Do not take this class unless you already know EXACTLY what you are doing. Nice guy but very hard to understand!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! English is not his first language, very hard to understand him. Because of the language barer, it is very hard for him to deliver his idea. He only shows how to solve problems without explanations so you are going to end up memorizing every step not knowing why you are doing them.
Best math Teacher Ive ever had!! Explains very well in class and makes sure the whole class is kept up. Tests are just like examples from class.
This guy was a sweetheart! He is very understanding an an excellent teacher, english isn't his first language, but he really isn't that difficult to understand... I actually enjoyed going to class with him! He's pretty funny and is VERY willing to help his students.
Don't take his class. He is completely incomprehensible. There is such a language barrier that you would have to bring a translator to class. He doesn't explain very well at all. He needs to work on his english because it is too hard for any person to understand him. If you want to pass the class your taking, DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!
He is a very helplful professor. He does have an accent, but he is still very easily understood. If you attend all of his lectures, ask questions when you do not understand something, and follow the course outline you will pass his class. If you are strong in math he may not be the teacher for you because he moves at a slow pace.
This professor is so nice. He has a great heart and will work with you. He is a great math teacher! I would def. take him again.
Wow. Best TEACHER I have had at Daytona State. He is clear to explain everything. He makes his own notes. He makes you do minimal hw for a grade just before the test which helps you study for the test. He is always willing to help and teach in his office. Wouldn't take anyother math teacher at daytona State college
What a nice guy! The thing he said most was "Is this clear?" and even after asking he repeated the same type of problem a few more times just to be sure you understood. Pay attention, he goes over exactly what's on the five assignments which are close to the same thing as the (only) five tests, and you will have almost no work.
I really enjoyed Dr. M's class, and I absolutely loath math. He was very kind an mellow, he would literally repeat a problem five times on the board just to make sure everyone understood. "Is this clear," and, "Everyone understand," was asked after every single question. He constantly reminded us when his office hours were and encouraged questions.
He is awesome! I am taking him again! He is very understanding, and reviews everything several times so it is easy to understand. He also goes slow enough to understand, but fast enough to get through it. He reviews everything that will be on the test. Loved this teacher!
I took Karthikeya for Calc 3 and he was excellent. As an engineering major, I was frustrated at first with his pure math/proof approach to MAC2313, but in the end I came to appreciate his general approach. People who say he has a language barrier in class are flat out too ignorant or **** for his classes and don't deserve to be in college at all.
Very nice teacher! He really asks everyone after each question if they understood everything. I dropped out after half of the semester because I took too many other classes. I'll definitely take him again when I re-take MAT1033
He has great intention. Very nice guy but I thought his methodology could improve. At the beginning of the semester I was very frustrate but got in his groove a little better with time. He had a little hard time understanding when someone had a questions and at times had a hard time getting understood.
After 4 semesters of dual-enrolling and 3 semesters of attending regular classes, I can confidently say Professor M. is easily one of the best I've had. I've never met a professor as dedicated to insuring the entire class' understanding, while not watering down the class. Take him. Love him.
Mr. M is a great teacher. He goes over all the material in class. He also goes through example problems and will not move on until everyone understands. He has like study guides that are just like the test and goes over that as well. If you go to class and do the work you are going to get a A or B. TAKE THIS CLASS!
i took this teacher in the fall 2009 for this course and he would describe problems with some detail but seemed to second guess himself and it was hard to understand him the majority of the time. I failed his class miserable and took this course with the best math teacher and got a wayy better grade and understood the material better so yahh
He is sweet! Somewhat shy, and witty (but doesn't know it). It hurts me to see how people make in fun of his accent. I think he does a fine job explaining. People just don't pay attention! Do your homework and listen and you will do great!
He's a great teacher. There's literally no reason to fail his class unless you have no drive what-so-ever. He goes over a bunch of problems in class, gives you homework problems (similar to questions on the test), gives you an assignment sheet which is a similar format to the test, and is always more than willing to help. And he drops a test grade.
He is a great professor. Extremelly helpful in explaining new concepts. If you're strugling in his class, all you have to do is talk to him about it and he will guide you and motivate you. I'm glad I chose this proffesor, he made my transition into Calc II much easier than I anticipated. Choose Him!
Love him! Love him! Love him! He was amazing! Just come to class everyday and lab. DO ALL THE HW even and odd problems. The exams are based off the hw. Go to his office hours to get help the tutors are useless. Great professor, made me enjoy math for once!
I failed this clas prior to taking it with this prof. He is funny... but doesn't know it and that makes it even funnier. He is an excellent teacher. He does have an accent that some student say is strong, but I had absolutely no problems understanding him at all... if anything it made me oay attention more, lol
I found him to be extremely helpful, knowledgeable and best of all, the notes he writes up in class of all of problems he completed, he posts online so that you can review later if you missed something. He was incredible. I'm going to try and take him again for MAC1105
Do not take this teacher if you have to work to put yourself through college. He is a spoiled little rich kid who didn't have to work while he was in college and he expects that everyone in his class has the same luxury. He often will teach an entire section and give the test on it the very next day leaving no time for working people to study.
He is a delight! I took MAC1140, 2311, 2312 & now 2313 with him. Performance in his classes is related to the amount of effort put in. I have an appreciation for his dedication. He wants everyone to pass. If you're doing poorly, go see him and he will motivate you. He posts class notes online & gives opportunities to improve your grade.
Hes the best. He is very helpful. He doesn't mind going over problem over and over until you understand it. he makes the class so easy. His notes are better than the examples in the textbook. If you are ready to put some effort in, he is the best teacher to take any math class with! :D
Excellent professor. He is very helpful and has the most organized notes. Grades on time and is excellent at explaining the material. Can frustrating in a funny way, but also takes student input into his teaching. Lots of HW, but you will learn. Highly recommended.
best math teacher i've ever had. does a great job explaining things. also he's pretty funny.
This professor does not let you make up Any test what so ever!! My 2 year old son was sick with the flu and even with a provided dcts note Still not allowed! I would not recommend this professor unless this is the only class you will be taking. You have alot of homework (10 pages every night) and alot of lecture notes that he post online regulary.
This is the best Calculus teacher at Daytona State. I took him for Pre Calculus as well as Calculus, and I learned a lot from both courses. If you put forth a little bit of effort, you will do fine. He doesn't let you retake any tests, but he lets your final exam grade replace your lowest test grade. I highly recommend Dr. Mamillapalle.
Very willing to help one understand, doesnt like when his students drop. Got a good laugh out of the class almost everyday. Overall sweet guy who really knows his math.
Such a good teacher. Made class fun. Even pulls up Rate my professor in class and makes fun of the people who say he isnt a good teacher.
I am a high school student who is good at math and don't need much help with the class but, even things I need help with and clarity on, I get. His method of teaching is very good and he is always open to new, easier methods. 10 pages of homework is A LIE! HW is NOT mandatory. Very nice. Very funny! No language barrier! At All!
He posts all of the lecture notes online after class and is also always prompt with posting grades. I had absolutely no trouble understanding him because of his accent. He's a wonderful (and very funny!) teacher and I can tell that he's also a wonderful person in general. Don't hesitate to take him! I can't express on here how much I truly <3 him.
Took him for Calc I. Homework is assigned but not collected. Labs are based from the homework . Tests are based from the homework. It all goes back to the homework (hint). He's very clear, posts the notes online, and is always encouraging us to visit him during office hours if we don't get something. I thought he was hilarious. Enjoyed class.
I took this a couple semesters back and although math is not my strong subject...not only did I understand it, I did well...just shows that half the battle is in how good your instructor is at explanations...if you are not good with math/algebra...I recommend him.
I hate Math and he made me want to like it. He has a very sweet, quiet and calm demeanor. He went over what was going to be on the tests and we did not have any homework. Very patient and helpful.
Absolutely horrible professor. He doesn't give any partial credit and take out all of your points for silly mistakes.
This professor moves fast through material, but always stops and checks to make sure everyone is following. Always prepares you for the test, both in the sense that you know the material and that you know what to expect to see on the test. I would recommend this professor and am taking him again next semester.
Great teacher, willing to help en needed. Thinking of taking his online class..
Tests are very difficult and class lectures do not follow books so it is hard to find study material. Very tough class, and I like math!
You have to go to every class and genuinely understand what's going on or you won't do well. DO THE BOOK HOMEWORK!!! His tests are NOT EASY unless you really prepare! But he's a really nice guy and don't listen to the guy who said his jokes are lame. He really is funny. Bottom line: this is a Calculus class and nobody said Calculus was easy!
Great Teacher very helpful. If you ever need help he is more than willing to help you. Take this teacher if you have the chance.
Great professor. If you need help just go to his office hours and he will help you. He is more than willing to help you if you need it. I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone.
He is a really great professor , i enjoyed attending his class. He always makes sure you understand the material before he moves on with it , and if you don't later on he has no problem with going over it again , tests are a little hard but no questions that are unexpected.
I had him for Calc 1 & 2. He is a very balanced teacher. He will outline everything for you and do everything possible to get you to ace the tests. Calculus is not easy - be prepared to do each and every homework problem. I worked hard and got A's in both classes. Overall he's a nice, funny guy who always asks how he can improve his teaching style.
This is the best math teacher i have taken at this school. I took him for calc 1 this summer and will be taking him for calc 2 he is always willing to help you and is excellent at teaching the material. I was really getting tired of math till I ended up with an awesome teacher like him. Now i look forward to another semester of calculus.
The content isn't easy- it's calculus, but he does everything he can to help you out. He designs tests that you can pass, not to prove how much more he knows than you do . There are no tricks; you get the grade you deserve for the amount of work you put in. He is the best professor I've ever had and the only one I've taken the time to rate.
Dr. Karthik is a fantastic professor. His notes, labs, and tests come from the homework. If something doesn't make sense, do not be afraid to ask questions; he cares about his students' understanding, and he's a really fun guy once the semester gets going and he feels comfortable with the class. Never laughed so much in a class!
At first I didn't think he would be a great professor, but I was completely wrong. He is a little fast, but he thoroughly covers every topic. Attend class and study, along with the assignments and you'll pass. Taking him again for college algebra this fall.
I enjoyed taking Professor M's Calc I course. There was a lot of homework each night, but it was a rushed summer class, so it was expected. He presents the material in a clear, effective way, so even complicated topics were not too difficult to understand for the students. I would highly recommend this professor.
Great teacher. Thats all I have to say haha.
Hard to understand because he is not from America. Very fast teacher but if you take the time to ask for help he will stop everything to help you. Do not be afraid to ask questions!!! Keep practicing the problems, study, and do the weekly lab quizzes on time! Then you can pass his class.
I'll admit, I'm awful at math. But he's not a great teacher. He relies heavily on the videos, and refuses to bend the rules even a little on ANYTHING. If you're late by 2 minutes, you get a zero for that class assignment. His lessons aren't clear either. Nearly everyone in my class failed. I would avoid taking him if you're bad at math.
He goes quick. And when I say quick, I am taking about finishing a whole chapter in 3 days. He explains through exercises. He wants everybody to pass his class and will help you in case you don't understand something, but don't expect any help if you don't ask questions in class. He has a great sense of humor. Labs are required. No pop-quizzes.
There is no real interaction with the Professor, however if you email her do not hold your breath waiting on a reply as sometimes she answers quickly, other times slowly, and then other times she does not respond at all. Course work is fine, and Professor is OK. I'd take a class under her again, knowing that I was responsible for educating myself.
Took him for Calculus 1 over the summer, he isn't the hold your hand type of professor but at this stage you shouldn't really need it. Ten weeks wasn't easy but great teacher, lots of notes online to help you, will answer questions when your stuck.
Ive never been great at math, so taking calc over the summer seemed like quite a stretch. However after the first week I was motivated to study every day, and the professor helped to make the class seem achievable. Asking a stupid question once is alright, after the second he gets irritated but it's understandable because isn't algebra class.
Hard as hell
Dr. Mamillapalle was a great professor! I took this course Fall of 2015 and found it pretty easy. Dr. M is always available to answer questions, and was really friendly. I highly recommend this course!
The professor is amazing.
Dr Karthikeya Mamillapa is a good instructor. He wants you to pass his class and says as much in thevery beginning. He warns that if you don't do the work you won't pass. He will help you as much as you need, though he gets a bit miffed if it takes more than a couple of times to get it. Though by the time you get to calculus you should be able to..
He is super sarcastic, so if you're sensitive you need to either toughen up or pick another professor. He's the realest math professor I've ever met, he teaches you tricks for math problems without going above and beyond (unless you want him to). He's my favorite math teacher so far, and I think you won't regret taking any of his classes.
Took during summer, the only grades are 4 tests, final, project and homework assignments. Very boring classes and majority of the time the professor doesn't make sense and goes extremely fast. Doesn't explain calculus at all, he just does problems and expects you to copy everything and understand it by the test. Would not recommend.
Wouldnt really recommend this as your first choice, very difficult to keep up with. Most of the time it seemed like he cared more about his jokes more than teaching properly. If you can learn calc. by yourself than take this class, if not than find a better professor that communicates about the material during lectures becauae this isnt for you.
Really funny!! Wants to help you any way he can. You really do learn the material. I had him twice for pre-alg and calc1. I am Acing calc2 with the foundation of his teaching!
Honestly don't take this class unless you have a prior grasp on Pre-Calculus/Calculus. This teacher can barely speak english, and is extremely difficult to understand. He believes that there is only way to complete a a math problem, so if you use outside help to understand the calculus concepts, he will not accept them, because they are not his way
Seriously one of the best professors that I've had in my educational career. Though he does have an accent, it did not take long to get used to. He teaches via a print-out of problems which is a very effective way since all of them are related to the test problems. Studying and doing problems out of class will make you definitely succeed.
He is very passionate about the subject and its importance for those in the stem field. He shows you how to do certain problems and then gives you the opportunity to try it on your own. If you don't understand something, all you have to do is ask him to explain. His tests are filled with problems just like the lecture notes and labs.
I would stay away from this professor for pre calc, he expects you to get the problems in the first few times but doesn't explain most of the steps in detail enough because he expects you to already know what was done from college algebra. Textbook is used for homework questions
Took his online precalculus class and was pretty happy with it. He graded all projects within a week, went 3-4 times for help and he seemed happy to help.
I took this class online as a six week course, and the amount of work that has to be done is still more than an entire year of calculus in hs. The work is ridiculously difficult for the course level, it's a huge waste of time, and it does nothing to help learn the material. I not only don't recommend this class, I strongly advise against it.
This professor is sarcastic, immature, and somewhat rude to the students, even though he blames his behavior on his "personality". Also, he eats his food on testing days and munches really loud which is really disrespectful for the students who are actually trying to work hard. If you're a sensitive person, then stay away from him.
I totally disagree with previous reviews. Guys, you are in college now!!! You have to work for your grade; and a professor is always there to help you! Problems on the test come from his notes. He helps with projects. What else do you need? Only lazy and witless students can complain about professor Mamillapalle. P.S. I loved his sense of humor!
He's alright. I kinda wish he gave more problems on a test because its really easy to make careless mistake and your test turn into an instant B. He also doesn't give any extra credit.
He doesnt speak English well, is disrespectful to students. Wants you to ask questions but gets upset when you do(usually with a heavy breath and eye roll before he explains). He will not teach students. He has a packet of questions that he does throughout the class, just does the problem then says we clear? I would not take him again.
I took his online class, he is easy, i had a family emergency and helped me work around it! his homework is easy, you can practice homework as much or as often till you get it, he has reasonable hours. He responds to emails in the same day normally, he made me not hate math- coming from a bad math student, i did well! videos help alot!
He provides you with everything you need to do well, and he is very funny which makes the class much more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend him to any other students taking Calc 1.
All in all, him being my first professor for college i found that he was a decent professor. although he does have an accent, if you are paying attention you will understand. i found the class to be easy and fairly graded especially for test. i would definitely take him again, he was a nice guy, although sarcastic at times. the work load isn't bad.
Solid choice for mathematics. Very concise with what he says, explains exactly what you need to know for the test, has a genuine passion for what he does, comical personality, has an accent but is easy to get used to, tests are exactly what you expect. Your grade reflects your effort.
Awesome guy. First college class and was a great way to start. Hoping to take him again in the future. Ive cried laughing in this class multiple times. Super easy course as I had already learned the material.
I took this course online. Everything except the Chapter Discussion Labs are graded automatically through the computer so the professor literally does nothing as everything is online. He does however take very long to grade the discussion labs, 12 weeks into the semester with no grades for labs. Doesn't give extra credit either. The final was hard
I don't care what anybody says; this professor is a good, solid calc I instructor. Personally, I have always despised math and struggled in every course, but this is the very first class that has gotten me to hate mathematics a little less and I respect Mr. Mamillapalle for that. The homework may be heavy, but it serves you well in the end.
The best advice that I can give it to you is to avoid this proof no matter what. He doesn't know how to teach. But he knows very well how to fail you. Tests are extremely hard. Lectures are pointless, unless you wanna learn about, not subject related topics, like stock market and life in India.
His lectures are very clear but sometimes he does go fast so either keep up or tell him to slow down. He is willing to help you and answer any questions you may have. Homework and quizzes are completed at home and you have 4 tests you do in class throughout the semester.
Definitely overall one of the best professors I've had in my 2 years at Daytona State. I am currently taking his pre-calc class- he explains everything very thoroughly and also gives real life applications which can help making the math homework more interesting. You can tell he is very passionate about hwat he teaches and cares about his students.
I love this professor! I have continued to look for him when looking for him when I need a math class. Very funny and is always willing to help.
He was really awful. He assigned 1 project and in the gradebook, wrote it as three and gave me a 0% on all of them, even though they were turned in on time. I also took him for my trig class and this happened again with other projects. He also took almost 4 months to grade them. Very short with emails and does not really care.
Karthikeya is a fantastic math professor. I took him for differential equations, and i really enjoyed going to class. Hes not only very knowledgeable, but he is also funny in class. Best thing to do is study his lecture notes before the exam as the questions are very similar. Overall awesome prof! Thanks Karthikeya!
TERRIBLE! Expects you to already know material. When lecturing he goes through a few examples very quickly and doesn't explain his steps. The only grades in the class were the exams. He doesn't offer any extra credit. He is disrespectful and rude when you need help. The exams are very hard and long. The lectures did not help me understand anything.
Prof. Mamillapalle Moves quickly if no one asks questions, but is more than happy to help anyone. He also dishes out some amazing dry british humor, so watch out.
This professor is tough. He doesn't explain the concepts very well, either. The tests are 80% of the grade and are extremely difficult. Instead of putting questions that demonstrate you know the concepts, he puts challenge questions on the test. The only way I could pass was by watching Professor Leonard on youtube.
This professor is difficult. I can't recommend him unless he is the only choice. He doesn't explain concepts well at all, the only way I was able to understand was by watching professor Leonard on youtube, which is the only reason I passed. His tests are EXTREMELY difficult. Take Dr. Sweet if he is available for your course.
Gives incredibly tedious homework assignments with no real instruction or lecturing. The teacher relies on 3rd party program to do all work for him. Stay far away from this professor.
At first I was going to write a bad review but it turns out this professor is one of the best I've ever had. When class started we would have to do 40+ questions of Calc three but he later changed that to much shorter labs. He listens to his students feedback and for that he is one of the best I've had
I had Professor Karthikeya for MAS3105, Linear Algebra, and I loved him. He was very caring, his notes were amazing, he cracked great jokes that we could laugh at without being forced to, and he would always slow down if you needed it. If I could take Professor K again I would, I hope you do too :)
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Nothing like the positive ratings in the slightest. He does NO TEACHING OR WORK AT ALL. The assignments and tests are all auto-graded. His only teaching time is A SINGLE office hour PER WEEK. Tests are 20 questions(all show work , 2.5 Hrs, x3) and are most of your grade. He doesn't give any significant feedback either.
Calc 3 is a tough class, but he made sure that the whole class passed- even stuck around with the class after the final to discuss our grades with us and dispute anyone who wanted to talk about their grade.
Not involved at all. All of the homework, tests and quizzes were auto graded and when I emailed him asking for help as this was my first online math course and I was struggling to learn from the textbook, he emailed back a basic response suggesting that I read the text book. I did get a decent grade, but only after having a tutor teach me instead.
I thought the class was engaging and interesting, the labs help a lot with understanding the concepts and not only prepare for the test but give a well-rounded knowledge about the chapter. The lectures were fun and related to real life situations. The tests where good, Overall, a really good class that I would recommend to anyone.
I really enjoyed this course. Math is one of my favorite subjects, and the class was very entertaining.
He is one of the best math teachers I have had so far. Math is my favorite field of study, so his teaching made it even more enjoyable.
Liked to joke a lot and kept the class very upbeat
Was never very good at math but he did a great job at helping me. He will take all the time in the world to make sure that you fully understand the topics and concepts.
I enjoyed every class I did go to. I hope to have him in the fall
Professor Karthikeya has to be my favorite math teacher ever. He has passion and will do anything for his students. Math has always been hard for me and he made it a breeze. He took his time to teach and help me understand. If you take the time to care about this class and ask him questions you should easily get an A.
Dr. Karthikeya was the best professor I have ever had. I took Elementary Statistics(STA 2023) at 8am and he started my morning great with many laughs. He moves pretty quickly but if you need him to slow down or have a question he will be more than happy to help. Study the notes from the lectures and you will be sure to do good on the tests.
