He is truly a great teacher, I have had him for ENG 104, WR 121, and WR 122. He is fun to listen to and he loves his job, there is no doubt about that. He gets so into his teaching about the deeper meaning of words and what not. I totally recommend him.

Karl is a good instructor. He is loud and slaps his ruler a lot, and his lectures are interesting. He made me a better writer and more conscious of what I'm putting down on paper. Helpful, nice, and responds to email quickly. It's not an easy A, but I would totally recommend Karl for anyone who needs to take this class.

I had never truly enjoyed writing until Karl's class. He made learning fun and relatable. Only in Karl's class will you find yourself EXCITED to write a paper. Somehow his passion rubs off on us students. He not only is very clear about the requirements for each paper, but also repeatedly gives you a ton of additional tips on how to excel.

Karl is by far THE best teacher I have EVER had! I would highly recommend anyone to take his classes! He wants you to succeed and is always willing to help you out. I wrote a very emotional paper and he was always in full support of my paper. Not only is he hilarious, but is passionate about what he does. DEFINITELY taking a class with him again.

Karl was such a character, even on the first day. Be prepared for a lot of passionate lectures, tangents, and the ever thunderous, "ALRIGHT." In addition, he carries around several rulers and paint sticks for backup... Rest in peace rulers.

I like him a lot! he is very clear with what he wants from the students, and mid-term and final are a piece of cake. try to avoid sitting in the very front as i saw him break a ruler this last term. so yes beware the rulers! he also shouts, but he still a very fun teacher.

Karl was the first professor I had when I started attending Chemeketa, and set the bar high for every prof I've had since. He is amazing when he teaches, and while he is teaching the "rules" of writing, he crafts the class in a way that doesn't feel like you're being restricted on what you can and cannot do. Fear the rulers though, seriously.

By far the best teacher i've had. Before karl I was told to never start a sentence with "because." I didn't know all the different sentence types and comma rules. Im glad I was able to learn from him. His passion for writing is inspirational. Why can't all teachers be like him? School would no longer be a pain. I actually look forward to class!(:

Karl has got to be the best WR teacher, and over-all teacher I ever had. Whether it is from him accidently cracking a ruler in half from how enthusiastic he is about the present subject or showing us hilarious mis-spelling from previous students(names kept confidential). Karl is phenomenal. The work he gives is clearly just so that he knows you understand the material. His feedback is incredible, and he was very encouraging, but also real. His lectures were clear, and engaging. His requirements and expectations were well communicated.

If every professor was like Karl then school wouldn't feel like work. I highly respect Karl for not only his natural teaching abilities but for the mutual respect he has for his students as well. If you have the ability to take a class with him, do it. He is genuinely one the best professors and people I've ever had the privilege of meeting.

FYE was a easy class and its a fun class too, he makes them fun and not boring however he is cheesy as hell so beware xD

Karl is an amazing teacher. I took him for Writing 90 and it was on end of the most easiest classes I ever had. I would definetly recommend him, especially to freshman.

The class is hard but he is always willing to help and explain things for you. What I liked the most about his class is that he cared wether or not the lectures were boring or hard to follow. He genuinely cares about his students and the group presentation was surprisingly fun.

Literally the best teacher I've ever had. Made me want to be a teacher. He cares about each student, and learns their name. He really wants each person to understand and succeed. So passionate and respectful of students. Can't say enough about how much I learned and how easy Karl is to learn from. GREAT professor!

Learned more with him in one term than in my whole writing experience collectively (high school and other Professors at CCC). Amazing. Never got bored in his class, quite a character. Karl is a amazing writing teacher, he explains things easy and clear. He usually gives you the final the week before final week, so it's less stress on you. I learned more in one of his 121 classes then all of my 115 classes. All you have to turn in is the 5ish papers. Reading too, but it's easy. A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I had never read a comic book before this class, so if you're like me, don't let that scare you. I was blown away by the depth and intellectualism of our class discussions through this course. You can tell Karl is very passionate about it all and cares very deeply about your academic success. I'd 100% recommend him and this course.

This man knows how to teach. He makes the complexity of things so simple. I find that if you show up, do the work, and participate, it lets him know you are putting in the effort and he will pass you. I learned the most out of his classes. He teaches you the basics of writing in depths. This class is almost like writing91, but gives more practice.

Karl's passion for his subjects is infectious. I've had several classes with him, and he can make anything interesting - archetypes, grammar, sentence structures, or appeals. He's exciting, unpredictable, and makes you want to take notes because what he has to say is so compelling. He values and rewards hard work, but makes you work for it.

Karl is amazing. His lectures are engaging and meaningful. Best Writting instructor ever. However, the class is not easy and you really have to put time and effort into your papers. Plan on writting multiple drafts and visiting the Writting center to polish them. You can not bs your way through this class or procrastinate on your papers.

Karl is single handedly the greatest teacher I have ever had. His lectures are interesting, and entertaining (seriously take one of his classes you'll know what I mean). He actually gets people to understand the concepts, and discuss them in class.

He grades hard, but as long as you pay attention and continue to improve, he sets up his grading so that you will get a grade that reflects your effort.

Best teacher I ever had. Great speaker, articulate and very engaging. I learned a lot and he gave great feedback. He was easily the most approachable instructor I have taken. Worthwhile material and clear grading criteria. The works! I wholeheartedly recommend anyone that wants to become a better writer to take his class.

He is not an average college teacher. I Have never in my life loved school so much until I had this teacher. Words alone will never be able to describe my appreciation for Karl. He is absolutely amazing. He always gives full examples for all of the assignments and they are SUPER helpful. I have never learned so much in such a short period of time.

Karl is very energetic and makes his lectures fun to listen to. Tho he can go off on rabbit trails often, he always explains things in detail and makes sure everyone understands what's going on.

Karl is AMAZING! he is a bit of a strict grader, but it mainly reflects on how much effort you put in. He also teaches you how to absolutely destroy someones argument, it's Great! Also, if you want to make him life, just tell him Big Chungus says hello ;)

Comic books as literature was an interesting class. I liked Mr. Meiner and I appreciated the emphasis he put on well written papers. However, Meiner showed a lot of videos during class time which annoyed me, I prefer class to be discussion or lecture. I can watch movies on my own time. Each class period is worth 2-5 points, so attendance matters.

BEST PROF IVE EVER HAD! Trust me and take this class. Easy A. He makes every lecture fun and has a very welcoming environment. Even if you are tired af you'll have energy for this class. We only had to write 5 papers, first one a breeze. Not too heavy on papers, but just enough to where you are actually learning. Good luck in there

Prof. Meiner is a gifted instructor. He is exuberant and enthusiastic about the subject he teaches. If you're willing to put in the effort, he will help you to really grow as a writer. If you want to sharpen your critical thinking skills and learn how to construct and deconstruct arguments, this is the professor for you.

I also took ENG216 and FYE105 with him. He is super nice, helpful and funny. I loved taking his classes and would have taken more if I could've. He is great at helping you understand the material. He also understands if you are uncomfortable talking with groups and with public speaking and if you speak with him he won't make you do either.

Karls lectures are engaging, funny, clear, and informative. He makes sure that you understand the material before moving on. While you do have to put in effort to get a good grade, he is very fair when he grades, and gives good feedback on homework. He made all 4 classes that I took exciting and enjoyable; hes the best teacher Ive ever had!

First time taking Professor Meiner's class. The Spring 2020 writing 122 class was done remote due to the Covid19 pandemic. I took comfort in the regular video lectures, emailing him, and video conference. Professor Karl Meiner is very helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to communicate with about your writing concerns. I recommend taking his class.

One of the best classes I have ever taken. He is not only very genuine with teaching methods but he honestly cares and is willing to help if you are struggling. Lectures are short and fun. Level of difficulty is moderate but he is willing to help you if you are willing to put the effort.

The BEST prof ever! I took 5 classes with him at Chemeketa. After moving on to University, I still cherish the time I had in his classes. He is funny, caring, and good at his job. He made class enjoyable and taught me how to write excellent papers. If you want a memorable teacher, he is your guy. Touch grader but clear on criteria and v accessible!

The term is nowhere near finished but I just wanted to show appreciation for such a cool professor. No matter what's going on, he's always so cool and funny, making it impossible to stay in a bad mood around him. He makes sure everyone feels included, he gives us all a good laugh every day, and he just makes coming to class so much fun - he's rare.

The class was fun. We only had to write two papers, and so many example essays were given it was almost overwhelming. If you don't mind Karl slamming a ruler on the desk, computer, TV, etc. every five seconds, it's a great class.

This is the most fun class I have ever taken. We get free comics. This is the most excited prof I ever had.

Professor was very animated with discussion and there was a lot of discussions but you can tell he cares for this class and enjoys teaching it. Attendance was not mandatory but gave extra points just for attending. In total roughly 3 pages every other week in regards to reading material. Very fun and light going class would recommend to others.

love Karl as a professor, got about 5 free comic books out of this class, all of the papers are analytical and he's a tough grader though (about the same as he would be for his writing courses)

I suck at writing, I'm going to get that out of the was. It didn't seem his way of grading was particularly helpful. He expects borderline perfection on drafts that we turn in and doesn't really critique our writing. He just tells us whether it's good or bad. He's super funny and I enjoy being around him, but writing isn't getting any easier for me

This is one of the best professors I've ever had. He was so caring and I learned so much. He might be a heavy grader but it brings out the true scholar that you can be. I recommend him highly for those who struggle with writing. He goes through so much detail. Don't be shy and ASK QUESTIONS!!! He loves questions.

Both WR121 and WR122 are structured relatively the same. Paper 1, an on-demand essay for the Midterm, and then a 10-page Research Essay. He provides very beneficial resources for each assignment. He grades very precisely and it is very helpful. Make sure to take note of academic terms as they come up often. He's also very loud, not in a bad way.

Karl values quality over quantity. If you struggle with word counts, but you can write well-written essays, there's a chance you'll still be able to get a B or an A. No homework. Midterm and final are timed essays, but you get a preview. Overall, Karl is a funny and nice professor who cares about helping his students become better writers.

This can be a very easy class if you stay ahead of the deadlines and do the reading to understand key terms. There are 3 essays in the term, which are graded harsely, but you are given excellent feedback to improve on during the next essay.

Very funny, and lectures are engaging. He likes to get to know students and cater to the backgrounds present within the class dynamic. He provides a lot of online resources and will gladly offer in-class support. He responds to emails quickly and is genuinely interested in helping his students succeed in his class and be prepared for the next step!

One of the most caring professors I've ever met. He's hilarious and you can tell he's really passionate about his job and genuinely wants you to succeed. He's a bit of a critical grader but gives you everything you need to pass his class and is never tired of questions. My writing skills have improved so much. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

Really chill and nice guy. The Canvas page was always up to date. Feedback on papers, however, was not so great. The suggestions he made were usually vague and overall unhelpful. Lectures were always pleasant.
