LOTS OF MATH on the exams! Assigned some homework prior to the exams which help your grade (mostly from her powerpoints).

Im taking this class and it her first year teaching. Her power points are vague but they go off the book so if you reas the book youll pass. Her test are super easy, id study the day before from a study guide sent and get no less than a 90%. Vocabs are due before eqch test and they help alot. 25% of grade is Vocab and iclickers.

i disagree with most of the students, she might not be the best one but she is not the worst. as any other class you will have to learn concepts, and review previous knowledge. and she is very flexible when you ask for a favor.

her classes are average, you will need the clicker for points so attendance its mandatory. she is not bad, she just use math formulas that no one else has taught at school.

iClicker, Vocab, 4 exams and a final. the iClickers at the end if you're over 120 points she gives you 100% on them. I missed 7 classes and have done just fine. She talks fast so record the lectures and listen to them at home. read the book and make an outline based on the powerpoints and you'll get an A she curves every test. shes not that bad

honestly I am not very good with biology but she helped me a lot with the clicker points and the vocabulary, that pushed me to an A. she might not be the greatest but she is really good professor. she is very nice to everyone. make sure to do your clicker and your vocab

She is a great person. Lectures are very interesting. LOTS of extra credit and very caring

She is the nicest professor I've had at FIU. You can tell her passion for Ecology. Her lectures are very interesting and you should listen to everything she explains and not only study the ppt. She praises if you show improvement is the class and make an effort.

She is a great professor. The whole entire semester people were complaining about her because they thought for her being a new prof. she was going to give an easy A. Study her class like any other, she curves exams by making the hardest questions extra credit, and you will have to read the textbook because she can't just put all the info on a ppt.

This is my first time doing one of these and I am only doing it because people complained about her the whole semester. She is an amazing professor, she can improve on things but her class is loaded with extra credit opportunity. The people that complained didn't even showed up to class and expected to get good grades. 10/10 would take her again.

Unlike a lot of the students that complained about her in my class, I feel like she was a very fair professor and she made passing the class pretty easy at the end with the clickers, vocab, and dropping our lowest test grade. I studied her powerpoints, took notes in class, and reviewed them thoroughly before the exams and did pretty good.

Took for ecology and genetics, classes were a bit of a handful but the amount of clicker and extra credit points allows you to easily get an A or B. If you have a moderate enough interest in biology to actually watch YouTube animations of what's going on in class, you'll pass. Can't believe theres so many people here complaining

Grew to love Dr. Rivera throughout the semester and she was super super compassionate when it came to making things easier for us during the pandemic. Something to note though is that, from while class was still meeting in person, her lecture speed is pretty fast and her clickers are often designed to catch students off guard.

This professor gives exams literally based off powerpoints, group assignments and clickers. Basically if you go to class you're set, now during the pandemic if a student was already doing terrible from the beginning and later made the remote transition there was some to get done and she gave us so many opportunities to do better.

At first I was a bit worried but if you study her power points you will be fine!

She gives so many chances to do better and shes very understanding , if you can't do anything right at least go to class & get ur clicker points. I did terrible in the beginning but I at least showed up to class everyday rain or shine. Most of the people complaining I bet are the same people that would walk out in the middle of lectures.

Exams are difficult & often seem like it doesnt have much to do with lecture, I had a hard time passing all 4 exams + final. As long as you show up, participate, and do clickers questions you should pass. She really knows her material just has a hard time teaching it.

People complain even when they get a passing grade, unbelievable. She did take forever to grade stuff but can you blame any professor that had to do so? Just because we were all home doesn't mean it was any less easy for our Profs, I'm sure she had stuff going on besides grading. Don't complain, take your A and move on.

She is honestly one of the sweetest professors I've ever had and is beyond understanding of anything you might have going on in life. Now, her exams are a literal nightmare. It's not going to be a walk in the park but she won't let you fail if you try. I hope to take her again in the future cause she's a great lecturer.

I took here for Bio 2 and liked her teaching style back then than now because she was a bit disorganized with this thing of making group quizzes and a readiness quiz before each class. But overall, great teacher, just follow the book that she assigned to better understand the lectures, pay attention in class, takes notes and you should get an A.

Great professor. I did well in this class by reading the chapters (which were very easy to read compared to other textbooks), and reviewing the clickers and class assignments. Questions on exam were very similar to those. Professor is always willing to help you understand what you might not. Very accessible and knowledgeable!

Took her online for Summer C. Not a lot of content, just keep up with the lectures and don't let the videos play in the background and not pay attention. She gives a lot of extra credit assignments and replaces your lowest with the final if you did all your assignments. You don't need the textbook, her videos are enough.

She is kind and understanding. Has a very organized class structure. Gives enough work to learn the material but doesnt overwork you. She offers extra credit opportunities. Her lectures prepare you well for her tests. She is available to ask her questions and go over tests.

Shes good! You dont really need to attend class unless it is for group assignments. You can do the clicker assignments later.

the best professor I've ever had. I took her for bio 2 & genetics. she is so sweet & understanding and gives you everything that you need to do well in her class. tests are the same as the lectures and clickers questions. she also gives so much extra credit work that its impossible not to do well in her class. would take her again in a heartbeat.

Nice professor. You see she likes what she does. Gives plenty room for extra credit. 3 tests and final is optional. Her modules are organized by reading quizzes, playposit videos, Discussions for you to ask a question related to the content covered that you did not understand, and very interesting article discussions

The way her class is structured is amazing. I was stressed 90% of the time but once I Realized that the playposit, quizes, and pre-quizes are worth more than the tests I was relieved. She gives you extra credit for her tests.

Once-weekly 1 hour playposits. Make it through that and understands whats in them and youve got an A. The class is set up so that anyone who has a hard time with the material can come up and ask classmates, group mates, or the prof for help. Id recommend taking this class if you need to do genetics

For genetics rn: you are split into groups of 6, if u get a good group its not a bad class. Playposits are the lectures and they feel so long, takes me about 2 hours to get through them while writing notes. A lot of extra credit and the exams are ok. Genetics is a lot like bio so a lot of memorization. have a 112% rn in class. Lots of busywork!

Be ready to spend some free time on lectures online

Everything you'll ever need for the tests is in the playposits she assigns weekly and the in-class assignments. There's a lot of homework to keep track of but she's a fair grader and her late policy is very lenient. She gives a lot of extra credit so if you get anything less than a B that's on you. She's also extremely sweet and very accessible!

Grading is out of 115%, meaning you can end up with over 100% and she also gives extra credit on the exams. Easy A, and the exams resemble the weekly Application assignments. Definitely would take again.

Dr. Rivera is a gem! GO to office hours, she WILL help you, and is SO NICE! No gimmicks or tricks, everything comes straight from the playposit lectures so TAKE GOOD NOTES. She makes the class super applied so you learn about the COVID vaccine, genetics of race, and biotech which was very int. Lots of extra credit and group work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

She's really a fantastic professor! Her hybrid genetics class meet once a week and has most of the work done online. Her playposit lectures are really good and useful for the test. She gives so much extra credit that I ended with more than 100. No idea why people complain, she helps out your grade so much that you dont need to worry about tests.

Prof Caceres is kind, caring, and super understanding. Since I was in the hybrid class there wasn't much interaction with her personally but her class is still great! You learn the most by her playposits and activities during class (group work).

Dr Rivera is a very kind professor, i took her for Bio 2 and Genetics and would take her again and again if possible.. Lots of EC opportunities.. easy to get a very good grade if you are involved in the class! Do not hesitate.. Take her!

Definitely take this professor. The way to succeed is by paying attention during lectures/playposits. Built in many ways to get EC which is great if you don't do amazing on the exams. Easily accessible. Definitely possible to make an A, u will need to work seeing as its a bio course as expected.

AMAZING! She offers lots of extra credit and a curve if needed, and final is optional. Participation is 100% the most important thing since group work is already half the homework. I took it on zoom so I'm not sure how her in person classes are, but she is a great prof all around.

She does give a lot of course work and her exams are extremely difficult but she is there to help you overall and if you do all her assignments it definitely helps your grade tremendously. She is very sweet and caring.

Professor Caceres explains topics well in her lectures and gives you all the study material you need to pass exams. This class took up a lot of my schedule, because I also had the bio lab, cfas, and TLC. The estra credit courses do help your grade, so I advise you take them. If you watch her playposits and pay attention to lectures, youll pass.

Her tests are difficult and the course is homework heavy but she gives so many extra credit opportunities that even if you fail them you will still get an A. Highly recommend taking any of her classes.

I took her in the Fall of 2020 and she decided to create all of her lectures into playposit videos. There was extra credit for every assignment possible and the application assignments made it possible to get over 100% in the class. The application assignments help a lot for the exam, please take her for genetics! Awesome class.

Great professor for Bio majors, you'll actually learn. Hybrid class so lectures, vocab, +quizzes are done on your own time. Discussions were in person. Quizzes and tests were kinda hard but do-able. Tests are out of 115 points, around 45 questions - only 39 counted meaning lots of xtra credit. Overall, great professor, super nice, enjoyable class.

She was nice and the tests were pretty easy, but if you dont like busy work then dont take her. Most of your grade will be made up of playposits, quizzes, application assignments, vocab, and discussions with your group on word in class. 3 tests, final was optional if you had an average of 60% from previous tests. Not bad but SO MUCH busy work.

honestly yes she is a lot of work, and a lot of homework but its all easy things that can be done in 1 sitting. She gives a lot of extra credit, and her tests are fair and contain a lot of the practice assignment content. She is an easy A if you just put in time to do the work and go to class once a week for the group discussions.

Rivera is very kind. Allowed late assignments without penalty and rewarded extra credit for almost everything. Playposits were super long and boring and live group discussions were very important to do well on the weekly assignments. Exams were difficult but you could average 60% on exams & still have an A and final was optional if 60% or higher.

Dr. Rivera is a very nice and kind Professor. This class was an ungraded course, meaning the assignments were not mandatory, but we had to master learning outcomes. These could be mastered before the evaluation, in the evaluation, and even after. If you put in the effort and show up to class, this class should be an easy A. I would take her again.

Dr. Rivera gives a TON of extra credit opportunities and helps you correct and learn from mistakes on assignments as well as exams. Weekly playposits, along with a few other assignments, but nothing crazy. One class meeting per week, for a group discussion. Very sweet and wants students to learn. 10/10

I took ecology and genetics with her. Instead of assignments you have to master learning outcomes through weekly quizzes. If you don't get them mastered, you can submit evidence. It is a pretty easy class imo you just have to put in the work.None of the assignments are graded so all you have to do is master the outcomes. I would def take her again.

The class has a LO grading criteria, all about test scores. If you miss a question you could still get credit by submitting evidence, still wrong? You can get credit by presenting better evidence in office hours, still wrong? The final is purely extra credit and is another grade boost. Great teamwork initiative too, a fair class (fall semester).

I love the course layout. It's all based on your ability to master LOs. Your test grades don't matter because what you don't master in tests, you're able to master in evidence assignments or office hours. She's very helpful and willing to assist you when needed. This class was very little stress. Would definitely recommend for any course!

Shes great. I have tsaken her for Ecology and Genetics and passed both with A's. If you want an easy A, take her because her exams can be made up with evidence. super easy.

Hybrid class where we had to meet once a week to take a short quiz. Assignments were done online. Pre-recorded lectures as well as in class time with LAs. If you did not master an LO in the weekly quiz you could always go to office hours or submit evidence for mastery. Loved structure of this class and the material was very interesting.

I took genetics with her and it was a relatively easy class. Just do your assignments on time and show up to class. She is very nice and willing to help :)

She is amazing. Her class is hybrid which means at home you do:lectures, vocab quiz, application assignment. In class, the evaluation (20 q.) It doesn't matter what you get right or wrong (ie. 10/20) it only matters you get the concepts. Any concept you don't get you can make it up during office hours or write evidence. SUPER EASY TO PASS!!

She is very nice and trying to be better so she can teach better. She uses an ungraded structure which is confusing but you get used to it, the final is optional and the class was an easy A. The only thing is the lectures were a little vague and the videos were super blurry, she was happy to receive feedback though so hopefully it's different now.

The class setup takes some getting used to, but Prof. Rivera is super helpful. Lots of extra credit opportunities and chances to correct mistakes. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep. Expect to put in significant work, but you can definitely get an A.

10/10. You'll get the hang of the ungraded structure. It is literally super laid back once you take the time to read the syllabus. Just watch the playposits, take notes, and come to class to take the exam. ppl overcomplicate it bc they don't want to understand

Her genetics course is amazing, you actually LEARN the material. You watch 1 play posit, attend a 1 hour zoom with LA's and you're done for the week- 3 hrs max. If you go to office hours or LA meetings, you can master the topics BEFORE the exams. You don't even need to take the final. The professor is super caring and accommodating!

Really interesting class! Lectures were clear, and you could demonstrate your mastery of the learning objectives through exams, submitted videos, or Zoom calls. Took the pressure off of taking exams and felt I could just learn and enjoy the material. Gives homework, but I wouldn't say it's excessive. She and her LAs are always available to help!

she has a mastery learning platform,so you can make up your gradeeasily with her.The info itself is extremely tough and complicated.however, since you can make up all your LOs, it's pretty easy to get an A in this class.She's very kind and always willing to help.If this weren't a mastery-based class,i think it would have been a lot more difficult.

X-Men Fan. Ungraded system using LOs instead of A/B/C, etc. Get ahead in the class; units determine LO availability, and it gets packed towards the end of the unit. TAs are hard to get a hold of and are 50/50 as to how strict they are. Material starts easy but greatly intensifies around halfway into the semester; it's easy to fall behind.
