Snyder was a good teacher however really makes you work for a good grade. I've never taken tests like his before and I suffered for not studying. Do the reviews when he gives them. Parent advisory be warned: I have never had a teacher swear in class as much as this professor. Attendance isn't mandatory but you do get a participation grade.
Mr. Snyder is a hard grader. I love History but he made it tough. There are two papers based on books you have to read and two tests. Snyder goes extremely fast through lecture and I felt I didn't learn much about important topics but instead things he was interested in. Snyder a funny guy but he swears frequently (F bomb) which I found offensive.
Good professor, interesting class. If you skip a lot, you fail. Took notes every day, sometimes watched a film or video related to the topic. Has two major tests, both impossible unless you study his review guide for weeks in advance. Must read textbook. Assigns two papers based on books, very little time to write. Would not recommend.
I loved Prof. Snyder! He was very helpful and a nice guy. However, he tends to talk more about what he was interested in during the lectures. What he states about what is going to be on the tests is true, but for some reason no matter how much effort you put into an answer, and how spot-on it may seem, it isn't good enough. :( Great guy though.
Mr. Snyder is an awesome person and he's super interested in the topic which makes his class better, but you will do literally NOTHING but sit there and listen to him talk every single day for the entirety of the semester. It also takes him longer than necessary to return tests and essays.
Professor Snider really knows what he is talking about but the only thing you do is sit there and listen to him talk. The grade is made up of two papers and two tests. If you don't say exactly what he wants on the papers then he marks you down. There really isn't much room for interpretation. And make sure to start studying for the tests early
You have to read a lot.
You have to do tons of reading outside class. In class, all you do is listen to him talk, which can be boring for some. He really knows what he is talking about, which, in my opinion, is why he grades so tough. Overall, it wasn't too fun, but I survived the class with an acceptable grade.
Mr Snyder is the best professor ever, he is very funny and all the students in the class loved him. You have to get ready to take a lot of notes, prepare to write for the entire class. He moves on to the next slide real fast so you'll have to write fast. The exams were based on the reviews he gave you, study them thoroughly and you will sore A.
He's a good professor, and I learned a ton from him. He talks almost everyday, and on the days he's not lecturing, he's playing a video. From my experience, the videos were extremely dull, and his lectures were a lot better. His grading, however, is very specific, but he doesn't really go over what he REALLY wants. Otherwise, a decent professor.
Really cool teacher. He's funny and actually knows what he's talking about. Just get ready to take a lot of notes; make sure you review them too. Only two essays and two tests. Come to class and do those papers and get an OK grade on your tests then you're good for!
Really enjoyed taking this class.
Professor Snyder was amazing and passionate about what he was teaching. He was so insightful and knowledgeable. There were only 4 assignments during my time in his class (2 book reports, midterm, and final) so be sure to not skip class, and do ALL of your readings.. If you fail one of those assignments you will be hurting. No extra credit.
This was a really interesting class. Snyder makes the class really interesting and he really loves history. There are two papers on books read outside of class, a midterm, and a final. He provides a lot of study guides for the tests, but it is hard to gauge what he wants in the essays. Do the readings, study and you should be fine.
Best professor you could ever have. There are two essays and two tests, and he's really nice about working with you if you have any problems.
Professor Snyder is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very passionate about history and clearly loves his work. You have to read the whole textbook because he doesn't have time to cover everything in class. Make sure you read all of the second book and most of the first one. If you skip, you'll miss a lot. Excellent teacher!
Great prof! His class is lecture heavy but if you read the textbook you'll be fine. There are only two papers on two books but he gives you clear instructions and outlines for each. There is a midterm and final but they are easy if you study. Overall great class and a cool guy.
Prof Snyder is one of the best I've had. The material he teaches is interesting, he grades fair, and he always makes hilarious political jokes. The class isn't overly hard as long as you read all the assigned material. Study guides he posts before the midterm and final are extremely helpful, if you know everything on it you are likely to ace tests.
This class was definitely difficult because I had to really read the textbooks and it would be really hard to ever miss class because he doesn't post his powerpoints online. There are only 2 tests and 2 essays so make sure to really do your best on all of them. Attendance is also a grade so show up as much as possible.
He is a professor who will really give you knowledge. Don't take his class if you are lazy. Take it only if you want to get a lot of new INTERESTING information. He DOES care about his students and classes are pretty funny. Just do all of the assignments. There are two books with 2 essays and 2 exams. Would take it again!
I wasn't really into history until I took his class. I really appreciated how passionate he is about the subject, he has lots of stories that connect to lectures, and he doesn't care if you have a few absences because he cancels class a few times a quarter. Grade is based on two tests, two papers, and minimal participation.
I loved taking this class. History has never been my favorite subject, but Snyder made me enjoy it a lot! You can see his passion for the subject in his lectures, and it made me feel invested as well. You need to study a bit to do well, but it's not horrible. I am planning on taking his 137 class as well.
Karl has a true passion for History and you can totally tell just based on the way he teaches. His lectures are great, and have ALL the information needed on tests in them. There are only 2 tests and 2 book reviews that you have to do. Attendance is also part of your grade though. He will tell you exactly what you did wrong, and how to fix it.
Beware if you're conservative/right wing. I was being mentally bashed by him daily. But aside from his long tangents about how he hates the president, I loved his lectures. One of the other problems was that he contradicts himself A LOT. If you take his class, you'll see what I mean. Its kind of annoying when concerning grading guidelines.
Great teacher. Makes the lectures fun and jokes around. Some jokes might be a little offensive to some individuals
The material covered in class was good, and the lectures were interesting, but he frequently pushed his own political agenda and was not impartial which was rather annoying. Grading policy was fair, and was heavily based on the knowledge of the student from reading the textbook and lecture notes.
If you want a prof who teaches with humor then this is a good one.
He is very nice and understanding, tests are easy if you study the material. no homework at all and can get away without reading the content.
He's probably one of the best history teachers I've ever taken. I'm taking him for 136 and I've registered for his 137 class. He has great lectures and funny jokes. There's weekly quizzes on the reading material, but it really easy, there's a mid term and a final. The tests are really easy as long as you pay attention and participate.
I am in his hist137 class and its not that bad. His lectures are clear and very helpful if you are in class. He makes the class easy-going by throwing in jokes about the topic of discussion. The weekly quizzes arent difficult as long as you have been doing your readings. Overall his class is easy if you put in the work.
Snyder is an ok professor, in class all you have to do is to listen to him giving lecture (he takes attendance tho, so come to class), there is A LOT of reading assigned each week, but you don't really need to read it all :), the quizzes're pretty easy when using google, there's only one paper and two exams but it took him forever to grade them
Professor Snyder makes history interesting, for the first time i actually understand american history and feel like im well educated on it. However his final and midterm was tough, its do able and i got 90% but i studied a lot. you get docked points if you miss class so keep that in mind. hes super liberal, but he didnt make it over the top.
Mr. Snyder is hands down the best history professor PERIODTTTT. He made history very interesting and understandable through jokes and just overall personality. You are assigned readings in his class along with quizzes every week. he goes over the reading in class as lectures ( PowerPoint). Participation and Coming to class everyday is a graded.
Prof. Snyder is amazing, he is extremely enthusiastic about history ! While it takes work, it is an interesting class. You have about 1-2 chapters to read each with a online quiz. He takes attendance which counts for 10% of your grade. There is one paper, a midterm, and a final. Overall pretty easy class if you work hard and study.
He definitely expects a lot. Attendance and participation is mandatory. His final and midterm arent at all difficult as long as you thoroughly review the study guide he sends you. His lectures do get boring because that's pretty all he does, every day, for the entire quarter.
Amazing teacher. Class is lecture heavy but he makes it so entertaining. There is a textbook but you could get away with not reading as long as you're in class. Grading is a paper, midterm, and final. Midterm and final are a little difficult but he explains what he wants and how to do it so if you study what he says you're sure to pass .
Karl is an interesting guy... little bit sassy, has an iconic beret and there is never a dull day in class. If you're tired of boring usual history classes, take him. 2 midterms, & you will have to study. He gives essay questions to review and 2 will be on the test for you to choose. Look over everything on study guide (long tho) & you will B fine
Professor Snyder is definitely in my top three favorite teachers at Green River. You can tell that he is VERY passionate about history and knows a lot about the subject. He makes a lot of jokes and connects what you learn in class to current events. One thing I will say is that if you are easily offended by swearing, don't take his class.
He is really funny and understanding the quizzes are basically everything he covers in class you dont have to do too much textbook reading, participation does matter.
No presentations/ big assignments, all you have to do is listen to him giving lectures and going over his slides, and in return you take notes if you chose to. Online quizzes were easy, you are able to get 100% on the quizzes by using google. I got an F on one exam and a D on other, and an 85% on the essay, I passed (2.5). Good teacher, swears alot
Gives great lectures, but goes fast. Its a lot of note taking, so have someone you know in it to help in case you miss something. He swears a lot, and can be pretty harsh with his language, so don't take him if that makes you uncomfortable. MUST study for exams!! Attendance is 10% of your grade, so don't miss class. He also takes forever to grade.
Professor Snyder is a lot of things, but I good teacher is not one of them. Not only were his sources not credible but his lectures included things that make students uncomfortable. Most of his claims were false and his lectures were more like rants. Professor Snyder is also rarely available outside of class and neglected to answer any emails.
Personally, my favorite history professor I have taken. He makes history class fun by connecting topics to what is happening now. Swears a lot but that is what makes his class fun in my opinion. One paper, two exams only. He only assigns readings and one book to read. Overall, take his class if you want to laugh about history. (Don't email him)
Great professor, just listen to him lecture and take notes on additional information. Participate and ask questions. I enjoyed this class because Synder made a lot of jokes and made good connections throughout to relate history topics.
I hate history, but Snyder made this class enjoyable for me! His lectures were captivating, class never felt long, & he let us out early often. You can tell that he is passionate about what he teaches. The quizzes got easier & less frequent. The downsides are that he takes forever to grade, & swears like a sailor. Otherwise, a great professor!
Professor Snyder's lectures are good and the way he explains US history stands out. He gives out online weekly quizzes based on the textbook readings. His expectations on grading is a different story. He doesn't use a rubric nor does he tell his students his grading expectations for his essay, midterm, and final. Expect random point deduction.
Come to class and participate. I never read the book even though youre supposed to read the assigned chapters each week. Weekly quizzes. 1 paper and 2 exams. Some of his lectures are fun but at the end it just got boring. Its hard to get a 4.0 because you gotta grind in this class. But overall hes a nice and funny professor.
VERY hard grader. Never read the textbook, but its good to have to reference during the weekly quizzes (very easy). Grade is carried by the midterm, final and a paper on a book. No rubric given for paper.
Took his class fall 2020. Posted lectures every week, it is important to watch some of them so you don't miss the quizzes. Fairly easy mid-term and final. Easy going class.
Honestly one of the best profs I ever had. Lectures are hilarious, and he's super passionate about history. Midterm and final are big, along with the paper. Quizzes every week but they're super easy if you just do your work - same with the paper and big tests. Super cool guy, definitely recommend taking his class.
I usually wouldnt do this kind of thing, but Professor Snyder is outrageous, and I dont mean that in a good way. Hes incredibly strict about due dates, but doesnt honor that he should hold himself to the same accountability as he does his students. Takes over a month to grade, vague when answering questions in emails, and lacks professionalism.
This professor gives the most vague feedback with only a few words of feedback after he grades papers. He had taken until the end of the quarter to finish grading assignments from the beginning of the quarter with only one sentence feedback. Grade is heavily decided by Mid-term and Final and Response paper.
He is funny and genuinely seems like a nice guy. However he grades NOTHING until the last week of the quarter. He also takes off points on your paper and won't say why. Its a standard class, weekly readings, quizzes, lectures plus a paper and a midterm & final. He completely switched up the final the day before with no warning. Poor communication.
Professor Snyder is a great lecturer. I enjoyed watching the online lectures, and he was really engaging. However, he didn't grade our midterm or our big paper until the last week of the quarter, which was stressful because you didn't really know how you stood in the class. If you were doing poorly you wouldn't have been able to fix it.
2-4 lectures per week ranging from 30-70 minutes long. At the end of the week has quiz based on the lecture/textbook readings. Lectures cover mainly everything, download an online textbook. Has 1 essay about a book, reading the entire book is unnecessary, just read first half. Tests are graded a little harsh with short answer and an essay response.
His quizzes for this class were super easy. Usually, ten questions and answers were in the lecture. His papers are what gave him a low rating. He graded all my papers at the end of the year. I had no chance to improve from my mistakes, some of which were done through all the essays because I didn't know that's what he wanted. He also doesn't respnd
I took his history class last year and it was great. A lot of lectures and a lot of reading, but his lectures are fun. He's passionate about what he teaches and presents information in a "no BS" kind of way. As long as you do the reading and watch the lectures you should be completely fine.
He gives lectures in a no-BS type of way, which I really like. (He does read slurs out loud though so heads up about that.) Most of the quizzes this quarter were only two questions each and about the syllabus, so those should be easy. Taking notes on the reading is probably a waste of time unless you have a hard time remembering things.
There werent many assignments although there were weekly quizzes on the textbook chapters so there was a lot of reading, as well as a separate required reading. There were also a lot of recorded lectures to watch. Because there werent many assignments, each one makes a big difference in your grade so dont miss any. Stay organized and you'll be fine
Fairly easy class with one book report, mid-term and final papers, and weekly quizzes based on the textbook. His video lectures are pretty intriguing and can range from 30 to 60 minutes long. He also grades his papers last minute and gives minimal feedback which is annoying when you want to know what you did wrong.
Great lectures, VERY easy weekly quizzes. No BS-style lectures which were great and very interesting. Quizzes are easy filler points. Heavy emphasis on midterm and final. He makes it very clear what he expects out of both, don't deviate from that. A little extra credit available . Read the textbook, take notes if you have to. put lecture on 1.75x
In total there are about 4 papers you write over the course of the quarter (your entire grade) There is a book you must read (or skim) to complete the midterm. This being said, his grading criteria is completely unclear. He doesnt give back adequate feedback when grading and seemingly just picks grades at random. Quizzes are easy.
Class was fairly easy when doing quizzes, but had 30-60 Min lectures a day and very late with grading, also lots of reading.
Weekly quizzes are surprisingly very easy if you do the work, lectures 30-60 mins, must read textbook and a book(!!!) since he assigns for a paper for it. His lectures are very straightforward but only covers a portion of what you're going to learn. If you want to buy his textbook and book for the class, hit me up @k_vpham on Instagram.
I was experiencing some health problems while taking his class and asked for additional time to finish my assignment. Even though I have a Letter of Accommodation, he denied my request for additional time. He expects studently to promptly complete their assignments, yet took over 8 weeks to grade my essay. Did not grade anything til the last day.
Unless you want to wait for the end of the quarter to get your grade, don't take this professor. Lectures are long and aren't even thorough, and he rambles about off topic things often. Takes forever to grade anything and is super picky with his grading and criteria. The weekly quizzes are easy enough but the final and midterm are papers.
You had a weekly quiz and response that were both pretty easy. He also gave out recorded lectures, which you could just watch instead of reading the book. However, he gave us three papers and very little time to do each, as well as no rubric. For some reason he graded all the papers during the last week, which made it very stressful.
I highly recommend this professor to anyone whom loves assignments being graded late and wants to learn something you will forget in two months, the lectures usually being 30-60 min long would usually consist of 20 min of opinion and the answering being on 1 sentence, on top of that Snyder felt like a robot, so if you want this class be my guest.
Quizzes were oddly easy. Lectures were 30-90 minutes longed but a good junk was him giving his opinion as he would say "let me get off my soap box." A dogmatic liberal. No rubrics for papers. Graded papers the last week of class. 2 books needed. The small book is interesting for lack of better words. Gave little feedback. Rarely responded to emails
Extremely easy, make sure to use online textbook to lookup keywords when studying. Makes this class a breeze. Lectures were actually fairly interesting to watch and I enjoyed this class overall.
I've heard most history profs at GRC suck, so I was hesitant to take this class, but it ended up being so easy. weekly quizzes that are timed I got 100% on all, they were super easy. We had three essay-style writings, only complaint is that they weren't graded until the last days of the quarter which was stressful. But overall, so easy to get 4.0
This course often consisted of some recorded lectures, as well as additional materials to watch and read. The weekly discussions, quizzes, and exams were fairly easy and based on the textbook. The writing assignments were graded towards the end of the quarter and were graded somewhat harshly. Despite this, he quickly responds to questions!
Midterm: 2 papers, not hard but get started right away! Weekly quiz (multiple choice, extremely easy if u read the book) & 1 paragraph discussion (just share your opinion/thoughts). Lectures were kinda funny; he's passionate, has a cool educational background (Native American studies?), explains concepts easily. Final: multiple choice, not hard
Really fun and cool professor, i don't really think it's a hard class, you just need to go through the material a little bit careful, his lecture is not boring at all and he makes jokes a lot
He told the class to buy a textbook, no need to do that just look it up online and you won't need to pay for anything. When you watch his lecture, try to take a screenshot of the lecture and paste it into google docs or word and then put a summary using your own words. Ya'll need to do this, this would help ya'll a lot for the finals/midterm.
You must complete work on your days off because this lecturer assigns two assignments a week, but they are due on the weekend. You must read every night as well. dull!
I'm sure he's a good professor for some, but not me. The textbook was really hard to read and all over the place, very out dated and unorganized. We would read 80 pages a week and the quiz would have a question the textbook talked about only for a few sentences. You do a writing assignment every week and a book report as a final. Lots of lectures.
I honestly don't think I've had a better professor. lectures are content heavy, but most you go over in class will most likely show up on some sort of exam or response. Only one reading is required, and it is a book that will change your worldview indefinitely. the questions he poses challenge and expand your thinking. Just take Mr. Snyder.
Attendance is 100% needed since his mid term you need to "cite" evidence by talking about what you learned in class NOT TEXTBOOK. You are also needed to read around 80 pages a week. Not to mention the run on about talks on present events and always going past time for end of class. This class is very "fail on test its over" type of class don't take
This class is difficult to complete, with usually a quiz, discussion post, and small response paper due every week. And on top of that, there is assigned 2 chapters of the history textbook that you have to read and a novel that he assigns you to read all in one week. Lectures are quick and hard to follow, and tests are complicated.
This professor was good however every question is worth a lot of points so it can drop your grade. You also only get 1 chance on the quiz's no matter what. Lastly If you always have weekends plans I would not take this professor just because he posts 1 assignment and 1 quiz on every Friday and it's due that Monday. You also have to write 2 essays.
Lectures are extremely quick and do not cover all material, assignments are easy to complete but if you miss one it heavily brings down your grade. Strict no late policy, not even a minute is allowed. Tests are extremely hard for the short lectures provided.
Attention international students!!! If you don't want to memorize hundreds of events of what why where for another midterm please don't take this class, especially offline, and the midterm has to be written ESSAY offline, which is very, very unkind to non-native speakers. Of course if you want to work on your English, forget I said it
Don't sign up for this course unless you want to memorize hundreds of events and essays in the middle of the term.
The speech was too fast and contained a lot of information. Without spending a considerable amount of time self-studying outside of class, it's impossible to get a 4.0.
The weekly quizzes and responses are easy and worth most of your grade. The in person lectures are terrible, he focuses on a singular topic for the entire class which most of the time isn't even something important. He also goes on rants and screams about his political opinions. Genuinely no point of going to lectures except for mid terms and final
I have mixed feelings about his online class. If you can read a lot of a boring textbook, and watch hours of lectures, then he's not bad. His grading for the mid-terms and finals is extremely picky. You have to take a weekly quiz and write a little. If you just need the credit it's not too hard of a class.
Easy weekly quizzes and responses. This instructor takes forever to grade anything. Swears a good amount. Very strict late policy.
A very tolerant class, there are a lot of extra credits to add points, you only need to repeat carefully (even don't have to listen to the class) to get a 4.0.I am an international student. I had no knowledge of American history before, although I did not do well on the midterm test, but I finally got a 4.0.
Lot's of writing. I only ever opened the textbook for quizzes, the class is very interesting and the professor is very kind.
Professor Snyder was great, the class was not too challenging and you can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. He tries to be engaging for students and involves people in his lectures. He is also really funny and connects past events to current events to help you understand what was/is going on.
He was very passionate about what he talks about and you will learn if you listen to his lectures. If you like history you will like him.
I would 100% recommend Prof Snyder because overall the course is writing a response paper, quizzes, midterm, and final. All based on a point scale. His lectures are very engaging. Not as harsh of a grader as long as you follow the criteria he has listed and turn in assignments on time.10/10.
I only opened the textbook for finals and weekly quizzes, only watched the lectures for the midterm, (wrote a paragraph for each term on 4 different terms, and wrote a 4-paragraph essay in about an hour). I found his class to be really helpful and easy. You do need to read a separate book that isn't the textbook and write an essay about it.
Prof. Snyder is very humorous, well-spoken, enthusiastic, and likes to discuss contemporary events. Lenient grader - weekly responses and quizzes. If you keep up with the lectures and readings, you'll be fine. Start reading "Manliness and Civilization" early. This class is great for future historians, but is fun and relaxing nevertheless.
This professor was okay, lectures felt pretty engaging. He wasn't super direct about dates and often spoke about irrelevant topics, but I feel that I still learned quite a bit. I did this class hybrid so important to stay on track. I also got a few poor grades despite studying. This was a surprise for me.
I genuinely really enjoyed Professor Snyder's lectures and he had a lot of takes I agreed with. He made class fun, laid back, and not a struggle to sit through. His canvas page is really helpful, he has lectures posted, make sure to optimize the use of them. Don't slack on reading manliness & civilization.
He shares his political beliefs way too often. He teaches things that only apply to his political beliefs and it offends some students. I would not take again after being yelled at that I had “no clue what I was talking about” when bringing up how he teaches his class with his own political beliefs.
