more sugar than a 5lb. of imperial. overall cool.
Great teacher for RWS. Basic class with very easy essays. He makes class fun and enjoys shooting the sh*t with the students. Loves his job and isn't afraid to speak his mind- take this guy for any writing class.
Great teacher and not bad looking either. Made writing fun and is always willing to help his students.
Great and very nice guy. i recommend him for this class. he is very helpful to his students.
Super cool teacher with a down to earth personality. Students should take his class, they won't regret it.
Fun Class. Always available to help out his students. This class improved my writing.
Coolest teacher at State (execpt maybe for Kahn in TFM). Assignments are easy and helpful. Goood class and an easy B.
Karl is great! He is down to earth, he makes his class fun. I always looked forward to going to his class, he breaks up the montony of all of those traditional lecture classes. This class was easy, but I still only managed to get a B. But I really improved my writting!!!!Take this class with him!!! very interesting shirts he wears!:O)
Karl Kline made my RWS class fun. It was a pleasure to be in class everyday and everyday was a new experience.
One professor I miss.
SUPER EASY CLASS! He is a really awesome guy too. All three essays were on one book and the final was a reflective essay. Easy essay grader also. Class is boring though, because we dont DO anything. Which is pretty cool. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
The only class I looked forward to going to. He lets you rewrite your essay for a better grade. You will NOT regret taking Karl!
Very funny guy; easy going and easy to talk to; make the class fun; not a lot of assigments only meaningful ones; i actually learned a lot about different rhetorical approaches in this class:).
cool but sux that i got an A-.. c'mon and give me an A.. lol.. good class though.. take it
Made class fun to go to. He is an easy grader with little work in his class. The worst part is that he keeps track of attendance, but in the end it doesn't hurt your grade, only helps! Always helpful and willing to work with students, Karl is one rad professor.
here is the truth.. there is quite a bit of work so do not slack off... i would probably take renner instead of kline.. probably easier in terms of the work... you can fall behind in this class.. you have to show up too or else it will bite you in the ass.. change if you can
actually we were kidding.. KLINE is really cool.. work is ok and attendance is required, but overall the work is good and class if pretty fun.. do the work and you should be fine.. got an A-
OMG!! do NOT take this class.. i repeat.. do NOT take this class!! he is the worst teacher ever!! very very VERY hard grader, confusing assignments and boring lectures. Avoid this class if you can! Jendian is waaaaaaaaaaay better.
This teacher is so cool, the best I've had at state so far. Very nice and helpful. Plus, he's totally hot! Way better looking than all the other teachers I've had before. I wonder why no one has given him a chili pepper yet.
He's on ok guy. Funny and kind of ridiculous.
The coolest teacher ever!!!!! such a nice man! and so helpful :)
great teacher, really helps out and relates to college students schedules. very flexible, doesn't make class a drag to go to, since they are required courses for most.
A great professor! Really helpful and nice. Plus, he's totally hot!
Probably the most entertaining teacher I've had the opportunity to have in my entire collegiate career. Oh, yeah, and he's a damned good teacher also. Shirts.
Karl is one of the BEST professor's ever! He is so informative about writing and interesting at the same time.
I would greatly reccomend this professor for RWS 200. The class was challenging, and he can be a tough grader, but he always gives you chances to rewrite essays if you do poorly and takes the second grade. I don't really like RWS classes but this is a good teacher to have. He also helps you prepare for the WPA later on.
he is a very fun teacher. it was pretty easy. 3 essays. couple of quizes. 1 book. he is very approachable. he tried to keep all his political opinions to himself which is rare for an english teacher. one of my favorite teachers. if you are having trouble go to his office hours will gladly help you out. helped me get better grades on essays.
I thought it was a good class to take because it's stuff I will actually use after college. Everything is laid out in advance, and you get two weeks to rewrite anything you turn in.
He is a semi-hard grader. I had gotten A's in English my whole life til this class which I got a B- in. You are allowed 6 absences each semester which is pretty awesome, just make sure to participate in class. He lets you rewrite essays and prepares you very well for the WPA.
He is the worst prof. i've had in my 5yrs. of college! He is condescending, arrogant and just plain RUDE. He thinks he is a comedian and u will deff. hear him talk about how he was the kind of student all the other kids didn't like b/c he was so smart- blah, blah. He made a 6wk. class seem like an eternity in hell. Take a diff prof.!!!!
Class - moderately easy. Teacher - very likeable. Workload - A lot to do. Overall - I recommend him for this class. I personally believe that the class is designed to make more profits for SDSU. However, if you are forced to take it, he's the man to take it with.
I don’t know what the hell the person 2 spots down is talking about. He is the BEST teacher I have had in my 5 years of college! I just took his 6 week summer class and he was awesome. He's super laid back and a very nice guy who's always willing to help you. Most RWS teachers suck, so if you get Kline consider yourself lucky.
Yes he is condescending, but that's because he expects you to be able to write at a college level, but he's very fair and very understanding. He lets you re-do your paper for a better grade and then gives you the higher grade.
Karl is a great professor and a really nice and funny guy. He can be a tough grader at times but he really sticks to his rubrics. He provides you with a lot of feedback on your papers which I really appreciated! You have to read for the quizzes and go to class or else your grade will suffer.
Karl is a great professor and a really nice and funny guy. He can be a tough grader at times but he really sticks to his rubrics. He provides you with a lot of feedback on your papers which I really appreciated! You have to read for the quizzes and go to class or else your grade will suffer.
Very attractive and funny. His attendance policy killed me, but I'm assuming most professors with small classes do take attendance. 10 quizzes and 7 essays. He's a good guy and he's fair.
He is an awesome teacher that really puts his passion into teaching. Very funny, sarcastic, and knowledgeable. He is a very strict grader based on his rubric, however he provides a lot of feedback so that next time you know what he's looking when you have to write another essay. I highly recommend taking this teacher!!!
Karl is a great professor. 3 essays, 2 timed writing's and a couple of reading and sentence diagramming quiz's. The subject matter for the essays was pretty interesting. Allows re-writes if u get >70%. He's a funny and interesting guy which makes class discussions a lot more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend him.
This guy loves writing and rhetoric--he's enthusiastic and pleasant. Expects you to do exactly what he tells you (follow the rubric). Very helpful if you need assistance. Not an easy class, but interesting and what you learn will help you throughout your college years and beyond. Attendance matters. Doesn't use a text, must buy the reader.
Good Teacher, however if you didn't take RWS 100 and got in on an AP test score he will try to completely try to change the way you write. Obsessed with grammar... take advantage of rewrites if you get a C or below they really help... also the reader is only $10 but if you just look up the article names on the internet you can find all of them all
If I didn't have such an awesome English teacher in high school I think he'd be very helpful. He's very particular when he grades, and it's hard to understand what he wants out of your writing sometimes. Otherwise, he's a funny guy and approachable if you have questions. Let's you rewrite your essay if you get a C or lower. Class reader mandatory.
He was my favorite prof so far at sdsu. its hard to find a good teacher in english but he is. he knows what he like, just follow the assignment and you'll do great. ive had him two semester in a row and wouldnt have it any other way. I defenitely recommend him!
Best English Professor at state. He's not that hard, as long as you answer the prompt you should get a good grade and if get a C or lower he lets you rewrite your essay. Take him if you want to improve your writing.
Pretty cool and laid back teacher. Makes class interesting with his sense of humor. If you get a C- or lower, he lets you rewrite the paper. He's really picky when it comes to mechanical and grammatical errors though.
He's obsessed with grammar!! But he's very helpful with everything. If you elaborate with DETAILS you should do fine with your writing.
horrible teacher!!! Do NOT take if you have any other options! All my friends loved their RWS 200 classes and i thought i'd enjoy his class because everyone wrote rave reviews on this site!!! However he is rude and mean to a point beyond sarcasm, im sarcastic and can take alot but he was outright mean to some students. He is prejudiced against AP
He's one of the best teacher's I've had at state! His assignments aren't hard, you just have to remember to follow the grading rubric. You have quizzes on the readings but he tells you which ones you have to read. I enjoyed his class, it helped me improve my writing.
great teacher. he definitely has an interesting and sarcastic sense of humor but it works and makes the class interesting. I became a much better writer because of his emphasis on grammar and correct writing techniques. He is really opposed to overly complicated and vague writing so if you write straightforward and correct you do fine.
I would describe this man as extraordinarily rude, unnecessarily condescending, and rather unbearable.
Professor Kline is overall a pretty nice guy. He is somehow VERY OBSESSED with grammar and punctuation. Class is not too bad. 5 papers, 10 reading quizzes, and a few homework assignments. NEVER lets class out early. Even if hes finished talking he'll find a way to waste time. Which I found extremely annoying. Your writing will get better
Karl Kline is by far the best teacher at SDSU. He made my first semester of college so much easier. And he gives good feedback on your essays, so your writing will definitely get better. And he has a sarcastic, somewhat rude sense of humor. But he's hilarious, just dont take his jokes too personally. Id recommend his class to everyone! =]
RWS is an easy class no matter what teacher you have. You will write one short essay and 3 major essays. My writing noticeably improved while in his class. Show up to class, be punctual, and show teachers you care/are trying and i guarantee you will receive your desired grade.Start with hardwork and the good grades/good results will follow.Recommend.
Professor Kline is a really good guy. It's almost impossible to get higher than a B on essays though. 3-4 essays, 5 reading quizzes, and some diagramming quizzes. I enjoyed his class and he always made it fun.
4 essays, 5 reading quizzes, and two sentence diagramming quizzes. Class was a waste of time. Sometimes there were powerpoints only on comma use and how to diagram a sentence; I felt like I was back in middle school. Regarding the comment below me, it is possible to get an A on the essays. Overall, class was BLAH
Professor Kline is the best RWS teacher at SDSU! Great sense of humor and interesting power point presentations. The only bad thing is, he never really gives higher than a B on essays. Great class though! Take him!
By taking this class your writing will improve, but he is very picky on what he wants. If you get a C or lower he will let you rewrite an essay. One mini paper, three essays, and LOTS sentence diagramming.
He is EXTREMELY opinionated. If he doesn't agree with what you're writing about, you're getting a C or lower. He has a rude and cocky sense of humor. I recommend getting another teacher if possible.
Honestly, you either love him or hate him. Really picky about what he wants in essays and he purposely tricks you on the reading quizzes. Not to mention, sometimes the assigned reading can reach up to 10+pages. However, its not too much work and he is helpful when you need it. Really sarcastic and strange too. Didn't love him but he is bearable.
He can seem a little down on people?s abilities at times, but I think it is just his humor style. Once you realize he really wants you to succeed, you will see that he is a wealth of knowledge. You will be impressed with all that he knows and is willing to share with you. I learned a ton from his class.
I hate writing but I really enjoyed this class. He is sarcastic, indeed, but if you don't take it personally or can look past his humor he is great. Class can tend to be a bit boring but he is extremely helpful. I suggest him!
Very interesting professor. Makes writing enjoyable and it really seems like writing in previous settings. Papers are fun to do, but may take some time and planning. Take him, you won't regret it.
When taking this class you should know how he grades. "C" equals average like most of you "B" equals above average and "A" excellent. Fair warning he is extremely opinionated and you should really write what he wants...
Prof. Kline is one of the few teachers left that is actually trying to teach you to think outside of the box on your own! That being said, if you don't put any time or actual thought in what your essay is arguing don't expect more than a C. But if you are genuinely trying to take a thought and write it effectively, HE"S AWESOME.
Homework load is light. Don't expect to get an A on your papers. He lets you rewrite papers but you have to meet with him about your paper and he isn't that helpful which I did and I just got the same grade again. He was really unclear about reading assignments i always had to do a long search where they were because he never said the page numbers.
He's a great writing teacher. His philosophy is that he wants you to communicate your ideas as best as you can, so he doesn't give any page requirements or rigid source requirements for essays. There isn't too much busy work, just remember to do the weekly readings. He basically focuses on making you a better writer, and I feel like it works.
Great teacher! Really easy, no textbooks needed only have to read one book throughout the whole semester. Attendance isn't required but you have quizzes so you should go to class. You learn a lot about grammer but it's an easy A if you go to class and do well on the essays, which there are only 3.
Kline is funny, sarcastic and has a great sense of style. Attendance isn't mandatory but since he has reading quizzes you should go to take them. You have to read the book for the class and it is really eye-opening. Overall, I think he grades fairly on essays. You'll improve over time if you have personal conferences with him. Definitely recommend!
This class was really easy but Kline doesn't really teach, which forces you to really hone in and improve your writing skills. The quizzes and essays are easy. Just read the prompt carefully and make sure that you answer all the questions. There was a book assignment but you don't really have to read it if you pay attention in class.
Excellent professor he is willing to help you especially if you attend office hours.
Class is boring and there are quizzes at least once a week on readings that he assigns-these are somewhat hard. Very helpful if you go to office hours with your essay complete or almost complete. Essay topics are straightforward
Hes a cool teacher, gives an extra credit. Did a group project. Easy-ish grader.
You have quizzes over the readings about once a week and they are really easy! His essays are pretty straight forward.. nothing too difficult! One group assignment and he gives an extra credit worth 400 points at the end of the semester! Really enjoyed this class. I would recommend taking him.
The class would often find itself in an awkward silence, but Kline can break it. He will do anything to make you pass because he cares about his students. He's not a very harsh grader (picky on grammar tho). I encourage you to take him, he has better philosophies about writing than the other RWS professors. There's also random quizzes, go to class!
He takes attendance but I don't think we were graded for it. Follow the rubric. Take your draft to office hours and he will read through it and give helpful feedback. There are often quizzes on the reading. He is kind of particular about grammar (he is an English professor after all), but he did teach me how to write better. Worth the effort.
He does not provide any specific guildlines on how ur essay should be, he just expect u to know what he wants wout explaining it in class. He talks about articles that r not related to the essay. Expect all essays to be Only about technology. He's a tough grader & doesn't give much useful feedback. Pop quizzes r every wk which r hard.
Not helpful at all. Is a jaded, old man who should retire from teaching and go find something else he likes to do. Do not, I REPEAT, do not take this class.
If you don't write what he agrees with, he will give you a C or lower. So unless you think we as a generation are spoiled, screwed, and heading for damnation do not take this class.
Professor who mocks and treats his class like uneducated idiots. Grades are based on his own preference, if you do not share the same opinion as him do not expect a good grade. Not clear at communicating what he wants for both assignments and essays, even after attending office hours. Lacks the ability to respect anyones opinion but his own. RUDE!!
Karl was easily one of my favorite professors I've had so far. I absolutely hate writing, but he made me enjoy it and I actually learned a lot about my writing style and how to write better. Great teacher, would definitely recommend.
I had professor Kline for RWS 100 and 200. I took him for 200 because I enjoyed 100 that much! Because of him I became a better writer. If you don't understand something he will clarify if you ask. Office hours are very helpful for papers, but come prepared with questions. There are pop quizzes on the reading, but they aren't very hard.
Very easy professor over all. He grades relatively hard on the essays, but gives very good advice when going to his office hours. Very little reading in the class, there was one reading quiz. All three essays are easy, the third one is a little complex but not that difficult.
Kline is a great guy, but I would not recommend that you take his class if you want an easy A or B. He is a really tough grader.
He is a pretty tough grader. That being said, I barely used the office hours. I heard from other people that he was very helpful during office hours. He definitely was a good teacher who was very willing to help. I would recommend this class. Gonna try to get him again for RWS200
Kline is really nice. He can be a little awkward but he's an amazing teacher. Hes chill, nice, and willing to help. He can be funny at times too! He can seem really strict but he's really not. He doesnt have that many tests, just like 3-4 essays. He's good! Im probably taking his rws 200.
One of the more interesting professors I've had so far. Very relatable guy and funny! No textbook, just a course reader that he put together (Reading is mandatory! Ahem-pop quiz). A bit scatterbrained but it makes the class interesting. Mandatory one-on-one conferences but they're really helpful! Gave me confidence in writing again!
Kline is really helpful if you put in the effort to see him at his office hours. He really is a tough grader. He is not an easy A, but once you earn the A it is a nice feeling. He is very funny and entertaining in class as well. If you put in the time to meet up with Kline for his office hours I can promise you he will give you the best advice.
kline rocks; great class for RWS. makes class interesting and involved. Yes it is alot of writing but that is the point of the RWS class.
There isn't much reading, but you will have to write about 6 -7 essays. The class is totally worth it though, you will become a better writer the more you practice and that's exactly what Kline forces you to do. Take this class if you want to improve your writing. If you take it seriously, getting an A is definitely attainable.
Kline is the best professor I have had so far. Essays are easy if you understand the topics. He really teaches you how to write efficiently while also sub-teaching about human dependence on technology. Great class and professor.
Go to his office hours; if you take is advice and he notices that you followed his advice your grade reflects it a lot. Also a great class because he cares about quality over quantity, there are barely any length requirements on his assignments. Definitely improved my writing ability.
Great professor! I've taken Kline for all of my writing classes at state. Unfortunately I only got an 8 on the WPA but he is still an amazing teacher. Go to office hours BEFORE your essay is due at least once to ensure a higher grade. He hates cell phones out during class time so if this is a problem he is not the professor for you.
I hate English classes. That said Karl was is an awesome teacher and his lectures are fun. He turns a boring class into an enjoyable one and he will help turn you into a better writer at the same time. He is a fair grader and is awesome with giving feedback. I highly recommend taking prof Kline if you have to take 305w
Kline is one of my favorite professors. He is very chill but cares a lot about his students. He is a fair grader but office hours are a great source to get help. He is very willing to help his students and genuinely wants to see them succeed. Definitely would take him again.
Great professor for RWS 200! He really did teach me a lot and I'm super glad I took his class. My writing improved after each essay.
Only 3 major essays, and 5 small paragraphs. The small paragraphs are sometimes part of the major essays. He focuses on technology and its' effects on society. I felt my writing improved in this class.
Professor Kline is honestly so chill and funny and he actually makes it enjoyable to be in class. Just make sure to take your essays to his office hours so he can give you advice on how to make it better! (He makes you read "The Time Machine" and "Feed" so make sure you ACTUALLY read them because it's very easy to tell you didnt).
Professor Kline really taught me a lot. Classes are short and you don't usually learn much in them, but attendance is mandatory. He gives great feedback on papers and really helps you become a better writer! You should definitely see him during office hours for every essay!!! It is a lifesaver and you'll improve so much!!!
5 Paragraphs 3 Essays 2 Books (100 pages, 300 pages) Group activities in class (not graded, but EXTREMELY helpful for essay planning and organizing) Professor Kline is fun, straight forward, and an excellent teacher. As long as you give yourself enough time for the essays, put in the effort, and can write a decent paper, you'll be fine.
He seriously only teaches stuff about grammar and punctuation. My writing skills didn't really improve, they just stayed the same. All of his essays are about technology and if you didn't write in accordance to his opinion, you'd probably get a lower grade. It kinda sucked.
I always looked forward to going to this class! Kline has a great sense of humor and genuinely cares for each of his students. In addition, there are no surprises in this class; he tells you all the assignments on the first day and clearly explains what he expects from you to get an A. I would definitely take him again!
This class is entirely on the subject of technology. My writing did not improve, and he gives little to no feedback on essays and paragraphs. That being said, he is not a bad professor to have. If you are a decent writer you'll do well.
Kline was a very interesting teacher. He hates semicolons and loves the en-dash. He doesn't make you buy the textbook and is generally a decent grader. Fun class overall.
I haven't learned anything from this class. He won't excuse absences regardless the reason. He's very sarcastic, and doesn't see both sides. I have not improved as a writer at all. Would NOT take again
If you are a student with disabilities, don't take his class. I am not a good writer and his class has not helped whatsoever. At times he's very rude and will openly tell the class "all of you are horrible writers, don't expect to get a job." If you're not a good writer, don't take his class because he is a very tough grader.
If you have another option for RWS 200, take it. After being assigned so many boring 10 page articles to read and essays to write on them you're going to want to drop this class a month before the end of the semester. He teaches you how to integrate quotations, but will continually mark you down for not doing it right, even though you do it his way
Do yourself a favor and do not take this. Wow am i frustrated
One of the best English teachers I've ever had. Class isn't too hard but I've learned a lot from it.
Kline is an old fuddy duddy who likes to go off on hilarious tangents but always comes back and provides the necessary material and teaching to better your writing. He's casual, humorous, and very learned in rhetoric strategies. I would take his class again and again. This one's a keeper!
We felt that he was taking out his anger on us. He graded very hard which people from last semesters said he didn't. He had many people complain but continued to be rude and unhelpful.
Very funny guy, but the course was terrible. Doesn't have a specific grading criteria and hates the traditional 5 paragraph essay. Tested us on stuff we barely went over such as grammar and sentence structure. He never left feedback on my papers, and if he did, it was minimal. Be prepared to read ridiculously huge articles and write tons of essays.
He is a tough grader, so be ready to write, rewrite and rewrite. Many of the essays are based on articles and some of them are confusing. However, he does give good feedback during office hours and help understand what he wants out of the articles into the essay. Received As on my essays, but did terrible on his quizzes and paragraph writes.
Kline was awkward. Majority of the time it seemed as if he didn't know what he had planned that day. He gives out simple assignments but make sure you talk to him abt what you're going to write during office hours b/c it's his way or the highway. He's one of those annoying graders; sometimes you didn't know what grade you got b/c he can surprise u.
By far worst professor I have ever had in my life. Went to office hours numerous times before assignments were due, took his advice, fixed every little mistake he told me to, yet still couldn't get an A on any of his assignments. He's very unprofessional and unfair. Bashed President Trump more than teaching the subject. Avoid this guy at all costs.
I clicked well with Kline. I made it because writing and analyzing for me is not that difficult and I got A's on my papers. However, he can be abstract on the prompts. He is strict and laid back at times which is not the most reassuring. He is not super demanding but you got to put in the work to get that A or else suffer like many did in my class.
He is such a chill guy. Very sarcastic at times so it may catch you off guard. But one of the best teachers I have had. Gives you a lot of time in between assignments and isn't a hard grader. Just have to learn how he likes his papers written, laid back and to the point.
He makes a lot of good jokes. He may seem a little intimidating at first, but I promise, he isn't. Teaches you how to make really good papers if you pay attention--and gives you plenty of time to complete assignments. You don't need to show up, but if you do and your grade is borderline, if you ask he will round up.
I loved having class with Karl- he is funny, light-hearted, and a great professor. This class is super easy- only a few essays (like 4) and weekly assignments.
He is extremely rude when it comes to questions. He is not very helpful and talks down to students. Would not recommend.
Hes super chill and witty. Theres quite a lot of writing to do but its not too hard. Its a bit time consuming but overall its not that bad. Sometimes theres no class bc he doesnt have anything planned (which is a plus!!!)
Prof Kline was probably the most fair Professor I've had. He's honest straightforward and actually really funny. You probably could BS your way through with a "C" but if you want an "A" you'd have to work for it. You can tell he's extremely passionate about what he does. Prepares you for every quiz, 0 tests, just 3 essays for RWS100.
Kline was def my fave professor of all my classes. He's a witty guy who actually engages with his students and is super chill. There's 3 essays and like 5 paragraph assignments you submit and the paragraphs are what boosted my grade. You can get by without reading some of the assigned books (sparknotes it) but it helps to read at least one. 10/10
We read several books/articles then wrote essays on them. The class was not difficult it was just busy work. If you're an okay writer, this class shouldn't be too hard. I did all my essays the night they were due and they were all pretty half assed, passed the class.
Good overall professor. Class is fun, 3 essays and some quizzes based on readings. Defintley recommend. Goes over the WPA in depth!
Karl is a great guy. I thought he was super funny and definitely enjoyed going to class. Not a hard class at all, but I didn't take the opportunity to go have him edit my rough drafts (he doesn't give you feedback unless you go to office hours) but I got a B. You have to read 2 novels which are actually pretty interesting and write using rhetoric.
I thought this was going to be my toughest class when I began, I was wrong. Proff Kline is great. Super chill Easy A if you actually try. I'm not encouraging it, but I did everything last minute literally, and I got a B. Take him. If you want to learn, you'll learn he is inspirational but I wish I would've put just a little more effort to get the A
Learned more about English than I have in my past classes. Only thing is his pop quizzes can easily tank your grade because they are not comprehension quizzes but very specific. Go to his office hours for ALL essays and you will do fine. You don't have to read the books to get an A
He doesn't really teach anything, he will go on and on about the most random things and is easily distracted. Wouldn't answer questions clearly so it made everything more confusing. 3 major essays and then the final which is a mock WPA. Read 2 books which you're going to have to get unless you want to fail the quizzes and essays. I don't recommend.
Prof Kline really cares about his students. He is very witty and fun to listen to, which makes class very fun (he takes attendance). Very straightforward with what he expects of you, and I really learned a lot. Goes over WPA in depth and the texts we read were actually interesting. Highly recommend!! Loved the class.
Prof Kline is one of the best professors I had. Really good feedback on all the papers that were due and he really helped me become a better writer. Probably one of the coolest professors I'll ever take.
Kline is awesome. He has a "no phone" policy but don't let it turn you away! He does a great job preparing you for the writing assignments and gives great feedback. Everything is to the point. You're not "required" to attend, but you learn very helpful writing skills for the future (WPA). I definitely recommend going to office hours at least once!
Professor Kline was truly a good man when it came to teaching and giving effective feedback. He's also a funny guy so attend class!
Professor Kline is such a funny guy and truly gives great feedback on your major essays. One thing is, sometimes I felt like all we did was busy work. Some days we'd come to class and all he'd have us do is write on a notecard questions we have and he'll spend the remainder of the class answering them. Other than that, I really enjoyed this class!
I dread English class but Professor Kline brings his classes to life with his personality and charm. We read a lot of articles in this class and a few books, thus writing about 5 papers total. What really helped me excel in this class was going to his office hours and getting feedback on my essays. This saved my grade. And all of his extra credit!
Bro this teacher is so good. Took him for Rws 200 and WAY better than my Rws 100 teacher from the semester before. Its super easy and the teacher cool. You are assigned like 2 big books to read for an essay, but I didnt read them and still got A on the paper. Take him!!
Kline is a great professor, you'll have fun in his class. I love writing and I always found a fun challenge in his prompts and essays. He's funny and really knows his subject matter very well. Trust me, he will make you a much better writer. Downside is he posts like 100 online quizzes and there are a lot of minor group projects. He's great tho
karl kline is interesting. he has a lot of attitude when grading assignments and sending out emails. you'll only succeed in his class if you write exactly how he wants you to write. he's picky and rude. his class is kind of fun if you're doing well in it. I got A's on most of my assignments because I followed directions.
Great Professor!
