he's very smart and seems nice. his tests are hard and when he speaks in class, it seems as though he memorized the book. it made it harder to understand certain concepts. a lot of people in my class complained that they had a hard time understanding.
Just Great!
For majors in PSY, very indepth class. Attendance & participation is required daily. Raise hand, say last name, ask the question, and he marks you down. W/out it, you get a C in his class even if you get 100 on his tests, & his tests are very hard

His class is interesting, and he has some very interesting stories, but he tends to repeat himself frequently throughout the semester. His lectures do not coincide with his tests either. I think he just likes to tell stories, rather than make sure his students understand the material.
only 2 tests, no assignments to boost up poor test scores, he definitly knows his psychology but seems nearly impossible to get over a C in this class.
this prof. knows his stuff. he just needs to loosen up. perhaps integrate his lesson plan a bit to make his lectures EVEN MORE interesting. i like him and i probably would take him again if i needed too.
He's a great professor. I would take this class over anytime. :)
I thought he'd be aweful but he wasnt. learn HOW to study and you will be fine. only 3 online tests and no extra credit. for psy majors: there are easier teachers but will you learn it?
He's very interesting and knows his stuff. His lectures don't help you much with the online tests but he wants you to read the book. Great stories to help you understand and relate to the material.
Very boring tends to ramble a lot about the same things in his lectures and his notes and lectures DO NOT help on the test at all....the online test are hard and there are only 3 with no extra credit.. I would recommend someone else
Friendly, entertaining, easy to understand, easy to get along with, always helpful
This prof. was a delight to have. In the beginning he appeared to be very stiff, but by the 2nd week he lossened up a bit. If you don't like to study, don't take his class because his tests are very difficult. He's easy to understand and I had a terrific time being in his class. Take him, highly recommended.
He is a nice professor and easy to talk to and answers questions very well but his classes are of no help. He rambles on about the same thing the entire time and tells stories about his life non stop. Then his teste do not match up with his notes and there is no extra credit i would suggest another professor.
The class I took with him was pretty boring, but he is nice. He likes to share his opinions on just about everything--a lot! The class is easy though, because there are tests online via blackboard and you can get a good grade on them. go to all the classes for extra points. A is possible, you have to work for it, though, and DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS!!
The 4 hard tests that determine your final grade, make this class for the student that can study 2 or 3 hours a week. Goes off on tangents a lot.
Very hard, but informative
Mr. Oyster might ramble on and get side tracked a lot but, he just wants to give his students a generalized idea of what he is trying to tell you about, it is not that he is babbling hes' just trying to help people better understand by giving real life examples. Sometimes people remember things better when they have something to compare it with. :}

All he does is tell stories all class. Lectures do not tie in well to test. Online tests of 100 mc questions. Read the book multiple times and you'll be fine though. Gives points for attending class which can greatly pull up grade.
Prof Oyster is a very entertaining lecturer. He tell a lot of stories and even draws diagrams on the board. He is very easy to follow and lots of fun to listen to. If you study, show up to class and participate you'll do fine.
tries to get all points across through numerous stories and ramblings but overall is funny and good to listen to. Tests are tough, actually studying the textbook is a must to pass.
He is one of the best professors I've ever had. If you are really interested in psychology take him. He does demand your attention in class and is willing to meet with you for any problems your having. Every test he has chapter practice questions which you can answer, and a lot of the questions are on the test. In order to do well in his class you
He is definitelly energetic and has a passion for Abnormal Psych, as he had done clinical work in the field as a LPC. He is helpful and encourages students to ask questions in class. His test are hard if you think you can get by without studying. I reccommend him to anyone. He is willing to meet w/you outside class if you have any problems. Take h
veryyyy hard teacher. tests are crazy, and he says if you take good notes the test will be a breeze, bull. i wrote everything he said/put on the board/overhead down and still almost failed at a couple points.. reallllly hard and dont get on his badside !!
pretty hard
He's a nice guy and seems to know his stuff. There's no need to take any notes! He will tell you that "there is a direct correlation between doing the practice tests and doing well on the exam." So take the time to do the practice tests! everything that is on the exams comes from the book/practice tests, not the lecture, thats how I got my A.
I really liked him. The tests are hard, but I did ok with using the book and notes(which I added to). 10 page paper was not fun, but he is very willing to work with you on that and anything else. I would take a class from him again. Extra points for going to most or all classes too!!
i failed the first test but then i realized that if you take his practice tests you will do WAY better. after that first test i got a's and b's. the only thing is he averages grades weird.
he is awesome. he is willing to answer all questions, gives detailed notes, practice tests, and prepares the material so its easy to understand. he is an amazing teacher, and i recommned everyone take his class
really bad teacher. Always talks about his accomplishments and tells you the same stories like 500 times. tests are really hard and he gives a crazy 10 page paper. He also informs the class that he is an **** that sees a phychiatrist which is not something teachers should share with their students. good class but terrible teacher. dont take
I highly recommend him! He was a counselor for many years before teaching. He knows his stuff! His tests were very hard, but he realized this & reduced their size toward the end of the semester. Do the practice questions! They help! Almost all of the questions on the last 2 tests were taken from the practice questions!
Good Teacher. Great personality. Attendence bonus for attending class. Loved the lectures, but as far as the exam online, more challenge than Mr. Oyster's teaching style.
Absolutely the worst psychology teacher ever!!! i do not recommend this teacher even if his test are online because they are hard as crap...the highest grade in his class was a C.....that tells you alot...please drop out immediately
Many people told me he was a hard teacher and to get out of his class. But i wanted to get my own opinon. He is not a good teacher at all!! His test are in class and are very hard. Yes he gives study questions but they honestly don't help at all. There are only four grades you get in the class. I would not reccommend!
all our tests were online. no study guides. nothing.
I looked back over his prior comments and it seems in 2005-2007 he was alright. He actually had good reviews. I don't know what has happened in his life that took the previous passion for teaching. He is the absolute WORST now!!! I took the same class with Samuel Lamb and aced the course. When it comes to Pyschology. Karl Oyster should seek one!
Great teacher. because of him i have found a new liking to psychology. the class is interesting and easy to follow, he works with the text book a lot, but most of his test questions come from his lectures.
Mr. Oyster is a good person at heart but he is a horrible teacher. His notes have nothing to do with his tests and the tests are worded so wierd you just cant understand. the lectures are so boring.i do not reccommend him at all.
I took his intro to psych class and managed a B. He's anal about attendance and his tests have a lot of information from the book. The good thing is that all his tests are ONLINE, meaning you can do them at home :D
At first I thought I would hate the class, but if you do all the work available, then you can pass his class. wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
He may repeat one or two stories a lot, but he really cares about answering everyone's questions so they have a full understanding of how psych applies to everyday life. And when he talked about his back he was trying to make people understand he didn't want to cancel class, but had no choice. Would definitely recommend him.
I would encourage Professor Oyster to use more student interactivity in the learning process. It would make the students more involved and focused on the concepts being studied. Other than that I really enjoyed his class and recommend him for Psych 201!
He knows his psychology 100%, no doubt about it. BUT, his class and everything that he lectures on are useless for the tests 100% no doubt about that either. It is not a hybrid class, but really it is. everything is online except the lecture. test/pre-tests/post-tests&chpt exams.. nothing prepares you for the exams. also, 10 page paper, his topic.
he was a real great guy. his lectures werent the most interesting, but his stories were always fun to listen to. he really cares about his students and teaches well. he knows his stuff. only thing is his tests arent all that easy and EVERYTHING is online. after awhile though, you get the hang of it. i would recommend him.
he was an awesome teacher. he knows his material inside and out and makes his lectures very clear. his stories are interesting hear as well. ALL of his assignments are online, but it's not too hard if you read the material. nice guy, just doesn't deal with stupidity. he understands students better than people think.
He's an amazing teacher. He repeats his stories on occasion, but they make sense with the study material. Everything he says means something. He's not like other teachers who talk to hear themselves. You need to study to pass his tests, but all of his assignments are online so it's fairly simple still. He's amazing. Choose him!
mr oyster is overall a qood teacher . he answers questions and is very helpful ! the irritatinq thinq about hisz klass tho is the fakt that EVERYTHING is online . if yu take qood notes in klass && read over the chapters in the book [and take qood notes] then yu should be okay ..
He is a nice guy, sometimes, however he tends to talk too much about the same stories he has encountered. All his stuff is online, basically you just come to class to hear him talk, but he's fairly easy, except for the 100 questions test for 90 minutes.
Professor Oyster is overall a good teacher. He teaches straight from the book and all of the classwork is done online, which makes the textbook helpful. He makes vital information crystal clear and makes it known what information you need to know. I would recommend him if you do not have a problem showing up to class regularly and pay attention.
He knows his stuff, he repeats things which was sorta annoying but whatever, it kinda helped me remember the concepts. All the tests and other assignments are online so you can use the book. You do have to study though because they are timed. I RECCOMMEND HIM (:
You do everything online including tests ect. If you prefer to do your work in class than this is not the class for you
He is a pretty good professor all we have is tests..so we do nothing really but read and take tests and in class he keeps it pretty intresting
Excellent lectures. The rest is online. Tests are open book but timed. Pay attention to his practice questions, do the extra credit, don't miss class. If you actually want to understand the material and retain it, he's the best.
Amazing teacher, he teaches from the book and his own experience he had in the field for about 30 years. Repeats stories alot, but he is very clear on what is required. Don't take him if you aren't willing to keep up with the work. Treat him with respect and he'll treat you with respect.
I heard this teacher was hard and a pain and seriously concidered switching professors. I'm glad I didn't! He's amazing and really just the best person for this class. My grades aren't amazing in this class probably average or less but I'll pass at least and even still with how hard this class is it is so worth it.
Knows his stuff, keeps the class interesting. He makes you want to learn the stuff, he is really good. His online tests,, hard, but the quizes are easy. The mandatory 10 page paper, a pain, but I guess it comes with the field of study. Good teacher
I took his class back in 2005 and his class was super hard! I cannot believe he is still using that 100 question test online! Here's a tip: The questions are somewhat in order so just use the book and you will have no issues. I got a B in the class but it was not easy and he is super boring! I took an energy drink prior and still fell slam asleep!
ALL "A" STUDENT GOT A "D" Boring class. seriously take someone else. HAAAAAAAAAAAARDDDDDD!!!!!! tests are nothing like what you learn about in class, so studying is useless. DON'T TAKE HIM. nothing against him as a person, he is very smart, but take this with someone else. self teaching doesn't even work!
He knows his stuff, but as a teacher he is horrible. He uses powerpoints throughout class and none of those info is on the test. It is 100 questions in 1 hour. He has a great personality but, I never wanted to show up to his class. I would recommend taking a different teacher.
Excellent teacher, he knows his stuff. He is hard but fair. As long as you work hard he will work with you. He made the class very interesting. I loved his class. I have learned so much from him. I highly recommend him to any student.
His tests are hard, but if you use the study guides and take the practice tests that you get online from the course compass website it's not so bad. You have to read the chapters prior to class, attend each class, do some (or all) of the extra credit and you should do well.
It a very hard class,He use an online assigment every week and test every other week a 100 questions and 150 final, the questions are all by the book what it make harder... I wouldn't recomend him unless you only taking his class.
Gets off topic very easily making the class move a lot slower. All tests and assignments are online. All in all pretty boring teacher. He is pretty dry with his teaching style and material.
He is NO JOKE. Read the textbook, but don't expect him to walk you through it page by page. He expects you to know the stuff in it and consider his lectures and PPts to be supplemental and/or explanatory. Do not rely on the ppt notes to pass tests/quizzes! This is by no means an easy "A". He warned us at the beginning of the semester. No joke!!
He always tells stories and never covers the material.A pretty boring teacher overall.
He is not helpful, never returns graded assignments, off topic, and rude.
I was so excited to take psychology! Little did I know I shouldn't have taken it with Mr. Oyster. He is very outspoken and says what he wants which can offend people easily. His tests are beyond difficult, be ready to read the textbook and KNOW all of the content. Don't recommend.
Great teacher! Don't be shy and ask questions. He will help you if you pay attention in his class. You must study in this class make sure to focus on terms and a study buddy def. makes things easier. I recieved an A in his class
He is a nice man for the most part. Can be stern on some subjects. Gives a ton of points for extra credit with attendance. His tests are seriously hard, timed, and difficult. Overall I like his class for the most part, but would not take him again. He WILL answer any questions you have. Study the chapters before each class and be prepared.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! He is a good man at heart I'm sure but his lectures consist of repeating his life stories. He knows his stuff but the tests are hard nothing from the notes and attendance is a must otherwise you fail. I had doctors notes and he could care less. If you don't pass 1 test out of 3 you fail! Sad and disappointed.
This Professor is the worst. His grading scale is unlike any that you heard of - it is set up to make you fail. He is boring; tests are worded to confuse you and nothing that he teaches you is on the test. Also, his tests should require more time considering how confusing they are - 1 hour and 30 minutes is not enough time for 100 questions.
I managed to get an A in this class but it was very hard. I wouldn't recommend taking his class, but if you do, be sure to read and study the chapters he assigns and take the practice test.
If you want to actually pass Psychology, do not take his class. His is boring, rude, and his tests make absolutely no sense. I literally cried taking my final exam. Then, there was a computer glitch and it shut down on me. 3 months later (in summer break) he e-mails me finally to tell me to RETAKE it because it wasn't his fault. HATE this teacher.
If you are majoring in Psych than you will enjoy his class, if not don't take. Study and attend the class, you will pass easily.
HORRIBLE! All he does is ramble. Test make absolutely no sense at all.
The grading scale in this course is ridiculous. The final is almost 50% of your grade. I didn't really learn anything in the lectures. He teaches the chapters out of order so it gets confusing sometimes. All in all it wasn't a bad class, just be prepared to teach yourself the course from the book. His lectures are all just useless info.
He is a great guy and is knowledgeable about the subject. Bu his test are supper hard and confusing. He doesn't teach or go over half of the material on the tests. And he tends to ramble on and also repeat stories excessively.
Let me tell you something about Karl , he is not a teacher. He is a story teller. All he does is reflect from his life. Thats all and good if your making a movie. This is teaching though, he is in the wrong industry. He failed me for missing four days of class. I passed all of his test. I will be appealing this grade. He will not work with you.
good teacher, very knowledgeable but very helpful at the same time. learned allot but not my thing unless I have to take another one but if I do it will be with him.
You literally get 45 points extra credit if you go to every class, and he grades on a point scale (so total points, nothing is weighted or averaged). There is no reason not to like this class or this teacher.
Mr. Oyster seems like a decent guy, but he is not a decent Psychology teacher. The stuff you learn in class is straight from the book, and the tests have nothing to do with the material you just learned. They are ridiculously hard, and take you a long time to get done. If your majoring in Psych, take him. Otherwise, if your not, just skip him.
Psych major here. I enjoyed the class & passed with an A, but I would not recommend if you don't genuinely want to learn the material. He does talk a lot & it's true the tests don't match the lectures but read, study, & show up to every class & you will be just fine. Since psych is my thing, I enjoyed learning from his experience.
If you dont like to study or read dont take this is a real college course test are not easy and ppt is supplemental but he is a good teacher he is not a babysitter
Gets off topic alot
He makes the information WAY more confusing than it needs to be. He gets off topic constantly. You have to be able to teach yourself because he barely teaches. You have to straight up ask for him to give you the material because otherwise you won't get it. You MUST read the textbook. The tests are brutal. You can't miss class practically EVER.
The only teacher at TCC that I regret taking. His test are not update to the current book you use in class. His test were made back when he first became a teacher at TCC (and that's all he grades off of) I've never study so hard for any class I've had and I love Psychology but I work my butt off for my C. Would not recommend him!
Took him for psy 201. Literally show up for class and you should pass. 4 exams then a final (all online), attendance is a must and there is no homework or quizzes. He also has a great personality if you like to laugh. Also tends to get off topic.
You get extra credit for showing up to class. Didn't follow syllabus. If you're interested in psychology he might be more interesting to listen to but i don't know. His attention will easy slip away from the slides. READ THE BOOK TAKE YOUR OWN NOTES, you won't get by on lectures unless you google all the test answers. No cell. Don't sleep.
He seems to be someone I'd enjoy talking about psychology with but not one I enjoyed learning from. Lectures were based on slides which, despite teacher's assurances, did not adequately prepare me for tests. He was also rather disorganized, often repeating material or saying one thing and meaning another. Was generous with attendance bonus points.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!! He uses an outdated textbook for his tests, and his lectures will NOT prepare you for the test. I studied, I read, I took my notes, and even googled answers, and yet my final grade is still a D. For your sanity and GPA do not take his class.
I didnt feel prepared for the tests from just the lectures alone. I felt like there were some left over knowledge that i wasn't getting from class alone, when it came time for the test i felt a bit ambushed.
While I would recommend this professor to anyone who is interested in psychology there were a few things that he could improve on. He often forgot which classes he taught certain material during the course and would often reteach us the same material over and over. Other than that he is extremely knowledgeable concerning psychology and grades cool
didnt learn a single thing
He reads off of a power point the whole time. He doesn't really teach you anything. All the exams are on blackboard, so you're able to google all the answers. I did that and still received a D in his class. The tests are hard, nothing matches the criteria he taught us, nor does it match the book. We NEVER used the book in class.
This professor is very nice but there are four exams which are difficult. I would not take this class
All lecture is off PowerPoints. Book you use, but when doing tests they don't match what's in the book nor Power Point. Not very fun, and doesn't make a lot of sense. Had a D the whole semester with no absences. Just saying.
Great professor. Classes are fun and engaging. He tells a lot of stories to relate to his lectures that make you want to listen and understand the material rather than reading the book and take notes. He is very harsh on attendances, miss more than 3 classes and he will drop you from his class. Also no cell phone or youre out. But great professor.
I really liked him. He made me want to switch to a psychology degree!!
Karl Oyster. Solid psy201 prof. Understands, cares, and has genuine interest in teaching psychology. He was adamant about a reading/studying method called sq4r that I applied and it did help. He does go on tangents and ramble often which was annoying sometimes. I studied a good amount weekly and scored an A. Exams are online which means open notes
Took psych101 and abnormal psych215, got A's in both. He tells you first day he teaches as if this is an upper level college course. He doesn't baby you. You have to work for your grade. He does ramble but the stories go with the class . Those giving him a poor rating and got a bad grade didn't do the work, sorry just saying. do the work, get an A
You must work hard in this class however working hard isnt necessarily going to guarantee you a good grade. He is hard to follow and his test do not always relate to the lectures in the text book.
